Palermo in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Palermo, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Palermo, the capital of Sicily, lies on the edge of Europe. The "Kingdom of the Sun" is a heavily spiced blend of Byzantine mosaics, Arabesque domes, and frescoed cupolas. From art, architecture, and history to nature and gastronomy, Palermo has it all. Visit its markets, reminiscent of Arab souks, and sit at a sidewalk cafe for some granita al caffe con panna (shaved coffee ice with whipped cream) and cannoli.
With favorites like Giardino Garibaldi, Church of Saint Mary 'dell'Ammiraglio', and Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Bisso Bistrot and Plaza Pretoria Pizzeria Ristorante so you can get the best taste of Palermo while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Teatro Massimo, located in Palermo, Italy, is a grand auditorium built in 1897 and still holds the title of Italy's largest theater with a seating capacity of 1,387. The building is an impressive and elegant architectural gem, featuring a pediment inscribed with the phrase "The Art renews the people and reveals its life." It was designed by architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile and completed by his son.
A true architectural masterpiece in the heart of Palermo Teatro Massimo impresses not only with its stunning exterior but also with its beautifully decorated interior and perfect acoustics. The atmosphere inside feels like stepping back in time elegant, grand, and full of history. Even from the upper seats, the sound is crystal clear. The location is central and surrounded by many great spots to explore.

We were incredibly lucky to have Teatro Massimo di Palermo literally on our doorstep. The architecture is stunning and absolutely photo-worthy. It’s also famous from The Godfather Part III, where the assassination of Apollonia was filmed. We loved passing by day and night, always catching a new angle. Overall, it’s a must-see and an easy stop while exploring Palermo. Saluti

The Teatro Massimo is absolutely stunning — both inside and out. The architecture is breathtaking, from the grand marble staircase to the ornate auditorium. Attending a performance here is an unforgettable experience, and even just the guided tour gives a real sense of Palermo’s cultural richness. The acoustics are excellent, and the staff are friendly and informative. A must-visit for anyone interested in opera

We headed out early from Syracuse to do this hike. 1.2 km down the ravine to this little oasis. Getting there was an easy drive until we got a km away. Then you are on a very rocky, narrow road- praying that no one is coming the other way. Several larger vehicles parked at the start of the narrow road - i assume the passengers walked in. There are clean washrooms available for use at the top of the hill. We were given an estimate of 40 minutes down and an hour back. I’m not in the best of shape so was worried about the trip back up. Although I had already been doing a lot of steps and stairs for the past 13 days. We made it both ways in less than the estimated time told to us. The route was a mix of rock steps, loose rock and a few flatter spots- just to keep you going. lol It’s nice to be able to sit and have some lunch dangling your feet in the cool water. The temperature heated up as we descended. We were glad that the temp outside was around 24. I think if it was warmer it would slow the hike back up the hill as there isn’t a lot of shade to rest in. A beautiful hike and we certainly recommend it.

Magnificent! The atmosphere is really about the classic theatre inside of the performance part and architecture. Surrounding floors and buffet I would say need a deep renovation. It doesn't match the overall expectations. Performance, the orchestra are magnificent 😄
Mila — Google review
Lovely place to visit and if possible to go for an opera show. I was lucky enough to find tickets for the Barber of Seville during our three days stay in Palermo. The acoustics of the theater are famous, not to mention the classy style of the place. An unforgettable memory for me.
Magda D — Google review
As fans of The Godfather trilogy, visiting the Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele was the first thing on our Palermo itinerary—it's iconic! The theater is famous worldwide as the dramatic setting for the final, tragic scene of The Godfather Part III, making it an essential pilgrimage site for film lovers. Even though we couldn't secure tickets for the interior tour this time, the building's exterior is magnificent and absolutely worth the visit. It stands as the largest opera house in Italy and the third largest in Europe, a massive, imposing structure that dominates Piazza Giuseppe Verdi. Its Neoclassical design, with a majestic hexastyle Corinthian portico and the impressive bronze lions flanking the entrance steps, speaks to the incredible wealth and culture of Palermo at the turn of the 20th century. Taking a moment to simply stand on the steps and admire the architecture, imagining the grand events that have unfolded there (both real and cinematic), is a pleasure in itself. Whether you are here for the opera, the history, or for the indelible connection to the Corleone family's final moments, the Teatro Massimo is a truly beautiful and essential stop in Palermo.
Halide E — Google review
The exterior is definitely worth to come and see, specially if you are a fan of the godfather movies. The interior is equally impressive. The guided tour is not expensive and even if it is short, it is worth it. I would recommend as second to the palazzo for the must visit in Palermo.

Fountain
Sights & Landmarks
Praetorian Fountain, a 16th-century landmark located in Piazza Pretoria, Palermo, is renowned for its intricate tiered design and sculptures of nude mythological figures. Originally designed for a Tuscan villa, it was later moved to its current location in 1573. Crafted by Florentine sculptor Francesco Camilliani, the fountain features numerous striking statues including nude nymphs and mythical creatures alongside the Twelve Olympians.
This nearly 500 year old fountain and collection of beautiful and monsterous statues is amazing. For the 6 months I've been here, it or the plaza around it have been constantly under renovation, but it's still fascinating and enjoyable. It's also in a fun party of the city with shops, street vendors, restaurants and street entertainers. Touristy but lovely and enjoyable.
Stephen R — Google review
The Pretoria Fountain is a masterpiece of Renaissance art that has been both lauded and reviled since its inception. This beautiful fountain, often dubbed the "Fountain of Shame" by locals due to its numerous nude sculptures, exemplifies the city's rich heritage and creative flare. Originally designed for a Florentine nobleman's private gardens, the fountain underwent considerable changes after being acquired by the Palermo Senate in 1574. Its transfer to the center of the city, Piazza Pretoria, sparked both appreciation and criticism. The abundance of naked images portraying gods, goddesses, nymphs, and legendary animals sparked concern among Palermo's more conservative people. The fountain's elaborate form, which consists of three concentric circular basins, is a masterwork of late Renaissance sculpture with clear Florentine influences. The highest basin is the smallest, and the lowermost is the largest. The ensemble is decorated with various statues and smaller fountains, resulting in a visually magnificent display. Visitors can freely observe this prominent sight at any time of day or night. However, daylight hours provide the best circumstances for observing the complex features of the sculptures. As evening falls, the fountain is lighted in a most fascinating way, casting a mystical spell over its watchers.

A beautiful square with an impressive fountain at its center. The atmosphere is lively and charming. At the moment, some renovation work is ongoing, but it’s still well worth a visit.

Beautiful fountain in the heart of Palermo! The sculptures are impressive and full of detail, and the square around it feels very lively. A must-see stop when exploring the city’s historic
Tiberiu I — Google review
Lovely piazza, with the stunning Fontana della Vergogna at its center, a masterpiece of marble sculptures featuring gods, nymphs, and animals. The surrounding architecture, including the City Hall and nearby churches, adds to the square’s historic charm. Piazza Pretoria has also appeared in several films and series, including the recent version of Il Gattopardo and Netflix’s Ripley, which makes it feel even more cinematic in person. A beautiful and iconic stop while exploring the city!

Stunning fountain ⛲️. But it was under renovation unfortunately when we got there 😪. Still we got the vipes ✨️🇮🇹
Dory A — Google review
Sadly in renovations right now but you can still get a glimpse of how amazing it must be! Very detailed statues made out of Carrara marble and the fountain is incredibly large too! At its top you can find the protector saint of Palermo, Santa Rosalia. It consists of 644 pieces shipped from Florence to Palermo.

I came across the Fontana Pretoria (Fontana della Vergogna) in front of the Town Hall in the Piazza Pretoria. Just amazing to go around and see the outstanding carvings! It was commissioned in 1554 for a villa in Florence and later transported here to Sicily. It has more than 50 white marble statues of mythological figures. It was nicknamed the "Fountain of Shame" due to all the nude statues!

Quattro Canti, also known as Piazza Quattro Canti, is a stunning octagonal public plaza in Palermo. It features four fountains topped by ornate statues in niches, representing the four seasons, Spanish kings, and the city's patron saints. This baroque masterpiece serves as the intersection of Via Maqueda and Corso Vittorio Emanuele and is a must-see attraction in the city.
This elegant Baroque style square is definitely a must not be missed on your trip to Palermo. Four Corners built as part of urban planning, which took place during the first decades of Spanish domination. At street level each corner has a fountain with a statue of one of the four seasons by Gregorio Tedeschi and Nunzio La Mattina. Above the central sections have a niche containing a statue of a sovereign - Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV of Spain and the emperor Charles V- all sculptured by Giovanni Battista D'Aprile. In the upper part are marble figures of four guardian saints of the city -Agatha, Christina, Nymph and Olivia. Magnificent view! Piazza is constantly talking about the History of Sicily and is the heart of Palermo's civil and social life. Beautiful in every season, indeed!
Irina A — Google review
Beautiful four corner monument unfortunately, despite its beauty, there’s trash everywhere. One fountain is trickling over mold. All other fountains are not running and filled to the very top with TRASH! So sad they are not maintained. Beautiful statuary. Be aware traffic runs through there so be on guard you don’t get run over.

One of Palermo’s most iconic spots! The four baroque facades are stunning, especially when lit by the sun. A perfect place to stop, take photos, and admire the historic heart of the city.

Where the two main roads cross, the magnificent hits you with full effect. The tourist stop regardless of whether walking alone or definitely when on a guided tour.
Cheryl T — Google review
Quattro Canti (Four Corners) is not just an intersection; it is one of Palermo's most important and memorable sights, serving as the dramatic, architectural heart of the city. We passed by it many times, and every single time the energy was different—it's a place of constant movement and life. The site is technically Piazza Vigliena, a small octagonal square formed by the intersection of the two main historic streets, Via Maqueda and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The four corner facades are magnificent examples of Palermitan Baroque, each one carved into a harmonious, curved space. The four buildings are decorated in four tiers: Fountains representing the four seasons. Statues of the four Spanish kings of Sicily. Statues of the four patron saints of the ancient quarters of Palermo (Agata, Ninfa, Oliva, and Cristina). What makes the Quattro Canti so special is that it acts as the city's living stage. Every time we passed through, there was something else happening—from street performances and singing to small public events. It truly feels like the pulse of Palermo, where the life of the city flows in every direction. It's an essential photo stop and a fantastic place to simply pause, look up at the soaring architecture, and soak up the ever-changing, vibrant atmosphere of the Sicilian capital.
Halide E — Google review
Absolutely stunning and iconic. Quattro Canti is one of those places where you simply have to stop, look up, and take in the incredible architecture. The symmetry, the Baroque details, the statues — everything feels like stepping into a piece of living history. It’s vibrant, full of life, and perfectly located in the heart of Palermo. A must-see for anyone visiting the city. Highly recommended!

Absolutely loved Quattro Canti in Palermo! This iconic Baroque square is like an open-air museum, every corner is a masterpiece. Located at the crossroads of the city’s four historic quarters, it’s where art, history, and urban life come together. The four curved facades are beautifully adorned with statues representing the seasons, Spanish kings, and Palermo’s patron saints, it feels like you’re standing inside a grand theatrical set. Whether you visit during the day or in the evening, the atmosphere is magical. A must-see when in Palermo!
Carlos R — Google review
A truly amazing place where architecture and music can be found. I loved the statues on the buildings. It is a must when you visit Palermo. There is usually a musician that plays music in the center. There are vendors who sell spritz like limoncello and Aperol. Just be aware that the vendors will charge more for their drinks for tourists. I was charged 10 euros for a limoncello spritz. The other vendors charge 5 or 3. Try not to get one from one of the aesthetic looking vendors. Go to one of the smaller cafes and avoid over paying all together. From this area you can go any direction and you’ll find shops and more restaurants. It’s a lovely area to enjoy the sights and sounds of Palermo. I would love to come back.

The Royal Palace and Palatine Chapel, located in the Palazzo dei Normanni, is a must-see attraction in Castelbuono. The chapel is adorned with intricate Byzantine mosaics and paintings, while the palace houses the Museo Civico, featuring sections on archaeology, urban planning, contemporary art, and sacred art. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Ventimiglia Castle and its Sicilian Baroque decor by the Serpotta brothers.
Absolutely astonishing. A must-visit place if you are in Palermo. The chapel is a UNESCO site, and a marvellous piece of religious art. For me it was breathtaking to finally see in real life something I studied in school years ago! The palace is also quite nice to visit, as well as the royal garden. I was also lucky and during my visit there was also a photographic exposition, which was very well organised in my opinion. The staff is super kind and available! Mind that on Sunday morning there's going to be the Holy Mass (in Latin) and so for an hour or so you cannot visit.

Very limited things you can see. Most of the places are not allowed for entry (unless you have a special exhibition ticket). Be aware: The most famous Jesus mosaic is currently under construction! There is a nice little garden you can go and rest.

Its big but beautiful. You can see the combination of the three ruling ethnicities on Sicily in the palace. I advise to buy tickets online, then you have no wait. The queue for the ticket office spans the whole east to west of Sicily
Dim E — Google review
It was worth the price (around 20€ per person). You also have a temporary exhibition (photos gallery) from an artist. You can spend almost two hours inside.
Alexandre B — Google review
Most of the Chapel and Palace N/A for viewing (either in scaffolds, or just NO WAY for the visitors). Chapel is in need for restoration , no doubt, long due. Online ticket asked to arrive 15 min earlier for security check, however the staff didn't want you earlier . Staff didn't care about the money, that visitors paid, behaved angry and rudely towards strangers (bold man on the photos), but spending time kissing each other and having fun.

The Palatine Chapel blends Byzantine, Norman, and Arab art like no other. The golden mosaics are stunning, and the wooden muqarnas ceiling is breathtaking. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015, a powerful symbol of Sicily’s multicultural past.

Worth seeing! Same beautiful mosaiscs as in the Monreal cathedral but mixed with baroque art. Fun fact - all the marzipan fruits you see in Palermo - it all began here!

The Cappella Palatina is a breathtaking 12th-century chapel built by King Roger II inside the Norman Palace. Its golden Byzantine mosaics, the famous scene of Roger crowned by Christ, the Arabic wooden ceiling, and Norman architecture create a stunning fusion of cultures. A true masterpiece and an absolute must-see in Palermo.

Palermo Cathedral, a church dating back to the 1100s, is an architectural marvel with four bell towers and royal tombs. The Ballaro market, reminiscent of the souk from the Arab domination era, offers a vibrant atmosphere with merchants' chants and authentic street food aromas. Visitors can explore Quattro Canti and Fontana Pretoria before entering Palermo Cathedral to admire its grandeur and Byzantine mosaics.
We enjoyed visiting Palermo Cathedral. Highly recommend climbing to the rooftop. It was €7 per adult and €4 for under 18. Spectacular views of Palermo, really gives you a great feel for the city. We were there during 5pm mass and experienced a procession and a busy church. Highly recommend.

I visited this magnificent cathedral in May, and it was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Palermo. The moment you approach the building, you’re struck by its grand façade and unique mix of architectural styles — Norman, Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical — all beautifully layered through centuries of history. It’s a place where art, faith, and culture come together in a breathtaking way. Inside, the cathedral is just as impressive. The soaring arches, intricate details, and serene atmosphere create a powerful sense of history. It’s fascinating to walk through and imagine all the generations that have passed here. The royal tombs are especially interesting, offering a glimpse into the city’s rich past. Don’t miss going up to the rooftop — the panoramic view over Palermo and the surrounding mountains is unforgettable. The combination of history, architecture, and scenery makes this place truly special. ✨ I was genuinely happy to visit this incredible site. It’s not just a monument, but a living piece of Palermo’s soul. Absolutely worth a visit!

Set in a beautiful square alongside its museum. The cathedral had a very modern feel. We did get in without waiting in line however, the building was very busy with tour groups. I would recommend heading to crypt which really is fascinating. For those who wish you can also access the upstairs via a dtstcase hidden behind a panel in the main building. For individual travellers tickets can be bought from their ticket office @ 18 Euros. The office also has toilets available at 1 Euro per person.

We came out of a narrow street to the north east and were greeted by this massive building and nice open space. The stonework is so well preserved for 900 years old and the inside is kept spotless clean. We didn't have time to tour the museum and rooftop walk but I believe 18euro allows access to both. There is a bronze line on the floor with pictures of several constellations that shows the passing of the sun through the window on certain days. Very interesting to find that in a church. There are a few large statues outside in the spacious piazza that are also worth a close look if you have time

Visited the Palermo Cathedral while in town and wow — it’s absolutely beautiful. The architecture and deep history are truly stunning, and its UNESCO status feels well-deserved. We wandered for a while and found plenty of great photo spots. Entry is paid, but worth it. Definitely a must-see when in Palermo. Saluti!

The Palermo Cathedral is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and architecturally complex buildings in all of Italy. It was the most important and beloved sight of our visit to Palermo, and it’s a place where you can easily spend an entire day exploring its incredible history and diverse grandeur. What makes this Cathedral so mesmerizing is its astonishing Arab-Norman architecture, a result of centuries of conquest and cultural fusion. Unlike a typical Italian Duomo, it features elements of Byzantine, Islamic, Gothic, and Renaissance design, visible in its massive scale, its delicate stonework, and the imposing battlements that crown the structure. From the exterior arches decorated with Arabic inscriptions to the imposing bell tower, the building tells the entire history of Sicily in stone. You can certainly spend hours simply admiring the exterior, but the interior offers equal wonder. Inside, be sure to explore the various facets of the complex: The Crypt: A quiet, ancient space holding the tombs of archbishops. The Royal Tombs: Containing the sarcophagi of Norman kings and Holy Roman Emperors, including Roger II and Frederick II. The Roofs: If possible, take the climb up to the roof for an unparalleled panoramic view of the entire city of Palermo, which truly puts the scale of the building into perspective. The Cathedral is a profoundly beautiful and essential stop that defines the grandeur and complexity of the city's identity.

The beautiful Palermo Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 12th century. The cathedral has undergone many transformations over time which has contributed to its unique blend of architectural styles (Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical). The cathedral houses the relics of Santa Rosalia, the Patron Saint of Palermo, as well as the tombs of six kings and queens. The cathedral also houses the tomb of Father Pino Pugliese, a local priest from Brancaccio who challenged the mafia and was subsequently killed by them in 1993. He was beatified by the church in 2013.

Teatro Politeama Garibaldi is a grand neoclassical theater located in Piazza Ruggero Settimo, also known as Piazza Politeama. Designed by architect Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda, the theater's facade is adorned with a striking colonnade and features a rooftop embellished with seven bronze rearing horses.
I haven’t been inside the theater myself, but from what I’ve seen, Teatro Politeama Garibaldi is absolutely stunning at night. The elegant neoclassical façade, reminiscent of a triumphal arch, is highlighted beautifully by nighttime lighting, giving the building a regal and almost magical atmosphere. Its architectural details—columns, sculptural elements, and the iconic bronze quadriga above the entrance—are all accentuated in the dark, creating a scene that’s both dignified and enchanting. The theater appears as a radiant landmark, inviting admiration and perfectly complementing the lively ambiance of Piazza Ruggero Settimo.

The neoclassical architecture from the late 1800s is stunning, and we loved wandering around and taking in all the details. The Teatro Politeama Garibaldi is one of Palermo's most striking and recognizable landmarks, and even if you don't attend a performance, the building itself is an absolute must-see. The building is a gorgeous example of 19th-century Neoclassical architecture, instantly recognizable by its triumphal arch entrance and the magnificent bronze sculpture atop it—a chariot pulled by four horses (the Quadriga). It stands proudly on Piazza Ruggero Settimo, dominating the space and marking a vibrant central point in the city. The elegant, curved facade gives it a sense of grandeur and poise. The Politeama truly comes alive after sunset. As you mentioned, they lighten it up in different, changing colors when it gets dark, which adds a beautiful, modern, and dramatic flair to the historic stone. The colorful illumination transforms the entire piazza into a lively, photogenic spot perfect for an evening stroll or an aperitivo nearby. It's an ideal place to pause, take pictures of its grand architecture, and soak up the chic atmosphere of modern Palermo.

Attended a performance a few days ago. It hurts to see such a glorious building in disrepair. I hope they renovate the structure since it is worth saving. A word of advise, finding one's seat is not so easy up in the galleries. Perhaps have a staff member help people up there. It seems many were confused regardless being locals or visitors. As for the performance, it was wonderful! Thank you 😊

Beautiful historical building. The tour was awesome, it was only 3 euros. This building has a more experience guide than the one from Massimo honestly. She was very informed, told us a lot of details. We found a lot of interesting details and we entered in all the rooms. It has also a richer history than Massimo. The place could use some renovation and restoration but the guide told us all the money go into the biggest theater. It is a pity as this one has way more history and it is far more interesting than that one. Beautiful place, totally recommend visiting it, spectacular view from the terrace, panoramic view of the city.

Santuario di Santa Rosalia is a 17th-century church and pilgrimage site located on Mount Pellegrino, just outside Palermo. The church is built into a cave where the relics of Saint Rosalia were discovered in 1624, leading to her adoption as the fourth female patron saint of Palermo. The facade dates back to 1600 and leads to an open dome that introduces visitors to the cave. It's a unique Catholic church with stunning views over the city.
A truly unique and beautiful sanctuary! Located on a hill and built into the rocky mountainside, Santuario di Santa Rosalia is surrounded by breathtaking nature. The serene atmosphere makes it the perfect place for reflection and relaxation. The view from the top is absolutely stunning, offering panoramic vistas of Palermo and the sparkling sea below. The combination of natural beauty and the spiritual significance of the site makes it a must-visit in Palermo. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with unforgettable scenery!

If you are nearby, I would definitely recommend visiting. There is also a small cafe at the bottom of the steps which is a good place to get some refreshments.

Visiting the Santuario and the Church of Santa Rosalia in Palermo is a truly memorable experience. The views from the sanctuary are absolutely stunning, offering a panoramic glimpse of the city and the surrounding landscape that's well worth the trip. If you're not up for a long walk, there's a bus that runs roughly every two hours, which is really convenient for those who want an easier way to get there and back. Just plan your timing accordingly to make the most of your visit. Overall, it's a peaceful and beautiful spot that combines history, nature, and breathtaking views.

It is a beautiful place to discover the vibrant Sicilian culture. The region offers a unique blend of history and traditions that are worth exploring. The religious aspect is an integral part of the Sicilian heritage and is reflected in numerous ways. There are many churches and religious sites that are truly remarkable and awe-inspiring to see. Overall, it is a fascinating location with a rich and diverse culture that welcomes visitors.

So beautiful of a church. The area around is so gorgeous. The views are insane from hiking. To see the church was free, the museum was 2 or 3 euro I think, which was cool to see all the relics, and the toilet was 50 cents.

Travelled to the top of Mount Pellegrino to visit the area. The church is nestled in the mountain. Beautiful to see inside. Easy to get to from palermo on the bus cost 2euro each way. Lovely little restaurant.

Bistro
Bisso Bistrot is a charming restaurant and art space located in the former famous bookshop, Liberia Dante, right behind the Quattro Canti in Palermo. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere with a Sicilian menu that includes pasta with cauliflower and swordfish rolls stuffed with raisins and anchovies. Despite its central location, Bisso Bistrot maintains an authentic ambiance and fair prices. The establishment also features creative cocktails and attentive staff.
Great food, reasonable price. I came around 16:30 and the staff told me the restaurant is closed but they can still provide certain dishes. I ordered a rice with chicken, an eggplant appetizer and a beer. The food is tasty and the total cost is 22 euro.

The aperol spritz’s were great, and pasta was delicious and well priced - especially the pasta with tuna ragout which was the dish of the day. The servers were all friendly. We went for dinner relatively earlier so it was a bit quieter than other restaurants on the street.

Staff is very friendly, helpful and speak good English. Food is overall really delicious. We especially recommend Panelle, Caponata di Melanzane and and pasta dish. Millefogue unfortunately wasn’t very good. We paid for 3 people 61eur.

Very nice, quiet bistro on the otherwise very crowded Via Maqueda, much appreciated by locals. Delicious espresso, very nice service. When I'm in Palermo again, I'll definitely be back!

Had an amazing dining experience at Bisso Bistrot! The vibe is awesome, with a cozy yet modern feel. It's in a perfect location too. The food, though, is the real star of the show. Every dish I tried was bursting with flavor, but I have to highlight the basmati rice with fried chicken. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, making it the ideal accompaniment to the rest of the amazing menu. The quality of the food is well worth the price (it is very affordable too). Highly recommend!

Lovely place with good Sicilian food. The service is really good and fast. The menu offers a great variety of food so if you are a vegetarian or a meat eater you will find what you want. Quantities are good and meals tasty. If you're nearby give it a try

Cute restaurant and very affordable prices. However, I had high hopes for this restaurant, but was a bit disappointed.. The service was ok, but way too fast. I ordered and not even 2 minutes after I got my food. Which made me wonder if the wanted me out of the restaurant super fast? You finish the starter and not even 2 minutes after you have your plate. It might be to get more tables during the night, but it makes the overall experience less enjoyable. Feels like were in the US, not Italy. The food was good, but the pasta was definitely too salty for me. Haven’t tried the desserts, but they looked good!

Pizza restaurant
Plaza Pretoria pizzeria, situated on Via Vittorio Emanuele in Palermo, Sicily Italy, offers a variety of Italian cuisine including fast food, deli specialties, street food, Mediterranean dishes, and traditional Sicilian and Southern-Italian fare. Open for lunch, dinner, brunch or drinks; customers have the option to dine in or take out. The restaurant provides seating and accepts credit cards while offering table service and serving alcohol.
After a long morning sight seeing. We saw this cute little restaurant coming from the the Fountains. It was buzzing and busy. We decided to sit outside. Waitress, manager and chefs were very attentive; my daughter likes alot of plain things and they accommodated her. Very fresh authentic Italian pizza. Lovely building. Lovely location. Reasonably priced for 3 pizzas and 4 drinks (3 alcoholic) before we left they gave us a bottle of water and directed us to where we wanted to go next. If I come back to Palermo again I'd definitely come back!

We have eaten at this restaurant for 4 meals on this trip and each time it has been delicious. The service is excellent, and the staff are really friendly. The pizzas and Pasta Carbinara are wonderful. My grandson loved the sauted mushrooms. Cappuccinos are perfect. Clean bathrooms, too!!

Absolute Nightmare - Avoid at All Costs This was hands down the worst restaurant experience of my life. First of all, they charge a €2 service fee — for what, exactly? We waited forever to be served while the staff ran around yelling, screaming, and completely ignoring customers. It was like stepping into a madhouse. The noise was unbearable, the service was non-existent, and to top it all off, they overcharged us and kept the change without asking. It felt more like being robbed than served. If you’re into chaos, rudeness, and paying extra for absolutely nothing, this is the place for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this disaster of a restaurant.

I dont know how to describe this experience, i didnt eat… my pizza never arrived but all my family ate. Broken chairs, broken glass, 2€ to sit there… much noise and fight and overall bad attention. Im pretty angry to leave a proper review, but on my complain the owner gave me the pizza i ordered 1h after for free. I think the owner is killing this place, from all restaurants I’ve been around europe is the first time i end up angry and annoyed.

Great food and great service! I opted for the pizza romana and sicilian cannolo, both were amazing! Pizza tasted fresh, as well as the cannolo, our waitress was very welcoming and friendly too! Overall, would definitely recommend if looking for a place to eat!

Would never go near this restaurant again!! Have been in Italy for 5 weeks (and Sicily for one) and this was the worst restaurant experience we've had. The pasta sauce was almost non existent - no flavour, watery and absolutely disappointing. The house red wine tasted like vinegar and we had a piece of someone else's half eaten bread in our bread basket!! My partner says his Margherita pizza was ok but this doesn't make up for the overall poor dining experience. One of the waitresses was also rude and argumentative when we pointed out the half eaten piece of bread. Avoid at all costs!! So many other wonderful places to enjoy!
Anne S — Google review
I put one star cos I could not put less. Food was was ok but service non existant. Waitress was rude to everybody, no smile no welcome. It’s my second week in Sicily and this is the first time I see this kind of service. So far all restaurants I went to were professional friendly smiling and welcoming! Not like this place, so zero star for me!!

Sicilian restaurant
Nestled in a charming alleyway just behind the stunning Norman Cathedral, Ristorante La Galleria is a delightful find for anyone exploring the historic streets of Palermo. This rustic trattoria offers an authentic taste of Sicilian cuisine, featuring delectable seafood pasta and hearty meat dishes that are sure to satisfy any palate.
I'm not sure what the slightly odd recent reviews are about, ignore them! I suspect these people prefer the more generic food of a fancy hotel to the traditional, delicious food, clearly cooked with love and attention, that we received at La Galleria. Hearty portions, great quality cooking and the friendliest of service is what you'll get at this restaurant. There isn't a dish we had that I wouldn't recommend to be honest. The fried cheese was tangy and salty and I wish I could eat some now. The sardine pasta was out of this world and don't get me started on the wine-list....so many local, well-priced bottles to choose from. My wine-loving husband was in heaven. The lady that served us was so warm and helpful. I'm afraid we didn't catch her name. In fact, we liked it so much, we visited again the next day and did it all over again. This is a must-visit restaurant when you're in Palermo. Until next time....

Lovely atmosphere, wonderfully kind staff, and absolutely delicious food! This became our favourite restaurant in Palermo. We enjoyed it so much that we went back a second time during our five-day stay. I highly recommend booking a table in advance, as it’s usually quite busy, especially at dinner.

Best food I had in Palermo and among the best in Sicily. The wait was a little long despite reservations but that’s because the place is so good. They do have a lot of seating if outdoor space is open, and ambience is excellent. Inside was really cool and rustic and outside in an amazing part of town with a lot of old world charm. All the locals said this was the best food in the city, and they were correct! Our waiter Farad was amazing and worked really hard, was awesome with recommendations and very friendly. This restaurant is definite go to!!!

Very well located and with delicious food. They have a terrace with some tables having a view of the cathedral. We had lunch inside and it was also very nice. The place has many kinds of wines, red and white, from Sicily. The pasta was delicious l. I would recommend as a very good option for your lunch while visiting the center of Palermo

A great spot, even if it’s a bit touristy - excellent location, with a charming stone courtyard in traditional Sicilian style and cool air-conditioned seating inside. The staff speaks English, and the food was excellent, especially the seafood pasta. We were very happy with our visit! I’d recommend coming right at opening time or booking in advance to get a table.

Fine dining restaurant
Located in the historical center of Palermo, MEC Restaurant is a unique dining spot housed in a sixteenth-century building. The restaurant doubles as a museum dedicated to Steve Jobs and his innovations, featuring an elegant and pop architecture. The cuisine by Carmelo Trentacosti reflects the context with its emphasis on technique, color, and carefully selected raw materials.
A wonderful experience at MEC, from the moment we arrived, till when we left. A warm and friendly welcome, we were shown to our table and offered an explanation of the menu. A discrete entrance to the building, opposite the beautiful historic buildings of Palermo. The restaurant is in an Apple museum, which is a little strange as it's got nothing to do with the food, city or culture. I'm not sure the relevance and don't think it adds anything to the experience. The service was attentive, professional and friendly at all times which was excellent. We opted for the tasting menu, and they allowed us to have 1 vegetarian and 1 meat menu which is usually against the norm. The appetisers and bread was interesting, and each course was explained and unique in it's own way. The wine menu was extensive, and reasonably priced, so we went with a recommendation rather than opting for the wine pairing. Everything was excellent. Amazing flavour, well seasoned and different. The vegetarian Wellington was the best we've ever tasted, pasta was amazing and everything accompanying. Overall, whilst it was expensive, and not exactly traditional local food, the produce was of very high quality, unique and highly recommended.
Arun S — Google review
Everything about our evening at MEC was simply perfect — from the refined ambience and impeccable service to the creative and flawlessly executed tasting menu. The restaurant’s location inside an elegant Sicilian palazzo adds a sense of timeless grandeur, yet the space simultaneously celebrates modernity through its exhibition of Apple’s design history. This unexpected blend of past and future creates a unique and captivating atmosphere. Each dish was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and rich in flavor — thoughtful, balanced, and deeply evocative of both tradition and innovation. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making the whole experience feel personal and memorable. Dining here feels like being part of a story — of art, technology, and gastronomy seamlessly intertwined. Absolutely worth a visit for anyone who appreciates fine dining at its most inspired.
Dusko I — Google review
The experience at this restaurant was, overall, underwhelming — especially given the high expectations and premium price point. The concept is introduced as a tribute to Steve Jobs, briefly mentioned upon arrival. However, the idea isn’t explored or referenced again throughout the evening. This left us puzzled, as the theme didn’t reflect in the atmosphere, service, or storytelling in any meaningful way. The wine list is extensive — in fact, a bit overwhelming. We were presented with a very thick catalogue, and when we asked for assistance, the guidance felt limited. We found ourselves having to lead the conversation and ask very specific questions to find a wine that suited our preferences. At this level, we expected more proactive and personalized recommendations. We opted for the tasting menu, which seemed promising. While the presentation of the dishes was striking, the flavors often didn’t live up to the visual appeal. Some courses lacked depth, and overall, the selection didn’t quite align with our palate. On a positive note, the service was courteous and attentive throughout the evening. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it fell short of the standard we anticipated — especially for a restaurant with such a strong concept and pricing to match.

Dining at MEC in Palermo was an unforgettable experience — not just a meal, but a journey through creativity, precision, and emotion. From the moment I entered, I could feel the calm elegance that defines Michelin-star dining: minimalist design, soft lighting, and impeccable attention to detail. The staff welcomed me with warmth and professionalism, making me feel truly taken care of throughout the evening. I chose the tasting menu, and each course was a small work of art — visually stunning and bursting with flavor. The combination of local Sicilian ingredients and modern techniques was impressive. One of my favorites was the red prawn dish — delicate, sweet, and beautifully balanced. The wine pairing was exceptional, highlighting the best of Sicilian vineyards. Every bite felt intentional, every flavor told a story. Even the pacing of the meal was perfect, allowing time to savor and reflect. The dessert was a masterpiece — light, elegant, and full of contrast. MEC is more than a restaurant; it’s an experience that celebrates Sicily in its most refined form. If you appreciate culinary art, this place is absolutely worth it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Alexandru D — Google review
It was one of the worst experience in a Mechlin star restaurant. Cold atmosphere, it seems stuff doesn’t care about clients. They don’t make your serviette. The toilet is terrible. The cheese plate was bad because they don’t keep most of the cheese right and it tastes like old from the fridge. I really don’t understand why they have a star. Oh, and by the way, don’t order Bellini cocktail, they don’t know how to make it.
Natalie S — Google review
Maybe Apple is backing this restaurant? There’s Steve Jobs/Apple memorabilia everywhere & Im not sure why. Food wise, they excel at seafood—the 1st bites were all seafood & all tasty. There was a pumpkin dish w mustard ice cream that did not work. Lamb needed flavor, seasoning. Potage was great, risotto was great. Our server had really squeaky shoes. The som was super nice. Wouldn’t go back.

We had a pleasant evening at MEC Palermo, where the service was undoubtedly the highlight. Special thanks to Gaspare, whose warm and attentive approach made us feel truly welcomed and well looked after throughout the night. While the tasting menu didn’t fully meet our expectations in terms of flavor, the professionalism and hospitality of the staff left a lasting impression. For those who appreciate exceptional service in a refined setting, MEC is certainly worth a visit.

The Cattedrale di Monreale is a landmark Norman cathedral renowned for its intricate cloisters and vibrant gold mosaics depicting biblical tales. Constructed in 1184, the cathedral has preserved its original structure while undergoing various modifications over the centuries. It showcases a unique blend of architectural styles including Arab, Norman, Byzantine, Swabian, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque.
Magnificent church with stunning views! Definitely worth the visit compared to the Palermo Palace!! Only a short bus ride 15 min. from the Palace. Tickets for the bus were cheap - €2.80 for 2 round trip. Had really old church records that were cool. The ticket line was a bit long due to tour groups, but moved quickly.

One of the Most Beautiful Churches I’ve Ever Visited Absolutely stunning! Be sure to get the full ticket – the view from the rooftop is breathtaking. It’s best to visit right when it opens, as it can get quite crowded later with large tour groups arriving by bus.

The Duomo di Monreale is one of the most extraordinary cathedrals I have ever visited — a true masterpiece of Norman architecture in Sicily. Located on a hill overlooking Palermo, the cathedral impresses from the moment you arrive with its majestic exterior and breathtaking panoramic views of the valley below. The interior is simply unforgettable. Every inch of the walls and ceilings is covered in magnificent golden mosaics, telling biblical stories with incredible artistry and precision. The image of Christ Pantocrator in the apse radiates a spiritual power that leaves a lasting impression. The combination of Norman, Byzantine, and Arab influences creates a unique and harmonious atmosphere that reflects Sicily’s rich cultural history. Don’t miss the cloister, a peaceful courtyard surrounded by elegant arches and beautifully carved columns — each one different, a true work of art. It’s a perfect place to take a quiet moment and admire the craftsmanship. Visiting Duomo di Monreale feels like stepping into another time. It’s not just a church; it’s a treasure of world heritage and one of the most remarkable places in Italy.
Maia M — Google review
Monreale’s Duomo is an architectural masterpiece, yet what truly makes the experience unforgettable is the atmosphere. Unlike the more heavily trafficked Palermo Cathedral, the Monreale Cathedral feels like its quiet, intensely spiritual twin. It’s significantly less crowded, allowing for a far more contemplative and local experience, where you often see more residents than tourists. If the Palermo Cathedral is a grand fortress, Monreale’s Duomo is a perfectly preserved jewel box. Its Arab-Norman architecture beautifully showcases the incredible fusion of cultures that defined 12th-century Sicily, a signature style shared with its counterpart in Palermo. The defining feature of the interior is, of course, the breathtaking, unified cycle of Byzantine gold mosaics. They shimmer with an ethereal light and tell Biblical stories across thousands of square meters, dominated by the majestic, compassionate figure of the Christ Pantocrator in the apse. Being able to view these mosaics without the crush of large tour groups is a privilege that truly enhances their impact. The experience here feels much more authentic and tied to the local community. The square outside, the adjacent cloisters with their intricate columns (another must-see), and the church itself feel like an active place of worship and local pride, rather than just a historic site. This sense of peace and intimacy makes Monreale an essential stop, providing a deeper connection to Sicily’s magnificent Norman heritage than you might find in the bustling city center. It’s a powerful experience for those looking for grandeur on a more human scale.

Stunningly beautiful Norman cathedral in Monreale, the birthplace of my wife’s grandmother and locale where her grandparents lived before emigrating to Rochester, NY in 1902. Wish we could have spent more time in Monreale, but we enjoyed seeing this wonderful cathedral. Definitely do the tower walk, worth the money.

Absolutely a must to visit ,truly beautiful and a joy to walk around even if your not religious. Light airy resembles the ceilings of the Sistine chapel . Uplifting experience and real bird of paradise plants in the square.

This place is stunning, definitely worth visiting, however stupid charging really takes the shine off. I'm not complaining that we had to pay, that wasn't the issue, it's that at the desk we paid to get in, I specifically asked for the ticket for "everything", and the man behind the desk confirmed "yes everything". Imagine my surprise then when we get in and can't find out how to access the cloisters. Oh that's a different entrance around the side. So we go out to find this other entrance and guess what, they want more money to see the cloisters. It's the same building! Extremely sneaky and felt like we were being scammed. If they'd just included this in the price to start with we'd have paid but refused given the deceitful way they'd sold tickets, after all you can see it from above as part of the main ticket. So we walked back around to the main entrance and in the 2 minutes we'd been gone they'd closed the gates for a 2 hour lunch. They literally seen us go out to try to find the cloister entrance and never said anything, no signs except on the gate when it is closed. There were plenty of people still inside and we showed our tickets and explained but they refused to let us back in, we only had the chapel left, which they could see on the ticket and which took all of about 5 minutes, we'd have been in and out before the majority of the other people, common sense should have prevailed. So had to hang about for a couple of hours to complete the last part of our tour. You could tell the staff were actually taking pleasure in it. Really amazing place let down by downright greed and poor staff.

Historical place
The Norman Palace, also known as the Palazzo dei Normanni, is a grand 9th-century palace in Palermo, Sicily. Originally built for the Emir of Palermo, it was transformed by the Normans and now houses Sicily's regional parliament. The palace features a neo-classical facade, a historic chapel with beautiful Byzantine mosaics called Cappella Palatina, and ornate royal apartments.
Top sightseeing highlight in Palermo. The Norman Palace and the Palatine Chapel with gold mosaics are the must see. The chapel is undergoing refurbishment and part of one wall was covered in September 2025. It should be finished in early 2026. It didn’t stop us from getting good views of the mosaics. The Royal Apartments are not as interesting but are included in the ticket. The Garden are the same, nice to stroll around. There was a special exhibition on with photographs from Elliott Erwitt (1950-70s) which was fascinating. There are photos of Marilyn Monroe, JFK, etc. We went on Sunday morning and arrived at 8.15am for the 8.30am opening. We were the first there! Better to buy your tickets online as there was a long queue to buy them from the ticket office. We felt that we got our moneys worth from the visit.
Simon R — Google review
Interesting place to visit, but definitely not worth the ticket price ( €15 + €5 audio guide). There are too many parts unaccessible for visitors. The chapel is very interesting because of rendezvous of collaboration of artists from the Islamic and Christian worlds. I was lucky there was an exhibition of Elliot Erwitt presenting his amazing photography. Be aware that for the audio guide you have to leave your id and there are no earbuds. It’s just and iphone!!!

Spectacular and a must see when visiting Palermo. The lowlight here was that they were doing works and that affected our visit a little bit. But it was still worth to see the building and of course the capilla. I can only recommend visiting this, if you have to choose one place to visit in a short stay in the city, it’s this one.
Ricardo V — Google review
Waiting time at the ticket counter was around 45 minutes, and admission (€18.50) includes an exhibition that must be booked together. After that, there was another 20–30 minutes of waiting at the entrance. Restrooms cost €0.50 furthermore after the security check (similar to the airport). Inside, there is simply no information at all - no panels, no guides, no interactive features. It is such a pity that the rich history of this place is withheld from visitors. There are also no seats for those who may need a rest. Part of the Cappella Palatina is currently under renovation. That said, the mosaics are truly stunning, often shimmering in gold, within a palace dating back to 1160. Despite these shortcomings, it remains an impressive historic site that is worth experiencing at least once.
Tina — Google review
Best to buy tickets online. We had to wait in line a long time to buy tickets. Once we had a ticket, there was no wait to get in. I heard that the tour bus rush is in the morning. Best to go in the afternoon. The chapel was incredible. Also, visit Friday-Monday so that you can see the royal apartments. They are worth seeing. Disappointed that the WC wasn’t free.
Michael P — Google review
The mosaics are spectacular, but I can't help but feel ripped off. We were forced to pay an extra €3.50 each for a photographer’s exhibition unrelated to the palace and no option to skip it when paying. Plus a separate fee for the toilets. Only two toilets available, so expect long queues. The gardens were underwhelming too, with trees not even native to Italy. Incredible mosaics, but I've left feeling ripped off.
Tracy H — Google review
Visited on a rainy day. Bit of a wait for a ticket and to enter but well worth the price. An Elliott Erwitt photo exhibition was also on, and very good. The palazzo architecture and artwork are impressive, ranging across time periods and styles.
Anthony S — Google review
Well, impressive murals in the chapel, but half of the display was being renovated and behind screens. Then the royal apartments on the second floor were closed - only open at the weekend. The gardens are nice, but… so of the three things you buy your ticket to see you get one and a half. Disappointing.

The Catacombe dei Cappuccini di Palermo is a 16th-century catacomb in Sicily that houses over 8,000 corpses dating from the 16th century to 1920. The bodies are divided into categories based on social caste, age, or gender and are displayed in various ways such as sitting on benches, pinned to walls, or placed in open coffins. Many of the corpses are mummified and dressed in clothing from the time of their death.
A truly unique and unforgettable experience in Palermo. The Catacombs are both fascinating and a little haunting, giving you a rare glimpse into history, tradition, and the passage of time. The preserved mummies are unlike anything I’ve seen before – it feels like walking through centuries of Sicilian history. The place is well-organized, easy to access, and not too crowded when I visited. Tickets are affordable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Photos are not allowed inside the Catacombs (for respect), but the atmosphere itself leaves a strong impression. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Palermo who wants to explore something beyond the usual tourist attractions.

better preserved than the one in Paris. No need to que for long. Can take credit card for ticket payment. The actual entrance is near the shop, not the gate, dont miss.

So incredible! If for no other reason go too see the old clothes worn by the deceased. About a 30-40 minute tour through it. Little Rosalia was difficult to see. You had to stand behind a barrier and could not easily look in to see her sweet face. You cannot take photos. Getting there was a pain. We took an expensive taxi to and from central Palermo to get there. (Worth it) Afterwords, tour the adjacent Cappuccini Cemetery above it. A wonder of art and beauty. My husband was in awe of the number of flowers relations leave for family members.
Ann S — Google review
Incredible sight, incredible preservation of history. Macabre, humbling, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I wish they had more signs perhaps with some context for the people interred there, but it was still interesting.
Rebecca C — Google review
The Cappuchin Crypt / Catacombs is the right place to come for something totally spooky and unique! I loved my visit contemplating death and seeing the outfits over the skeletons of people dead for hundreds of years. Amazing!
Eileen W — Google review
The place is both moving and unsettling — corridors lined with mummies and skeletons dressed in centuries-old clothing, from children to clergymen and members of the upper class. That said, the site feels a bit neglected — dust, wear on the displays, and a lack of clear explanations in foreign languages make it harder to fully grasp the historical value. If you’re looking for something truly unusual, it’s a must-see — but for the sensitive eye and heart, it can also be quite disturbing.
Ofer L — Google review
This was such an interesting place, however i did have experience many emotions. Seeing the bodies of children, peasants, clergy, the wealthy... out in the open.... was a bit surreal. I had such a mix of curiousity (wondering what happened in their last moments), yet I also felt disrespectful, like I was invading something that should remain private (not on public display). It reminded me of the reality of our immortality. Fascinating, glad I went, but one time is enough for me. (No picture taking allowed!)
Norma C — Google review
I highly recommend! Very unique with lots of cool history!! There are not many plaques explaining the history so I recommend doing some reading up on it beforehand so you have greater insight when in there. We didn't buy tickets in advance and showed up when it opened again in the afternoon. There was a long line when we got there. We bought tickets and went in about 20-30 min afterwards. So, show up early! But they move through people pretty quickly. No photos or videos are allowed. Don't be a douche in there. It's a solemn and macabe experience.

Zisa Palace, also known as "El-Aziz," is a 12th-century architectural marvel located in Palermo. It was initially commissioned by King William and later completed under the reign of William II. The palace showcases Moorish architecture and served as the king's summer residence. Inspired by Islamic gardens, it exudes a sense of space and relaxation with its flowing water features.
A world treasure not to be missed. This is an Arab Norman Palace from the 12th century, perfectly restored and absolutely amazing. I came out here twice because the first time it was closed and I’m really grateful that I made the effort. It may be closed on Mondays. I got in on Tuesday.
Maria L — Google review
The lady who works in the shop was lovely and a real gem but other than that this place needs to be avoided! How on earth it is a UNESCO site is beyond me. The area is incredibly bleak, depressing and feels dangerous. The place itself is a slapdash of styles and cleaning attempts to present it to the world and keep it in a nice way, but it has pigeon nets up with feathers everywhere and potentially trapped birds, it has almost nothing on display and you have to pay 8€ for the privilege. Seriously save yourself the time and money and don’t come here unless you want a sad experience because realistically it should have the funds to at least have the gardens maintained with some money to the local area, but the money is being sucked up somewhere by someone or some organisation…so ask yourself how ethical it is to spend your money here.
Caïna V — Google review
Beautiful palace, still undergoing renovation, but already in great shape. Three floors and several rooms are accessible. It’s a bit of a walk from the city center. Tickets are 8 euros, but several categories get a discount (students, teachers etc). Very friendly personnel.
Elisa C — Google review
Considering this is a Unesco site than very disappointing. The only room where you can slightly see something is not allowed to access so people are standing in a queue to make a picture. Big building, but nothing really inside, no decorations, no real style… we were lucky to come the first Sunday of a month so an entry was free of charge otherwise that wouldn ´t be worth more than 5 €.

12th Palace of Zisa, Palermo, Sicily. king Norman I in the century. Initiated around 1165 by William and his son II. It is a summer palace completed in 1189 during the William era. The palace, which derives from the Arabic name "al-Azīza" (magnificent, beloved), reflects the union of Norman and Arabic architecture. This structure, located in Genoardo Park, is one of the impressive examples of Islamic art and features such as muqarnas, mosaics and a cooling airflow system. 17. restored by the Sandoval family in the century, renewed by the Sicily Region in the 1990s and added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015. Today it is used as a museum of Islamic art.

Unfortunately, in the past it was left unkept and than restored not very professionally (some exposed concrete beams, modern bricks, etc.). Still worth visiting.

Deli
Fast food restaurant
Sfrigola is a well-known deli in Palermo famous for its arancini (a type of Italian sausage and rice ball). The ingredients are very fresh and the arancini are extremely tasty. The deli also serves other Mediterranean dishes, such as Ventriciana and Quatroformagi.
Ooh girl! Best arancine in town. They make it fresh here so it's nice and crunchy on the outside and super fresh inside. There's just the right amount of filling in both the carne and the burro which my date and I shared. Definitely worth the wait if you have a few minutes to spare before or after your tour of the nearby palace.
Geoffrey H — Google review
Hands down the best arancini around! Quick service and unforgettable food. If you are in the city you will NEED to try this place. I preferred the arancini that had tomatoes in it. But you could not go wrong with any other flavor.
Cienn J — Google review
Wow, what a crazy delicious treat! Luckily, this place was just down from the bed-and-breakfast we were staying at. We somehow managed to eat there every single day.😁 the flavors were wonderful and the texture of the crunchy outside and the soft inside was amazing. If you’re in the neighborhood, you’re missing out if you don’t stop in.
Christopher A — Google review
Great location! Arancina was good but you could sense the oil may not be the freshest oil (what they’re fried in). Service was a bit slow - meant to be 5 min wait but was over 15 minutes. Plenty Arancina around Sicily that is really good and better.

Cerino D'Oro 1977 is a local gem known for its friendly service and delicious food. The restaurant offers a variety of options, including great pizza, wonderful salads, grilled veggies, and tasty roast chicken with potatoes and chips. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of house red wines. Despite being busy with both dine-in and take-out orders, the staff manages to provide excellent service. This place provides an authentic local experience away from the touristy areas.
Loved this place for the kind service, great pizza, wonderful salad and grilled veggies! Also very good house red wine. Very busy both for dine in and take out. I would definitely go back. FYI. Reason the food pics are missing things is that we were so hungry we forgot to take photos before we dove in, lol.

Best Gluten-Free Chicken – Hands Down! If you're looking for the best gluten-free chicken, this is the place. I usually never eat at the same spot twice while on holiday, but this chicken was so good I had to go back. For just €9, you get half a chicken – crispy, flavourful, and gluten-free! The staff were lovely too. Just a heads-up: it gets extremely busy, so don’t go if you're absolutely starving – it’s worth the wait, though. Highly recommend it!
Ilk G — Google review
Amazing place, mainly visited by locals as it is outside the city center. I have had dinner in house as well as take out, both great options. When it comes to dinning in house the prices are a tad (1€) higher. I would highly recommend to anyone coming to Palermo to visit at least once as it is an institution. You can see that the people working there are very experienced by the way they handle the chicken and the pizze. The only reason why service doesn't get 5 stars is that they are always so busy that they can't take attentive care of everyone.
Efstratios M — Google review
How time flies. A few years ago we ordered a pizza from here. It was one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten in Palermo. Moving ahead. Last night we ordered a delivery with Govo. We decided this time to go for their chicken and oven potatoes. Upon delivery we found the whole chicken on top of mashed oven potatoes full of oil. It would have been better to place the oven potatoes in a separate container so not to spoil them. The chicken was ok nothing great and for the potatoes too salty and tasteless. Maybe it’s better to stick to the pizza next time.

La Sfincioneria is a Sicilian eatery known for its sfincione, a local version of pizza with a thicker, spongy base topped with tomatoes, onions, anchovies, and caciocavallo cheese. Just wow! What an amazing restaurant! It is part of the Michelin guide and for sure it deserves a star! One of the best ones I have ever been. Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere. Splendid service. Unique flavors. If you are considering going, just do it 😁
Pablo M — Google review
We found the best dinner here after traveling in many places in Italy. With fresh materials the chef cooked everything to perfection and the taste was so balanced and delicious. I could eat every night here. Also the plate is delicate and pleasant. They definitely deserve the Michelin star. Without drinking any wine, we ordered 4 different plates to share among two of us. Portion is not big but enough for us. Love the veal as the main course, gnocchi with peas and shrimp is so delicious. the squid ink soup is surprisingly tasty and not too heavy. I also love the fish ceviche while my husband thought it could get a little stronger acid. Peach pre-desert is better than the white chocolate mango desert in my opinion as the former is light and fresh not over sweet. All in all it’s highly recommend place to try local food and wine.

Everything was wonderful and I warmly recommend this place. It’s very peaceful and quiet, the service is more perfect and food is delicate and at a gastronomic level. I followed the very good recommendations of the waiter.
Clémentine D — Google review
Disappointing experience despite high expectations As regular guests familiar with Bib Gourmand and Michelin standards, we had high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them. The service was adequate, but lacked any personal touch. From the moment we arrived, it felt more transactional than welcoming. The staff were polite, but distant, and there was little effort to make the experience feel special or tailored. The food itself was underwhelming. The main course, which should have been the highlight, was served almost cold. When we shared our honest feedback with the waiter, we were met with a surprisingly dismissive response. Rather than acknowledging the issue or showing concern, she simply stated that the portion size was smaller due to the six-course tasting menu. That explanation completely missed the point—we weren’t commenting on the size, but on the temperature and quality. For a place that positions itself within the Bib Gourmand category, this felt far below the mark. We left disappointed, and sadly, we will not return. Plenty of nice places in town with way lower prices.
Kasper K — Google review
I’ll admit…I was super hesitant because of the recent reviews. I’ll be happy to admit I didn’t see even one bit of the negative experiences as those reviewing previously did. Maybe the restaurant stepped up their game?? Overall, in my honest opinion this is definitely worth the price point. The food was phenomenal. The service was exceptional. I am full. We chose the wine paring and that made a difference for the meals and I’d highly recommend it. I booked dinner for a friend’s birthday and started to read the reviews the day of and quickly became hesitant. I figured it’s already booked so I might as well try it. I’m so glad I didn’t cancel my booking and I’ll happily come back here again!!

Villa Giulia is an 18th-century Italianate oasis located in the heart of the city. It was the first public park in Italy and boasts a tranquil atmosphere with its sundial, sculptures, trees, and gardens. The garden follows a precise geometric layout with symmetrical avenues and a circular square at its center. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along wide paths adorned with fountains and statues or relax in one of the semicircular exedras.
One of the best park in Palermo, adjacent to the botanical garden. Free entry. Amazing ficus trees. Also, good examples of Palermo neoclassical and art nouveau style. Maybe pair with a visit to the world class botanical garden (for a fee).

The park is actually beautiful and a nice place to start exploring Palermo, but it doesn't really provide much shade and nothing seems to be working as it's not very visited. Probably better when not in scorching heat hours... Entrance is free, but note this is not the botanical garden.

The Orto Botanico di Palermo, established in 1795, is one of the oldest botanical research centers in the Mediterranean. Spanning over ten hectares, it features a greenhouse, herbarium, and outdoor gardens showcasing a diverse range of tropical and semi-tropical plants from around the world. Administered by the University of Palermo, this tranquil oasis also houses a seed repository and catalog archive.
A perfect place to escape the midday heat and enjoy the beauty of nature. Centuries-old plane trees and cacti create a refreshing oasis in the heart of the city. The botanical garden is a lovely spot for a peaceful walk — even in the summer heat, it’s cool and shady. There’s also a charming café on the grounds. Plant enthusiasts might notice rare species, but for me, it was simply a beautiful and relaxing garden to spend a couple of hours.

This garden is a wonderful place to explore, especially on a warm day. The shaded paths and lush environment offer a peaceful spot to cool off. There’s an impressive variety of Mediterranean plants, trees, and succulents—perfect for nature lovers or anyone curious about regional flora. The on-site café with outdoor seating adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Tip: Bring some insect repellent, as mosquitoes can be present in certain areas. Highly recommended for a tranquil and affordable break!
Chris N — Google review
Fantastic potential, but sadly run down. The entrance is well looked after and looks impressive. However, the deeper you go the more neglected the place is. Dying plants, rampant weeds, and cracking concrete unfortunately ruin what could be an oasis of vegetation in the city. The complaint may seem trivial, but the fact that there is an entrance fee means they are generating income, it just seems like it’s been allocated to places other than maintenance. Overall, I would recommend spending time elsewhere in Palermo.

Unlike some of the negative reviews, I actually like the rough state of the garden. It has cool post apocalyptic vibe and its style fits perfectly with the rest of the city. Most of the plants are in good condition. The only downside for me are the mosquitoes

Chiesa Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, also known as Chiesa della Martorana, is a stunning domed church in Palermo's historic center. Originally built in the 12th century with Byzantine mosaics, it was later partially remodeled in the Baroque style. The church is famous for its landmark Byzantine mosaics and unique Arab-Norman architectural style, featuring intricate golden finishes.
Incredibly beautiful!! It’s a must to visit. The mosaics are amazing. So many history in this beautiful church

I would consider this a must watch when being in Palermo! Probably second right after the Palatine Chapel in the royal castle. Stunning interior with mosaics and lots of details! Entry ticket costs 2€ per person and can be bought inside the church!
Andi — Google review
To me the most beautiful church in Palermo. I very much loved the insides with the mixture of Greek, Arabic and Christian style.
Christina H — Google review
Beautiful church but also very small. Not sure it’s worth the 2.50€ entrance fee.
Niall B — Google review
Completely stunning church. The mosaics are absolutely beautiful and worth coming in to see. Entry price is 2€. If you are looking for the church with the cannoli, it is not this one-- that's the church across the square (Santa Caterina)
Dale C — Google review
Eccentric blend of Norman and Baroque. Must see! Keep your ticket for discounts to other churches
Marcia G — Google review
Splendid church, the paintings and the frescos on the ceiling are really splendid, to pass by Palermo and not to visit it would be a mistake, the prices are reasonable 1€ for the students and 2€ for the adults, I recommend you to visit this splendid place.
Noé V — Google review
Magnificent church originally built in 12th century by Normans in Byzantine/Islamic style. Half of it was painted over with baroque scenes, while the other is ancient and much more interesting (adorned with countless mosaics). Here and there you find columns inscribed with Arabic characters. Visitors entry is possible only for a few hours in a few days, so be sure you check its schedule!

Casa Stagnitta is a historic establishment near the Quattro Canti in Palermo, offering a rich experience rooted in over a century of coffee roasting tradition. The venue now includes a pastry and dining space, serving high-quality Arabica coffee in various forms, from iced to granita and affogato. Breakfast options range from classic brioche to iris pastries with ricotta cream and chocolate flakes, as well as savory croissants and other Sicilian delicacies.
Lovely little spot in the heart of Palermo! I ordered a green coffee and sat on the terrace—everything was tasty and the atmosphere was great. I also asked for a glass of water and they gave it to me for free, which was a nice touch. Highly recommended!

This is a lovely cafe located right next to the church of La Martorana. There are several outdoor tables surrounded by shrubs with each table having a real plant which is nice. We popped in for a light breakfast of a croissant and Danish style pastry. It has an extremely varied menu of coffees of which I chose Pistachio which was fantastic. 😋 There is also some choices of teas too. There is, of course, a large selection of food to accompany the coffees, though not all were available on our visit. Service is fine.

Great for a hearty protein filled breakfast with for somebody who has gluten free requests. My breakfast was salmon , eggs, veggies and cheese and was a perfect day to start a busy day of biking and walking. Many other places only have pastries so I was happy to find this place! And they open early.

I recently visited a charming café in Palermo, and I must say it was a delightful experience . The coffee was absolutely excellent, rich and perfectly brewed . I tried the pistachio-filled croissant, which was simply wonderful, and the iris with ricotta was equally delicious . The café itself is very beautiful , offering plenty of seating and a cozy , inviting atmosphere . Its location is also very convenient, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a treat . Highly recommended for anyone visiting Palermo !

Considering this is 200m away from one of the busiest streets in Palermo, this spot it SO quiet. We stayed in a small apartment around the corner and this became our regular coffee/croissant spot. I can HIGHLY recommend the coffee and pistachio croissants - and if you’re lucky you may bag a table in the street under the lemon trees 🍋

This is a very good place to stop in for a quick bite to eat or a morning drink of coffee or espresso and of course a brioche. I stop here three days in a row so that should explain how good this place is!

A nice little corner to get an affagato or gelato in a brioche bun, on a quiet side street near the hustle and bustle of the old city; great for a quick break on a hot summer day. Everything we had was great, highly recommended!

Osteria Alivàru da Carlo Napoli is a hidden gem located in the historic Kalsa neighborhood of Palermo. Carlo Napoli, also known as Carlo il Salumiere, runs this restaurant with a passion for serving only the finest ingredients. With roots in a 130-year-old family olive business, Alivàru takes pride in its top-notch products and cozy atmosphere.
This is the best dinner in Palermo. I have been eating here every time I’ve come to Palermo — for the last 3 years. I bring my groups here and they always accommodate in the most generous and delicious ways. Their food is prepared with such intention and love— ingredients are the best— the flavors mind blowing. Eat here again and again. Thank you Carlo and family — your food is amazing.

Arrived at 7pm without a reservation - and glad we did because the Osteria was solid booked within the hour! Started with the polpette made with sardines and raisins - delicious! I had the spaghetto with shrimp, zucchini and pistachio pesto and my husband had the pasta bianco ragu. Wonderful and simple local cuisine! Service was perfect - left us alone and still knew when to approach. Hostess was very friendly! Grazie!

This was exactly what I wanted and dreamed of for a meal in Palermo! Seasonal ingredients, Sicilian flavors, simple but elevated preparations, made with obvious love and care. Put this place at the top of your list for your visit. Carlo and Linda are a dream team. You will find the most authentic Palermitan vibes here. Don’t miss out!

I was teaching a class in Palermo a week ago and brought a group to this restaurant as part of our welcome dinner for the experience. Several different people with different eating habits were accommodated for while we were treated to plate after plate of different appetizers and main courses– all beautifully laid out on the plates and served with care and intentionality. All of the servers were incredibly kind and friendly, helping us have a great experience. Many of the people were first time in Sicily, so they really got to understand the different kinds of flavors and preparations in this cuisine. They even brought us several different amaros to try at the end. It was truly spectacular - one of the best dining experiences I've had in Sicily. The chef came out and we chatted with him! What a nice man. I deeply recommend this place for excellent food and beautiful ambience.

A lovely lunch at Osteria Alivàru da Carlo Napoli. The restaurant is located in the Kalsa, the ancient Arab quarter of Palermo. We started with the baccala sfincione-style, and the roasted octopus with a purée of carrot & ginger. For main courses, the paccheri bolognese and the baked orata with potatoes. Everything was very good!
Francine L — Google review
We were in Palermo for four days and this was the best meal we had. We enjoyed the food immensely and were blown away by the reasonable prices. Service was a little slow, but honestly you should lean into that and take your time enjoying the excellent food. Our visit was on a Tuesday night in late February and the restaurant was busy (unexpected, and evidence of popularity) but not overly crowded. Everything we had was wonderful. Do yourself a favour and get the caponata, seriously.
John F — Google review
Wow. The reviews were misleading. After a week in Palermo, trying out various venues on a budget and being amazed, we decided to spoil ourselves with a nice dinner at this seemingly higher scale establishment. The service was a little chaotic where we had 4 different servers coming to our table repeating the same offers. The only redeeming quality of the food we received was the plating, which was entirely contradictory to the quality of the food itself. We received a small pre-sliced, unseasoned portion of medium rare veal (the cook of the meat was not addressed when ordering). We also ordered a filet of seabream with potatoes. The fish came small, breaded, sans potatoes, and the texture proved to be that of a once frozen, then very over-cooked fish (disappointing since fresh fish is practically standard in other Palermo establishments). After reminding a server that the potatoes were missed, I received day-old reheated potatoes in an over-compensating plate. Such a disappointment.

Pizza restaurant
Arte e Tradizione is a pizzeria popular with Palermo locals and recommended by local residents. The pizzas are simple but delicious, with a wide selection of pies to choose from. The atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, making it a great place to visit for a casual evening out.
We've eaten here twice while on holiday in Palermo. The food and service is excellent. The pizzas are fresh and taste very good, we would highly recommend. Their pastas are also really good as well we had spaghetti carbonara the second night and a starter of the buffalo bomba. They have waiters who speak English and their menu is online and very extensive and available in English. They have tables both inside and outside

We went 4 times in 1 week to this restaurant because of the delicious pizza and the lovely ambient. Best pizza I have ever eaten. The service is really kind and fast. Sadly, our vacation ends so we will miss the food. All the best to the restaurant team from Germany and thank you for the great food!

This became a favorite place during our stay in Palermo. Pizza selection, quality, and taste was the best we found. Dessert is homemade and delicious. They also have their own bottled beers A&T which are awesome. Highly recommended!
Jason _ — Google review
Pizzas were tasty. Personnel courteous enough, but service was kind of slow due to the lack of hard cooy menus, but via QR codes and weak mobile network signal...so we could not see the menu... They helped us to connect us to their WiFi network and then we were able to browse the menu and order.
Miroslav J — Google review
Our first time visiting here, we were happy and excited. Had we finally, finally, found a pizzaria that is excellent on every single metric? Because, they clearly know what they are doing! We ordered the Emilian and the Explosion of Flavour - and while they were not exactly what we were looking for, we could see the 'art' or 'science' behind them. The Explosion of Flavour had, unlike so many other Sicilian dishes, flavour, and the Emilian was just pure genius. The lemon/citrus dough was >fantastic<, even a bite with only dough and nothing else was still nice because it reminded you of lemon cake. The addition of the teriyaki-esque sauce and the green pesto, together with the nice amount of ham, created such a unique flavour, wow. Absolutely brilliant. We were looking for a more red/tomato-y flavour though, perhaps spicy, definitely very flavourful, but we were optimistic. So we came back a second time, and ordered the Diavoli and the Del Maso. And... We really really wanted to like the pizzas, but we were slightly disappointed. They just were not so flavourful as we had hoped for, the Diavoli was not spicy at all, and the Del Maso tasted mostly like cheese and ham (speck, but it wasn't very flavourful at all, if we wouldn't know it from the menu we'd call it ham), which was disappointingly normal and bland-ish. The olives (on Diavoli) and mushrooms (on Del Maso) felt as if they were unfrozen (because e.g. mushrooms should be smoother, not so squishy, if they are not frozen, and they also didn't give that much flavour). The dough, though, was again perfect, and I do want to give compliments for that, every type of dough was extremely well made. All in all, we still want to come back here to give it a third try, because the Emilian was just so perfect, and the Explosion of Flavour proves that they can make flavourful pizzas - but surely a Diavoli would also be one of the most flavourful pizzas, right? But it wasn't... Even though this disappointed us, we know the pizzeria is objectively good, so we do want to give it another chance.
Roy O — Google review
Unfortunately the pizza was mid.😔I got a margarita the cheese and sauce tasted funky but the dough was fire, perhaps another flavor would be better?! The pistachio seafood pasta tho slapped 10/10.
Ahmed E — Google review
A really lovely little pizzeria - tucked away in a small side street, which actually adds to its charm. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The starter was great, the pizza was perfectly sized and delicious, and the dessert was excellent as well. The only small downside was the wine list, which could be a bit more extensive - but that's just a personal preference. All in all, a great experience! If you ever find yourself in Palermo again, this is definitely a spot you shouldn't miss.

We visited this sweet little spot on the recommendation of our tour guide. What a treat! There are so many interesting pizza options to choose from, the service was warm and welcoming, and we loved our outdoor dining setting. Thank you for a wonderful evening - this was one of our favorite pizzas in all of Sicily! (We had the delicious "All In" - highly recommended, especially if you want to try something without a red sauce base. Gratzie!

Seafood restaurant
Molo Sant'Erasmo - Trattoria sul Mare is a top restaurant in Palermo known for its delicious seafood dishes and stunning sea view. The establishment offers reasonably priced, fresh food with efficient service. While some visitors note that the kitchen can be slow during busy times, the overall dining experience is highly enjoyable. Guests can also relax on sun loungers after savoring delectable seafood and pasta dishes.
My partner and I had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant. The food exceeded our expectations, with each dish showcasing exceptional flavors and quality ingredients. The clam pasta featured incredibly fresh clams paired with a perfectly balanced sauce, while the shrimp pasta stood out with its rich and flavorful shrimp paste. Complemented by a superb selection of Sicilian wine, our meal was truly memorable. Having visited numerous restaurants, we can confidently say that this was the best so far. Highly recommended.

The view is amazing and the menu has my favorite oysters. Loved the seafood plateau. It's worth working on preparing the asparagus and squid. I would especially mention the swordfish with vegetables and desserts. Very attentive and polite staff. Unfortunately e-cigarettes are allowed, one customer's iqos smelled disgusting and spoiled the experience. I understand that Italy allows smoking e-cigarettes in restaurants, so be prepared.

Great experience! It was our second time here - we first visited four years ago during the winter. This time, we came without a reservation, but they still found us a lovely table upstairs. The food was amazing, with great recommendations from the waitress. The live music added a perfect touch to the evening. We’re very happy with the whole experience

Pleasant setting, attentive staff, although the shellfish platter was not served on crushed ice and lacked freshness. The cooking techniques were well thought out, although too greasy for our liking. NB: The presentation of the lobster carpaccio on the risotto could have been more attractive .Thank you for the pleasant experience still!

Day 4

Keep it simple
For day 4, these 5 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Palermo. Start the day with Parco Piersanti Mattarella (Giardino Inglese) and make your way through the city to get to Monumento alla Strage di Capaci. This should take about 8 hours of your day.

Park
Parco Piersanti Mattarella, also known as Giardino Inglese, is a charming city garden in Palermo designed in the English style and dating back to 1851. It features water elements, sculptures, and monuments. The park offers a serene escape with its lush greenery and numerous walking paths. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll or find peaceful spots to relax amidst the wide green areas and abundant trees.
Such a beautiful park! Paradise among cacti and palms with some interesting sculptures. Real retreat from the bustling city centre. Marvelous! Absolutely marvellous!

Nice Park, but would require some maintenance in certain parts. Beautiful huge trees, but also some rubbish around. There is also a section for kids with many attractions, so it might be a great choice for the family. It was quite empty when we were there. There are some parking spots around main gate.
Marika N — Google review
My traveling companion and I visited the park in 09-2022 and we enjoyed the stroll throughout while on our way to another destination. The gardens were being cleaned and trimmed at the time we visited. We did note the place has been grossly neglected and the pond is under renovation and from the look of the temporary structure for quite sometime. Still, we looked past the litter and renovation and enjoyed watching the turtles sunbathing and the goldfish swimming in the pond. One turtle swam right up to us and we were sorry we didn’t have any turtle food. All memorials are inscribed in Italian and we didn’t observe any other language descriptions. We used a phone translator for the statutes that we were most interested in. We noted a bar in one part of the park and several teenagers milling around. All folks in the park were friendly and waved with a “ciao” greeting while we took photos and videos. Two boys were playing in a grocery cart and we had fun videoing their theatrics. This garden park could be so much more but I immagine the city doesn’t have the necessary funds to maintain the land as the sidewalks leading into the area were full of trash and in disrepair. Watch where you step! Trees, plants, wildlife were fun to observe. There appeared to be a kiddie amusement park nearby but we did not investigate. We recommend a quick walk through to observe the turtles, fish, trees, shrubs, and florals.
Betta R — Google review
A very pleasant place for a stroll in the park. This is quite a large one and is reasonably well-kept with room for improvement. You'll find sculptures, giant fig trees and places to sit. Great for kids to run around. With rather more tender loving care this could be a five-star park.

Sicilian restaurant
Buatta Cucina Popolana is a charming trattoria located in the heart of Palermo, near the bustling Vucciria market. Housed in a historic shop dating back to 1870, this restaurant offers a modern twist on traditional Sicilian dishes. The chef, Fabio Cardilio, focuses on using fresh and high-quality ingredients to create authentic flavors of Sicilian and Palermo cuisine.
Buatta Cucina Popolana offers a charming and authentic take on Sicilian cuisine in a lively, welcoming setting. The food is consistently well-prepared, with familiar classics elevated just enough to feel both traditional and fresh. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, striking a great balance between professionalism and warmth. Service feels relaxed but efficient, which adds to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, with a great selection of local options to complement the menu. The atmosphere is vibrant, especially during dinner — buzzing with conversation, yet still comfortable. It’s a popular spot, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, especially if you’re planning to go in the evening.

I went with two friends, and we tried the tasting menu. Unfortunately, the food itself was underwhelming — the flavours felt unbalanced, and the sausages were so salty they were almost inedible. Overall, the food felt uninspired; we would have been better off picking something fresh from the farmers market. Service was attentive and friendly, definitely better than the food, and the ambience was fine but nothing remarkable. Regardless, the restaurant was busy and lively, with guests clearly having a good time
Dusko I — Google review
First, the positive: An effort was made to provide us with service in French, the food was excellent (except one dish that I talk about in the constructive section) and the wine suggested was excellent. Now, the constructive. We had a reservation; we failed to understand that if we wanted the tasting menu, we had to reserve it too. Our mistake. However no effort was made to help us pick dishes that would give a somewhat comparable experience; they also could have asked the chef (or pretend to ask the chef). Then, after being served our dishes, no one came to see us to inquire if they were ok; the spaghetti dish was undercooked. The service team was clearly overwhelmed and had little to no time for us. We had specified we were celebrating an anniversary, no mention (not looking for more than being wished happy anniversary). We were not offered dessert nor coffee. After 15 minutes waiting we realized we needed to go to the cashier to pay. Not a big deal, just an accumulation of irritants that would not be an issue by themselves, but they added up. Over this trip through Italy and Greece, we ate at several Michelin Bibs. Every time the experience was impeccable. This time, we walked out thinking we could have gone elsewhere and potentially get a better experience.
Eric S — Google review
We booked a month in advance and had been looking forward to this dinner, as it was our honeymoon. At first, the restaurant seemed charming, and we were welcomed with a complimentary starter. But from there, things went downhill. We ordered the chef’s tasting menu. While the food was good—not amazing—it took an incredibly long time between courses. Even worse, the staff didn’t clear our table between dishes. By the time we were served the last course, there was still leftover snail shells from the first dish. To make matters worse, we found a hair in one of the dishes. We weren’t offered any compensation or even an apology, and we were still charged the full amount. Additionally, there was a large Italian group near us loudly singing all night, making the atmosphere feel more like a market than a fine dining experience. I couldn’t even hear my partner speak. For dessert, we were served homemade ice cream, which didn’t impress us at all. Overall, it was quite expensive. We came prepared to pay for a quality meal and experience, but sadly, this evening did not deliver on either.

Absolutely outstanding experience at Buatta Palermo! From the first moment, the hospitality and atmosphere felt truly special elegant yet warm, perfectly reflecting Sicilian charm. Every dish was full of character and flavor, beautifully presented and prepared with real care. The tasting plate and traditional pasta were exceptional, and the freshness of the seafood was remarkable. Service was professional yet friendly, making us feel completely at home. A genuine taste of Sicily authentic, soulful, and unforgettable. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Palermo!
Sam M — Google review
We had the tasting menu, majority of the dishes were seafood. It was good, some of these things I have tried for the first time ever. We went for a dinner and the place was packed, so staff was very busy and they forgot our drinks a couple of times. Worth trying, but probably not for a romantic dinner date.
Zofia L — Google review
A restaurant that should be removed from the Michelin guide. Nothing special but high prices. The usual flavors. Same as any other restaurant in the main street. So, no specific reason to go here and pay for more. Way overpriced for what is it. And some of the staff, particularly the main members, feel they are doing a favor to you instead of treating clients friendly. Skip this restaurant.

The Regional Archeological Museum Antonio Salinas, also known as the Palermo Archaeological Museum, is housed in a historic 17th-century building and boasts an impressive collection of ancient artifacts from Sicily's rich history. The museum features Phoenician and ancient Greek art, including sculptures, vessels, mosaics, and items from Egyptian and Phoenician cultures.
Seems like many exhibitions shown in the google map doesn’t exist but it was a very nice little quiet place. The artifacts are not too overwhelmingly many. My favorite is the two mice pot. You can also rest in the yard and enjoy the quietness and fresh air. (Many turtles

This museum is truly extraordinary. The collection spans the entire history of Sicily, from the earliest indigenous cultures to the Greek period and beyond, with artifacts and treasures that are nothing short of breathtaking. What I loved most is that it’s not overwhelming. Everything is displayed on a single floor, making it very easy to navigate while still feeling incredibly rich in detail. The explanations are clear and highly informative, with descriptions also provided in English, which made the experience seamless as an English speaker. Every piece tells a story and gives you a sense of the deep roots of Sicilian culture. If you’re a history lover, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty and significance of ancient civilizations, this is an absolute must-visit. Truly unforgettable.

That's exactly how a museum should be, every single explanation and by every single i really mean it has a proper translation into english and the panels are big so nobody has to force their eyes, every single object well described, big halls with very well displayed exhibitions about how the temple's decoration would be back at the time, vr devices, really classy bar with fair prices, toilettes and gift shop with good prices too, not expensive ticket, to be fair it seems that there was a second floor that was closed and no indications whatsoever....it's a small but in a overall really enjoyful experience

It has been recognized with prestigious awards, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.
Saw this on google recommendations, Had a lovely breakfast here which a variety of sweet and savoury here. Returned for evening drinks, which was joined with amazing treats. One being some sort of strawberry cream tart, best I have ever tasted. Also the service was quick, polite and very friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing cause of its location down a cozy walkway, full of orange trees. Don’t miss this place.

Loved the place. The atmosphere is amazing. I ordered desserts and some cookies to go. It was nice. During Christmas holidays it was quite busy and the staff was handling it with a nice smile on their face. You can stay there and enjoy ur time while eating some amazing dessert and drinks.

The panini and coffee were good, and the waiter was friendly and attentive despite a language barrier. Some details could be improved, such as cleaner cutlery and serving water in a proper glass instead of a plastic cup. Overall, a relaxed café that feels more like 3.5 stars, but I’ll round it up to 4

Spinnato dal 1860, an old-school cafe in Palermo on a beautiful tree-lined pedestrian street, is the perfect place for an afternoon drink, a snack, or an aperitivo before dinner. - as well as great people watching! They also have a more modern cafe on the Piazza Castelnuovo, right across the street from the Politeama Theatre.

The arancini’s were okay, the coffee was good, the devils food cake was dry and too sweet. The waiter was a bit rude, got our order wrong and still tried to charge us for the extra thing we didn’t order. I wouldn’t recommend, nor would I return.

This cafe has been in operation since 1860. Inside, you have a candy store, full cakes, pastries, ice creams, and dessert sections. Outside, there is a large covered patio. We were served by different servers, which caused a long delay when asking for the bill. Coffee was OK and the desserts freshly made and a bit too sweet.

Located in Palermo, Sicily, the Monumento alla Strage di Capaci is a significant landmark commemorating the tragic events of the Capaci massacre. This monument holds great historical importance as it honors the victims and serves as a reminder of Giovanni Falcone's relentless fight against the mafia. The upcoming 30th anniversary of the attack has sparked discussions about refurbishing this site to ensure better access for visitors.
Really important historic place for Sicily and Italy. The story of Falcone's fight against mafia is amazing.

A fitting monument to one of Sicily's greatest heroes, Giovanni Falcone. People have not forgotten him and his sacrifices for the island and continue to bring flowers, candles, and more. Please join them! The memorial garden is beautiful, yet naturally, the energy can still be heavy and dense - unsurprisingly, considering what happened here in 1992. But likewise, there is also a huge amount of love and appreciation. His memory lives on🙏

Casa del Brodo dal Dottore is a charming restaurant located in the old town center of Palermo, offering a rich menu of traditional Sicilian dishes. The restaurant prides itself on skillfully harmonizing the flavors of the sea while maintaining wholesomeness and natural taste.
Really nice environment with a polite yet fun service. Shout out to the waiter! The fish meatballs were amazing and the notes of mint really made the flavor layered and intriguing. Was expecting a bit more from the sea urchin pasta but was still very good.

Exceptional service, local Palermitan feel. Went based on an older Rick Steves reco. Disappointingly simple under seasoned lackluster food. Grilled caciocavallo was salty and seared, slightly squeaky and just ok. Bucatini con le sarde I specifically asked to confirm that it was made with saffron (waiter assured me that it absolutely was), but there was not the slightest hint of saffron (or raisins or fennel or pine nuts) in the dish which was instead packed with lots and lots of bread crumbs. Tongue was lacking in any clear taste, but the accompanying celery leaf green sauce was fantastic. Mixed salad was only fine. Waiter was fantastic... very friendly, informative, and a jokester. If you want a bland yet authentic experience, give it a shot. I should have tried the tortellini in brodo, but will not be going back. Saffron potatoes were bland, crying out for salt. Seven veils and semifreddo desserts did not taste fresh at all.

This was my seventh visit to a Palermitan institution. Good food is everywhere in Sicilia, the climate provides year round quality produce. So it takes a special place for repeated visits. Casa Del Brodo makes good use of ingredients from the sea and land. We had a delicious aubergine caponata followed by Pasta con Sarde, which is always on the menu, and why not? It's delightful. A spicy full-bodied Noa washed it all down. The service is always excellent, fun and friendly (even on a busy Saturday dinner service). Ensure to book in advance.

This place was a fantastic discovery. The food was delicious, from the starters to the main courses. Our waiter was exceptional; despite us having a mix of different languages, he handled it incredibly well. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

We ordered the fried fish and seafood platter and the bucatini con sarde and dessert after - tiramisu and cassata, some of the best food we ate in Sicily. This is exactly what eating out should be : a beautiful, historic setting, a buzzy atmosphere (sitting in or outside), kind and generous service (I was a mum eating out pretty late with my seven year old daughter), amazing details, simple Palermitan dishes cooked to absolute perfection. The guests were all beautifully attired locals, going out as couples, or groups of families and friends. A wonderful experience. All reasonably priced. Grazie Mille Casa del Brodo!

Good food in a spacious bright Restaurant. We had the polpo in a fennel flavoured potato mash, the tortellini in broth, Sea urchin spaghetti and grilled swordfish. I was expecting the small Bolognese tortellini, and was slightly disappointed at the size of the pasta but the taste was good. Swordfish could have done with a bit more seasoning. Service was good.
Tor C — Google review
The food was disappointing, one of our worst experience in 25 years in Italy. The polpo was undercooked, the tortellini in brodo were mediocre, the brodo was too salty. I guess the chef was on vacations! Bred was excellent though.

Nice pizza & burger place with a strong Sicilian identity and excellent food. Very creative and interesting menu with something for everyone. A good variety of desserts as well. Very good prices and servings, too! Plenty of covered outdoor seating in a pleasant back piazza off the busy tourist streets. Excellent attentive and professional servers are there for you but don't hover. Excellent setting for families and groups. I highly recommend!

This place was recommended to us to try a Sicilian burger, after a quick Google review of previous feedback we thought we’d try it. Service was good, had a couple of Sicilian Mules to start with followed by our burgers. Wife had a chicken burger which she was very happy with, really enjoyed it. I had a Buffalo meat burger (with an egg of course 😉), the patty was great as was the filling but unfortunately the bun was over done, to the point it was tough and chewy, put a bit of a downer on the experience. Don’t let my bad bun put you off, I still recommend trying it out.

Are here twice on my visit. We chose to eat outside. Our server (wish I got his name) was really friendly and kind. I got the Italian burger without mayo. Really yummy. Ordered a side of fries to share (there were plenty) and tried their Fudcola which I enjoyed .

OMG! Definitely a place to go to when craving a great dinner in a cozy atmosphere. The burgers actually taste healthier here :) and the salads are so go that even when you are full, you cannot stop eating. The outdoor patio adds to the charm, and the service is so friendly that you'll be definitely back! We tried the onion potatoes, a Buffalo burger and a Tiuana salad accompanied by a glass of beer and prosecco. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you get.

Super nice place in the middle of Palermo. There are many different options from burgers, panini, pizza etc. Very good quality meat. The star is cheesecake for sure so make some room to try it. We had delicious Buffalo Burger and pulled pork plate with slow cooked pork and apple slices and potato wedges. The fries are also great, specially once with bacon and cheese. They have also great beer and salad options. Also gluten-free dessert. Staff is very friendly and they also have little shop where you can buy some dips for cheese and meat and some pistachio and other creams. Super cool place to chill and have good food in Palermo. And once again the cheesecake is absolutely amazing.

Fast food restaurant
Southern Italian restaurant
I Cuochini is a historic deli established in 1826, located on Via Ruggero Settimo. Originally catering to Sicilian aristocrats, it has evolved into a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The deli offers a variety of freshly made products including savory pastries like panzerotti, arancine, pasta timbales, and the famous pane e panelle - a sandwich roll with fried chickpea flour slices.
Great Street Food. The pieces are small but that means you can try a number of them and not be too full. Also, they are of a very high quality. We tried the Arancini Carne, Crocchette di Latte, Chickpea in a Bun, and a Cheese Pastry. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The packaging of the eight piece was very attractive to look at. Maybe a minor point but showed the care they take of the produce. At €1 per piece the food is extremely affordable and value for money.

26/10/2023 I wanted to try something local, made on spot, not the frozen ones; and yes, I was pleasantly impressed: the dough and the ingredients are fresh and good. I recommend this place so you can taste tasty local products and to have a comparison point of taste in everything you’ll try in your Palermo journey It’s a little bit difficult to find, because is inside a gang of a building , but also is near the Garibaldi Theater so it’s not impossible.

Gagini is a stylish restaurant located in the former studio of 16th-century sculptor Antonello Gagini in Palermo. The space offers a cozy and dramatic setting with ancient stone walls, ceramic Teste di Moro, and wrought iron candlesticks. The tasting menu features modern interpretations of classic Sicilian recipes by chef Mauricio Zillo, drawing on his Italian-Brazilian background.

My wife and I enjoyed a very special evening at Ristorante Gagini. The location is very pedestrian-friendly. The building is from the 16th century, wiith ancient stone walls that take you back in time. The modern furniture and artwork is lovely. Giuseppe (manager), the sommelier and our server made our evening wonderful from arrival to departure. The service and the food were excellent. We requested a wine pairing for our a la carte meals and it was an excellent experience. We recommend and would return again without question!

Amazing restaurant in Palermo, hard to find gem in the city. The tasting menu at €110, was a bargain, serious creation in the dishes. The harmony of taste was unreal, the tasting menu was six courses, and definitely it was worth the money and a portions and flavors were wonderful. Mondello Beach, located on the outskirts of Palermo, is a renowned Sicilian destination. The beach boasts white sandy shores and pastel-colored beach huts, offering a picturesque setting for visitors. Just a short half-hour drive from Palermo, Mondello provides an ideal escape from the city. The town itself sits right along the coast, creating a charming backdrop against the pristine beach. Visitors can enjoy dining at restaurants and bars with stunning views of the sea.
I arrived to Mondello with boat trip from Palermo. Really nice trip, not too far from Palermo Harbour near the city centre. Really beautiful clear turquoise water, many fishes. A very nice half day tour when in Palermo. I think whether we come to Mondello Beach with car or with boat, both are beautiful equally.

Really beautiful beach outside of Palermo, easy to reach via public transit grabbing the 806 bus. Plenty of spaces to sit around the beach, both free and for purchase. The water was beautiful and the landscape around the city surrounded by mountains is sublime.
Andres Q — Google review
The beach itself is very beautiful with warm and transparent water. But the problem is infrastructure, only one public toilet, a lot of dirty, not enough garbage bins. Not enough small groceries. But anyway, maybe this is generic problem for touristic places in Italy, or Sicily. In total, amazing place to visit and swim for a few day, as for long term vacation is not adopted yet.
Alexey Z — Google review
We visited in mid to late September, and it was still quite busy. Sandy beach and clear water. 🏖️ It was easy to find space, even in the free public areas, though towards the eastern end of the beach (near the rocky side) there was a faint smell of sewage in the air. Loads of noise due to some people playing loud music on speakers and noisy vendors along the beach. It’s a good option for a quick beach trip not far from Palermo city, but overall we preferred Cefalù Beach, which was cleaner and quieter.
Sunny N — Google review
A really nice beach to relax and enjoy. You can take a 10mins bus ride from the city and a few minutes walk to get there We visit there in May the weather is nice, sun light and not too hot. It’s a really good time to visit.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Palermo, it is accessible by car and even by bus. You have the private side with excellent rates, a place and shower available and even toilets. The first line is free for anyone who has their own parasol. I also recommend it especially if you are for a long stay. You also have outdoor showers and toilets. There are local restaurants and a very cute little port. I wish you an excellent stay and don't forget to return early in the day if you use the bus and to observe the times of the last bus. 🌹
Kamil K — Google review
A very beautiful beach and sea! It’s lovely for swimming, the water stays shallow for quite a distance, reaching only up to your hips even several meters in (for a smaller-sized person). Both the beach and the sea are clean and very pleasant. The only downside is that the beach is packed with sunbeds, leaving little space for people who don’t want to pay for one and just want to lay down a towel. Other than that, it’s easily reachable by bus from Palermo, no need for a private taxi. The bus works just fine and is very convenient. Highly recommended!

The reserve also boasts the beautiful Capo Gallo beach where dwarf palms effortlessly grow amidst rocky formations.
Stunning hiking only a stone-throw from Palermo. You first need to go to Mondello and walk about 15’ then pay the 1 euro entrance (if you are walking) and that’s it. Gorgeous views of the sea and the hills. Highly recommended to pair out with a day at the beach in Mondello.
Gonzalo — Google review
I paid 6 euros to enter with the car, but overall, I was a bit disappointed. I tried entering from the other side, but even with research, I didn’t fully understand how to get in, where to park, or how to reach the beaches. There wasn’t much clear signage or explanation, and I ended up losing a lot of time just figuring things out. The beaches that had more people were very crowded, and the quieter ones were far away and quite hard to access, especially if you wanted to get close to the water. It’s definitely a beautiful area, but not very easy to navigate. If you plan to visit, come prepared for a bit of confusion and a good amount of walking.

Great walking experience through the nature reserve with some wild goats living in the area. The rocks can be used as access to the sea for amazing clear waters for swimming or snorkeling 🤿 or just to relax with a book. It's a very calming area, we enjoyed it a lot! The entrance fee is 1€ per person and 6€ per car, there is a parking lot in the southern area.

Very pretty park with some history, the more you hike the more you will get out of it as the narroe road only gets you so far. 4 stars because there's very unofficial looking people holding a rope at the entry collecting €6 to drive in. The cost doesn't look like it goes to the park though.

A bit hard to find, but if you keep walking along coast from Mondello beach you will stumble upon the entrance to the reserve. We were able to pay 1 euro per person either cash or credit. Gigantic fig(ficus) root system. It's kind of sad there isn't much space for it to spread. But the trees are amazing and the park is a saviour from the heat. Also features some turtles and a happy happy dog (not sure who's). And some goldfish in the muddy water.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Palermo, the Chiesa di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria stands as a testament to the city's rich history and artistic heritage. This grand Catholic church boasts an ornate facade that greets visitors at Piazza Bellini, while its lateral side offers stunning views of the impressive Fontana Pretoria. The church's design showcases a blend of Renaissance, Baroque, and late-Baroque (Rococo) elements, reflecting centuries of architectural evolution.
The monastery of Santa Caterina is the perfect option to start your day in palermo. There is garden with free access where you will find the bakery with the famous canoli and other local sweets. Apart from the garden you can get in the church, which I totally recommend and also go to the top of the church for the beautiful panoramic view of the city.
Τάκης Χ — Google review
For me the view from the roof was great. The stewards in the church and monastery were helpful and polite. I wish I could say the same about the ladies serving behind the counter at the bakery. Perhaps it’s too busy. Other than the physical location at the monastery I found the bakery touristic. To buy pastries I would personally recommend to try and find a more genuine bakery. The small garden in the courtyard is lovely, though.
Shelley B — Google review
Small church (undergoing restoration s of September 2025) but still worth the visit. We bought the more expensive ticket (10€) to go to the church, monastery and on to the roof. This was worth it for the city views as we couldn’t access the main cathedral roof due to a Sunday service was ongoing. The bakery has many sweet treats and they are big and tasty. Of course you pay for the cannoli by weight so the big ones cost more!

We visited the Church and Monastery of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria in the heart of Palermo. It was truly a revelation. From the outside, it looks almost unassuming, but step inside and you’re greeted by an extraordinary Baroque interior overflowing with stucco, marble, and gilded ornamentation. The sheer level of detail is breathtaking. It’s one of those places where your eyes don’t know where to rest first. The adjoining monastery offers a quieter, more reflective experience. It’s easy to imagine the cloistered life the nuns once lived here, moving between the peaceful courtyards and the elegant corridors. One of the highlights is climbing up to the terrace, which offers a panoramic view of Palermo. A host of rooftops, domes, and the mountains beyond. It’s one of the best viewpoints in the city. This visit was one of our favorites in Palermo — a blend of art, history, and tranquility in the middle of the city’s vibrant chaos. Take time to explore both the church and the monastery. The terrace view and the pastries alone are worth the modest entry fee.
Mark M — Google review
Currently under construction, both from the inside and outside. Therefore you don't get to see it's entire beauty for 3€. If you buy the ticket for 8€ you can also visit the monastery. The garden inside is really beautiful!

so beautiful place 🤍 we took tickets to see Church, Monastery and rooftop, really beautiful and peaceful place. Good to see, and very tasty patisserie cafeteria inside after the tour 😜
Jenny L — Google review
Incredible church! Very unique!! The marble inlays are incredible. Also, there was a pass-through turnstile for the nuns to provide things into the church.
Michael P — Google review
Great baroque church with 3€ entrance per person. It's still accessible except the altar area, which is covered with a high green fence. All of the paintings and decorations are available together with the fake remains of the Saint.

Chiesa di San Cataldo is an atmospheric Norman church with a distinct Arabic-style architecture, featuring three striking red domes. Built in 1154, it has retained its original interior with mosaic floors. The church is part of the historical sites in Italy and is frequented by students due to its Jugendstil ambiance. Adjacent to the spectacular Martorana Church, Chiesa di San Cataldo stands out for its unique architectural style and spare yet intense stone interior.
Chiesa del San Cataldo is an absolute gem that truly captivates the heart of Palermo. Its striking architecture, with its bold, geometric façade and unique Arab-Norman influences, immediately draws you in. Stepping inside, you’re met with a serene ambiance where history and art harmoniously converge. The interplay of light through its distinctive windows and the meticulously crafted details create a spiritual sanctuary that invites both reflection and admiration. Every element of the church speaks to a rich cultural legacy, making it a must-visit for art enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone seeking a peaceful retreat. Chiesa del San Cataldo is more than just a place of worship—it’s an immersive experience that showcases the timeless beauty and depth of Sicilian heritage. Without a doubt, this extraordinary site deserves every one of its 5 stars.

Compared to the Santa Maria church right next to this one it is really underwhelming. Also the tickets cost more than the Santa Marta Church while it's much smaller, the air is really stale and maybe less than 40 people fit into this church. There is probably a reason for why the ticket shop covers the church with a massive curtain to avoid visitors from seeing in advance what they are going to pay for. Definitely visit the Santa Marta Church for 2€, but this one for 2,50€ I'm not sure.
Andi — Google review
Arab style domes that represent the Holy Spirit Trinity are magnificent. This church is an interesting example of Norman architecture with Arabic influence - like the fusion of two main religions: Christianity and Islam. Must be seen!
Irina A — Google review
Small peaceful church that illustrates the Arab and Norman influences in Palermo. Enjoyed the simplicity of it. It was €2.5 to enter.
T E — Google review
Despite its naked walls inside, it is still impressive, especially the opus sectile floor that dates back to the 12th century.
Kallirroe L — Google review
Next to La Martorana is The Church of San Cataldo (Chiesa di San Cataldo), a beautiful example of wonderful Arabian-Norman architecture. San Cataldo is one of the sites in Palermo inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was founded by William I's chancellor, Maio of Bari c. 1160. In that year, Maio was assassinated with the result that San Cataldo's interior never was decorated. After 1787 the church served as a post office before being later restored in 1885. The architecture inside the church is takes you back in time to that period it’s a beautiful place to visit.

Small church but with significant importance as you can see from the exterior design of it. Standing only visit you cannot sit inside. Inexpensive 2.50 euro entry.

Porta Nuova is a historic triumphal arch and gateway in Palermo, standing at 43 meters high with Moorish statues. It marks the beginning of an ancient street that runs straight for nearly two miles from the sea to Porta Felice, encompassing many of Palermo's main attractions. The gate was erected in the late 16th century after Charles V's victory over the Turkish armies and serves as an entrance to the historical part of Sicily's capital.
Honestly a really impressive gate that is nicely illuminated at night and even more stunning at daytime. Inside the gate you can find a few statues. There are also cafes and restaurants nearby.
Andi — Google review
Porta Nuova, which means "New Gate," is a famous historical monument and the entrance to Palermo, Sicily. It is located at the northern end of the Norman Palace, at the beginning of Corso Calatafimi, and serves as the entryway to the Cassaro, the city's oldest and most important avenue. According to historian Tommaso Fazello, the first gate was built in the 15th century and was known as Porta dell'Aquila, or Eagle Gate. However, the people of Palermo lovingly renamed it Porta Nuova, a name that has remained. This aristocratic entrance received extensive renovations in the sixteenth century to commemorate Emperor Charles V's victory against the Ottoman Turks in Tunis. A catastrophic explosion in 1667 nearly destroyed the gate, but it was later reconstructed under the expert supervision of Gaspare Gruccio, who also created the sculptures. The façade facing Piazza Indipendenza is ornamented with four powerful pillars, each with images of Moors conquered by the brave Charles V. Visitors are welcome to view this architectural gem from the outside at no cost.
Pegah E — Google review
A truly beautiful building, remarkable not only for its architectural elegance but also for the layers of history and culture it embodies. Its design reflects both artistic refinement and the social values of the era in which it was created

A landmark which we saw every day while in Palermo and which I really like for its strange beauty. It's a landmark, a gate you can pass through to get into the historical centre of Palermo, so obviously no waiting time or tickets.
Sabine M — Google review
Dirty and dangerous outside. Broken sidewalks and steps. Assaulted by street children trying to steal. Then they threw rocks at us. Not a blade of grass in sight. All cacti and palm trees on the outer grounds. One sickly fountain. No security anywhere.

Loved the architecture, I wish there would be some plate to read about the history of this gate.

"I Segreti del Chiostro" is a hidden gem located within the Chiesa di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, paying homage to the age-old tradition of crafting pastries in convents. The shop offers an array of traditional Sicilian treats such as cassata, cannoli filled with fresh ricotta cream, almond and pistachio cookies, and intricately hand-painted marzipan fruits.
It was an experience that I definitely can’t forget during our vacation in Palermo. It is very difficult to easily find here for someone who doesn’t hear. You enter through the door of a monastery, the attendants guide you and then you find the place you want to reach thanks to the smell of the bakery. I ate the most beautiful cannoli I’ve ever tasted in a perfect courtyard. I don’t want to talk too much so that the beauty of this place is not spoiled, but on the other hand, I want everyone to experience it 🥹Definitely recommended. PS: It is very possible that there is a queue.
Ş T — Google review
After seeing this place online we had to give it a try and I wasn’t disappointed! This cannoli is the BEST one I ever had that now I don’t want cannoli’s around where I live anymore lol. The line was about 15-20 min wait and like many say, you can share one because it’s so big. No place to really sit and eat at the garden because there’s lots of people doing the same thing. The system of lines is controlled and appreciated.
Krammer A — Google review
We joined the very long line at the famous I Segreti del Chiostro while in Palermo. This shop inside the Santa Caterina Monastery prepares pastries using ancient recipes passed down from the nuns. I tried the pistachio cannoli — crisp shell, creamy filling, and perfectly balanced sweetness, though for me it was massive (honestly, too big!). Staff were friendly and patient despite the line. Overall, a must-stop if you love authentic Sicilian pastries from an iconic institution. Saluti

An incredibly pleasant, peaceful place in the heart of Palermo. The pastry shop is located in a convent and promotes the baked goods of local nuns. The charming courtyard, inlaid with mosaics and dotted with citrus trees, provides a beautiful scenery for sweet treats. I have visited this place twice during my stay. Both times, I walked in with a smile. I'm not sure whether I was more impressed by the place itself or the pastries. The latter definitely have plenty of sugar, but that means you don't have to worry about ordering larger portions. I only tried a few delicacies, but I definitely recommend trying the cannoli with ricotta cream and a pistachio sprinkle. You can also buy some gifts insiders including original liquer made of opuntia or pomegranate. A magical, soothe experience in Palermo.
Pablito — Google review
Probably was once only a local place, thanks to online reviews much busier. Waited almost 20 mins to order but it was worth it! Cannolo was HUGE and gratefully shared. I had to try the minne di virgini - very different with chocolate pieces inside and cloves and cinnamon flavors in a marzipan-like filling. We visited the church first and had a chance to see the monastery and climb to the rooftop, but this is not required to get to the dolceria.
Jessica R — Google review
Once you arrive at the entrance it’s a short walk up stairs and down the hallway. There was a line, it took 10-ish minutes and then you’re inside with your number. Once your number is called you quickly place your cannoli order and desserts. The process was too overwhelming for me personally but I think it’s a great place to try many Sicilian desserts for a fair price. The cannoli was too sweet for me, it’s also huge so I recommend splitting it between 2 people. The marzipan was really nice! The fountain area where one can sit was crowded. Overall a nice experience but one could also skip it if they’ve tried Sicilian desserts before
Nia M — Google review
We came here around 2pm on a Saturday in November. Walk to the church and enter on the first level side door. Walk up the stairs and follow the signs to the bakery. There is a line and a woman up front explaining how it works. You receive a number. When your number is called you order. The staff or nun gives you a receipt. You take it to the cashier and pay, then you receive your food. We ordered 2 cannoli, an espresso, and an americano for 12 euro. We took it outside the bakery but within the convent to a pigeon populated square with blue tiles and a fountain. Everyone eating cannoli. Lovely.
Sarah D — Google review
Very unique location and ambiance. The cannolis here are big and well done but the filling is a little on the sweet side and not as delicate and creamy ricotta as those we had at top places in Catania. To us the Catania style was superior.

This iconic sandwich spot is well-known for its calf's spleen sandwich, which is a soft and inviting meal. The restaurant offers seating inside or outdoors in the heart of Palermo's old fishing port.
Delicious food, friendly staff and great prices! We tried to order from their kiosk but it did not have the full menu. We typed our order on our phone and showed the staff. The guy brought over a coworker who spoke English. She explained that they were out of one item but it was fine since we had ordered plenty anyway. The restaurant is fairly small and it was full at the time. Another staff helped us find a table. The menu was very affordable and the food was delicious. We especially loved the Caponata. Highly recommended!

A must-try in Palermo. We had the Pane Ca Meusa Scheto/Maritato - the sandwiches with spleen + lungs and was impressed! Simple but so delicious. The staffs are kind and nice. Having a good time enjoying the meal with cold beer on the terrace!
Bambi ( — Google review
If you are familiar with food made with cow spleen or lungs, you will definitely like the burger. If you are unfamiliar, you might smell some unique smell of meat. Tastes better with bunch of limes. Its intersting to see local men finishing up their burgers, while standing, but definitely enjoying them. The male servers can be more kind.
Angela P — Google review
Had to try the pane ca meusa schetto (sandwich with spleen and lungs). I was afraid, but it was good! Especially with lemon. We also had panelle and cazzilli, which are fried and delicious. We stopped here on a Streaty food tour, so our guide had the options already picked out for us.
Mitch C — Google review
The spleen sandwich was very nice (for me - my girlfriend runs away in horror every time I mention it)! The fries sandwich, sadly, was just a sandwich with fries, and nothing special. The fries were fairly good though. And the portion size is good. All the snacks were quite bland and disappointing - coming from the Netherlands, I expect my deep fried snacks to be very flavourful and very different from each other. So this is a hard place to review; if I would have only ordered the spleen sandwich, four stars, but all the other things were sadly disappointing. The waiting time / line to order was huge (30+ minutes).
Roy O — Google review
If you're looking for a place to try the traditional, fishermens sandwich this is the one. I didn't have the guts to try the spleen sandwich, but took the one with fried things - it cost me 3,5 euro, lots of stuffing, no additional coperto. Not my type of cuisine, but if you're looking for the real local experience outside of pizzas and pastas - here it is, right in the marina.
Anna — Google review
I've come to the place few times already and always at around dinner time to find it very packed everytime. There is no table service and to order you have to line up to pay first and then get your orders. Now, there are plenty of tables but they get occupied easily, but you can always order to go and have a seat across the street in front of the port. The milza (spleen) is very good. The staff is very friendly and simpatici. Shoutout to Sergio e Fabio! And the pannelle and crocchette are just a must-try to eat along with the milza. It's great value for the price. Highly recommended ☺️

get your item ordered and paid at the machine - great for tourist with no Italian skill - convenient and lots of combo options also I am tired at explaining to Italian how terrible they are at making panino bun so I start only talking about how good they are at making beef offal which makes me forget about the panino bun. - get extra cheese and extra meat for your panino:) thank me after

Pasticceria Cappello is a renowned pastry shop located in the historic city center of Palermo. Originally opened as a dairy in the 1940s, it has evolved into a famous pastry shop known for its delectable creations.
This place was very busy on Christmas and for a reason, I saw so many beautiful pastry platters arranged in front of my eyes each more enticing than the other. Draw a number at the entrance and wait for your turn, order, pay at the cashier and pick up your carefully packed sweets. Sfogliata with ricotta was my favourite, super crispy layers and balanced ricotta cream. The pistachio petit fours was also amazing. House chocolate bars with pistachio and other nuts or dried fruit also available at the cashier desk.

Delicious pastries! The tiny gelato sandwich and delizia pistachio cake were so tasty. And the cannolicchio was perfect! Great coffee too.
Julia W — Google review
After trying many cannolis in Palermo, I can confidently say this was by far the best. In addition to their amazing cannolis, we sampled a variety of mignons and an iris — and everything was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was wonderful too, filled with local workers grabbing a quick bite and kids returning from school, which made it feel genuinely authentic. The host was incredibly warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. We had food elsewhere in Palermo that was half as good for twice the price. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting — I honestly wish I could eat here every day.
Lovrog0 — Google review
Amazing. Pastries as beautiful as they are delicious. Good coffee, lovely chocolate. Friendly, decent prices, and they deliver to a lot of restaurants too, like the excellent Osteria Alivàru. If I lived near to this place I'd either be huge or I'd have vitamin deficiency. Not a lot of veg here.
Mark C — Google review
While the cakes themselves were nice, the man who served us was rude. Obnoxious clearly into his phone more than serving us and being somewhat stuck up with my friend's best attempt to speak Italian seemingly consistently misunderstanding which cake she wanted, one or two pieces of. He then proceeded to play with his phone as he was half wrapping our package and generally seemed just annoyed at our existence. The taste of cakes was definitely not worth the attitude that we were given in this place

Great place for a coffee and something to nibble. Amazing croissants with pistachios and the best arancini in the city. I highly recommend arancini with carne (beef).

Pasticceria Cappello is truly the best sweet shop in Palermo. The quality of their baked goods is outstanding, and I absolutely love it. Every time I stay in Palermo, this place makes me fall in love with the city even more. I ended up going there every day to enjoy their delicious cakes and pastries. Highly recommended!

Local cafe/pastry shop. Came here to check if it’s actually the best cannoli in Palermo. Maybe in Palermo it may be the best but i’ve had better. Everyone may like their cannolis in many ways. Their cannoli was different. Did taste authentic. Coffee was good. Service was good, staff were friendly. The best part is this shop is local so the prices are not that expensive. 1 cannoli & a coffee for 2.5 euro! They have alot of variety I would visit again! Highly recommend.

Nestled in the vibrant Kalsa district of Palermo, L'Ottava Nota is a culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional Sicilian flavors with modern flair. This restaurant has been captivating diners since 2012, showcasing inventive dishes that are artfully plated and thoughtfully paired with exquisite wines. The chefs here are passionate about exploring new flavor combinations while honoring the rich heritage of Sicilian cuisine.
I was recommended this place and it was above my expectations. The service is impeccable. The food is exquisite. The different flavors, everything was delicious. Definitely coming back here next time.
Mohamed D — Google review
The food was enjoyable, and the tasting menu was ample enough to satisfy, but there are better value options in Palermo. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. While some waiters were more professional, our main server was unenthusiastic and mumbling when describing the dishes. Despite informing him of my friend’s onion allergy, the main course still arrived with a whole onion in the center of the plate. The atmosphere was excellent, and they have a terrace. However, requesting an outdoor table during booking seems pointless, as we overheard other guests being told the terrace was full, even though they had specifically requested it in advance.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Palermo, look no further than L’Ottava. Tucked away in a quiet street yet just steps from the city’s historic heart, this Michelin-recommended gem delivers a perfect blend of elegance, authenticity, and innovation. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed with warm Sicilian hospitality and a calm, intimate atmosphere. The interior is refined yet relaxed, with soft lighting and tasteful décor that lets the food take center stage. The tasting menu at L’Ottava is a true culinary journey. Each dish is thoughtfully composed, balancing tradition with modern flair. Highlights include the locally sourced seafood – delicate, fresh, and beautifully plated – and the handmade pastas that showcase deep regional character. Every plate tells a story of Sicilian terroir, interpreted with creativity and respect. The wine list is exceptional, featuring a well-curated selection of Sicilian and Italian labels. The sommelier is knowledgeable and passionate, making perfect pairings that elevate each course without overshadowing it. Service is impeccable – attentive without being intrusive, and always genuinely welcoming. The team clearly takes pride in offering a world-class experience. Whether you’re a foodie or simply seeking a special night out in Palermo, L’Ottava is a must-visit. It’s the kind of place that lingers in your memory – where flavors, hospitality, and atmosphere come together in perfect harmony. Ps: The foie gras, tuna, and beetroot dish was a true standout – bold, unexpected, and perfectly balanced. The rich, buttery foie gras melted into the delicate sear of the tuna, while the earthy sweetness of the beetroot added just the right amount of contrast. Every bite was layered with depth and finesse, both in flavor and texture. A daring combination that worked brilliantly – both elegant and unforgettable.

The tuna steak was wow, soft inside and with that little crust outside, really tasty, maybe even too good because I was thinking about it the whole evening. The pasta with prawns on the other side was also super fresh, smelled like sea, I even stole a fork from my friend. Service was good, the waiter was calm, explained slowly, like he had all the time, he even showed the wine bottle like in a movie. Prices… not cheap, I mean you feel it, but then you look at the plate and it makes sense, more classy than the usual place. I noticed the tables were not squeezed, space to breathe, and music was quiet in the back, sometimes I almost forgot it was playing. I regret not trying dessert, they passed by our table with one that looked like a small piece of art, next time for sure.

Absolutely spectacular. The food was creative in all the right ways and the service was perfectly attentive but not overbearing. Pietro was fantastic! Just what we were looking for to try some regional specialties. Definitely recommend the tasting menu - seasonal and delicious. We thought the fish course was a tad overcooked but still delicious in its zebra preparation. Make sure to try the chef’s homemade limoncello with your dessert.

Had a lovely experience! Food was delicious and well plated. Staff was very friendly and their English was quite good, which is always an unexpected bonus when eating out abroad. Only point of feedback would be more consistent timing of dishes for the tasting menu- sometimes they immediately brought the next dish, sometimes 5 min, or for the desert we waited what seemed like 15-20 minutes. Overall a great dinner!

It was a bit empty with people, could be in relation to being there a Wednesday evening. Food and the wine pairing for the degustazione 7 was amazing and I can highly recommend.

I had one of the most amazing meals of my life here. I visited L’ottava nota while visiting Palermo. I wish i could live here long enough to become a regular at this restaurant. I had the seven course tasting menu along with the seven wine pairings. All the courses were incredibly delicious and all but one had me making happy food noises. The wine pairings elevated and matched the food perfectly. I never imagined that truffle ice cream could be part of an appetizer course and take three delicious dishes (foi gras, raw tuna, and beet) to a level I had never imagined. This course will live in my mind forever.
