Sikidang Crater is a must-see attraction in Dieng, Central Java. This large volcano is still active and features a crater emitting natural sulfuric gas, creating an otherworldly landscape of barren land and boiling geysers. Visitors can explore the area using a long wooden bridge that provides stunning views of the volcanic formations and steam rising from the ground. The valley's yellow-green hue from sulfur adds to its surreal beauty.
Cool spot, very busy and not great parking. The pools were cool to see and the street food was pretty decent, you have to walk through the market and we discovered a coconut desert which was 5star.
Jordy S — Google review
Last time i went here is much much fun. Now more convinience just because of the walking path. However, now its limited access to the crater. Before we can take picture around the crater where there are some aesthetic dead trees. Now,there are some people (not sure they are legal persons or not) stand on the access and only allow people who pay for photo to go in. I personally feel its ridicilous. If its restricted due to the safety reasons and why its open for commercial photo.Too bad
Diahjeng F — Google review
The beautiful crater, the pungent sulphur fog smoke, the still cold air that is refreshing. And one more beautiful photo spot, don't forget to stop by the UMKM market.
Ainun M — Google review
Please come equipped with face mask as some of the odour may not be pleasant
Fong H — Google review
Great place , strong smell, but the way out feels like tourist trap . Like u have to go through around and round about 10times then u will find the exit.. all the way they is shops selling souvenirs & foods and the route is small.. it’s really feels like trap before go out.
Meyy Y — Google review
We came here after visiting Sikunir and the surrounding areas. We bought the tickets for Arjuna Temple, and we used the same ticket, Rp 30K per person, to come here as well. It’s easy to find a place because there is a big sign. Parking lot is big as well, and there are toilets, mushola, and souvenir shops around the area. The ticket is different for local and foreigners. You can see the boiling sulfuric water in the craters. The aroma is of course very distinct, like rotten eggs. After a while you will get used to it or you can also use the mask. Some people sell the masks on the entrance point. Please pay attention to the rules and the do’s and the don’ts while visiting this area. Don’t stay too long and mind the parameters. ♿️ for accessibility features: There are ramps and platforms around the area to see the craters. Somehow, the first ramp heading to the main crater is a bit tricky and not too friendly for wheelchair users, although the next wooden platform is mostly flat.
Indah S — Google review
Very unique location. Having never visited an active crater before this was an awesome experience. Smell of sulphur can be overpowering, should have grabbed some sort of a face mask. There is a tourist attraction of buying eggs boiled in the crater (Rp5.000/egg). Definitely worth visiting.
Jack R — Google review
The crater itself is amazing and the wooden decks around the crater makes it easy to explore for visitors. My main issue is with the exit. To exit the crater area, we were directed to walk through a local market, with which I am totally fine (many tourist places around the world do the same thing). The problem though is how the roads through the market are unmaintained despite the place charging us entrance fees. Some of the walkways are just soil, some parts have paving blocks, some parts have sacks as foundations. The uneven surface also creates some water-catching potholes. Even the local sellers have to use buckets to catch rainwater falling from their own tents. Other problems include tiles on the center area that seem to not be glued onto anything as foundation. During the rain, water will seep up when you step on the tiles. Another problem is with parking attendants who just charge you random fees as they like despite you paying for an IDR30k entrance fee. The management/local dinas pariwisata/pemerintah desa/kabupaten really need to be serious and step up their game if they want to be on par with other destinations or even to just be considered by international visitors.

Dieng Plateau, a volcanic complex in Central Java, is known for its ancient Hindu temples and cultural heritage sites. The area is home to beautiful Hindu and Javanese temples, including remnants from the Kalinga Kingdom. Visitors can explore the scenic landscape, trek through active volcanic craters, and hike Mount Prau for panoramic views of the plateau and surrounding mountains.
Dieng Plateau is not the easiest place to reach and it’s full of local tourists. You have to pay for almost everything—each attraction, each parking spot—and foreigners are charged five times more than locals. Construction is happening everywhere. That said, the air is fresh and the nights are cooler than anywhere else in Java. People are friendly, and despite the downsides, it's worth a visit. I didn’t see any other foreigners, and I kind of understand why. I definitely recommend it.

As a mountain guy, i prefer this place compared to Bali. I like heights and theres so many mountains around this place, i find it very exciting. The view is superb, weather is cold all year long. If you go on Aug-Sep, be sure to bring extra jacket cause it is very cold!

One of the recommended place to visit in Central Java. Plenty of adventures to do and great places to stay too. And the best thing is the weather is very cold around July to September months.

Mysterious plate to visit. We drove from Wonosobo to the Dieng Plateau. Road is very scenic, nice view to the several mountains. We were lucky that it was clear. Recommend to drive in the morning, the bigger chance it is clear. On the plateau we visited the temples, the crater and hiked through the fields.

Stayed overnight at Dieng Plateau before hiking Gunung Prau, and it was unforgettable! The views are breathtaking, with stunning landscapes all around. The cold weather added to the charm, making it a perfect spot to soak in the serene vibe. Highly recommend visiting for a refreshing escape and incredible scenery!

Arjuna Temple, located in Dieng Plateau, Central Java, Indonesia, is an ancient Hindu temple complex believed to have been built in the 8th century AD. Situated at an elevation of 6,500 feet above sea level, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The square-shaped temple is dedicated to Arjuna and features intricate carvings and decorations on its red sandstone structure.
A priceless historical heritage. Unfortunately, management is still suboptimal, despite the considerable number of visitors. Buskers still live within the temple grounds, requiring special attention. Some facilities, such as decorations and restrooms, are poorly maintained. Visitors also frequently litter. Hopefully, the relevant authorities will address this issue soon.

One of the most visited places in Dieng plateau in Wonosobo. Ticket available on the spot for 30.000 rupiah for local tourist. Parking available at the front entrance for cars and motorbikes.

The beautiful landscape, Dieng is also had an historical heritage. The Arjuna Temple complex is a silent witness to the Hindu civilization of the 7th to 9th centuries AD. What makes Dieng even more special and always packed with visitors is the Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) held every year, usually in August. The highlight of the festival is the Ruwatan Rambut Gimbal, a sacred procession of cutting the hair of Dieng children who have natural dreadlocks.

"My trip to Candi Arjuna was an extraordinary experience, an unforgettable moment that provided an exceptional panorama. Candi Arjuna offers stunning views with its ancient temple complex nestled amidst lush greenery. The intricate carvings and architectural beauty of the temples were truly captivating. Exploring the site and learning about its historical significance was a remarkable journey. It is definitely a place worth visiting for history enthusiasts and those seeking a glimpse into Indonesia's rich cultural heritage."

It's amazing historical place. Beautiful scenery around, fresh air. I hope people more appreciated this place rather than just take picture for social media. Not so easy road to go inside for special needs people. Some of the descriptions about the temple is broken, need more attention. Overall it's amazing place.

It’s a cliff that offers a breathtaking view of two lakes with different colors. To enjoy the view from above, visitors must climb many steps. There are several popular spots for taking photos, but during peak seasons, long queues are common, so patience is required. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit

For everyone that has a plan to visit Dieng, needs to add this place as the first thing they need to visit to. This place has such a magnificent view that I can guarantee the efforts to get at the top are worth it. The food and merchandise that sell there also have reasonable prices. Theres also no pungli unlike some places in west java. Such a good experience

Amazing place for Sun Rise watching The Sun Rising process was breath taking. Worth every step climbing to the top. Was here during October, car parking was far away approximately 1 km to the foot of the climb. Have to take ojek to safe time. Caution, Very crowded during weekend,

One of the best sunrise I ever seen. Absolutely fantastic. Splendid. The spot is beautiful and easy to access Approximately 30 min walk to climb at the top The climb is relatively easy but I still recommend to have good shoes Also it is quite windy and cold at the summit so bring some warm clothes Approximately 8/7 °C at the top I recommend to start the walk to the summit around 4 am if you want to see the whole sunrise from the beginning

Restaurant
Rumah Makan Boemi Dieng is a well-regarded restaurant located on the roadside towards Telaga Warna in the highland area of Dieng. The spacious parking area can accommodate numerous vehicles, and the menu offers reasonably priced meals starting from Rp16,000. Situated at the foot of a mountain, this eatery provides a natural and refreshing ambiance with beautiful scenic views, especially on clear days.
Having some breakfast here with my travel buddies. The vibes are so nice. The food is amazing. Come and get some of it.
Deppy S — Google review
Stay away. Negative reviews are valid. Food is a gambling bet on getting a food poisoning. Even my plain rice came dirty. Bathroom facilities atrocious.
Jack R — Google review
Stay away, it is foul. Absolutely swarming with flies to the point I lost my appetite before the food came out. The seasoning on the chicken seemed tasty but I couldn't bring myself to eat it due to the environment. It's almost impossible to eat anyways because you need to use one hand to constantly swat the flies away. Pretty gross.
Chuck K — Google review
This place is filled with flies! I don’t understand how others could say anything good about this restaurant! As soon as you got off the car, you will be greeted with flies. If you want stomachache with free flies protein, this is the place for you. Filthy and disgusting
Tina S — Google review
Poor service from waitress and waiter, they didn’t give us the menu after we seated for more than 15 minutes (only few tables were occupied though), and finally came after I complained. Also, the waitress wasn’t informative and helpful about the menu-she just knew nothing. Food and drinks were ready in more than 30 minutes after I complained too—the place is cold, so just imagine how waiting >30 min would feel like. The foods are so so. Some of them are served cold. The place is not kid-friendly and the worst part, it’s dirty. Such a displeasure.
Irma D — Google review
I ordered Breakfast menu (Fried chicken, soup, and oseng tempe) The menu is okay, but honestly it's a bit tasteless in my opinion, maybe should choose the other menu. But the place is clean and we can enjoy the food while looking at the Dieng plateau. So far, it' good place to eat.
Aulifia A — Google review
They service is not good, no one served when we came, even though it was a long wait, everyone was busy inside and I decided not to eat

One of the best place to have a meal in a nice and relaxed environment in Dieng. This restaurant is on the other side of the busy part of Dieng. A more quiet location where you can actually lose track of time while enjoying the cool breeze of Dieng... The food is good, too 😋😎

The location is near the grand mosque. With the background of Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing, it makes you feel at home for a long time looking at the beautiful mountain views. They have complete city center facilities, such as: outdoor fitness facility, basketball court, fountain, playground and jogging/walking sidewalk. Some local food street sellers are near this location, so we do not need to be worry about foods. Some car parking spaces are located just next to the location and they are spacious. Recommended place.

On our last day in the region, we stopped by Alun Alun Wonosobo before heading back to Purwokerto from Dieng. While it is not as good as our favorite Alun Alun in Cirebon, it is still worth it to bring kids to have some fun. Taman Rekreasi Kalianget Wonosobo is a delightful family-friendly hot spring destination nestled in the charming Kalianget Village. This park offers an array of amenities that cater to visitors of all ages, including inviting cold and warm pools, a vibrant food court, playful playgrounds, and cozy gazebos for relaxation. The atmosphere is enhanced by colorful flower plants that bloom beautifully during the rainy season, creating a picturesque setting.
Such a good place to take a break and relax for a while. The water is just fine, not too hot nor too cold. The tickets are quite acceptable for only IDK 5.000,- (one person), and IDK 4.000,- for motorcycle parking lot.
Isna Z — Google review
This place is renewed for a new concept but it's actually got no improvement anyway. The hot pool is far away separated from the cool one. There are 2 K area entrance fee and each place inside the area also has its own fee. The hot pool costs 7 K and also the cool one. The pool isn't rectangle but designed to look lux. But I just want to say that it's more to a personal pool than public. Government needs to find another idea to make this park better.
Farhan M — Google review
I was expecting too much, because I was here several years ago, and I thought, it will be a good place for children to explore the nature and swimming on the hotspring. Nowadays, they renovated at all, unfortunately, it didnt interesting anymore.

Entrance ticket is only Rp 2,000 per person. There are 2 swimming pools, cold water and warm water. If you want to swim, it costs you Rp 7,000 per person for each swimming pool. It was a good to play for kids with small money, but I think they need more improvements/developments of the facilities and cleanliness. The staffs of the entrance gate and swimming pool were very friendly.

Lake
Telaga Menjer is a scenic lake that offers stunning views of craggy mountains and is surrounded by forests. It is a popular tourist attraction in Wonosobo, known for its myth about couples who visit the place breaking up the next day. The lake has no outlets and is fed by Lotus Hill nearby. Sero Hill, which stands close to the lake, offers an excellent photo opportunity for visitors.
The place is very beautiful, the scenery is great, there are many boats that we can ride around the lake. I really like the atmosphere. Unfortunately, this good place is not well managed, there are some spots that are not well maintained and there is a lot of garbage in the lake, other than that, this place really gives its own comfort.
Khafifah Z — Google review
Suprisingly it was really good scenery. I enjoy from the outside ticketing gate. Because I am afraid I will not get the better view from there. There are some ticketing gate, I didn't know which one is the right one to get best view. Parking boy forced us to entrust our helm and charge 3K/helm. It was fine but I think it was not necessary.
Mukhlishin M — Google review
Good recreational place for family vacation. The ticket is quite cheap, you do have to pay 20k each person to ride on a boat. But I totally recommend renting a boat even if you have to ride together with everyone, you can make good videos on boats. Some photo spots need you to pay afterward though. There are a lot of foods and beverages available at the parking area.

Menjer Lake

4.7
(2500)
Menjer Lake, located in Wonosobo, is a serene and picturesque destination at the foot of the Dieng mountains. It offers a tranquil atmosphere with cool temperatures and stunning views, making it perfect for relaxation. The lake is known for its photo-worthy spots and the option to rent boats for leisurely rides around its expanse. Visitors can also enjoy the fresh air and indulge in hot tea from nearby plantations while taking in the beautiful backdrop of Mount Sindoro.
Two weeks ago we visited the lake for the first time. It took around 30 minutes from Alun-Alun Wonosobo to the lake. It is better to take a boat with friends and family. The waiting time was 30 minutes, it actually depends on how many visitors at the time. Car parking fee IDR 10K. Boat ticket IDR 20K/person.

Nice place for healing, you can ride the boat go around the lake. Beautiful scenery, and nice temperature during daylight. Also can visit and feeding some fish pound

Entrace ticket costs only 5K rupiah. The road to the lake is kinda steep for older people and you have to go down the rocky steps to reach the lake. It's not recommended for older people with wheelchair or people with baby stroller. After you reached the lake, you can take a boat to go around the lake. It only costs 20K rupiah/person. If you only want to take many picture, they provides selfie area photo which only costs you 5K/person. Wanna only enjoy the view of the lake and mountain? You can also grab some snacks and enjoy your hot drink at the food stall.

The Tambi Tea Gardens, located in Wonosobo Regency of Central Java Province, is a spacious tea plantation maintained by local farmers. With its expansive grounds spread across the hilly terrain from Tambi to Tlogomulyo, it offers breathtaking views of Mt. Sindoro and Mt. Kembang. The eastern part of the plantation houses Sikembang Valley - a nature destination worth visiting.
it was a great experience to visit there y'all. highly recommended this place
Fanida I — Google review
The view of the tea garden is good, but the facilities are not good enough , especially for entertainment. There is only one food kiosk (there are several kiosks in the parking lot) there is no other option) hopefully in the future it can be much more both for entertainment and for drinks and food stalls.

For the best view you can go there in the morning around 7 to 8 am. It's not too crowded at that time. Best time about July to August

It's a big tea garden with many spots for taking photos. It also has several benches for you to enjoy the breeze of Dieng. The entrance fee is only IDR 10k/pax, cash payment only. In the middle of the garden, there is a coffee and tea shop. I'd recommend ordering their tea, it was very refreshing.

Umbul Jumprit

Umbul Jumprit, located in Central Java's Magelang District, is a sacred place known for its holy water source. This spring, with monkeys playing around, holds great significance during the Vesak celebration at Borobudur Temple. Visitors can witness the ritual of preparing holy water and even take a dip in the pure spring. The well-paved path through the forest makes it easily accessible.
Sacred place before enter Dieng area. This is one of water spring in there. The water is clean and cold. Btw, be carefull with the monkeys.

Sacred place where is worth to visit. I could feel something special when I visited here. Entrance ticket is Rp 10,000 per person. It’s in a forest but the way to the spring is well paved, you don’t need to walk a lot/steep road. There is a tomb of Ki Jumprit and you can visit this tomb too. Be careful of your belongings because there are some monkeys.

To experience on having one of the purest water, even go full clothes dipping, is one of a kind. Be careful of the monkeys, they're not troublesome but sometimes attracted to things we bring. Dont feed them if you just have a limited amount of food.

Vesak celebration in Central Java is centralized in Borobudur Temple where located in Magelang District. The main attribute for their ceremony is holy water which is sourced from Umbul Jumprit. Umbul means water spring. As like as Sangeh in Bali, Umbul Jumprit has also 🐒 monkey. Nice to visit one day before Vesak celebration. Umbul Jumprit has ritual for preparing holy water to be brought to Borobudur Temple.... 🙏🙏

Serene place, until bunch of local dangdut came to 'entertain' tourist. This place supposedly sacred. There's lots of monkeys playing around. The word umbul itself means spring. Usually during Vesak, Buddhist monks will take some water from this spring for Vesak ceremony at Borobudur.

On August 10th was my first time hiking this mountain. It wa an amazing experience. We can see Sindoro & Sumbing Mountain from it's summit. More over, it has a very large area of summit, so many angle of views you can get there just to enjoy the beautiful sunrise or sunset. And so many spots to build the camp. It's just so many rules to follow too if you want to hike and camp on this mountain. There are 4 Basecamps there which you can chose where ever you want of the starting point to hike and each path of each basecamp has different challenges. It was the best experience I've ever had to hike this mountain. I can't wait another chance to hike this mountain again. For the better explanation, you may check the photos I provide here, and the video on my Youtube Channel at MiD's Life.

I have visited mount Prau a few weeks back with several friends of mine and I was impressed with the view and joyful trip of hiking. The sunrise and sunset are wonderful, you would be glad to camp on this mount for a few days, relax your mind and having positive energy of nature. The view is stunning and felt good to take picts there. The air was breezing in the morning, however it would be a good time to spend with your friends or having new friends. Would be glad to step on this mount for more!

Basecamp Gunung Prau via Dieng is a popular trek that starts from Dieng village, offering an easy 3-4 hour return hike with an elevation of 2,599m. The trail begins behind the Dieng Homestay and passes through farmlands and forests before reaching the summit with stunning views. The registration fee for hiking and camping is affordable, and there are facilities such as an information center, parking area, toilets, and food court available at the basecamp.
There's a place for hikers to sleep, bathroom and washroom and musholla. But the place to sleep is also a place to smoke so it's a bit hard to breathe, because the room is full of smoke.

Nice people and easy to access. The registration fee for hiking and camping is 20k and for the overnight parking of my motorbike I paid another 15k. Videos of the location and the hike will come up in the channel.

Foreign people are getting scam there. I explain : we were hiking on the area til finding this place and continue to Mt. Prau. Then someone ran after us to ask for registration ; okay why not, it's maybe for security reason. We decided to follow him on the registration desk (which I guess is used to organise expedition). This guy then ask us what are we doing here, we explained him we wanted to hike a bit on the top of the hill to enjoy the view. He then said we would have to pay 115.000Rp/pax. What a joke. Run away from this place and find another way to get on the top, it is possible.

The easiest track for hiking Mt. Prau! Imma typically daylight hike (tektok) so this basecamp gonna be the fave one! The highest above other basecamp I guess. Pretty easy to reach by gmaps! Not so tight rules. Will cost you IDR 25.000 for the entrance fee plus kinda protocol to covid kinda stuffs. Fill the form, leave your id like standard technical hiking requirements. There was no bag checking when we hiked. Probably because quite empty that day. Haha not sure 😄 Not so spacious yet low maintenance bathrooms. Who cares anyway lol Friendly staff! Thank you! About the track; easy peasy! My little sister was the very first experience in hiking and just need two hours to reach the peak! Could be less than an hour for you who actively hiking. All the tracks are safe! There’s no single steep one. Along the route there will be not enough sign but still easy to follow the track. If I could suggest the staff there, please do re-write the map you gave us with details scale like the elevation of each station or at least the eta 😉 Definitely comeback! Happy hiking! Ps. Breathtaking views later after the third station!

Bima Temple, located in the village of Dieng, stands out for its integration into the predominantly Muslim community. It is a small temple named after the Mahabharata character Bhima and is often referred to as Bima by locals. The temple, built in stone with architecture resembling that of temples in North and South India, does not charge an entry fee. Situated near the Sikidang crater, it offers a unique backdrop for visitors.
An ancient Hindu temple.

A nice short walk from the crater, I stumbled upon it by mistake. Just one structure in a small green field with nice backdrop view. They were installing a nice metallic fence around it when I visited. Not a must do at all, you have the bigger temple's location in the same area. Much more interesting. No tickets it's free entry ofcourse.

The well-marked trails took me through lush forests and open meadows, revealing captivating vistas along the way. The diversity of landscapes made the ascent engaging and rewarding. Arriving at the summit of Gunung Sikunir just before dawn was a surreal experience. The sight of the first rays of sunlight casting a golden hue upon the rolling hills and distant volcanoes was nothing short of magical. The iconic "sea of clouds" phenomenon is a sight to behold from Gunung Sikunir. As the mist gently enveloped the valleys below, I felt like I was floating above a dreamlike landscape, lost in the beauty of the moment. The sunrise spectacle was complemented by the camaraderie of fellow trekkers. Wadaslintang Dam, inaugurated in 1988 by President Soeharto, is an impressive structure standing at 116 meters high and stretching 650 meters long. It has a capacity of 443 million cubic meters of water sourced from several rivers. Despite its deteriorating condition, the dam offers a stunning view and is a popular spot for young couples to spend time together. The vast reservoir provides opportunities for activities such as jogging, cycling, and fishing for nila in Kalilanang.
Visiting Wadaslintang Dam was a refreshing experience. The serene surroundings and breathtaking views make it a perfect spot for a peaceful retreat. The expanse of water coupled with the lush greenery around provides a picturesque setting, ideal for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. While the place itself offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s worth noting that there aren’t many facilities or amenities nearby. Therefore, it’s advisable to come prepared with your own food and drinks if you plan to spend a considerable amount of time here. Overall, Wadaslintang Dam is a beautiful destination for those seeking a calm and scenic environment, though the lack of amenities means some pre-planning is necessary.

Soto Bening Pororojo/Garang asem is a hidden gem offering diverse traditional food in a tranquil setting with beautiful scenery. Despite being somewhat remote, it's only around 2km from the town plaza. The prices are affordable, with the highest priced item at 18k rupiah. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, and the owner is polite and accommodating.
One of the best places to eat traditional food.

Hopefully you guys will be more serious about selling your food, don't shout at customers, accept criticism that customers give to you. Accepting criticism from customers well can develop your business. Train your employees well, it's not easy but it can be done right? Honestly, I'm tired of eating here🙏

Very nice scenery.. Not really a remote area because its only around 2km from alun-alun (town plaza). For this price tag (highest price only 18k rupiah) no complain.

the taste is so so, but because it's located in remoted area, the place is quite comfortable. For the price is worth it.
