But if I were to try to break it down I would say this place seemed so promising with gluten-free options and a really diverse menu. When we got there it still seemed too good to be true. I really wanted to have a good experience today but between their distracted and over busy staff to the poorly made dishes, you can see that the biggest picture here and the biggest problem is management. Our last visit was awful. The valet service was nice, and pricey. My desire to eat at The Brown before the "restaurant" aka tables in the lobby opened at 5 left me eating at the bar disgruntled one night. The famous hot brown I would not order again...my serving had one very thick slab of turkey in it; thin slices would have been so much better. And I think slices of raw tomatoes rather than quarters of stewed tomatoes also would have been better. Overall as a Kentucky native now living elsewhere I'm glad I experienced The Brown but I doubt I would choose it again if I came back to Louisville.

Then we got our food, my husband ordered the steak and eggs, which was $35, and the ribeye was medium instead of medium rare, but was extremely thin (a centimeter, picture included) and not marbled like a normal ribeye. Amazing location with street parking available. Great selection of Bourbon and beers available, and a great menu. They offer 4 styles of pizza: thin, original, thick, and Sicilian. We went with original, and it was perfect crust, with a chewy edge. Louisville style is two layers of cheese and toppings, with a slightly thicker than thin crust. We loved it, but it's very filling. Lots of leftovers, which is never bad. We always get 16in to maximize our slice to pizza ratio. Service was fast and attentive, their pizzas do take longer than your average, but it was worth it. We decided to stop at the bar and have a drink and Tamara was such an awesome bartender!! She concocted my husband the smoothest Old Fashion he's ever had and I had the Minted Gold and it was divine! We had already been downstairs to check out the Rathstellar and it was insane how beautiful that was but we mentioned to her that we wanted to see where Al Capone played poker and she told us where it was. Turned out the Oak Room was locked and she went out of her way to have it unlocked for us!! There was a kind man who came and met us to unlock it and show us around!! He showed us where they played and the secret doorway where Capone could escape. It was so cool! We ended up stopping by the market and purchasing Mr. Larry Johnson's book that he wrote about all the stories and history of the hotel. What a treat and such a wonderful visit to step back in time for a bit!! They really knew how to make things grande back then! Thank you!!!

For our first visit we ordered fried pickles, biscuits & sausage gravy, skillet potatoes, bacon egg & cheese biscuit, grilled cheese & fries. I have tested biscuits & gravy across my wide travels for 30 years. This place has in my opinion the best traditional B&G in that time!! Everything else was excellent as well. We are adding this place to our brunch destinations. Next visit will be trying their sandwiches!

And even through this, she received the standard tip from her. For a restaurant that we have always felt at home, tonight's experience was exceptionally bad. Got to love burnt famous made from scratch biscuits. I attempted to give them a chance to redeem themselves by calling to talk to a manager. But honestly after being on hold twice for over 8 mins each time and no manager ever came to the phone. I felt really let down by the management and staff tonight. Get a clue!!!
