It's notoriously difficult to secure reservations at this establishment, which has skilled chefs crafting authentic and innovative sushi delicacies. Founded by the legendary chef Keiji Nakazawa in 1989, it pioneered a distinctive omakase style that offers side dishes before nigiri sushi.
Local, Craft, Authentic Japanese food. I came across this restaurant after Tokyo marathon day 2025 from the reviews in Yotsuya area. They haven’t give us the menu and only serve Chirashi Don for lunch set. It’s awesome. They use quality and fresh ingredient. Strongly recommended!!

Could get a reservation for dinner so we decide to drop by for lunch. Sushi sho is an Tokyo institution. Specialized in the craft of perfectly aging their fish. Great value for their Barr’s Chirashi Bowl for lunch, do drop by here early as the bowl as limited for the day. Huge chunks of perfectly marinated fish, probably 10 different varieties in my bowl. Topped over a fragrant umami rich rice. Can’t t ally beat this at ¥2000. Lunch is only available on Mondays, Wednesday and Friday. And very limited bowls so be sure to head down early. They only serve Barra chirashi for lunch so there’s no need to even order. Just show up and enjoy perfection in a bowl.

Went there for the 2k lunch. Good but nothing outstanding from service to food. Taste is mild from raw fish, rice to soup. Like Kansai style. Tea is piping hot and taste is very mild too which is no good. They make reservation in 30 minutes slot. Good enough in a fast food mood lunch. I had the good fortune of lucking into a dinner slot without an advanced reservation. The Omakase course was fantastic, consisting of 20-30 individual, unique bites, each a work of art. I highly recommend Sushi-sho, although you will need advanced reservations and should plan to be there for around 2 hours.

You know, all my life I was waiting to actually try sushi from a real chef from Tokyo. I couldn't have imagined the difference between sushis in Tokyo and in North America or even Europe. We picked sushi-sho because it was one of the top rated by tokyo people and also because the concierge of our hotel recommended it. It was simply amazing. A very small shop, lost in a building. The chef and his chef greeted us when we arrived. and, we assumed, since we were white, we sat with the sous chef that had a very good english (not so sure about the main chef). What a delight! We had around 30 different kind of sushis, sashimis, seafood or specialties and it was simply incredible. The chef looked at us every time we had a bit, to make sure we were happy. The sake was amazing and surprisingly, very cheap. I would definitely go again. Thanks to the amazing staff!

I finally managed to try Midori sushi! As the que is always long, I had prob high expectation. Each sashimi was cut way too thick and big. I assume many people like this way, but I personally prefer thinner and not that big. We got katsuo in the end, but the color was weird in two different colors inside and outside. We asked to get new one but it was disappointing they actually provided us that low quality one first. Not going back.

So good I went twice! Daisuke is a wonderful sushi master and host. You’ll find that many people come here from word of mouth. Recommendations from other friends around the world. You can now add me to that list of advocates. This is an omakase restaurant so you’ll be served by Daisuke himself over multiple courses… who will make his way around the 12 seats or so. There are a couple of private rooms I believe, but the counter is where I’d recommend you sit. You’ll then get to interact with Daisuke and the other patrons. As for the food, all of it is fresh from that morning with every single piece and course being better than the last. The core items (like tuna) will remain the same but they will mix it up depending on what is fresh that day. The drinks menu is Japanese and thorough… no menu per se, so just ask. I had beer, whisky high ball and hot sake… all good! Price wise… it’s omakase so not cheap. With the number of courses, the quality and the service I’d still consider it great value. I’ll return when I’m next back in Tokyo!!!

We came here on a recommendation from a friend and were so glad we did - this is the best omakase we had on our trip and the most delicious sushi we've ever had. There is a LOT of food, so please come hungry. The staff is all very friendly and fluent in English, so they took time to explain all the dishes and origins. The highlight was definitely the tuna prepared four ways from leanest to fattiest - super delicious and so interesting to learn a bit more about tuna! *Unfortunately, we came here after a horrible case of food poisoning a few days ago and were just recovering - this was actually the first post-food poisoning meal we could have and I was still feeling a touch nauseous so I wasn't able to eat a much as I normally do, which I felt super badly about (so sorry, chefs!). However, they were very kind about it and made smaller sushi bites for me (as you can see in photos). This just means we will NEED to come back next time we are in Tokyo!

I’m aware that there are better and more expensive omakase places, but I really enjoy the whole experience here. I like the diversity of the sushi they have here, and the tuna and yam was interesting. The owner is really attentive and friendly. We came as a group of 3, when I said I would like no wasabi and one of my friends said he wanted less wasabi, the chef immediately made it accordingly. The overall experience is great, and it’s definitely a must try if you like omakase. Reservation (can be weeks in advance) is a must.

Loved the fresh ingredients and friendly service. It is not a quiet restaurant so if you are looking for an intimate peaceful experience (date or business), it could be a little bit distracting. Will come back for more.

The best eatery in a small neighbourhood. The omakase was excellent. I especially love the saba, meguro, and unagi nigiri! A small sushi spot with mostly counter seating and 3 tables that seat 4, it appeared that they mostly offer omakase style (chef's choice) dinner, though you can ask for items ala carte, as well as informing them of items you don't like or want. My spouse speaks Japanese, so our party of 4 relied on her linguistic skills. Everything we had was delicious, even the stuff that we might bot have ordered otherwise (like the small baby fish, for example). We all also liked that it wasn't just sushi and sashimi being served, but the dining experience was interspersed with cooked items. We didn't know how the ambiance and dress code was going to be, but we noticed one person wearing a backward hat and shorts, so casual wear seems acceptable. It was not the super quiet sushi places we had been before, and I enjoyed being able to chat with our friends without having to speak in a hushed voice. At the end of the "set omakase", they will ask if you want to continue (aka are you still hungry). Anything else you want will be an extra charge.

Beautiful omakase with two options that can be made gluten free. As a celiac girl it can feel very intimidating in Japan to feel safe. They did an amazing job. If you have the gluten free card make sure to show to them and feel free to check in with them during eat round of omakase as they drop the plate for extra safety. I did eat the fish roe - though it looked significantly different than the one my friend had but I did not ask about it specifically when it came- though there may have been a bit of cross contamination as I’m feel quite bloated - not full on sick though. UPDATE: not feeling great. Has progressed from bloated to nausea, hot flashes, headache etc. while the meal was delish…MAKE SURE TO CHECK IN EACH COURSE. Without reservation, we waited no more than 15' our turn, and seated in front of the chef, seeing how the sushi was made !! Fast food sushi, with options for ramen, curry rice, tempura, and other various typical Japanese fare. It's only fast if you hit it at the right time (otherwise you will wait 30-40 minutes . . . ). Sometimes even if you get seated you may wait 10 minutes for your ordered sushi to arrive on the conveyor. (I say this only because I live nearby and eat here a couple times a week usually . . . if it's 18:00, or any "normal" meal time, it won't be fast.) The quality is usually fine - basic, nothing that particularly melts in your mouth, but solid. Not a fan of their eel offerings. Love the pickled mackerel and the yaki salmon with cheese, but that's me. :) Screens have the option for English, which makes it super easy if you don't read Japanese. Also has boxed sushi you can order and pick up to go. Sometimes there is a wait for that too.

The izakaya establishment, SUGIDAMAKagurazaka, offers a pleasant environment. It provides an essential atmosphere for a summer afternoon in the Kagurazaka area. Additionally, it caters well to those on an alcohol-free diet and complements their sushi set. One cannot overlook the exceptional Kani croquette as it perfectly embodies the culinary experience of the place.
Today we visited Kagurazaka in Shinjuku for the first time, stopped by this sushi restaurant because the lunch set looked great and the price is cheap. We were quite happy with the quality and taste. Would recommend for budget friendly sushi lover, don’t forget to try their lunch set.

There are a lot of different conveyor belt (also known as kaiten) sushi restaurants in Japan, but this particular chain is easily my favorite. The prices are very reasonable, they run daily specials, and each location seems to vary a bit from the other. Typical price is 100 yen for 2 pieces of sushi. Serve yourself from the belt and make some complementary hot green tea. The chefs will also make sushi to order. Don't forget to say "okaikei wo onegaishimasu" to indicate you are done eating and would like your bill.

I went there on 25/02/2025 and the food was amazing even though we were the last customers for the night. We're from Australia and could only speak english but chef was still very nice to us and explained the dishes as best as he could in both languages. We met other customers as we were early and they were also really friendly and helped with translations. Great experience and would definitely come back. Just make sure to book early!

The price was quite reasonable and the food was good not unforgettable, but still enjoyable. I tried about 10 dishes from the sushi and sashimi menu. Overall, they were decent, but nothing really stood out — it felt more like a regular sushi place than something special. I found this place in the Michelin Guide and was very excited to try it. What I love about omakase is not only the food but the overall experience being close to the chef, watching each dish being prepared, and learning about what you’re eating. Last night, as soon as we walked in, we got a not-so-welcoming vibe, and unfortunately, that feeling lasted the entire hour we were there. Each dish was served to us without a single word, so we had no idea what we were eating. The chef ignored us completely and spent the whole time talking in Japanese to other customers. The odd thing is that he clearly understood some English, because on a few occasions when we asked something through the English-speaking server, he understood and assisted her. That made it clear that the lack of interaction wasn’t about language, but rather a choice. Overall, while the food itself was good, I wouldn’t recommend this omakase to non-Japanese speakers who are looking for a more engaging and welcoming experience.

Amazing Omakase experience, everything from the food to the service was perfect. This restaurant only seats around 7 people so it was in a very intimate setting. The meal starts with various small dishes, which were all amazing, and completes with several pieces of nigiri. What made his sushi stand out is his knife techniques, it was amazing just watching him scoring and cutting the fish. The end result was extremely tender fish that practically melts in your mouth. This is easily the best meal I’ve had in Tokyo and I can’t wait to come back here in the future.

Sushi Hikari is the best Traditional Japanese Omakase style I have ever had before. It located in a quiet residential area; therefore, I was able to enjoy every single pieces of sushi. I highly recommend this place!

鮓処ひろ志は特別な場所です。We've been eating sushi with current owner and sushi chef of Sushidokoro Hiroshi for 21+ years and I have been lucky enough to be able to enjoy it since I was a baby! Every time I have visited Tokyo, eating Chef Hiroshi's sushi has been one of the greatest highlights of the entire trip. I truly look forward to eating sushi at this specific restaurant all year long, and in this case, for each of the three years I haven't been in the country. Eat here for a truly authentic Tokyo sushi experience. What is most remarkable about Chef Hiroshi is his attention to detail and ability to make all customers feel like they're at home. The rest of the staff is essential and works hard without a doubt. There is another sushi chef who I am sure is excellent and has been working with Hiroshi for a long time, but I have never eaten with him. Every slice of Hiroshi's sashimi and piece of sushi is, without exaggeration, a piece of art from its presentation to its delicate flavors. His skill with the knife and ability to put together ingredients in just the right manner is one thing, but his professionalism and sense of service are unmatched. I only come to eat here once a year at the very most and the place is always busy with customers, yet still, every time we go, we feel as though we are special customers. There is no doubt in my mind that all customers feel a special connection to this place. My grandfather had passed away a couple of years ago. Because of COVID, we haven't been to Japan and my family hadn't been to the restaurant in 3 years. This little mom and pop shop serves up fantastic sushi! Seating was limited so the three of us were very lucky to get a seat. The menu is small but has everything for an amazing meal. The chirashi set has two options - one with cheaper cuts and another with more superior cuts. The sushi set has three options of cuts. We had a superior chirashi set, a mid and a superior sushi set. Each set was served with chawanmushi and the meal ended with a warm green tea. Everything was made with delicate precision. All of it was fresh with subtlely complex flavours. Each sushi was perfectly balanced with the generous portions of fish and just the right amount of rice and wasabi. The lady was really caring and warned our 11 year old daughter of the chawanmushi being hot when it was served. She also asked if wasabi was ok. Our daughter completely demolished the sushi set, suprising the owners. My wife spoke enough Japanese to have a conversation with the owners and they were so friendly! They had genuine curiosity in where we were from, our travels, and what life was like in our country. We had an amazing time chatting with them. They were masters at hospitality. Probably one of the best meal experiences we've ever had. The owners made you feel right at home.

Flat out one of the best sushi experiences in Japan. Super high value. I don’t even want to leave a good review in case it attracts too many people but it would be an injustice not to. It’s the best value sushi in Tokyo that I’ve tried. One interesting thing here is they grate fresh wasabi and don’t use the powder mush version which is amazing. The dining experience at Sushi Tetsuya in Tokyo was exceptional. The cuisine, service, and ambiance were all outstanding. The chef and host provided excellent explanations of the dishes and showed great hospitality. It was a delightful evening with delicious food. Naoko and Tetsuya, the hosts, displayed genuine passion for their work and took great care of their guests. This fine dining establishment offers an Omakase menu that guarantees top-notch quality and freshness in every dish.
We came as a group of 4 with 2 kids aged 11 and 8. We truly have a wonderful experience of omakase with such good food, nihonshu and service from both chef and staff. Our kids, like the others, sometimes could be picky on food, but they ate as much as an adult and they enjoyed as much as an adult. Since we are from Hong Kong and can’t really speak Japanese, with a staff (too bad we didn’t ask her for the name) who knows and eagerly explain every food we ate and wine we drank in English, made us fully appreciate what we were having. We were lucky to taste all 3 Alamasa R, S and X type. They were served fresh and tasted very balanced. Food wise were unbeatable. I myself didn’t really fancy on maguro because of the metallic taste, but they didn’t taste any as the staff said they won’t serve frozen one. Same as the ikura, they only serve the fresh one. We all had such a wonderful evening, and thanks to the chef and the staff, we definitely would come back and also highly recommend to our friends who love to eat and drink. It worths every penny. The food was exceptional, particularly the uni (sea urchin) which was surprisingly enjoyable for someone not typically fond of it. The uni had a delicate sweetness and creaminess without being overly salty.
My wife and I came for the dinner omakase. The first thing that stood out is how modern the interior is and how spacious the washrooms are in comparison to some other restaurants in the Tokyo area. Although not fluent in English, the chef made every effort to converse with us and provided explanation for each dish served. The food was phenomenal and I can say enough about the uni. I am not typically an uni person and give mine to the wife; however, to my wife's disappointment I really enjoyed the the uni. It wasn't too briny and was very sweet and creamy. Overall, I found the experience spectacular especially considering I would be paying more than double back in Canada for a less rewarding experience. I'll be sure to come back and visit.
