Fundación Ecocentro is a popular nature center that offers a modern and well-made exhibition on the local coast ecosystem. It was built in 2000 and combines art, education, and science to delve into various natural science topics related to the Patagonian Sea. The center provides simple explanations about local fauna, which can be useful before embarking on excursions to Peninsula Valdes or Punta Tombo.
Very educational exhibits and amazing sensory rooms where you feel you are under water with the whales. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Cost may be a bit much for what there is but it is going towards a good organization.
Chad K — Google review
It is an educational place if you would like to know the ocean ecosystems and lives.
Joe L — Google review
An interesting centre, with an interesting way of portraying whales. However, almost all signage is in Spanish. The centre provides a QR code to access English text and even provides internet in the centre. However, in spite of help from the staff, our connections (on 3 phones) kept dropping and we gave up on getting any English information. Sad, given that there was a lot to understand and that there is a simple low-tech solution—providing a paper copy of the information. They could be plastic-covered sheets that would be returned at the end of the visit.

Its my happy place, if you come to Madryn you have to go there, they have a simulation of how it would be the underwater sounds of whales and a very good view of the beach

The most special to me was to see the live animals in the little aquarium they have. The staff that was there to teach us a bit and answer questions about the animals was really good. There was an documentary at 7pm that lasted until 7:40pm - it lacks English subtitles and if you watch it all you might not have time enough to see the museum without hurrying up as the museum closes at 9pm and there are long texts to read and videos to watch. The view from the top and outside are beautiful.

Playa El Doradillo is a stunning beach in the Chubut coast, offering unique natural treasures and breathtaking landscapes. It's a paradise where visitors can connect with nature, observe diverse wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, and seabirds, and witness the spectacle of Southern right whales frolicking just meters from the shore between June and October. The beach also provides opportunities for hiking and biking along the coastline.
Wowowowowowow, this place is unreal. Get there 2 hours before high-tide and stay 2 hours after. I cycled here, and no one else was anywhere in sight. Just many many beautiful right whales. 🐋
Ollie D — Google review
Perfect place for watching whales! There are hundreds of whales right now. Amazing experience. There is also a cave which you can explore when water is low
Anastasia Z — Google review
Wonderful beach inviting for a nice walk.
Christian P — Google review
Despite what everyone says, this is not the beach that the whales come really close to - that's the next beach down the road, Playa Las Canteras. The bluff between the two beaches also has viewing areas that are debatably just as good, since although you're slightly farther away, you have a nice overhead view. To get to the viewpoints and Playa Las Canteras, the road is gravel, but well-maintained (no 4WD required).

Beach
El Doradillo Beach in Puerto Madryn is a lesser-known protected area where visitors have the chance to watch southern right whales from the coast. Depending on weather, season, and tides, these majestic creatures can be spotted approaching just a few meters from the land. It's an exotic and peaceful spot that offers a relaxing experience for nature enthusiasts.
If you want to go whale watching here by bike, and tourist agencies tell you that the road is closed for bikes as well - don't believe them. Go to a bike rental and they will give you all directions, since the road is closed for cars and tours therefore, but with bikes it's accessible. To rent a bike I can recommend "Hi Patagónia Rental Cars & bikes" with great service and helpful tips

At 444, Roca Avenue, in Puerto Madryn, we found the Modern Art Museum, a space of vital importance for the entire region. As the center of culture in town, not only does the museum offer a space where visitors may learn about regional artists, but it also opens up to the community through a series of activities suitable for all audiences. The museum is kept alive by the constantly new shows as well as by the interaction with the community. Therefore, guided tours are available for students, cultural gatherings and various courses related to art.

The Monumento al Indio Tehuelche, established in 1865, stands as a stunning tribute to the harmonious relationship between Welsh immigrants and the indigenous Tehuelche people. Located near Puerto Madryn, this remarkable statue features a native warrior poised with a spear, gazing out over the sea from atop a pile of rocks that represent local excavations.
Good place to spend your evening with your freinds and family and sip mate or coffee. You can also see whales at a distance in a clear day from here. I would recommend this place for a nice walk if you are in Puerto Madryn

Playa Las Canteras is a hidden gem for whale watchers, offering an incredible opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close, often just 20 meters away from the shore. Nestled in the serene landscapes of Patagonia, this wide beach provides a tranquil setting where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views while respecting local wildlife regulations. The best time to visit is between August and October when whales are most active along the coast.
One of the best place to watch whales close by.Thanks to the people of Argentina that they respect the rules here. It is a must visit place for the whale watchers in a quite and seren place. The playa is wide and gives you a nice opportunity to see the magnificent water creature from just 20 meters. Sometimes it is very windy here , as usual in Patagonia but his place worth a visit if you don’t have to much of money to go in a national park or take expensive excursions to see the whales 😊

(Translated by Google) The visit to the museum was one of the most valuable things I took away from this trip. Beyond visiting the local fauna, I thought it was very important to learn a little more about the history of the city and the Welsh settlers, and the museum was almost mandatory. I visited on Monday and met Eduardo, who knows a lot about the landing, the immigrants from the region, and the Welsh language. We also chatted a bit about our experiences traveling through Wales. The museum has an unbeatable location, above Punta Cuevas, which allows for a visit both inside and outside the space, which makes it more immersive, allowing you to understand the conditions in which these settlers lived in their early days before moving to the valley. The museum is very nice, everything is very well explained, and there is a guide to listen to as well. There are also some movies you can request to be shown if you're interested, so I recommend going ahead of time!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful and long beach. It's very well maintained and generally clean. Depending on which section you choose, it's usually covered in seaweed or seaweed, but it's a very nice place to go in the water. Super spacious for crowded days; you have plenty of room to avoid being on top of each other. There's no shade anywhere, so it's advisable to bring an umbrella or a tent to protect yourself from the sun. Along the entire beach, you'll find a wide variety of restaurants and bars along the sidewalk where you can grab a bite to eat. (Original) Hermosa y extensa playa.

(Translated by Google) I loved it. A very clean and quiet place. People stroll around with mate under their arms. We were able to see whales in the distance from this beach on Thursday. And walking further along the beach toward the Indio monument, we saw a flock of southern flamingos. Not to mention the ever-present seagulls. Beautiful. (Original) Me encantó. Hermoso.

Lobo Larsen, a renowned establishment situated in Punta Lomba, offers unparalleled entertainment and adventure. Visitors can embark on an exciting journey by taking a motor boat to the reserve where they will encounter a multitude of sea lions. The highlight of this experience is the opportunity to swim alongside these magnificent creatures in the deep waters. Wolf Larsen Diving is a reputable scuba tour agency that provides top-notch services for snorkeling with sea lions and exploring underwater wrecks.
Diving with the sea lions was incredible! Being face to face with them was such a unique experience. The team was amazing too! They ensured everyone felt safe and comfortable for the whole process. Many of the staff are multi-lingual as well so they briefed us in our preferred languages. Absolutely a don’t miss activity!
NomadicB — Google review
We may have been unlucky, after this trip there was only stress and disappointment, but we were unable to play with the sea lions, perhaps because we were offered to postpone the visit to the daytime, the wetsuits were old, no one was worried when cold water constantly got behind their neck and back, it was terribly uncomfortable, apparently the hat was not put on correctly, sorry, I don’t know how to use it and the instructor told me to put it on myself, as a result of which I got sick 🤒 although I was assured that using a wetsuit it would not be cold, I have a fairly strong personality and I get sick very rarely… then they told me to put on fins while moving when the boat was thrown in different directions, is it really impossible to put on all the equipment when the boat stops, why such a rush??? We also paid for a package for photos, but the instructor took photos that made no sense, although the sea lions swam a little nearby, not a single photo was taken, even of those lions that were on the beach, when we cut a little close to the lions, about 2 meters, the instructor prepared to immediately return back. The instructor only talked between the Argentines, endless conversations, without devoting time to the excursion. The boat was old, it was very seasick, there were strong waves, on the way back to the beach we were offered only dirty towels, it was cold inside, I will not even say anything about taking a hot shower. If you add it all up, we paid $ 350 usd for two, we did not swim with sea lions, perhaps it was not the company's fault that they did not want to swim to us, but perhaps there were reasons that I described above. In the photo you can see what the waves were, probably if I were a seal, I would probably also be sitting on the beach 😂 and as a result I am lying in bed with a fever and a strong cough, I can't work or do anything, why should I leave a good review since I paid money and got this? I would give a zero rating and hold them liable for causing harm to health if it were possible. Disappointment and pain. Where so many good reviews come from if the flow of people does not correspond to the number of reviews, I do not understand.

We had such a great time, we saw a lot of sealions during our session. The crew was super nice and everything went good. Thanks to Cecilia, who helped us a lot. (They speak french and english perfectly) If you want to dive with the sealions, you should definitly choose Lobo Larsen

We did snorkeling with sea lions which we were actually told by another agency "couldn't happen today because of the weather". So to be honest we were quite skeptical before doing it but WOW! A truly incredible experience, the sea lions came so close we were able to touch them. Thanks to Cecillia, Guido and the team for an incredible experience

Probably best diving school in Patagonia. I got to do my Wreck Diving Specialty with them. Nice spots, great place to dive, but most important, awesome staff! Totally recommend! If you’re an advanced diver, try the wreck diving specialty here!

I did two dives (1x wreck and 1x sea lions) and it was absolutely amazing! The staff were incredible and made the experience even better. The dive equipment and wetsuits were in fantastic condition (brand new), the instructors were fabulous and the dives were the best! The team had great vibes. Loved it! 1000% recommend

We did one wreck dive and swam with the sea lions. The staff were extremely friendly, professional and attentive. The equipment was new and in great condition, good wetsuits, masks and BCDs. Safety briefings and other information provided in English on-board the boat, which had a cozy little cabin to stay warm in between sites. Both dive sites were cool and swimming with the sea lions is a must! Can't recommend highly enough!

If you're looking for an unforgettable wildlife adventure, the Peninsula Valdes Tour offered by Animal Travel is a must-do when visiting Puerto Madryn. This full-day excursion takes you to a UNESCO World Heritage site where you'll encounter fascinating marine life such as elephant seals, penguins, and sea lions. Travelers rave about their experiences at Punta Tombo, where they were captivated by the playful penguins and enriched by the insightful commentary from guides like Hugo.
Hugo and Nicolas were great to have and helped us to have a fantastic day seeing plenty of animals on the Peninsula Valdes tour. We saw penguins, guanacos, armadillos, sea lions, elephant seals, orcas, and lots of birds. The tour bus was clean, on-time, and comfortable. Very good tour and well worth the money. Highly recommend.

We came to Puerto Madryn on a cruise ship. We bought a trip to Punta Tombo online. Nice girls with a plate with our name greeted us at the port. Everything efficiently and without problems. Our guide Juan is brilliant! Huge knowledge and captivating energy. Lunch box full of delicious surprises. Everything efficiently and on time. The number of penguins will satisfy everyone and the views and photos will stay forever.

Very friendly staff at the office and perfect guide. Also English speaking guides are available. We had an all day tour and it was amazing. We felt like being in National Geographic but a live edition. Also good and clean bus and we felt taken care off throughout the whole day. So we highly recommend 👌🏻

Amazing tour company! We did two full day tours with them and our guide Ugo and driver Rene were amazing! They kept stopping and pointing out animals along the way to both destinations. If you book with them I hope you get Ugo and Rene! They truly made the experience worth while.

A great experience. We saw so many whales throughout the day. Animal Travel were very responsive thoughout the whole process as well. And a big shout out to Ugo who was our guide for the day. He wncredibly friendly, funny, passionate and knowledgeable and made the experience very nice for the whole group. Highly recommend Animal Travel for your whale excursion.

What an amazing experience seeing the penguins at Punta Tombo. Our guide, Ugo, made the day really special by sharing his incredible knowledge about Patagonia in general and the penguins species that make the area home. He took the time to point out other animals he spotted on the drive like Rhea and guanaco. Ugo has a great sense of humor and kept us entertained on the drive. If you are in Puerto Madryn, don’t hesitate to book directly with Animal Travel. Communication throughout the process was perfect with quick responses to emails.

Playa el Doradillo is a prime location for witnessing the majestic whales that grace the entire gulf during their specific season. The beach offers a great vantage point due to its depth, allowing visitors to observe the whales up close. To access this beach, one can take Route 42 which runs along the coast and leads to El Doradillo. While the beach is expansive, it can get quite windy at times, making it challenging for picnics on such days.
(September 2023) The amount of whales were unlike ANYTHING I imagined! EVERYWHERE your eyes looked, a puff of water appears and a whale surfaces. If you want to see whales, go there when the tide's high. We went at ~3PM
Uri N — Google review
(Translated by Google) Beautiful beach for walking and whale watching. Ideal for sipping mate. The paved road is a 20-minute walk from the city center. There's also a bike path. If it's windy, I recommend going a little further and reaching Playa las Canteras. After Punta Flecha. (Translated by Google) Impressive, but you'll have to travel if the whales aren't there at that time, to Las Canteras beach further along the path. Don't forget to see them from the height of the lighthouse. Las Canteras always doesn't disappoint at high tide and is a 5-star destination.

(Translated by Google) Everything was very nice, the path was very good. The bad thing was that I went with my pet, and the wildlife rangers told me it was prohibited. I returned to the city to drop it off, and when I returned to Doradillo, I counted more than six pets with their owners. I have photo proof of that. The law should be the same for everyone. (Translated by Google) An extraordinary trip, and at the perfect time of year, since the number of whales there in August was hard to believe, and believing I could see them so close was even more incredible. Luckily, we had a partially sunny day with very little wind. There were whales and calves playing 30 or 40 meters from the beach. It's recommended to find out when the tide is highest, as that makes getting close without a doubt possible. Access by road and to the beach is excellent and very clean. I'll leave two videos that I loved: the whales and the sea retreating over the rocks. Incredible sounds! Sonidos increibles!!!!

The Monumento a los Colonos Galeses is a captivating tribute to the Welsh settlers who founded Puerto Madryn, crafted by renowned Argentine sculptor Luis Perlotti. This impressive monument not only celebrates the city's centenary but also embodies its rich cultural identity. Perlotti drew inspiration from photographs provided by local residents, ensuring that the figures represented in his work reflect the true essence of those early pioneers.

The center's instructors are commended for their professionalism, clear explanations, and encouragement during courses such as Advanced Open Water Certificate and Drysuit Training.
What an experience 🤩 I went snorkeling with the Sealions and it was amazing. On that day I was the only one going snorkling. They took the time to explain everything about the sealions and what rules I had to follow. It took around 25 Mins to get to Punta Loma. I went into the water with one guide who hat a lifebuoy close if I would need a rest. And a Gopro to film everything. You never know if the sealions come close but I had the greatest interactions. I was in the water for about 45 Mins. Back on the boat I got a tea and a Medialuna. ☕️🥐 then I waited on the boat while other guests went Scubadiving, after that we haded back. And saw a whale jumping on the way 💙🐋 I paid extra to get the GoPro videos. But it was 100% worth it. I really recommend Busceohoy for the Snorkeling Tour!

In a city with plenty of dive shops, Bucea Hoy is my favourite option. The team is World Class, they pay attention to every detail above and below the water and mainly they are nice people to dive with. They also do a lot of good things for the environment, ocean cleanup activities and support research projects.

My wife and I did our advanced open water and drysuit training with buceahoy. Thank you buceahoy team Patricio, Joaquín, Eugene, Turu and Natalia for delivering fantastic training courses! We could feel our diving improving everyday and we learnt alot. Puerto madryn was also a great location with plenty of wreck diving, sea lions, and whales are jumping around the whole bay.

Talk about an exhilarating diving experience. Pato, Joaquin and their team provided an amazing and memorable experience. With a total of eight dives, I was able to swim with sea lions, majestically beautiful giant jellyfish, and explored three sunken shipwrecks. I had a blast! Of course, this memorable experience would not have been in play if it weren't for the outstanding customer service I received from Pato, Joaquin, Danna, Altair, Galo, Lucio, Lucas, and Juan Pablo. Thank you very much. A trip to Puerto Madryn to see these amazing creatures and sea artifacts is definitely a bucket list item. I highly recommend hiring the services of Bucea Hoy Dive Resort. As a 5-star PADI dive resort, and with a PADI Course Director with 25+ years experience at the helm, you'll know you're in good hands from a safety and memorable experience perspective.

Great experience at the Dive Center for my PADI Open Water course. I loved the family atmosphere of father and son being both passionate and excellent instructors. They were very professional and friendly, gear was all in good condition, and the dives were super cool. I also appreciated that they accommodated my tight schedule. Communication upfront was easy, and both speak English very well.

We went to see the sea lions at Punta Lomo today. Top notch trip. Really friendly guys at the centre. Good kit. Good instruction (in English which is great as our Spanish leaves something to be desired!) The interaction with the wildlife was fantastic. To top it all off we got stuffed full of pastries on the boat ride back to Puerto Madryn. Thanks guys!

A terrific day out, swimming with the sealions. Patricio and his staff at Buceohoy looked after me extremely well and Jaime got me up close with the sealions. Florencia and Altair had their tanks on and the sealions came to play. I am now a pensioner but dived all over the world when younger. This crew is world class. Thank you Buceohoy. Patrick
