The Kuretake Inn in Nagoya is a budget-friendly hotel with a few notable features, some good and others not so much. The standout oddity is the shower toilet, an over-the-top setup where the shower water comes directly from the toilet—a feature that’s likely to raise a few eyebrows. There is a separate micro-shower for those unwilling to face the challenge.
On the positive side, the conveniently located hotel provides complimentary slippers, pajamas, and grooming supplies, which is a thoughtful touch for a budget stay. The room itself was decent, with a comfortable bed, though nothing particularly remarkable besides being extremely small.
There are extra costs to be aware of, such as the ¥100 charge per towel, which feels excessive. Breakfast, unfortunately, was another disappointment. Aside from the bread, the food was inedible, with offerings like sauce-covered dishes, curry, and vinegar black beans. Combine that with a crowded dining area and 10AM checkout, and it’s not an enjoyable start to the day.
The bathhouse on the first floor could have been a nice perk, but it was too crowded, and the lengthy shower habits of some guests (30 minutes of constant scrubbing) made it difficult to get a quick rinse in before and after.
On the brighter side, the hotel includes a happy hour with one complimentary glass of liquor, which is a nice gesture. While the hotel has its downsides, the price is hard to beat, and the added amenities make it a reasonable choice for budget travelers. I’d stay here again for the cost and convenience, though it’s best to manage expectations.
