Pub
Gatsby in Salamanca is a lively bar and disco with its own dancefloor, making it a great spot for dancing. It's located near other popular spots like Camelot, La Perla Negra, Zhivago, Capitolium, La Hacienda, La Posada de las Animas and La Bibliotheca. The area around Gatsby is filled with pubs and clubs catering to various preferences.
Ok Music and cheap drinks. The place opens until late and it is usually crowded at the end of the nigh. Drinks are cheap but the quality is not the best, the hangover next day will be rough so watch out!

DO NOT GO HERE OR INTERACT WITH THE PROMOTERS. The promotors are very aggressive in the plaza and PUNCHED my friend in the face. This is so ridiculous as we were just trying to get them to stop bothering us.
Mia C — Google review
Just horrible. Disinterested staff, overpriced and nothing to recommend. Avoid.
Adam D — Google review
maybe next time you pay creepy men to harass women to come into your club, make sure they don’t have crippling anger issues and insecurity. tell me why one of those nasty “promoters” (the short ugly one who has probably never convinced anyone to go to that club in his life) called us “ugly btches” and then punched our friend in the face all because we didn’t want to go to the worst club in all of salamanca. genuinely the most embarrassing behavior i’ve ever seen i swear i saw tears streaming down his face as he tried to cuss us out and insult us. i get your life already sucks because you’re a club promoter who is a head shorter than all the women u beg to go to gatsby, but jesus christ learn some decorum. genuinely the rankest, nastiest bar in all of salamanca. avoid at all costs, especially if you’re a woman. unless you want to get jumped by a gang of short ugly men with anger issues.
Sophie — Google review
Three stars is possibly a bit generous. It’s obvious this place is a student type bar with the toilets in the state that they are in. Cocktail menu is basic, they were fine. Bit on the pricey side for what they are and the beer as well could be a tad cheaper. From the menu it looks like the gin and tonics are where they shine but can’t comment. Average bar on the strip basically, better places in Salamanca
Hayden — Google review
Not great... 13 euros for 2 drinks...late at night when nobody was around
Jason B — Google review
Definitely overpriced. It looks like a bar were you can get a cheap beer and a decent cocktail, but the bill is a terrible surprise.
Ana P — Google review
The music is okay, it was not very crowed. A beer for 3€ is more on the expensive side. I think there are better clubs.

Disco club
Camelot Club is a popular nightlife spot in the area, known for its immensely pleasurable atmosphere. It's one of the favorite places to go out on a Thursday night, along with Gatsby and Zhivago. The club offers cheap shots at only 50 cents, making it great value for money. While it allows minors in, it's recommended to visit on event nights or Thursdays for a livelier experience.
It's loud, it's crazy and it's a lot of fun. If you're a party persons wanting to spend a lovely time dancing with lots of people, this the place. I'd recommend going during weekends because during the week it's a little dull and empty.
Sumaya R — Google review
Me and my friend bought tickets for noche vieja. We went to the club and the line was gigantic, after one hour in the line, the degree was -5, I wanted just to go home and my money back. I talked to the security that was very rude and then to the instagram manager. None could solve my problem of wanting to go inside or my money back. Today is 12 of january and they didn't give my money back, and are saying that will not. Very bad service over all.
Amanda A — Google review
Stopped by for a quick drink and to explore. Poorly served by a rude Host. Not friendly at all! Please improve! We are decision makes and work in hospitality.
Younique T — Google review
A shame. I gave one start since less is not possible. I was there Sunday end of march. As I approach; the gate guard told me " es una fiesta privada " sólo para los de la casa". Whereas everyone was entering without any other question. 1. Who do you consider " de la casa"? Do they have a card? A membership? Something to recognize them? 2 . I made a call because it was my first time in there. I was invited by a close friend. According to Spanish law you cannot use general conditions to not letting someone in your club. These rules have to be: clearly specific and PREVIOUSLY written down. I don't want to think my non Caucasian origin played a role. To make things worse they hire some non Caucasian gate guard( a black guy) so he can state " is not about your origine; Look at me ; I'm African origine and I'm working here" paltry behaviour and explanations The solution of this issues and behaviours are not calling police or writing a letter of complaint. The solution is NOT GOING to these kind of places. So; if you are against discrimination; please do not go to Camelot. So they will go broke and close down. This is the solution.
Miguel A — Google review
The shots are every cheap, only 50 cents so that's very good value. It is a fun nightclub that allows minors in, however a lot of the nights there aren't many people there. I strongly recommend days that there are events or Thursdays.
The P — Google review
Man/woman ratio is around 8 on a single saturday. Music sucks big time. Cocktails are absurd and nowhere close to a good cocktail. If you are so drunk and looking for a quick bathroom, it is very good.
Can I — Google review
Amazed this nightclub is still around! We partied here all the time in the early 90s when I was an exchange student. Back then it was always Gipsy Kings on the dance floor, so I hope at least that has changed ;)
Tor L — Google review
I remember this place I spent some time there in the summer of 1989. Fun club with good dance music. Tone Loc and FYC were the big hits that summer. Lots of students (I was one). Interesting interior with a castle theme. Several time a night they would break into Sevillanas music and us foreigners would clear the dance for the Spanish girls to dance to it. Very fun.

Restaurant
Cum Laude Gourmet - Cvm Lavde - Restaurante is a popular spot near the historic Plaza Mayor, known for its unique atmosphere and dance area resembling the Plaza Mayor. The menu offers a variety of dishes, with the hand-cut Iberian ham being highly recommended. While some patrons found the food to be excellent, there were mixed reviews about the service. The lunch menu is praised for its value and delicious offerings.
My daughter and I had a wonderful meal to celebrate my birthday. Being vegan we were concerned that they would not be able to cater for us - but we were offered 3 dishes which were all delicious! The service was friendly and attentive and the ambience was relaxed but special. A perfect birthday dinner!
Abigail N — Google review
I have never left a negative review in my life, but I feel compelled to speak up after my recent experience. I ordered a 40-day dry-aged steak—priced at 50 euros. While rare is typically the standard for such cuts, what I received was clearly medium-well. This might not bother the average diner, but for those of us who truly appreciate the craft and nuance of dry-aged beef, it’s unacceptable. A steak aged over a month deserves precision and care in preparation—neither of which I received. To be clear, this is not the kitchen’s fault. The issue lies with the server, who made an assumption about how I wanted my steak cooked—likely based on my appearance—rather than simply asking. That assumption was not only incorrect, but deeply unprofessional and, frankly, insulting. Had my Spanish been stronger, I would have addressed this directly. But the fact remains: at this price point, and with such a premium dish, no guest should be subjected to presumptions instead of respectful service. I’ve dined at many establishments and never once had to complain about how a steak was cooked—until now. The flavor, texture, and character that should define a properly aged steak were compromised. I left not just disappointed, but genuinely disrespected. For a restaurant of this caliber, the execution—from service to plate—should reflect excellence. Unfortunately, this experience reflected the opposite. e least.
Cavanaugh P — Google review
Their quality of food was just amazing. From antipasto to desert, nothing failed. It was the best restaurant among the whole places I visited in Spain. Compared to it's quality, the price seemed extremely reasonable too. Will definitely visit again when I come back to Salamanca.
Lemmy — Google review
The food is excellent, really good food. However, I found a few of the waiters a bit rude/careless. One older waiter threw the plates literally on the table and we saw the spices jumping from the plates. Next to this the food was served in a quick pace.
Pim E — Google review
A group of 5 came for dinner, the tapas and raciones selection were great, and there was something for everyone, accompanied by a nice bottle of crianza it was even better. Table service was fast and friendly definitely worth a visit.
Andy S — Google review
The best food I had in Salamanca! We had the salmorejo, mussels and the tartar and they were incredible. I don’t eat meat, and they accommodated me and made my meal vegetarian. They even gave us a free appetizer! So good!!
Ines C — Google review
Near the historic Plaza Mayor, I would recommend any dish on the menu, but specially don't miss the hand cut Iberian ham, there are not too many places where you get such a professional cut and at reasonable price . We ordered half a dish of ham, half sirloin and half rice with presa (tender grilled Iberian pork). We had some beers and paid 50€, for two, is true that it was a light dinner with no desert.

Excellent service and food. We got lucky but you need to make reservations on weekends. Even at the end of October, Salamanca was packed.

European restaurant
Bambú Tapas y Brasas is a stylish gastrobar known for its modern tapas, sharing platters, and grilled meat and seafood. It's a popular spot in the trendy Chinchibarra neighborhood, attracting locals, university students, and tourists alike. The restaurant recently underwent a transformation to return to its roots of offering traditional Spanish tapas and grilled dishes with a street-style twist.
What a treat! We tried the chef's tasting menu, and every course was a taste sensation. The staff were wonderful, making sure everything was well presented, making excellent recommendations, and working hard while keeping a relaxing atmosphere. Congratulations on an excellent menu and service. Our favourites were the mussels and the iberico pork. The house wines are well chosen to balance the flavours. It was one of the best meals we've ever had. Thank you, and we wish you a very successful 2025.

Excellent restaurant in Salamanca, everything I tried was nothing less than espectacular. A MUST try is the prawn & octopus chupito, the cod buñuelo, the pork chops, everything here is guaranteed to be out of this world. The service is top notch as well. Definitely one of the best restaurants I have been to. Keep it up!
Sebastian T — Google review
This was truly excellent. A diverse menu with dishes for all dietary requirements, each perfected to an incredibly high standard. The atmosphere was brilliant, not too loud, just the right volume. The staff were all lovely, and I was very grateful for them accommodating us by speaking to me and my family in both English and Spanish (however I must say I was pleased I was able to speak a good amount of Spanish and come up with some decent replies!). The food is very quick to come out. There wasn’t a single empty table in the place and they still manage to keep on top of things really well. Highlights for me were the Pork Belly, sirloin, and The truffled duck egg. We also had pretty much everything pork and it was all truly incredible. I think my favourite dishes were the pork dishes. Really highly recommend.
Charlie K — Google review
We are on an escorted tour with Collette Tours and our tour manager Philip suggested this place. We arrived for dinner but the place was full with reservation, so I made reservations for the next night. We were seated right next to the kitchen. It was fun watching the chefs prepare the dishes. We felt like we were watching Top Chef. Great atmosphere. We had a variety of tapas, all excellent. We had the Pork skewer marinade Moorish style, the smoked Iberian top shoulder pastrami bun, grilled pork belly roll, the lamb "pincho" oaxaca, and white wine. The most interesting item was the lamb "pincho". We were told to eat it from the bottom. The top had a chocolate syrup. It was a combination of savory and sweet. We really liked it! I really wanted to try the braised scallop, but was pretty full by then. In fact, we gave some of the pork skewer to our friends who were at the next table. For tapas, it's on the pricey side, but the taste, quality, culinary experience and presentation outweighed the prices. The staff was friendly and helpful when we were looking through the menu. If we ever get back to Salamanca, I would definitely dine here again.
Monica P — Google review
Excellent place to get delicious tapas. Lots of wine options and tasty food offerings. I would recommend getting a reservation. I managed to get a seat as I arrived early, but I saw a number of people get turned away. It was a lively venue, with good vibes. They had some English speaking staff and English menus for people like me with poor Spanish skills, but the majority of the patrons were Spanish. It clearly enjoys popularity with locals and travellers alike. I can definitely recommend it.
D C — Google review
Had a delicious dinner here last night. Every member of the team there was fantastic. They were all very kind, attentive, and lovely and took time to explain the vegetarian options on the menu as well as to tell me about the desserts. I had the scallops (10/10, citrusy and the oil was delicious as well, dip your bread in it), patatas bravas (9/10, quite good, hugeee portion), the avocados (20/10, out of this world, would go back only to have this, so flavorful and fresh), tinto de verano (10/10 lovely), and for dessert, the cheesecake (10/10, one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had, so creamy and loved the flaky crust as well). Can highly recommend to vegetarians (but not vegans). Oh, and whoever was in charge of music last night, loved it! It was all 90s and 2000s hits and your girl enjoyed that thoroughly. Remember to reserve in advance. Thank you team 😊

Gran Café Moderno, with over 30 years of history, offers a unique nightlife experience in Salamanca. Despite its name, the bar's exposed-brick interior and antique style transport visitors to another era. It's a great spot to enjoy live music and spend time with friends. Other recommended places for nightlife include Gran Via 75 for live performances, Camelot in an old convent, and Birdland for jazz and indie music.
Excellent service! Laura made my night. Truly recommend this bar, please visit and have a blast like my group did.

We’d call it a pub, it serves beer and other alcohol what more does one need? The waitress very kindly rang a local restaurant and made a reservation for us. The toilets were a bit grim though.

(Translated by Google) I am very unhappy with my experience. Not only did I arrive and I was waiting 15 minutes for a bar manager to come out, since I was unattended, but on top of that the girl was rude and unpleasant, ignoring her obligation to serve me completely. The place is nice, however it has a very poor atmosphere.0 (Original) Estoy muy descontenta con mi experiencia.
Victoria — Google review
(Translated by Google) I like the place, the music is great, but the service is horrible. It's unheard of to ask for a cloth to wipe the table after a badly served beer, only to have to clean it up. At least the waitress has the intention of cleaning it up. We had to wait over 10 minutes to order three beers, even though the bar was empty.
Fuyi M — Google review
(Translated by Google) Very unpleasant service, considering that the bar was empty. The waitress explained the drinks with reluctance, responded with “well, I should have ordered it all together” when we ordered another drink and was upset because we paid with a card, giving us the wet ticket. They took away our jug without having finished it, so the supposed promotion of refilling it has no reliability. Such a borderline attitude makes no sense if we were the only ones. Very bad experience.

(Translated by Google) Terrible service. A waitress with bangs who has no desire to live, work, or exist. She transmits bad vibes without looking you in the eye, speaks disrespectfully, and seems annoyed when you order from her. She seems like a civil servant with 30 years of service. It was truly a place we frequented, something we will never do again. Neither I nor my 10 friends, none of whom were spared a rude response, a bad face, or a rudeness from this person. Bar
La Chupitería in Salamanca, affectionately known as Chupi by locals, is a popular shot bar where you can find a wide variety of shots for as little as 1 euro. It's a favorite among both students and locals, making it the perfect spot to kick off your night out. The bar's bluish lights create an inviting atmosphere, and their signature shot, El Chupito, topped with whipped cream, is a must-try.
1€ shots with lots to choose from. Great at any time, but if you come after 1 am it can become so crowded that getting to the bar is hard. Be sure to try the chupitos de lima!

(Translated by Google) The place and the atmosphere are good, but the waitresses were unpleasant, rude, slow and had little desire to work. Despite having been waiting at the bar for 10 minutes, when we ordered drinks at the bar, the blonde waitress decided to ignore us and serve some guys who had just arrived. After that fact, we decided to ask the other waitress there and even after the humiliation of her companion, we had to put up with bad faces and moral lessons. Of course we asked for the claim form, to which we received the response that they did not have them. If these ladies don't like their jobs, let them resign and make room for other people who want to work more and who surely need the money more.

(Translated by Google) The service was terrible. There were very few waiters, they took a long time to serve, and to make matters worse, they were very rude. They didn't want to give us a glass because we didn't have a glass, we had to explain to them that we had just entered. Even so, they gave it to us reluctantly and we had to wait a long time. It's true that the drinks are cheap but between the time it takes to serve them and the music, I don't recommend it at all. The Irish Theatre in Salamanca is a lively pub designed like an old-fashioned theatre, complete with stalls and theatre-style seating. It offers a warm and lively atmosphere with an international crowd enjoying live music, comedy shows, and other events ranging from rock to hip hop. During the day it's quiet but at night it transforms into a nightclub with live shows and Erasmus parties.
We stopped for a quick drink on the way back to our hotel, and we really enjoyed the ambience and range of drink options. I had a tea and my husband and friend loved their drinks. While we were there after 11 pm, the place no longer offered taps, only the meal menu. Unaware of the type of performances at this location but would love to see one. The service is good and the place is interesting. Recommended.

I was really excited to sing a few Spanish songs with friends, but apparently that’s not allowed here. They completely skipped over every Spanish song we queued up, while English songs kept getting played non-stop. It’s clear they’re only interested in keeping a certain crowd happy, and that crowd doesn’t include anyone wanting to sing in a different language. Super uncomfortable experience — we didn’t feel welcomed or respected

Loved this placd so much I came back the next night. The ONLY minor thing is the fries were undercooked on night 2 but it was more their peak time, so a little busier. But let it be noted most people would be happy to wait an extra 5 minutes for crispy fries. Otherwise awesome staff, decor and fun music
Arnold J — Google review
I’ve been to this karaoke place several times, and every time I try to sing a song in Spanish, they completely ignore my request. Meanwhile, English songs get played instantly, especially if you’re singing something mainstream. It feels like they cater only to English-speaking customers and dismiss anyone who wants to sing in another language — especially Spanish. This isn’t just about music preferences. It’s about inclusion and respect. If you advertise that it’s open karaoke, everyone’s voice should matter — not just the ones singing in English. Super disappointed and won’t be coming back.

EXTREMELY unfriendly service – the waiter made no efforts to try and accommodate for our group not speaking Spanish, and rudely told us they didn't serve cocktails because they had too many costumers. Only one of the bathrooms was in service, which created an unnecessarily long line. The bathroom itself was way too hot and smelly.

Beer hall
El Puerto de Chus is a versatile spot that offers a great experience for visitors. In the summer, you can enjoy buckets of beer with friends while sitting outside, and in the winter, you can head inside to appreciate the small town-themed bar. The atmosphere is excellent, prices are very reasonable, and customers receive great treatment. The staff, particularly a young waiter with long hair at the back, is fast, friendly, and attentive to all needs.

Rude, sexist waiter (kept making rude and obnoxious comments about the way ladies were dressed) who kicked us out because one person was wearing shorts that he deemed “sports”. Becuase “no sports clothes allowed”. He was wearing the same shorts as we were and a sports T-shirt. Petty much?

Outside terrace in the sun beside the bus stops. The main problem here is that the toilets are absolutely disgraceful. Graffiti all around and doors that don’t lock. No toilet paper. No soap. No driers that work. No paper towels. If you go back up the stairs to the bar they will give you toilet paper on request! 🙄

University
Educational sites
The University of Salamanca, established in the 13th century, boasts an intricate carved entrance and a 16th-century classroom. The institution has a rich history, with students initially studying at the Cathedral of Salamanca due to lack of physical space. Over time, the university's construction was completed in the 15th century. Despite its historical significance, recent controversies have emerged involving retracted scientific papers authored by Juan Manuel Corchado, the university's rector.
Founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX of León, the university is the oldest university in Spain and one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Europe. Since the Middle Ages, it has been a center of knowledge and intellectual development, gaining particular renown in the fields of theology, law, philosophy, and literature. In 1543, it became the first European university to officially discuss Copernicus' heliocentric theory. Additionally, in 1492, Antonio de Nebrija published the first Spanish grammar book at this university. The university's central building, Escuelas Mayores, has served as the institution's main academic and administrative center since the 15th century and is currently used as the main building. In contrast, Escuelas Menores was historically dedicated to elementary education and preparatory courses, featuring a smaller-scale structure. One of the university's most iconic features is the facade of Escuelas Mayores (La Fachada), which was decorated in the 16th century in the Plateresque (Plateresco) style. This artistic style blends Renaissance and Gothic elements, characterized by intricate carvings and elaborate ornamentation. Upon closer inspection of the facade, visitors can spot a small frog (La Rana) perched on a skull among the numerous sculpted figures and decorative motifs. According to legend, students who find the frog on their first attempt are destined for academic success. This tradition continues to this day, attracting both students and tourists who try to locate the famous lucky frog on the university's facade.

Salamanca University is a treasure trove of history and academia. The ancient lecture halls and ornate architecture transport you to another era. Walking through its historic corridors, I couldn't help but feel a sense of scholarly inspiration. The charming courtyards and vibrant student life added a delightful modern twist to this living piece of history. There is a 5 euro entrance fee gor student (don’t remember for the rest) but I have to say didn’t expect this nonsense payment! Try to find the frog in the facade otherwise you wont succeed in your exams 🤭
Kiana S — Google review
This is one of the oldest universities in Europe, and the sandstone facade is insanely detailed. Everyone tries to find the tiny frog hidden in the carvings—it’s a bit of a local legend. If you’re into history or architecture, definitely pop inside too—it’s full of charm and stories.
Dhruv S — Google review
Students still rub the carved frog on the facade for exam luck, polishing its patina daily. The lecture halls' wooden desks bear ink stains from 16th-century scholars. The library's chains once secured priceless manuscripts. A beautiful historic place.

It's beautiful and very old, yes, but it's not exactly what I think of when I hear tourist attraction. It was a very brief sight to see, at it's exactly what you'd expect a university to be...just old. Not saying it was bad, it's just not something I'd recommended to a friend to spend their time on.

Mesón Cervantes is a renowned establishment in Salamanca, located in the historic Plaza Mayor. Since its opening in 1961, it has been a classic spot for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant offers three distinct areas: the traditional dining area, a lively bar section, and a spacious terrace overlooking the picturesque Plaza Mayor. Here, guests can savor authentic Salamancan cuisine and enjoy an inviting atmosphere while indulging in tapas and pinchos.
The menu del día was so worth it, one of the best I’ve had in Spain. 1st plate was Paella mixta with chicken and shrimps, hard boiled egg and it was flavourful. The serving was very generous. The second plate was cochifrito, or cochinillo fried/ how can anything be better than this? Thin crispy skin, meat so tender and full of flavour. The most delicious cochinillo I’ve had, the flavour permeated throughout the meat. It went with fried potatoes, and a simple salad that went perfectly with the meat. Dessert was a choice of natilla, fruits, lemon mousse and a flat apple tart. Wine and bread were included in the very reasonable price of 19.50 euro.

Nobody likes to write all but stellar reviews but sometimes it is necessary. This experience started well and ended not so. We get there early, get a table and choose the ‘menu’. The ham and melon was delicious. Second was the ‘chuletta’ also good. Then, a large group arrived. Another waiter asked us to move so he could assemble a large table. We did and he said he was going to send us a treat. The treat was more water and coffee (we were moving for free anyway!). Then, we waited… our server was nowhere in sight (learned later he was in charge of changing the beer barrels). After a while he remembered us and came asking of our choice for ‘postre’. My wife’s came totally wrong. After so much time there we asked for the bill. They charged for that water and coffee and for the wrong dessert…

Reasonably good food in a friendly atmosphere that would be great to share with friends. Staff were easy to deal with despite my limited Spanish and fast to respond. The food has some good flavors but sits for a while in the window waiting for you to choose it so it loses a bit from ordering fresh cooked at a table. Process are cheap. The bathrooms were clean.

We loved this restaurant. The food was excellent! We had the calamari, the goat cheese, iberico ham, and the grilled vegetables plate. All was absolutely delicious but the grilled vegetables was super tasty. Their wine was exceptional as well. Customer service was good and the restaurant with their antiques decors felt like they have been around since the Conquistador days. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

I am baffled by all the positive reviews for this place. I suspect that locals eating the daily menu get something much better - and good for them. We sat in the square in the evening and ordered several vegetarian dishes such as patatas bravas, salad, croquetas, padron peppers. All of them were the lowest quality I have ever had in Spain. We had sangria, which was clearly premixed from a bottle. The service was fine and the location stunning, but that’s unfortunately the worst meal we have had in Spain/Portugal in a 2 week trip.

Salamanca Cathedral is a grand Gothic and baroque edifice adorned with intricate carvings, including an unexpected astronaut added in the 1990s. The Old Cathedral and the New Cathedral stand side by side, making it initially challenging to distinguish between them. Visiting both cathedrals may be more appealing for religious purposes, while those seeking picturesque views and artwork can enjoy stunning interior vistas from the Ieronimus tower.
Very nice cathedral (and a great option for mid/late in day when temps rise to high 30 Celsius). The audio guide is essential but goes a little overboard sometimes giving names of nobility, artists, clergy, you name it. The old cathedral attached is also very interesting, it has even older relics.
Jose L — Google review
A beautiful cathedral. On if two! It is the ‘new’ one but still of an age and richly decorated. Even though it was a Sunday it was closed as it was between masses. The outside it still worthy of visiting with its elaborate carving. Several of the statues have had their heads removed which happened during the war with the French. A stunning part of a stunning town. Don’t forget to look for the astronaut which has been carved into some of the renovations which are in a lighter material.
G M — Google review
The entry fee is 10 € without discount but well worth the price to maintain this incredible cathedral. The high altar and choir are amazing as well as the grandeur of the entire church(es). Lovely to be able to see the difference between the new and old so easily. The use of the audio guide (incl. with ticket), a guidebook or a real guide is helpful to understand the architecture, history and artwork of the cathedral. For a different view of the cathedral, do the Ieronimus Tower Tour. Entrance to the tower is on the other side of the cathedral.

It's one of 2 cathedrals in Salamanca and is the seat of the diocese of Salamanca. Built between 1533 and 1733 with mix of Gothic and Baroque styles - one of the largest Cathedrals in Spain with one of the tallest bell tower. We visited in the night and stayed on to the night when they had an Easter procession in the streets. Popular place that is not free entry. Easy walking to get there, but many people visit it so you have to be patient.

RESTAURANTE LA HOJA 21 is an upscale restaurant located just off the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca. The elegant environment features a glass facade, high ceilings, and minimalist art, offering a welcome change from typical Castilian mesones. The menu offers traditional dishes with a modern twist, such as iberico pork ravioli and langoustine-stuffed trotters for dinner. They also offer a lunch prix fixe menu on weekdays.
Nicely decorated. Croquetas were awesome. The other 2 main plates were ok nothing spectacular. Service was good, but mostly focused on the locals.

Extremely good food and excellent service. The second plate lacked a bit of things to accompany the dish - it focused on the meat and fish more. I believe a gourmet dish shouldn't mean less items in a plate. The only thing missing in this restaurant is napkin cloths, it would elevate the restaurant to its proper level. For the level of the restaurant, 22€ per person for lunch is an excellent price for the quality of food your getting.
Matilde R — Google review
We experienced one of our worst meals in Spain. For an expensive 5 star restaurant, both the food and service were very poor. Having relied on the menu English translation "T-bone steak", under the Spanish title chuleta de ternera, we received white meat probably veal, but at least half was not able to eat due to extensive fat. The photo shows some of the fat that had to be cut off together with a lot of sinew leaving only half of the meat to eat. It was also under cooked even though we sent it back once. Proper translation showed the meat was veal which is surprising given veal is normally lean, not fatty. Clearly it was a very poor quality meat and certainly not T-bone steak red meat. Having complained to the waiter twice, he had no interest at all. We asked to speak to the manager who was very aggressive, rude and threatened to call the police even though we showed him the photo. We therefore reluctantly paid the full bill and left. A very disappointing evening. We visit Spain regularly and this was the worst experience.

One of the worst experiences in years. Unprofessional, disrespectful and neglectful. I was in a big gala dinner and they offered rice (starter) and then somebody showed me a bowl with plain noodles saying world you eat this, it looked horrible. Then they kept serving everyone completely ignoring me. No alternatives were offered, they were looking at me staying and everyone is eating, serving a dish after the other. It was a surreal experience. Only in nightmares you can find such low level of unprofessional behavior. I had to leave to find a place to eat. My advise, is, avoid at all costs.

We had a great experience here for a special Thursday date night. The menu is offered in the evenings during the week, so we ordered from that. The selections change weekly. All of the food we very good. The wine selection has many high quality bottles but we just wanted a glass of wine each, not a bottle, so our choices were limited. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful in describing the menu choices. The food came quickly. I thought the presentation was fine and the portions were plenty for me.
Caitlin F — Google review
Extremely surprised by a 4+ rating.. Service is poor and the food was not good either. Grilled Aubergine with anchovies appears to have been grilled some months ago and thawed out, clearly lacking the colour of Aubergine or its taste. Stewed Cod with creamy potato had the consistency of slime unfortunately. I would venture to say a packet sauce was used. Invisible cremy potatoes was a first for me. Duck breast with quamquat was just that and absolutely nothing else, a raw bloody duck breast as per picture. All foods came cold except for the chips my partner ordered because for just under €100, we were both still hungry. At least the chips was hot straight from the freezer to the deep fryer. Whatever it was that singled us out for a terrible dining experience, it would be interesting to know. When i asvised the waiter of the poorquality of food, he laughted as simply walked on. Perhaps, the 4+ rating is due to the Establishment's pursuit to have Google remove negative reviews.

Casa de las Conchas, also known as the House of Shells, is a 16th-century Gothic palace in Salamanca. Its facade is adorned with over 300 intricately carved seashells, symbolizing the original owner's affiliation with the Order of Santiago de Compostela. This historic building has served various purposes throughout its existence, including as a dwelling, university edifice, and even a correctional facility.
Lovely building with nice architecture and history. Going inside to the courtyard is good to be able to see the views and the structure. An absolutely brilliant building. The external facade is covered in scallop shells. It is not so much due to the pilgrimages ( though they do go through the town) but more that the family were followers of St James. The courtyard is beautiful with a gorgeous balcony with two types of stone grillwork and multi form arches. Just beautiful
G M — Google review
The building is an architectural blend of Gothic, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles, famous for its exterior adorned with over 300 scallop shells. It was constructed between 1493 and 1517 as a residence for Don Rodrigo Arias Maldonado, a court official of the Catholic Monarchs and a knight of the Order of Santiago. The scallop shell is the emblem of the Order of Santiago. Some people believed that treasures were hidden beneath the shells, and there were even attempts to remove them in the past. The building is also notable for its intricately carved windows and doors, which feature delicate Plateresque-style decorations. Inside, there is a beautiful two-story courtyard with striking Mudéjar-style columns and arches. Today, the building serves as a public library, open to both locals and visitors.
Seokjin H — Google review
An unmissable jewel of Salamanca, this historic palace stands a mere five minutes’ stroll from the Plaza Mayor, at the corner of Calle Rúa Antigua and Calle Compañía. Today it serves as a public library, yet visitors may freely enter its enchanting central courtyard. Its most iconic feature is the façade, adorned with over 300 scallop shells — the emblem of the Pimentel family, each one carved in stone. These shells are steeped in legend, symbolising both the Order of Santiago and a nod to the Camino de Santiago. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, La Casa de las Conchas is a masterpiece of Spanish civil Gothic with subtle Renaissance touches. The interior patio offers a serene haven, where the harmonious architecture and ancient well evoke a sense of timeless peace. A visit here is a journey into the very soul of Spain’s artistic and historic splendour.

Gorgeous. If i lived in Salamanca and had this space as my public library, I don't believe I'd ever leave it. It's beautiful. And, it is a public library and those, in every spot on the planet, are things of beauty which should be cherished and protected for eternity. Do not pass this place by when you are in the area.
Jaded G — Google review
This is a landmark building constructed between 1493 and 1517 and making use of Spanish Gothic and Plateresque architectural style. What makes this historic building unique are the 300 shells which decorate the facade and for which the building takes its name. You can enter the view the ground and first floor of the charming interior courtyard. These days, Casa de las Conchas serves as a public library.

This is not a major sight but it is certainly worth including on a trip around the old town of Salamanca. It gets its name from the hundreds of shells carved on its exterior, but even more impressive is the stone carving in its inner courtyard. The railings are lion’s heads are a delight.

Bar
This traditional Salamanca bar is well-known for its affordable and good food, with special attention given to their sinfully delicious steak tartare. Other popular dishes here include fried calamari, potatoes mashed with garlic and green pepper, and crispy chanfaina. Beer is always a great way to finish your meal at La Viga.
A superbly authentic tapas bar in the middle of Salamanca. Notorious for their "pork cheek", you'll be dazzled with local flavours. Service was beyond impeccable - and huge respect to the waiter for his awesome recommendations! Absolutely recommend
Michael C — Google review
Excellent for shared raciones for a group. We got their classic Hetas -- which is exactly like a Filipino Crispy Pata. Got some callos, sweetbreads (cow brain), and stir fried clams to pair up with the fatty pork! For drinks, I recommend a Clara beverage. This lemony beer drink pairs well with all the salty tapas you are getting.

Food was awesome. Unfortunately, I can't remember Spanish titles but everything on the picture is worth to try 😋

Having missed the bus back to the campsite we had an hour to kill & stopped here for a drink & some tapas. Whatever is their speciality tapas (can't remember the name) then have some! I think it's pig cheeks & tastes like pork scratchings caviar! We also had a potato dish which was yummy. Whilst we were there every table (8 outside) had a plate of pork cheeks... TripAdvisor also tells you to go to this bar for the special. The staff were friendly & really helpful...the place was great. Top marks guys...

BEST Tinto de Verano and BEST Jeta are here. I've been to this restaurant many times and every time I have the same problem - I eat too much because their food is addictive.

One of the places you can't miss if you go to Salamanca. Famous for jeta asada, chanfaina, lengua estofada and other dishes. Usually busy, so better to ask locally what would be a good time to go depending on the season.

Stopped for some drinks and a tapa. Staff was helpful with a wine recommendation and was very friendly. The bravas were old and not great but were needed with the pork dish. Hard to catch the waiters attention. But overall a nice place to stop in for a drink and a tapa.

If you're looking for a delicious and affordable bite to eat in the bustling city of Salamanca, then Mesón El Minutejo is a great option. The staff are friendly and teaching Spanish, which is always a bonus. The food is excellent - especially the pimentos and gambas - and the prices are very reasonable.

Really tasty tapas. Their nuggets can be the best i have ever tried. Service is fast.
Gülpembe T — Google review
We tried this place after reading good reviews. We found it not appealing at all. Firstly we were blatantly laughed at for not speaking Spanish when we couldn't understand them too well, which was the first turn off. We placed our order at the bar which we were sat right next too, when our drinks were ready they didn't want to bring them to where we were sitting they wanted us to collect them ourselves even though there was no other customers and we were right next to the serving area ; fine no problem just seemed quite unhelpful since we're ordered 5 drinks. Food arrived was basically fine, toppings on "tapas" were ok. It's basically supermarket bread with something on top, pedrons were good that was about it but we felt if we wanted to pay 30€ for some sandwiches we could have just gone to the supermarket ourselves and made them much better, didn't seem traditional or authentic at all. When we paid the girl at the bar she couldn't even fake a smile, we actually found it sort of funny in the end as we couldn't quite believe how they could be so rude. Would skip it if you're not Spanish as they don't seem to care for non Spanish speakers. Plenty of other choices on the same street, choose one of those instead

"The Holy Cross" is a popular pub with a diverse selection of beers and delicious food. The drink prices are relatively high compared to other places in Spain, but the quality of the drinks and food makes up for it. The pub offers various entertainment options such as pool, table football, and darts. It can get crowded on weekends, but during the week there are events like trivia contests. The staff is friendly and accommodating, making it easy for foreigners to order despite some waiting time for food.
Great local food with great class.

This place has nothing to do with an irish pub except for its façade. Unless you control Spanish fairly good, you will have a hard time to make yourself understood. Needless to say its "adequate level of English to serve customers"... Since the establishment counts with a significant amount of foreign costumers, Salamanca lays many light years away from your development over diverse fields, some of them as basic as (...) Any of those who reads this and is encouraged to support local busineses the way I do everyday, feel free to check my profile and I will gladly shed some light about the best places where truly professionals are worth to be known. 🍀

They carefully and creatively present their cocktails, which are described as absolutely delicious. Our first night in Salamanca for Christmas we went here to try to cocktails. Fantastic evening. We enjoyed classic fog, espresso martini and a gentlemanhatten. The cocktails are yummy and served theatrically, the ambiance is relaxed and busy, we made new friends and enjoyed the whole experience. The staff are friendly and professional and speak many languages. Thank you for a wonderful evening 😊

We only had one evening in Salamanca and feel very lucky to have chosen this bar. Great mix of music to appeal to all. I was there with my daughter. We had just arrived from London where we had a few days in a 5 star hotel and the cocktails were no where near the quality of Niebla. No comparison. The cocktails here are superb in taste and presentation. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We are planning our next visit! Go. You won't be disappointed and it worked well for me with a disability.

Quite simply one of the best experiences I've ever had in a cocktail bar - a real treasure! I was blown away from the moment I walked in until I left. I highly recommend going here if you like a fantastic drink and amazing service while in the beautiful city that is Salamanca. I sat at the bar and got to watch the bartenders work their magic, it was a marvel to see. They worked phenomenally well together as a team, constantly communicating orders or additional things that were needed - they were a well-oiled machine and didn't miss a step. My bartender, Giorgia, didn't stop making drinks all night. It was one after the other but she did it all so seamlessly, knew every step of every cocktail, and didn't rush at all - it was amazing to see. She and the other bartenders also had time to converse with me and answer questions. Each drink she made was sublime and she even recommended one for me to try that she enjoyed making: 10/10 experience. Grazie mille, Giorgia! I frequently go to cocktail bars and I haven't seen this level of teamwork, communication, consistency, and excellent execution at many places so this was a real standout for me. It shows in the final product, since all the drinks I had were fantastic. The place itself is very cool looking as well and they even have outdoor seating. Add in good music all night, and you have the perfect atmosphere. Muchísimas gracias, Giorgia, Alan, Jorge, Fer, Rodo y compañía!!! Volveré!

One star because of the food. The food is excellent, however, the waiters are the most unfriendly people I’ve ever met. Fantastic food. Really, really good tapas that reminded me of the great pinxos up in the Basque. Excellent produce, beautifully cooked. Great flavours and they stray away from traditional into other flavours. Our waitress wasn’t going to give us any love but everything arrived quickly and efficiently. Best to order a dish or two at a time to see how much you need. Everything is good!

If you're a fan of rock and punk music, then Restaurante The New Rivendel is a must-visit destination for your night out. Alongside other vibrant venues like La Iguana, Paniagua, and Chao, it offers an electrifying atmosphere that will keep you entertained. (Translated by Google) It's blatantly disrespectful, they made fun of me, I ordered a pizza and look at what they served me, I hope no one comes to be rude and mistreat me, the manager tells me that they don't make pizza, and on the sign they say 4 types of pizza, he told me that it was for university students that they eat it like that, amazing, I wish not even the university students would go there because they would be very cocky, as if they wouldn't care about the other customers if they weren't university students. It's very sad that the waiter told me that my opinion was worthless because the pizzeria was not enabled on Google, but don't worry, the owner is the same one from Rivendell, and you know you're going to receive news for being so borderline.

In fact, everything was full, there was no place to have a drink and at Rivendell, more than half of the indoor tables were empty. I will not return, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Erasmus Café is a must-visit spot in Salamanca, offering a unique and memorable ambiance. The restaurant's fun decorations and groovy music create a happy atmosphere. Conveniently located just a minute's walk from Plaza Mayor, it offers great tapas, pizzas, and an extensive beer selection from different countries.
The best beer place ever (they have even my favorite cherry beer on tap☺️) phenomenal selection of beer, friendly bartenders, amazing and unique decor, laid back and relaxed vibes. Loved it! A great selection of food but we were only after a light lunch so Caesar Salad and Fritas were great, although I was really tempted with the Moules Frites! Plenty of other more substantial offerings. Service was quick and friendly. A huge selection of beers (draft and bottled), so definitely worth an evening session!

Shared a steak and grilled vegetables here with beer and a glass of wine. The steak was very fatty but the portion of meat with fries was generous. The grilled vegetables were also very generous even when sharing both dishes. Service was also good. Not the best place we've been but if you want tapas choose somewhere else.

We had a fantastic time at Erasmus Café in Salamanca! The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming – a great place to relax with family. We ordered the Caesar salad, Margarita pizza, and delicious gyoza dumplings – everything was fresh and full of flavor. The drinks were also amazing! The mojito and piña colada were refreshing and perfectly balanced. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the service was quick. It’s the perfect spot for a casual evening out with good food, drinks, and a lively vibe. Highly recommended if you're in Salamanca!

Average quality food, slow and unfriendly service, the staff does not even want to serve, the place was basically empty and we waited for the food for a hefty amount of time. They charge you for bread that you did not even order. The prices on the menu are lower than the price you pay at the end, even if the amount is little, it is borderline deceptive and misleading.

SALAMANCA MALQUERIDA HOME BAR is a popular spot to hang out with friends and enjoy well-crafted drinks. The third floor offers a great view of the nearby park, making it an ideal place to relax. We went for a quick dinner with some tapas. At the beginning we were somehow cautious as the place looked more like a place for drinks than for food, but we were pleasantly surprised by the food, it was tasty and reasonabily priced. Service was attentive and fast l. The only downside was the ham toast that was subpar for an area with such an excellent Spanish cured ham.

Overrated place. First it says it’s open, but they just start serving food at 8 pm (for dinner). The wine glass was very short although good and cheap. There is no wine menu. This place is as good as all the other reviews say. The ceviche salmon and guacamole is stellar. The steak tartare has a delicious, spicy twist. Amazing food, all the tapas we had had delicious flavours, well prepared and well presented, with a luxurious touch! We are definitely coming back to try other tapas. And the service is the best, the waiter explained us the menu and was very pleasant to talk with. The restaurant is central but awat from the most crowded areas around the Plaza Mayor. We loved the tartar de salmon con guacamole, pepito de ternera with dark olive paste, the bocata de calamares were perfectly cooked, salmorejo tropical, albondigas de bacalau y gambas, satay de pollo, lagarto ibérico and ssam de garbanzos. The desserts are not listed in the menu, so we were quite surprised at how elaborate they were, we had the yogurt foam with red fruits flavour and the apple tart with icecream and dried mint leaves, both amazing. Thank you!

(Translated by Google) I reiterate the comments regarding the appalling behavior of one of the waiters. Customers should be treated in such a contemptuous manner as this person (a young man who served the restaurant on the afternoon of August 26th) has no right. I firmly believe this behavior is detrimental to the establishment's clientele, and the owner should take action if he wants this business to survive. It's not normal for these incidents to occur in a public establishment in a city with such a strong hospitality tradition.

(Translated by Google) I wish to publicly express my disgust at the arrogant and inconsiderate attitude of the waiter (a young man with less than perfect manners) who works at the Gran Café "El Pino" in Salamanca. I will now explain the facts in detail. We had gathered for a family celebration, and this person displayed hostile behavior toward us from the outset. Upon receiving our order, we politely told him that he had brought an extra glass of wine and that he could please take it away. Far from complying with the request, he responded by raising his voice and contradicting what he had been told, which he simply let go. When we finished dinner, the person who was about to pay made a show of raising his hand to get his attention, and to our surprise, when he came over, out of his mind, like a miura, and "shouting loudly," in a cocky tone, warned us that "he wasn't bothered when he was serving another table!!", as if, instead of being a simple waiter, he were "the owner and lord of the farmhouse." Faced with this lack of respect, a relative present, who has always been a very polite person, offered to speak to him in a friendly manner, criticizing his behavior. What she achieved was that this "rude brat" insulted her by calling her "subnormal," when this person has dedicated her entire life to teaching, and this "being" probably doesn't even have a degree in primary school! In conclusion, I find it degrading that people who, due to their age and life experience, are above everything and deserve the utmost respect and consideration can be treated this way. And to work "face to face," the most important thing is to have a minimum of politeness, be empathetic, and assertive with clients. Perhaps this person should reconsider their professional future and focus on another field.

Panka is a restaurant in a magical place, that is, by the corner outside of the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca. The best option obviously is to enjoy your meal at the terrace. The dishes are really good, you feel the freshness of the products, for instance the arepa guara or the cheese empanada. However, the portions are too small, and the staff is not interested enough in your time when waiting for the coffee or the bill...

When I asked, because it seemed exaggerated, they told me that the bill was fine, that the skewers to take away are 2 euros... come on, the aluminum foil costs a lot, because that's where they put the croquettes. without heating, I repeat. I have never been charged so much for the same takeout before. Silly me for not asking for the ticket. If you don't come back, that's it.

(Translated by Google) I'm not one to leave reviews, much less negative ones, because I understand that we can all have a bad day. However, in this case, it's not the first time it's happened, and I've witnessed it, and what happened this morning was already unacceptable due to the way a particular waitress treated customers. I deeply respect the hospitality profession, but this person's attitude was disgraceful: rude and unprofessional. I think those in charge should reflect, because in the end, it's the employees who make a business succeed or, on the contrary, ruin it.

Only stopped for a quick beer. Choice was good, barman friendly, and helpful when it came to speaking English with us. Assuming it's actually quite an old place. Bet it rocks later at night. Showing 6 nations, champions league and F1. Outside seats as well.

This is the best bar i have ever been to. The fantastic atmosphere and the great waiters make this place the best ever. I have never been so happy and well received in another other place in Salamanca like this. I can really say that this is the best bar in Salamanca. I will find the best music, the best drinks and beers, the best music and the best people in there. I hope everyone can go and enjoy the Irish Corner. Im sure that you’ll have fun with your friends or whoever you meet there. I have gone there so many times and i have no doubt that i will return there so many times too. All the people that opened this bar and work there all day deserve the best for bringing us all the happiness.

Pintarolo is a popular spot that tends to get crowded, making it challenging to find seating. Despite its unassuming appearance, this small restaurant offers a wide selection of tapas, including sandwiches, potato-based dishes, and traditional baked goods. While it may not offer full table service, patrons can quickly order sandwiches during lunchtime. Visitors praise the delicious coffee and affordable prices. The spacious and tidy setting provides good service at reasonable rates for a university area.
It’s a proper Spanish bar near the autobús estación with wide variety of pinchos, portions and lunch menus at the best prices and offers you can have for such delicious food. Highly recommend to try the pollo asado con patatas lunch menu, costillas a la barbacoa, lomo, albóndigas de carne etc
Rajat K — Google review
Whenever I am nearby I don't hesitate stopping by! By the time Pintarolo opened, I lived in the area so I was wondering what would it be like. In one word: Fantastic. This small restaurant is made for getting yourself full through a great range of tapas such as sandwiches (French omelet's with jam/cheese sandwich is my favourite), potatoes-based dishes or traditional bakery. Sure you can't expect a full-service option, but when lunch times arrives it's possible to order any Sandwich served right away. Finally, a charming but extremely busy staff try their best so that many people from students, professional or neighborhs go for their daily breakfast!

(Translated by Google) We ate on 08/21/23. We arrived at 2:00 p.m. and started eating at 3:00 p.m. They apologized to us for the delay several times. We weren't in a hurry either but if you are it's a shame. The food is generally very good and unbeatable price. I was surprised by the taste of the fries as they were very delicious. Very abundant dishes. In the cross (secret) they gave me salad and I think it didn't come on the menu, which I really appreciate. What I think needs improvement is the fried eggs issue. I like that it can be wet and the ones they gave me were dry. And another thing is their presentation. They put mine with the yolks facing down (I don't know if it's because they were very done or because they fell like that) and I think it's the same effort to put them face up). It's just a presentation issue. 4 CNP patrols arrived to have a drink, which is a sign that they are treated well. I have saved it as a place to repeat.

(Translated by Google) We went for tapas, looked at the menu with the QR code, and ordered several toasts, wings, drinks, etc. The toasts were expensive for what they were. The bill came to us and... it was outrageous. They had charged us for things we hadn't eaten, extra toasts, etc. They charged us an outrageous price for the child's hot chocolate, and a small piece of tuna empanada... it was ridiculously expensive. We told the waiter, and honestly, he was friendly and recalculated the price without any problem. The problem is that they charge you 20 cents more per drink when you're on the terrace, but they don't specify this anywhere. We thought it was outrageous for what we ate, and if we weren't careful, they'd charge us 20 euros more.
