A restaurant that specializes in Nagoya style miso based udon/rice served in a claypot. I ordered the miso udon with tempura prawn and egg cost 1,500Y. Service was swift and courteous. Nagoya miso is really different from the miso I have tried and even cook with at home. It's not savory at all, it has a slight bitter after taste and grainy texture. I'm glad I tried it, will be open minded to explore different taste!

We are so glad we found this restaurant. We really wanted to try the Miso Nikomi Udon and Google maps sent me here. It is an old establishment and has lots of atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The servings are super hot and huge. It’s not our favourite style but it is very distinctive and we had a lot of fun.

Had an early morning Meitetsu train and wanted to have another Mishima before I left, so this was the only option for me (the other two are inside JR gates). But i might have picked the wrong choice. Kariaage soaked in the soup spoiled everything: the kariaage was soggy (not the most pleasant texture), and the soup turned oily in less than 30 sec. It was still fragrant with rather clean and strong bonito flavor right after served. I almost regretted taking this breakfast (coz I delayed my train schedule for it). The noodles weren’t as wide and thin as other places, which is not a bad thing but not something I went for.

I was told Taiwan Ramen was a Nagoya specialty, so decided to give it a try. I arrived around 6:30pm for dinner and was third in line, so the wait was about 10-15 minutes. They clean up tables very quickly and get the next person in line seated fast. I ordered a Taiwan ramen with egg and a gyoza. The ramen portion was small, so adding a side was definitely worth it. It’s also properly spicy, not like most Japanese versions of other spicy food. Overall it tasted like mapo tofu ramen without any tofu, which is a little disappointing as I love tofu but it was still a very tasty bowl in the end.

We got there just before 12pm lunch time, there was a queue forming so we ended up waiting 10 to 15 mins. Like many other places you place your order whilst you're queuing. The whole experience was good, nice and friendly staff. At first I thought the food would be quite rich but it was just right. I had the bowl and my partner had the fillet. Mine was nice but the fillet was quite tender and it melted in your mouth!

I seldom visit a restaurant twice when I travelled. But this restaurant made an exception. I was really amazed by the miso tonkatsu!! The pork was very juicy and tender. The proportion of the fat and meat is just right and the fat gave a really aromatic taste. It’s my first time having tonkatsu with miso sauce and I didn’t think I’d like it so much. The breadcrumb layer was made so well that the crisp texture of the last tonkatsu piece was maintained. I dined in and ordered the rib loin tonkatsu set for the first time. Since the first experience was so good, I craved for it again the next day. For the second time, I ordered takeaway with the loin tonkatsu set. Even with takeaway, the flavours and texture were maintained. I wasn’t a tonkatsu fan before but this miso tonkatsu really turned me into one!

I came during dinner time and there was a long queue, but as I am eating alone, I waited only for 5-10mins. Staff took my order as I was waiting in line and there wasn’t much waiting for the food once I am seated. Ordered the mixed miso/soy sauce tonkatsu and loved the soy sauce one more than the miso. Overall, although it was a little greasy, but the juicy pork and cabbage makes it bearable. Miso soup wasn’t too salty.

Friends. On our 2nd day of staying in Nagoya, I decided to try the local Tebasaki(Nagoya Fried Chicken Wings) and found this place through Google. It's hidden in a small alley so it's easy to miss. When we arrived, we were greeted by one of the staff members who told us to wait since the restaurant was fully occupied. After waiting a couple of minutes we were let in and sat by the counter bar. Highly recommended you book in advance if you can. The staff doesn't speak English but we managed to communicate with our limited Japanese, Google Translate and they have an English Menu so you can just pick what you want. We got a complimentary Mac & Cheese while we waited for our orders. I ordered 8 pieces of Tebasaki wings with Black sweet sauce which are cooked to order so it took 15-20min and the wait was well worth it. The chicken was tender, crispy, and savoury. It was that addicting to eat but recommend you order a drink or two as you get easily dry. Highly recommend and will definitely come back the next time I visit Nagoya.

I made a reservation but if you come at opening time (5pm), you can walk in and grab a seat. The space is quite cozy with counter seats. They have three flavours here: White (salt & pepper), Red (savoury & spicy) and Black (sweet soy sauce). No one could decide on a unanimous best flavour, so I ordered all to try. It comes in 3 (560Yen), 5 (890Yen) or 8 (1,360Yen) wings. For me, I liked the White and Red. The Black is a bit sweet for me. I will not say it’s the best wings but the wings are delicious. I would also recommend ordering a drink. They have many drink options, from alcoholic to soft drinks. By the way, there’s a compulsory pasta salad appetiser (250Yen) that you have to order.

I visited this place today with my friend. Just bar (Izakaya) hopping , happened to end up here. I had more than a few drinks I do think they can do a lot better with the food. Just in my personal opinion the dish was salty BUT I loved the atmosphere and the service by the staff. I would definitely visit again to try out their menu.

One of the must trys when visiting Nagoya for the first time. We had Komeda's coffee for breakfast to try there red bean toast. The bread was toasted lightly, cruchy and fluffy at the same time. There isn't much option for beverage in the morning for non-coffee drinkers so I opted for the corn soup.

Skipped the free breakfast from my hotel to experience Nagoya breakfast culture here in Komeda. I liked the idea of free egg and bread for every coffee order and I really loved the vibe of joining locals in their pre work routine. They say cafes open late in Japan, clearly, they've never been to Nagoya.

At first I was hesitant since the reviews only go as high as 3.5 in google maps; however, these shouldn’t stop anyone from immersing in an authentic Japanese morning coffee experience. Locals gazing to the newspaper intensely and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee is whiffing in the air. These elements, carefree and unique memories worth remembering someday.

Popped by for breakfast. When you order a drink, you get some bread/toast for free. You can pick from a limited number of toppings such as hard boiled egg, scrambled egg or red bean paste. Drinks include coffee, tea, hot chocolate, other drinks etc. I ordered a hot red bean milk which was REALLy sweet but still nice. Went well with my red bean paste toast. My partner ordered a red bean past hot tea which was less sweet due to the tea component

Nagoya’s famous coffee chain, had to try it. Did not disappoint, coffee was average as expected, but the breakfast items were great. Red bean toast, pancake, delicious!

This is really a "WOW" restaurant, a little bit hard to find as it is located in the basement, and not exactly a tourist focused restaurant, but a a very local, young drinking joint. We went there with my kids and I thought since we sat down, we just tried a couple of dishes and then go to a more family suitable place. Initially I orders 5 dishes and we were trapped then. As my kids loved the cheese tempura and cheese egg roll, then the chicken wing came and we just couldn't believe it. As most of the comments mentioned, the chicken wing is a must try, crunchy, juicy and well seasoned. Then there was the draft beer , "the Premium Malts" again, but this time, compared with Takayama, much much smoother. We continued our eating journey and I think we order around 80% of the menu and I think this chef is very very talented, there was no one dish that I would give a bad comment and some dishes are so well fusion and creative such as the Kishumen carbonara. There were around 30 customers there and only 2 cooks and 2 waiters to serve them all, food was a little slow but for that quality, very bearable. Waiters couldn't speak English (nothing new in Japan) but very friendly and helpful, QR code scan menu with online credit card payment, in both Japanese and English, it would be good it the menu came along with the pictures. This place was the first restaurant I visited as I wasn't expecting much from Nagoya as there wasn't much of food recommendations beside unagi rice and deep fried chicken wings, but this joint has changed my whole perspective and expectation towards Nagoya. Some dishes that I recommend u have to order there: chicken wing, cheese tempura, wasabi jellyfish, Kishumen carbonara. My final bill which initially I expected to be 5000 yen just to sit down for the first 5 dishes to the end almost 20,000 yen for trying almost 80% of the menu with 6 draft beers. Well done chef.

The chicken wings were incredibly crunchy and seasoned well. Portion sizes were quite good and I'd recommend giving the horse sashimi a go if you haven't had it before.

Would be five stars if it was a bit cheaper. Delicious shrimp sandwich. Warm and with plenty of mayo. Made to order even if taken to go. Ham and egg breakfast sandwich special and coffee aren’t very good though. Smokey and old place with character. Kind of hard to find - go downstairs at entrance/exit 8 and it’s close to there. Go down second hall on your left lined with shops. No english signs. You can just ask someone for help.

APRIL 2023 Came here for late night snack and wait time was not that long. Tried the signature pepper coated fried chicken wings and it was salty and tasty, but I think I prefer the wings with the sweet black sauce glaze which was more meaty and juicy. Food and service was good.

Food is ok here but i don't find anything special about the signature chicken wings. Other dishes is good but i have had better. Long queue before we get the table but the service was ok even the restaurant is full.

A well-known Nagoya fried chicken restaurant. Of course, the signature menu is fried chicken which the taste is unique but not that outstanding. Beside this menu, there are many other menu. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is quite tough and full with annoying fog. The price is okay but it would be more convincing if cheaper.

The very famous Nagoya Yamachan no chicken wings. The place has a very lively atmosphere. Service is good. Chicken wings quite tasty, crispy but slightly more salty. The spicy version was extremely salty somehow.

黒手羽先 is really delicious. 縞ホッケis a kind of roast fish, but the fish smell is quite strong. The restaurant give out free face masks with chicken wing pattens on it, really cute.

Some of other famous Unagi restaurant near Nagoya station always has a long time, which need wait for hours, so I tried this one. Overall, it's not bad. First you don't need to wait for a long time. I came around dinner time and wait only around 30 minutes, which is acceptable. The eel taste good but I like slightly more crispy is possible. I also ordered the shrimp tempura which looks different from others but taste good. If you want to try Unagi but don't want to wait for a long time, you should try it here.

We ordered the Hitsumabushi and enjoyed it very much. The unagi was soft with some crispy edges, and the broth was very comforting. The queue at lunchtime on a Monday was around 30 minutes, and definitely longer on weekends. The restaurant is quite small and the tables are packed closely together. Service was efficient and excellent.

We got the hitsumabushi set and the mini unagi/maguro don set. The former was pretty good with the dashi being a unique regional specialty. The maguro was not good - under salted and not super fresh looking. Overall wouldn’t come back at this price point, but if others have a long wait then sure as it’s conveniently in the shopping arcade of the station.

Came here for dinner on weekday around 530pm. No queue at all. Ordered the famous hitsumabushi 3080 yen. Get a free dessert by showing the Esca tourist coupon - the warabimochi is good! Of course, the hitsumabushi is delicious as well, portion is big enough for 1 person~ love the chazuke way of eating it & the wasabi goes well with it too! Recommended

Exceptional unagi. Ordered the regular hitsumabushi but I enjoyed it so much I wish that I'd ordered more! I knew that I enjoyed eel from trying it before elsewhere, but the dish served here was beautifully grilled. The skin had achieved a perfect caramelisation that was simply a delight. While I did enjoy trying the 3 different ways to eat the eel, honestly the meat was so beautiful I stuck with just the eel and rice by itself. Similar to a top tier steak, sure you could add sauce and extras...but you really don't need to! Simply incredible. A must visit. And so close to the station. While the menu might not be in English, most smartphones can translate perfectly well these days anyway and I managed to order and pay without problem.

The best unagi-don I’ve had. The broth that’s included to make ochazuke was so clean and flavorful. The menu is in Japanese so be prepared to use a translator with a camera. The space is also limited so smaller parties work best here

Try the middle price hitsumabushi. Unagi is more charcoal burnt and taste better. Overall, it is nice but can select the unagi or eel bowl for cheaper option.

Before boarding the train to Tokyo, I grabbed a quick bowl of beef kishimen at a small standing noodle bar located on the Shinkansen platform at Nagoya Station. Ordering was straightforward: buy a meal ticket from the vending machine outside, queue briefly, and hand it to the staff once you enter. In just a couple of minutes, a steaming bowl of kishimen was served. The broth was rich and flavourful, and the noodles had a soft, chewy texture that paired beautifully with the tender beef and egg. Although the space was compact, each diner had a designated spot to eat. Just be aware that some travellers bring their luggage inside, which can make the area feel a bit cramped.

An udon shop at the middle of the waiting tracks in Nagoya station. I heard people specifically go to this place to eat, but I don’t see the hype. You order from outside through a kiosk. The place is standing counter only. The noodle is indeed fast but it was from a prepackaged noodle pack. The broth is okay. I was eating in a corner; I didn’t know that the water server is on another so I missed the chance to get a drink.

I ordered a set of rice and grilled chicken with salad and bean soup. This is the first time I tried brazilian food. I’m very happy with this meal. The server was kindly helpful with the menu and explain them in english.

It's delicious but kinda overpriced when regarding the portion size and taste, I ordered a set with chicken, salad and Brazilian fried pastries, everything tasted fine but nothing spectacular, I would love to eat here again but the price doesn't encourage me to do so, as I can eat food with the same quality and portions and pay much less money, regardless it was still a good experience. Overall, I recommend trying the food here at least once, although I recommend avoiding chicken and salad dishes as they are pretty average.

Here, the friendly staff welcomed us with minimal yet sufficient English, complemented by a fusion of Japanese and Vietnamese hospitality. Fortunately, the establishment also provided menus in both English and Chinese, ensuring a smooth ordering experience for all international visitors. To our delight, freshly brewed green tea was served complimentary—a warming touch amidst the cool holiday air. As for the food itself—oh, where do I begin? We ordered an assorted sashimi rice bowl and a bountiful tempura set. The sashimi was impeccably fresh, a medley of colours and textures, each bite a burst of oceanic flavour. The silky salmon, delicate tuna, and luscious scallops practically melted on the tongue. If I had a second stomach, I would have eagerly ordered another round without hesitation. If in Nagoya dont miss the fishmarket for a japanese breakfast (opens super early when the fishermen bring in the freshly caught fish) or an early lunch. Got here a bit late but this small sushi restaurant did not dissapoint. Very fresh (obviously) and friendly.

The market is very near Nagoya station (5-10mins) walk max Restaurants opened around 10am. Lots of options. We saw an omakase shop charging 4400¥ for a 9 course sushi plus other stuff. Fresh sushi and sashimi at unbelievable prices. We also saw a towering heap of ramen serving for 1 hungry slim salaryman hehehe. Must visit if you visit Nagoya and love cheap fresh seafood!

A local market seafood market that's not exactly catered to tourist. Arrived at 8+ on a weekday morning and it wasn't crowded, although about half the stalls were closing. But it means you don't get in the way of as many tradesmen. Seafood available on sale there was different from what I see back home and the stalls that still remained open provided for a short but interesting sight. Overall a small-medium sized market that is more localised and non-touristy. The following is the review of a food stall I ate at in the market. I was unable to find its listing on Google Maps, but the attached photo shows the shop name in Japanese. The staff spoke Japanese and what sounded like Vietnamese. The tuna (both minced and sliced) were fresh, but the slices that came with the rice were poorly sliced, resulting in tattered slices and frequent tough strips of tissue that was hard to chew through. The sliced otoro was good, as it should be, but it had a slightly fish aftertaste and was initially served without wasabi. Would probably not revisit this stall.

I really don’t understand some of the lower reviews here this is a very interesting active central market! The shop owners were busy but friendly and it was so interesting getting a glimpse of Local daily life and culture here. Yes it’s not as big as the huge markets in Tsukiji but it’s also not as crowded! Go early because everything starts to close after 10 AM!

This wet market is good for people who happen to be up early and look for a place to spend time at. It is like many of the wet markets one sees around the world. I wouldn’t climb out of bed early just for this. There are restaurants in the building so dining here is possible. I ended up having a sashimi bowl(¥1000) that was quite delicious.

Tourists Beware: Second-Class Treatment at This Restaurant If you're not a local, prepare to feel like an afterthought. While residents are welcomed with real silverware, glass plates, and attentive table service, tourists are handed disposable cutlery and directed to order through a cold, impersonal touchscreen. There's no system to alert you when your food is ready—you’re expected to magically sense it. I watched plates sit for 15–20 minutes, untouched, as confused guests (tourists) waited nearby with no communication from staff. It’s clear: locals get service, tourists get shrugged off. If you're visiting, don't expect hospitality—just hope your food is still warm by the time you discover it's been ready.

Honestly they’ve captured the essence of Italian culture and food. I was here for lunch and loved everything we ordered. My personal favourite would be the sausage and margarita pizza. Would definitely visit again in the future. I wish they had more Italian draft beer options which would’ve been top notch,but still moretti will do. Also they have variety of quality wine would defensively try it next time. Note: Call ahead or book a course or you have to wait in queue (quite a long one) as it is busy from the start till end.

Food is good and the pizzas are beautifully made and tasty. Not the cheapest but good food. Staff didn't seem to speak much English but we got by. Loved the ambience and decor of the restaurant. Saw lots of people take photos with their food and drinks.

I quite enjoyed their Neapolitan pizza. A little small compared to standard Neapolitan pizza joints, but tasted very authentic. The place gets quite busy and it’s not table service, so the atmosphere isn’t as pleasant as it could be. I probably prefer the one in Osu.

Hard to hear the order if you don’t speak Japanese, but the staff will help you. No idea why people said they were unkind to foreigners - one of the people serving noticed we were 4 people split to 2 tables and moved us to a 4 table as soon as it became ready. Pizza is great - proper Neapolitan, chewy and salty. Tiramisu great also. Good vibe, and the terrace is great.

I went here for the first time some months ago but I have yet to find a pizza that tastes better than this in Aichi. This is a very popular chain pizza restaurant in Nagoya and after visiting there to try their pizza I can see why. They serve authentic Napolitano pizza made with fresh ingredients, the wait time can be long but it’s worth it once you have the pizza in front of you. I ordered the standard marinara and it was great. You need to get there early to avoid lining up for too long, every time I’ve tried to go there since it’s been an hours wait minimum. It’s hard to find good authentic pizza in Japan sometimes but if you are in Nagoya I would recommend going here to try it.

When in Nagoya, best to try one of their many local specialties, like the miso cutlet! Located inside the station, one bite of the rich miso cutlet can easily finish half a bowl of rice. As we were leaving Nagoya we realized we missed having misokatsu so we found this place downstairs in the train station. I was skeptical because sometimes train station food isn’t very good- but I was pleasantly surprised and we enjoyed our meal. We split the #1 set with the misokatsu, rice, cabbage salad, miso soup, beef, and chicken wings. We also ordered a side of 5 wings. It was the perfect amount of food for two. I think I also discovered that I’m 100% in love with misokatsu… so I’ll be back!

3 forms of miso! One of them might be surprising! This is the easiest place you can get hold of a plate of misokatsu at Nagoya station. In the set menu they have miso katsu and miso soup with rice. And don't forget to try the miso beer! (It's a subtle taste; enjoyable)

Delicious Nagoya udon which is thicker than harder than ( al dente) than normal udon. We had the season’s speciality with mushroom . Soup was thick and flavourful. Recommend the green pepper egg roll . Really nice !

Arrived early evening in Nagoya ahead of the festival weekend and wanted to try the local miso udon noodle dish. It was a really warming dish with thick noodles and a much stronger and deep broth flavor than others we have tried in Japan. After a few slurps we really got to like it. It’s a really tasty and satisfying dish and will definitely come back for more on our next visit.

Read good reviews of this place as one of the highly recommended place to go for this Nagoya Miso Nikomi Udon. Worth a try, but overall food was generally pretty salty and the service was not as good. Waiters were not very attentive unless asked for. I noticed that all tables were served with a bib to prevent splatters of the soup ruining your shirt, but unintentionally or not they did not give us. Upon ordering, they gave a pickled salad dish and instructed to pour the soya/ vinegar in to eat together.. Salty. Water refills only upon requests too. Was in the market for some udon and stumbled across this place that has been in operation for 110 years and thought it must be good if it has been around that long and it didn’t disappoint. The stock was great and the noddles thick and firm. Loved it!

Heard to be some traditional miso udon in Japan but sorry~ i think it’s bit overrated… I don’t really enjoy the taste of it. Although it’s a nice experience having noodles out of a hot ceramic pot, udon were still a bit on an undercooked side with a super chewy texture which I don’t really like. Soup was too rich and at one point it tasted salty + bitter. Not a big fan of it☹️

Food for the soul. The homemade pickled vegetables was to die for, wish they gave more 😭 Miso stew was a little too salty for me but still a comforting base! Udon noodles were a bit tough for my liking, but prevented the noodles from becoming soggy towards the end of the meal. Highly recommend trying the fried tofu — it was fried to perfection & went so well with the radish/ginger that comes with it! English menu available & staff also knows basic english which helped a lot! :) would recommend trying out the miso udon here!

I think this place is great, they have english menu and english speaking staff that enough for communication. The sashimi are all fresh, we have a warmed sake and a beer as a drink. Their grilled mackarel is so good, but my favorite is a deep fried squid. It comes perfectly as a beer companion. It open 24 hours. I also have grilled unagi that taste so good. I ussualy dont really like unagi, but i love it in here.
