Rikyu Gyutan wouldn’t normally be my first pick since it’s a chain across Japan, but I stopped by because it was convenient. Service was friendly and the menu had a lot of choices, but the taste was disappointing—there was even a slight smell that put me off. After two days of enjoying gyutan in Sendai, this was the first letdown. The only highlight was the beer, which was excellent.

Good Gyutan and soup and service is very fast. But is very cramp, we had to sit in the middle of a long table. Price is a bit more expensive than the usual gyutan set in other places.
The consistency of the tongue isn’t always there some are hard as *ck and some are juicy and soft. I would rate this a 3.5 stars if I could. Their ox tail soup is really worth it though. Has a lot of meat compared to other places.

Amazing grilled beef tongue shop, it's a must go in Sendai! Heard it is the oldest shop to serve beef tounge in Sendai. A set comes with rice, several pieces of grilled beef tongue, some pickled vegetables and a beef tail soup. Very reasonable price, amazing taste!
I have tried many Gyotan in Sendai in which they are all good. But I would say Umami Tasuke is the best of them. The beef tongue is cooked with salt and served with pickles and Japanese barley rice and soup (seems to be the standard set combination here in Sendai). The meats are both bouncy and chewy. If I come back to Sendai again, I come and eat multiple times.
Had to go for gyutan while I was visiting Sendai and I am glad I did so. They were fantastic in both texture and flavor. I will definietely be returning to Sendai to eat gyutan again!

Reportedly the birth place of cold ramen noodles, Ryutei lives up to its reputation. Noodles are tinged with a sweet and sour that compliments the nutty flavor of sesame. Loses a star for its shrimp dumplings. Everything, the skin and the filling, is wrong with the dumplings. Get there early as the restaurant is popular with locals. When we arrived at 11, there was already a full line. We sat after 30mins (one turnover).
Ramen noodles are hard to sell in the hot summer months.Hiyashi chuka is a cold ramen that was invented for this reason.

Zenjiro Sendai Station Gyutan Dori is a popular spot for food and souvenir shopping. It's conveniently located near the Sendai Asaichi morning market and Sendai Gyutan, offering local cuisine and unique items to take home. The Akiu Onsen is also worth a visit if you have spare time. The restaurants on Gyutan Dori open at 10:00, with most city branch gyutan chains opening for lunch around 11:00.
Raises the bar for gyutan in my eyes, plus extremely convenient being in the sendai station (3rd floor). Some of the beefiest gyutan I've had with thicker cuts and the bounciest tongue I've had yet. Oxtail soup was simply oozing beefy tenderness too. Not seasoned as heavily as other shops but I think it let's the natural flavor of their cuts shine well.
Bonus points for having grated yam! A lot of sets seem to skip it.
Extra bonus points for folks that can handle English despite my scrub japanese.

Awesome gyutan, one of the best yet. I got the thick one which had a crazy little satisfying bite to it. The side salad and rice also made itself a great combination. The beef was cooked perfectly and though slightly tender still had the charm. I recommend eating it with the rice. It’s only a short walk from the closest station.

This branch is located on the 1st floor of the building. I find this branch has less que than the one inside the station. We came on a weekday lunch and theres hardly any que. We waited around 10 minutes before we were seated at the counter (2 pax). I ordered the 4 pc thick cut gyutan and my wife ordered their thin slices gyutan. She prefers the thin slices, but i prefer the thick cut for their extra chew. However both are very good. The gyutan set came with a salad and soup. Pairs very well with the main dish. Gyutan is exceptional, well seasoned and cooked just right. The char on the ourside and the tenderness of the cut, just melts in your mouth. This is just one of the many gyutan restaurants in Sendai and there are plenty of other shops with higher review. I highly recommend to try them all if you can. I would do it if i could stay longer in Sendai.

Delicious grilled gyutan (ox tongue), I couldn’t try all the famous gyutan this time so I picked the highest marks on tabelog, I like their beef tataki and their tomato salad too, and grated yam to eat with rice. Gyutan were soft yet bouncy, but a little bit too salty for me but which is fine, just perfect to eat with rice.
Of all the beef tongue meals I had in Sendai, this had the best price / quality ratio by far. It would have been nice to have otsumami on the menu, but I don't really mind it when a place is specialized. Otoshi (service charge and a small tapas) if you order alcohol.

Around noon I made a dinner reservation for the same day and requested a vegan menu. The staff was helpful and accomodating and the food was delicious. Enjoying vegan haute cuisine on the 26th floor overlooking Sendai was quite special. The flavours were subtle but beautiful which allowed to appreciate the flavour of the ingredients and with every dish the taste buds got happier and happier. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary.

Came here for the Tohoku Vegan Delights lunch course. The dessert and soup were the best, but I wouldn't rush back at this price point. I had already tried another restaurant in nearby the station and this time I wanted to see the difference. Both are very good, cannot tell which one is better, but this one only serves you what you need: tongue, rice and soup. This little restaurant was a gem! Their food was superb! Their first dish of almond tofu and the second dish with stuffed crab was already a pleasant surprise. Every dish was skillfully created with their own twists. Both their raw seafood and cooked dishes were fabulous. Love their eel and yam. Even dessert was great! It was definitely one of the highlight dinner of our trip. The chef was super friendly and he made sure we know what we were eating and what special ingredients he has put into each dish. It was entertaining and satisfying. We were so full afterwards. Will definitely come back if we ever visit Sendai again.

One of the best dining experiences I had so far at less than half of what I would had paid if it’s in Tokyo. Definitely worth the visit and just go for the most expensive option as it’s the best way to experience the quality and creativity.
Wow this restaurant really impressed! Every dish that came out was amazing and I cannot believe the quality and variety of food we got from the 13,000 yen set. Would definitely come back here!
Had our hotel help us make the reservation for the restaurant. Didn’t realize everything was set menu which was perfect because we wouldn’t know what to order. We had a 15 course meal which included dessert. Everything was delicious.
Enjoyed the ¥10,000 omakase option with the head chef at the counter.
The food was great, more sashimi and shellfish than I was expecting (as compared to Nigiri) but everything was delicious and he used several local ingredients that really brought it home for me.
The chef was extremely friendly and accommodating (especially to my no Wasabi request) though did not speak much English so I had to flex some old Japanese speaking muscles.

I had the omakase course which I would recommend. It wasn’t expensive considering this is a one-Michelin star restaurant. The chef was friendly and put in the effort to make sure I was having a good experience despite the language barrier. Reservations by phone only though.

However, our server was fantastic and she filled in some of the gaps, where the chef might have fallen short in terms of communication with the customers, regarding his vision, and food presentation. arrived around 4:30pm and told fully booked. asked how long shall we wait or can we book next day or the day after. was told the whole week is fully booked. when we were going to leave the owner came out and told us he can squeeze us in due to we are traveller and might not come back. we are so grateful. ordered seri pot , assorted sashimi , shirako, anko live and roasted leek. shirako&live are so fresh no smell and any werid taste, seasoned with ponzu. two traditional dishes. sashimi: ika is bit chewy which is fine for me but my wife cant accept, but if u can chew it down and cover with shiho, you will like it for sure. others sashimi ingrediences were classical and high standard. last comes the star of the night seri pot. the source is close to sukiyaki source but less sugar. the duck breast cuts provide bit fat and gamy flavor. the seri leaves takes 3s, the body takes 6s and the root takes 10s to cook. great superise! the flavor goes so well with the veg.i would recommend to have root frist since it has the most fragrance, u will need it in the soup. the owner will let you pick two carbonydrate main cook in the soup left over. i would sugguest to leave one bounch veg for ur carbohydrate main to increase the variety of the texture and add more colors regardless which main u pick. they are all delicious. we picked ramen. very warm service and satisfied and heathy dinner! highly recommend. a tip for the owner if you or your team read this, try a little bit angelica sinensis in the source, i believe it will go well with ur pot.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner last night at Datenari Honcho.
Food was very delectable, we ordered various kinds of meat, but as expected the Sendai Beef Kalbi is the star of the show (although my husband begged to differ, he liked the Japanese Kalbi more). You should definitely order the meat platter.
The service was impeccable, the staff really tried to communicate with us using google translate. We hadn't received this much warmth from restaurant staffs in a while!
Our toddler received sausages as a service, free of charge. They also got to pick their own snacks as a present! The kids were so happy.
They went out of their way to decorate the cake plating my friend surprisingly ordered for me, eventhough there is language barrier and my friend did try her best to explain what she meant using google translate, haha. They even got a sparkle candle to go with the cake!

Very quiet here tonight, but the waiter was suuuper attentive and used Google translate to converse with us. I ordered the grilled tongue set with Japanese curry. It was delicious. To elevate it to the next level I think the curry needs a little bit of a punch as it tasted normal. Other than that the rice, veggies, and soup were amazing.

I came to eat dinner on April 18, 2025 at around 18:30. I entered the restaurant first according to the queue. After getting a table, there was another table available. I asked to change seats because it was noisy around, but the restaurant refused. I understand and accept this. But when I was going to order food, the staff went to take the food order of the table that came after me first, including when I called, the staff did not pay attention. Zunda Saryo Sendai Station Zunda Komichi branch is a popular spot in Sendai, Japan, known for its unique use of edamame in various sweet dishes. When you first arrive in Sendai station, the first thing u must try is their zunda shake and zunda mochi. This shop is everything about zunda. Its more like vanilla ice cream milk shake with edamame flavours. More vanilla milk flavour than edamame. Its quite sweet too. I tried both Zunda Saryo and their competitor next door. I prefer the next door one as its less sweet in comparison. I would have prefer the shake to have more zunda flavours. Good to try once or twice when you are in Sendai.
Sendai's specialty edamame milkshake has a light edamame flavor, but the milk taste is stronger. Takeaway has 8% VAT, and dine-in has 10% VAT, but you need to wait for a seat if dining in.
The Zunda mochi set costs 850 yen and comes with three mochi, dried kelp, and tea (hot or iced).

Sendai is famous for this green Mochi ( Zunda) made with soy beans. I was too lazy to go out in town to find one so ended up at the store in the station. This place specialize in Mochi, and got Mochi with tea or soy shake as eat in menu. Their shop got cakes and cookies too. Mochi doesn’t have too strong of a flavor so don’t expect it to be so sweet. Good bite to try.
Zunda was mentioned to me as a local treat before I came to Sendai. Tried the shake and roll cake, since I already had zunda macha at castle ruins. Once the initial pea flavor fades the shake was really delicious! The roll cake is fluffy and not too sweet. It also comes with a small ball of ice cream. Definitely worth a second visit!

Date no Gyutan is as good as it’s going to get for Gyutan! We had the special cut (Kamameshi) of the beef tongue. You cannot missed it. It is on the very first page of the menu. It’s a little pricier than other plates, but it is very well worth it. The tongue was so tender, soft and juicy at the same time. The other dish was the sharks fin soup with ramen, my toddler daughter loves that dish.
We stayed in Sendai for three nights and we visited this location three times. That’s just how good this place is. The staffs were also very nice. Five stars ⭐️

There's English as well, and service was reasonably fast. I'd recommend coming with friends or with a date, probably not on my own. The soup shown with the set was delicious salt based as well, and the meat itself chewy yet flavorful.

Nice comfortable cozy restaurant. We had the soba and Gyutan barley rice set. Gyutan was grilled to perfection and serving is just right. The barley rice is refillable for free. They have menu in English/Thai/Chinese/Korean. The restaurant also sells snacks/crackers @ the entrance.

Wow, I absolutely adored the amazing atmosphere! As soon as I stepped inside, I was promptly seated at the table I had reserved. In the first floor, there are bar seats in which you can observe the preparation of oden. Other floors offer tatami floor. You can pick what comes within your oden pot but all items are delicious. The broth is very light yet flavorful. Perfect food for the cold weather. Very heartwarming.

ただ、もうこのお店には行かないと思います。
仙台なら他にも牛タンを提供してくれる、静かで大人なお店がいっぱいありそうですからね。
余談ですが、このビルのエレベーターが各階で止まってた。(誰も居ないのに)

Came for a late dinner around 9pm on a Wednesday and was able to get a seat for 3 easily.
They have 31 beers on tap with prices ranging from 600 yen to 1450 yen.
The food was also really nice, each dish well presented and tasty. The concept is local ingredients and they have a story with each item served.

Nice atmosphere and good selection with multiple food and drinks selection. We were only aiming for the craft beer hence the visit.
The Oguna Dunkel Weizen was and Yonezawa Jacks Yamabudo Saison we drank was great. People that like coffee aroma can get the HINO Brewing Kudari Stout.
We also got the Ushitora Krush Gals IPA but its quite flat in our opinion, not worth the moolah.
Just finished an amazing dinner at Craftsman Sendai and was so impressed that I wanted to post a review right away.
First off, the beer selection is really impressive as they have over 30 varieties on tap and also have a selection of canned craft beer as well. Honestly I am happy whenever I can get a Hazy IPA but to have a choice of three different varieties was a very pleasant surprise.
That said, even though the beer selection was great the quality of the food was even better. The sausage was maybe the best I have ever had in my life and the pizza, desert, chicken wings, potato salad, etc were all super delicious.
Of course it's a bit expensive but well worth the cost considering the quality of the food, beer and service.
We went early evening so there were only a handful of other customers, however we were really surprised just how excellent their gyoza and spicy fried chicken were. They offered a good choice of beers and I appreciated and enjoyed the natural lassi on the menu!
If you’re a beer lover, Craftsman Sendai is the perfect place to visit. We dropped by around 6pm for dinner and scored a table, however it was quite busy and I’d recommend a booking if possible. The owner (manager) was very hospitable (and patient!) and the family had a great time. I especially loved the local beers which I hadn’t seen elsewhere. Could have easily spent the night working my way through the list. They offer tasting paddles too which made things a bit easier. My favourite was the Iwatekura Oyster Stout. The pizzas and tapas were the perfect accompaniments. Thanks Craftsman!
It’s located very near Sendai station so we all took metro to the restaurant! The interior design of the restaurant is nice and cozy. The staffs there are very welcoming too even we dont speak Japanese. We are all beer lover so we mainly ordered beer that night and were amazed by the collection of the craft beers there! Also their food is extremely delicious considering it is a bistro. Even a lot more delicious than most of the restaurant I know in Sendai! We ordered pizza and french fries and a set of ham. They were all very yummy! We decide to come here every week to have our regular beer talk meeting! Craftsman is highly recommended!
Recommend to make a reservation in advance. This place was packed on the middle of week day. Happy with the quality of foods and choices of craft beers that recommended by gentleman in a black suit and black hat. It was great that this place was not allow to smoke inside. This 2 weeks in Japan on the east side there were too many pub and restaurants that allows customers to smoke inside air con room. It's hard to breath and my hair stink. I wouldn't mind for outdoor seating if people want to smoke cause air circulation will be much better.
Last week I went with my friends to this restaurant. It’s very well located in downtown Sendai, you can easily access it by subway (Sendai Station or Ichibancho Station).

There is a variety of drinks, from Craft beer and cocktails to non alcoholic beverage. I drank a lemon beer and a sangria, both delicious and refreshing. You won’t be disappointed in the food either, they have a lot of options in the menu. The appetizer set with different types of ham was a highlight! The pizza and the beef were incredible and are well recommended. Additionally, don’t forget to leave some space for the dessert. I opted for the chocolate cake and it was the cherry on top for a very delicious night!

SO GOOD. This was the only beef tongue I had in Sendai so I am not a great judge but I don't see how it can get much better than this. Beef tongue low-key might just be better than a regular steak. Also the soup they give you is very yummy and also the beef stew! It is bitter but balances quite well with everything. The matcha ball was also bonkers. Overall beef tongue is a must try in Sendai !!

The beef tongue is so delicious in Sendai. This place is right in the middle of a lively outdoor shopping area near the train station. The staff were extremely friendly and even though I barley speak any Japanese they still provided excellent service. The meal consisted of rice, soup and beef tongue for around ¥2000. Additionally, they provide a delicious matcha desert to finish up after you drink your highballs and wash all the meaty tastiness down. I highly recommend you come here to enjoy one of Sendai's delicacies.

Overall very disappointing even though I had very high expectations. The restaurant forgot items in my orders and I had to wait over 40minutes for a replacement. All the time, the chef was serving other customers. While they were apologetic after, I’m surprised at how a well rated restaurant can be so careless.
Second shock - I was charged 40% higher than menu price for a grilled fish which the waitress said was normal. However, the waitress did not informed me during order that the item would cost more than listed price. It is bad faith and practice which I’ve not encountered at Japanese restaurants before and unsure if it is done only to foreigners.
Lastly, the overpriced and initially forgotten grilled fish was overcooked and charred. Suggest that you visit other better restaurants with better value.

不過必須說，服務態度真的很好，店員親切又有禮貌，上菜的時候介紹餐點也很細心。當天我們被安排到一個小包廂，空間舒適、氣氛安靜，很適合朋友聚餐或情侶約會，不用擔心吵雜環境影響心情。

Hosoya's Sandwich, located in Sendai's Kokubuncho district, is a historic hamburger shop that has been serving its famous burgers since the 1950s. The shop closes as soon as they run out of daily ingredients, usually around 3pm. Despite its narrow space and rustic interior adorned with golf memorabilia, it has sold an impressive 1.28 million hand-grilled burgers to date.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I was recommended this old burger shop. What I got was a cozy counter seat with a cheap, simple, but fulfilling cheeseburger and a side of fries. The atmosphere of the shop is made clear by the 68 year history of the business. A cool spot for anyone interested in western foods in Japan.

A famous burger shop that’s been around since 1950. It serves burgers and coffee, and that’s about it. The original burger is simple, with cheese lettuce, and ketchup. It was stellar. Of course you can add some other toppings, but I recommend you try the original first (the burger is small so you can eat more than one). The only problem is that I went by several times during their open hours and they were either “preparing” or “sold out”, so I couldn’t go in. Just be prepared for that. Worth a stop though.
Cute burger shop with a lot of old character. I really liked how it felt like an old coffee shop and had friendly staff. The burgers are very simple and small so if you have a large appetite you could probably down a couple easily. This was my second visit because the first time I came around 7pm they had a sold out sign on the door.
Price is cheap and not too difficult to get to. Good place for a simple burger. Place is small though so not an ideal place to stay for long.
Burger was rich in spices with just perfect size & portion, but it was a bit dry & taste of ketchup was covering goodness of burger. Overall, they serve close to authentic burgers so no fantasy toppings. Burger price is reasonable, but drinks are a bit overpriced. Finally, cash is only available payment option which makes this place less attractive for me.

The first hamburger shop in Japan. The small unassuming Hosoya Sandwhich has sold over a million hamburgers since opening after the war! The current owner is the son of the founder. Basic plain hamburgers to more gourmet options. Best burger in the city? Maybe not, but you are also coming here for the history.
Historic decor, English speaking owner (though he may not reveal it right away), and fun place to eat.(no seating charge), I recommend the basic simple burger for 350 yen early in the evening of your tour around the Kokubuncho entertainment district.

French inspired multi-course dining in a rustic, somewhat laidback atmosphere. I was a solo diner coming on a whim so I made a last minute lunch reservation. I’d love to come back for dinner next time. The service was very attentive and the food was wonderfully plated. The dining room is small but one of the brightest and most comfortable I’ve experienced in Japan. I was trying to decide between miura, Nacree, and Graal, and found the menu and price point here to suit me best, but I do think Nacree and Graal are slightly more upscale and intense. The plates were unique and surprising, but certainly fresh. The strawberry tiramisu was amazing. The menu is drawn up according to seasonal ingredients, so it’s worth coming multiple times.
I don’t give 5 stars lightly but lunch was phenomenal. Salad was thoughtful with a variety of textures, a luxurious soup, quality baguette, mains cooked with good sauce pairings, and the dessert of was the best with a perfect salty sweet ice cream and tart combo at just the right level of richness. An amazing deal at round 3,500 yen. Wished I have gotten the more expensive courses. Recommended reservations ahead although plenty of seats at 1:30 time lot on a weekday, earlier time slot was fully booked

6000円くらいのコースのメイン2種のうち1つを+500円して仙台牛グリル、ワインを2人で5杯位で、合計18000円くらいでした。
メイン2種類でこれは結構コスパはいいのではないかと思います。
季節の食材を使った料理はどれも美味しくて、見た目も綺麗で大満足です！

A nice friendly guesthouse in a good location in a quiet neighbourhood. The hostel is very affordable and only a 10 minute walk to Nigatake station.
They have a very homely and welcoming feeling, and will encourage the guests to hang out in the communal area downstairs which was a lot of fun.

We were able to get an Umeshu tasting course while we stayed there as well which was a fun experience.

Every course was delectable and beautiful in presentation, we particularly enjoyed the opportunity to compare the two types of beef and the various condiments provided to elevate the eating experience (we were provided wasabi to grate, the miso butter was a personal favourite)
In particular, our server, Saiko Hayasaka, went above and beyond in making our night a thoroughly enjoyable one. Despite not being very fluent in English, she translated every single aspect of the dish (down to the specific condiments) to let us know what we were eating. When her translator device was malfunctioning, she even used her own phone to translate the ingredients for us. As part of the dinner, she helped us to film the chef’s cooking process and gave us a special message to make our night all the more memorable. As we could not drink caffeinated drinks at that time, Saiko-san provided an alternative of juice for us too. Her attention to detail, meticulousness and care in her service is truly commendable. All the staff and the delectable meal made this the most memorable dinner for us in this trip. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

お店の雰囲気はスタッフさんたちが作るものだと思うのですが、シェフはじめ、素晴らしい笑顔が溢れているお店です。
娘が、障害者だと言うこともあり気を使う場所も多いのですが、トラットリア銀さんは全て笑顔で対処して下さり、安心してくつろげるお店でした。
お店が2階にあるので、障害のある娘には階段が不安で星が4つです。
美味しくて、アットホームで絶対に無くなっては困る、幸せプラットフォームです。
2025.4 トラットリア銀は調理器具の不具合により失火しました。
クラウドファンディングを開始し、2025.6.30の終了時を待たずに目標の1,000万円に到達しました。

Bar Andy is one of my favourite places in Sendai. Andy san is super nice and we talked a lots in simple English and Japanese. His signature cocktail is great, with a good selection of Scotch and Japanese whisky. Good vibe and very welcoming atmosphere ;) Will come back again definitely Ando san!

I'm trying to find the right words for this place. This is the reason I go to bars in Japan. What Seiji and Emi have done here is breathtaking. They cater the experience regardless of your level of Japanese, don't worry they will meet you halfway. The appetizers where awesome and the drinks where spectacular. He literally makes what you want based off a few questions. The dynamic they have together is magical and you really get why the name is Andante. Don't know how else to recommend this place, but it was so much more than a bar. It was a solid memory here in Sendai and I was so lucky to experience it.
We came across this very sophisticated bar while looking for somewhere to have a post-dinner drink. I indulged in two, short gin-based cocktails - a White Lady & a Parisian; both were perfectly mixed with care and an element of fun. My partner tried three different locally-distilled Nikka whiskies; he enjoyed them all.
This bar is a must visit when you’re in Sendai. Mito-san and his wife are unbelievably warm and friendly hosts, serving great cocktails made from fresh local fruit or going with a straight whisky from their wide selection. Suggest asking for those off menu options for some rare whiskies.

Located just a 6-minute walk from JR Sendai Shinkansen Station, ANA Holiday Inn Sendai offers simple yet functional guest rooms with amenities such as air conditioning, satellite TV, and free WiFi. The hotel's warm international restaurant/bar provides a casual dining experience. Its convenient location, just a 10-minute walk from Sendai Railway Station, makes it an ideal base for exploring local attractions. Guests have praised the accommodating staff for their excellent service.
First of all, the service was great. The front desk staff were very helpful and easy to communicate with all during our 7 night stay. The housekeeping staff were always a pleasure when we asked to exchange towels.
We have stayed at several ANA Crowne Plazas, but this Holiday Inn surpassed them in many ways. I know it's a personal preference, but I felt even the bath and shower products were better as well.
The room was clean, spacious and comfortable
Location was good... an easy 15 minute walk to the station(s) and conbinis and grocery stores nearby. There is a coin laundromat a few blocks away. (My pet peeve is that nicer hotels do not offer self service laundries, I believe that good service should be adding options, not just replacing with full service laundry. But that is an industry thing, not this hotel's fault).
The only small glitch was that we generally choose not to have daily housekeeping as I have sleep equipment that I get tired of packing up every day. They do have a policy of mandatory cleaning on the 5th day. That is good, but we did not know until the front desk called us on that day, just moments before we were leaving the room. We wished we were told at checkin or the day before just so we could plan. I assume that this may have been a rare mistake as the staff was fantastic with every other detail. The policy is good, and I do trust the housekeeping staff, I just would prefer my equipment not out when cleaning is happening.
Overall, this was one of our most pleasant hotels we have stayed in Japan.

The hotel is in a great location, but the cocktails at their lobby bar were a real letdown. Definitely not what you’d expect from such a prime spot.
I booked the smoking room by mistake, the receptionist said no other room available, but I found there were empty rooms available that night from google maps, I argued and finally got a nonsmoking room with extra ¥3000,however, I don’t think the room was better than the room I booked. No water provided, only one key card for couple,and no view.breakfast not bad but too many people at 7:00, that’s because a group from Taiwan occupied all seats. Therefore the conclusion is, the hotel is only suitable for group guests.
We were a little disappointed by the hotel. We didn't get the room type booked (had to share a bed when we booked two beds). The rooms are dated. But, the price is lower than nearby hotels, so it's a balance. We would choose a different hotel if in Sendai again.

Overall, the ANA Holiday Inn Sendai excelled in both its facilities and service quality, and I highly recommend it. On my next visit to Sendai, I will definitely choose to stay here again to enjoy this wonderful time. This was a very satisfying and pleasant stay!
This hotel failed to guarantee the safety and property security of its guests. During our stay, an intruder managed to sneak into our room and steal cash and credit cards while we were asleep at night—even though we had securely locked the door! When we requested assistance, the hotel was completely uncooperative, refusing to properly support the police report or cooperate with the investigation. We have serious doubts about the hotel’s management and staff, and we no longer trust their competence or professionalism!

As a foreigner from Portland, OR, this restaurant in Sendai gave me a taste of home. The drinks are amazing, the donuts are not only absurdly cute, but also delicious, and the food is perfectly portioned! My go-to order is the keromen donut and the jerk chicken burrito. I've also tried the lemon curd donut and it's amazing. Burritos are not easy to find in Sendai, but at HEY, they are fresh and comforting. Sometimes the wait time is a little long, but it is so worth it.

A chic, modern cafe that's located not too far away from the Katahira campus of Tohoku University. Really great sandwiches. They also have open-faced sandwiches, which I don't think I've seen anywhere else in Japan. If you're looking for a fancy place for a brunch date, I think this place will suit you just fine. It's a bit pricey though, as there's no option to do a sandwich and drink combo. The standard coffee is underwhelming for how expensive it is, so I think you might be better off ordering a latte or Mexican mocha.

The star of Sendai Station! Sure there's tons of Gyutan shops here but Senreizushi was one of the best sushi I've had in Japan so far. Small standing sushi bar, fits 8 people max. Walked in on 6/11 lunch time and had no wait despite it being standing sushi bar with roughly 10 spots. Fast service and excellent taste. Fairly priced. The sushi masters were friendly and offered an English menu to choose a la carte from.
The line for this standing sushi place was quite long so we had to wait a bit. It was our first time trying fresh sushi in Sendai and it did not disappoint. Everything is so fresh and tasty with amazing texture (especially if you’re like me, used to cheap chewy takeaway sushi in the west). They do have a multilingual menu, and you can simply point what you want to order. There is no price tag on the multilingual menu though, so if you want to keep tack of what you’re paying for you’ll need to to either ask each time you order or use Google Translate camera. For reference I had 7 pieces of sushi (some basic, some premium) and costed me around 1,750 yen.
The chef that served us was lively and skilled. Even asked us if we’re okay with wasabi and made sure we know soy sauce was already put on the sushi when given to us.

ホントは芯タンのお弁当が良かったのですが、そちらは注文を受けてから焼くので２０分ほど時間がかかるとのこと、チョット時間に余裕がなかったので出来合いのがある普通の牛たん弁当を購入です。
その牛たん弁当の牛たんは塩味と味噌味の厚切り牛たんがそれぞれ３切れずつのミックス、味噌も美味しいですが、やっぱり塩がイイですね、牛タンそのものの味をしっかり感じられるしそれを引き立てる塩加減もちょうど良い、美味しくいただけました。

I ordered the salmon miso Yaki and shrimp tempura for my toddler and they were great as well.

Have to say it’s just so-so. It’s a public holiday so the whole floor was crowded. I brought a takeaway from here, but probably the quality of the beef tongue is less as good as the other competitors. It has a shorter queue as a result tho
The gyutan thick cut is to DIE FOR. I ordered another plate just so I could savor that tender and juicy flavor a little longer. There may be more famous places nearby but don’t count this place out!
First time taking gyutan - beef tougue. It was like more chewy version of beef. We order 2 different set meals with the one more expensive with more fat? I personally prefered the cheaper one, around 1550yen. It comes with cabbage and soup. Quite a satisfactory meal. It is just at the JR station so rather convenience. You might need to queue during peak hour.

The food is OK but the attitude of the crew is so bad ,especially for foreign customers (no English speaking). We came here with expectation as our first meal in Japan but they really made us down. They didn't give us とろろ so we were not able to enjoy our "tororo meshi" (muddy yam on rice) as other customers do! They also refuse to give us the bonus drink provided by the bank (special offer by using their credit card). We'll never go to that restaurant and being treated like refugees again!!!
A thinner and drier than expected. It seems Special Thick-sliced (Atsugiri) ox tongue is almost the same thickness as usual ox tongue. The surface of ox tongue was cooked crispy. Tried both salt and sauce flavour. Both of them tasted good but nothing really special. Sauce had standardised taste (like Yakiniku no tare.) Good for quick lunch but otherwise, like for dinner, go explore some other places.

This famous yakiniku restaurant in Sendai features Yonezawa beef, one of Japan’s top three wagyu brands. A set meal for two costs around NT$1900. The vegetable appetizer plate was delicious, and the grilled vegetables were sweet and flavorful. The meat selection included beef ribs, tongue, and short plate, rich in marbling and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The service was excellent as well. Highly recommended!

Reservation can be made through the official website of restaurant. There are set meals comprising different parts of Yamagata / Yonezawa Wagyu. Although those beefs were not with rich beef flavor, they were really soft and tender. The grilled beef small intestine is recommended. Staffs were very nice and the private room reserved provided a very good privacy for us. We really enjoyed having a dinner there.
Got in super easily without waiting, and the set meal was amazing—every side dish and the soup were so good. Honestly, both the food and service were perfect. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance!
In Sendai, a must-try is the Yonezawa beef at Kotora. We booked in advance, which turned out to be a wise decision given its popularity. Our server recommended their specials, , which included the melt-in-your-mouth tongue, a generous 200g rib roast, strip steak (my personal favorite for its tenderness), and chateaubriand. We had two orders each to try their special sauce and the salted version..
We also ordered: the stone-cooked bibimbap, avocado kimchi and vegetable side dish. To wash it all down, we enjoyed dry Suntory draft beer, which paired perfectly with our yakiniku feast.
This restaurant offers superb quality meat for Korean-Japanes style BBQ. Must have the beef tongue (牛タン) in thick cut, very tasty and good texture. Also recommed to order beef intestine (ホルモン) very very yummy. This restaurant is also child friendly that they provide kids' tableware.
Reserve a table before you arrive. Amazing food: Wagyu, beef soup and the sauce. Enjoyable dinner with friends. Nice staffs.
This place popped up when I did a search on Google, did not took much hesitation as ratings were high and it was near my hotel.
Yums, I also ordered the Kalbi soup as it was pretty cold outside. It is spicy and very addictive, compliments the grilled beef.
Came slightly after 5pm without a reservation, would recommend a reservation thou.
My husband and I had a great experience, so we went again a few days later and had an even greater experience. The staff are so kind and the food is excellent. If you are near Sendai Station, you absolutely have to go to this place.

Sushi restaurant
The restaurant is small and we waited for half an hour before being led in. And it was worth the wait.
We were led to our counter seats and were handed an English menu. The speciality of the store is their sushi but we decided to try their conger eel. Despite it not being their specialty, it was delicious. We also ordered a serving of fatty tuna and indeed, their sushi was amazing. Our dinner ended with a scoop of strawberry sorbet which was really refreshing.
The waiters and waitresses, while not fluent in English, was trying their best to assist us. They were also very friendly in helping us navigate the menu.
I highly recommend this place if you are in the vicinity and crave for sushi or conger eel.

My sister always talks about the long lines at Sushi Tetsu every time she’s visits Sendai, so after visiting Ryusendo, we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, the line was indeed long, but it moved quickly.Our server spoke English well and recommended the Chef’s sushi platter, sampler of different types of sushi, including my favorites uni, unagi, and toro (fatty tuna). I also ordered an ocean perch miso soup, while the others couldn’t get enough of the melt-in-your-mouth toro and decided to order a toro roll as well. For drinks, our server recommended the hot honjozo sake, which is a local favorite. For dessert, our meal came with a refreshing peach ice cream. If you don’t mind waiting for a table, Sushi Tetsu is definitely worth it!
Sushi set, $4280 was good though a bit expensive. However, extra orders I ordered was extremely expensive. 4 more items, Aragi sashimi, Siroco, Ebi and tekamaki totalled close to $9000.
This is one of very few times I felt I was over charged in Japan
It seems most people order the nigiri x11 piece superior grade, and they have chefs preparing the plates in expectation for orders. I went with a set which includes a shrimp broth and dessert. The otoro was remarkable, even their regular tuna was better than average. Unfortunately their gunkan maki was small. Usually a lineup to get in. On the expensive side. English menu does not have the same selections available, I’d recommend using Google translate.

too expensive for what it's worth, i have had the same grade of sushi for much less. single piece orders of maguro, hotate, aji, salmon roe, a few others and kaki came to 7,000 yen. not worth it imo.

Rikyu is a cozy restaurant located near Westin Sendai, offering delicious grilled beef tongue and excellent service. Had a fabulous dinner here, were able to book using Google reservations and the staff were fantastic, they also had an English menu and spoke good English! Now on the food, this is the best gyutan and beef we've had in Japan, and since Sendai is the home of gyutan, we had high hopes, but they were exceeded!
We had the gyutan miso set that was tasty and the meat was bouncy but tender and luxurious gyutan curry set which has meat melt in your mouth, and both were amazing. Highly recommend the tomato and potato salads too, just make sure you bring your appetite as you will leave full and satisfied!

The beef tongue curry and tomato stew were very tasty! The restaurant has counter seats as well as tables for larger groups. Absolutely wonderful beef, me and my mom’s favorite meal during our trip in Japan thus far. The beef tongue Hamburg was delicious and my mother’s beef tongue stew was absolutely wonderful. Accompanied with beer, salad, and soup, it made for a perfect meal. Definitely try it out, especially if you’re staying at The Westin right next door!
