The quayside is beautiful and this hotel has the lovely Millennium Bridge on its doorstep with great views of the Tyne. Rooms are quirky with upbeat wallpapering - some styles are a little challenging for some - but the rooms are spacious and clean and pleasant. The breakfast room is first-class and the staff, led by Teasie, are terrific - friendly, attentive, and happy. The front desk staff are quick to respond to any issues. I also appreciate how they were able to extend my booking last minute. The best part of this hotel is access to downtown Newcastle by foot and access to the train station or metro. The only thing I don't recommend is the restaurant on the 2nd floor. It was extremely overpriced and portions were small and the food was not worth it, especially when there are countless options nearby that are easily walkable. For breakfast I highly recommend going to the cafe on the 1st floor. The food and snacks there are great and prices are much better.

The staff were in the main friendly, accommodating and helpful and the service was good. It's only a 15-20 minute from the train station (go via the high level bridge to avoid the steep uphill with your case!). And the walk into town across the Tyne going out at night via the Quayside is perfect (though be warned after a few beers there is a VERY steep but short walk back up to the hotel from the river). The staff were lovely and the yoghurt bar at breakfast had fabulous, proper Greek yoghurt with yummy compotes and seeds. One of the best breakfasts I've had at a hotel. Even the flat white from the machine was good. I've given 4 star for service because: 1. we were asked if we wanted eggs for breakfast and we both ordered poached eggs which never materialised. 2. my hair dryer blew up while I was using it. The newly refurbished 5th-floor room is a huge success. The design feels spacious, modern, and very 'zen'. The new colour scheme and lighting instantly create a more relaxing environment. The hotel is ideally placed for train station, central attractions, shopping, and great restaurants and bars. The evening staff member looked disinterested and just kept saying 30 secs walk. Not helpful when I don't know what Im looking for. Room was nice with good shower but lots of noise from outside and so didn't sleep well. Breakfast staff were really lovely and it was a decent breakfast with coffee. I did however have to repeatedly inform staff I had breakfast included as I got missed of the list. I won't stay here again. This place needs to improve on their customer service skills.

The staff were lovely. The room was very out dated, and dark. The only lights in the room were lamps next to the bed. All of the plug sockets were weird and couldnt even use a phone charger. At the time, a hairdryer was running, so we did not hear the initial knock. I understand the hotel’s protocols for entering rooms, but I strongly believe that if staff can clearly hear a hairdryer or similar noise, they should apply common sense. Such a sound could easily mean a guest has just come out of the bathroom and may be undressed. In that case, returning later would be far more appropriate and respectful. The on-duty manager did an okay job addressing the complaint, reviewing CCTV footage and going over policies with staff. However, communication between him and the cleaner was poor, and we were given multiple, inconsistent stories and excuses in what felt like an attempt to smooth things over. This only added to our frustration and gave the impression that the situation wasn’t being handled as transparently as it should have been. That being said, I am genuinely happy with the resolution we received. Even though this incident happened to me, I believe it was a genuine mistake, and we have already made a big enough deal of it at the time. I will be returning to Crowne Plaza Newcastle in the future because I do think the hotel has many positives – but I also hope they take this as a lesson in ensuring privacy and communication are never compromised again.

While RR was working in the day I had such fun exploring both the hotel and Newcastle. Newcastle is a stunning city and no matter how often you visit there is always something new to see. Even when he actually lived in Washington we still visited Newcastle for nights away to explore together. So if you're unsure as to visit Newcastle then do - it can be very romantic ! I love how close to the train station the hotel is too - just around the corner, a 8 minutes walk with a suitcase. The hotel is gorgeous. We stayed as usual in the rooms that allow you access to the lounge and the lady in there while we were there was so happy to help with everything. I am gluten free and Sally went out of her way to find me some lovely gluten free treats on every visit. When you have allergies it is always concerning when eating out so to find someone so conscientious is wonderful. The rooms were beautiful as usual, the restaurant and the bar food were brilliant , all members of staff were lovely and helpful. I can not complain about anything. I look forward to visiting again soon.

We booked a junior suite with club lounge access for 2 nights. Booked weeks in advance as an"ihg" member which stands for nothing as the closer it got the price reduced although it was booked on an early saving rate. The suite was ok nothing spectacular and lacked lighting with just a lamp in the lounge part and 2 bedside lights in the bedroom. The balcony had no seating, ye I get it's October but the day was lovely and might have been nice to sit out there as shown in the pictures of the room on the website. Both nights we were woken by noisy guests, I understand this is out of control of the hotel but the walls are obviously paper thin. Early on the Saturday morning there was a van across from the hotel throwing metal sheeting into a skip so constant banging, again not the hotels fault but doesn't say much for the sound proofing of the windows. We tried to use the "spa" facilities as this was one of the main reasons we chose the hotel but had to wait on a list and when we did get in there was no seating and ended up stood in the pool waiting for the jacuzzi and sauna. We ended up giving up and just returned to our room. We tried again the next morning to again be told it was full, after waiting 40 minutes we gave up as it seemed pointless to go in and be in the same position as the day before. On check out we asked to pay for parking and were advised we would have to pay at the machine as they had no vouchers so had to pay the full price. Not a massive deal but why advertise reduced parking if they can't honour it. Went for a relaxing break and come home more tired than before we went. So if you're looking for a relaxing weekend away this is not the place for you.

Hotel itself is modern and well-located for station, although it’s a shame there’s no access from this side of the tracks. Short walk to Bigg Market and Grey Street for food. Last time I stayed I found the hotel better than this - on this occasion, check in was good, very quick and efficient, but the room seemed a little tired, which it odd as it’s not that old. The room itself was actually a small suite, although it didn’t really seem to know what it wanted to be. I suspect what we have here is some random space at the end of a corridor which needed a use. The lounge was large, but with little furniture and very few lights. The bedroom was like a standard bedroom. I wouldn’t choose to book this type of room - I don’t really know what to do with the lounge bit, so just a bedroom is fine. You could see the station platforms from the room. I sleep deeply, so the trains didn’t disturb me, but something to bear in mind if you don’t. Hotel has a decent 24 hour gym in the basement - I liked this. A couple of good treadmills on there. There is apparently a (black-tiled?) pool as well, but there are strange signs in the lift which suggest this is likely to be unpleasantly busy. Hotel has a bar and restaurant - didn’t visit on this occasion as there were conferences taking place so both quite busy. He was very charismatic, professional and funny. Fairly central. Ten minute walk uphill to the Metro Station at Central Station. There are shortcuts up some steep steps, a couple of which are medieval in date but these can be a bit dark and forbidding at night. The hotel could do with updating and refreshing. The rooms are large and comfortable but the bathroom was surprisingly small and needed updating (tiles, toilet, shower). There were no plugs (or USB points) within metres of the bed. This needs to be remedied. Some of the seats in the dining room were grubby and needed a good clean. Generally, having been opened in 1991, the impression is that it needs sprucing up and updating.

Unfortunately we will not return. There are plenty of alternatives in Newcastle. The visit was organised for our anniversary and my birthday and we paid a premium for a larger room. We booked an "executive suite". The room was large however it felt very dated and tired, not exactly 4*. The view over the river was fabulous, unfortunately whilst sitting in the bay window overlooking the Tyne, we noticed finger- and toenails that had been cut and left by previous occupants. The room had been serviced however toilet rolls had not been replaced. Tea coffee and biscuits had not been fully replenished. When we asked the cleaner we were given extra however we were expected to take our own. Again this sorted the problem but not exactly 4* service. I mentioned this at reception and to give them their due they did offer to either clean the room or move us, but at 8pm we did not want to pack up and move. None of these issues are spectacularly bad however it all comes down to one thing. What do you expect from a 4*hotel? We spoke to the manager who did acknowledge the tired nature of the hotel and that they had offered us some remediation with regards to cleaning or moving. We accept this and were not looking for some recompense. Our intention was to inform. We were offered free parking on our next visit and an upgrade to the tired executive rooms. Not a huge draw. The hotel emailed to say how they have prioritised the cleanliness of the hotel which surprised us. One last thing. If breakfast is offered then a high quality of food should be provided until the time that breakfast closes. We struggled to find cooked items that were not dried up, there was no bread avaliable for a toasting machine (that was turned off), and no pastries left.

We booked the only room type available for our dates on booking.com. It turned out that the pictures didn’t match reality, as when booking a standard room, based on the pictures, we expected a room with a good view of the city. When we walked into the room, we were disappointed with the view, as it was located on the first floor overlooking the back doors of the nearest restaurants and their rubbish bins. This made us think that the hotel favours working people and values them more than others. Therefore, I would recommend taking this into account and accommodate guests with dogs in quiet or remote rooms so that there are no complaints from either side and everyone remains happy.

This is certainly not a motel, quite a nice hotel. I arrived around midday exhausted from a flight and not in the best mood. There was unfortunately no room available, however, the staff were very accommodating and offered me the option of an accessible room so that I could check-in early. I came back an hour later and they had a standard room ready for me. It would be great if there was the option to book an early check-in even if it meant paying a little extra. However, this was resolved fairly quickly by the lovely reception staff. The room was comfortable and well thought out, with power points in useful places and a decent full length mirror. The restaurant and bar areas downstairs looked nice, although I didn't use them. Enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back!

Didn't realise we had booked the Gateshead Leonardo until we got to Newcastle. But of a trek from the metro to the hotel but thankfully all downhill. As we arrived later than check-in, there's was a coach party arriving. This did not delay our check-in and we we were soon in our room. Front desk has a direct taxi call and we got a message when our taxi arrived. The room was well appointed and very clean. We found the location to be in gentle walking distance of Newcastle town centre along the quayside and over millennium bridge.

Car park is secure, rooms are clean & have a kitchenette which is unusual but works. Shower is excellent as is the bed, we stayed 3 nights & slept really well. At reception there's also a store room with oven meals to purchase if you want to cook in your room, there's also a selection of cold beverages to buy. Brian the manager was the best image for customer services, chatted and showed us amazing card tricks when wishing my partner a happy birthday. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar and reception areas were clean, modern, and gave a good first impression. They are animals you can’t say it will never snap at someone. Is it really worth a child being scarred for life and a dog being put to sleep because you can’t be in anyway sensible. Dogs should be on leads, if you have no recall and you can’t be bothered to act. Your walking along and too many times you can’t actually tell who a dogs owner is because the dog is running off and the owner is still 2 minutes behind them, not in sight - that’s not being a dog owner. Sick of being told ‘it’s ok’ ‘they are friendly’ - it’s ok until it’s not ok and by then it’ll be too late and the damage will already be done. Firstly the hotel is dog friendly, all the staff made a fuss of our pooch which she loved. The rooms are very spacious, with outside areas easily accessible. Secondly, the human guests were super happy with their stay. We were feeling a bit down because we couldn't go to Spain, especially my wife. But the Delta Marriott staff could not do enough to ensure my wife enjoyed herself. They are kind, hospitable and attentive. Very cheerful and friendly. They reminded us of when true customer service was a high priority. Just to add the food is superb, and the bed was extremely comfortable. My wife managed to get comfortable and sleep even with the broken ankle. It’s in a great location — I can literally see the Metrocentre shopping mall from my window, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the river. The staff are incredibly guest-focused, and the whole place is immaculately kept. The lovely warm hospitality started upon my check-in. Shout out to Michael for his warm welcome, extremely friendly and welcoming. All his colleagues, the whole team, were really nice too. The room was a decent size, as was the bathroom - just the right size, any smaller and it would’ve been too small. The bed was fine, the mattress was fairly comfortable. The sheets were good enough. We had a good welcome from the staff and were staying in the separate hotel a minute down the road. Despite there being an intercom, you could pull the front door open as well the internal security door. The room was quite hot especially at night, the bathroom tired and the extractor fan had never been cleaned. However the room was serviced every day so thank you. Prices (like others I am sure) was hiked for the Great North Run weekend.

Fridge was not clean and you had to lift the door to get it closed , it was obviously left ajar before we arrived as it was not cold to accommodate our bottle water which we brought.A nice touch would have been to have a bottle of water in the fridge on arrival. Bathroom could have done with a good clean as a fair bit of mould at the bottom of the shower screen.Loose tiles on the floor in places . We came back from being out and the toilet was running , couldn’t get through to reception by phone my friend then trailed down to reception to report it and was told to go over to the main reception by a most unhelpful member of staff. Came back with a really lovely girl Kayleigh who managed to get the toilet fixed or we would have had to move rooms , given we were leaving the next morning we didn’t want the upheaval. Breakfast was not great , first day I had chosen from the cooked buffet and complained to the staff that the scrambled eggs were cold , given we were down at the start of breakfast that was poor. He said he let the chef know . No offer of hot replacement, next day I just had cereal and toast . My friend said that it was much the same the next day . Given we paid extra for breakfast you would expect to be able to eat it . Not sure I’d go back though it was reasonable priced and location was good . Just need to address the issues I mentioned.

Sadly it was very disappointing all-round. The three rooms we booked although together were at the furthest end of the hotel up on the top floor. No lift just stairs and each room was supplied with a small fan. Totally inadequate because being on the top floor even with the windows open and the fan on full speed the heat in the room throughout the nights stay was unbearable. We were booked into an Italian restaurant for our evening meal but before we left the hotel we asked the bar staff if they operated extended hours at the bar for residents but we were told that the bar closed at 11pm. We returned back to the hotel at 10:30pm for a final nightcap only to be told that the bar was closed as it was Sunday hours!!!! We decided to head up to one of the rooms where our friends were staying to enjoy a bottle of the on the house Prosecco. Just to confirm we are all seniors so we were somewhat shocked when a member of the security staff came to the open room door due to the heat and told us that we had to go to our own rooms. He was very aggressive in his manner. As we were going to our rooms I noticed that the main fire door next to our room was wedged open so thought I would mention that to the member of staff. He wasn't a happy chappy and then came back up the fire exit stairs towards me asking me if I was being funny. I can honestly say that I didn't find the situation funny at all but reminded him that he as a member of staff had a responsibility to all guests to keep them safe and allowing fire doors to be wedged open was a dereliction of his duty. I genuinely dont think he understood the seriousness of it so it was left to me to remove the wedge that was stopping the fire door closing. Apologies for the rambling review but I have to say over many years we have stayed at a significant number of hotels on this type of deal and sadly this has to be the worst one ever.

Sliding door didn't work (sign on the back 'ensuring door is closed as steam from shower could activate the smoke alarm'). No TV remote either. For £120 I expected far better and cannot justify the price charged. Saying that, staff were friendly and beds comfortable (so not all negative). Would I stay again? Issues can occur anywhere but I always maintain it is how they are dealt with that truly defines the company. The beds and pillows could only be described as 'sumptuous' and as a person with spinal problems this is something that is really important to me. The customer service is truly excellent - a rare thing to find these days! Issues were dealt with beyond my expectations by Mackenzie who really needs recognition for her kindness, professionalism and dedication. Morgan on reception as well as the waiter Ibrahim also deserve specific mention and could not have been more helpful. The location on the Quayside is lovely and allows for an easy walk on a level service. I would definitely stay again and check other Dakota hotels too.

The only disappointment for us was the hotel restaurant, I ordered breast of chicken which came in the shape of 2 skinny fish fingers and looked like a starter. My husband had the King Prawn curry which he said was very average and we felt it should have been much better at that price point. Unfortunately breakfast was also quite poor. We would definitely stay here again but would have our meals elsewhere.

I contacted Tom on Concierge regarding a transfer down from the train station as the weather was looking a bit uncertain. Tom arranged this and picked us up personally from the train station, a lovely warm and friendly welcome. We were an early arrival, so our room was not ready, but Reception looked after our bags and we headed out, we received an email when the room was ready. We arrived back to find a lovely luxurious room; we had booked a junior suite so had high expectations. We pushed the boat out with it being our Anniversary! Very spacious bedroom and bathroom, there was a large walk-in shower and a bath. The mini bar is complimentary in the suites but did not have a wide variety in there. When Reception called the room to ask what time we wanted turn down, I queried this and they said you don't get that in that room type which I queried again as it was advertised when booking so I had spoken to the Hotel regarding this prior to arrival. In the end we got a couple of beers, a small bottle of white and a small bottle of red. There was an excellent selection of teas and coffee including a coffee machine with pods. There was also fresh milk provided in the mini bar. Turn down was a lovely little touch. Wonderful room, highly recommend. We did not have breakfast at the Hotel or dine in the Grill so I cannot comment on those aspects. We did however use the bar, which is a lovely, chilled environment to be in, with friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. One thing I would say there was not much choice in the lager selection, it would have been nice to have more choice. Plenty of choice in wines and spirits though. The gin and tonic hit the spot! Lastly, Fiona from Housekeeping is an absolute credit to your team! We do not normally have much interaction with housekeeping, so it was a nice, pleasant change, so warm, friendly and charming. We have stayed at the one in Manchester and often frequent the one in Leeds and I can say the consistency you offer is of a high standard throughout your brand and we will continue to return to your Hotels.

The owners seem very friendly and the noise did stop around 11pm. It was clean with onsuit shower room in the small bedroom, (too small to have a kettle or any form of drink facility). There was however a communal kitchen albeit very tiny but not very clean. There was coffee & sugar in the kitchen but no milk to make yourself a drink. The beds were possibly the most comfortable that we have ever slept in. Big downfall was that the heating radiator did not work and it was -2 outside, not much warmer inside the room. We had to stay well under the duvey. We had to go out to buy a heater ourselves.
