Ujjain in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Ujjain, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ujjain is one of Hinduism’s seven sacred cities, drawing pilgrims to the revered Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple and the ghats along the Shipra River. The city hosts the Simhastha Kumbh Mela every 12 years, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. Visitors can also explore the 18th-century Vedh Shala observatory, built by Maharaja Jai Singh II, which reflects Ujjain’s historic role as an astronomical center. Narrow lanes, traditional markets and numerous ancient temples give the city a deeply rooted spiritual and cultural atmosphere.
With favorites like Mangalnath Mandir, Mahakal Lok, and Maharishi Sandipani Ashram, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Apna Sweets and Angara Restaurant so you can get the best taste of Ujjain while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple

4.8
(157057)
Hindu temple
Nestled in the historic city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple stands as a revered sanctuary dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dating back to possibly the 6th century B.C., this three-story temple is one of India's twelve Jyotirlingas and holds immense spiritual significance for Hindu pilgrims.
The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain offers an unforgettable blend of devotion, energy, and divine calm that touches every visitor. The moment you step in, chants of Har Har Mahadev and the sight of devotees in deep prayer create an atmosphere that feels timeless. The early morning Bhasma Aarti is a must-see — performed with sacred ash, it’s a mesmerizing ritual that requires prior online or offline booking. Cleanliness inside the temple has improved, with dedicated staff maintaining order, though outer lanes can still get crowded. For convenience, there’s a fast-lane entry (₹250) that saves significant time, especially during Sawan or Mondays. This line gives you the closest view of Mahakaal. Facilities like shoe stands, clean drinking water, cloakrooms, and washrooms are available near the main gate. Battery-operated vehicles and wheelchair assistance make it easier for elderly or differently-abled pilgrims to move around. Nearby, Mahakal Lok Corridor offers wide walkways, guided signage in multiple languages, and resting areas with shade. Entry and exit are now well-managed with clear direction boards and police assistance. Whether you’re a spiritual seeker or a curious traveler, the temple’s organization, improved amenities, and divine presence together make the visit both seamless and soul-stirring.

One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, Mahakaleshwar Temple offers a powerful spiritual experience and a deep sense of divine presence. The temple’s ancient architecture and serene energy make it a must-visit for devotees and travellers alike. The highlight is the Bhasma Aarti, a unique ritual performed early morning; attending it feels truly divine and unforgettable. Crowd management is generally well handled, especially during peak hours, ensuring a smooth darshan without excessive waiting. The temple complex is clean, well-maintained, and organized, with clear directions for devotees. Special queues for darshan help reduce the rush, and the staff is polite and cooperative. The lingam in the Garbhagriha radiates immense spiritual vibration — spending even a few moments there feels deeply calming. The surrounding area is filled with shops for prasad, flowers, and souvenirs at reasonable prices. Mobile phones are not allowed inside, ensuring peace and focus on the divine atmosphere. The nearby Kaal Bhairav Temple and Shipra river ghats make the visit even more fulfilling. Overall, a deeply enriching spiritual destination where tradition, faith, and great management come together perfectly. A must-visit for anyone seeking peace, devotion, and a connection to the ancient heritage of Ujjain.

I recently visited Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, and it was an incredible experience! Our darshan was smooth and spiritually uplifting, thanks to the VIP passes we booked online, which took us around 30 minutes to complete. However, I was prepared for crowds, given that we visited on 23rd Oct 2025, during Diwali vacation. If you're planning to visit, I recommend booking VIP darshan tickets online to avoid long wait times, but if you're okay with waiting, regular darshan is also available. This was my first time visiting the temple, and I was blown away by the peaceful and divine atmosphere. The temple environment is truly one-of-a-kind. For car parking, there's a designated spot, but considering the crowds, I suggest taking an auto instead, as parking can be a challenge. Overall, it's a must-visit destination at least once in your lifetime. The experience is truly unforgettable!

A Serene and Divine End to the Day! Attending the Shayan Aarti at Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple was a truly soul-stirring experience. The atmosphere at night is incredibly peaceful, and as the temple lights dimmed and the final rituals began, I felt a deep sense of calm and devotion. The hymns and the sight of the final shringar of the Mahakal Jyotirlinga before the curtains closed was a powerful, beautiful, and unforgettable moment. Highly recommend this unique night-time Darshan for a feeling of profound spiritual bliss.

I visited Ujjain Mahakali (Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga) on a solo trip, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and divine experiences of my life. The temple atmosphere is filled with strong spiritual energy just being there brings a sense of calm and connection. The darshan was well-organized, and the staff were helpful throughout. Even though I traveled alone, I felt completely safe and comfortable. The positive energy inside the sanctum is something you can truly feel — it’s beyond words. After the visit, I spent some quiet time at the Shipra River Ghat, watching the evening aarti it was a perfect way to end the day. Ujjain is not just a pilgrimage; it’s a spiritual experience that stays with you. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, clarity, or self-connection. 🙏 Om Namah Shivaya 🙏

Absolutely stunning and awesome location depicting Hindu culture and it's deities in all their glory. The place is designed and maintained to international standards. It can get quite hot during the day. A little bit more shade can be provided. Unfortunately we missed the evening time which I'm sure would have been even more epic. Totally worth it and must see attraction Note on new development - Backpacks / Big bags are not allowed. We could not enter with it and had to make extra trip to hotel to keep our bags.

🔱 Mahakal Lok, Ujjain – Majestic and Mythological Visiting the Mahakal Lok corridor was a truly spectacular and divine experience. This isn't just a walkway; it’s a living exhibition of Indian mythology, dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva. The sheer scale and grandeur are breathtaking. Highlights include the beautifully carved 108 pillars, and the magnificent statues of Shiva and the Saptarishis, which bring ancient stories to life. The art installations are world-class. Seeing the complex illuminated in the evening, with the fountains, is a truly magical spectacle. It significantly enhances the spiritual journey to the Mahakaleshwar Temple. A must-see destination!

I am from Mumbai and came to visit Mahakal Mahalok. A place must visit. There are light and sound show, laser show. There is virtual darshan of mahakal temple and linga that in my childhood we used to see in reality. The only concern I think must be shared too for authority to take action is the gents toilet which was not maintained properly.

Gopal Mandir, located in Ujjain, is a 19th-century temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The shrine showcases Maratha architecture and features a silver-coated idol of Krishna on a marble-inlaid altar with silver-plated doors. Situated in the midst of a bustling market square, the temple offers visitors an opportunity to explore its religious and historical significance while being surrounded by street-market stalls.
The main temple has a two-feet tall statue of Lord Krishna made up of silver coated marble. In addition to Lord Krishna's idol, there are also idols of Lord Shiva, Parvati and Garuda. Janmashtami and Harihar Parva are celebrated with great pomp in this temple complex. In the Harihar Parva, images of Mahakaleshwar jyotirlinga are brought in to meet Lord Krishna. The doors of Gopal Mandir are said to have been stolen by Mahmud of Ghazni. These were later restored by Mahadji Scindia.

Very beautiful temple of krishnaji. It gives you a feel of ancient temples. Well maintained and peaceful atmosphere. Very vibrant and colorful. It has parikrama space outside enough for 1 person at a time. It gives a old , slow life vibes with no voice inside premises even though it is located in market area with heavy traffic. It has enough space to sit around , a good angan and rooms around. It has no waiting area and you can sit as much as you can without anyone bothering you. Must visit once if you visit ujjain.

a must-visit when you're in ujjain. the ghat is spacious and has a calm vibe. we went both in the morning and evening, and surprisingly it was not too crowded even though it was a weekend. if you're planning to take a dip, morning is the best time. it is quiet and relaxing but the water isn’t very clean, so go in with that awareness. we also attended the evening aarti, which was quite immersive. i would definitely recommend just sitting by the river for a while. it is the kind of place where you can slow down and really feel the energy of mahakal.

It is believed that Goddess Parvati appeared here to restore Lord Shiva’s powers. The temple is known for its striking red-painted idols of Annapurna, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. Nivedita — Google review
The Shree Harsiddhi Shaktipith Temple, located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the 51 sacred Shaktipithas of Goddess Shakti and a major pilgrimage center for devotees of the Divine Mother. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Harsiddhi Mata, a powerful form of Goddess Parvati, and holds deep spiritual importance in Hinduism, symbolizing divine energy, victory, and protection. According to ancient legend, the temple’s origins trace back to the Shakti Peetha myth from the Devi Bhagavata Purana. When Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva, immolated herself at her father Daksha’s yagna, an enraged Shiva carried her body and performed the Tandava, the dance of destruction. To pacify him, Lord Vishnu released his Sudarshan Chakra, cutting Sati’s body into 51 pieces, which fell across various parts of India — each spot becoming a sacred Shakti Peetha. It is believed that Sati’s elbow (or upper arm) fell at Ujjain, sanctifying the site as the Harsiddhi Shaktipith. In this temple, Goddess Harsiddhi is worshipped along with Mahakali and Mahalakshmi, symbolizing strength, wealth, and wisdom — the three essential powers of the Goddess. The main deity, Harsiddhi Mata, is depicted in a dark vermilion-colored idol, signifying her fierce and protective nature. The Harsiddhi Temple also holds a strong association with Lord Shiva. According to another legend, when Lord Shiva was destroying demons, he sought help from Goddess Parvati. She appeared as Harsiddhi Mata and helped him defeat the powerful demon brothers Chanda and Munda, earning the name “Harsiddhi” — meaning “the one who grants all siddhis (powers) and success.” Hence, this temple stands as a symbol of divine victory and protection. The temple’s architecture reflects Maratha influence, with the current structure believed to have been renovated during the reign of Maratha ruler Ranoji Shinde in the 18th century. Two majestic deep stambhs (lamp towers) stand at the temple’s entrance, beautifully lit with hundreds of lamps during Navratri, creating a mesmerizing sight. Harsiddhi Mata is considered the Kuldevi (family goddess) of the Scindia royal family, who contributed to the temple’s maintenance and grandeur. The temple is also closely connected to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, located nearby, forming part of the sacred spiritual circuit of Ujjain. Today, the Shree Harsiddhi Shaktipith Temple continues to be a center of immense devotion, where thousands of devotees visit daily to seek the Goddess’s blessings for strength, prosperity, and victory over life’s challenges. Temple Timings: • Morning: 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM • Evening: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The Harsiddhi Temple in Ujjain is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the elbow of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. This temple is also known as the place of penance of King Vikramaditya and is named "Harsiddhi” because he attained many siddhis through the worship of the Mother Goddess. The temple houses idols of three goddesses: Annapurna, Harsiddhi and Kalka. There is a huge and famous Deep Stambh built in the courtyard of the temple, on which lamps are lit during Navratri and other special occasions.

It is known for its evening aarti, which features two large pillars with thousands of lamps lit in the evening. The temple was built by King Vikramaditya and is having a rich history and spiritual atmosphere. Date visited: 20.10.2025

Witnessed the traditional lighting of oil lamps at Shree Harsiddhi Mata Temple in Ujjain. At the entrance of the temple are two large lamp towers with hundreds of lamps. At around 6:30 pm every evening these lamps are lit by temple staff. They climb up the oily lamp tower and all these lamps are lit within around 3 minutes. Must be some sort of a record. The place is next to Ujjain Mahakaal temple and gets crowded around 30 minutes before the start of the event, as it is very popular among tourist who visit Ujain. Around 1 minute 20 seconds into the video, you will notice how fast the staff is lighting up the oil lamps. Remember the temple itself is many centuries old and its history is linked to Emperor Vikramaditya. The oil tower is itself slippery because of all the oil.

Jantar Mantar in Ujjain is an 18th-century observatory established by Savai Raja Jay Singh, featuring vintage astronomical devices like the Samrat Yantra and Digansha Yantra. This historical site serves as an equinoctial sundial, aiding in time detection and celestial body positioning. It stands as evidence of Ujjain's long-standing reputation as an educational hub.
Jantar Mantar in Ujjain is an ancient astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It is one of five such observatories in India, designed for precise astronomical measurements. The site features large stone instruments used to observe celestial movements, measure time, and predict eclipses. Notable instruments include the Samrat Yantra and the Nadi Valaya Yantra. Very good scenes in this place. I was very delighted to see the view here. Here the traditional clock and time which has been in existence since the Vedic period is known with complete accuracy. Please come here once with your family.
Prince S — Google review
If you are planning to visit Jantar Mantar (Vedh Shala) after Mahakaleshwar Darshan, it is quite convenient because the observatory is located at a short distance from the temple. After completing your darshan at Mahakaal, you can simply take an auto-rickshaw from outside the temple premises. Normally, the distance is around 2 km, and it hardly takes 10–15 minutes to reach, but autos in Ujjain generally charge a minimum of ₹100, even for short distances. If you are walking, it will take about 20–25 minutes through the narrow streets. The Jantar Mantar is open during the day and is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. The entry fee is very nominal, usually around ₹10 for Indian visitors and a little more for foreign tourists and ₹ 20 for Tara Mandal. Once inside, you can explore the unique astronomical instruments built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 17th century. Guides are also available, and they explain how these instruments were used to calculate time, predict eclipses, and study planetary movements with surprising accuracy long before modern technology. For travelers who are already in Ujjain for Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Darshan, a visit to Jantar Mantar makes the trip more fulfilling, as it connects spirituality with India’s scientific heritage. Since both attractions are close, you don’t need separate travel arrangements

Apna Sweets is a popular eatery located near the Mahakaleshwar temple, offering homely food with a focus on Jain cuisine. The hygiene and spacious seating are notable, and patrons appreciate the option to share thali meals. However, some customers have reported slow service and occasional rudeness from staff members. The menu primarily features thali meals, with limited options for ordering individual dishes.
Good place for fooding at near Mahakal temple. It is in the main market in front of the temple. Taste & Food quality is good. You will get all the menu options. Only sitting space is congested, however still a good option near temple. Price is also reasonable. Must try during visit.

3 star for the attitude of the person sitting at the counter. Otherwise the place had good food compared to the ones in this area. Its on the Mahakaal Marg, so pretty convenient after darshan.

Highly not recommended!!! Thsy will keep you waiting. Not run by owner so no one cares if you are being entertained or not. You come get tea for yourself keep waiting wave your hands to the waiter several time , it's your fate of they see you waving. Poor food quality too much spice, salt and everything. Only good thing out there is water.

Not so great but food was decent as per reviews we ordered choke Bhati re which was good. Pav bhaji is ok but the breads are too huge compared to what you get at other place. We loved the sandwiches and thali was decent too.

I stopped by Apna Sweets Veg Restaurant on Mahakaal Marg, Ujjain, for a quick bite. I tried their Poha, which was decent in terms of taste. While it may not be the best Poha I've had, Apna Sweets is a good option for a quick snack or meal. The restaurant offers a variety of veg options, making it a convenient choice for vegetarians. If you're in the area and looking for a hassle-free dining experience, Apna Sweets is worth a visit. Recommended for: Quick bites, snacks, and veg food. Location: Mahakaal Marg, Ujjain

If you have another option please select that one, not here. Worthless food, tasteless... Waste of money and hunger destroyer , a pic attached sambhar with too much kachara and flatu things. Highly disappointed

1. Location - This restaurant is in crowded place in front of Mahakaleshwar temple. 2. Order details - We had ordered one premium thali, chole bhature, chach, and in breakfast ordered from Swiggy poha, jalebi, idli sambhar. 3. Taste - Premium thali quantity was good received 3 roti and 2 parathe and enough vegetables, taste was good. Chaach tastes good but quantity was less considering price (30rs). Chole bhature was very oily so it was not that good in taste. Poha and jalebi was the best one to order during breakfast it tastes so nice, quantity was also good and these are must try dishes from this restaurant , everyone who is visiting Ujjain should try poha jalebi from apna restaurant. Idli sambhar not recommended at all, idli size was very big and it was very hard and sambhar is also tasteless so avoid this from this restaurant. One issue while ordering from Swiggy I have faced, ordered chach and lassi with poha as well but not received from the delivery partner, faced this issue 3 times while my stay in Ujjain. 4. Ambiance & pricing - It is a crowded restaurant and you need to wait to find a seat here also it is normal restaurant not that great ambiance, food preparation service is slow because of huge orders, and this is self service restaurant. Pricing was average not that high and quantity was also good.

i would have given -5 star if that was an option. Such disgusting and inedible food, every one left the food untouched in their plates, if this is the kind of service you give you might as well shut down the restaurant. The chef should learn to make dahi ke kebab, it tasted like shrikhand and the paneer had heaps of red chilli so as to ensure that no one ate the paneer. we were let down in front of our guests. You are charging premium for such disastrous food . This inedible food costed us 1000 bucks. I would request everyone not to order from the restaurant if you want your food to edible.

Nestled in the heart of Ujjain, the Shri Kaal Bhairav Temple stands as a vibrant testament to Hindu devotion and culture. This sacred site is dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva and revered as the city's guardian deity. A unique aspect of this temple is its ritualistic offering of liquor, symbolizing devotees' surrendering of their vices to the divine.
Kaal Bhairav Mandir, Ujjain – A powerful and unique temple where devotees offer liquor to Lord Kaal Bhairav. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual and energetic. There’s a strong vibration of protection and strength in this place it’s unlike any other temple I’ve visited. I left feeling spiritually charged and peaceful at the same time. If you’re visiting Ujjain, don’t miss this temple. It’s a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the divine power and mystery of Lord Kal Bhairav. 🙏 Jai Kal Bhairav 🙏

Visiting Shree Kal Bhairav Temple was one of the most powerful and unforgettable spiritual experiences of my life. The temple, dedicated to **Lord Kal Bhairav**, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva, holds immense religious significance and deep mystical energy. As soon as I entered the temple premises, I could feel a strong sense of devotion and divine presence. The rhythmic chants of “Jai Kal Bhairav” and the fragrance of incense created an atmosphere filled with energy and peace. The main idol of Lord Kal Bhairav, decorated with flowers and sacred offerings, looked truly divine and awe-inspiring. One of the unique aspects of this temple is the tradition of offering **liquor** to Lord Kal Bhairav as *prasadam*. It’s said that the liquor disappears mysteriously when offered to the deity — a sight that fills devotees with wonder and faith. Witnessing this ritual was a fascinating experience that reflected the temple’s deep spiritual heritage. The priests and devotees were very humble and welcoming. Despite the temple being crowded, the atmosphere remained calm and devotional. I spent some time sitting quietly, feeling the powerful vibrations of the place. It gave me a sense of inner strength and peace, as if Lord Kal Bhairav himself was watching over and protecting me. Overall, my visit to Shree Kal Bhairav Temple was truly divine a perfect blend of mystery, faith, and spirituality. It’s not just a temple; it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.

Spiritual place, Kal Bhairavnath Temple Kal Bhairavnath Temple is a truly spiritual place where one can feel instant peace and positivity. Sukh, shanti, and divine energy – everything is here. The atmosphere is calm, the surroundings are clean, and the vibrations are very powerful for those who come with faith and devotion. Darshan can take time, especially on weekends. On Saturday and Sunday, the waiting time can easily go up to around 2 hours due to the heavy crowd. However, the experience of finally getting Darshan of Kal Bhairavnath feels absolutely worth the wait. If possible, try to visit on weekdays or during non-peak hours to get a more relaxed and peaceful Darshan without too much rush. Overall, a must-visit temple for anyone seeking inner peace, blessings, and a strong spiritual connectio

I just went to the Kal Bhairav Temple. The Kal Bhairav Temple is one of Ujjain's most powerful and mystical temples, dedicated to Lord Kal Bhairav, the fierce form of Lord Shiva. The atmosphere here is deeply spiritual and energetic. The temple is especially famous for its unique offering – liquor – which devotees traditionally offer to the deity. The temple's architecture is simple yet ancient, and you can see glimpses of history in every stone. The priests perform the rituals with great devotion, and despite the heavy crowds (especially on weekends and Mahashivratri), here Come in the morning or evening for a peaceful darshan. The darshan experience is very satisfying. The surroundings are well-maintained, although parking can be a bit difficult during rush hours. The local market outside sells religious items, prasad, and souvenirs.

The Shri Kala Bhairav Mandir in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the most mysterious and powerful temples in India, dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. One of the most unique and intriguing aspects of this temple is the offering of liquor (Madira) to Lord Kala Bhairav. Devotees offer liquor directly to the deity, and astonishingly, it is believed that the idol “drinks” it — the liquid seemingly disappears when poured on its lips. This practice has been followed for centuries and continues to be a divine mystery that draws thousands of curious pilgrims and researchers alike. The temple holds immense religious and tantric significance and is considered a guardian shrine of Ujjain, one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism. According to ancient scriptures like the Shiva Purana and Avanti Khanda of Skanda Purana, Lord Shiva created Kala Bhairav to destroy ego and punish wrongdoers. When Lord Brahma grew arrogant, Shiva manifested as Bhairava and cut off one of Brahma’s five heads, symbolizing the destruction of pride. Since then, Bhairava has been worshipped as the Kshetrapal (protector) of Ujjain. Every temple in Ujjain is traditionally believed to be under the protection of one of the eight Bhairavas, with Kala Bhairav being the chief among them. The temple’s origins trace back to the Paramara dynasty, around the 8th century CE, and it is believed to have been built by King Bhadresen. Though the original temple has faced destruction and renovations over time, the present structure stands as a blend of Maratha and medieval architecture. The current temple was significantly renovated during the 18th century under Maratha rule, especially by the Scindias, who were ardent devotees of Lord Bhairav. The temple’s idol, carved from a single stone, displays a fearsome expression symbolizing the Lord’s power to destroy evil and grant protection. Despite his fierce form, devotees worship him with deep devotion, seeking his blessings for courage, justice, and the removal of negativity. The Shri Kala Bhairav Mandir comes alive during Kala Bhairav Ashtami, when thousands of devotees gather for special rituals and offerings. The temple remains a profound center of faith and mysticism, symbolizing Lord Shiva’s aspect as the eternal guardian of time and righteousness. Temple Timings: • Morning: 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM • Evening: 4:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Shri Kal Bhairav Mandir in Ujjain is a deeply spiritual and powerful place, known for its unique rituals and divine energy. Overall, it’s a must-visit for those seeking a spiritual experience with a touch of mystery.

These places have developed a lot and become good tourist attractions for getting to know about lord Krishna's childhood. *There is a unique art gallery of 64 art forms that lord krishna learnt in this gurukul " Sandipani ashram* According to mythology, it is believed that this is the ashram where Guru Sandipani used to teach Shri Krishna, his friend Sudama and Lord Krishna’s brother Balram. Ashram now looks more like a temple and three idols of Krishna, Balram and Sudama are present along with that of Guru Sandipani. There is also a stone where numerals 1 to 100 found engraved and is believed to be done by guru Sandipani himself. Parking available, shoe stand available

Ujjain Junction

4.2
(5992)
Train station
Ujjain Junction is a significant railway station in India that is well connected to other major stations across the country. It boasts cleanliness and good maintenance, although it may have fewer platforms due to its religious significance. The waiting room accommodates a limited number of people, around 20 to 25, and unfortunately, the male passengers tend to occupy the ladies waiting room. Outside the station, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Avantika, Shivling, and the Parrot Tree.
I deboarded here during my visit to Mahakaleshwar. The station appeared quite clean and well-maintained, with most of the basic amenities available. It is fairly large, with around eight platforms. However, upon exiting from the side leading to the temple, the outside area felt congested due to ongoing construction and the heavy presence of rickshaws, which often cause traffic jams.
DIPESH J — Google review
"Ujjain Junction is a well-connected railway station in Madhya Pradesh, making it a convenient entry point for pilgrims and travelers alike. The station has multiple entry points, including from Platform 1 and the backside gate near Platform 8, offering flexibility. Cleanliness is moderate, but the station is equipped with basic amenities. What's notable is the proximity to the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple, which is about 2 km (a 20-minute walk) from the station, accessible via a straightforward route from Platform 1's exit. Additionally, basic amenities like washrooms and hotels are readily available near the station, adding to the convenience for travelers. Overall, Ujjain Junction serves its purpose well for those visiting this sacred city."
Divy S — Google review
Ujjain Junction is one of the main and busiest railway stations in Madhya Pradesh, and it’s quite well-maintained. The platforms are wide, clean, and have proper seating arrangements. The station area is organized, with clear signboards and announcements that make it easy for passengers to find their trains. The location is also very convenient — it’s well-connected to the city and just a short distance from the Mahakaleshwar Temple, which is a big advantage for pilgrims and tourists. Local transport like autos and e-rickshaws are easily available outside the station. Basic amenities such as waiting rooms, restrooms, food stalls, and drinking water facilities are available and fairly clean. The staff is generally helpful, and security is decent too. Overall, Ujjain Junction offers a comfortable and safe experience for travelers visiting this holy city.
PRINCE Y — Google review
Ujjain Junction (UJN) is a bustling, well-connected A-category station in Madhya Pradesh, seamlessly linking the spiritual hub of Mahakaleshwar to India’s rail network. With 8 platforms, 206 daily trains, and modern amenities like food stalls and computerized ticketing, it’s traveler-friendly. Just 2 km from the Mahakaleshwar Temple and 53 km from Indore Airport, it’s perfect for pilgrims and tourists. Clean, organized, and awarded "Best Tourist Friendly Station" in 2017, it’s a reliable gateway to Ujjain’s sacred charm. Highly recommended for a smooth travel experience!

The Bharat Mata Temple in Ujjain offers a unique and thought-provoking experience, quite different from the typical temple visit. Instead of deities, this temple is dedicated to the personification of India as a mother goddess – Bharat Mata. Stepping inside, you're immediately struck by the imposing and intricately carved statue of Bharat Mata herself, holding a map of undivided India. The atmosphere within is less about traditional religious fervor and more about patriotic reverence. It evokes a sense of national pride and historical awareness. The walls are adorned with depictions of significant figures and events from India's history, offering a visual journey through the nation's past. While it might not be a place for conventional worship, it serves as a powerful reminder of the country's rich heritage and the sacrifices made for its freedom. The temple complex is generally well-maintained, and the serene environment allows for quiet contemplation. It's a place that encourages reflection on the unity and diversity of India. For those interested in history, culture, and a different perspective on national identity, the Bharat Mata Temple in Ujjain is definitely worth a visit. It provides a refreshing and meaningful experience beyond the usual pilgrimage.

Nestled along the serene banks of the Shipra River, the Bhartrihari Caves are a captivating ancient rock-hewn complex located in Ujjain's tranquil suburbs. Estimated to be over 2000 years old, these caves pay homage to the revered poet and philosopher Bhartrihari, who is said to have meditated here for twelve years after renouncing worldly desires.
Bhartrihari Caves, Ujjain A visit to Bhartrihari Caves takes you deep into Ujjain’s spiritual past. Nestled near the banks of the Shipra River, these ancient caves are believed to be where sage-poet Bhartrihari, the brother of King Vikramaditya, meditated after renouncing royal life. The tranquil surroundings, cool stone interiors, and faint echoes of devotional chants create a serene, reflective atmosphere. Visitors can explore the small shrines inside and feel a strong sense of timeless devotion. Best visited early morning, the site offers peace away from the city’s bustle—perfect for those seeking solitude and spiritual connection in the heart of Ujjain.

Bhartrihari Gufa (Caves) is a famous spiritual and historical site in Ujjain, associated with the great sage Maharishi Bhartrihari, the elder brother of King Vikramaditya of Ujjain. He became a disciple of Guru Gorakhnath (Nath sect) and spent the rest of his life in meditation in these caves. Inside, there are small shrines dedicated to Bhartrihari, Guru Gorakhnath, and other Nath yogis. The atmosphere is peaceful, attracting saints, sadhus, and devotees throughout the year. Around 3–4 km from Mahakaleshwar Temple.

Bhartrihari Gufa (caves) in Ujjain is a sacred cave complex on the shores of the River Kshipra, named after the legendary King Bhartrihari who is said to have meditated there for 12 years after renouncing his kingdom. The site features traditional rock-cut architecture, a tomb (samadhi) of the sage, a dhuni (fire for yoga), and is a peaceful spot for religious and historical tourism, though the narrow passages may not be suitable for everyone.

The ancient cave structure stands as a testament to the lives of people in the past, before the development of modern construction technologies. Under what circumstances did one of the great emperors encounter Saint Goraknath, receive his blessings, and learn valuable lessons about the superiority of a yogi's power, which encompasses the ability to both kill and give life, unlike the limitations of a king's authority?

Marwadi Pavitra Bhojanalay And Restaurant is a no-frills hotel restaurant located in the city of Shri Mahakaal Baba (Ujjain). The food served here is not very spicy and is popular for its vegetarian thali, which includes daily home-cooked items like dal, chawal, green veg, roti with butter, onion salad, and pickle. For those who prefer spicy food, there's a separate menu available.
A much less known hidden gem in Ujjain, close to railway station. This restaurant is in the building of a hotel, and you might need to find it with some effort even after using Google Maps. But I can say that it’ll be worth the effort. In July 2025, they charged Rs. 140 for unlimited thali that contains a decent amount of variety in terms of a typical homely lunch thali. The taste was simple yet classy. The staff was not at all fussy with repeated refills. We enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

Flowers has it's own importance & natural beauty infront it ornaments has no value...here very tasty jain foods are available which are extremely costly but very tasty. Veg roles are like complete dinner. Yes need little bit sanitation as they are using mobiles & notes in same hand serving food. Shoe stands are available. Once must visit....to feel the beauty of devotion. 🙂

ISKCON temples, found worldwide, are known for their beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere. Visitors consistently praise the peaceful environment, which offers a great escape from daily stress. A highlight for many is the lively and mesmerizing kirtan (chanting) and aarti ceremonies. The temples are well-maintained and clean, with a strong sense of community. While some critics express concerns about the organization's specific theological views, most visitors describe a welcoming and positive experience, noting the devotional energy and the opportunity for spiritual reflection. The temples also often feature vegetarian feasts (prasadam), which are a popular draw.

This is a fantastic place and must visit if one is in UJJAIN. This is completely free and due to this maintenance of the park is a challenge. It is suggested that the administration should charge a reasonable entry fees for maintaining economics of the park and also keeping unnecessary crowd away from the park. For daily visitors, administration can go for an option of monthly pass. Overall, it is a good and health concious place to visit with preparation.

Triveni Museum, located near Rudra Sagar in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is a treasure trove of ancient art and culture. The museum showcases religious idols, sculptures, and antiques that reflect the city's rich heritage. Divided into sections dedicated to different eras in Ujjain's history, the museum features Shaivayan (Shaiva gallery), Krishayan (Vaishnav gallery), and Durgayan (Shakti gallery) exhibits.
Timing : 8AM to 10 PM. (Closed on Tuesday) Tickets: Rs. 20/person & Rs. 100/ equipment for taking photos. (NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE VIDEOS) In short "PAISA WASOOL"! It will easily take you about 90 minutes on average to discover the whole museum. Once you purchase tickets from the center counter, you will also get a temporary ID card for the tour as well. While you enter, the gatekeeper will check your ticket to let you inside the museum. There are about 6-7 different halls/sections divided to discover one after the other. Beautiful ancient sculptures, paintings, and more to explore. Especially, when you step up from the ground to the 1st floor it's a JAW DROPPING experience. The 1st floor is one of the main creativity sections, it's a different world together. There is a separate shop to buy antique items on the ground floor. They also ask for your feedback when you leave the museum and ask you to write down your experience on their visitors diary as well. JUST LOVED IT ❤.... Must visit in Ujjain 🤘

It has a nice collection of Hindu Mythology statues and Art Work, alongwith coin collection as well. But what stood out among All this was the Pathetic behaviour of Staff who were constantly following My family like Creeps. There was not a single female security personnel in the premises. Also what is the point of ticket checking at entrance if every single security personnel inside the museum will keep asking about it. I have Never felt such threatened for safety of my family. Will NOT AT ALL RECOMMEND to visit after dark if you have a women alongwith you.

The museum has fascinating artifacts and is perfect for exploring history and culture. The only negative aspect of this place is its staff that ruins the experience. Despite paying ₹100 for camera access, they constantly hover to prevent recording and behave discourteously toward visitors- the very guests whose money supports their livelihood, especially the person handling the top floor.

If you're into arts, history, spirituality and architecture thn Triveni Museum is the best place to experience our ruch cultural and architectural heritage and design. The museum hosts various statues ranging from prehistoric era, beautifully crafted and in a well preserved condition. The art gallery exhibits some of the very fine and detailed paintings. Museum also has a small souvenir shop where the visitors can buy books or metal statues. It take almost couple of hours when you are a keen observer and ardent art lover. Overall, an interesting place which one can definitely can't miss during Mahakaleshwar visit. The only thing which can be added up are: more sitting areas specially for elderly persons within the premises, provision for drinking water on upper floor, non working AC's are a bit trouble specially on the first floor.

Shree Bada Ganesh Mandir

Hindu temple
When in the sacred city of Ujjain, a visit to Shree Bada Ganesh Mandir is a must. This revered Hindu shrine is home to one of the largest idols of Lord Ganesha, standing at 18 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Situated near the Mahakaleshwar Temple, it also features a statue of Hanuman that predates the idol of Lord Ganesha. The temple's spiritual ambiance and impressive architecture attract both devotees and tourists.
Bada Ganesh Mandir is located very close to the Mahakaleshwar temple and is directly across from the Mahakal entry gate number 4. At the entrance, there is a large statue of Bada Ganesh, and inside, you will find Panchamukhi Hanuman Statue. We visited Mahakumbh and there was no wait time at all.

Visited Shree Bada Ganesh Mandir recently. The temple has great spiritual importance in Ujjain. The idol of Lord Ganesha is really huge and impressive. You can feel a peaceful vibe the moment you enter. Architecture is traditional and holds cultural value. The location is central and easy to find via Google Maps. However, the surrounding area feels a bit congested. There’s limited parking space, especially during rush hours. Cleanliness could be improved, especially around the entrance. Footwear management is a bit unorganized. There are usually many visitors, which creates long queues. Despite the crowd, darshan was smooth after a short wait. Local shops outside the temple add to the charm but create noise. The temple premises are not very well-maintained. Some walls and areas look old and need restoration. Priests were available, but a few seemed in a hurry. It would be nice if there were signboards with historical info. Lighting inside the mandir was decent but could be better. Aarti experience was good but not very memorable. Not much seating area available for elderly people. Overall, it’s a good place to visit once for spiritual reasons. With better cleanliness and management, it could be great. It holds sentimental and religious value for many.

I am a frequent visitor to mahakal, from last 10yrs. Initially this hotel was good, however in recent visits the quality was gone down significantly. If you are looking for to explore Dal bafla in budget, then only visit.

Vegetarian restaurant
Shalimar Family Restaurant, located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is a popular dining spot offering a diverse selection of cuisines and dishes. The restaurant is known for its cleanliness and hygienic environment. It's particularly renowned for its chicken dishes and also offers diet meals for health-conscious diners. Customers can enjoy non-vegetarian delicacies and even order through delivery services like Swiggy. One of the highly recommended specialties is the Hyderabadi dum biryani.

Good restaurant for nonveg services

Though location was good the entrance was not. Food was very tangy. They should stop using Hyderabad's before biryani when it tastes nothing like it. Disappointed to know the item available at the restaurant is not available in Zomato.

Love to taste chicken here , as this place already known for their food. For fitness lover, there is also diet meal available here. In ujjain, best place to eat non veg here.

Shalimar restaurant is located on Dewas Road near Lotus Electronics. I have visited here 3 times and everytime the service was a bit slow. Food is good not great. Prices are a bit on a higher side but affordable. The tableware they use is of low quality melamine and looks very old and disgusting and makes your mood off instantly. You will not feel like eating in it at all. The waiters are well behaved but dress in old and soiled clothes and looks like they have not taken bath from few days. All in all my advice to my friends is use ZOMATO or SWIGGY and enjoy food at the convinience of your Home instead of going here and getting stressed.
Kisan K — Google review
A good restaurant specially for non-vegetarian lovers. Non-veg is best here but veg is ok-ok. You will get different varieties of non-veg. Staff is good and service is quick.

Good place to have non vegetarian food, also the best part is they let you order from swiggi and have it in the restaurant. Hyderabadi dum biryani is my special recommendation
