Aquarium
Zoos & Aquariums
Nestled in the stunning coastal town of Ubatuba, the Ubatuba Aquarium is a delightful blend of indoor and outdoor experiences that showcases an impressive array of local marine life. Established by a passionate group of oceanographers in 1994, this aquarium features around 70 species across its various enclosures, including Brazil's largest saltwater tank. Visitors can marvel at fascinating creatures like crabs, octopuses, sharks, and even Magellanic penguins from Patagonia.
Amazing place. Worth every penny from the ticket. Well guided, the staff is very gentle. Lots of information about sea life.
Luiz F — Google review
Was surprised at the array of animals there , staff were lovely and when raining spent a couple of hours sheltering inside !
George W — Google review
I liked it, kind of fun for children. It isn't as big as other ones around the world, but fits into this environment. The most fun was the playground behind it for my kids.
Daniel G — Google review
Small but very nice and well organized, employees were respectful and knowledgeable. The sharks and penguins were the highlight of the visit but the experience was really good overall, really worth the time.
Julio R — Google review
This aquarium is an excellent opportunity to make a immersion into the beauty and miseries of the sea, this place is prepared for a huge crowd of adults and kids enjoying multiple attractions, it is recomended to buy tickets online in advance to have a quick access to the place, also check the estimated time for some scheduled activities, like feeding the penguins, so you can have the best experience possible here, very recommended
Renner P — Google review
It was smaller than I've been to other places, but close and intimate. Probably crowded I peak season, but July it was perfect. Some signs had English but not all.
Mac S — Google review
Very nice manageable size for children. We saw species we'd never seen before and there is a beautiful shell collection. The tide exhibit was fun. The petting pool was a new experience too. There's a nicely decorated cafe (we got a free coffee with a family ticket) overlooking a play area outside on the promenade. The recycling exhibit was overly sombre at the end of the tour.
Rachel C — Google review
The visit is very pleasant and the path is interesting with posters and exhibitions. The place is not very big but there are spectacular types of marine animals. I suggest to avoid peak time as it could be stressing waiting in the queue. Near the exit, you can touch a number of live examples like the star fish, pepino do mar, etc. There is a small restaurant inside, which can also serve people not in the aquarium from the side overlooking the beach.

Praia do Lázaro, located approximately 15.5 kilometers from Ubatuba's city center, is a fantastic choice for a peaceful family day at the beach. With its 1.5-kilometer-long sandy shore, it caters to all kinds of beachgoers. The left side of the beach is livelier with beachside kiosks and music, especially during the summer months.
An amazing place, clean water and safe. The only issue are some impolite and pain the neck Brazilians that use cheap usb speakers to play loud and awful songs on the beach.
Alaister T — Google review
Absolutely disgusting. Disappointing actually. Arriving at the beach, the sewer smell going into the water was disgusting. The beach was packed and people and dogs swimming, even that the authorities informed it was not safe. We just had to go through this beach to arrive in another of the safe beaches.

Beach
Nature & Parks
Praia do Cedro, also known as Cedrinho, is a remote beach in Ubatuba that can be accessed by boat or a steep downhill trail. The beach is characterized by its dark green sea and calm, crystal-clear waters, making it ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Surrounded by lush vegetation and rock formations, the beach has a rustic charm and remains relatively uncrowded due to its challenging access.
Our favorite beach in Ubatuba. It is a smaller quiet beach in central Ubatuba. The shrimp pastel are some of my favorite and the drinks are very good. The kiosk workers are friendly and attentive. The ocean current can be on the stronger side here but it is definitely worth swimming in to cool down on hot days
Jason L — Google review
DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS WALKING DIRECTIONS. Take the left further down the main road, after the directions Google gives to reach the beach. See pic.
Mike — Google review
My husband and I loved this place. It is not very accessible, which, in our opinion, made this place a paradise. Very quiet, calm, clean beach and clean water, no beggers while we were there. In June, there were no salespeople there or washrooms, but we were prepared with food and made a short stay. We were there in June 2023.
Thay S — Google review
My family and I had to make a short trail to get to this beach, I can’t lie it’s so beautiful definitely I will come back anytime soon.
Matheus S — Google review
Good place, but the visit was not well organized and planned by #MSC CRUISES partners.
Joao S — Google review
A little further away from downtown, a sinuous road with a 200m descent on foot to the beach. It is very small, coarse sand beach, crowded for it's size. Nice to visit but too much effort.
Antonio B — Google review
Awesome secluded beach, the road to the beach is pretty horrible lots of bumps, then a long down hill path to the beach. All is worth it when you see the beauty..

Praia do Prumirim is a starting point for the Prumirim Island tour, but it's not just a stopover for boats. The beach boasts beautiful but not always swim-friendly waters due to waves and currents. It's not recommended for children, but there are kiosks serving lunch at slightly higher prices than other nearby beaches.

Praia do Tenório is a well-equipped beach in the northern coast of Sao Paulo, attracting tourists year-round with its excellent infrastructure and natural beauty. Despite its small size, it's popular among families seeking a great spot for swimming and offering everything visitors need. Nestled in a paradise bay just south of Praia Vermelha, this beach boasts stunning coast mountains, powdery sands, and gentle waves perfect for swimming due to protection from the western headland.
This place is amazing and you must include in your list if you are visiting Ubatuba. Caiçara Bar on the beach is very nice too. Prices are okay and the service as well. Friendly staffs and good portions. I highly recommend Célio Açaí, he is an independent seller walking around and sometimes staying nearby Caiçara bar. He is lovely, very polite and really cares about his potential customers. I highly recommend you to go early as it is has small car parking and tend to be busy. The cost for the parking is 20 reais(2,80€). I hope you visit this place, let me know how was your experience if you do.
Gabriel P — Google review
Very good beach, with calm waves, but depending on the time it can get very crowded, but with an incredible view
Luis S — Google review
If you like crazy busy beaches, you will love this one. Lots to do. Many decent baracas, many restaurants. Small waves. Good for families with young kids. If you don't Luke busy beaches, stay away! Parking is an absolute nightmare. It took us an hour to drive 20km because the road was so busy
Jurie P — Google review
Beautiful beach and clean ocean. Friendly vendors selling an assortment of beachwear .
Wendy L — Google review
It gets very overcrowded, too many kiosk tables everywhere. Vermelha next door is better.
Petr V — Google review
Beach relatively long and wide, totally exposed to waves. Not a place to swim but a great place to play with the waves. I didn't see any surfer. The water in the end of September is warm and many people are in the water. There's a short walk from the car parking among beautiful houses and the one day ticket is 10 reais.

Located just 19 kilometers from the city center, Waterfall Prumirim is a series of cascades surrounded by lush rainforest. Accessible via a short trail from Rio-Santos road, this powerful cascade flows over flat rocks and is popular for swimming and climbing. Visitors can unwind amidst the pure and strong nature or take a refreshing swim in the cold waters. While there are no lifeguards or security measures, it's a beautiful spot to enjoy nature's beauty.
It's perfect place for Swimming, it's really magical. Only bad think is the cost of parking next to the road. It is 25 R$. Not sure if it's because I'm turist. Next time I will try to find different place to park.

Hiking Trails
The Trail of 7 Beaches, also known as the Sete Praias Trail, is a popular and serene hiking route in Ubatuba. This 10 km trail takes a full day to complete and offers access to mostly empty beaches throughout the year. During peak seasons, some beaches may be more frequented by boat trips. It's recommended to be in good physical condition and carry enough water and food for the journey.
Although the weather was a little gloomy, temperature was great for the hike. These photos are of the portion between Praia Bonete and Lagoinha. Amazing scenery and views. Highly recommend!
Jacobus K — Google review
I did it halfway, it was pretty nice. It looks like someone has recently cut a lot of the foliage so it wasn't a typical overgrown Brazilian trail...
Nathan J — Google review
It was a little rough but worthy!
Marianne D — Google review
This 7 beaches trail hike was most definitely the highlight of my trip to Brazil. I went to Rio, Ilha Grande, Sao Paolo, Paraty but Ubatuba (where the trail is) was a great addition to my itinerary and most definitely a beautiful surprise. I strongly suggest to have a guide as I am personally not a fan of "organized activities" when I travel but I did not regret having a guide for this one. He was so knowledgable and thought me a lot about the jungle and Brazil. As for the trail/hike itself, make sure to have some good shoes on, sunscreen and bug spray. I consider it a medium hike as it is not super hard but I most definitely was challenged a few times. Be careful as there are some snakes and iguanas (iguanas are fine but snakes, hell no haha). Be safe and enjoy
Eric M — Google review
Such a special experience. The beaches are stunning and beautiful. The trek fits all age groups and all fitness levels. But bear in mind that it can be a little hard in some point.
Kareem M — Google review
Do it! It's not long, a couple of hours walking. But you're probably gonna stop on the way to admire the beaches and some wildlife, or like me, will keep trying to catch all those pesky crabs!
Alexandru C — Google review
Last year I visited some of these beaches and it was astonishing in a serene and quiet environment. Only disturbed by sea and bird sounds!

O Limoeiro is a unique dining spot in Ubatuba that offers a blend of local flavors, live music, and sustainability. The restaurant's menu features a variety of local specialties, including the signature dish tartar caicara, which combines banana, peach palm fruit, and shrimp cooked in herbal butter. The ambiance is enhanced by live music performances that create a celebratory atmosphere after dark. Guests can enjoy personalized bottled drinks and locally brewed beers while savoring famous snacks.
Incredible culinary and cultural experience. For my gf’s bday I decided to give this place a shot (following the advice of a local barber, Daniel). Everything was simply perfect: the ambiance (with live music-brazilian🇧🇷), the service (shout out to Marcelo💥), the location, and the food. Quality and fresh. We had 2 rounds of caipirinha-like drinks with fresh ingredients and local Cachaça: delicious. For starters we ordered Ceviche, the best I have ever had. Then as a main, we shared lemon grilled fish with Banana Farofa, perfectly cooked and flavorful. And ended up with a Banana and Vanilla Ice Cream. 5star deluxe✨

Lovely place in the fishermans harbour. Owner is very nice and has succeded in creating a warm atmosphere just of the beaten track in Ubatuba. 200m away from the main promenade with all the tourist traps. Ubatuba has mainly native tourists anyway. O Limoeiro has great local food in friendly, alternative, local atmosphere. Do visit.

Fundação Projeto Tamar - Ubatuba is the first base of Project Tamar, an organization dedicated to preserving Brazil's sea turtles. Visitors can take educational tours and talks around large tanks housing protected tortoises and sea turtles. The facility offers up-close encounters with different turtle species such as comb, loggerhead, green, and olive. It's a great place for kids to have fun feeding the turtles while learning about conservation efforts.
Wonderful place with people commited to help turtles - we got to see many big ones, very impressive
Katarzyna K — Google review
If you want to know how much Tamar project cares about GIANT TURTLES, then go to REGENCIA. We went there and what you can see there is beyond horrible. It’s simply cruel! Two GIANT turtles alone and abandoned in super small pools with dirty water with NO POSSIBILITY TO EXIT. If you check the google reviews it’s obviously like this since more then 9 MONTHS. It’s a DISGRACE! SHAME ON YOU!
Agnieszka — Google review
As an American, who has come to Ubatuba all my life, this place secures a special place in my heart. It has an amazing mission and allows for education into something that the US severely lacks especially when it comes to environmentalism and sustainability of the natural world.
Mateus M — Google review
One of our favorite places to spend a couple of hours seeing a large variety of turtles. The project is on a mission to protect turtles, educate on keeping our oceans clean, and they have been working on this mission for over 35 years. We highly recommend visiting if you are in the Ubatuba area.
Jason L — Google review
It’s a very small place but the turtles are an amazing sight. Great conservation work so even though admission is not cheap, the money is going to a good cause.
Duncan R — Google review
The place is small but it's very nice; good for a quick visit. There are guided tours every few minutes, but you can just wander around. You can see the turtles up close and there's an underpass where you can see them underwater. There's also a coffee shop, which I didn't try but seemed nice.
Fuad S — Google review
I like the purpose of the project and the foundation. However it was extremely difficult to accept the limited size of the basins for the turtles. I was expecting a much larger facility for a turtle recovery.

Due to overcast weather conditions, the decision was made to forgo a trip to the beach. Instead, an exciting opportunity arose to visit Museu da Vida Marinha, where various exhibits were showcased at the marina. This experience offered a delightful and captivating adventure as numerous displays were encountered, providing a unique glimpse into the marine world.

(Translated by Google) If you enjoy reading and observing at a leisurely pace, a tour of the museum can be quite interesting. With children, I think the visit ends up being quicker, as there are only two large rooms with fossils, bones, and information about marine animals. The other spaces are smaller, but also have their own charm. We went as soon as it opened, so we were able to enjoy everything at our leisure. I saw that there were activities geared towards children, but since we were a couple, we ended up not participating. It's worth checking out—it's a tour that combines learning with a moment of reflection about the environment, and that's never too much.

However, I believe the money would be used for improvement, so I saw it as a donation because it's not worth the price. Ultimately, it's worth raising awareness. Domingas Dias Beach is a serene and relatively secluded spot with calm, crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful beach experience. The area is characterized by its impressive rock formations and lush Atlantic Forest vegetation. Accessible through a condominium or by walking from Praia do Lazaro, this beach offers a tranquil atmosphere without commercial infrastructure. Visitors can also explore the nearby Praia do Portugues and Praia do Felix before spending a relaxing day at Domingas Dias Beach.

It’s a pretty beach, but the waves are rough! Mostly good if you want to explore the rocks surrounding the beach or sit at a table and get food/drinks. Not lots of sand for playing sports, as tables take up a lot of the beach. Can get very busy on the weekend. It does have outdoor shower spots which is 👌👌

Paraty Tours offer a chance to explore the hidden gem of Saco do Mamangua, Brazil's only tropical fjord. Visitors can immerse themselves in nature, paddle kayaks to secluded beaches, hike up Mamangua Sugarloaf for breathtaking views, and experience the mangrove in canoes while enjoying lunch with the local caicaras. A private touring boat provides a pleasant transfer from Mamangua to Paraty, stopping at islands and isolated beaches for a refreshing swim.
We took the boat tour with Paraty Tours on Netuno 2, and overall it was a great experience with stunning views of the mountains and islands. The stops to swim and relax on private beaches were definitely the highlights—peaceful, scenic, and refreshing. The onboard photographers were a nice touch and took amazing photos of us for a small fee, which made for a great souvenir. Food was delicious and drinks were well-made, though you should know you’re not allowed to bring your own snacks or beverages. One downside was the late departure—we were asked to arrive 30 minutes early for an 11:00 AM departure, but the boat didn’t leave until 11:20 because they waited for a late-arriving family. This cut into the overall tour time, which was frustrating for those of us who were on time. Still, the crew was friendly, the vibe was relaxed, and the scenery made up for the wait. Just a heads-up: arrive early, be patient, and bring some extra cash for food, drinks, and photos. Worth it for the experience, especially on a sunny day.

I went on a tour to the islands in Paraty Bay. I speak no Portuguese and the 2 boatmen made no effort to communicate safety issues with me, or anything else. A couple sitting near me spoke English so I kept asking them what I was missing. I read in the reviews here about food, I was offered water. I felt we moved quickly through the 5 stops, one stop should be cut, there was little room to move with all the folks there and not much to do. I heard from the couple about a waterfall at one of the stops, I would have enjoyed another activity besides the two times we snorkeled, and the beaches. Since it was Saturday, maybe it was more crowded than usual, but loud music and screaming kids spoiled the tranquility at some of the stops. The office staff, I worked with Pearl/Rosa, did a good job. I used Paraty Tours for a transfer from GRU airport, and enjoyed the driver Carlos. It was very efficient and I appreciated not having to pay for two people, since it was only me. I would recommend Paraty Tours to re examine their tours to try to offer something unique, instead of all the same beaches and lunch spot everyone visits.

We booked a 12 seater boat for a 5 island 6 hour tour. We were warned if there were not enough people we would be bumped to another tour. We were bumped! Same price 300 Brazil R but only 5 hours instead of 6 and a different destination. We went to the fjords with 3 beach stops and an 'optional' lunch stop. There were 7 of us on the 12 seater boat plus the driver. The driver spoke very little English....he could say hello and tell us how long we had at each stop. There was no welcome chat or safety briefing. The 9am tour left at 9 15am. The driver was explaining what we were seeing in Portuguese .... seaweed farms and starfish. Two other passengers were kind enough to translate for us. The weather wasn't brilliant and the sea was quite cold....so swimming was only for the brave. It is June so we can't blame the boat company for that! At 12 15pm we stopped for the 'optional' lunch for an hour. As we were expecting to be on a different tour we had bought our own food...pizza leftovers from dinner the night before. The stop was in a little village with a dirty beach. Not suitable for swimming. We ate our pizza and waited for the others to have lunch. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes. We then raced back to Paraty. We arrived back at 2pm. We felt we lost a considerable amount of time on this tour as it started late and the 'optional ' lunch overran, and we had nothing to do but sit in a closed beach bar and wait. We are covered in bites. Wouldn't recommend this company for boat tours. You don't get what you are sold and then booked. The punctuality is awful. The last beach isn't suitable for swimming. The driver doesn't speak English.

I had a group of 30 friends arriving from the US, coming to Brazil for the first time to celebrate our wedding. I booked: transfers from GRU x Paraty, Sao Paulo x Paraty, the Netuno boat 6 hours experience with meal on board, a Paraty walking tour (fully in English) and finally, transfers back to the city. Everything was executed with 100% precision, organization and the well-known Brazilian warmth. The staff from the admin office to drivers and the boat were very attentive and friendly. We had a flight delayed by 3 hrs for the GRU transfer, meaning my friends flying in from D.C. wld miss the scheduled bus. At 11:30pm Flavia made herself available to answer my emergency and safely rebooked my friends on a later transfer from GRU to Paraty. The food onbaord the Netuno was executed to utmost precision. Our group had dietary restrictions for gluten and peanut and they were able to accomodate all needs so that our passengers were safe. All of the water stops included paddle boards, snorkeing masks, floats etc. - our group had a amazing time! Everyone praised the experience overall. I highly recommend Paraty Tours if you need safe and reliable transfer to Paraty. This is my second time booking with them and will continue to do so in the feature. Para Flavia e ao time, um muito obrigada de 30+ pessoas deixando Paraty com lindas memorias. Até a próxima!

Office – My interaction at the office was short, but even in that brief moment the staff were warm and welcoming. I had booked my ticket through my hotel, and when I showed up at the office feeling a bit lost, they kindly pointed me in the right direction with a big smile. Tour – I did the Schooner Da Vinci. The boat was large, clean, and well maintained, with very friendly staff. It also offered canoeing, paddleboarding, and snorkeling equipment you could use for free. Since there weren’t many people on board, it felt like we had the big boat all to ourselves. The language barrier was never an issue. I didn’t catch the employee’s name, but she was incredibly attentive and always checked in to make sure I didn’t feel left out, since I don’t speak Portuguese. All of the staff were friendly, relaxed, and made the trip even more enjoyable.

The Circuit Gold Trail offers a unique alternative to the typical Paraty hiking experience, as it does not lead to the beach. This historic trail was originally constructed by slaves and served as a vital connection between Paraty and the gold-rich state of Minas Gerais in Brazil's countryside. As part of a restoration effort, 5km of this ancient highway has been reconstructed for modern exploration.

Omnimare Mergulho is a top choice for diving adventures with its friendly and helpful staff who speak English fluently, making it convenient for international visitors. The rental equipment is well-maintained, and the dive sites offer stunning views. While some algae may affect visibility, divers can still spot various fish species and even sea turtles. Guests also praise the attentive and professional service provided by the staff, both in terms of diving experiences and accommodation at the inn.
Very friendly and helpfull staff. Most spoke english which was good for someone like me who didn't speak portugese. I didn't bring any equipment, but could rent it all there. It was all in good condition. The view as we went out to the dive sites were stunning! There was a lot of algea in the ocean when we dived (unsure if it is normal or not) which reduced visibility a lot. But we still saw many different types of fish and some of my diving partners saw a sea turtle. As someone who has only done 4 dives before I was a bit surprised that they let me and two other (more experienced divers) go out by ourselves without an instructur. I would have preferred that someone who knew the waters could guide us. Apart from that it was a great experience👍

Valeu demais!!!!
