The Shingen-Mochi Factory Theme Park is a popular destination for those interested in traditional Japanese sweets. Visitors can enjoy free tours of the candy factory and witness skilled workers wrapping each mochi in under 6 seconds. The theme park also offers the opportunity to participate in making creative Japanese sweets using seasonal flavors. Additionally, there is a shop on-site where visitors can purchase a variety of affordable sweets and snacks.
No need to buy ticket or reservation to visit 🆓 It is an indeed new experience to able to see mochi making process, not the whole process basically only packing and see them goes through a conveyor, but to watch the staff working is kind of satisfying cuz they move quickly. Various kind of snack and mochi are available here, with super duper cute and traditional packaging 😻

Great factory outlet if you are into mochi. Tour is free and pretty fast, don’t come on a Sunday if you are looking for action in the tour. Most of the line is close. But if you are on the way to the north and don’t mind buying mochi. Can stop by There are two gift shops. When facing the main building at the entrance, The. Left side is close to expiry items and less frills but also cheaper. Right side are more for gifts to others, longer expiry Note that most items expire within a week so best to check Also lots of locals visit, it’s a factory outlet after all
Ryan P — Google review
Fun experience, get to see the whole process and a great shop at the end. Would recommend planning in advance and coming early before the tourist buses hit, as it can get very busy. Got my self the Yuru Camp Nadeshiko set, super tasty and super cute.

Having a free tour of what is going inside their factory is a fun learning experience, but if you are not a fan of those things, I wouldn't recommend going because it would be boring😊the matcha ice with shingen mochi is a must try, yummy 😋
SANDRA Y — Google review
Great free self guided tour of a real factory that makes mochi. Just wander around at your own pace and view the workers making mochi! At the end of the tour you can get the famous mochi ice cream! The place was packed on a Tuesday with tour buses
Jason O — Google review
Watch the man power required to wrap each shingen mochi! I love the shingen mochi from here, so I wanted to come visit this factory. It is very cool to just watch these skilled individuals wrap each mochi under 6 seconds. They have a store beside the factory that you wouldn’t want to miss! They sell a lot of different sweats and snacks for cheap. If you want to get cheap shingen mochi you better be ready to line up before the store opens. I was the first person in line and was there an hour before opening. The group 10 person back(throwing up numbers here but isn’t that far off) couldn’t get any by the time they came in. One per person but people come in groups, so be there early. They have other deals so not to worry but if you want cheap shingen mochi you better come early. They also have an “all you can stuff into a bag” event for 220 yen??? However you have to really get their early for this and get a number. Once your number is called you can participate.
Andrew A — Google review
A factory of a Yamanashi’s famous Shingen Mochi snack. Shingen mochi is a popular mochi snack in Yamanashi. This is the factory that makes all the product and you can see it’s been packaged by human one by one with super fast tie. The factory also has an outlet store and cafe.

Outdoor bath
Hottarakashi Onsen is a hot spring retreat offering separate outdoor baths for men and women. It is renowned for its breathtaking sunrise and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Nestled in the hills above Fuefuki Fruits Park, this simple yet remarkable onsen provides unparalleled vistas of the surrounding mountains, with Mount Fuji majestically dominating the scenery. The nearby go-kart track adds to the area's appeal, attracting many iCLA students.
The onsen with the greatest view in Japan. It's open as early as sunrise, so you can take a bath while watching the beautiful sunrise over the mountain range in Yamanashi. There is two onsens available, one of which has the signature view and newer, which is the one I went for. There is a restaurant at the top which serves the popular fried boiled egg which taste amazing after soaking in the onsen bath.
John L — Google review
Gorgeous location, great prices (only 900 yen or $6 for a bath), and tattoo friendly, which was the main reason I picked this location. I stayed at the nearby Fruit Park Fujiya hotel and hiked about 35 minutes up to the Onsen. Very rural feel. I wish there’d been less fog for a better view of Fuji, but maybe next time.
Reid S — Google review
This was an incredible experience, the view from the baths was gorgeous mountaintops. I highly recommend going for sunrise as it was cooler so you could enjoy the heat of the baths more (we arrived at 5:15am and there were already around 100 people in line). Everyone was really accepting although no one seemed to speak english so you had to figure most things out for yourself. Lockers were available for valuables whilst in the onsen, and we were allowed in with tattoos. No public transport available to the onsen, would be a hard walk on the side of a road up a mountain, taxi/car recommended. Definitely go if you are in the area!
Bella H — Google review
The onsen was pretty clean, affordable, and has outdoor area, but very basic. They dont have sauna/steam or other recreational features, only hot pools (1 indoor and some outdoors). The outdoor area is quite big and has many hidden corner for someone who doesn’t really comfortable being naked in front of others. The water was not too chlorinated and was okay for my skin and hair to get soaked in long period. I went there during night & end of winter, so got only city view and the hot spring was just perfect for the winter cold. They provided towel (for extra charges) and basic shampoo & shower gel. It’s recommended if you want to try traditional Japanese onsen.

One of the best hot spring place to see Mt. Fuji
Y S — Google review
A hot spring adjacent to Fruit Line and Fuefukigawa Park. Select "Over there" or "Here" to enter. You cannot enter both for the same bath fee. Perfect for washing off your sweat at the park or riding a go-kart. It's best when you sprinkle salt on fried eggs and eat them with a bottle of milk.
Youji N — Google review
Nice natural hot spring “Onsen”. Genders are separated and you got to be completely naked. Price is reasonable too at 800 yen entry and 1000 yen for a towel. Taxi from Ishiawa train station is about 4000 yen for one way. Tattoos seemed to be ok too. Went in with a big dragon tattoo and no one complained. Also, I saw one Japanese man with a large koi fish tattoo on his leg. Food options are available. Great view of Mt Fuji. Apparently amazing for sunrise. Shower before going into the water, not when you get out.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fuefukigawa Fruit Park is a popular destination in Yamanashi, known for its gardens, play equipment, and glass domes housing a fruit museum and greenhouse. The region is renowned for producing delectable fruits like peaches, grapes, and strawberries. Visitors can enjoy fruit picking at local farms from summer to autumn. At the park, guests can savor fresh fruits straight from the trees and explore various activities such as fruit workshops and orchard experiences.
Fuefukigawa is a huge establishment with many buildings, play areas, and planted green spaces. Very walk-able, but bring an umbrella during sunny days. The indoor domes get hot, so keep water with you. There is a cafe and a restaurant, and if you have the time the restaurant is very good with AC and reasonable prices.

Nice park where you can enjoy the scenario from the hill to the city. There is fish catching activity, and you can grill the fish after catching. It’s fun for kids.
Thang V — Google review
Beautiful place! There are all kind of fruit trees here. You can see how the gorgeous fruits are growing beautifully. Remember to be respectful and don’t pick the fruit! They have plenty of places around the area where you can buy all kinds of fruits. Also there are lots of areas where kids can play! There is the outdoor playground, aqua park, indoor playground in the dome, underground museum with interactive activities, and more. There are couple options for lunch time, fish grilling at the aqua park area, that’s seasonal. Bbq, restaurant, snacks, and the delicious seasonal parfait. I got to try the muscat one and it was amazing! Come early to enjoy as much as you can! Have lunch in the area, get some souvenirs and delicious treats and at the end enjoy at their onsen! A perfect day!

Fuefukigawa is an excellent scenic spot. Many spacious parking lots, attractive views. Spend pleasant moments with your family, children, friends, and loved ones. Make memories of happy moments, but renew love in the best atmosphere. Refresh your mood with your favorite snacks, meals, barbeque, ice cream and soft drinks. A beautiful antique railway train is waiting for you to take you around the park. Water Park is a very enjoyable place for children. Where children fulfill their wishes. And with it the freshest fruits from the orchards are eager to accompany you. However, no matter how much we talk about the charm of this park, it is less.

Awesome place to spend the day. Non car access: bus from Yamanashi-shi. (I used electric bike along Fruits Line road from Isawa. Would recommend.) Space for kids, dog run, great views, an underground fruit archaeology museum, restaurants, shops, this place has something for everyone.

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks

Kai Zenkōji Temple, located in Kofu city, is an ancient and remarkable Buddhist temple with a rich history. Built by Lord Shingen in 1558, it was intended to safeguard Buddhist treasures from Shinano Zenko-ji Temple during the battles of Kawanakajima. The temple houses the largest wooden structures in Eastern Japan and symbolizes significant treasures in Japanese culture. Visitors can explore the atmospheric main hall and experience unique acoustic properties that reflect sound back at them.
For those of you visiting from overseas, do you know Takeda Shingen, Japan's strongest Sengoku warlord? During the Battle of Kawanakajima, he moved the main hall, Amida Nyorai, various Buddhas, temple treasures, and the bell to this location so that Zenkoji Temple would not be hit by the flames of war. It's not flashy, but you can enjoy the good old Japanese atmosphere. Please come and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.
Mic ( — Google review
Kai Zenkoji Temple was underwhelming. While the temple itself is decent, it lacks the charm and care that I expected. The surrounding area felt somewhat uninspired, and there wasn’t much information provided about the temple's history or significance. It didn't have the peaceful atmosphere I was hoping for, making the visit feel a bit lackluster. Overall, it’s not worth going out of your way to see.
Hannes P — Google review
A historic temple very worthwhile stopping by if you're in Kofu. The grounds are not huge, but the main hall is impressive and attractively weathered. There's a 'hell' you can go through feeling for a lock in the pitch black basement -- more fun than it sounds! Also take time to go off to the right of the main hall and there is a collection of interesting statues of Buddhist deities particular to the Yamanashi area.

Hoto noodle restaurant
Hoto Funari Fruit line ave is a traditional Japanese restaurant located just a few miles away from an onsen, making it convenient for visitors to enjoy both experiences in one trip. The staff are known for their attentiveness and dedication to cleanliness, with a great selection of dishes available on the menu, including their specialty Houtou noodles. The restaurant offers both traditional floor seating and small chairs upon request. Visitors can also expect seasonal specials and English menus.
This is a traditional Japanese restaurant where you'll sit on the floor. There are small chairs available if you ask. The houtou here is their specialty, and they take credit card. They have an English menu, but ask about their seasonal specials too! Great price and food. I got the mushroom houtou.

(Translated by Google) I visited for the first time in a year, and I was impressed by the high quality of the food, atmosphere, and customer service. The food was delicious and you could tell that a lot of effort had been put into each dish. There are two things I would like to see improved in the future. ・Among the people who bring the food, there are people who don't give explanations. Therefore, education that thoroughly explains need. ・We were the last customers for lunch and had not yet left. The clerk is cleaning the toilet despite the fact that It's better to stop showing your face. When I tried to use the restroom when leaving the store, the store staff I was surprised that he was cleaning it himself.

Hoto noodle restaurant
Kosaku is a popular spot that doesn't take reservations, so be prepared to wait. Despite the wait and the busy atmosphere, the service was not rude and the food was worth it. The stone pot dishes keep the food hot until the end, and their hoto noodles are delicious and hearty. The restaurant has a relaxed feel with accommodating staff. The desserts are beautifully presented and delicious. Visitors recommend trying their hotpot dishes as they are tasty and unique to this place.
This place was recommended to us by the manager of our guesthouse. We arrived at 7:30 PM and, despite the restaurant being quite large, it was completely full. We had to put our names on a waiting list and wait for a table. While waiting, you can already choose your dishes – menus are available outside the entrance. Around 8:00 PM, the crowd started to thin out noticeably. The service was efficient and friendly. They even found us an English menu. The hōtō was served in cast-iron pots, which kept it hot for a long time. The noodles were wonderfully firm and springy, and the soup was aromatic and nicely thickened. The portion was very generous – had we known, we would have shared one soup between two people and ordered a side dish. At the exit, you can buy packaged hōtō noodles and locally made mochi. There is a large parking lot in front of the restaurant. It’s clear this place is well-known and popular among locals – which is usually the best recommendation.

We had to wait for more than one hour to have our table. But even in waiting, people keep on coming. The food was good. They served the popular Houtou dish of Yamanashi-Shizuoka(?) They served different kinds of Houtou. We tried the pork. It taste good 👍🏼
Faye S — Google review
We waited a long time 50 mins for the food. The houtou itself is very starchy, so don't get the suiton because that's even starchier 😰 They were very generous with ingredients. Service was pleasant.

If you are not a big eater, the serving is good for two. I enjoyed the taste of their kabucha (pumpkin) hotou. If you are not a fan of udon, they also have soba and tendons😊

Wanted to try the local Hoto noodles and this place didn’t disappoint! The staff was very friendly and they had an English menu for us which was really nice. Would definitely recommend if you’re staying in the area.
Emma S — Google review
Unique food called Hōtō where you can only find in this Yamanashi area. We had to wait for 10 minutes since the restaurant was packed. Hōtō is like a flat udon with miso soup, plus a LOT of vegetables. It's very warming. Feel especially good in a cold or rainy days. Great atmosphere, you have to sit on the tatami though so prepared yourselves if you're not used to sitting with crossed legs. They have English menu for foreigners too. You just raise your hand up when you want to call the staffs, they'll come for you.
Wing T — Google review
They don’t take reservations so expect to wait! We waited about 50 minutes for our table for 7. There were so many people waiting, we actually weren’t allowed to all wait inside despite the rain outside. I wouldn’t say the service was necessarily that attentive. They were just so busy! But also they weren’t rude, so it was fine. We ordered 7 different varieties, and actually all of them were good. No complaints from anyone. In fact, I loved that it came in the stone pot so that my food stayed hot until the end. The hoto noodles were interesting (in a good way), and the toppings were plentiful. By the end, we were all rolling out of the restaurants like balls cause we were just so full!

We had a brief stop at Koshu Hoto Kosaku while visiting Fuji 🗻. Me and my friend ordered the spicy beef kalbi Hoto and duck dish. Both were great. I liked the spicy beef one as it was more flavorful. 🍜 Service was great, they got us English menu and followed up on any requests.

Seafood restaurant
Red Lobster Kofu offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully blends the renowned hospitality of Japan with an impressive seafood menu. Guests rave about the lobster claws and the standout cioppino, featuring a rustic tomato pepper broth brimming with tender seafood and spices reminiscent of Old Bay. The restaurant also serves solid clam chowder and generous portions of clams, while combo plates provide variety for those looking to indulge.
Great food and fast service. We were there at the beginning of lunchtime. The food came out quickly. Highly recommend this restaurant, and they even have a kid's menu.

Shrimp & vegetable curry was really good as well as the other dishes. The lunch set comes with a drink of choice (free refill), a dessert of your choice, an appetizer and a main. Everything tasted really good and you’ll get a lot for around ¥1800. Friendly staff, spacious, clean, plenty of parking and just had a great lunch. Will definitely go again if ever again in the area.

A fantastic reminder of the US, with the superb customer service of Japan. This Red Lobster does not disappoint with products, service, or quality. Absolutely loved the lobster claws, but it was the cioppino that took the spotlight. Rustic tomato pepper broth, delicious tender seafood, and a lovely old bay like spice. Wonderful with bread. Solid clam chowder, and great sized clams. Combo plate was great! Not a big fine of mayo or cheese on lobster, but it came with the plate. Fantastic paella, and a really good scallop. Dessert was a cheesecake creme brulee with mix berry coulis. Good tack, and rich custard. The coulis paired well, and left a refreshing finish. I will be back, if not for the nostalgia but the wonderful food.

Parking Lot is wide. The vibe inside the restaurant is kinda vintage. Its kind a warm and comfy. There's also a background music which is pop music.(i'd prefer some jazz/lounge music tho to match the comfy vibe 😅). Well, for the food its good but not as i expected. We ordered tower onion rings which i rate 5/5 unlike other onion rings, red lobsters onion ring has a crunchy texture outside and soft in the inside(other has too much coat and become soggy when cold) also there is mustard and catsup which is separated(so sweet, they think of customers who dont like mustard that much) 🙂. Next is the mussel /oyster with some fresh veggies on top, this would be my favorite in all we ordered,i'll rate it 5/5. I'm not fond of mussels but this food change my taste 😂 the salty sour veggies give accent to the mussels that will make you crave more while eating it. I would totally reccomend this one!next! Next is the lobster claw. I don't know. But in my opinion this one would be the last on my list. I would rate it 1/5. The texture of the claw was to rubbery and hard. I also dont understand why theres a ketchup/ catsup there😅😅 i really wanted to try lobster in a restaurant cause the last time we cooked a lobster its has the same texture and i thought maybe when restaurant would cook it, it would be taste much better. But now i know 😂🤣 Next is the paella. I'll rate 3/5. It taste good, good plating, lot of toppings but as i eat the taste gets boring.. Next the cheesy lobster and steak. I will rate it 3/5 not satisfied with the taste.. i think there's something missing. The baked lobster and cheese taste good, the steak kind a little bit hard sauce lack of saltiness to my taste. Maybe the combination of steak and lobster doesn't suit thats why i can't be satisfied. Next, the big steak. It was medium rare, tasty but lack of juiciness. Also its too fast to cooldown.i ate 1/4 of it and the steak is already cold. Maybe if this steak has warmer this would be very satisfying. I'll rate this 4/5. Garlic bread. 3/5. Same as the pan i bought anywhere. Too expensive for a bread that doesn't have any special feature. Garlic rice i will rate it 5/5. This garlic rice isn't just a garlic rice. I would prefer to call it a bacon pilaf. Compared to the normal garlic rice(which is white rice, fried garlic, salt, butter) this one is unique. Just order it so you will find out what i'm saying.

Takeda Shrine is a significant place of worship located on the ruins of the Tsutsujigasaki fortified residence, once ruled by the powerful Takeda clan during Japan's Warring States period. The shrine, built in 1919 to honor Kofu's revered leader, Takeda Shingen, features original moats and stone walls from the historic stronghold. Visitors can explore the Homotsuden treasure house showcasing authentic weapons and armor from the Takeda clan.
I recently visited Takeda Shrine, and it exceeded all my expectations! If you're a Japan history buff like me, this place is a must-visit. Nestled in a serene setting, Takeda Shrine offers a fascinating journey into the rich history of the Takeda clan, particularly during the reign of Takeda Shingen. The highlight for history enthusiasts is undoubtedly the museum dedicated to the Takeda clan. It provides an in-depth look into the life and times of Takeda Shingen, showcasing artifacts, relics, and informative displays that transport you back to that era. The attention to detail is commendable, making it a truly immersive experience. The serene surroundings also make it a peaceful escape for families looking to enjoy some quality time together.

I visited by bicycle. Since there wasn't a designated bike parking area, a security guard kindly directed me to a place where I could park. The road to Takeda Shrine has a steady uphill slope. The shrine grounds are very well-maintained, making for a pleasant walk.

Interesting historic site a lovely 3km walk from the Kofu JR station. Small and well-kept but nothing spectacular. There is a museum just 100m away from the shrine which can be visited for free for the regular exhibits. Do visit if you have the time but may not worth coming here especially for the shrine.
Tammy ( — Google review
Takeda Shrine is a compelling mix of spiritual serenity, historical intrigue, and cultural heritage, offering a unique glimpse into the life of one of Japan's greatest samurai.
Pieter A — Google review
During my early college years, I had to do a report on Takeda Shingen. Years later on this day, I had the honor of visiting a shrine dedicated to him. The shrine has an array of Shingen theme charms and you can even purchase a small scale size of his banner. Unfortunately the Shingen museum was closed due some renovations, but artifacts site was open and there were plenty of historic displays including katanas, kabutos, scrolls, and banner used in battle.

Must visit here if you come to kofu. A city full of takeda seal (The red diagonal diamond). From the station you need to either walk 2.1km up a slop or take a bus @190yen per person just outside the station. Not to worry the bus can exchange big note to small change. When enter the bus (every half hour) take the ticket from the back gate. Before reaching the shine press the bell. The bus driver will stop and see you pay the bus fee . Very convenient.

The whole area is full of historical spots to see, and this one is a rich and well-maintained jewel. Any time of the day, it’s beautiful and lush to see. There is a noh stage in addition to the usual hostels. If you’re into samurai, it’s a must-visit.

Koshu Yume Kouji is a captivating destination that transports visitors back to the Meiji and early Showa periods, recreating the charming streets of Kofu as a historic castle town. Just a short stroll from JR Kofu Station, this vibrant area showcases traditional crafts unique to Yamanashi, alongside delightful restaurants serving dishes made with local ingredients.
Visited on 15th Jan. 2019. An old street yet with really nice atmosphere. There are few interesting shops there. Can get some souvenir or have a desert. Additionally, paid parking lot is not far at all. Decent place for taking a walk.

Yamanashi Prefectural Science Museum, located in Kofu, offers a range of interactive educational activities and features a planetarium. Despite its small size, the museum is a must-visit for science enthusiasts. Originally housed in Maizuru Castle, it was relocated to its current location in 1998. Visitors can explore exhibitions on astronomy and technology.
I am not go in, but there are a lot of kid that play in here and park near this place. Eventhough not coming in, I go to the deck and get a very nice view of Fuji mountain. I think this is a good place to take Fuji mountain photograph on the clear day

Excellent for kids at a young age. Quite a few of interesting activities indoors which are fun and educational. You can check the website to find out the dates and time the planetarium open for visiting. There is also a large outdoor playground suitable for kids at all ages. There is a sign showing that you can walk to Kofu JR station but the fallen leaves covered the track and became quite slippery if unprepared.

Shosenkyo Ropeway offers gondola rides to the summit of a forested mountain, providing stunning views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding mountains. The five-minute journey showcases Mt. Yasaburo, Mt. Fuji, Southern Japan Alps, and the Chichibu Mountains. At the top, visitors can explore shops and restaurants along the path to Sengataki waterfall before taking a short aerial walk from the ropeway gate to Panorama-dai station for more breathtaking views.
Taking the ropeway wasn't much but it offered great views from the top. Just be prepared for lots of people unless you go early. Would have been more stunning if the autumn colors was not delayed. Nevertheless, a nice place to visit if you here
C.H L — Google review
The cable car ride that goes up to the mountain. Its 1500円 for an adult and well worth the journey. The views are amazing up there and there is a lot to see. Before going up the mountain in the cable, remember to wear good hiking and trail shoes because it isn't a normal walk on a man-made surface, it literally is a serious dirt and rock trail that can be dangerous if your ignorant. Its not advanced, just be prepared is all I say, if you want the best pictures and videos of the mountians and Mt. Fuji. Highly recommended visit for sure!
Kay P — Google review
I loved the additional paths to explore after using the Gondola! The hike up to the Gondola was beautiful. I definitely recommend. Although the ticket price has gone up since when I first researched it. The round trip ticket price is now ¥1,500. Still worth it in my opinion.
Ms. N — Google review
Ropeway up is short, just 5mins. The view is quite nice but will be best in autumn to see the colours of change. The street at the base are full of gems stone shops, if you are a collector, can choice some. A nice museum to visit there also. The Mitake Shosenkyo gorge is the key attraction, I will compare to Taiwan Takoro, if you have time, should hike along the path to the other end. Waterfall is nice. There a very interesting noodle shop just beside the big carpark, mimic the water flow noodles but in a special water feature on the table with the water constantly in move and change thru pipes below, it fresh from the river.
Gary S — Google review
Just the size good for a day trip! We went to enjoy autumn leaves. The original schedule says every 20min running but it runs every 5min for high season. You will enjoy a nice view on the way and there are some easy walking place on the summit.

The gondola/mountain lift/ cable car is having limited capacity of ~30 folks and every twenty minutes - it’s a nice place to visit and glimpse view Fuji-San and do small treks on the top…. The golden koi fish pond in the starting station and the restaurant with soft serve on the top are nice
Pavan K — Google review
20191228, 2pm Really nice view of Fuji-san. The trek up to the view spot (panoramic pic posted here) was a nice small trek but be careful as there are no rails or side guards on the trail. Small kids and elderly who don’t have good balance could be a risk. Parking was very convenient and even if the parking lot is full, drive a bit more to see another parking lot on the left (saw this while walking to the waterfall). When you arrive, be cautious as the cable car sways back and forth. Not a big issue but it is something to notice when exiting the car. Even on a cold day, we enjoyed the (blueberry?) soft ice cream while waiting for the cable car back down. Very tasty!
Greg G — Google review
A little too packed on the weekend, especially with the Coronavirus going around. But otherwise gives you a great view and if it's a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji. Definitely recommend for the autumn leaves too.

Ramen restaurant
Nestled on the second floor of the charming Koshu Yumekoji, Tokueiken is a delightful ramen spot that captures the essence of a retro town while serving up delicious dishes. Despite being in a tourist-heavy area, visitors can often find seating without much wait. The restaurant boasts an inviting atmosphere and features a modern QR code ordering system that adds convenience to your dining experience. During my visit, I was drawn to their Shina Soba and Char Siu Rice Bowl.
It was a great place, ramen looked like from a picture. Highly recommended.
Ovisss — Google review
(Translated by Google) For some reason, there's a ramen shop in a tourist-oriented retro town, and for some reason it's delicious. It is located on the second floor of a retro-style commercial facility called Koshu Yumekoji near Koshu Station. It reminds me of the cul-de-sac at Zenkoji Temple in Nagano, but ramen here? I felt doubtful. To be honest, I went in because I couldn't eat hoto. The interior is homey and the menu is the same. I think it would be better to change the menu because there are too many characters, and the ordering method is too homey, and it lowers expectations and is a bit troublesome. I thought so too. When I ordered the meat soba as the main course, I was surprised at how delicious it was. It's easy to understand that it's a double soup, and although it has a nostalgic, light-hearted flavor, it's beautifully deep. Although it's easy to eat, it's not monotonous, and the ingredients are carefully selected. The char siu is authentic ``Shina Soba'', including the red char siu style found in Chinese cuisine. It's quite difficult to keep things this exact, and there aren't many of them, even in Tokyo. The quality of this retro soy sauce ramen is extremely high. The gyoza was standard, and my companion had chilled ramen, but it was unusual because it contained seafood powder. Another thing I would like to point out is that the special table spices that contain seafood powder are seasoned with good flavor and are delicious. Please try it. It's a bit of a mystery that it's located in a tourist spot, despite its retro and homely feel, but it's a mysterious shop with a high level of perfection that makes you even more surprised.

Yakiniku restaurant
Nestled near Kofu Station, Bokuri Kitaguchi Honten is a charming yakiniku restaurant that caters to a diverse crowd, from friends and coworkers to families. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, enhanced by the friendly service from the staff who are eager to assist with your dining experience. One of the standout dishes here is the cubed skirt steak; its juicy flavors burst forth with every bite, complemented perfectly by an exquisite sauce that elevates the meat's natural taste.

There are pros and cons about ordering via QR code, but personally I think it's a good choice. Being able to order without having to call out is actually convenient and easy. All of the meat is great. The savory dishes are well-seasoned and go well with rice. I would recommend the diced meat. The side dishes are also of high quality! The roaster doesn't produce much smoke, so the smell isn't too bothersome! The sunken kotatsu seating is spacious, so it's perfect for bringing children! This is a restaurant I would recommend to anyone! Thank you for the meal! (Original) 家族での食事で利用しました! 昔から通っているお店です! (Translated by Google) I like the seasoning here the most. Among them, the cubed steak (skirt steak) is exquisite. The juicy meat juices overflow, and the more you chew, the more flavor you get. Of course, the skirt steak sauce is also delicious. The sauce is exquisite and brings out the flavor of the meat even more. We also recommend the ``Bokuri Salad,'' which bears the store's name. The natural flavor of the dressing goes well with the crunchy lettuce. I forgot to take a photo, but the Baechu Kimchi and Oi Kimchi were so fresh that I couldn't stop eating them with chopsticks. Today's ``Bokuri Kalbi'' felt a little too greasy, but the standard short ribs had just the right amount of marbling, sweetness, and were very delicious. Also, the salt hormone (Shimachō) and Mino (Miso) are also good seasonings. And always end with Kalbi kouppa. The flavor of the shiitake mushrooms combined with the soup that has a strong flavor of beef makes it so delicious that you will want to eat it again and again (I forgot to take a photo). It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I especially liked the first scene where they showed us the crabs used in the dish. All the dishes are delicious, not only the fried chicken and chawanmushi, but also the Shuto ice cream that comes with the sashimi is exquisite! Additionally, the sake pairings (Kuzuryu, etc.) were excellent and went well with the food. The inside of the store has a calm atmosphere, and there is a counter and private rooms, so it can be used for various occasions. Another great thing about this store is that it supports cashless payment, making it convenient. Narusawa Ice Cave is a small lava tube cave located near Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko in Japan. It features pillar-like ice formations during the winter months, reaching as far as 21 meters underground. The cave was formed by the eruption of Mt. Nagao in 864, which hollowed out vast underground caverns.
An incredible experience visiting this place. I went during the summer, and although it was scorching hot outside, the temperature dropped drastically as soon as I entered. Even though the cave isn’t very deep, the difference in temperature was significant. The route wasn't very long either, but it was enough to make me shiver from the cold

Ice cave is wonderful to get away from the hot weather. I was worried by their maps that made it look like we could run into a room with water or fall down a tunnel, but the handrails kept us on path. It is a short 20 mins but be warned the stairs and passages are steep, wet, and can be slippery. There is one narrow and low ceiling passage of about 20 feet. There is a couple of places with low ceiling to duck down. I would not recommend this if you have mobility problems and a couple of sections gets dark. There are bars to hold onto but one bar seemed a little wobbly. You can use one of their free helmets but there were only 5 total helmets there— there was one other group of 3 people at the cave while we were there and they didn’t have helmets so not sure if the facility only has 5 helmets for all visitors. There is one section that has the ice to see on the left and right. When we went, there didn’t seem to be as much ice as other people’s pictures. It was cool to see the natural ice formation and not something I would go out of your way for, but if you are in the area and interested in geology then drop by. They also had clean restrooms.

Cheap but cheerful cave experience amongst beautiful naturescape. Visit during winter to see ice pillars. We visited in autumn & signs pre-warned ice pillars had melted, so we knew what to expect. Still went for the experience! Steep but short climb down 21m. Cold, so prepare accordingly. Watch your head for low hanging rocks. A short section where we had to pretty much crawl through - a unique experience! Take as long as you like, but approx 10min round trip. 1.4km trail walk (30min) to Wind Cave - can purchase combo tickets. Well worth it for something different and a bit of a nature walk. But you can also drive there.

A unique and memorable stop near Mount Fuji. The Narusawa Ice Cave takes you through narrow lava-tube tunnels with impressive ice formations that stay frozen all year. It’s short (so take your time and make the most of it) but fascinating, about a 20-minute walk through chilly, dim passages that feel like an underground adventure. It can be slippery and tight in spots, even a section to almost crawl, so wear good shoes and a light jacket. The staff are friendly, and signs are available in English and Japanese. Great to pair with the nearby Fugaku Wind Cave for a full experience. Easy to access by car, plenty of parking onsite and leading into, or local bus, and well worth the visit if you’re exploring the Fuji Five Lakes area. There is a gift shop attached where you can also purchase food items. We also visited the Wind Cave, this experience was a little more comfortable, ticket entry can be purchased for both caves at each site.

Narusawa Ice Cave is another place I visited during my trip to Mt. Fuji. Visiting this ice cave offers a great opportunity for physical activity and exercise. I'm glad I can handle it. The Narusawa Ice Cave is not particularly impressive. However, it's fun if you have a whole group of friends who can go together.

Although short, the ice cave is a unique and refreshing experience. Even in summer, it’s cold inside, and the crouching and squeezing through narrow passages to go deeper makes it all the more fun.
Upasana P — Google review
Located in the Aokigahara Forest at the northwestern foot of Mt. Fuji, Narusawa Ice Cave is a small lava tube formed about 1,150 years ago during one of Fuji’s eruptions. The temperature inside remains around 0–3°C throughout the year, allowing impressive ice formations to persist even in summer. The walking path is short — about 150 meters — leading down a narrow, slippery tunnel with solidified lava walls and a distinct chill in the air. Two main chambers display preserved ice: one illuminated with soft blue light, the other protected behind metal bars. A full visit takes around 10–15 minutes, and while it’s interesting from a geological perspective, the experience can feel brief — essentially a short descent to view the ice and back. It’s best to buy a combined ticket that includes Fugaku Wind Cave nearby, for a more complete and rewarding visit to the Fuji Five Lakes Geopark area

Take a trip into a lava cave. No actual lava involved. There are ice blocks. Temperature is 0*C to 3*C in the cave. It has been used for cold storage of silk worm cocoons and seeds. The stairway down is uneven, but not dangerous if care is used. It is not a very long distance into the cave. Basalt and cooled lava are readily viewable. The store at the beginning of the path has corn ice cream. I highly recommend trying it with a bit of salt.

Just down the road from the Narusawa Ice Cave, the Fugaku Wind Cave is another must-see spot in the Fuji Five Lakes area. This naturally formed lava tube stays cool all year, with temperatures around zero degrees even in summer, perfect for a quick escape from the heat. Inside, you’ll see displays showing how the cave was once used to store silkworm eggs and seeds, along with impressive ice pillars and rock formations. The walk is smooth and easier than the Ice Cave, making it great for families or anyone wanting a calmer underground experience. The site is well-maintained, has clear English signs, and offers free parking nearby. A short, cool, and educational stop, best enjoyed together with the Ice Cave for a full Mount Fuji lava cave adventure.

Fugaku Wind Cave is an interesting lava tube formed over 1,000 years ago by an eruption of Mt. Fuji. Compared to the nearby Narusawa Ice Cave, this one offers a wider and more comfortable passage, allowing for an easy and pleasant walk through its cool, dark interior. Inside, the temperature remains around 3°C year-round, and during the Edo period the cave was used as a natural refrigerator for silkworm eggs and seeds. The visit takes about 15–20 minutes, and buying a combined ticket for both caves is convenient and recommended, as they complement each other perfectly. What I found most captivating were the walls covered with vivid green mosses and lichens, their color strikingly contrasting with the glossy black lava. Interestingly, these plants grow even in the deeper parts of the cave, where artificial lighting allows them to photosynthesize, creating a mysterious and almost surreal atmosphere.
Anna K — Google review
Great lava tube, far too crowded with people on a hot day, too loud from children, and to slow to move through with girls taking selfie pictures. I recommend the bat or dragon caves for less people and to enjoy the spaces.

The Fugaku Wind Cave is a fun place to visit if you can physically handle the walk and crawling in some cases. The entire trip involves walking up and down many stairs. Make sure you pick up a helmet at the entrance to protect your head if you are not a short person. The cave is fun to watch if you know you can handle it physically.

Kōfu City Yūki Park is a serene and popular destination for visitors of all ages, featuring the Kofu city zoo. The park's grounds were once part of the Ichirenji Buddhist temple, with remnants of old temple buildings still visible on the periphery. It offers a mini zoo experience that delights children, though it may not be as expansive as others. Recent updates have enhanced its appeal for kids, and there's anticipation for the reopening of the zoo.
Went there during the food festival. Had a fun time trying all the different kind of treats. The zoo has a variety of animals too.

Terrible conditions. It was upsetting to see the animals is such small cages or tiny concrete enclosures with nothing to stimulate them. My Daughter kept asking to save them, it was that bad
IceBear C — Google review
A simple place to be in. This is, for me, like a mini zoo. It isn't as big as all others I've been to, but the kids still enjoyed here especially my youngest who loves animals so much! The entrance fee is okay, though. (¥320 for adults and ¥30 for kids - not quite sure their age ranges)
Sylvia S — Google review
I liked this place but it did look run down...old. I was surprised to see that they had the animals that are at big zoos. I think many areas need to be painted and the facilities need to be updated for a more enjoyable experience. Besides that, I was able to enjoy my daughter seeing animals like penguins, tigers, lions and others for the first time. Once again, the habitats for the big animals look like they are the most basic possible. Just concrete with very little vegetation doesn't seem like they would be happy. This is a huge park with several places to see and for kids to play around, but I hope that the parks management can find the funds to put into the park to make it better for the animals and visitors as well.
Thomas R — Google review
Currently under construction, but the animals are being kept in their cages around the construction site. The noise must be very distressing for them. Doesn’t seem ethical at all!
Grace E — Google review
Great little park. The recent update makes it more enjoyable for kids of all ages. I can’t wait until the zoo opens back up. The new temple looks really nice as well.
Noire ( — Google review
Everyone should come to this zoo. Not because it's good, but the animals need more money for better housing. They looked all so sad in the small cages and such. Please come and support the zoo so the animals can have a better life. Also I wouldn't mind paying ¥500 for an entrance fee to help out.

Specialty Museums
Yamanashi Prefectural Museum, established in 1982, offers a deep dive into the history of Yamanashi through archaeological artifacts. From the Paleolithic era to the Edo period, visitors can explore the prefecture's past, including Kofu Castle's time. The museum also provides interactive experiences like ancient fire-starting and crafting magatama beads. Set against Yamanashi's lush woodlands and mountains, this museum highlights the intricate relationship between nature and humanity.
A pretty solid prefectural museum, if considerably off the beaten path. The permanent exhibition does a great job at walking you through the storied history of Yamanashi's past (albeit with a couple hundred year leaps) and there were tons of interactive exhibits at the end that were fun to mess around with. When I went (July 2024) they were doing a special exhibition on animals in the Edo period in collaboration with the Edo-Tokyo museum, and that was spectacular. Lots of great pieces on display, and very informative on the history of animals in Japan. Price: 1,250 (Permanent + Special Exhibition combo ticket) Notes: There's an audio guide for some English explanations, but otherwise the museum is entirely in Japanese.
Daniel C — Google review
The museum was great, nice exhibits of feudal life in Yamanashi prefecture. I know it's not a foreign tourist spot, but the exhibits could use maybe English wording as mobile phones are prohibited, so we couldn't use our phones for translation. The five stars actually go to a young attendant working at the museum who despite the language barrier really gave her best to explain the central exhibit. We did use phones at least for speech translation. Thank you very much!
Dane7584 — Google review
This place offers great historical information, which includes artifacts used by the people of Japan hundreds if not over a thousand plus year in the past. Also we found information on medicine than killed people instead of saving them back then, as well as classroom setti gs, miniature parks and wear. A really amazing experience for a museum. Recommended.

Later, the Edo period replica of rural life and mukashibanashi was a lot of fun -- again, thanks to a kind guide who made sure I noticed the stories in the arrangements. Finally, the school room replica of the second world war situation was emotionally gripping, and ranged from school indoctination to the atomic bombing. Thankfully, there was some hopeful childrens artwork on a wall nearby that brought a few tears of joy!

It was a very bad experience. We are not allowed to eat peaches directly in the garden, we are served crushed peaches with low sweetness. I think it's fallen peaches from the garden. Extremely bad quality. We were really disappointed and angry, it felt like we were cheated.

Hōraiken Main Shop is a long-standing traditional noodle house known for its standard ramen dishes, dumplings, and fried rice. The flavorful simple shoyu base ramen evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of enjoying ramen with loved ones in a small town local gem. The chashu and homemade gyoza are particularly noteworthy, offering equally delightful options alongside the renowned Shoyu Ramen.

Ramen Yoshi is a delightful ramen haven that captivates diners with its exceptional homemade noodles and flavorful broth. Renowned for its hearty soup crafted without artificial seasonings, this eatery has won over many who typically shy away from finishing their soup due to dietary concerns. The special miso ramen offers a harmonious blend of sweet and sour notes, complemented by a hint of ginger's bitterness, creating a gentle yet satisfying experience.
(Translated by Google) A lot of attention has been paid to both the exterior and interior. The parking lot is located in front of the store and a little further away, next to the dentist. I've had the light soy sauce ramen with chicken char siu and the special miso, and both were so delicious that you could drink up the soup! (The photo shows special miso) The ramen is made with natural ingredients, and the chicken chashu ramen in particular is made to be enjoyed by people who are concerned about calories. They also have salt ramen, tsukemen, and mini bowls. The miso flavor contains garlic. This is a ramen shop that you should definitely visit! I was a little taken aback by the unique color scheme of the signboard and the interior of the store. The best part is that it is completely free of chemical seasonings (currently renamed umami seasonings). Light chicken soba soy sauce 900 yen Toppings include chicken char siu, chili pepper, chopped green onions, and white green onions. Lots of green onions. The soup is mild and has a umami-like flavor with no sharp edges. The noodles have a slightly low water content and are curly, making them firm but still retaining their elasticity. It's been a while since I've had noodles this curly. I don't feel guilty even if I finish the soup, but I don't think it's low in salt, so I didn't finish it. (Translated by Google) A restaurant where you can enjoy natural soup and handmade noodles. I visited you at noon. The parking lot is a little far away. At first glance, the exterior doesn't look like a ramen shop. The interior of the store has a new retro feel, and the chairs at the counter are made of resin with a space-age feel. I was guided to the counter and ordered soy sauce ramen. Water is self-service. Corona measures are also well taken. The soy sauce ramen soup has a good balance of seafood and animal flavors. The taste is amazing without any chemicals. The handmade noodles are also chewy and have a nice texture. If you sit at the counter, you must raise your bowl after finishing your meal. Next time, let's try miso. Thank you for the meal. Located in Kofu City, the soba noodle shop Kawada Okufuji Daini Bunten is conveniently close to Isawa Onsen Station. The "Yamanashi Prefectural Youth Center" bus stop served by Fujikyu Bus and Yamanashi Kotsu Bus is the nearest. This renowned eatery is not only famous for its delicious Yamanashi-style soba, but also for its delectable stewed chicken dishes.
Went here for dinner with 3 other friends, one of them are japanese, he said it’s the best soba he had so far too. They ordered chicken but I was lucky to have this really crunchy with soft-inside mushroom-tempura, bcs the chicken has liver/chicken heart that I don’t eat. Shosenkyo Gorge, located in Yamanashi, Japan, is a must-visit destination in autumn. This 1,250-square-kilometer area is part of the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park and offers stunning valleys, forested mountains, and charming rural towns. The gorge is famous for its breathtaking autumn foliage that explodes in vibrant shades of yellow, brown, orange, and red from early to mid-November.
We started our hike from Tenjinmori bus stop. Along the way, we were surrounded by trees that starting to turn red and yellow, with the sound of a river stream throughout the trail. Every part of the trail was scenic and it felt like you’d want to take a picture of everything. The trek itself was fairly easy since the path was paved. We took a ropeway to the summit for 1,400 yen (round trip). Unfortunately, it was cloudy that day, so we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji. However, the view from the top was still stunning. Do note that the trail at the summit is more challenging than the previous one, so make sure to wear appropriate shoes. We took a bus to go back to Tenjinmori.

Really nice hiking area with multiple lots of free parking. All of the main paths are paved so it is more like a walk rather than a hike. Their are also vending machines, restrooms and food stalls along the path. Best to arrive in the morning to beat most of the crowds. Also, there is a lot of construction on the way up and down the mountain, just be prepared.

I went on a rainy day in mid November, which is the perfect time to go because the autumn maple leaves look amazing! The hike could have been marked better with more English assistance, but otherwise it was pretty easy. The green line bus is reasonably priced, but comes about once an hour, so be careful about your return. I would highly recommend this hike!

Shōsenkyō Gorge as a whole is a beautiful and serene destination, easily accessed from Kofu. We arrived at Shōsenkyō Taki Ue on the local bus (IC card accepted) and commenced our adventure, starting with the ropeway, having lunch at a local soba shop and descending on foot through the gorge itself to the Greenline Shōsenkyō bus stop. The gorge hosts amazing scenery including Senga (Sengataki) Falls and a rushing river which runs parallel to the stone walkway. There is no entry fee required here, simply follow the path until you wish to exit. The route we took is fairly easy, and being downhill would be suitable for younger children.

Kanazakura Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine located above the picturesque Shosenkyo Gorge in Yamanashi. It is dedicated to the deity of Mount Kinpu and boasts a treasure house containing two polished quartz crystal balls. The shrine's sacred cherry blossom tree, Utsukinzakura, blooms with golden blossoms from late April to early May and has been celebrated in folk songs.
An incredibly beautiful place to be when the blossoms are blooming. There's even a mini hiking course that leads up to a small open spot to view Mt. Fuji. They also hold a spring festival right before Golden Week!

Kōfu Station

3.8
(871)
Train station
Kōfu Station, located in the ancient city of Kōfu in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, is a major transportation hub surrounded by picturesque mountains such as Mount Fuji and Mount Kai-koma. The station was built on the ruins of the old castle wall and is now adjacent to Maizuru Castle Park, home to the historic Maizuru Castle. The castle's original walls, dating back over 400 years, are considered a national treasure.
Good station, just stopped by to transit but the vending machines are everywhere. They have good trains here, the Azusa ones and the Kaiji Limited express are both very clean and spacious. The vibe is very premium as well. Comes with charger port, and all the standard great fittings of a green car and limited express train. Toilets are clean.

A big easy access station, it has a Yodobashi just right outside the South exit, it has lots of restaurant and places to buy souvenirs. Also has a lot of places to try wine.
Sake S — Google review
It’s a good station with different restaurants for quick bite and convenience stores for snacks before going to your destination for either travel, work or school.

Ok.
Arthur V — Google review
Convenient store, station building, bus terminal, etc you have everything you need around the station.
CH T — Google review
You won't get lost. Just follow the color coding of the trains. Its better though if there's an english translation. Anyway, what I did was to look up the place I want to go in google maps and then compared the Japanese characters with that on the map. Easily found it on the route map and paid my fare.

Visited on 15th Jan. 2019. Since this year is 500 Anniversary of Koufu opening. There is a short-term exhibition in the Koufu station. It tells lots of history, local things about Koufu. Especially the historical figure “Takeda Shingen”.

The Statue of Takeda Shingen is a significant tourist attraction in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It was built in 1919 to honor Takeda Shingen, a renowned samurai who played a crucial role during the Clan Wars era. The shrine stands on the remains of the fortified residence of the Takeda clan, adding to its historical importance.
During my early college years, I had to do a report on Takeda Shingen. I always love reading and watching both fictional and non-fictional accounts of his battles. The statue is right in the middle of Kofu city next to the train station. Plenty of near by parking and places to eat.

The statue of Takeda Shingen right in front of Kofu Station is impressively large and has a commanding presence, even more than I expected.

Hamburger restaurant
Mos Burger is a charming fast-food spot nestled next to Kofu-e, known for its inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. Although the space isn't large, it features comfortable counter seating equipped with charging outlets and USB ports, making it an ideal place to relax or work. The service here is exceptional; patrons are greeted with smiles and complimentary water with every order.
Nice service, this burger is limited edition, with cream cheese.

Is it unusual for fast food? If you request from here Of course, you can also get it at other stores... thank you What is the owner's hobby? Recommended books are available in the store I'm happy with this kind of service. It would be great if it was nearby Even if my neighbor Mr. Moss disappeared... The soy meat burger is the only vegetarian burger on the menu. Mine came with plenty of fresh lettuce and a slice of tomato. A decent burger if one can forgive the thousand island dressing. Appreciated that the lemon tea was totally unsweetened! Would be great if there are more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.

(Translated by Google) Use counter seats. There are charging outlets, USB power supply, and about 9 counter seats. It's a very attractive environment with chairs that don't get tired even if you sit for a long time, friendly and courteous customer service, a quiet and calm customer base, and stylish background music, so you don't get cold even by the window. Stores not suitable for wheelchairs. They provide trays and baskets so it's easy to eat while you work. If you don't have a set menu, you may have to wait for a while, but there is no menu outside the restaurant, so some people may be in a hurry to choose, but if you tell the staff that you would like to choose a few items, they will wait for you, so it's okay. . It's a good idea to prepare a slightly larger budget. Refills of hot coffee after the second cup only cost 100 yen, so it's perfect for coffee junkies.

Italian restaurant
Moriya Ekimae, an Italian restaurant located near the station, offers a wide variety of delicious pasta dishes. The large portion sizes and tasty flavors make it a popular choice among customers, especially during lunchtime on weekdays. The restaurant attracts many single diners and women. One unique feature is their menu names, which are inspired by a certain Sunday animation series. Their menu selection is abundant with options to suit every taste.
I come here all the time. Love the food and nice service too. Specialize in spaghetti only.

(Translated by Google) There was a new item on the lunch menu, so I got the cherry blossoms! The flavor of cherry shrimp, the faint aroma of green perilla, the taste of raw whitebait, the chewy texture of the mentaiko sauce, and the thickly sliced garlic and cabbage add even more texture to the dish, making it extremely delicious😋 The noodles seem to have been boiled a little longer than al dente, but the texture is on the chewy side. Best of all, it's filling and filling ☺️ It just says that I want to eat my fill 😁 I left behind the famous Japan's best cream soda...💦 (Original)

(Translated by Google) There are 20 seats, and because coffee is included with lunch, waiting times tend to be a little longer, resulting in a queue. A regular portion is 150g of dried noodles, and a large portion is 250g, so a regular portion is enough for 1.5 people, and is quite filling. The menu changes with the seasons, but I had the classic Neapolitan. It was packed with fresh tomatoes and other vegetables, and had a strong flavor that was very delicious.
