Španjola Fortress, Hvar

Fortress
Perched atop a hill, Fortica Fortress, also known as Spanjola, is an elevated stronghold accessible by car or a scenic walk. Dating back to the 16th century, this fortress was strategically built to defend Hvar Town against invaders. Visitors can explore its military history and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the town, harbor, and nearby Pakleni Islands. The climb to the fortress offers stunning vistas that capture Hvar's natural beauty and maritime heritage.
A must visit when in Hvar. Make sure you wear comfy walking shoes. The pathway is fairly flat with small pebbles. If you get tired going part way up, there are seats along the way plus there’s a small store to buy water and cold drinks. From the top, the view of Hvar is spectacular as you can see the islands nearby. At the top, there’s a dining area for drinks and food plus a couple of gift stores with handmade crafts. There’s even a prison. The admission to the fortress is 10 Euros for adults. If it’s not within your budget, there are a few photo opts part way up. I would have loved seeing the sunset here.
Melanie E — Google review
The view over Hvar from the fortress is beautiful, but getting there takes a bit of effort. My partner and I went before dinner, all dressed up—not the best idea, since the walk up is longer than it looks. Around 8 pm the small shop for drinks and snacks was already closed, and in the summer heat we ended up sweating quite a bit. I’d recommend visiting in the morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler. At the top, there’s a €10 entrance fee. Inside you’ll find a small prison with narrow stairs and low ceilings, but the real highlight is the stunning panorama of Hvar harbor. Worth it for the view, but plan your timing wisely.
Thobias ( — Google review
It's a long walk up many flights of stairs through the old town followed by an even longer walk up a winding path through the woods to reach the fortress - there are benches here and there to sit on for a rest. If you don't go inside (pay to go in), there isn't much to do apart from admire the view down to Hvar harbour. Top tip: the view is better from the path about one-third of the way down.
David L — Google review
Definitely the best views of Hvar town and out to the islands. We did it 10am and it was a good time, before the bus tours and before it good to hot. It is a climb up the steps in the city but the path is much more gentle. You should buy the combined ticket as it is only 5€ more than the fortress entrance price and then you see the theatre and clock tower too. We glad did. You must go down into the dungeon but the steps are narrow and uneven, so be careful. We explored all over and you get different views from each place.
Simon R — Google review
If you love to hike and like some really stunning views of the ocean, coastline, the town and the islands you're in for a treat. On a bright and breezy day it could be even more rewarding. Do not miss.
Anna D — Google review
Today was supposed to be a relax day… ha! Instead, we hiked up to the fort and earned those spectacular views the hard way. Worth every step. But be sure to admire this incredible piece of history at night. I call it the castle in the sky. Hvar, you are pure magic. 💛🇭🇷
Shannon B — Google review
Beautiful view of Hvar from here. It doesn't take very long to walk up to the top to get to the Fortress. There is a prison with narrow steps and low ceilings. There are a few benches with amazing view just outside of the main entrance if you dont fancy paying to enter the fortress. We visited on a hot sunny morning just before catching the ferry back to Split and it took us just over an hour for this visit.
Ellie R — Google review
The views are the best here at this fortress. The walk up is about 10-15 minutes and can make you break a sweat but it's totally worth it. At the top you can get different angles of the bay, watch all the cruises and yachts coming in and out and also have a drink or two at their bar on top. Highly recommended if you go to Havr you cannot miss this spot. I believe it's like €10 to go in.

Restaurant
Konoba Menego is a charming stone-walled tavern located between the main square and the fortress in Hvar. The cozy atmosphere, with candlelit tables and prosciutto hanging from the ceiling, sets the scene for a delightful dining experience. Guests can indulge in locally produced Dalmatian specialties like goat cheese, octopus salad, olives, wild boar, and traditional beef stew.
My wife and I had dinner here and it was amazing. We were greeted with the most friendly staff who were so attentive, we felt right at home. The restaurant is so beautiful and rustic, you'll spend some time admiring the items on the walls. Food......delicious!!!! Highly recommend coming here, the pricing was really great as well compared to most of the other places. The Boar is 👌. Highly recommended.
Chin P — Google review
Last dinner in Hvar. We saw this place on Somebody feed Phil. Had fresh Octopus Salad, for main we split Chef’s Special (green bell pepper stuffed with seasoned ground beef) and Croatian pasta side and small shrimp gnocchi. We had 0.5L local white wine with dinner. It was amazing. The service was amazing. Loved the whole meal.❤️❤️
Robert R — Google review
This restaurant is so authentic that they don't even sell Coca-Cola here! We absolutely loved our visit at Konoba Menego. Each dish was lovely. If we had to choose a favourite, it would be the fisherman's plate, which was filled with the freshest seafood we have ever tasted!
Elene O — Google review
Excellent Croatian dishes, great service, cozy setting - definitely worth the wait (and you can have a glass of of wine while you wait in the stairs outside). We had the boar, a dude salad and the vegetarian stuffed pepper dish. All delicious! I only wish we’d had room to try the dessert assortment of cakes.
Samantha J — Google review
We had an amazing dinner here and can’t recommend it enough if you’re in Hvar and want to try some Dlamatian food. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I’ve never had such pillowy gnocchi and the octopus salad was great. A great date spot. It is cash only, so be sure to have some euros on you.
Aidan S — Google review
What got us in was the sign at the door with "no pizza, no Rice, no spaghetti, no coca-cola". The owner came ro the table and confided that he felt the country was loosing it's gastronomic personality and we agreed. This place however was an absolute gem! Awesome food and very friendly staff. Price for 2 people with 2 entrees, 2 mains, 1 desert and 1 water: 89€
Manuel C — Google review
The food at Menego was relatively average overall; it's one of the less memorable meals we had during our two weeks in Croatia. The ambience was nice, but I'd skip this if we returned.
Louise W — Google review
Ate here on the last night they were open before closing for the season so they had a more limited menu available, but the food and wine were all good and worth the walk up the steps. It’s a small family run restaurant and all staff were really lovely to talk to. Note that it’s cash only, so make sure you go to the ATM before you walk up there 🙂

Serviced accommodation
The Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel is a luxury hotel located on the town's seaside promenade. It offers 62 airy rooms with panoramic views of the boardwalk and the marina. The spa facilities spread across six indoor and outdoor levels, with attentive service designed to exceed your expectations.
Great location. The staff is very accommodating and the rooms are very nice. I’d recommend booking here. If you take the ferry to Hvar town, the hotel has bag service concierge waiting at the ferry that will take your bags to the hotel upon your arrival. They really do a great job to ensure the best overall experience. Probably the best sauna I have ever seen. The breakfast is really good.

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The rooms were gorgeous, so spacious & very clean. The ambience of the hotel itself is incredible - beautiful spaces to hang out. There is a rooftop bar with pool, restaurant & bar with an amazing view of the city. The waterfront area for breakfast each morning was such a treat. The spa that is included is fabulous. The staff is so kind and helpful and treat you like you are VIP. Ivan, Carla, Nina, & Nicola made our stay so much more enjoyable. Great location as well. We wished we had more than 3 days here!
Nicole Z — Google review
Our stay at Adriana was incredible! Great location and fantastic service - they offer bag assistance to and from the ferry. Check-in was a pleasure, very smooth and were able to give us early access to room. Nikolaus & Antonio were so helpful & sweet, they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was stress-free & that we were well taken care of. The included breakfast was delicious and the views from the room did not disappoint! Would stay here again and again.
Kaitlin D — Google review
We had an amazing stay at Adriana Hvar hotel for our honeymoon. They provided top notch customer service and helped us immensely when we left something valuable in our room right as we were boarding our ferry. We definitely recommend. Also be sure to have small bills to tip the guys who help with the ferry and luggage. Also, the view of the water from our room was great!
Paige S — Google review
Excellent! Location is fantastic, rooms ate specious and clean, facilities are great. What matters most is the friendly and hardworking service at any point of the hotel. I cannot recommend more. Yes there is no direct access to a beach, but you want to explore a different beach / island everyday anyway.
Toygan Y — Google review
just went in today for dinner. Didn’t even stay there as hotel guests, no problem. Seating very smooth, even got a complimentary Prosecco. We’ve got the asparagus for starters, pasta & the tuna steak. Finished it off with a tasty tiramisu. Very good, really liked it! Service was excellent. Waiter was very knowledgeable and classy. Definitely worth the money, even though it’s wasn’t even too pricey. Ended up paying 73 Euro for a starter, two main & dessert. In addition with service and location right at the marina front definitely worth it!
Marc K — Google review
Adriana was the perfect stay on our Croatian journey in Hvar. The service was outstanding and the showers were the best I have ever had. Everything was walking distance and the included breakfast topped it all off. Thank you for your hospitality!!
Shannon B — Google review
Beautiful hotel, hindered by the lazy staff. Being lazy won't stop the staff from consistently asking for tips, however. On top of that, the pool is ice cold at 20 degrees. For our October visit, the sea was warmer to swim in, so skip this hotel if the pool sold you. The breakfast was also lackluster, reminding me of cheap roadside hotels in Germany, with a fancy veneer.

Black Pepper Restaurant is a chic and contemporary dining spot nestled in Hvar Town, offering a fresh take on traditional Croatian fare. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes like duck breast with orange sauce, seafood risotto, and beef fillet with foie gras. Emphasizing the use of locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant exudes sophistication with its modern interior design.
Great local food, made in a creative way which makes it even more tasteful. The ingredients were fresh, and every dish was beautifully presented. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience authentic local cuisine with a modern twist!

10/10 experience here, the service was the best we had in our 2 week trip in Europe, he continuously refilled our glasses with the bottle we ordered and gave us recommendations and was overall such a delight. We got the beef tartare and haven’t stopped talking about it since, we also enjoyed the tuna (GET IT RARE !!) and the beef pasta and both were SO good. I’d love to relive this meal. Make a reservation!
Emma B — Google review
The food was the best meal we had our entire trip in Croatia! The staff was extremely friendly and attentive and sitting outside in the street was something out of a dream! The lavender tiramisu was a highlight!
Emily K — Google review
This came highly recommended online as somewhere that was a “must visit” in Hvar. We had the sea bass which was incredible. I’ve never had such a tasty prawn before (lol!). The veal was a little tough and fatty which my partner was disappointed in and would order something else next time. We had a lovely time and had excellent service despite this.
George N — Google review
Great experience. Went there three times for a vegan dinner. Food was excellent, staff super nice and attentive and the atmosphere is just great. For me as vegan Black Pepper was one of the best choices. Thank you very much guys 🥳🙌🏼
Simon V — Google review
Everything about this restaurant was absolutely fantastic. The food was exquisite, delicious and creative. The atmosphere and the views were incredible but most importantly the manager Iuri/Iura created the most amazing atmosphere. His service was incredible and we had such a lovely chat with him, he gave us so much time despite being busy. Thanks so much, Aysha and Tom (from a few weeks ago)
Aysha B — Google review
Everything was very good here. Upscale restaurant, with the chef apparently being a MasterChef winner. Cocktails were very tasty. We started with a tomato + burrata cream appetizer ("Summer Affair") which was excellent and arguably better than the mains - should have simply ordered (x4) of these and called it a great night out! 😂 For mains, we ordered the Octopus and Gregada. Both were very good. I'd say the Gregada could have had a bit more food on the plate, but otherwise very tasty. The Octopus was delicious as well and I would highly recommend it. Finished with a fabulous Lavender Tiramisu for dessert! Overall, great experience. Staff were very good. As mentioned, it's an upscale restaurant so prices are even more elevated than the rest of Hvar Town but worth it for the experience.
Jakub S — Google review
We need to start of why we chose this restaurant, we passed this with our maxi-cosi with our 2 month old baby. Hvar is not build for this so we had trouble finding a way down without to many stairs. The staff of this restaurant wanted to help us down, even without us having any intention to eat here. This shows that they have hospitality build in their soul and it is not just their job. Few days later we came back for dessert after a not so good experience at another restaurant. The dessert was WAUW, my wife couldn't stop saying how good it was. So we decided to come back the day after for the whole experience. And it was fantastic! Our host was helpful as always. We took a 3 course meal, both my wife and me took different things so we could taste from each other. Not only the service, but also the food was perfect.

Nestled at the base of the main pier, Restaurant Park Hvar is a beloved spot that enchants visitors with its charming outdoor seating surrounded by vibrant flower gardens and fragrant jasmines. As night falls, twinkling fairy lights create a magical atmosphere perfect for enjoying their diverse breakfast menu. Guests can indulge in an array of options from cooked dishes to local specialties, all while savoring freshly brewed coffee at reasonable prices.
Had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing evening. The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home. The food was the real star—fresh ingredients, great flavors, and beautiful presentation. Every dish was delicious, especially the main course which was cooked to perfection. Even the dessert was a treat! Definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend and will be coming back for sure!
Jakov T — Google review
Lovely location, nice menu. Steak was good but left to rest too long as arrived nearly cold. Vegetables were too hard, cauliflower especially! Crispy john dory was disappointing as it felt like it had just been taken from the freezer, not fresh fish. Cold mint, cucumber soup was gorgeous- so refreshing! Tempura prawns were epic!! Cocktails were lovely too.
Carron K — Google review
We had a wonderful dinner and an after dinner drink (complimentary!) at the Restaurant Park. My family and I literally stumbled upon it on our way down from our Airbnb to the main plaza. Everyone loved their dishes and drinks - from the flavored olive oils to the fish, meat and pasta. The rolled chicken is amazing. Miki took great care of us and we will be back!!
Bryan L — Google review
Had dinner. Made pre reservation. Got seated on time. Good views of the main Hvar town square from the terrace overlooking the bay in the distance. Ordered veg rissotto tofu pasta. Tasty. Tofu was delicious with such flavors. Very tasty olive oil with truffle and spicy flavors. Had glass of red wine. Good service. Recommended.
Rajen P — Google review
So we had a dinner for two. The restaurant is located in the center of the Hvar town with a view to the main square and the harbour. Although the woman that was standing at the entrance to get you in was not so friendly, the rest of the evening at the Park restaurant was fabulous:)) Service excellent; food, meat and ingredients fresh and qualitative, and the atmosphere just perfect. I had a beafsteak which was soft as a butter and my guy had lamb chops. For dessert we ordered snickers cake and glutenfree choco cake. If you like a bit stronger wine I would def. suggest to go with Tomic Plavac barrique. Buon apetit!:)

Miro was absolutely amazing, this was our second dinner here and I can’t recommend it enough!!!! The food was amazing, the views just beautiful, and the red wine YUM. But more than anything, for an island filled with tourists this was absolutely the best experience and service we had. Miro we’re coming back just because of you, the friendliest service ever!!!!!!

Our server Miki was amazing. He made our experience very enjoyable, great service! We would come back just for him. The food, wine recommendations, and dessert were delicious. From your friendly Canadians.

Had a great experience at Restaurant Park. The atmosphere is quite lovely and cozy. You can hear the live music from their bar downstairs which adds a lot to their vibe. The food was delicious and fresh. We tried the fish platter for two which was delicious and filling. I particularly liked the sea bass and the grilled calamari on this plate. We also tried their truffle beefsteak which was quite good- tasty, good meat, nicely cooked. The highlight of the visit though must have been our waiter, Ognjen. He did a truly outstanding job. He was friendly, kind, and great with his recommendations. He worked close with his colleagues from the bar to find us a wine to our tasting. Truly outstanding service. The hostess at the front also met us with a friendly attitude.

What a wonderful experience. The ambience, food and service was excellent! The complimentary drink on arrival set the scene. Navis was our lovely waitress for the evening. She was exceptional. Would highly recommend the food, wine selection with a view and atmosphere that compliments the Hvar experience.

I will rave about this dining experience for the remainder of my trip. Excellent food, but by far the best overall experience from start to finish because the service is above and beyond. As mentioned in other reviews, we were greeted with a glass of champagne and fresh bread and a tomato. Would HIGHLY recommend getting a reservation, but we were lucky enough that they happened to have a spot open that we were able to sit at. Our waiter (didn’t catch his name but had studied in Martha’s Vineyard for a time and knew his wine very well) was kind, charming, and had excellent recommendations and service throughout the meal. I would recommend this place to everyone, for any meal. Incredible food, service, and views.

We had a wonderful dinner and drinks here. Firstly, the service was amazing and the staff treated you as if you were fine dining. We were served by Marti who was exceptional. The food was delicious, a great range of options from local produce. The drinks list is great and a gorgeous view of the marina. Everything was extremely well priced for the quality you got. We loved it here, we would return if we were not leaving hvar tomorrow.

Our final dinner at Val Marina was the highlight of our trip and made it truly unforgettable. The ocean view from the restaurant was breathtaking, the food was both beautifully presented and delicious, and the service was attentive and warm. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

My wife and I cam here on our honeymoon and loved it. The food was delicious, our server, Vlad, should have been the best man at our wedding. He was the friendliest person and was very quick to serve & give recommendations. The restaurant is situated looking over the harbor and the staff greets you with a “welcome” prosecco. 10/10 no notes.

We stumbled across this restaurant and the ambiance and decor is beautiful. The restaurant is right off the water so you get the best view! We started our meal with a complimentary glass of Prosecco, and house made bread, tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic. I ordered the scallop pasta and it was incredible!!! The pistachio soufflé was moist and warm and it came with peanut butter ice cream, that was my favorite! Nives and Zoran were both so kind and attentive. Best meal and service ever!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. At Valmarina in Var we were welcomed with a glass of champagne, a classy start to a perfect evening. MUST on Hvar. Amazing food and wine. More than another bar, because of the crew who runs it: attentive waiters, chef Elena who has a perfect taste in food and of course charming owner✨✨✨ P.S. Even if you’re tight on time — don’t miss the chance!

Amazing fresh and tasty food. Our cruise stopped in Hvar for the night so we explored the small streets for some dinner. We found this great little tapas bar in a small little street, super cool location with great wine selection. Meals were designed to be shared, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The staff were really friendly and helpful. If you’re in Hvar for the night, this is a fantastic place for dinner. Highly recommended.

Another favourite! Lovely atmosphere when seated in the ally. It's so cosy and it's so pretty in Hvar. The food was top notch. We had the pumpkin ravioli as a main which was excellent, but should only have ordered 1 instead of 2 for 2 people to share. We thought it was a smaller portion and it’s quite heavy, so 1 would have been enough, since we also had some starter tapas. The tuna pate was the star of the tapas, but the local cheese was also excellent. The staff was attentive and funny. Would absolutely recommend and go back!

We had a fantastic experience at Gurme Restaurant. The owner was absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Friendliest service EVER! Owner even gave us glasses and cherries to finish the wine bottle by the docks (RO-MAN-TIC!) Perfect ambience, not noisy, amazing tapas, wonderful wine, super fast and friendly service, it all led to a perfect experience. And the owner, Zoki, just the best. He made us laugh, made us comfortable, made us save money in choosing the right wine and trying the best food. I asked him if we could get a bottle but take it with some glasses to drink at the docs (Before Sunrise style!) and he even gave us a bag with cherries and ice as well, and drank a couple of sweet wine shots with us before we left. Passarola Restaurant offers a romantic and stylish atmosphere, making it perfect for a special evening with loved ones. The menu features delightful dishes such as cheesecake, truffles, pasta, and an impressive selection of wines. It is conveniently located and very vegetarian-friendly. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing ingredients from local farmers to create exquisite haute-cuisine dishes like tuna sashimi, beetroot tartare, lobster tagliatelle, and John Dory file.
Our experience at Passarola restaurant was wonderful. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the dishes were tasty and nicely presented. We greatly appreciate sommelier Sabina, who professionally recommended excellent wines. Her expertise significantly contributed to our enjoyable evening. Thank you, Sabina, and the entire Passarola team. We look forward to returning. Best regards, The Sailing Team from Slovakia

Beautiful multilevel restaurant with excellent service. The waiter we had was very kind and attentive without being pushy or overbearing. Excellent food. Blown away by the quality of the pasta 10/10!

Located in Hvar’s Old Town, Passarola offers a refined yet welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a memorable dining experience. The menu features creative Mediterranean and Croatian dishes, such as lobster with black macaroni and octopus ‘under the bell’. The wine list is extensive, showcasing both local and international selections. Service is attentive, and the ambiance, especially on the terrace, is exceptional. A must-visit for those seeking quality cuisine in a charming setting.

We had two nights on Hvar. We found this place by chance and had an awesome sushi night! The service and food was amazing! The next night we wanted to try another roof top restaurant. We sat down and no one came to our table for 15 minutes. We got up and went back to Passarola and had an amazing steak night. Tony and Bruno are the best waiters anywhere. I couldn’t recommend this place more! Enjoy! 🤙😎

A lovely restaurant in Hvar old town offering outstanding ambiance, food and service. The rooftop terrace is beautiful and airy. Very high quality. We both had the pasticada , a local braised sweet and sour beef and gnocchi dish that had been recommended . We coupled this with a bottle of the local Bartul Plavac Barrique, which was very nice. Highly recommended. *** Edit *** I just read some other reviews mentioning poor service. We saw no evidence of this during our visit. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, and it looked to be a similar experience at the other tables.

This was the most amazing dining experience we had during our 5 day visit to Hvar. This restaurant is absolutely beautifull! Al fresco dining at its best. After we were seated we were greeted within a minute by our server Bruno. I cannot say enough about the level of service he provided. He made excellent recommendations for all courses and Bruno is also a certified sommelier! He knew everything about the local wines and took the time to tell us about what made each one special. It made the evening so special. The atmosphere is lovely - great music, soft lighting, expertly prepared food, with 5 star service, and very reasonably priced. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant.

Passarola was a highlight of our time in Hvar! The food was absolutely outstanding—we enjoyed everything from their fresh and delicious sushi to a decadent truffle dish, a perfectly cooked burger, and incredible steaks. Every plate was prepared with care and full of flavor. What made the evening even more memorable was the exceptional service. Their sommelier, Sabina, was phenomenal—she took the time to understand our tastes and personalized the wine selection for our meal beautifully. She also went above and beyond by recommending other incredible wineries in the area for us to try during our trip. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the top-notch hospitality, Passarola is a must-visit in Hvar!

Day 2

Off the beaten path
For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Fortress of Petar Hektorović. Not quite as popular as Stari Grad, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

The Fortress of Petar Hektorović, located in Stari Grad, is a fortified Renaissance-era building that served as the summer home of the renowned Croatian poet. This magnificent castle was built throughout his lifetime and holds great historical and cultural significance. Visitors can explore the intricate architecture, gardens filled with herbs, a fish pond, and a dovecote within its walls.
Great place to visit! Everything is clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there were no issues at all. Highly recommended! Place is completely safe without engineers and doctors. ♥️

Very little to see for the €5 per person entry fee. Not really worth the effort. The “pond” with the fish, plus the olive and grape press are nice -but things you can see elsewhere. I thought we would be able to get inside the fortress, but unfortunately no. There certainly is a lot more that could be offered to visitors in order to justify the cost and effort to get to Stari Grad to see this.
Melissa S — Google review
It is very nice, but max 20-30 min is enough to see everything. Actually you can go only into the garden. But that is nice. I recommend it. Dogs can also go in.

I could see myself in this very place few centuries ago. 😍 Beautiful place, full of plants, birds and fish. Relaxing, as the summer villa should be.

5€ per person is CRAZY! There is nothing to see if not the pool with fishes and the garden. Nice but not at this price! Plus it is cash only!!!!

If you actually care about the history, and read the pamphlet, even ask the person (who’s really knowledgeable) on the entrance something, you can learn a lot. My favourite part was the “toilette” with the great text above it.

Antika is a traditional restaurant in Stari Grad known for its focus on seafood dishes and great value. The dining spaces are particularly noteworthy, offering a choice between an ancient townhouse built in 1566, tables along a cobblestone alleyway, or a secret upstairs terrace. The restaurant embodies a blend of traditional and laid-back modern vibes, with eclectic furniture, candlelit ambiance, and historic decor.
Absolutely the best lamb I had this year so far, by far. For those who love lamb and for those who don’t Antika is a place in Stari Grand you will never forget. Team is amazing, food and drinks are fantastic, location is absolutely brilliant. We only regret one thing, that we are not able to visit again since we are leaving soon Hvar but in 2026 it’s on our list to be there more than once. Warmly recommended to try.

A very interesting spot in the old town. You can feel that the dishes are inspired by local flavors but elevated with creative twists. There’s a play of textures and more complex flavors that make the food exciting. A great restaurant for those who want to try something surprising. On top of that, the presentation is beautiful – you can eat with your eyes first. The veal simply melted in the mouth. Out of everything we ordered, only the tuna steak didn’t really appeal to us – it felt like the weakest option. The rest was excellent. The highlight was definitely the Kotlenka – absolutely outstanding. Also worth mentioning were the braised octopus and the risotto, both full of flavor. The place itself is pleasant, with friendly service. Overall – if you’re looking for local flavors with an unexpected twist, this restaurant is well worth a visit.

Gorgeous restaurant with tables down multiple alleys. Service was great, and the food was delicious! Huge portions for decent value. Would highly recommend the black risotto and the beef cheeks

Perfect lunch experience with our best Tuna Tartare on the island. Very good black risotto and Truffle pasta too. Wonderful location upstairs and impeccable service.

This little restaurant is such a hidden gem! ✨ Tucked away on a narrow street of the island, it feels incredibly cozy and authentic. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed evening. Their homemade focaccia is absolutely delicious — warm, soft, and full of flavor. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a true local experience!
Irina M — Google review
Our experience with the restaurant was somewhat disappointing, although all together not bad. We got tuna tartar, seabass and black risotto. Tuna tartar was great, every flavour was well-thought and they complimented one another fantastically. Black risotto was very interesting and flavourful. However, as it sometimes happens with risotto, after a few bites it was a little overwhelming and too heavy because of the buttery flavour. We splitted the portion in half so it wasn't an issue, it would make a really good starter in a smaller portion tho. The most disappointing dish was the seabass. Green beans served with it were way too salty, as was half of the burreu sauce. As for the seabass it was okay, however the burnt skin made it hard to enjoy due to difficulty in seperating the meat from the skin which had a charcoal aroma to it. Additionally, the tempura topping was unnecessary and weirdly excluded from the whole dish, it didn't pair well with anything (although it was tasty on its own). The mussels base in the sauce was hardly noticeable (maybe because of the saltiness). The staff went out of their way to divide our starter in two (because we were sharing one portion) which I think was very thoughtful. However, our overall experience was mid. We didn't feel much cared for after the first dish was served. I think it would be nice to be served water (as the glasses were already prepared on the table for no reason) and coasters/napkins for the drinks.
Marcelina C — Google review
We met the owner of the restaurant while we were having breakfast down the street. We weren’t able to eat at the restaurant but the owner shared some of the grapes that had just been harvested for his winemaker and these were THE BEST grapes I’ve ever had. Which I can only imagine what the wine is like! Check this place out if you have time :)

Antika- A Hidden Gem in Stari Grad Last night i went in restaurant Antika in Stari Grad with a group of friends and we ordered several starters to share – tuna tartare, beef tartare, marinated anchovies, and burrata with all the right pairings – everything was excellent, beautifully prepared and full of flavor. But two dishes truly stood out: the “Kotlenka” with monkfish, a masterpiece of rich and perfectly balanced flavors, and the lamb, which my friend ordered – tender, juicy, aromatic, and simply unforgettable. Words cannot do it justice. The ambiance is charming, the staff warm and professional, and the whole experience on par with the best restaurants. Antika is a place we will definitely return to. 👌

Pokonji Dol Beach is a dreamy spot just a 25-minute stroll from Hvar town. It offers natural beauty and tranquility, making it a favorite gathering place for both locals and tourists. The idyllic bay, surrounded by teal waters, provides the perfect setting for relaxation. With sun loungers, palm trees, and refreshing drinks available, visitors can enjoy a leisurely day on the largest pebble beach on the island of Hvar.
That’s beautiful beach , close to the town , there are 2 ways from city to walk there or from the hill , Very beautiful clear , clean pebble beach 🏖️ early morning until 9 am beach still peaceful after that a lot of ppl there , so if you lucky you can get some spot for sun baht .
Manita B — Google review
When we visited, most places nearby were still closed—which actually made the experience better. The beach was quiet, peaceful, and far less crowded than usual. We were among just a few people there, which made it feel like a hidden gem. The water was clear and clean, perfect for a swim. Just a heads-up—it’s a pebble beach, so beach shoes or sandals definitely help. Easily one of the better beaches in Hvar.
Prateek Z — Google review
We didn’t even try to go to the beach, it was clear from afar that it was crowded. But there were some sunbeds on the rocks that you could rent for €40 for the whole day (two sunbeds and an umbrella). I highly recommend it. The water was very clean, and there were stairs nearby to get down and swim. There were also spots where you could jump into the water from a height. On top of that, the guy in charge of the sunbeds was very friendly to us. If you come to this beach, I recommend staying in the sunbed area. It’s worth paying for. The place is beautiful.
Marta A — Google review
The beach itself is beautiful, with very clear water and no visible dirt. Just keep in mind that it’s all pebbles, so a thick base under your towel and an umbrella are a must, as there’s no natural shade. The downside is the rental prices – €20 for a sunbed and €10 for an umbrella is pretty unreasonable, especially since rentals only start from 10:00. For those who prefer to come early in the morning (like 7:00–12:00), paying €50 for just a couple of hours feels insane. Another minus is that the umbrellas don’t include a small table or hooks for clothes. I would still recommend the beach, but definitely bring your own gear for comfort and health.
Yanina V — Google review
Nice beach to swim and to enjoy the sun. The bedsuns have to be paid by cash. The restaurant has an ATM with 5.8% commission..

The cala is the bluest water I’ve seen. Not do crowded. It has a bathroom for 1 euro and a nearby restaurant. It has a short hike down on a rocky road. We loved it!
John P — Google review
A beautiful natural cove beach excellent for swimming! We brought our own goggles so we could lap the designated swim area. You could snorkel but there isn’t much to see, watch out for sea urchins! There is a bar and restaurant available but seemed very overpriced. Instead we stopped at some markets in town and brought our own food and drinks. You are able to drive or taxi from the town, taxi men wait at the lot to take you back. But we just walked the short but steep path down from the town. Went on a Friday afternoon and yes it was crowded in the main beach area, but there are places in the trees on the west side that had more space and provided sun protection. Could have spent the whole day here! Was a wonderful time, hope to return one day.

Napoleon Fortress, located in the village of Zastraz sce on Hvar Island, offers a stunning panoramic view of Hvar town and the Pakleni Islands. The ancient Illyrian fort atop Vela Glava hill served as a defender against invaders. Visitors can reach the fortress via a well-marked trail or by car, although the narrow and twisty road requires caution.
Amazing view over Hvar and the surrounding area. You can get there by car, but the road is narrow so you need to drive carefully

Incredible view! About 30 min trek through some pretty rocky paths but they are marked out. Alternative is take the road. I ran up the hiking track and came down the road way. Well worth it. Go early I went at 7am and there was just me and the grounds keeper 😁

Perfect for a good hike!! The views are incredible, you can see the coastline with a few islands as well. Not much amenities available on top, so need to come prepared. Do the hike instead of coming by road!
Aishwarya R — Google review
Went there 20 minutes before sundown with a taxi. You can also hike up. Absolutely beautiful 🤩 Better than the Fortica Fortress because you see all the islands around Hvar. Only two benches so it’s good to bring a towel to sit down on. The fort is closed so nothing to see apart from the amazing view. Not busy at all.

If you don’t mind a 20 minute hike that’s entirely uphill it’s stunning. I did it in flip flops but would recommend sneakers. Great view of Hvar. Didn’t actually go in the castle (not even sure you can), it’s more for the view.

Pokonji dol is a charming beach located about 2km east of Hvar Town. It offers a serene and quiet atmosphere away from the bustling main beaches, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. The beach features some rare sandy areas and provides opportunities for swimming. Additionally, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the sea while dining at Pokonji Dol Restaurant, which is conveniently situated on the beachfront.
The best service ever. One of us said that they had the best sea bass here ever! Chill atmosphere, good music, great food and service at wonderful beach ⛱️☀️ Enjoy!

Lovely spot right on the beach. Sadly I think we ordered wrong - 19 euros for the fish and chips. Looks like we ordered from the kids menu! I’m sure they have great history and looking around at other plates like the mussels and seafood pasta, I would give another chance. But do not get the fish and chips.
Kimbo B — Google review
Everything was poor. The service was poor. The pricing was extortionate. The “fish and chips” was what seemed to be a defrosted breaded fillet tasting of oil and it cost €19. The ragu spaghetti was terrible as well. Would not recommend, walk past this to the next restaurant which looked much better
George W — Google review
A great place ! Spot with great potential, food was OK and prices 👌
Dario M — Google review
Where to begin? Their “natural juices” are bottled juices. We ordered a natural orange juice and it came in a bottle. I told the waiter we thought the juices were freshly squeezed and he offered to bring different ones. Then we ordered a bruschetta and a burger with fries. It might have been the worst burger I’ve ever eaten. Even McDonald’s makes better burgers. This was clearly a frozen burger that tasted awful. The fries tasted of old oil. The bruschetta was ok. 19€ for the burger and fries! We paid €44 for these two plates and the two “natural” juices.
Madalena F — Google review
Very good food but small portions flans quite expensive. Anyway that’s what you can expect for a place in front of the beach. The service was really good and fast, however we were one of the firsts customers of the day. We both ordered fish plates and a homemade bread, we paid €53. Cocktails are €10 each. They have toilets for customers and that’s maybe the only toilet in the beach.
Priscila V — Google review
On Monday 11th August, my friends and I visited this restaurant for some food and drinks. At first, we were seated at a table that was dirty and had not been cleaned properly since previous customers. When we were seated, we were not given menus and after 20 minutes of waiting, my friend had to get up and get the menus herself. When the waiter eventually came to take our order, he had a look of disgust when my friend placed her order. He made the same face again when my other friend ordered. Our drinks took over half an hour to come while people who were seated after us had already been served their food. After waiting for over an hour for our food, we asked the waiter how much longer it would be as we could see people had come and gone in the space of time we had been there. We were told we ordered 4 times as much food as other people, which as you can see from the receipt is definitely not true, it is also insulting for him to make a comment like this to 4 young girls. He then told us the food would be 20 seconds, he ran into the kitchen and immediately brought us our food. He brought out 3 plates, one of which the food was freezing and had to be sent back. Another friend, who had also ordered the bruschetta, was left waiting a further 10 minutes for her food to come, which in the mean time the rest of us had finished our food. After we finished our food and wasted the majority of the afternoon, we asked the lady who was working for the bill as she was providing a much quicker service to her tables. She asked if we wanted to pay by cash or card, which we answered card. We then waited a further 10 minutes with no sign of payment. May I also add the table had not been cleared at this point either. We stood up and showed that we were fed up of waiting and we asked the lady for the bill again, as there was no sign of our waiter, to which we were told she cannot take our payment and we would have to wait yet again for our initial waiter. She did proceed to call him over, and he took a further 5 minutes to produce the bill. We were standing at the entrance of the restaurant at this stage because we had now been there for 1 hour and 40 minutes. We also witnessed our waiter cleaning another table and setting it, which during the process he picked up a plant, threw it on the dirty ground and then placed it back on the table, this is extremely unprofessional and unhygienic. As you can tell, this was not a pleasant dining experience and we were very disappointed by how your staff treated us. It really let down the name of your restaurant and we would definitely not be recommending it to anyone. Even when we made him aware that we were not happy, he was extremely hostile and unapologetic.

‘Pokonji Dol Restaurant‘ on the beach by the same name (also next door to Mustačo) is a VERY surprising find! Easy walk from Hvar town along the shoreline or through the neighborhood of Križna Luka to a path that literally drops you at the doorstep of this restaurant. Either route is easy walking and very beautiful. (If you chose to drive, there is free public parking right before the building and its beach. Also taxis and water boat taxis do service this area). But the real ‘beauty’ is once you get to this restaurant and the beach it sits on. The building is unassuming. You may not even realize it’s an open restaurant. There is no signage on the building and no advertising along either route. But do look beyond its quiet facade and enter the shady patio where tables are spaced comfortably apart - plus they offer hand sanitizer at the entrance - and most tables are in the shade to cool off after your time in the sun. If you do want sunshine, the row along the road face the beach and the sun. The views from any of these tables are stunning. The beach, the cove, small boats going in and out and straight out to the lovely little rock of an island with a lighthouse! I asked it’s history. Its owner was easy to talk to. The restaurant is longtime family owned. This couple that operate it have been doing so since 1982. Let that sink in. 1982!! 38 years. And before that was their parents. Love a true family owned business. This shows they put their blood, sweat, tears AND years into making a business work. They are the cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers and busboys. They ARE the restaurant! The food is incredible. We are vegetarians and they had no issues adjusting the menu to fit our needs. We had a mixed salad, bruschetta, and pasta with grilled seasonal veggies. Usually the pasta came with a red meat sauce or seafood. We asked if we could have a veggie pasta and wow, they made us grilled vegetables with olive oil (from their own olive trees on their property!!) and roasted garlic tossed into the pasta and it was incredible. Also I enjoyed a nice iced espresso and of course, my hubby had a local pivo. Prices were very fair. Less than in town. We paid by cash. Service was extremely friendly, always with a big smile, prompt and they made us feel very welcome. She speaks very good English which was helpful and nice. The menu is also translated into a few languages. We enjoyed our lunch and our day on the beach a couple days ago so much that even though the weather today was not ‘beach friendly’, we decided to take a walk once again from Hvar Town out to Pokonji Dol Restaurant. We had no idea with it being a Sunday and not great weather if they would be open but yes. They were there! Greeted us like old friends and we once again enjoyed the hospitality along with the food & drinks. Be sure to add this stop to your itinerary when on the island of Hvar. You will not be disappointed. And enjoy the walk. You get to eat more food if you walk it off!! Just sayin’!

Alviž is a casual dining spot in Hvar known for serving the best pizza on the island. Despite its location away from the harbor, it compensates with high-quality dishes. The restaurant offers fantastic local cuisine at fair prices, including whole grilled fish, pasticada, cevapi, and peka (advanced reservation required). It features a partially open-air garden terrace with a view of the wood-burning grill. Visitors praise the warm hospitality of the owner and his family.
Great little spot, priced well for the delicious food they deliver. They have a cute terrace out back with plenty of seating and a nice cool breeze that was hitting us. Also in the back terrace is a nice outdoor grill which I thought smelled great! We noticed they had fresh herbs growing adjacent to our table, which no doubt they use in the food they prepare. The waiting staff were kind - just wished we ordered more food!

We were greeted very warmly and sat promptly with no reservation. Our pizzas came out in 5 min (not cut though just fyi) and were delicious. Another customer had a birthday and they turned off the lights and the whole restaurant sang them happy birthday. A must to visit in Hvar.

Run don’t walk!! Incredible food. The truffle pasta and Bolognese were life changing. We didn’t get pizza, but they looked outstanding. The owner came over to check on us and elevated our experience even further. His whole family works hard to make this magic happen. Make sure you try his homemade bourbon amaretto. It was the icing on the cake! Thank you for making our trip so memorable.

Carpe Diem Bar in Hvar Town is a lively waterfront spot that offers cocktails, snacks, and evening parties in an open-air space. Hvar Town itself is a beautiful destination on the Adriatic coast known for its clear waters and charming architecture. The town's nightlife scene is vibrant and draws visitors from all over the world.
Only popped in for a coffee while waiting for the ferry, very nice and comfortable place, nice staff and lovely coffee ☕

Carpe Diem Bar in Hvar offers a vibrant and stylish atmosphere that perfectly captures the island’s summer spirit. I was especially impressed by their non-alcoholic cocktails – absolutely top-notch! Each drink was refreshing, well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy the experience without alcohol. The service was friendly and attentive, and the setting – right by the sea – adds an extra charm to the whole vibe…

I went to Carpe Diem (Beach Club) and this bar in town and let me tell you, this bar worth more your while. It has a DJ, nice drinks (although a bit pricey), nice atmosphere. Cool place to visit with friends and couple.

To be honest, we were hyped to come to this place because of the pictures/videos and didn t take serious the bad reviews about service and prices. Then we get here, the waiter literally reply so rude when I asked him the main ingredient of Carpe Diem Martini, answering so rude “i really have no idea, believe, I don’t know, you can look there.” Then we got this amaretto sour… what a drink 🫠 no foam, tastes as grafruit juice with a splash of Disaronno, full of crash ice 😂 Just mind your business about this place

One of the cutest bars in hvar. The service was professional and the drinks were really nice. The only reason that i’ve put 4 stars is that the prices are so high and the difference between price and quality is very big

This place is expensive - yes. But you’ll pay the same prices for a bar in London, LA, New York, Berlin, Oslo, Stockholm etc The difference with this place is you’ll be on a beautiful little island with the best staff, the best drinks, the best food. I went yesterday with my wife and we stayed until the end, even though we didn’t plan to. The staff couldn’t have been cooler. Absolutely brilliant people and they looked after us so well. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you go there knowing the prices and then complain, then you’re the problem. Thank you so much to everyone for making it a day and night to remember forever. Next year we’re having another wedding party nearby and we’re definitely going to Carpe Diem for the pre wedding meet and greet. Amazing place x

Great cocktails, we went for happy hour 2 for 1 cocktails, while waiting for our ferry, the view was amazing and the service was great.

The place was nice but we got the unfortunate luck to cross paths with the waiter KARLO. He treated us extremely rude ! He refused to serve us even though the very nice host said it was for us to ask the waiter for drinks . He also showed extreme xenophobia when he mocked us speaking I don’t if it was xenophobia or extreme immaturity ! He also thought it was ok to leave trash from another table on ours.He ruined the experience for me and my friends which is sad because we just got to town and this was the first experience we had to deal with … It’s shocking to me that such a nice place accepts this kind of behaviour from there staff. KARLO thanks for ruining our carpe diem experience !

Cruise ship visitors will find the stunning Hora Hvar restaurant an excellent spot to indulge in a wine tasting or traditional dish. The organic, local ingredients and self-catered style make this a unique dining experience. The welcoming staff is eager to teach about the winery and vineyard while serving delicious food.
We showed up at Hora without a reservation and were able to enjoy the wine tasting and appetizer platter. It’s such a beautiful space in nature, the wines were delicious and the staff were welcoming and friendly and you can tell they enjoy their job. If you can, try to schedule in advance to try their traditional peka, we were not able to try but it looked and smelled delicious.

All I can say: Wow!!!! It was an exceptional experience💕 During our trip to Hvar, we visited Hora Hvar farm. It’s an agricultural estate where olives, grapes, lavender, and other crops are grown. There is also an on-site restaurant that serves local dishes made from farm-grown ingredients. We took part in an olive oil and wine tasting, along with traditional local appetizers. We also had the chance to walk through the fields and learn more about the farm’s history and cultivation methods. It’s recommended to plan the visit in advance, as some activities require prior booking.

We came here for lunch and I have to say this was the best experience and food we have had in Croatia. Chris welcomed us to this beautiful vineyard and gave us an amazing table looking out to the fields. There was a lovely breeze which was needed in this weather. When we sat down they gave us the most delicious platter of home made breads that they make on site with exquisite olive oil to dip in alongside, cheese, salamis, and olives. Everything homegrown. Next we had the softest meat cooked over a fire with potatoes and a fresh salad. They also made grilled chicken and chips for the kids. This was divine. We ate everything. Next we cleaned our palate with fresh watermelons, figs and grapes. Every dish was severed with their wine they make there which was some of the best I have had since being here. After we went to the shop and treated ourselves to some wine, lavender and olive oil to take home. Please done think twice about going here, it’s truly an amazing experience and you will not be disappointed. Thank you again Chris and to everyone who made our time there so special.

If you are ever in Stari Grad, this vineyard is a must! A perfect place to relax and seek cover from the sun. We had the wine tasting experience which comes with some appetizers! The wine was very tasty and the snacks were delicious! We would have loved to have the lunch but unfortunately we didn’t book in advance! Also the service were very friendly and attentive 100% will go again!

100% recommended! Went there for my birthday and had the meat peka! The food was incredible, the wine also very nice and the atmosphere was just superb! They produce most of their products, so it's really authentic. The guys are super friendly and the vibe on the sunset between the vineyards makes it just perfect! Book in advance for the peka, it's a must!

Cash only! We booked morning of and got a table. They were so nice and chill. We arrived via taxi not tourist bus. We showed up with no cash and they drove us to the nearest ATM and gave us wine for free while half of our friends went to get cash. We were able to walk around freely. Pet the dogs. Walk through the kitchen to see what they were cooking.

My husband and I wish we could give Hora more than 5 stars! Chris, Zorian, and Fox (sorry for spelling!) attended to us with intention and skill, and made sure our bellies were full and wine glasses full. It felt like a celebration. We laughed with everyone the whole night, even through torrential downpour. The setting amongst the Stari Grad plain was like no other. The team at Hora ensures that story is told through all of their food. Every dish was fantastic, we couldn’t recommend Hora enough. Do not miss this when you visit! :)

Day 3

North side of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Dalmatino, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Franciscan Monastery. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Dalmatino is a laid-back restaurant in Hvar, Croatia, known for its inviting patio and diverse menu featuring seafood, steak, pasta, small plates, and desserts. Despite being a budget-friendly option compared to other fine dining establishments in the area, it offers friendly service and delicious cuisine that has garnered excellent reviews from many tourists. The restaurant's popularity often results in a bustling atmosphere; however, guests can enjoy drinks at the adjacent bar while waiting for their table.
The food was delicious! We had the tuna, the Mediterranean gnocchi and the white fish. The service was excellent. We interacted with many different servers and they were all personable, kind and funny. The restaurant itself is very cute on a little side street. We had a great time !

We stopped here for lunch on our maiden day in Hvar on the recommendation of our hotel concierge at Casa Benita. We had a spectacular culinary experience. Before our appetizer was presented, we were offered a refreshing aperitif of carob-infused chilled brandy. This was so refreshing given the day's temp of 34° C. Next, the chef offered gratis a fried polenta bar that was packed with flavor from multiple herbs and seasonings. For the appetizer we consumed the steak tartar with truffle slices and toasted baguette slices. This far exceeded the steak tartar we had on Split a few days earlier. For the shared main courses, we ordered the black gnocchi with shrimp in truffle sauce, octopus salad and curry risotto with shrimp. All were very delicious and the risotto was prepared to well done as requested. At the end of our meal we were again offered gratis a pine needle infused brandy to wash down our meal. We had three different servers who were most attentive to our dining needs. As for the check, the total amount was discounted 10% because we chose to pay by cash versus card. We highly recommend Dalmatino for anyone visiting Hvar and will certainly return when we come back to Croatia in a few years!

This place not only has great food and service, but they also go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome. My octopus salad portion was generous and tasty, and my husband’s curry shrimp risotto was mild with a rich seafood flavor. During our lunch, they offered us one complimentary small bite and three free drinks—which were really good—plus a 10% discount for paying in cash. Such a great experience!

This has to be one of our best meals in Croatia. The service is so great, they make you feel so welcome and the food was absolutely outstanding. Definitely coming here again while we’re in Hvar! We had the Istria Truffle Gnocchi and Octopus Carpaccio with the chocolate cake for dessert. Dalmatian food is 🤩🤩 and it was perfectly executed at Dalmatino. Highly highly recommend! Don’t skip this if you’re in Hvar!

They definitely have the best black risotto in Old Town Dubrovnik! We ordered so much and nothing disappoints! We had an octopus salad, fish of the day and pasta 💯 The staffs are accommodating as we didn’t have a booking but managed to squeeze us in. So make sure you book ahead of time especially for dinners!

I had an extraordinary dining experience at what might be the finest restaurant I’ve ever visited—a bold claim, but well-earned. The waitstaff operated like a perfectly synchronized team, anticipating every need with precision and warmth. Their knowledge was impressive, and their recommendation of a wine—now my absolute favorite— was spot-on. The truffle gnocchi stood out as exceptional, though every dish was a masterpiece. We capped the evening with espresso-martinis, and cigars, making for an unforgettable finale. This place is a true gem.

My partner and I visited this restaurant last night. I can honestly say this was one of the nicest meals I have ever had eating out. We had the Chateau Briand for the main, and granny's cake for dessert. We were lucky enough to get a table as during peak season this restaurant can be booked up to 3 weeks in advance. The food was excellent. The service was very attentive. Tony and the rest of the team went above and beyond. If you are going to eat anywhere in Hvar town, I would recommend eating in this restaurant. It was an excellent all round experience.

I gave it only one star because I think that a church should not have an entrance fee in order for you to go in it. I think it is ridiculous to think that you need to pay in able for you to pray on the church. I do admit that the inside of the church was really beautiful and although I do not have any proof of it because there was a sign on the entrance saying that taking of photos and videos inside of the church was forbidden because they claim that it was a holy place but for me it was less holy because I think it is wrong to have an entrance fee on any chuch. I paid for the entrance fee and on my way out, I also donated money. By the way, the reason I have one picture of a section of the inside of the church is I saw another lady tourist taking pictures and no one was reprimanding her so I took a picture of the real reason why people go to the church, it is because of Him, the sole reason why we go to churches. I think He is disappointed with the idea of entrance fees before you can enter the church even if the entrance fee was only 2 Euros. Not to brag but just ro make a point, I donated more than 2 Euros to this church on my way out. That is because I believe that there is no one bigger than Jesus and you can bet that He loves you yeah4x.

The cathedral is beautiful from the outside, but there is nothing exciting inside. You also have to pay 2€ to enter.
John D — Google review
In the heart of Hvar, on the main square, this imposing building commands the view at the end. I was disappointed that photos were forbidden. I understand during a Mass it is disrespectful to take pictures, but entering as a tourist, I like to take pix to show friends, especially other Christians, what churches in different countries are like. Other reviews mention paying an entrance fee but we paid nothing on a Sunday evening (7pm) in September.
David L — Google review
Ticket is 10 HKN but you can’t go up the tower. Might be more of a thing for people with a better knowledge of Christian history. Otherwise not much to see inside.

Interesting look from outside, but I don't remember too many countries where you need to pay to enter church! 10kn entrance, and I dont see that there is anything special to see

The church of Saint Stephen is a beautiful church on the main square of Hvar town. If you spend any time in Hvar town, you’ll see it. The bell tower and exterior/facade are iconic. It costs only 10 Kuna per person to enter, but you can’t take pictures inside the church. However, the inside has alters, niches, and chapels with lovely green, red, and black marble. Overall, worth the 10 Kuna and 20 minutes that it takes to have a look inside.

Riva Marina - Hvar Hotel is a modern and elegant lodging located on the harborfront of Hvar. The hotel's landmark building stands out with its unique and edgy design, reflecting boutique nouvelle vague indulgence. Situated in the heart of Hvar, it has been a prime location attracting star-studded guests since 1927, including Hollywood icons like Orson Welles and Jeanne Moreau.
My wife and I stayed at this hotel, and it was excellent! The location was perfect, in the centre of everything walkable to all. Our room overlooked the marina, and the view was enjoyable with the many boats and luxury yachts going in and out. The staff were so friendly, kind and accommodating , nothing was to much trouble. The all, inclusive breakfast was great - buffet and order hot food from the menu. I was there for my birthday and was presented with a cake and candle at breakfast. On our last day they gave us fruit and sandwiches for the travel home. We were happy with our stay and accommodation. and we would recommend. We have travelled to many places around the world but have never experienced such a fantastic breakfast has at this hotel.

Best Hotel what a gem! A bit pricey but it's vacation! First time in Hvar visiting with my friend. The room was so cozy and comfortable. We had a mini terrace outside our room. The restaurant and breakfast was amazing!! We ordered anything and everything off the menu and their lavish food stations. Literally steps away from the docking marina- perfect to just walk outside and get on the boat/ferry for our excursions. Staff was so nice and attentive. I enjoyed our 3 nights in Hvar. Lively hotel.

Excellent location. If you arrive by ferry, you only need to walk a few steps. The room had a great view. The only downside was that the room was quite small, but it was well designed and efficient, with everything we needed. Lovely perks included a welcome drink, flavored water, and traditional cookies. The service was very attentive. Breakfast was probably the best we had in Croatia, featuring prosecco and mimosas, a nice buffet, and stylish brunch dishes to order.

The Franciscan Monastery is a 15th-century historic church located in a quaint setting with a museum, relics, cloisters, and paintings. It's worth visiting for its cultural significance and the beautiful views from the nearby small cove with a pebbly beach. While there may not be many sights to see in Hvar, it offers plenty of beaches and water activities to keep visitors busy. Additionally, Hvar is known for its vineyards and lavender fields.
A great place for rest and soul where you can breathe in 500-3000 years old history. In the garden, there is a beautiful tree over 500 years old, which, with its splendor, once again reminds everyone that the preservation of nature is the most important thing. Swimwear and party clothes are not allowed in the monastery/museum.

We visited a concert, organised for free in the Monastery. What an experience! A combination of old instruments, wonderful voices and a performance of a professional actor talking with all passion in 17th century Croation. It made my day! A hat off! A day before I visited the gallery and a small numismatic and archaeological collection which was fine but not spectacular.

This happened while we were simply enjoying the sea in front of this church. I’m deeply disappointed and disturbed by the experience my friend and I (both Asian women in our 20s) had here in Croatia. While we were peacefully floating on our inflatable tubes, a group of local teenage boys (approximately 14–15 years old) began throwing balls at us and shouting racially offensive remarks. We reported the incident to the local police, expecting protection and proper handling. Instead, we were met with indifference. The officers dismissed the behaviour as something they “couldn’t do anything about” due to the boys’ age. Shockingly, they even seemed to sympathise with the perpetrators. Let’s be honest – if we had been white, or Croatian, and those boys had been tourists, I doubt this would have been brushed aside so casually. There is clearly a double standard. We felt unsafe, unheard, and entirely unsupported by the very authorities who are meant to uphold justice. I take this incident very seriously and have video evidence of the police’s inadequate response. This experience has completely changed how I view Croatia as a travel destination. Racism should never be tolerated – not from teenagers, and certainly not from the police.

Live music bar
Central Park Club, located in the heart of Hvar, has been a popular spot since 2011. By day, it's a chic coffee shop serving breakfast and fine coffee with an old-world charm thanks to plush sofas and an original fireplace. By night, it transforms into a lively music venue offering evening shows from April to September, featuring jazz, soul, standards and blues music on its uncovered terrace.
This cool and funky bar is perfectly located by the waterfront in central Hvar, making it an ideal spot for both daytime relaxation and evening fun. It offers a vibrant atmosphere with good live music, a solid selection of drinks, and plenty of seating both indoors and across several outdoor terraces with great views. We enjoyed a well-made Negroni while soaking in the lively ambiance and watching the town buzz around us. A great place to unwind and take in the Hvar vibe.

Seafood restaurant
Gariful on Hvar is a renowned fish restaurant that has been in the family for nearly 20 years. It is considered one of the most exclusive dining spots in the Adriatic Islands and boasts an extensive wine list, including an impressive selection of champagne. The restaurant has gained popularity as a must-visit destination for celebrities, with owner Ivan Gospodnetik ensuring that the world knows about the famous names who have enjoyed its fresh seafood.
What a gem! Fantastic setting, excellent food, wines and super friendly service. The cuttlefish risotto… Oh my God!. The grilled squid, and the grouper… We’ll be back !!

Food is very nice. Black risotto is 10/10. Good service. I recommend reserving the table in advance. Overall is great but a bit pricey. €221 for 2 of us. 4 dishes and 2 bottles of sparkling water.

Finally, proper fine dining in Croatia! Many locals somehow got the wrong idea that simply increasing prices makes a restaurant “fine dining.” They put extra effort into this illusion by charging more and more every year, while offering astonished tourists the same cheap grilled food and very slow, poor service. Unfortunately, you rarely have a choice – 90% of restaurants work exactly like this. But back to the experience. The lady at the reception was wonderful. We arrived a bit early and she entertained us with small talk until our booked table was ready. The service team was very attentive: always refilling water and wine, bringing complimentary homemade bread, and showing us the fish of the day. The tables are spacious, which makes you feel incredibly comfortable. Every detail – from the tablecloths to the lights and chairs – is well thought out (only the logoed wine glasses felt a bit cheap, in my opinion). The food was delicious and the portions were fair. The only minor issue was with the fish serving: the waitress didn’t do a great job deboning it in front of us and left quite a few bones. Still, her sex appeal made us forgive her 😺. Overall, the experience was a solid 5/5. It was a relief to see that Croatians can deliver proper hospitality if they put just a little effort into it! My sincere compliments to the owner – a very pleasant man, sipping his bottle of red wine at the bar while making sure everything on the floor was running smoothly. I’ll definitely be back soon!

We had an unforgettable evening at Gariful. The seafood tower was outstanding – fresh, vibrant, and full of flavour. From the white fish to the scampi and squid, every bite was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The highlight of the night was pairing it all with a bottle of Billy champagne, which was nothing short of sensational and complemented the seafood perfectly. What truly made the experience stand out was the exceptional service. Our server, MICO, went above and beyond – warm, attentive, and professional. He made the evening seamless and so enjoyable. The atmosphere, food, drinks, and service were all world-class. Gariful is a must-visit in Hvar if you’re looking for an elegant, fresh, and vibrant dining experience.

Amazing dining experience! The lamb and ribeye was delicious and the waterfront setting made it even more special. Our server Ivicia was outstanding. He was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. Definitely worth a visit when in Hvar!

I typically will not write a review without properly experiencing a restaurant but the experience was so bad that we had to walkout before ordering. We had reservations and upon seating the table next to us was chain smoking. I have asthma and had to immediately leave. We requested another table and despite the restaurant having so many open tables not near the smokers, the hostess refused to move us. She said she would add our name to a waitlist and call but never did. I’m glad we left as it is a notorious tourist trap.

Gariful in Hvar is a must-visit – stunning sea views, ultra-fresh seafood, great wine, and flawless service. Pricey, but worth every bite.

Konoba "Luviji Rooftop"

Restaurant
Konoba "Luviji Rooftop" offers an unpretentious and cozy dining experience in a former wine cellar and family house, now transformed into a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views. The family-run eatery serves traditional Dalmatian dishes such as fresh fish or lamb baked in a wood oven with vegetables. The ground floor features a romantic courtyard setting, while the limited menu changes according to seasonal ingredients' availability. Guests can also enjoy homemade wine and goat cheese from the family's farm.
This was our favourite dinner in Croatia so far! Staff were super friendly and had a great understanding of the meals and how they were created. We had the local fish and vegetables and gnocchi dish which was amazing. The staff paired our dishes with wines which are made locally. The setting is not far from the centre but away enough to avoid too much of the hustle and bustle. Definitely recommend for a meal!

Wow.. we had amazing time here. Best food in Hvar.. The service at the restaurant by 2 the brothers was great. They were very attentive, so helpful and funny too. They adjusted the food to my allergies. The sitting is at the rooftop and I must say it felt so special. No unnecessary noises of the people near the dock area. People should definitely try here. Thanks so much for making our last evening at Hvar so special.

Fantastic restaurant, situated up on a cozy rooftop with great views overlooking the City. The food was even better than the view. The burrata with pesto was delicious. For the main, we ordered the daily catch of the day (seabass) roasted in a pan with garlic and a white wine sauce, together with vegetables. Could eat this every day for the rest of our vacation. Highly recommended.

I had such a lovely experience at this restaurant! The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, but what truly made the evening special was the service. Our waiter was absolutely incredible. From the moment we sat down, he was kind, patient, and genuinely attentive. He took the time to explain the menu, gave us excellent recommendations based on our preferences, and checked in regularly to make sure everything was perfect, without ever being intrusive. He had that rare ability to make you feel both welcomed and taken care of, and it honestly elevated the whole dining experience. You can tell he genuinely cares about his work and the guests. It’s not often you meet someone in hospitality who brings such warmth and professionalism to the table quite literally! We left the restaurant not only full, but also feeling grateful for such wonderful service. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back, especially if I know he’s working!

Amazing food, fantastic service and very cozy! We enjoyed it so much we came back twice! The traditional beef with gnocchi was fantastic! And the local wine so good.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Great food, beautiful setting, and top-level service. Luka (waiter), Duje (bartender), and Keli (chef) were all outstanding – professional, friendly, and clearly passionate about their work. Everything felt smooth and well-organized. Highly recommended. Will definitely come back!

Dining at Konoba “Luviji Rooftop” was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and attentively taken care of by Luka and Duje, who made us feel like honored guests. Their service was impeccable—friendly, professional, and with excellent recommendations. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. The steak, cooked to perfection and topped with a delicate pat of butter, was rich, tender, and full of flavor. It was beautifully paired with crispy fries, pickled onions, and a beet reduction that added a gourmet touch. The roasted eggplant, fresh garden salad, and warm bread made the meal complete. A crisp glass of white wine tied everything together as we enjoyed the sunset. And speaking of sunsets—the rooftop view over Hvar’s old town, with the sun dipping below the terracotta rooftops and the fortress in the distance, was simply breathtaking. It’s the kind of setting that elevates a great meal into an unforgettable experience. A special thank you to Head Chef Kelly, whose culinary talent was evident in every dish. You can feel the passion and care that goes into the cooking here. If you’re in Hvar, do not miss this hidden gem. Konoba Luviji Rooftop is a perfect blend of ambiance, flavor, and hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!
