Roadside Station Mizube-no-sato Oyama is a delightful stop for travelers exploring the scenic beauty of Hita. Nestled near a picturesque river, this charming roadside station offers a unique blend of local culture and entertainment. One of its standout features is the Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) Museum, which draws in fans with free admission and an array of memorabilia available for purchase.
It is a cozy little farmers market with a couple of vendors and a museum for the attack on titan author. I enjoyed some of the food and drinks and got some honey and plums from the farmers market.
Kris H — Google review
Lots of stuff and many food stalls too. There is also the musuem of The famous manga Attack of the Titan
Ish J — Google review
One of the most memorables roadside stations we have visited, mainly because of the Attack on Titan museum (free admission) and some of their AoT memorabilia sold at the shop, other than that you will find your usual stuff that you find at the stops, if you are driving you are very close to the dam with the AoT statues which makes for a nice stop if you are already around the area.
Leo — Google review
This houses the Shingeki no Kyojin in Hita Museum, which is a must-see for fans. It is a nice rest area near the scenic river that families / groups can enjoy, and there are various food stalls to choose from. The farmers' market sells fresh produce and products from Oyama and Hita, as well as Shingeki merchandise.
Malou M — Google review
A good stop if you're driving around Hita. It has food stalls and a decent shopping area. There's also a museum for the fans of Attack on Titan.

Museum
Must visit for Attack on Titan fans! The entrance is now 500 yen/person. You get to see the original manga panels with Hajime Isayama's commentaries along with some titans, his work station, and his life growing up. We rented a driver/car taxi via the Hita Tourism Office to get to the museum and dam for 13200Y for 2 people. There was no time limit or schedule so we were able go immediately and take our time with every stop.
Skye P — Google review
It was soooooo cool to get to go to this place! You can buy specialty tickets to get access to this place and the Annex Museum. Ticketing is super easy—you just use the ticket machine at the front. The entrance to the museum is at the back of a little grocery store. You get to see cool figurines, as well as Isayama’s desk that he used. His father, a furniture maker, had it custom made. For anyone who would rather hire a taxi instead of relying on the bus, here was my itinerary and approximate costs: From the train station, I hailed a taxi to take me to the dam. I took about 15 min to get to the statue and take photos. From there, we went to the main museum, which is about a 10 min drive. It took about 40 min to go through the museum. From there, we went to the annex museum. Then, I asked to be dropped off at a restaurant in town. All in all, the taxi fee was about ¥13,300. Highly recommend to use a taxi if you don’t want to be pressed for time.
Elaine V — Google review
I went there because it was called the Attack on Titan Museum. It wasn't what I expected. It seemed like a place that told the story of how the author created Attack on Titan. There weren't any merchandise items, like figures, so it wasn't as good as I expected.
Google review
There is entry fee to enter. There are huge figures when you enter. As you go to next room, it was filled with original manga panels of important scenes and sketches. It was amazing to see the desk and past childhood artwork on Isayama. A small museum for a quick stop. The next door local market sells some AOT goods and local products. Great way to promo Hita.
Cinnamon D — Google review
[20241113] Of course a must-visit for fans. Take note that the other Annex Museum is 20min away by bus (which is very infrequent). Plan your itinerary carefully if you also want to visit the dam. Fyi, you can call for a taxi from this Main Museum to the dam (~5min), ask him to wait for you while taking pictures, and back to the bus stop for ~3100yen.
Azreen A — Google review
As AOT fans, this is a must visit! You can buy tickets to access both museums which was a great deal. Definitely worth a visit for those who enjoyed AOT.
Melanne T — Google review
Definitely a must go place for AOT fans. Although the driving was kind of hectic, it's still worth it. I don't want to spoil that much so please come and visit. Shinzou wo sasageyo!
Kevin L — Google review
Besides the difficulty of reaching there (we rented a car), this museum of free entrance was great. It includes some fun photo ops (the broken Wall Titan wall was a highlight), Isayama's own desk where he wrote the manga, and many original panels. Also a small gift shop is attached, which mostly sells food with AOT branded packaging.

Kizan Park is a serene green space surrounded by trees and featuring picturesque walking paths, river vistas, and an ancient Shinto shrine. The park offers amenities such as playgrounds for kids, swings for infants, restrooms, and a parking lot. Visitors can also hike up the small mountain to explore the historic shrine. However, it is advised to stay hydrated during summer months as Hita City experiences high temperatures.

Very clean and calm place. Good to take a walk around with beautiful water sound. Not too far from Hita station. Especially in summer season(May-Oct.) you can enjoy dinner on the boat and Ukai, Japanese traditional fishing with a bird performance. Necessarily to make a reservation at hotels next to the park.

There were many residents walking their dogs in the morning. Even though I'm a foreigner, many greeted me with a "hayo" whenever I passed them, and the overall feel of the residents was relaxed and friendly. If you're visiting Hita, I recommend visiting the Mikumi River and this park, in addition to Mamemadamachi. You can walk along the river or climb a small hill. The houses along the river are all beautiful. Mamedamachi Shopping Street is a charming and traditional area, often likened to 'little Kyoto' for its antique and traditional atmosphere. Take-out is also popular, so be prepared to take some time to eat depending on the time of day. Ramen was average. Next time I'll try the pork kimchi. (Translated by Google) I went there because I heard that locals also go there. The inside of the store was small, probably recently renovated, but it was clean. There are only 2 tables for 4 people and a counter. Corona measures such as partitions are being taken properly. I guess it's run by a husband and wife. Hmm, the crispness was good, but I couldn't really taste the sauce. I wonder if it was overcooked and the flavor was lost. Personally, my favorite Hita yakisoba is Tenryu. The gyoza was also crispy, but nothing special about it. Hita Yakisoba 750- Gyoza 500- The fried rice looked delicious. You can add as much pickled ginger as you want. Parking is available at the nearby Mamedamachi free parking lot. It's a 3-5 minute walk to the store. Accounting is cash only.

(Translated by Google) I visited the store, but there was no greeting, and at first I thought it was an unwelcoming atmosphere for foreign tourists. However, after reading the reviews, I realized that this was the standard customer service attitude. It took a while to meet the elderly woman, and even when our eyes met, the male staff member didn't say anything in particular, which made me wonder if she was unable to speak. She didn't seem to be in very good health, so I thought it would be better for her to focus on her recovery a little more.

(Translated by Google) I visited for lunch on a weekday. I feel that the number of tourists in Hita is increasing little by little. It was good. I ordered a yakisoba set meal. It's a great deal for 1,000 yen, which includes rice, gyoza, and miso soup. The noodles are boiled and stir-fried after you order them, so they're freshly made. However, the piping hot feeling was not good enough. The cost performance is good. It's delicious. I'm giving it 4 stars because I have a personal taste, but I think it's good because it's located in Mameda Town and it's convenient. Although the store is small, it is kept clean.

Unagi restaurant
Hita Mabushi Senya is a renowned eel restaurant located in Hita old town, offering deliciously seasoned unagi with grated yuzu condiment. Despite some ventilation issues, the food is well worth the wait. Visitors praise the tender unagi prepared in four different ways and recommend trying the unagi rice box. While some find it slightly expensive, others appreciate its reasonable pricing and friendly staff.
Amazing restaurant! The unagi had a more charred and barbecue-y flavor which was great. The unagi was sliced thinly so that you could really try each soice with a different combination of toppings. The toppings they had were interesting and really changed the taste of the unagi. I wasn’t really a fan of the eel liver soup, a bit too fishy for me. We had to wait around 5-10 minutes for a table but not a big deal. Amazing service and great place. Highly recommend!

Good place to have eel. They do have eel prepared in different ways. But there's confusion in the English menu..so we ended up ordering side dishes without rice (even though menu stated it comes with rice). The portions of the 2 eel dishes we ordered were small and we also had to order a bowl of rice separately. But the atmosphere is good and the staff are pretty helpful. Thankfully they have a staff who speaks in English to help us 😁

This is super good!! Highly recommended if you visit Hita. Ordered the Unagi bowl - The dish come with sauce, eel liver soup, ochazuke soup, and several condiments (scallions/wasabi/yuzu kosho/daikon) and it all goes together well. The ochazuke style was really good too. The flavor is very balance and clean. This is the best ochazuke style I have tried. The place is super popular so you would need to come and register for a queue first. (I came at 10.30 and get into the restaurant from when it opened) The dish was 3800 yen in total. I'm very satisfied 🤤

We stopped by here on the way from Beppu to Fukuoka. It was just a short detour. We were there for lunch, and had to wait for about 30 minutes. The food was definitely worth the wait. The unagi was well seasoned and we especially loved the grated yuzu condiment to go with. Only complaint is that the ventilation isn’t great, and it was rather stuffy inside.

Amazing unagi and a unique way of eating. The unagi is very delicious, some of the best I’ve ever had. They offer set meals and they have a recommended way of eating their unagi. They provide 大根おろし (grated daikon), 柚子胡椒 (yuzu pepper), わさび (wasabi), ネギ (green onions), and 出汁 (dashi). With these ingredients you can freely add them to your unagi bowl. But, save the wasabi, green onions and dashi for お茶漬け to finish your meal. Very delicious.

Happen to be at HITA area for a stop over driving from Beppu to Fukuoka. Found this top rate Unagi resturant. I would still say Man Man Unagi in Singapore is the best Unagi I ever had but this came very close and it was much cheaper. A must try if you are in the area

Unagi rice box is great. They slide fish in small pieces. I like it. If you pass this Hita city, don't forget to visit this restaurant.
Arnon R — Google review
It is wise to go there when they are just open or else you have to wait for at least 30 minutes. Severely understaffed. The grilled eels were just perfect - remarkable freshness, firm and chewy texture, nice grilled-mark, delicious taste, and appealing charcoal aroma. Though the food wasn’t cheap at all, it was worth every penny!

Yakisoba Restaurant
Chinese noodle restaurant
Sofuren Oyamaten is a yakisoba restaurant known for its exquisite and crispy texture of the noodles. The unique texture is attributed to the high heat used in cooking, making it difficult to replicate at home. Despite being a bit pricey, the simple ingredients like bean sprouts, cubed pork, and green onions contribute to its delicious flavor. The restaurant has a nice old feel and offers good customer service, providing a relaxing space for visitors.
I went there because I heard the author of "Attack on Titan" worked there in high school. The portions are really generous. You can eat a lot even if you order just a little.

Yakisoba is delicious (just like everybody says). The taste is not too salty and the texture is a little bit crunchy. The service is fast. Price is fair. I would like to visit again 👍🏻 And yes, Mr. isayama had part-time job here when he was younger. This shop has his signature painting on the wall.

(Translated by Google) This is my first time eating yakisoba while going back and forth to Japan, and it's delicious! I ordered a small portion of rice because I thought it might be a little too small for the regular size, but the portion is huge. I didn't eat breakfast, so I barely managed to finish it. The portion is large, but it was delicious and I didn't get tired of it. I didn't know that there was a rice and yakisoba set, so when I paid, the owner made it a set, so it was a little cheaper. They don't seem to sell drinks separately, but there's a vending machine right in front of the store! The owner was kind, and the food came out quickly. I recommend it if you come to the museum and have lunch.

(Translated by Google) I visited for a weekday lunch in July 2025. The parking lot is next to the store, and if it is full, there is a parking lot at the roadside station, so you should be able to find a parking spot. The store is not very large, with a few counter seats, four tables, and two raised seats. It is a popular store because it is the store where the author of Attack on Titan worked part-time when he was in high school! ! I arrived before 12 o'clock on this day, so the store was empty, but by around 12 o'clock it was full. The only thing on the menu is yakisoba lol It was shortly after opening that day, so the yakisoba was well-grilled and crispy. I added mayonnaise as a topping, but two packets of Kewpie mayonnaise came with it lol Hmm... Even if it was Kewpie mayonnaise, I wish they had at least poured it in the kitchen before bringing it to me...

The noodles at the Oyama store are a little less crispy and have plenty of meat! Plenty of bean sprouts too! It has a gentle taste. Even the takeout was delicious. You will be healed by the smile of the lady! How to avoid crowds Phone ordering and takeout is still good. (Translated by Google) This Sofukoi chain restaurant serves Hita Yakisoba, a local Hita delicacy, and has locations not only in Oita and Kyushu, but also in the Kanto and Tokai regions. I'd seen several locations there while driving through Hita, so I'd been curious about it. The Oyama branch is located next to the Mizube no Sato Oyama Roadside Station. I arrived around 14:15, 15 minutes before last order, and even though it was a Sunday, I was fortunate to find a counter seat available. (How lucky! ✌️ On weekends, the restaurant is so busy they have to put out the books, and there was a sign inside saying that on busy days it takes about 30 minutes to cook the food.) I ordered a large serving of yakisoba. The hot plate was right in front of me, so I waited while watching the previous customer's order being cooked. Their skill with the iron was amazing! The sound of the iron hitting the hot plate and the aroma of the sauce were so pleasant I couldn't help but stare. In the meantime, my yakisoba arrived. There was a large portion on the menu, so I thought the extra-large size would be a bit much, but it was actually quite filling! 😋 The noodles were crispy and the sour and spicy sauce was delicious! 😋 The bean sprouts and green onions were crunchy, and the pork was filled with thick cubes of loin and fillet in addition to the standard pork belly, making for a very filling meal! The yakisoba was perfectly cooked and the sauce was light, so I didn't feel bloated even after eating my fill! The retro interior and the friendly staff made for a comfortable dining experience. I looked into it and found out there's a Sofukoi in Yokohama, so I'd like to go there next time! Thanks for the meal!
