The 20 best restaurants to have dinner in Cheddar

When I heard that the old team had taken back control of the Riverside Inn I just had to go back. They used to produce tasty, hearty, good value food. The most recent - now departed - management produced awful overpriced flavourless mush. Last night we visited for the first time since Huw and Jo returned. My wife and her friend had the Cheddar Ales beer battered cod and chips. I should add at this point that my wife's friend grew up in her parent's fish and chip, spent over thirty years running a Chinese restaurant, and most recently helped her brother in law establish a successful new fish and chip shop in Sussex. She was full of praise about the colour and flavour of the batter and how crunchy it was. Both she and my wife completely cleaned their plates. Not a crumb left! I had the Gorge Pie, which was steak and ale. It was a shortcrust pastry tray-baked pie (like I used to get up north when I was a kid) and it was chock-full of quality lean steak. It's difficult to say how big it was as the photo doesn't seem to do it justice, but I was eating that pie for ages and enjoying every bite. The chips were crispy and the mixed greens veg were also good (although t.b.h. I've always been a meat and potatoes man!)

We had a lovely meal at this very spacious and welcoming pub. Three members of the party had the Sunday roast. There was an option of different meats. The service was spot on. We were attended to very quickly and the food arrived well presented and hot. There were other choices on the menu too. The pub and it's garden areas were lovely and clean. The restaurant and bar staff were all very friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Huge comfortable garden, huge portions of yummy food, great service. The Pie was massive, enough to feed a couple people. Ploughman’s has cave aged cheddar in there and a lot of it so well worth the 13£.

Came here on Monday after our hike around the gorge and the Mendip Hills. Super friendly and efficient staff and the food was really nice. Particularly enjoyed the Gorge Pie with mash and gravy. We sat in the restaurant which was very relaxing looking out into the garden. Definitely recommend👍

3 of us ate here, the food was fantastic (especially the beef bourguignon), really generous portions, especially for the price! Service was quick (we were seated at 7 and had finished our meal by 7:45). The staff we really friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend!

We had a meal at the pub last week with a group of us from work. So pleased the old management are back. The food was really really good and service was friendly and fast. The food under the other management was not good, so if you have not visited for a few months it’s definitely worth going back now!

After a trip through the caves we decided to stop off for a scone. Upon entering we were greeted by a wall of celebrity pictures. Adam richman(ManVsFood) the toasty was absolutely stunning and is probably the nicest one I’ve ever eaten accompanied by homemade coleslaw which again was heavenly. Couldn’t not have a scone too. Staff unbelievably polite. 10/10 recommend

Lovely small cafe. Ordered two teas and two plain scones, only to realise they were charging us more for not taking the cream scone offer . So, I changed to two cream scones and tea with no cream and got the offer price. Perfect sense 🤷 Nice scones

Wife's toasty was good. My ploughman's however was culinary anarchy! I've never been served a whole celery stick, whole spring onion and half an apple before... and leaving the sticker on was the piece de resistance! A little more effort in preparation needed methinks!

Cafe Gorge is a perfect little pause before the adventure begins. It opens earlier than the museum, so you can start the day here with something fresh and tasty, enjoying a quiet moment before the crowds arrive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it easy to relax and gather energy before exploring the gorge and caves.

We visited for lunch after the cafe caught our eye a few weeks prior whilst in the area. It was so nice we visited 2 more times over our weekend. The quiche and salad was delicious, especially the coleslaw which was so delicious I asked the waitress what was in it. When we visited the second day, the waitress recognised us and commented on us visiting again, which I thought was a nice touch. Food delicious. Service amazing. Atmosphere friendly.

We stopped here for our lunch after a hike in Cheddar Gorge and were understandably hungry. The staff accommodated us even though we did not have a table booked in advance. The pizza and garlic bread served us well.. not the best we have had, but definitely satisfying after a long hike. The real highlight was the outdoor seating with its lovely view of the small water body and garden space!

My partner booked a surprise overnight stay in an Airbnb near to Cheddar Gorge on the 26th of June for my birthday. The host of the Airbnb recommended “La Rocca” in Cheddar as a place to go for a lovely meal. Well all I can say is Wow and what a recommendation. When we arrived the place was full and buzzing which was a good sign. The setting was lovely, food amazing and the staff very welcoming and accommodating. Lots to choose from on the menu and my partner and I decided to order a separate dish each and share so we could try a bit of both. We ordered the Italian Calzone and the carbonara. I had never had Calzone before but omg. This Calzone was a good size, full of filling and oozing with flavour. Would definitely recommend and look forward to trying another Calzone to compare. The carbonara was also delicious and full of flavour too. Unbeknown to me my partner had told them it was my birthday and when they brought the pudding out they placed candles in it and numerous members of staff sang happy birthday which was a lovely touch. All in all a very good meal at a wonderful location. Look forward to returning some day and would definitely recommend to others.

Fantastic restaurant! We wanted somewhere nice and chilled with good food while visiting Cheddar and La Rocca hit the spot! Food was excellent, very generous with meat and fish! Service was excellent too, all staff friendly and helpful. We had a food allergy mishap with dessert but it was changed and rectified immediately without hesitation.

Such a great restaurant! My family and I went for my birthday and the place was full but staff were attentive and so friendly and the food and drinks came quickly. The food was delicious and really high quality and the atmosphere had such a great vibe. I highly highly recommend :)

Food is amazing and made with heart. We enjoyed a lovely lunch there. We were served by one of the male staff. He was nice and patient to give us time to take photo of the food (I appreciated how the salad is presented despite it isn’t a main dish.)

La Rocca is an absolute gem! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and the food is out of this world – the pizza and pasta dishes are some of the best I’ve ever had. Also, our favourite desert was called "Torta della nonna" and let me tell you: You MUST try it! While enjoying lunch I could see through their kitchen window the chefs and cooks doing their job and it's actually amazing how much work they put into it and making sure every plate is filled with passion. Cosy atmosphere, great service, and fantastic value. Whether it’s a date night, family meal or just a quick bite, this place never disappointed. Can’t wait to come back! Proper Italian cuisine!

Lovely staff, cute pub, expensive but amazing food, worth the 45 minute wait. The wait is the only reason for 4 stars. Nice beer garden with a great view, good beers, great triple cooked chips, roast dinners were insanely good. Always get the cauliflower cheese!! Chicken was moist, pork belly was perfectly cooked, homemade sauces and gravy were great. Would definitely come again. A slight walk from cheddar centre, but we were recommended by a guy who worked in a bar down the road, and it was well worth the walk.

Nice pub but many reviews are misleading in my opinion. The lady at the bar was very lovely, but we were disappointed that we couldn't order anything to eat, despite the Google reviews having ample photos of food and menus. I understand the pub stopped serving food two years ago, so a lot of the reviews are out of date.

We visited on the evening of the 4th.Loved the pub - warm friendly atmosphere.Great decor, range of drinks and facilities.Despite us commandeering the pool table the locals were really friendly.Had a grab evening and would love to return .Highly recommended.

So, so lovely! The food was honestly some of the best pub food I've ever had. The decor was lovely and the service was really lovely and friendly. I'd definitely recommend!

Can't say enough about how nice it was. The food was fantastic. Mussels were lovely, fish was huge, the chips (both chunky and fries) were seasoned perfectly and the ceasar salad was gorgeous. The pub was bright and welcoming. The staff and service was fantastic and overall the food was great value for money with big potions. If we weren't just here on holiday we would be back again and again.

Sunday lunch - what a stunning meal! Beautiful meat and a selection of superb vegetable dishes - everything cooked to perfection and so tasty! We didn't even have to ask for an extra jug of gravy, it was brought out with all the veg. Before we left I booked Sunday lunch for the whole family in a week or two. Delicious!!

We had the Sunday roast today. The food was quite disappointing and there was about a 40 minute wait after we ordered for the food to arrive. The yorkshire's hadn't risen and were tough doughy balls. The roast potatoes were hard on the inside. The food was just a little bit warmer than outright cold. Pics of yorkshires below. The pub itself is nice though and the front of house were friendly.

Easily the worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had. Stale potatoes, flavourless meat and veg, and the gravy is obviously from granules… would not return for food or recomend… It is lovely for a drink in the garden.

We Ate here twice during our stay in cheddar mainly for the large beer garden it offered, dog friendly and not too busy. Good basic affordable pub grub. Had lovely chilli beef nachos. Tuna jacket. And a selection of cheese topped chips with other light bites on offer. Very easy going, casual, friendly unhurried pub atmosphere. One time we even had an impromptu choir sing some sea shanty songs in the garden, was a lovely surprise! This pub Suited us perfectly for Lunch and a pint with the dog after a long hot walk around the gorge. Great location.

Lovely cosy pub just off the high street. Great quality food and portion size is fantastic! Service was fast and friendly. Dog friendly which is always a brilliant bonus!

We came here for a meal, very friendly staff, greeted us as we walked in, wll staff appear happy to be at work, food was amazing and reasonably priced. We did need to ask a local lady if there was a car park and how to access it, a small sign on the road would be good. Would recommend

Portions- Unfortunately the plate for the small roast dinner was rather small, and over filled. Too small for a main meal. More of a starter plate. The pizza was on the rather small size as well. Overall the food was lovely and enjoyable.

A store with a variety of items and there are trial samples. The staff are cooperative, but unfortunately, at the time we were unable to enter the museum.

The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company is an absolute gem and a must-visit when in Cheddar. We were truly captivated by the rich history of this place – the very heart of where Cheddar cheese originated. Watching the traditional cheesemaking process and learning about the craft added so much depth to the experience. The visit to the shop was a delight in itself. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the cheese tasting was an absolute highlight. The quality of the cheese is exceptional – from the smooth and creamy varieties to the cave-aged Cheddar with its rich, complex flavor. We couldn’t resist taking some home! If you appreciate history, craftsmanship, and excellent cheese, this is the perfect place to visit. A truly memorable experience that combines tradition, taste, and a beautiful setting in the stunning Cheddar Gorge. Highly recommended!

The museum was less than expected compared to the Swiss cheese museum. They should provide the schedule online so visitors can come at the right time for the shows. Also, the staff were not very welcoming or friendly to guests coming from all over the world. The cheese-making exhibition needs improvement: seating should be available for watching, and more detailed information should be provided, similar to the Swiss cheese exhibition (La Maison du Gruyère)

The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company shop is a must visit in Cheddar Village! Fantastic selection of delicious cheeses, paired perfectly with their tasty chutneys and jams. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, making the experience even better. A paradise for cheese lovers!

Bought some cheese straws from the company, came with hair ingrained. I emailed the company to advise them of this and ask for a refund. As I didn’t purchase directly from them I was advised I couldn’t be refunded - but no apology over the hair and their standards. Straws themselves very overly salty. Wouldn’t recommend.

What an incredible experience at the Cheddar Cheese Company! We were absolutely delighted by the selection and, more importantly, by the wonderful service we received from Gracie. She was an absolute star – so informative and friendly, answering all our questions with a genuine passion for the cheeses. It's truly refreshing to see a young person taking such pride in their job; Gracie's enthusiasm was infectious! Honestly, her excellent recommendations and delightful demeanor were the primary reason we ended up spending so much money in the shop that day. She's a true asset to your team!

The best Thai restaurant I've ever been in united Kingdom. Having a quiet meal with authentic food is a 5 star to me. The inside decoration is beautiful. You can feel the Thai vibes with their soft music background. The Asian Staff greeted and we were cheerfully seated for table for 2. Been presented with their contemporary leather menu/drink cover list. Which is easy to order. We ordered the spicy garlic sauce in vegetable with pork and pad Thai with pork for our main, starter is the sharing for 2 which has a 4 choices of dumplings, spicy chicken wings, spring rolls and sesame chicken toast and the sauce compliments it. The pad Thai I really enjoyed it.pork was tender and tasty. The food and drinks are all reasonable price. Absolutely recommendable and top rated Thai restaurant. Will definitely comeback. Thank you.

Absolutely incredible Thai meal. Been to Thailand several times and have never eaten anything that comes close to the food here. We live in Lancashire and would happily drive down and spend a night over to eat here.

The experience at Zen Thai is incredible. We come most years on our annual trip to Somerset and the food is just outstanding. The service is also incredible, from everyone there but particularly Spencer. You really feel like there is real effort and care put into everything.

We recently ordered takeaway from Zen Thai Restaurant, and the food did not disappoint. The dishes were undeniably authentic—full of rich, well-balanced Thai flavors that were absolutely delicious. We ordered four dishes, and every single one tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. However, the price point was quite steep. The total came to over £60, which felt expensive for a takeaway meal, even considering the quality. It’s a bit of a shame, as the food itself was excellent, but the cost makes it more of a splurge rather than a regular option. If you’re after genuine Thai cuisine and don’t mind paying a premium, Zen Thai is definitely worth a try.

Last minute booking & luckily accommodated on 4/10/25.The decor, atmosphere was great.Food - freshness, presentation and flavours were fabulous.Pricing we felt was very reasonable. Everything would have been 5* except as we were leaving the manager or owner was rude in trying to lay up a table and attempting to get us out, whilst the young waitress was answering a query - giving us directions.We felt it was rude and extremely annoying to us and dismissive of the young girl who was very attentive and helpful.We acknowledge it was very busy but a real shame.

The tom yum and massaman curry were very rich and flavorful. The wait staff was accommodating and not overbearing.

An excellent restaurant, with high standards of customer care. We hadn't booked, but they very kindly fitted us in within 20 minutes. Booking is advised, as it's popular. The good is very well presented. No sense of rush, although they are often full. Recommended.

Made an order on line but never went through. Rang the restaurant explained I was waiting for my food. We were staying at the Cheddar Club campsite . They were very apologetic and could not do enough to help us get our delivery asap. The delivery drivery was very pleasant, and dressed very smart! ( I always think this has a reflection on the kitchen) The food was absolutely beautiful and I would highly recommend this restaurant. X

The food was wonderful and the food arrived in very good time and was very delicious. Our server Salik vary very nice and gave us lots of advice of what to do in Cheddar and life in general he was definitely the highlight of the evening and he even gave us the Popadoms for free, how generous! If visiting cheddar again I would definitely visit again.

Food was really nice and plenty of it. The service in the restaurant was friendly however the server forgot to give us menus, he split a drink onto our cutlery when bringing to the table and didn't offer another set and when he came to take the food order the phone starting ringing and he ran off to answer that when we were part way through. The atmosphere was limp because we were the only diners in there, however I would go here again.

One of the worst places to eat... the main waiter was rude, blunt, unfriendly, we ordered our food to be all served together this came n 3 stages the main meal first , no rice , then the starters arrived still no rice to accompany the main dishes, no serving spoons given, to serve, then when all the food did eventually turn up it was standard, still the main waiter needs to go on a customer service course, even if he is the owner? then they asked the other family if they had enjoyed their meal they did not ask us, then he took away my drink before i finished it, the other waiter did ask if i had enjoyed my meal i said not really and gave him the reasoning, he did say it was hard getting all the order together although what i did respond was if you order a meal you would expect the accompaniments to be delivered at the same time, this Waiter had a lovely warm nature shame about the other waiter we definitely felt unwanted even though they took our £140.00 😔

Had a take away delivered to our campsite which was still really hot on arrival, the food was really tasty and the best I've had in a long time, will definitely order again when we are here

Worst Indian restaurant I have ever visited😱😳Felt unwelcome right from the start; it was way too hot in the dining area; the order got messed up and took ages to be served; and the food was very average. My advice? Avoid this place like the plague if you want a half decent meal and reasonable service😡😡😡

We have just had a large cod, chips, battered sausage with curry sauce and mushy peas. It was all excellent with just the right amount of salt & vinegar! The batter was so crispy and fish chunky . It was pleasant to be served by such a lot of happy staff! We will return and best wishes for your reward rating!! 🤗

What a pleasant surprise on an already amazing visit to Cheddar Gorge. Everything ordered on the menu was super tasty, especially the cheesy chips and curry sauce. Best I ever had!!! I loved how there was no excess oil on any of the food. This is a proper gem in Cheddar Gorge. The staff were lovely as well. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting. Thank you!!!

Just picked up some cod and totally shocked by what I was given. Greasproof paper wrapped around the fish and then the batter. Absolutely horrified my child had eaten some of this. What’s going on. Just took my fish back and there answer was that’s how they do it in there country. We are supposed to pick it of. Avoid at all cost. Not same people as was it has changed hands. With regard to your answer is complete lies. No one was aggressive and we certainly won’t be back. And yes mistakes happen and to say wrong order is not true. If someone asked for fish with no batter why did we get greaseproof paper and batter. If you have video of my husband being aggressive please share. This has now been reported to environmental health. Because this is appalling and your attitude as a manager. New owners and you can tell.

Absolutely terrible food and atmosphere. A while back when I was a kid we used to come here nearly every Sunday when it was run under the previous owners. Now this place is a dive. The dining room was no longer what we remembered. The seating areas were not organised to accommodate people. Table service was no longer available and takeaway boxes were piled on numerous tables without being picked up and put in the bin. This caused a huge issue for those waiting for takeaway and table service alike as this made the waiting room extremely crowded and lack of staff made waiting times longer than usual. People were not served in accordance to their priority of order so waiting around was a faff. Even if you wanted to throw the rubbish away yourself no bins were put inside. Horrible. The food. Don't even get me started. Before the portions were of a reasonable size and the batter on the fish was cooked to perfection. I was met with a piddly little portion of fish and the batter halfbaked. One of my friends even had their chips on top of the fish causing the batter to peel off and stick to the chips. My chip had hair on it which was absolutely vile!!!! No attention to cleanliness or level of service. The once Great Chip Shop is now in ruin due to terrible management. To anyone coming here. AVOID.

Great people! Looked after, great food - we had more chips than the photo shows I couldn’t keep away from it!! Curry sauce top notch and peas a pleasure. We’ll be back for the battered sausage next. Cheers guys all the best!

We ordered food and it was twice the price we ever paid before The onion rings where £4 and very burnt! Daughter had halloumi sticks for £6! And it was mozzarella! Also burnt. All round very overpriced for what isn't even the real thing and very burnt! New management, shame.

Wow!! what a lovely fish and chip shop. On a family holiday we couldn't decide whether it was a chinese or chip shop for dinner. Finally decided on chip shop and im glad we did. Food: hot, tasty and fresh Staff: Extremely helpful, thanks for the gravy. Price: £48 Family of 5 with large meals. Not bad at all in my opinion. Would definitely recommend 10/10

Excellent for take away food. Served quickly and piping hot. Easy to take home and enjoy. Tremendous selection of over 100 authentic dishes. Cook is from China and knows what to do. Get their ingredients and spices fresh from Bristol on regular basis Would recommend for fast meal. Had crispy lamb and it was yummy.

food tastes decent but chicken balls obviously weren’t okay as i was throwing up an hour after eating and my partner was throwing up out the other end. crispy beef and chilli sauce didn’t have any meat in it was literally just batter. not a very good experience.

Really disappointed with the food served. I ordered chicken in lemon sauce. The chicken was totally overcooked and dry and looked like it had been in a freezer for months before being chucked in a deep fat fryer. Nothing freshly cooked about it, just bland, old food, made just about edible once covered in the lemon sauce but not at all enjoyable. Definitely won't be eating from here again.

Food poisoning. The most recent review before mine says the same thing. We had Chinese from here with our friends, the only thing I had that was different to them was the chicken balls, and I have been violently ill with d&v for two days since. Will avoid from now on.

The starters were among the best I've ever had! We had Satay Chicken and Prawn toast, and I have to say, both of them were were probably the best ever in a Chinese - restaurant or take-away! It's a shame the mains didn't complete the experience - after those starters, we had some Egg Fried Rice, Chicken in Batter with Honey & Garlic Sauce, and some Roast Chicken Chinese Style (all pictured). The portions were VERY generous, but unfortunately, all three were incredibly bland, and it put a bit of a downer on the whole evening. The service started well, but by the end, we spent so much time waiting that we eventually left on our own - even though we were the only ones left in the restaurant. We'd definitely go again, but order our starters as mains!

Our group of 8 went for a sit down meal last night. What a fantastic experience. Staff were all very friendly, patient and welcoming. Ordered a set meal for 4 (4 of our group were fussy young children (lol)). Portions were more than ample (even took a small 'doggy bag' home). Food was great, tasty and looked good. We were not rushed nor felt they wanted us out and spent most of the evening here. Shame we don't live closer. We would defiantly come back here. Well done to all the staff. Don't take any notice of some of the other negative comments. A great big thumbs up from our group (even the fussy children)👍

Terrible, bland food. No flavour and low effort.

Currently doesn't serve food but is a nice place for drinks and games, nice warm fire and mulled cider and wine. They let us stay in the carpark in our campervan, they said it might be noisy but we weren't disturbed at all. A few different rooms and a beer garden. The games room had free pool which my son enjoyed.

Room had no central heating, but portable heaters. Beer garden immediately outside room windows at same level. Noisy in evening, but earmuffs essential. Lovely bed and loads of sockets/usb port. Friendly staff. Car park good size.

Went to the Kings Head whilst in Cheddar - what a lovely pub! It feels very quaint and welcoming, with a cosy thatched roof and log fire that’s perfect for autumn evenings, and a beer garden for summer! The staff were great and the owner was especially attentive, served us personally and gave us lots of great recommendations on what to see in the town. They also show the sports, which is a nice touch. Overall, a warm and friendly place that’s well worth a visit. Will definitely be back!

Clean and tidy, from research before booking i expected there to be food served but unfortunately not. Found it very noisy because the beer garden and smoking area were right outside our window and our room was on the ground floor (I think it's the only room) en suite was okay but the toilet seat was very loose. No heating in bedroom otherwise than an electric heater which was on an extension lead.

Great place for a pint. Friendly and welcoming with fresh beer and sometimes CHEESE! They have sports on in every room so you can ask if there’s something you want to watch. It’s a fantastic place, in fact we’ve been every day in our week long holiday.

Stayed overnight on a bikepacking trip. Really comfortable. Not serving food by great chippie not far away. Left something by accident and returned straight to me by post. Terrific value for money!

Found this place yesterday went today and will be going every day that we are here on holiday. It is a proper locals pub and you are made to feel like you are a local with all being so friendly and welcoming l. Unfortunately it doesn't serve food anymore but the banter makes up for that.

Stayed at Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa and ordered from the downloadable app for delivery. Put a note on the order that we’d meet the delivery driver at the reception area. Delivery was on time with a phone call prior to leaving the shop. Driver was friendly, food was hot and very tasty and portions were good. Highly recommend 👍👍

Food, service and location are amazing. There is a paid car parking opposite to the shop and near to cliff street car park. We have started our trip with snacks and explored the area, when we have completed the trip and were very tired and looking for place to eat then that Cheddar kebab kitchen took our attention and increased our appetite. We decided to try the menu. The service was very professional. The staff told us that food is halal as well. Our food was very delicious, including lamb and chicken shish, kebabs, chips, salad etc Enjoyed our food and kids didn't hesitated to finish their portions as well. Thanks for the wonderful food and service.

Collection to take away - went late at night, but don’t think are many tables to eat inside maybe during the day? Ordered kebabs and pizzas. Food is always fresh, very tasty marinades, big quantities, good service. Open kitchen and very clean. I would recommend.

There is a great variety on the menu, and the food is always very good. The staff are also very friendly.

We ordered from here on a Saturday nite, we ordered via phone and checked the website for prices. We ordered 2 large kebabs 2 small chips and a plain cheese burger we were charged 32.50 which did not add up to the prices on the website even still 32.5 is extremely steep, I would really check prices with this place if you are ordering from a holiday place then you will be over charged. The food was OK nothing special

Booked in for Sunday roast which I can honestly say was the best roast I've had for a long time. So many pubs do roast very average but this was way above that. Everything was cooked lovely and the service was great. Well worth a visit and we'll definitely be back.

This lovely hotel is very well situated, upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming member of staff who gave us a personal tour of the hotel, we also received free complimentary snacks in our room that also had very quirky names, our room was large and our bathroom was huge. We were booked in to the restaurant for the evening where the food and service was outstanding. Service from all the staff couldn’t have been better and our stay was worth every penny and more.

Visited 9 years ago returned this week not much changed still fantastic value for money. Rooms spot on. Welcome brilliant staff excellent and friendly helpful all the way. Excellent stay I'd recommend to everybody. Huge car park. Don't miss this. 4 stars above Premier Inn and better beds. Absolutely fantastic breakfast

Lovely place in the centre of cheddar. A good selection of drinks at the bar. Some nice food on the menu. We had a Thai chicken curry each and some chips. Sadly the only brought 1 meal out, so I had a small wait for mine to be cooked. They kindly provided us with 2 pints as an apology which was great. Lovely staff, can't do enough for you.

This pub exceeded expectations. The sandwiches are outstanding — fresh ingredients, generous portions, and packed with flavor. Service was quick and professional, even during peak times. While it’s a bit on the upmarket side in terms of price, the quality more than justifies it. I’m glad I listened to the reviews — this place really delivers. We were a group of 8 that had Sunday Lunch. Both the food and the service was brilliant. Lovely size portions and the quality was spot on.

I spent a long time searching for the perfect base to explore the south of England, and the moment I saw the photos of this hotel, I instantly fell in love we simply had to stay here. After a long journey, we were welcomed by warm, smiling, and genuinely friendly staff who made us feel as if we were arriving at a friend’s home rather than a hotel. Throughout our stay, we always felt truly cared for the kind of feeling you get when someone is happy to see you return after a day of adventures. Everything was a delight, from the beautifully prepared food to the thoughtful presentation of each dish. The rooms are spacious, cosy, and filled with little touches that make you instantly relax and feel comfortable. We couldn’t recommend this wonderful hotel more, and we will most certainly return to this special place that has found its way into our hearts.❤️

One of our local pubs with a really nice interior and a great outdoor area—especially lovely in the summer with live music and sunshine. The food can be a bit hit and miss. We’ve had some really good roasts here, but some of the weekly menu items have been a letdown. Last time we booked for lunch, they’d unfortunately sold out of food and didn’t call to let us know—but the team gave us a free drink, which was appreciated. They’ve got a unique and rotating selection of ales and ciders. As a lager drinker, there’s usually just one option, but it’s solid. Definitely more fun if you’re into trying different brews. All in all, a nice pub and worth a visit.

Well what can we say about this amazing warm welcoming haven right in the middle of wells …. Every member of staff make it a joy to be around… Always ready and more than willing to help and make your time here as memorable as possible…. An amazing array of drinks and food … Always entertaining never a dull moment… Absolutely 1st class …!!

Booked a two night stay here and was absolutely delighted I did! Ade and his team were magnificent and very welcoming. The bar has 15 draught ales/cides/lagers on offer - the Utopian British Lager was unbelievably good! Henry the chap behind the bar was very knowledgeable. Had a very enjoyable evening meal from the well thought out menu and the full English breakfast recommended and served by Ty was excellent. Super comfy bed in a well presented clean bedroom insured a good nights sleep, the fan was a very thoughtful addition during this hot spell. In all a truly excellent stay looked after by welcoming staff with a great bar, friendly locals, great beer, excellent food and a good nights sleep - I will definitely be back for more of the same please!!

Great location in the centre of Wells. Clean room, although small but good value for money. Lovely choice for breakfast either full English or continental. Only real issue is lack of parking. We parked on the top floor of waitrose and had problems with the machines. I downloaded the app but you can only pay till 6, apparently the barriers come down after this and open the next morning. We left it overnight with no problems.

Sunday lunch. Had the very generous sharing triple roast. Needed a doggy bag, enough for dinner tomorrow. Good food, good value. Friendly. Lots of different beers.

Great place to stay. Right in the middle of all the historic and interesting attractions you come to Wells to see. Nice rooms and comfortable beds. Loved our stay.

Manager in is own words was too busy to read his emails which left me without accomodation upon late arrival. I sent the email in good time and well within working hours to notify that my flight was delayed. Had to stay elsewhere for the first night. Finding a hotel in Wells at 2am was rather challenging. I spoke to the manager the next day. I requested a refund for the night that I wasn't able to make use of the room. He agreed to a partial refund but only after I checked out. I got the partial refund on an invoice emailed to me The partial refund was less than discussed. It should have been 100% of the room cost anyways. The rest of the staff were friendly but the manager is blatantly incompetent and expects clients to pay for his incompetence. Going back on an agreement once the client has left is blatantly dishonest. Telling a client that he is overworked, needs an assistant, and it's not his fault my flight was delayed (EMAILED TO LET HIM KNOW) is extremely unprofessional. Would recomend the Swan next door. At least they are open 24/7 and helpful.

Enjoyed a couple of drinks here whilst waiting for our holiday accommodation to be ready. Staff were really friendly, drinks reasonable value. Garden was nice, but perhaps more shady areas/umbrellas could be offered on really sunny days?

Dog friendly pub with great staff. The food was amazing and good size portions at a good price. Plenty of parking also. Would definitely recommend this place for food we didn't stay here but would think about it for the future

We went for lunch here to escape the mass-tourism in the center of Cheddar. We were glad we discovered this nice looking place. Very friendly and helpful staff (thanks for the tip for visiting Wells afterwards!). Great food dishes and a variety of drinks. Loved the Moroccan burger. Would recommend when in the neighborhood.

Stayed at the campsite with is next to pub, and went for some lunch Saturday-we had the crispy chicken burger and was so nice and really enjoyed it. Then following day we fancied a cooked breakfast to keep us going for the day, we ordered the large and boy was it large couldn’t eat it all as was so filling!! Made sure we ate the lovely sausages and bacon but just too much for me, and came with unlimited tea/coffee. Staff were so lovely and friendly, and made a fuss of our german shepherd, Dexter who enjoyed his sausage by the way!! Will definitely stay at campsite again, as that was nice as well, and will come back to Rodney stoke inn again.

We was staying near by and came in with our autistic son. Staff were lovely and friendly. The food was delicious and they even made changes to suit our son food needs. We enjoyed it that much we went back twice. Would definitely recommend and come again.

Stopped in here with the family for some food and drinks on Sunday evening as we were staying close by at bucklegrove holiday park, what a wonderful place, the food is fantastic, the staff are even better, caters for dogs and children with a little play area. A wonderful little gem of a place that if you’re going through or staying close, is absolutely worth stopping at. Felt more than welcome and looked after.

Lovely place , staff friendly great service with lovely food and drink. I loved my Rhubarb cider pizza and fries, will definitely be back.

Nice and easy to find as just set back from the main road. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff with a decent enough menu and prices, but it was the bizarre and variable decor and atmosphere that made me want to give this funny little restaurant a five star review. Nowadays, many restaurants, pubs, cafes, bistros etc are going for a sleek, modern, clean look to forfill the customer expected experience but this ‘Cider barn’ has the most grotty, old fashioned, comfortable, grungy atmosphere made up from funky decorations such as tin signs, recycled furniture, funky wallpaper and carpets. It definitely captivates friendly locals and those interested in cars and bikes, but also the younger generation that just fancy an upbeat, cheap place to meet and have good vibes at. The pizzas were delicious and the cider even better. If your looking for something more conservative, sleek and ‘cute’ or ‘romantic’, I wouldnt recommend this, but if your looking for something truly independent and authentic with a home made atmosphere where you feel you can be yourself, come and give them a visit! I believe they do live music events too, so perhaps visit them on one of those dates. Overall, easy to find, good car park, toilets, seating inside and out, pool table, good food and drink and good service. What more can you want?

A real gem of a place, so pleased we ventured out of Cheddar to find it. Friendly owners and even friendlier locals. We were lucky to be there on a music night with very talented people taking it in turns to play keyboard and guitar. Food was fabulous, the big portions caught us out so we had leftovers to take back. Big range of cider, many local and we did our best to try them all, with a few we hadn't seen before. A very dog friendly establishment with lots of the furry friends to meet and greet. They are made very welcome, a dog lovers paradise. Quirky decor that sets it apart from other places. It all made for a fantastic evening.

Called in here mid afternoon, it was uniquely decorated and looked a fun place, tried some of the cider, and took a 3ltr carry out with us. Would like to be there when the live music is on, so maybe we will make another visit next time we're in cheddar.

Absolutely fantastic food and cider!! Black Jack's cider 👌 Handmade Pizzas 👌 Burger and chips 👌 Burgers were proper meaty burgers, no fast food or pub chain rubbish. All food and drinks loved by adults and kids alike. 2 pizzas and a portion of chips were more than enough for a family of 4 for a hearty lunch! Went back with a 9 pint bottle of Black Jack's to last us the rest of the holiday (more like a couple of nights 🤣). Prices are also very good. Wouldn't hesitate coming here again! Extremely good service and very friendly landlord/owner.

We had an amazing meal at Rasoi. We booked a table but was greeted at the door and offered any table we wanted. Staff were friendly and had a great sense of humour. The menu has a great deal of choice and they even offered to tweak the meals to our personal taste. Obviously knew what they were talking about when recommending from the menu and the chefs special was amazing. Couldn't fault the food, service, atmosphere or staff one bit. We will definitely be back.

We visited Rasoi in Somerset for a vegetarian meal and were impressed by both the variety and quality. Highlights: • The vegetarian platter was generous and well-balanced, with each item cooked fresh and full of flavor. • Paneer dishes stood out – soft, well-marinated, and served in rich, spiced gravies. • Dal tadka had a homely taste, comforting and not overly oily. • Freshly made naan and rotis were soft, warm, and served promptly. • The staff were attentive, quick to recommend vegetarian options, and ensured our dietary preferences were respected. • Ambience was relaxed yet refined, suitable for both casual dining and special occasions. Jack fruit biryani was star Small note: A few dishes were slightly on the sweeter side, so if you prefer spicier food, mention. Overall, a great place in Somerset for authentic Indian cuisine. Avoid at all costs reviews don’t live up to the reality - went in during the day wait time was over 25 minutes and this was the result with only 2 other families. No greeting at the door, had to take a menu off the bar and ask can we just sit anywhere Generally disappointed as we love Indian food and wanted to try something different as we have never visited before. Tried to pay for the drinks but it was one or the other to charge altogether around £33 for 5 pieces of paneer on a wrap looking nothing like advertised. What a poor end to a great day visiting the gorge and meeting the lovely people

Zayn and the staff at Rasoi made my daughter’s 16th Birthday very special! They put up balloons and provided a cake, the service was excellent, Zayn even popped out to buy some alcohol 🍾for the family to toast to my daughter’s birthday! 🎂 The food was well presented and delicious 😋 The restaurant soon filled up and had a lovely, friendly atmosphere and the staff and customers all sang “Happy Birthday”’ to Jess!🎂 It was a lovely evening well spent and our family will always go back to Rasoi when visiting The Cheddar Gorge and highly recommend a visit!!

Just had one of the best meals we have ever had out at Rasoi. The corn ribs were superb and we loved the gunpowder potatoes! But everything was delicious. And great that it is bring your own with no corkage fees. Lovely staff. All in all a fabulous experience.

Do not even think of trying food here. Its disgusting you will end up paying £10 for thali to get the worst food with ready to eat paratha! Mango lassi is just a joke. No flavour just some weired food. Dont call ot Indian restaurant just for your business. Learn to cook first.

Fantastic restaurant, lovely friendly staff, nice modern decor and loved the music, food was amazing with great choice and really good value. Great it’s take your own alcohol. As it was a quiet night, they us take our dog in who is very well behaved otherwise we couldn’t have eaten there. Would definitely recommend while you stay in cheddar. A shame we don’t live closer as we would be back.

Had a great meal here this evening! Great customer service and quick to get our food out. Plus we booked a table in advance and were able to bring our dog along too (mentioned/asked when we called). Definitely recommend if you are staying on site, the food was delicious :)

We visited end of may , was not too busy. Got a table with no problems, waiting time for food was OK. Food wasn't bad , nice drinks and cocktails.

We had a really enjoyable experience dining here! The food was nice and the prices are very reasonable for the quality, which made it even better. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service. We had a small issue with one of our dishes, but the manager, Matt, handled it brilliantly. He was friendly, professional, and resolved everything quickly with real expertise and care. It’s rare to see someone so committed to making sure guests are happy. Overall, a great restaurant with excellent food, fair prices, and outstanding service. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Absolutely stunning food, not sure what the older reviews are all about but i just had a cracking meal, super nice fairplay. I would definitely come back. Beer is great aswel with local ale on offer, some top lagers aswel, and with the thatchers factory a few miles up the road theres a great range of at least 4 different ciders offer, just lovely pub grub, really nice.

Due to Covid the place was empty and that reflected in the food, chips tasted of old oil as did the onion rings. Apart from the taste the chips and onion rings were very crispy Now the steak as you can see most of the steak was inedible as it was mainly gristle but well cooked rare, my wife’s was fine Complained and a new steak brought out well cooked rare again but this time no gristle Felt very safe very good social distancing excellent I can not praise enough One last thing our waitress / server Toula May was brilliant the best social distancing we have ever had at any restaurant attentive but not intruding and very friendly

Lovely food!! Please don't take any notice of the old reviews, they must have had an overhaul because we've eaten here twice in the past 3 days and food has been great. We had the pizza which is a deep dish and the kids really enjoyed, the beetroot burger which was really tasty, the beef and bacon burger and fish and chips, all of which were lovely. My only criticism is that the burger buns were floury and i much prefer a seeded or brioche bun. Service has also been great and the staff have been really friendly and accommodating and the service was always with a smile!

Excellent food every time we have eaten here. Sunday roast is lovey and the extras are not too expensive. Staff friendly and helpful. Plus the play park and football pitch is a bonus for the kids

I ordered a pizza and a lamb shish kebab from pizza corner for the first time , it took an hour to come and I’m only up the road , the pizza was undercooked and cold and the lamb shish was sausage meet , over spiced and cold with no bread and the littlest salad. £25 down the drain 🙄 Disappointed !! Id avoid at all cost !!!

food arrived 46 mins late all the food was cold, the garlic bread it self was not even toasted just a slice of brad that was not toasted. the burger i ordered was ice cold not worth eating the chips and nuggets well lets say i would even give it to a dog to eat. after all rating not worth the money definitely not worth waiting 45 mins to eat rubber my 10 year old would of done a better job and cooking then this place

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Terrible food. Doner, chips and cheese wrap had no cheese. Pizza was undercooked and cold. Chicken kebab was a cheap chopped up breaded chicken fillet and a bit of limp salad. £50 for two cold kids dinners, one pizza and two awful kebabs. I have complained and after many phone calls during which I was accused of lying and mansplained the cost of food now, I have been given £25 back. Five days later. Please save your money.

Pizza took an hour to arrive and when it did it was stone cold, they quickly sent another pizza out but this one had the wrong toppings on! Ordered pepperoni got olives! It's Pizza magic all over again. AVOID!!!
