Aoi Aso Shrine, located in the charming town of Hitoyoshi in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, is a serene complex of Shinto shrines with traditional thatched roofs and intricate carvings. Dedicated to the ancestral deity of the Aso family, the shrine holds great cultural and spiritual significance in the region as it venerates the god of agriculture and fertility.
A must-visit in Hitoyoshi City. A very beautiful, well-maintained shrine.
Jess L — Google review
Apparently quite a famous and old shrine. We waited about 15 minutes to pray on Jan 5. There's a modern little museum attached for an extra ¥500. There are toilets as well. The thatched roof is interesting.
Douglas A — Google review
Visited on a scorching summer weekend — the heat was intense. There were a few tourists around, most came to pray quickly and left right after. I didn’t stay long either, just enough time to take some photos. The shrine has a beautiful traditional structure, with a unique thatched roof (like woven hay — not something you see every day!) and a striking red torii gate at the entrance. It feels historic and sacred, even in the heat. Would love to come back when it’s cooler to take my time exploring.

Nice shrine. Great pond and lotus plants in front. Nice bridge photo moment.

Hitoyoshi Railroad Museum MOZOCA Station 868 is a charming attraction located in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. This museum offers a delightful experience for families with young children, featuring a variety of train-related activities and exhibits. Visitors can enjoy the excitement of riding an electric mini-train that travels through the building, as well as engaging in other activities such as operating toy crossing gates and pedaling a trike on rails upstairs.
Super cool little train museum/park aimed at small children. We took the excursion steam train down from Kumamoto. The kids were in train overload :-) They have an awesome little electric mini-train you can pay to ride that drives right through the middle of the building. Our kids kept hanging out waiting for it to come "back to the station" so they could work the toy crossing gates. There are a few activities to keep them occupied including a pedal trike on rails upstairs.

CHOBIT is a compact art museum that offers free admission and allows visitors to manually operate the visitor counter. Located on Blacksmith Town Street, it was selected as one of the "Kumamoto History Town 50" in 2013. This museum holds a Natsume's shadow exhibition during evening hours, which adds a touch of beauty and elegance to the experience. It would be great if there could be an expansion of this exhibition time.

History Museums
Hitoyoshi Castle History Museum offers a deep dive into the local culture and heritage, providing insights into the region's history. The museum is currently under renovation due to flood damage, but visitors can still access the location to obtain a commemorative medal for the 100-name castle. Although the entire memorial hall is closed, guests can open sliding doors themselves and explore. The castle tower is also inaccessible at this time due to ongoing construction of the castle wall.
(Translated by Google) The long-awaited reopening has arrived! The exhibits are easy to navigate and incredibly beautiful. The number of interactive areas has increased, making it enjoyable for everyone. Watch the castle's history on the large-screen theater, touch excavated ceramic fragments, stack stone wall blocks, wear armor, and hold a sword. The explanations are so easy to understand that even elementary school history buffs should be able to follow them. The "Mysterious Basement" is definitely worth mentioning. (Note: This tour is only available with a staff member.) The staff's explanations made it feel like we were on location for "World's Mysteries!", and I had a thrilling and incredibly enjoyable time. ^_^ Entering the museum, you can smell the fresh wood. And if you look closely at the pillars, you can see traces of water damage from the flood in some places.

(Translated by Google) Located in the center of Hitoyoshi City, next to Hitoyoshi Castle, there is also free parking. The stamp for Japan's 100 Famous Castles can be found immediately to the left as you enter the entrance. There is an admission fee of 330 yen, but the exhibits inside are well worth the price, so I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Hitoyoshi City's history and culture or Hitoyoshi Castle. The diorama of Hitoyoshi Castle and the video introducing the castle on the screen are eye-catching. The video in particular is dramatic and entertaining. The palanquin on display is also impressive and beautifully constructed. But the highlight is the mysterious basement! These mysterious underground ruins were discovered on the site of Sagara Zenbei's residence in the early Edo period. They are incredibly well-constructed, and it's easy to imagine what their purpose was. The explanations given by the staff who accompany you are also fascinating. This is a facility I highly recommend if you visit Hitoyoshi. I don't know why the parking lot is a little far away, but I think it would be good to build a general parking lot closer to the facility for people other than buses. When you enter the main hall, there is a ghost hanging scroll on the left. Enter the main hall, go down the passage on the right, go down the stairs, enter the mansion next door, and go to the left to see the ``Pond that seems to be haunted''. I prepared some coins and put them in for charity. Also, the madam of the temple answered the phone calls, the young lady showed us how to get to the pond, and the chief priest was also very kind. In addition, you should definitely watch the information video on the left side of the main hall. After seeing that, I went to donate money again. I stopped by on a whim, but I'm glad I went. Rather than returning to Kagoshima by express bus from Kagoshima, it might be better to go up to Shin-Yatsushiro or somewhere similar. According to the guidebook, you won't be able to catch the Hibiscus bus departing at night. You won't make the 12:00 PM bus. If you've read the "Dan Doon" chapter, I recommend going there. The station features an impressive crafts center offering various workshops for hands-on experiences with different materials, making it perfect for all ages. A lovely shop showcases unique items to take home as souvenirs.
Very nice crafts center! Workshops to work with all kinds of material and a great little shop with cute items to buy. Theres also a great spot to get a panoramic view of the area up the little tower in the back!

When making a reservation over the phone, customers were provided with helpful instructions upon entering the restaurant and received exceptionally polite service. The staff, particularly one older sister who took orders, may not have appeared typical of a clerk but exuded a friendly demeanor which put patrons at ease. The food served was all delectable and the ambiance of the establishment was pleasant. Moreover, the menu offered reasonably priced options, making it an enticing choice for lunch in the future.

(Translated by Google) I stopped by for dinner as I was staying at a nearby hotel for work.As for customer service, I was first shown to a tatami room, but I have a chronic illness or should I say lower back pain...I had to travel by car for a long time, so if I could, I would use a sunken kotatsu. When I asked him about it, he didn't look very kind...Even when I saw the staff checking on him, he gave me a sour look...I guess it can't be helped since you can't tell from his appearance that he has back pain. When I saw it, it was almost empty, so I was hoping that I could do it, but rather than being guided to the counter with a smile, I was able to spend my time reluctantly! As for the prices, I guess the fish is expensive at this time of year due to the typhoon, and there were several items at market prices! When it comes to customer service and food...Personally, I felt it was rather expensive this time. I'm glad that the storefront and interior are spacious☆... As for the food, the sashimi was fresh and delicious 😋 Because it's made directly from the fish tank ❣️ The tempura platter is average. When it comes to tuna sushi, there are tendons and it comes in just one piece. . As for the miso soup, it was red, but Mitsuba was dry. . As for the alcohol, I ordered a dry sake, but personally, the lineup was sweet. I only come to Hitoyoshi a few times a year for work, so finding a place to eat is something I look forward to 🥰, so this was my first non-chain restaurant, and it was a bittersweet debut lol. Unagi restaurant
Uemura Unagi-ya is a long-standing restaurant known for its charcoal-grilled eel and rice bowls served in a traditional setting. Despite its popularity, the spacious eatery can accommodate up to 60-80 people. Visitors praise the classical ambiance and generous portions of food, making it a worthwhile dining destination. Guests have raved about the perfectly grilled eel with delicious sauce over steamed rice, as well as the crunchy deep-fried eel bones high in calcium.
Has been around for 110 years, just that alone is worth going. The restaurant is very considerate and set up seats for customers to wait. The inside is quite traditional Japanese and interesting. Very friendly service. The eels tasted very fresh, nicely grilled. Sauce was provided separately which means you can personalize the flavor. Enjoyed it.

Really delicious unagi restaurant serving up different styles & dishes. First time trying the pickled unagi & liver and would say that they are an acquired taste not for all, liver has a strong bitter aftertaste which should be a good sake-pairing dish. Do try it if you dare! Definitely recommend the unagi rice sets!

On my way to Kirishima, I stopped by Uemura Unagi-ya (上村うなぎ屋) for lunch as I’ve read so many good reviews about this old Japanese restaurant and it definitely did not disappoint! I ordered an unagi set which was filled with perfectly charcoal-grilled eel, glazed with delicious sauce over hot steamed rice. I also tried their deep-fried eel bones. They were extremely crunchy and high in calcium! Be warned that if you have to wait in line outside of the restaurant, they’ll make you stand in an area which is right next to their kitchen’s exhaust fans. Which can be very smoky!!

Best eel I had. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Natural nice charcoal taste on the eel, with just enough sauce. (Different from other type of unagi I had) I ordered the Unaju set with the liver soup 😋

I came here for dinner, and the wait for a table wasn't long at all. The restaurant is deceptively large. I ordered the small unagidon for 1900 yen, and that was the perfect amount for me. There was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive after ordering, but considering the restaurant is so large and popular that's not so surprising. The food was worth the wait!

It's an incredible place, obviously a superstar for the local people. We came at about 1030 and it's already half full. By the time we left it's full house. This doesn't mean it's a small place. In fact it's among the largest eel restaurant I have ever seen that can house like close to a 60-80 people. The mood is very classical and the quantity is solid. (Translated by Google) My friend, a local Hitoyoshi resident, recommended it and said it was delicious. It's a long-house style restaurant, and the parking lot is hard to find, but I think it was "Contract ①-⑧". If you're unsure, please check^^; They specialize in dandan noodles for lunch. At night, they turn into a Chinese izakaya by reservation, but if you make a reservation, you can get dandan noodles at night. Normal dandan noodles start at 800 yen. I ordered "Dandan noodles with yam and soft-boiled egg" because it was unusual, and my friends ordered a few other dishes. The spiciness is mild. The sesame paste is also modest, and the soup is relatively light, with slightly thin straight noodles. I guess it's on the sharp side for dandan noodles. The yam version seems even milder. The soup has a slightly unique feel, and if you crush and mix in the soft-boiled egg, the flavor becomes even more rounded, so it might be good for people who don't like spicy food. At night, it's a Chinese izakaya, and the individual dishes have a stylish feel to them, giving off a sophisticated Chinese image. The owner seems to be the only one running the place, but he's very efficient and the food is served quickly. The food comes out at a good pace, which is great. ^^; Reservations are a must at night, so it's a good idea to call in advance.

(Translated by Google) I finally learned about the existence of a parking lot, so I went there, but even though it was after 1pm on a weekday, there were about 4 groups of customers in front of me. Moreover, there is a wide variety of people, from young women to JK groups. It's definitely a popular store. Personally, I liked the taste of the soup, which felt more like hot and sour noodles than dandan noodles. Apparently you can change the spiciness, so I think I'll make it extra spicy next time.

(Translated by Google) There are several ramen shops in Hitoyoshi, but it seems like there are more dandan noodle shops than in other areas. This is one of them. It's a mysterious shop, as you can't see what's inside from the outside. The first challenge was finding a parking space. There were parking spaces nearby, but I couldn't find any with the shop's name on them. It appears that the parking lots, numbered "Contract 1" through "Contract 8," diagonally across from the Isumi supermarket, are a shared parking lot. When I entered the shop, there were three seats at the counter and three tables, the farthest one being for larger groups. You have to serve yourself cold water, but there are cups and a server on the counter in front of you as you enter, so you can fill up and sit down. The menu is simple. The only noodle option is dandan noodles, but you can choose from regular dandan noodles, chive and bean sprout dandan noodles, and yam and warm egg dandan noodles. The toppings are quite unique. Side dishes include a large or small portion of rice and fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce. The yakitori with sweet and sour sauce is an attractive price of 200 yen. The dandan noodles themselves are a bit unusual. When I think of dandan noodles, I imagine the aroma of sesame and thick ground sesame seeds, but the soup here is smooth and light. The noodles are also thin and straight, like Kurume ramen. Drinking the soup and slurping the noodles, I was constantly surprised.

Nestled in the heart of Hitoyoshi, Matsuda Unagi-ya is a must-visit for eel enthusiasts. While many flock to the popular Kamimura Unagi, often facing long waits, Matsuda offers a more relaxed dining experience. On my recent weekend visit during lunch hours, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds and found ample parking space. The restaurant's spacious and clean interior exudes an old-fashioned charm that adds to its appeal.

Once inside, there's a souvenir corner and ticket machines. When I was unsure, the staff gave me a thorough explanation. (Later, the guide) I chose a course and purchased a ticket! The standard plan cost 1,500 yen. I looked around the museum before the tour and found a display of the windshield of the Ryusei Kai carrier-based attack aircraft, which was discovered just a few years ago. (Photography was prohibited.) With the guide, we heard an announcement over the in-house announcement before the tour meeting time and waited in front of the back of the building. After leaving the museum, we infiltrated the secret base, located in the forest from the back. The tour took about an hour. The guide was very kind and gave a thorough explanation. It really evokes the wartime atmosphere of that time. After the tour, the Hitoyoshi Navy Rum at the gift shop was amazing. I highly recommend this tour. I toured with other participants. We walked from the facility to the bunker. It was a bit far, so we had to climb some stairs on the way back. (Car transportation is available for those with weak legs.) We toured the area while listening to the guide's detailed explanations, and even people of a generation who don't remember the war were able to get a sense of the difficult conditions at the time. (Translated by Google) Highly recommended. You might wonder why there's a naval base in these mountains (Hitoyoshi Basin), but after listening to the explanation on the guided tour, it all makes sense. It was a military secret, and during the war, even locals weren't told what kind of facility it was. However, the true nature of the base has only become clear in the last 10 years or so, and the town has worked hard to create an observation facility that doesn't let history be lost to the dead. The mayor is amazing. I highly recommend visiting it together with the Chiran Special Attack Peace Hall in Kagoshima. "Maybe I've taken a wrong turn?" (゚ε゚;) Just as I was thinking that, I spotted a guide flag and this brand new facility along the road. Entering the facility... First, there was a reception desk where I was given a "complete explanation of the facility." Then, I purchased tickets from the ticket machine for: - The admission fee for the facility - The actual tour fee (Three tour plans available) Once I purchased a "tour ticket," I was given a "different colored sticker" corresponding to the plan to attach to a visible part of my body... I went alone on a weekday! When I arrived, the tour was about to start, so the attendant explained the different ticket options and I chose the middle-priced option. Hassenba Hitoyoshi Kumagawa is a multifaceted tourist complex that offers a variety of attractions and amenities. Visitors can enjoy Kuma River cruising, rafting, and e-bike tours, as well as explore the first-ever Kyushu Pancake Cafe in Kumamoto and the HITO x KUMA STORE featuring local products. The complex also houses appealing shops and an open terrace bar on the second floor with views of Hitoyoshi Castle remains.

This location is also the starting point for river rafting, as well as a local product center and information base. We enjoyed a relaxing river trip at dusk on a hot summer day. The river breeze is very pleasant and you can become one with the river flow. People walking along the riverbank and hotel guests wave kindly to us. Here you can experience the good atmosphere of Japan.

Solarstorm F — Google review
There is really nothing to complain about except one thing. The facility is modern, clean and safe. The staff are friendly and not overwhelming (they let you have fun during the tours). The location is convenient for the city and the river itself is clean and relaxing. However, since I purchased the white water rafting course I expected white water rafting. Instead we did a 2-hour "rafting" course down a lazy river which was disappointing. If you're looking for excitement, maybe this isn't the place for you. I'm not sure why they don't say this on their website. I've included a video of the fastest section of their rafting course so go see for yourself. I'd recommend it for families with young children of 10 years old or less. It's strange because I want to give a worse review but everything else makes up for it. Just the actual experience was underwhelming. By the way, the staff doesn't speak English but a basic understanding of the language (N3) will do.

The parking lot 🅿️ was quite spacious, and there was a park at the top of the stairs, with a free exhibit museum, hands-on workshops for woodworking and pottery, a shochu exhibit museum, and an observation deck that doubled as a rest area (with a maze and a giant wooden Hina doll display), and the views were amazing. Considering how large the site was, it seemed lacking, and it felt empty and hollow. It was quiet for a roadside station, and not crowded for a public holiday. Soba noodle shop
The staff at Maruichi, a renowned soba noodle shop in Kumamoto, demonstrated exceptional dedication by ensuring that the menu was accurately translated. They even sought the assistance of a kind-hearted customer. Their warm welcome made us feel appreciated and valued. The prices were reasonable, making it an attractive dining option. We would definitely choose to visit Maruichi again, as the noodles themselves were incredibly flavorful and the kakiage (tempura) was equally impressive.
good place to have soba. had the chicken and egg hot soba and the cold soba. both had really nice soup and good texture.

(Translated by Google) Weekday Lunch, September 2025 I parked my car in the large parking lot at the back. It's a beautifully designed soba restaurant. I entered the restaurant a little after 10:30 AM. A waiter politely guided me to a counter seat. The menu was on the table, and I carefully examined it. Today, I ordered Zaru Soba! However, I was a little worried that that alone wouldn't be enough to satisfy my hunger, so I also ordered some hot "Kashiwa Soba." The Zaru Soba was served first. It was good! Delicious! Maybe I should have ordered a large portion? I finished it in no time. Then, the hot Kashiwa Soba was served. It was delicious, but unfortunately, the noodles lost their firmness towards the end and started to fall apart, which was a shame. I finished the whole thing, enjoyed some soba soup, and was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal♪ (Original)

Shabu-shabu restaurant
Japanese restaurant
During my recent visit to Tsukinoakari, I indulged in their all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu course featuring both beef and pork. The experience was delightful, with a generous 100 minutes to savor the meal. Despite the bustling weekend crowd, the food arrived promptly, ensuring we had ample time to enjoy our feast. While there seemed to be a slight staff shortage—resulting in delayed responses for gas refills—the innovative serving robots efficiently delivered our meat orders.

Even though it was a weekend and there were a lot of customers, the food was served quickly and there was more than enough time. Perhaps there was a shortage of employees, but even when we called to respond to gas shortages, it took some time to respond, but the serving robots that compensated for the lack of manpower seemed to be working well. There are other restaurants in Hitoyoshi City, such as Sunloop and Horai Chaya, but the one thing they have in common is that they are reasonably priced. This store also seems to be about 500 to 1000 yen cheaper than other similar stores. Although the quality of the food is reasonable, as the food was not fully thawed, the lunch menu is even cheaper and the cost performance is definitely better. A wide variety of seasonings are available. In addition to vegetables, salads, and fruits for shabu-shabu, you can also enjoy soft-serve ice cream. All of the seats in the store are box seats, and there are table-style and horigotatsu-style seating. The parking lot is quite large and can easily accommodate over 30 cars. However, there were a few things that bothered me. -There was no announcement about when the last order would be taken, so orders were closed before I could check. -The all-you-can-eat buffet was limited to 60 minutes, but in reality, it seemed like you had to finish your meal within 60 minutes, pay, and leave immediately. I wish they had explained that you had 60 minutes until you had to leave. -Five minutes before the end, a staff member came by and said, "We'll collect your tablet." An explanation like this at the beginning would have helped me prepare better. -Also, when my child was pouring himself a drink from the drink bar, he was suddenly told, "No leaving any food!" which surprised him. While it may be a rule, as a family traveler, it would have been appreciated if the tone and manner of communication were a little gentler. The system was different from the all-you-can-eat restaurants I usually go to, and it was my first experience of being required to pay and leave within the mealtime. I think it would be more reassuring if they could explain more clearly that additional charges will be incurred if the time is exceeded. You can enjoy your meal in a calm atmosphere in a quaint building that resembles an old folk house. Tagomae, which comes with udon or soba and has lots of side dishes, costs 800 yen, which is a bargain in this day and age of rising prices. The local rice, homemade side dishes, and chewy udon noodles are perfect. You can also have a second helping of rice, and you can also have matcha green tea after your meal. Even though you can get such a great meal, it doesn't seem like the prices have been raised even when I read reviews from a few years ago.I'm humbled by the company's sincere management attitude in this cruel world where opportunistic price hikes are rampant. It was a restaurant with a perfect score of 100, with friendly customer service from the mothers. The inside of the restaurant is surprisingly large, with mainly table seats, but some counter-like seats, and there are easily over 30 seats. Hitoyoshi-jō Castle, situated in the Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan, is a captivating historical site that offers a window into the region's rich cultural legacy. The castle, originally built in the 12th century and reconstructed in the early 17th century, boasts well-preserved stone walls and a main keep that provides breathtaking views of its surroundings. Once home to the Sagara clan for around 700 years, this flat mountain castle strategically utilizes natural features as defensive barriers.

The castle is located at the confluence of the Kuma River and the Munekawa River, and uses these rivers as a moat. Highlights include the protruding stone walls and the Mizunotemon Gate, which was built to allow water transportation on the Kuma River, and is said to be rare even nationwide. A 5-10 minute climb up the stone steps will take you to the remains of the main castle. There aren't any particularly notable buildings left, but it was a very nice castle ruin. Due to time constraints, I wasn't able to visit the remains of the main keep on the mountain, but even just walking around the stone walls and castle grounds at the base was enjoyable. It was a wonderful castle that I'd like to return to. Benitorioka Park is a hidden gem that offers a serene and private setting for nature lovers. It provides a miraculous experience, allowing visitors to relax without the need for insect repellent. The park boasts stunning panoramic views of Hitoyoshi city, making it an ideal spot to unwind and immerse oneself in the beauty of nature. Accessing the park from the east side is recommended due to impassable routes from other directions.

(Translated by Google) “How to get there Part 1” Due to the 2020 flood, the most used route from the east (turn right in front of Higashi Shoten) is impassable because the bridge over the stream past the Mikkabara Danchi entrance has collapsed. Turn left at the private house in front of it, and take a narrow working road in the mountains and turn right twice at the fork. You will come to the road ahead of the collapse, but the road is narrow and covered with bamboo and trees, so you will need to use a light truck or small truck. Not recommended for anything other than bikes. The route we recommend for first-timers is the one that takes a detour to Kaname, although it is a long detour. After passing ``Kaname Falls'', you will see a former bus stop with the sign ``Makinouchi entrance'' past the first private house on the right, so turn sharply to the right. Once you reach the top of the hill, a new gravel road will eventually appear on your right, so continue on that road. After that, continue on this gravel road for about 1km and it will eventually lead to a concrete road. After following this concrete road for a while, you will come to a large fork in the road, so if you go left, you will be able to reach the parking lot of Benitorioka Park. The information board that used to be at the junction has rotted and disappeared, so please be careful not to make a mistake. Scenic spot
Kaname Falls is a 36-meter-tall waterfall that offers a serene and refreshing experience. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, accompanied by the soothing sounds of birdsong and falling water. The area around the waterfall basin was well-maintained in the past, with rocks filling the basin, allowing visitors to get close to it. Accessible via a staircase, there is also a wider area for parking and restroom facilities nearby.
It's a Gem. It takes about 10 minutes to walk down to the fall. You also walk across a little bridge. It's well worth it! There is also another falls up the road not quite as good as here if you have the energy after here go there too.

Ajisen Ramen is a popular Japanese chain known for its flavorful pork broth and diverse menu featuring soups, rice dishes, and various noodle options like ramen, soba, and udon. The restaurant also offers a range of other cuisines including Italian, French, Chinese, and Southeast Asian. Customers praise the generous portions and delicious offerings such as gyoza and fried rice. Some special events like Ajisen Appreciation Day offer large servings at great value.

Day 4

Keep it simple
For day 4, these 2 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Hitoyoshi. Start the day with Murayama Park and make your way through the city to get to Sekisuiji Temple. This should take about 4 hours of your day.

Park
Murayama Park is a charming hilltop space that offers picturesque views of the now-inoperative Hitoyoshi Station, especially during the cherry blossom season in spring. It's a great spot for relaxation and leisure activities, with an observation deck, playground equipment, and eight tennis courts. The park's elevated plateau provides opportunities for walking or jogging amidst its ups and downs. Visitors can also enjoy a peaceful lunch or consider it as a potential location for day camps.
Beautiful park with an observation deck. If walking, there's an incline to reach the park. I was lucky enough to spot a swallow's nest during my visit - so beautiful! Since the flooding in Hitoyoshi 4 years ago, temporary housing has been built in the park. However, this doesn't take away the appeal.

Extremely serene, beautiful park with benches scattered along the way up to an observation deck. Quiet, less visited (only saw 2-3 Japanese men aside from our group having a relaxing quick meal or nap.

The entire area of the slightly elevated plateau has been developed as a park, with an observation deck and playground equipment. There are quite a few ups and downs, so it's perfect for walking or jogging. One block has eight tennis courts. This tennis court used to be all clay, but the upper six courts have been renovated into omni courts. In the foggy Hitoyoshi area, if you play the dirt court early in the morning, you might not be able to get your feet under your feet, so it's not really a good place to play tennis, so I'm grateful for the omni court specification. Approximately 20 cars can be parked in the parking lot near the court. Sekisui-ji Temple, a serene Buddhist temple situated in a tranquil area, offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This orthodox Soto sect temple boasts an impressive main hall adorned with statues of Buddha, Josai Daishi, and Joyo Daishi. Additionally, the goshuin seals feature an eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva.

The stone arch was impressive, and after the wind chime season had ended, it was replaced with lanterns, which were so cute that I took lots of photos. There were also various types of goshuin. Hitoyoshi Ekiben Yamaguchi is a must-visit for anyone traveling through Hitoyoshi Station. This charming bento shop specializes in creating delightful bento boxes that showcase the best of local Kyushu ingredients. One standout option is their fluffy rice paired with sweetfish, which has left many visitors enchanted by its flavors. The menu also features seasonal offerings like chestnut rice, ensuring there's always something new to try.

(Translated by Google) This is an ekiben shop located at Hitoyoshi Station that has been introduced to the media all over the country. In the past, it seems that there was a standing sale on the station platform, but now it is sold mainly by reservation at a shop in front of the station. There were only a few chestnut bentos and regular bentos that weren't ekiben available at the store, so I think you can buy them without making a reservation. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. I called after 7am on the day of the event and made a reservation for three types of ekiben: chestnut rice, sweetfish sushi, and kashiwameshi. On this day, I had the ingredients in the morning, so I was able to make it by the afternoon when I visited, but since there are times when the ingredients are out of stock, I think it's safe to make a reservation at least the day before. On this day, there was an event at Hitoyoshi Station, and the area in front of the station was very crowded due to traffic restrictions and stalls, but I managed to park my car in the store's private parking lot. There were some Kurimeshi (Ekiben) and some 600 yen bento boxes left in the store, but when the customer behind me bought them, they were sold out. When I told the staff about my reservation, she brought three types of bento boxes from the backyard and I was able to purchase them without any problems \(^o^)/ I took it home and ate it, and it was all delicious. I can see that the chestnut rice (1,200 yen) is popular. A plastic container with cooked rice topped with chestnuts, side dishes of shiitake mushrooms, wild vegetables, simmered hijiki, Kumamoto's specialty mustard lotus root, tamagoyaki and chicken teriyaki. Everything is very delicious Next is the two major specialties, ayu sushi. This is two sweetfish on rice with wasabi. It also has a notch so you can eat one bite at a time. It's a little sour, but it tastes like sushi, and it has a gentle flavor that's unique to sweetfish. Boiled shiitake mushrooms and ginger are also a nice accent. The soy sauce that comes in a fish-shaped container is also nice because it looks like an ekiben. Finally, it’s Kashiwa Meshi. I heard that there was a Yamabiko bento from the echoes of people selling it at the station bento, so I made a reservation and was told that this kashiwameshi was a Yamabiko bento. Kashiwameshi has a lot of ingredients, such as cooked rice topped with chicken slices and minced meat, and side dishes such as whole shrimp, sweet potato tempura, tamagoyaki, and kamaboko. It's very delicious Everything was delicious and good. I wanted this ekiben to remain forever. Thank you for the delicious ekiben. (Translated by Google) Excellent! This is what an ekiben is all about! A weekday morning, August 2025 There was no breakfast at the inn where I was staying, and the earliest coffee shop that offered breakfast was after 8:00 AM. So, should I buy a bento from a nearby convenience store? That probably wasn't an option, so I decided to buy my bento from a famous ekiben shop that opens at 7:00 AM. The building is on the left as you head out from JR Hitoyoshi Station, which is currently closed. They open just before 7:00 AM. I was the first customer to enter, and there were already a variety of bento boxes lined up. However, the "chestnut rice" and "sweetfish sushi" I was looking for were supposed to be lined up at the very front, on the right, but these two rows were missing! I asked the salesperson, who replied, "Yes, we have them!" and immediately brought me the chestnut rice. The price was 1,350 yen (tax included), a fair price, but since this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I bought it, paid with my credit card, and left the store. Returning to the inn, I ate the chestnut rice while making tea with hot spring water. Five large chestnuts cut in half, spicy lotus root, simmered dishes (koya tofu, shiitake mushrooms, chikuwa), chicken teriyaki, rolled omelet, kanpyo (dried gourd), and simmered hijiki seaweed were all placed on top of rice cooked in a mild dashi broth, creating an exquisite balance. Delicious! Delicious! I finished it all in no time. Comparing the chestnut rice in the flyer I was given with the photo and the actual product, I noticed that the shape of the outer packaging had changed. Previously, the outer box was shaped like a chestnut, but now the sharp peaks are gone, a real discovery. Thank you for the meal♪ (Original) 絶品!
