PrAmbAnAn,
Best time to go is after noon and watch the sun cast soft shadows on the relief during sundown. It is less crowded than Borobudur because the temple structures are spread out with lots of open spaces in between. There are also many smaller but magnificent Buddhist structures on the temple grounds worth visiting. I had the pleasure of sitting on ancient stones, with the soft sun behind me on the western side of the main Prambanan temple and just soaking up this historical monument. It took me 33 years from first learning about it in university to actually setting foot here to see it. I am very impressed by all the work they are putting in to conserve and preserve this beautiful UNESCO heritage site. Even though a foreigner entrance ticket costs 8x more than a domestic ticket, it is worth every rupiah! Some domestic visitors were not too careful about the stone relief though. I saw one man use his umbrella to point and hit on the stone relief. 😞 Hope better education and supervision can be given on site by heritage staff.

Prambanan Temple is absolutely stunning and a must-visit when in Yogyakarta! The temple complex is vast and beautifully preserved, with incredible stone carvings and towering structures that tell ancient stories from Hindu mythology. Walking around the site feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is breathtaking, especially when you catch it at sunrise or sunset — the lighting makes the temple even more majestic. The area is well-maintained, and there are helpful signs explaining the history. It can get quite hot during the day, so I recommend visiting early in the morning or late afternoon. Definitely worth the visit — both for history lovers and anyone who appreciates incredible cultural landmarks!

Prambanan Temple is a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful temples in Indonesia. The architecture is stunning, the gardens are well maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful. Walking around the temple complex gives a deep sense of history and culture. A must-visit destination in Yogyakarta for anyone who loves history, culture, and photography

Prambanan Temple is one of those rare places that leaves you speechless the moment you step inside. As Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple complex, it stands proudly with its towering stone spires and intricate carvings — a breathtaking masterpiece of 9th-century architecture. The main temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma rise dramatically against the sky, creating a silhouette that feels both powerful and serene. Walking through the complex feels like stepping into ancient history. Every relief, every stone has a story — from the Ramayana carvings to the smaller temples scattered around the grounds. What makes the experience even more magical is the wide-open layout; you can wander freely, take photos from many angles, and really soak in the atmosphere without feeling rushed. One of the best times to visit is late afternoon, when the sun casts a warm golden light on the temples. At sunset, the entire complex glows beautifully, making it a dream for photographers and anyone who loves dramatic scenery. And if you have the chance, the Ramayana Ballet performed near the temple is an unforgettable cultural experience — a blend of dance, music, and lighting with the temple as the backdrop. The area is well-maintained, clean, and spacious. Facilities like rest areas, information signs, and walkways make the visit comfortable, even in larger crowds. Local guides are available too, and they can bring the temple’s stories to life with impressive detail. Overall, Prambanan is a must-visit — a place where history, architecture, and spirituality meet in the most beautiful way. Whether you're a culture lover, photographer, or casual traveler, this UNESCO World Heritage Site will easily become one of the highlights of your journey in Indonesia.

Visiting Prambanan Temple is like stepping back in time to witness the grandeur of Indonesia’s rich Hindu and Buddhist heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only an architectural marvel but also one of the most accessible and tourist-friendly attractions in Central Java. Accessibility & Tour Guides: The temple complex is conveniently located about 17 km from Yogyakarta city center, and it’s easily reachable by car, motorbike, or public transport. If you're coming from the airport, it's just a short ride. Upon arrival, you’ll find the entrance very organized with ticket counters for domestic and international visitors. What really enhances the experience is the availability of licensed tour guides. They are friendly, multilingual (English, Bahasa Indonesia, and sometimes other languages), and extremely knowledgeable. Guided tours are highly recommended to understand the deep symbolism, mythology, and history behind the temple reliefs and structures. Parking Lots & Entry Process: The parking area is spacious and well-managed, accommodating both private cars and tour buses. There’s a separate area for motorbikes, and everything is within walking distance to the entrance gate. The entry process is smooth, and staff are helpful, maintaining a good flow even during busy hours. Facilities: The facilities are excellent for a historical site of this scale. There are clean restrooms, shaded seating areas, and refreshment stalls near the entrance and inside the complex. You’ll also find a souvenir market selling everything from traditional batik to wooden crafts and mini Prambanan replicas — perfect for gifts. There's even a small museum near the complex that provides more background about the site's excavation and restoration efforts. The Temple Grounds: The temple complex itself is vast and immaculately maintained. The main temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma stand proudly in the center, surrounded by smaller shrines and ruins that speak volumes about ancient Javanese Hindu civilization. Visitors are allowed to walk into several of the temples, and the carvings are remarkably well-preserved. Be sure to wear comfortable footwear and bring a hat or umbrella as it can get quite hot during midday. Bonus Tip: Come early in the morning or around sunset to avoid the crowds and get the best lighting for photos. For a truly magical experience, consider watching the Ramayana Ballet at the nearby open-air theatre in the evening — with the temples as a backdrop, it's an unforgettable performance. Conclusion: Prambanan Temple is not just a tourist site — it’s a spiritual, educational, and visual journey that impresses every visitor. Whether you’re a history buff, a photographer, or just someone looking to appreciate world heritage, Prambanan delivers on all fronts. A must-visit when in Yogyakarta!

I truly enjoyed my visit to Prambanan. The temples are breathtaking, and it’s clear that a great deal of effort goes into preserving the site and maintaining it for visitors. Walking among such extraordinary history was a remarkable experience. However, the end of my visit was completely overshadowed by the sight of animals kept in cages in extremely poor conditions. It was shocking, deeply upsetting, and frankly shameful to see something like this in a place of such cultural and spiritual significance. No historical landmark, especially one as important as Prambanan, should tolerate or endorse the mistreatment of living beings. This left a very bitter impression and turned an otherwise wonderful visit into a moment of anger and sadness. I sincerely hope the authorities take immediate action to remove these animals or ensure they are treated with proper care and dignity. It is unacceptable, and it tarnishes the reputation of an extraordinary site.

I was so delighted to visit Prambanan Temple and feel like I was traveling back in time. The temple complex is stunning, and it’s a great place to learn about history. Exploring the ancient architecture and hearing the stories behind it made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves culture and heritage.

Beautiful heritage temple from 800sm already almost from 1200 years ago, I just found out when in find was actually as ruin, and the Dutch continued by Indonesian government need to restored it. Not only the Prambanan temple, they have eating place, kids activity, souvenir shop (very cheap) and museum, good place to spend time with family plus educational value.

Brahma Temple is a part of the Prambanan Temple complex, which is Indonesia's largest Hindu site and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed location. Comprising the remains of some 244 temples, World Heritage–listed Prambanan is Indonesia's largest Hindu site. The highlight is its central compound, where its eight main and eight minor temples rise up majestically like ornate 9th-century skyscrapers. Erected in the middle of the 9th century – around 50 years later than Borobudur – little is known about its early history. It’s thought that it was built by Rakai Pikatan to commemorate the return of a Hindu dynasty to sole power in Java.

Nestled along the scenic Opak River, the Open Air Amphitheatre Prambanan is a captivating venue that brings to life the enchanting tales of the Ramayana through mesmerizing dance recitals. Running from May to October, these performances are beautifully complemented by a traditional gamelan orchestra, creating an unforgettable cultural experience under the stars. While it's advisable to secure tickets through a travel agent prior to your visit, this outdoor setting offers stunning views of the iconic Prambanan temple as its backdrop.
It's an excellent open air amphitheatre i had never seen before. When i saw the Ramayana Pala played by more then 100 performers, I was absolutely amazed.

to be honest, the only lacking was some of the viewers' attitude. the performance itself was 10/10, starting from the ambiance, makeup, live sinden, lighting works, the view, and more. unfortunately, it can be hard to concentrate on the show bcs ppl talk a lot, covering all generally appropriate to not-so appropriate subjects. i do hope more people can fully immerse with appreciation for the performance when they decide to watch the show.

(Translated by Google) The scenery in the background is beautiful, directly overlooking Prambanan Temple. However, the story isn't very engaging, making it less enjoyable for those who don't speak Javanese. Unlike the indoor version, there's subtitles explaining the story, so even children can enjoy it and understand the plot. (Original) Pemandangan sebagai backgroundnya bagus, langsung candi prambanan, hanya saja untuk cerita kurang menarik, bagi yang tidak bisa bahasa jawa kurang bisa menikmati. Ramayana Ballet Prambanan is a popular attraction that presents a show near the Prambanan Temple, featuring a combination of dance and drama based on the Ramayana story. The performance showcases the traditional legend of Roro Jonggrang through dramatic movements and theatrical arrangements. The show lasts for about an hour and offers both classic and modern elements. Ticket prices are reasonable, with different seating options available.
Stunning show! The night I went, they showcased Rama, similar to the dances you'll see in Bali (kecak). Except this one was a lot better. The choreography was smoother, a grandeur pyrotechnic show, and of course... the unbeatable view of Prambanan Temple glowing majestically in the background. We wanted VIP seats and book in advance but weren't able to as weather was unpredictable, so we were told to buy on the spot. Luckily, sky was clear that night. We waited in line from 6:40pm for the 7:30pm show and the line was already a decent length, so, better get there at least an hour before if you have to go through a ticket war like we did. We were able to successfully secure VIP seats, front-row and cushy, which included light refreshments and drinks during the break - except the break was only 10 minutes, and of course there was a line, so people were still getting snacks and drinks while the second part of the show began to play. It also included access to VIP-only restrooms which was nice - newly updated restrooms. Getting in and out of the venue was easy.

We watched this music and dance performance after visiting Prambanan Temple. We arrived early but unfortunately, there is no waiting for show attendees. The restaurant there was for people who had booked a meal. The performance was interesting but interrupted by rain, upon which we had to re-assemble in the indoor hall. It was quite chaotic as the staff did not use a loudspeaker to give instructions. Nonetheless, it was a rich cultural experience watching the show.

It was fun. At the beginning, the choreography was great. Then it turned into a circus with kids playing spirits. The acrobatics and breakdance were fun, but I didn't expect them at the ballet. The music equipment and the background image on the tv are mediocre. Seats are good. The story is dubbed in English but it's better to read it beforehand with ChatGPT. Overall, for the price it's a good show.

I was so pleased to be able to see their performance again. It's worth it and mesmerizing. Not my first time to come and see Ramayana Ballet Prambanan, but it is the first time to watch it Indoor. The entrance (Trimurti) is located next to Rama Shinta Garden Resto. They're performing indoor during rainy season and outdoor the first half of the year. Ticket to be purchased online, through third party or their official website.

Booked for the outdoor extra show session at 17:30 WIB for the Rama & Sinta story. Overall, it was a good performance, but I have some notes based on my experience: - I chose the south second-class seat, and as you can see from my picture, I couldn’t capture the Prambanan Temple as the performance background like in the advertisement. I was fine with it as the performance was excellent, but it could be nice if there was more information regarding the layout. I feel like people choose and pay for the outdoor area to have the experience of watching the performance with the Prambanan Temple as the background of the show. So, tips for everyone that will watch the 17:30 show: choose the VIP section if you can, but if the VIP section is sold out, I’d recommend you choose the north side section. - I entered the outdoor amphitheater area around 17:28-ish and was kind of afraid I would miss the beginning of the show. Apparently, the show started at around 18:00 or 6 PM-ish. And again, I think the organiser could at least put this information for the public. - As someone who is kind of familiar with the story, I could at least follow the general timeline of the performance. But in my opinion, I think it would be great if the organiser could provide some sort of summary about the story and a snapshot of the characters that will appear in the performance on the official website or social media (PDF file), or provide a printed handout for those who are interested. I still give 5 stars since I really enjoyed the performance and am very happy that we have a platform to showcase and preserve our tradition, but there is definitely some room for improvement for the organiser to make the audience’s experience even better. ❤️

A Captivating Cultural Experience through the Ramayana Ballet Watching the Ramayana dance performance was a wonderful opportunity to experience how an ancient epic can be transformed into living art and culture. The show beautifully elevates the story into a modern artistic expression while honoring its traditional roots. I highly recommend getting VIP seats to fully appreciate the entire stage — the view is spectacular. With a 9th-century temple as the backdrop, the performance unfolds like a romantic dream, blending history and art in a truly magical way. The combination of powerful action scenes and elegant traditional dance creates a dynamic and unforgettable performance. The Indonesian-style happy ending adds a joyful twist, making the experience both entertaining and heartwarming. I would definitely love to see it again. Having a basic understanding of the Ramayana story beforehand will help you enjoy the performance even more. Arigato from Japan~🇯🇵

I came here to watch the Shinta Obong Show, which only takes place every Friday, with the stunning view of the three main Prambanan temples right behind the stage. The whole experience already felt special and sacred from the entrance. After getting my wristband ticket, I was welcomed with a drink that had a refreshing ginger and lemongrass taste. The show started a bit late, so we had to wait longer than expected, but with the sunset view as the backdrop, I didn’t really mind. Before the performance, the staff guided us through a short ritual where I received a frangipani flower, a wooden bracelet, and a sprinkle of holy water (if I’m not mistaken). After the show, dinner was served buffet style. The food was delicious—the highlight for me was definitely the sate klatak and the soup (I forgot the name, xixi).

It's a great experience. The dancers are very good, and the story is engaging. There are even some fireworks. The only downside was the non-VIP seating, which is just concrete. I suggest bringing something to sit on.

Rama Shinta Garden Resto offers a delightful dining experience with a variety of delicious Indonesian dishes while enjoying the stunning view of Prambanan Temple. Guests can savor traditional Javanese cuisine such as nasi rawon, soto kudus, bakmi jawa, special fried rice, wedang uwuh, and wedang ronde.

Our family had a wonderful dining experience at Rama Shinta Restaurant in Prambanan. The view was absolutely stunning, right in front of the Prambanan Temple. We went for lunch, and it was such a treat to enjoy our meal while seeing the temple so clearly in daylight. The menu offered plenty of options, with authentic Indonesian traditional dishes that were all delicious, plus choices like chicken katsu if you prefer something more familiar. What really surprised us was the pricing—very affordable, especially considering the prime location and the fact that this is the only restaurant in the area with a direct temple view. The service was excellent, with staff providing warm hospitality throughout our visit. Parking was also very convenient, spacious, and located within the Prambanan temple complex. If you’re visiting or passing through Prambanan on your way in or out of Jogja, this restaurant is definitely a must-try. Highly recommended!

We accidentally stumbled upon this resto as we were waiting 2 hours to get in line and fight the war to get VIP seats to the ballet day-of. We were stunned by how gorgeous this place is. We were lucky to get there before dinner time and secured the front table. The view and vibe is unbeatable. There were a handful of tourists taking pictures on the stage in front of us yet it was still serene and pretty quiet. Their menu was an Indonesian buffet that night, 200k per person. They had a pretty good selection and the food tasted pretty good - we didn't expect much honestly, but was surprised. We stayed until the evening before the ballet began at 7:30pm, so we got the chance to see a front-row view of Prambanan from golden-hour, to sunset, to nighttime. What a magical experience!

Came here for lunch, and you do need to make a reservation beforehand. I booked about a week in advance, and they told me that only seats with less-than-ideal views were available. That was fine — I just wanted to enjoy lunch with a view of Prambanan Temple without having to walk around under the hot sun inside the temple area. When we arrived, the security staff asked if we had a reservation and checked it against their guest list. Everything was really well organized. The location is in the same area as the Ramayana Ballet venue. Surprisingly, when we got there, we were given a table with a beautiful Prambanan view — such a nice surprise! The food prices are still quite reasonable considering the lovely setting and atmosphere. Prices already include tax, which is a big plus — no hidden charges, and it feels honest and transparent.

The view of Prambanan Temple from Rama Shinta Garden Resto is beautiful, one of the few restaurants where you can actually enjoy the temple scenery while dining. Unfortunately, the food didn’t match the view. We waited for about an hour for our food to arrive, and when it finally came, it was very disappointing. I ordered the salted egg chicken, but the “salted egg” wasn’t creamy at all. It had the texture of scrambled eggs which was honestly unpleasant. For such a nice location, I expected much better food quality.

Prambanan Temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Indonesia's top tourist attractions. Access from Yogyakarta is very easy. Yesterday, I visited Prambanan by taking the commuter train from Tugu Station and getting off at Brambanan Station. I then took a taxi or online motorcycle taxi to the temple. In front of the temple, there are ladies or gentlemen who rent umbrellas. I just want to suggest renting one. Yesterday, I rented one for 10,000 Rupiah, which allowed me to take it all the way to Ratu Boko (because I bought a connecting ticket from Prambanan to Ratu Boko). If you don't want to rent one, that's fine, but honestly, the afternoons here are soooooooooo soooo ... It's best to rent an umbrella if you don't have one or wear a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the glare. The route out of the temple is quite long, as you have to pass through a souvenir shop.

Star Steak Prambanan is conveniently located just 350 meters from the entrance of the iconic Prambanan Temple, making it an easy stop for visitors. This popular dining spot among locals offers a delightful selection of Western cuisine, particularly known for its crispy steaks and tender meat. The restaurant features a cozy air-conditioned environment, perfect for escaping the tropical heat during those sweltering days. With quick food preparation times and reasonable prices, it's an excellent choice for a casual meal.
It's one of those in Yogyakarta we just decided to eat at on our way to the Prambanan Temple. We were in a rush to get to the Ramayana Ballet so we requested for the food to be hurried up. We quickly selected items from the menu and the food came in minutes. We got the Original chicken and original tenderloin with a side of fries and lemon ice tea. It was super delicious. Right portions for the price. Sauce was really good for creating the sizzle on the plate. Enjoyed eating something different besides the usual Indonesian meals. Fast food yet delightful.

Indonesian restaurant
A restaurant called Sate Kambing Muda Ki Doel Prambanan was recommended by an Indonesian friend for their delicious sate. Despite the unimpressive appearance, the food turned out to be excellent and arguably the best sate tried during the trip. Numerous skewers of chicken and lamb sate were ordered, with no exact count kept. The sate itself was tender and flavorful, complemented by a thick sauce made from peanuts, soy, and chili that was truly outstanding.
My Indonesian friend suggested me this restaurant for Sate. The place didn't look promising, but the food was on point, it was the best Sate I tried during my trip I ordered so many chicken and lamb Sate, I didn't even count how many skewers. The Sate was soft and juicy, topped with a thick peanut soy chilli sauce, which is to die for. You can get as much rice as you wish with your food. They also have two types of appetizer crackers on each table, you can try some of them while waiting for your food, and pay something little for them in the end

My group ordered chicken satay and goat satay, tongseng, tengkleng, and goat curry. For drinks, we had lemongrass ginger citrus. All the food was very delicious. The service was fairly quick. Overall, dining at this restaurant was very satisfying.
Mulyo B — Google review
Very good indeed! We stopped there to have diner after visiting Prambanan and before going to the Ramayana performance. It was very tasty with reasonable price! Very welcoming as well :) we had gule kambing, sate kambing and Ayam.
Marion D — Google review
A popular lamb satay restaurant opposite the world-famous Prambanan Temple tourist destination. I had dinner with my wife enjoying regular lamb satay, hot lemongrass ginger and hot tea, ... perfect. Self-service all-you-can-eat rice. Inexpensive. High chairs only. Fast service. A clean restroom and musholla. Spacious parking lots for motorbikes (with a roof) and cars. Minuses: no free WiFi; it sold out early, so some condiments for the satay were missing (chilli sauce, fresh vegetables).

Family restaurant
Kali Opak Resto is a spacious and comfortable restaurant located by a river, surrounded by light trees, creating a pleasant atmosphere for families. It's an ideal stop for lunch when visiting Prambanan temple. The house specialty, grilled fish, is highly recommended for its juicy and flavorful taste with aromatic spices. The menu offers good options like gado-gado sauce, sambal terisi, and nasi goreng with anchovies.
Our tour driver recommended us this restaurant for lunch. The food (espacially the grilled fish) is very very good, prices are okay for foreigners I guess, restrooms are clean, waiters were super nice and they speak good english. I really liked the ambience and location. I would definitely come here again if i d be back in this region.

We had a wonderful dining experience at this traditional Indonesian restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the charming and authentic atmosphere. The architecture, decor, and overall design of the place beautifully reflect the local culture, creating an immersive and welcoming setting for a meal. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking to enjoy a genuine Indonesian culinary experience in a cozy and picturesque location. The service was truly excellent — all the staff members were incredibly polite, attentive, and friendly. They took the time to explain the different dishes on the menu, and their recommendations were spot on. We felt well taken care of throughout the entire meal. Speaking of the menu, it was very extensive and offered a wide variety of traditional dishes, from flavorful soups and grilled meats to vegetarian options and delicious desserts. Everything we tried was fresh, well-cooked, and rich in authentic flavors. The spices and ingredients were clearly high quality and skillfully balanced. We also appreciated the cleanliness of the place and the peaceful ambience — a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal away from the busier tourist areas. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to discover true Indonesian cuisine in a beautiful setting!
Yashar S — Google review
After our visit to Prambanan temple, and being unfamiliar with the local dining scene, we asked our guide for a lunch suggestion. He recommended Kali Opak Resto, which appears to cater primarily to tourists. The food was generally acceptable, and the service was prompt and efficient. However, the prices felt somewhat elevated, perhaps reflecting its convenience as a guide-recommended stop. A definite highlight is the lovely setting, with pleasant outdoor seating right by the river, nestled against the forest. While it's a convenient option for a quick meal, especially if you're with a guide, those seeking a more authentic local culinary experience or exceptional value might consider other choices.
J. B — Google review
Kali Opak is the place to go, yummy food, friendly and inviting customer service, and the atmosphere is unique. As the photos show, the food looks amazing and tastes delicious. The signature dish is the catfish. I would say without a doubt that the dish was the yummiest fish I have ever eaten! People mention in other reviews that the price is high! I disagree. It cost me 650,000 rupiah to feed a family of four with main course and dessert as well as drinks. Compared with other restaurants/ cafes in Jogja it was cheap! And of higher quality. I thoroughly recommend Kali Opak to all.
Steve W — Google review
This place feels like a complete tourist trap. Portions are small, the food is mediocre, and the waiters are pushy. You won’t see any locals inside – only tour groups dropped off by guides. I truly regret coming here.

One of the best Indonesian restaurants voted by foreigners. Love the fried fish and fried chicken. The grill squid with green chili was very tasty too! The 2 types of chilis complemented the dishes very well. Overall, service was good too and the server can communicate in English fluently.

They recommended us grilled carp, and prices were on the high side, but the taste was still acceptable. While Luwak Coffee here was a nono square for me. Besides, they even helped us to light up a candle while seeing us shoooooing away the flies even though the candle is not working for chasing the flies away, which was a very considerate service. Overall, we enjoyed the lunch.

As one of the people who learned about rocks in college, I really like visiting this location. The big rocks were shown up in the surface with beautiful color gradation and shapes. The local government successfully created this outcrop to be one of the tourism destination closed to Yogyakarta. It took me around 50 minutes driving here using a motorcycle. In the big rock, they also modified it so we could go to the top of the outcrop. They created a stair that let us go to the top of the outcrop. Not only the stairs, but we would find the top part is filled with many places to take pictures as well as the supported equipment, such as the love signs as background, tea pot as accessories and many others. You could go here with friends or family. Recommended place to visit.

Ratu Boko Temple, also known as Kraton Ratu Boko, is a 16-hectare archaeological site featuring a blend of Buddhist and Hindu structures, including stone temples and caves. Situated on a plateau, this partly ruined Hindu palace complex dates back to the 9th century and is believed to have been the central court of the powerful Mataram dynasty.
Ancient palace complex dated back to 8th century. Located up in a hill, the area are pretty big, you can still see the entrace gate, fort, hall, bath pool (carved in a stone), stupa, etc. The ambiance is very nice and relaxing, especially in the afternoon to sunset time.

Really nice temple or rather temple ruins, definitely worth visiting. Unfortunately open only till 17:00, above from the temple would be really nice to watch the sunset... Though there were still many people around, not sure if 17:00 is really a (hard) closing time...

People used to call this place "Candi" or temple, but actually this is a palace as described in the ancient inscription. This palace cover a quite huge walk area to explore, and it's an open space. This ancient palace is a recommended place for those who loves photography and history. Since it's located in the higher ground, you will be able to see Prambanan temple from this palace
Herry P — Google review
Located in the eastern part of Yogyakarta, Ratu Boko is a great family-friendly destination to enjoy the sunset. The area is spacious, hilly, and surrounded by lush greenery, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere. I recommend visiting around 3–4 PM when the weather is pleasant and not too hot. I visited with international friends, about the ticket price is quite affordable for locals, though a bit expensive for international visitors. It’s best to get the bundled ticket that includes access to Borobudur or Prambanan temples for better value. Overall, if you’re visiting Yogyakarta and looking for a peaceful temple with fewer crowds, Ratu Boko is definitely worth considering.

Throwback to 2023, still amazed by the beauty in the simplicity of Candi Ratu Boko. This temple isn’t so grand, but it has such a mesmerizing aura. It's located on higher ground, so the atmosphere feels cool and refreshing. The walking paths toward the temple are well-arranged, with green lawns that make the scenery even more soothing. I was lucky to visit during sunset hour, so the view was truly breathtaking. Calm, serene, and memorable. I'd love to come again if I could. It’s absolutely worth a visit for its charm and magical sunset vibes.

Bought the ticket via traveloka, just teeny tiny bit cheaper than ots ticket. Got a good walk around the area. Got there around 4.15 pm. Walked around for almost an hour and rest by the main Gapura to look at the sun setting, was cloudy though. We just sat there by the grass. But some people brought picnic mat/blanket. There's musholla near the main Gapura, and also i think there's another one by the locket? Not sure about the 2nd one, but there's a sign near it. Oh. By the locket there's brochure about the site.

Very modest temple and ruin. Can see guy working trying to find the stone to rebuild it. 50k I think a bit expensive. Saw couple coming to take wedding photo with traditional clothes. So was nice and they let me take photo too. So was nice. Two main tower and a few around. And a lot broken one. The only full Buddha I saw was in a room kept away ready for final restoration I guess. There is a well before the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with a traditional bucket that we can have the blessed water from the well... Boko Sunset Resto is a dining spot located within the Ratu Boko Temple compound, offering an upscale experience with a stunning view. The friendly staff are ready to assist you in choosing from their delicious and reasonably priced food and beverages. While the vegetarian options may not be as impressive, their tea comes highly recommended. On clear days, visitors can enjoy a beautiful sunset, although it might not rival the one seen from Ratu Boko Temple itself.
The price is standard and the view is amazing. The employee are friendly and they food taste is decent. We love this place

Resto inside the Ratu Boko Temple compound. Amazing view. Too bad when we arrive the weather was bad. Too foggy then raining. Chill yet clean air. Great selection of snacks, food and drinks. Their wedang is very well recommended!
Rachmat — Google review
Came because meal was included in the entrance ticket to Ratu Boko. Mee Goreng was good, but fried banana only came with HALF piece of banana... Good ambience, too bad there was no sunset when we were there... Only good thing was the friendly staff, who helped us to talk to Gojek driver to guide him up the hill. A wasted opportunity for a potentially good restaurant.

To reach there you will drive through villages with great view of paddy fields. From the resto, view was beautiful; you can see Candi Prambanan from up there. You can also watch the sunset from Candi Ratu Boko. Stunning

The foods & beverage taste delicious with reasonable price and good ambiance. The staff are so friendly and helpful to assist your order. This place located at ratu boko temple area. If the weather is clear you'll be able to see the sunset here but not as good as the one in ratu boko temple.

Restaurant
Located near Prambanan Station in Klaten, Central Java, Bebek Goreng Suwarni offers a unique dining experience with its delicious duck dishes. The Soto Bebek is highly recommended for its flavorful taste and hot broth. The Bebem 1/4, roasted duck with sweet sauce, is described as tender and juicy, offering a delightful culinary experience. The restaurant's authentic Indonesian herbs add to the overall appeal of the dishes.
If you want to eat duck meat in another level, go to this place! I recomend the main course of soto bebek with nice taste, tender texture and hot broth besides. The reviewers before me is right 100% i feel like eating a taste of paradise. Go and dare yourself. Its so easy to find near prambanan station.

The best bebek bacem i've ever tasted. The meat was so tender, juicy, and tasted sweet. For those who dont like sweet taste, may not like with this kind of taste. The portion was quite enough, neither too many nor too little.

It's good, but also quite expensive, and greasy as well. Pictures from other people suggest that chicken dishes are available, but when we looked at the menu there was none. Turns out, this branch never offer chicken dishes; only the main restaurant offers them. So, best to avoid this restaurant if you're not into duck based dishes.

Abhayagiri is a tranquil restaurant located in the hills of a charming village in Prambanan, offering stunning views of the majestic Prambanan Temple and Mount Merapi. The restaurant features a luxurious take on Javanese traditional design with earthy yet lavish interiors. It offers global cuisine including Indonesian and international dishes such as Chicken Cajun, Bebek Kebuli, Oxtail Soup, Beef Wellington, and more.
Very nice place with spectacular view of Candi Prambanan and Mt. Merapi (when the sky is clear). All of the food was great and nicely presented. Kudos to all of the staffs especially Mr. Ahmed (sales banquet), Ms. Sofie (sales executive), Ms. Dini (PIC on duty at the day of our event), chefs, and the super helpful and friendly security team. I recommend this place to do gathering/event, even for a simple dine in experience.

Abhayagiri Restaurant is one of my favorites. The food and drinks are all delicious, and the area is huge and perfect for Instagram photos. We can dine indoors with air conditioning or on the terrace, where we love to sit and take in the view. If you have kids, the kids also enjoy horseback riding and interacting with the pigeons and guinea fowl. Dont worry,, the car park is massive.

Food is like just ok for their Indonesia fare…. service wise - staff not very attentive as there’s hardly anyone stationed at the outdoor dining area…. Ordered all our food at once and dessert was served before our main course… not asked not told about it… when asked if this can be served later, we were told it’s already made… process could have been better … Saving grace is the view.

The place has stunning views of Yogyakarta! But I’d recommend to come in the morning for breakfast/brunch or at the evening for tea time or dinner, otherwise the weather would be too hot. The food is taking a long time to come. The staff is helpful, but only to some selected groups. It’s incredibly pricey, but perhaps the views compensate the price.

Plaosan Lor Temple is part of a 9th-century complex featuring numerous buildings, stupas, and shrines. It is the largest complex of its kind in Indonesia, comprising 240 temples including the Hindu temple of Prambanan and the Mahayana Buddhist Sewu, Plaosan, and Bubrah. The ornate ancient architecture offers a mesmerizing experience as knowledgeable guides share captivating stories and legends.
Nestled amidst lush rice fields near Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Candi Plaosan stands as a testament to timeless love and architectural splendor. Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, the Prambanan Temple, this hidden gem offers a serene and intimate experience, making it an ideal destination for couples seeking a romantic retreat. Built in the 9th century, Candi Plaosan is renowned for its unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist architectural elements, symbolizing the harmonious union of different cultures. The temple complex is divided into two main structures: Plaosan Lor (North Plaosan) and Plaosan Kidul (South Plaosan), each adorned with intricate carvings and statues that narrate ancient tales of devotion and artistry. One of the most enchanting aspects of Candi Plaosan is its tranquil ambiance. Unlike the bustling tourist spots, this temple remains relatively undiscovered, allowing visitors to explore its beauty without the usual crowds. The surrounding verdant landscape, combined with the temple’s majestic stone structures, creates a picturesque setting, especially during sunrise or sunset when the soft light casts a golden hue over the temple grounds. For couples, a visit to Candi Plaosan can be a deeply romantic experience. Strolling hand in hand through the temple’s courtyards, taking in the serene atmosphere, and marveling at the ancient architecture can create lasting memories. The temple’s history, believed to be a monument of love, adds an extra layer of significance for those sharing the experience with a loved one. While Prambanan Temple is undoubtedly a masterpiece worth visiting, incorporating Candi Plaosan into your itinerary offers a unique and intimate perspective on Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Its off-the-beaten-path allure provides a peaceful escape, allowing visitors to connect more deeply with the site’s historical and spiritual essence.
M. M — Google review
Located in the eastern part of Yogyakarta, this temple offers a serene escape not far from the famous Prambanan Temple. Often referred to as Candi Kembar (Twin Temples), it presents a unique and peaceful atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the grandeur of its more famous neighbor. Despite its relatively modest scale, the temple’s charm lies in its quiet surroundings and the spiritual ambiance that gently embraces every visitor. The temple complex is well-maintained, with clean and neat paths that make exploring the site a pleasant experience. The view around the temple is truly breathtaking, with lush greenery and open skies adding to its tranquil appeal. As a Buddhist temple, it holds spiritual significance for practicing Buddhists, who often come here to pray and meditate. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this site offers a beautiful blend of culture and serenity.

Coffee store
Wedang Kopi Prambanan is a Javanese restaurant that offers classic dishes, coffee, and snacks in a traditional setting with outdoor seating. The restaurant's ethnic atmosphere is evident from its exterior, featuring a joglo-shaped dining area, garden lights, and traditional ornaments like an old bicycle. Additionally, there's a calming ambiance with a lake and fountain in the middle of the garden. It's an ideal place to unwind after exploring Prambanan.
t's located on Manisrenggo main street, Prambanan. The parking lot is spacious enough for several cars. The building has a Joglo-style design with a semi-open concept. In the center is a fish pond with large and numerous koi fish. Some tables and chairs are in the open air, while others are shaded. There's a large stage with a complete sound system, allowing bands and singers to perform. The music genres vary, and the service runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. We were there during a keroncong music performance, and we even managed to sing a few songs. The menu is also varied, we ordered Avocado Ice, Teler Ice, Mendoan, and Crispy Cassava. We didn't have to wait long for our orders to arrive. The service and staff are good and friendly, and the prices are quite affordable. Please enjoy the photos.

Beautiful and unique place. There is a mini playground and fish tank. We arrived at lunchtime and it was very crowded that we need to wait. In the morning, the food apparently prasmanan type. We ordered the fried menus and its very very very veryyy oily that my throat hurt afterwards.

The atmosphere here is absolutely delightful—serene and cool, thanks to its location amidst rice fields and numerous trees. The place is also very aesthetic and Instagram-worthy. The service is quick and friendly. However, the food is quite average—not exceptional, but not bad either. For the price, maybe it's a bit pricey compared to other cafe around, but it's worth it for the ambiance.

We came in a group of three around late afternoon, the buffet food was already cold, but my friends order two made meals which they thought were good. The live music volume was too loud if you sit near the stage although you can have a good view.

This place provides a traditional ambience with its semi outdoor traditional Javanese Omah design as their main attraction. The place was very clean which is a huge plus for me. The list of food and beverages that they offer consist of a wide variety of traditional Javanese cuisines. The taste of the food was okay. Sorry to say there was nothing special about the food which I ordered. Especially the Garang Asem. It could've been better. Now the bevs. The choices were also a lot. And everybody on my table was happy with their order. All the wedhangan was very nice. And good service as well. One additional note: The music volume from the live music entertainment could still get better adjustment. It was too loud for an acoustic band.

A pleasant stop over before a tour of nearby temples. Lovely deco and soothing ambience with outdoor dining area overlooking the greenery of paddy fields. Lots of photo spots for those beautiful snapshots. Food was great with assortments of light snacks and also rice with various Javanese dishes. Love their papaya leaves and flowers salad which was unexpectedly not bitter at all. Parking area was more than adequate with a larger space across the road from the places. Enjoyed the ambience and the food and for those looking for a place to sit back and enjoy the calm while sipping a hot cup of coffee, this is the place to be.👍😁

Nestled just a short 10-minute stroll from the renowned Prambanan, Sewu Temple is a hidden gem that often gets overshadowed by its more famous neighbors like Borobudur and Candi Prambanan. This remarkable Buddhist temple complex dates back to the 8th century and boasts over 200 smaller temples that create an enchanting maze of alleys and secluded spots waiting to be discovered.
Visited Candi Sewu with the family as part of our must-do temple trip during the school holidays. It was our first time doing a temple tour in Central Java — we started with Borobudur, then headed to Candi Sewu, which is in the same complex as Prambanan. The temple complex is fascinating, full of historical vibes and legendary stories. It was such a great experience exploring Candi Sewu, especially seeing the ancient reliefs and realizing why it’s called “Sewu” (meaning “a thousand”) — there are so many temples there! Taking kids to historical sites like this is a fun way for them to learn about Indonesia’s rich culture and compare what they see with what they learn in school books. Must visit sites of temples in central java with plenty of greenery around the complex. 🅿️ Plenty parking spots 🚻 Clean and have several toilets around

Not as impressive as the nearby Prambanan but still really awesome place to witness. It's included in your Prambanan ticket but much less crowded than the Prambanan temple. You can climb all the monument and enter rooms at will. As of September 2025 there's quite a few structures that are undergoing restoration so you may see construction materials.

One of the two that you can't miss when visiting Prambanan temple complex. It's a mixed temple of both Buddhist n Hindu influences. A bit far from its peers as it's located at the right back of the complex but quiet at time during the day. As the entrance ticket covers this one, you are recommended to visit all, at least this candi.

Beautiful Buddhist Temple with Hindu Influence. 2nd largest Buddhist temple after Borobudur in Indonesia. Sadly most of the original Buddha heads have been looted from the site but nonetheless we are in awe of how magnificent this complex was during the 8th Century Shailendra Dynasty

Absolutely fascinating. We preferred this to Prambanan as it was much less busy and the entry fee was included in the ticket for Prambanan. The entrance at the South side says closed but you just need to go round to the East side (to the right) to enter. You can walk inside the temples and get some brilliant photos. So amazing to think that years ago there were 249 temples!

Candi Bubrah is a smaller but well-preserved Buddhist temple located within the Prambanan temple complex. It may not be as famous as other temples in the area, but it offers a serene and pleasant atmosphere for visitors to explore. Built during the Shailendra dynasty, this temple reflects both Hinduism and Buddhism due to its historical background. Not as big as the two gigantic temple complexes that straddle it, but it is a large building that is fairly complete/restored. Big plus, almost no tourists go out of their way to see it. When you're there chances are that you'll have the temple to yourself.

A small but extremely beautiful Buddhist temple in the Prambanan temple complex. You can hire a 2 wheeler inside the complex to go around or walk as well. The walk is pleasant and beautiful. It is built during Shailendra dynasty during the reign of Rakai Panangkaran, who changed his religion from Hinduism to Buddhism. May be that is the reason that this temple philosophically resembles Hinduism as well as Buddhism. You can spend dome time here while in Prambanan temple complex.

Beautiful buddha temple built around 9th century and located in the same complex of vanished monastery has impressive sanctum tower made of central stupa surrounded by lower layer of eight stupas and further supported by layer of 16 stupas symbolically path to Nirvana or renunciation on the top.The shape of stupa or bell shaped symbolically modified from the hindu phallic lingam of shiva replacing the yoni with heavenly dome and renunciation is the only way to the top is the whole essence and purpose of teaching to escape the sorrow of life which follows as a shadow for the material pleasures and dual nature of useless human concepts.

Museum Candi Prambanan offers visitors a deeper understanding of the archaeological finds in the temple and its surroundings. The museum provides information on the history of the Prambanan temple from ancient times to the present, showcasing numerous statues and artifacts. Additionally, visitors can watch "Cosmic Harmony," a 30-minute film that depicts how the original temple site would have appeared in ancient times.
The Prambanan Temple Museum is a museum located within the Prambanan Temple Tourist Park Complex. This joglo-shaped museum contains a collection of historical and valuable objects in the form of statues, artifacts, pottery, pictures of the structure of the Shiva Temple, animal fossils and the legend of Roro Jonggrang. This museum complex is divided into three exhibition rooms, an audio visual room, two pavilions and an outdoor museum which contains many statues. If you happen to be visiting Prambanan Temple, don't miss visiting this museum so that your insight into Prambanan Temple and Javanese culture becomes wider.

The Prambanan Museum (Museum Candi Prambanan) is an absolute must-see for anyone visiting the Prambanan Temple complex. It’s located within the Prambanan Temple Tourist Park, just a short walk from the main temple area, and offers an in-depth look into the rich history and cultural significance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the museum, you’ll find detailed exhibits about the temple’s architecture, restoration, and symbolism. There are beautifully preserved stone carvings, ancient statues, inscriptions, and fragments that help visitors understand how Prambanan was built and what each structure represents. The museum also highlights the story of Lord Shiva, to whom the main temple is dedicated, along with the Hindu Trimurti — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — which are central to Prambanan’s design. What’s great about the museum is how it connects the mythological, architectural, and historical context of the temple complex. Visiting here before or after exploring the temples gives you a much deeper appreciation for what you’re seeing — from the symbolism in each relief to the engineering behind its construction. It’s quiet, informative, and well-maintained — a perfect stop for anyone who wants to go beyond sightseeing and truly understand the story behind Prambanan’s magnificence.

Better to google the history of Prambanan, it's more pleasant than to visit this museum especially for foreign visitors because English explanations are lacking. Some nice pieces to see but the museum rooms are also not very well kept and look and feel dated and very aged. A makeover could do wonders and better so justice to the amazing site and also nice museum grounds, the garden is beautiful. The entrance is included in the general temple site ticket.

You have to go to Pawon Prambanan if you are in the area! It is well located, the restaurant is lovely, the team is professional & welcoming, and the food is delicious. They make the best Rawon we’ve had in Indonesia.

Indonesian restaurant
Omah Eyang Resto offers a traditional dining experience in a charming wooden pavilion surrounded by gardens and ponds. It's an ideal spot for enjoying lunch or dinner with the whole family, offering affordable prices and a beautiful view of Merapi's peak on clear afternoons. The spacious Javanese-designed restaurant is perfect for family gatherings, with delicious food and reasonable prices. The ambiance is reminiscent of visiting grandma's house, making it a delightful place to dine with loved ones.
Highly recommended place close to Prambanan temple. The food was tasty and people working there were really nice. Toilets were a bit dirty but I would stop again of I ever come back for a Nasi Goreng

Always find an ethnic place to eat when you're in Yogyakarta, one of which is this place, with a joglo house concept with a typical Indonesian food menu, it's definitely very suitable for gathering together to eat with family, friends or co-workers, it's just that in between us eating there are lots of cats hanging around. , just a suggestion, if someone is allergic to cats, it will make lunch or dinner uncomfortable, it's best to keep cats without being thrown around the restaurant.

I was surprised on how tasty the dishes are. Just the right portion too. Some cooking are just a little but too oily for me though. The great thing about this place I have to say would be the spacious resto with a well designed Javanese look. Great for family dining.

Omah Eyang Resto has a wide dine-in area, good to have a meal with your family. Special menu of this place is Ayam Ingkung (Ayam kampung utuh). You can have it in original or bumbu rujak version. Good taste.. This place also has a large parking area..
