Haigh Hall and the surrounding plantations, AKA Haigh Woodland Park are a great place for a bit of R&R. The main path through the plantations is wide and and is surfaced with tarmac making it accessible for all. It's both dog and cycle friendly with several entrances that include access from Swinley, Whelley and Haigh. As of March 2025 the main hall, a listed stately home, is currently undergoing restoration however there are many other facilities in the immediate vicinity. These include a sprawling playground for the kids, high rope adventure, mini golf, a great little bar and numerous cafes and shops. There is also a large carpark close to the facilities for those who wish to arrive by car.

Great park, lots of paths to walk with varied scenery leads to canal which you can walk and loop back round to the main park.
Saw horse riders, cyclists, runners.
The free park itself is well built with lots of challenges for the kids.
Behind it was a small forest where the kids where making lean to shelters with the downed trees and branches.
There is a paid high rope section however it's 8+
Also on site whilst visiting was a small amusement park.
There is a square of various shops from chocolate to a pizzeria, deli, cafe and farm shop. The delivery we found to be great value and not too expensive.
There are also ice cream vans dotted around if you are after a sweet treat.
Parking is paid but reasonable at 3.50 for the day.
Altogether it was a nice day out and would return.

Was disappointed to find the miniature train was all blocked off for maintenance, had all year but choose the first week of the summer holidays to do it, so, thought we'd go and look at the hall...nope, not possible as that was enveloped in a huge white screen, ok, so we went to the cafe and was charged £10 for a baked potato!! Parking is not free and you are not allowed to use a blue badge... had a little play area for kids and mini golf and Go Ape, " ornamental " pond was more like black slime and full of lily pads, totally neglected, lots of space for kids but lots of dogs off lead, so be careful, take a picnic too to save yourself some money

I've been coming to this park for several years now and honestly, I feel like it is going a bit downhill. We arrived today and the two main play frames were sectioned off for repair. The funfair had stopped even though all the kids aren't back in school until at least Thursday. The go ape climbing was shut. The little train track is NEVER running when we go. It looks like it's undergoing maintenance but never seen anyone working on it. The duck pond has blue algae in it and doesn't seem like it is being treated. The main gardens with the lovely trees have been shut now for about 2 years. No idea why! The toilets are really smelly and the soap box hasn't been fixed in at least 12 months and you could really do with putting some toilets down near the smaller wooden park as I've been caught out twice there now with my toddler who needed a number 2! Luckily had bags on me for her to do it in!
On a positive note, the cafes / shops are great. There's some woodland you can walk through which is good to explore. There's a range of play equipment suitable for all ages and 2 places you can play mini golf. Plenty of sit down spaces and picnic tables. Parking is cheap and you can spend hours there on a good day. The new flower garden is really lovely. There's a great little bird watching area and the shop on the way in is selling wild bird food for you to put on the tables.
Wigan council need to do a lot better! This is a well used park and would be so much better with access to all areas!

We had a lovely day here. The park caters for all ages. There are 2 crazy golf's, my nearly 4 yr old grandson loved his first time playing this. The staff in the crazy golf were really friendly guy's and at only £1 per person, it's well worth visiting. We went to the cafe for lunch and the staff there are also very helpful and friendly. Only 2 highchairs available that we could see but we managed to beg one off a lady who's child had finished eating and also passed ours on after we finished with it. We also visited the small funfair. Tokens only and each token cost £2.50. Only thing I don't agree with is that the parent on the rides with small children have to pay a token too. We will definitely be going back there.

My two children, 11 and 8, and I, had a brilliant time here yesterday. It was a little disappointing to find there's quite extensive renovation works going on at both the hall and along the miniature railway, and this is the reason for the 4☆ review - not that we minded the work at all, it's clear this is in the best interest of the hall and the miniature railway, but that there's no mention on the website or Facebook page (which I checked prior to our visit) and also that we didn't know the path passing the swan pond to complete the 1 mile circuit was closed as there was no signage until we got there. It didn't make our day any less enjoyable, as we followed the path around past the victorian kennels ruins (a huge hit), then followed the canal back to the car park, but those paths weren't suitable for pushchairs or scooters so families with younger children would've had to turn back. Our 1 mile walk turned in to a lovely 3 mile trail, which we finished off with a picnic, a few fairground rides (all very quiet, I expect due to the rides costing £2.50 each), and an ice cream from the van (£10 for 3). We did head over to the playground, but we found the equipment a bit too busy for us so we went back to find their favourite tree and had a bit of a climb before we left. £3.50 for the car park all day is a bargain when compared to other similar locations, particularly as there is so much going on here for children. We spent 4.5 hours here in total, but could easily have stayed all day, and we look forward to returning when the miniature railway re-opens as the kids would've loved this. It would just be nice to know before you travel what closures are in place, so you can plan your day accordingly.

Very nice , popular country park , with plenty to see and do .
I went for the adventure golf , and walk around the shops , which were all close together . The shops are quite small , with plenty of eating options .
They have several golfing options . Standard golf course , footgolf ( you kick the ball into a hole ) , adventure golf ,and a smaller/cheaper crazy golf course .
Did the adventure golf which was very popular and reasonably priced . The theming was old school charm , and even had a moving viking ship . The holes were well presented if a little worn . The playing surface was super smooth and fast , probably because it is well trodden . This made putting out tricky , as a missed putt could travel a few feet past . Also on occasion , the ball would roll out of bounds . There are two water holes , which can slow things down , if you go in the water , there are scoops available to fish the ball out . I was alright but the groups in front of me had problems . Good course , enjoyed it , might do it again sometime .
There is lots of parking , which is reasonably priced , and how no issues with the pay machines .
The park is about 15 minutes off the motorway and makes for a fun stop .

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Three Sisters Driving Experience in Wigan, and it was an absolutely exhilarating day from start to finish. As someone who enjoys high-performance vehicles, I was thrilled to take the wheel of both sports cars and a police cruiser, and the experience exceeded all expectations.

Each lap allowed me to explore the cars’ limits safely, with expert guidance from the instructors ensuring I could push myself without feeling unsafe. The handling on the track was perfect, and I was able to feel the difference between each car’s performance and character — from tight, agile cornering to raw straight-line speed.
Driving the police cruiser was a completely different, but equally thrilling experience. It offered a sense of control and familiarity while still providing enough power to feel impressive on the track. It was fascinating to see how different vehicle dynamics feel at speed, and the instructors gave useful tips on braking, acceleration, and cornering that made the experience both fun and educational.
The facilities themselves were excellent. The track at Three Sisters is well-maintained and offers a mix of straights and curves that cater perfectly to high-speed runs and technical handling. The instructors’ focus on safety while still encouraging an adrenaline-filled experience was perfect — I felt pushed, challenged, and exhilarated all at once.
Overall, my day at Three Sisters Driving Experience was nothing short of outstanding. The combination of world-class sports cars, the unique experience of driving a police cruiser, expert instructors, and a well-maintained track made it one of the most memorable driving experiences I’ve ever had. Whether you’re a car enthusiast or simply looking for an adrenaline-packed day out, I cannot recommend Three Sisters Driving Experience in Wigan highly enough. Cracking track for the little 125s and well looked after . Nice little bar, pits n paddock area was a little cramped due to so many competitors for our event , too many none race vehicles wanting to park next to friends who were racing . We were hemmed in on all sides , could only just get the bike through to the track, there is actually plenty of parking for none race vehicles, it just needed some sort of control who parked where. Apart from that one niggle it was spot on .

Took my son to three sisters race circuit, you have to pay £2 parking on your way in, there is a bar for drinks and food, my son had 6 laps in the bat mobile but for some reason only had 3, so I went and spoke to the lovely lady who signed us in and she sorted and he got to do 3 laps in a subaru which he absolutely loved driving. Was very busy there.
You get to get pictures and videos of your driving, not cheap but worth it, to keep as memories. Highly recommend.

Felt a bit ripped off here, paid for 2 experiences for my daughter, and my 10 year old grandson.
Done them before, but always had an option to buy the colision waiver, not here! You HAVE to buy it, or provide a credit card with a £5k limit on it.
So adding to the cost of the 2 vouchers was a further £70+, then a further £10 for training.
So bargain experiences, became an expensive one. They both enjoyed the well organised day and I'm glad I took my camera, to avoid the high cost of a momento. (Make sure you give the lanyards and memory card back, or there's a further £80 charge)

Excellent experience from start to finish. The only let down was the prices for photo packages as always I believe if they were more reasonable people would buy them but 54 pounds for 2 videos and photos they had a buy one photo for 19.99 but that's not encouraging seemed extreme if all of those customers brought them there photographers daily rate was more than a lawyer 😉 😀 but it didn't effect our day whatsoever son had the best time and we will 100% be back

Lots of cyclists as it is a shared space but some cyclists seem to think they have more right and go two abreast so pass very close to walkers. We saw Neil Simon’s play “The Odd Couple” last night at Wigan Little Theatre. It was an excellent production, really funny, well acted, costumes and sets were superb. This place is like stepping back in time to a bygone era... Wigan Roller Rink is one of (if not the largest) indoor skating rinks in the UK. Located within an old mill workers dining hall the rink provides a party style atmosphere where you can skate and dance to club classics and party songs.
The staff are so friendly and helpful assisting both adults and kids with their techniques so you can always get round the rink safely.
The rink includes skate hire, a cafe, bar, and a shop so you have everything you need right there.
This place just makes you feel good. Kids love the novelty of skating and adults like being kids again for a few hours.

We'll what a gem this place turned out to be... Despite the stoney and bumpy entrance to this place on part of an industrial unit it's a diamond in the rough.
We went as part of a part package and or kids haven't skated before so this was going to be interesting. I'll be honest it first impression want great, but it's clean. That said the staff are amazing and attentive. The prices more than reasonable. The atmosphere is fantastic. I watched staff serve food and beers, others skated around with those rolling and falling, to which they we're always present when needed. They were just great.
I couldn't fall to be impressed. It is what it is, it's great fun at great prices and I doubt you'll be anything less than impressed for the price!

We recently had my daughter’s birthday party at Velocity Wigan Trampoline Park. We originally booked the Clip & Climb and Trampolining package, but around 3–4 weeks before the party I received a call explaining that the Clip & Climb section was closed due to a part issue. The staff were polite and apologetic on the phone, but nothing was offered as a goodwill gesture, even something small like a free slushie for the kids would have been appreciated. Had I known about the closure earlier, I would have booked a trampoline park closer to home, but by that point it was too late to make other arrangements.
On the day, our party host was absolutely lovely, very friendly, helpful, and organised. She made sure the party room was beautifully set up, handled the cake, and even served it to the children. However, when we spoke, she mentioned that the Clip & Climb area had actually been closed all summer due to an accident, which made me question why I was able to book the Clip & Climb package at the end of summer in the first place if it had already been out of use for so long. That was quite disappointing to hear and felt misleading.
The party room itself was great, decorated nicely, and the food was fantastic, plenty of pizza, chicken nuggets, chips, donuts, ice lollies, and drinks. There was more than enough to go around, and the kids really enjoyed it.
However, I did find the main trampoline area extremely overcrowded, which made supervision difficult. While I was walking around keeping an eye on the children from our party, a few incidents occurred, one child from another group punched a girl from our party in the stomach (very well raised boys of course), and another boy repeatedly jumped on the same trampoline as my daughter, which ended up hurting her foot (all from the same party as well). None of this was seen by staff (understandably, as it was very busy), but we did report it and the staff spoke to the boys involved and of course their parents were no where in sight. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to make much difference, and the rough play continued so then I had to try keep the children at my party all together to keep them safe and continue to tell off these boys.
Despite these issues, my daughter and her friends still had a great time overall. The venue itself is fun and well-equipped, but the overcrowding, lack of proper supervision, and the misleading information about the Clip & Climb closure definitely took away from the experience. It’s a shame, because with a little more attention to safety and honesty with customers, it could have been a brilliant party.

All 4 of us had the £10 steak meal. Steak was perfectly cooked served with home made chips and salad, couldn't fault it. We followed it up with the cheese board, 2 of us had puddings & lastly 1 of us ordered the old favourite (apple pie & custard). The new owners are really nice & the atmosphere is cosy. Reasonably priced for the quality of food served. Disabled toilets available and Wigan bus station just a short walk away, brilliant for leaving the car at home and having a few drinks. The food was lovely - steak and ale pie & braised beef were both home made & the sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous. The price was reasonable too. However, this is definitely not fine dining - the vibe of the place was like a cafeteria. Simple changes could change the atmosphere - the waiting staff were dressed in leggings & trainers - black skirt/trousers & white or black blouse/shirt are the norm in the hospitality world, especially for evening dining. Been a few times, this time there were new faces serving, the Italian style has vanished and replaced by a.n.other. A restaurant is a place of high quality cleanliness especially as there is food being served. Waiters should have aprons, that way spills and marks to shirts won't occur or seen. Although the service was fast and efficient, appearances of the main waiter needs a little more care and attention.
Food as always was very nice and well presented. Average prices support these ample sized dishes so unless you are picky, you'll have a reasonable choice to make with the selection on the menu.

I contacted by email about a week later and the issue was resolved easily and quickly.
Always measure a business not by their mistakes (because they do happen) but how they rectify them.

I was passing Wigan on the M6 and decided to pop into town for lunch. Came across the museum by accident and what a delightful place it is. The building itself is beautiful inside and out and the displays are excellent. Everything from the Egyptians to life (the good old days) of living in and around Wigan and the UK itself. I especially loved the upstairs and the reference centre that would not look out of place at a top uni or college. The staff here have done an amazing job and the people of Wigan should be proud of this little museum with a big personality. Above all it is entirely free to mooch around for hours.

With time on my hands in Wigan for a morning, I sought out the only museum listed in the town centre (the excellent Wigan pier museum from my childhood is no more apparently) so I followed maps and discovered the low key entrance on a side road.
First off, it is small. If you're hoping to kill a few hours here, heck an hour, you'll probably be disappointed (unless you're researching family history/genealogy in the excellent library part). In a room the size of a standard McDonald's, over half of the display space is given over to Wigan musical heritage, particularly Northern soul. If you are a fan, and Wigan Casino is/was your mecca, then you will find a lot of material and exhibits here to bring back memories. It is a fascinating peep into this facet of the local story. The rest of the small space quickly runs through several other subjects, Egypt - fascinating but brief, the civil war (which I found interesting) and feels all to brief and rushed as an afterthought to the northern soul.
The staff are warm and friendly, knowledgeable and are probably the best thing about the museum.
If you have half an hour to spare or if you are a fan of Northern soul, definitely pop in.

Orrell Water Park is a lovely little spot that’s perfect for a peaceful walk or a bit of outdoor time with family. The park itself is well-kept, with two fishing lakes, ducks to watch, and a nice flat path that makes for an easy stroll. It’s quiet, clean, and feels like a bit of countryside tucked into the town.
We usually do a longer route from the water park up to Billinge Hill, and it’s a brilliant walk. The trail takes you through a mix of woodland, fields, and country lanes, with plenty of scenic views along the way. Once you reach the top of Billinge Hill, the view is amazing — you can see right across to Winter Hill, and even the Welsh hills on a clear day.
It’s a great route for getting out in nature without needing to travel far. Definitely recommend it for walkers of all levels — just wear decent footwear if it's been raining, as it can get muddy in parts.

Loved this place, we've never been before and it's right on our doorstep.
We bought ice creams from the cafe as my grandson wanted one, they were so good.
We picked some BlackBerries and cooking apples from the hidden orchard and I made a pie the day after.
There a park there also which my grandson enjoyed.
The lake is lovely, you can buy a bag of seed from the cafe for £1 to feed the ducks on the lake.

My daughter accidentally booked the wrong time slot online. I tried to call them to change it but the calls were diverted to voicemail saying they were closed when they were actually open. I called about 5 times and left 2 voicemails. In the end I purchased an additional slot for the right time. The manager, Jen, was rude, obnoxious, arrogant and continuously spoke over me, she would not listen to what I wanted to discuss with her and couldn't have been any more unhelpful. How can you manage a venue like that when you have absolutely zero customer service or even social skills.
I emailed them and, to date, I have not had a reply from Adrian, the owner or any of his staff.
I hope the money they have stolen from me goes towards some staff training because it's very much needed.
Would NOT recommend you spend your money with this shambles of a company.

Easter holidays & keeping my 5 year old boy entertained i came across a post on Facebook for ninja warriors decided to give it a try, so after a few attempts on line to book not excepting payment I rang venue spoke with a lovely woman who sent me link via email still not working rang back spoke to a pleasant male member of staff explained situation and previous call who very kindly booked places so not to lose them and told me to pay on arrival all this went to plan and was hassle free on the day.
The venue was busy as expected in school holidays but very organized, lots of staff members constantly watching the children and checking around all the inflatables. The venue isn't massive but very well planned out which maximizes the space. There is a Cafe on site for food and drinks we didn't eat on this occasion but drinks were the price you would expect to pay and not very over price like some venues, my boy loved it and spent the 2 hour slot enjoying himself and didn't want to leave overall this is a great place I would recommend and will definitely visit again.

Come here quite alot in the week as the cafe run by volunteers is only open weekdays till about 2pm. The cafe is run by very friendly staff and is part of a way for young adults with additional needs to gain skills and experience by helping with different around the cafe and site. The walks around the Three Sisters is always a nice one away from the roads. Came with a coach party for a 3-hour lunch cruise from Wigan Pier to Crooke and back aboard the "Elleswake", and had a really enjoyable afternoon! Steve and his crew made us very welcome, and they could not do enough for us. They were very helpful when we were boarding, and there's a lift on to the boat for anyone with limited mobility. The "Elleswake" is wide and spacious. It was very clean and nicely decorated, with flowers on the tables and cushions for extra comfort. There's a toilet at the back of the boat. Our lunchboxes were already waiting for us on the tables. Mine had three small sandwiches, pretzels, a sausage roll, a lovely scone with jam and cream, and a piece of chocolate cake. The sandwiches were really fresh. We could get tea and coffee at the bar as well as alcoholic drinks. Great selection of cocktails (had the passion fruit Martini). The cruise itself was a relaxing experience, gliding past a gentle landscape of fields, woods, and lots of wildflowers growing along the canal banks, and passing through two locks. We were able to move around the boat and take photos if we wished. Sandy was the perfect hostess, very kind, enthusiastic and friendly. On the way back to Wigan Pier, she gave us an informative and entertaining talk about life on the canal and its history, with some funny anecdotes thrown in, and interesting artefacts from Wigan's industrial past for us to look at. An enjoyable cruise that I would happily recommend!

Called up to get technical support for my pump and filter. Spoke to a lady who said they do not provide technical support over the phone. She then said refer to manuals online. I have already checked the manual and does not contain the issue which I am reporting hence I why I’m calling up.
She then says to me go back to the shop you brought the item from.
Why is this lady working at this company when she does not know anything about the products in the first place.
Rubbish customer services. They have no idea what their own products are. I even said I have a serial number and she then goes and says that is no use to them.
Would not recommend this company or any of their products. When purchasing items, they are friendly. When asking for technical support, non exist.

I want to say how pleased and impressed we are with the new Tempest filters they are so easy to use.
I am able to clean them even whilst wearing my good sute, this system is so good and is well named. with the inrush of air agitating the media in the filter, tempest accurately describes what is seen when doing a cleaning process.

After we do a cleaning process, I increase the power of the pump which rapidly clears any air block in the system after which I am able to reduce power to a minimum importantly reducing the consumption of electricity and providing sufficient movement of water to allow the uv filter to do its work
At this power setting an adequate volume of water is passed to our two spillways providing a pleasing overall effect

Took my 5 year old daughter to watch the warriors v rhinos game last night. We had an amazing night, the staff were really friendly and so were the home fans.
Brilliant stadium, we could see all the action from our seat, the pyrotechnic show was a nice touch! Loving the futuristic style floodlights and the laser show!
We felt very safe here, food and drink was reasonable in price for a sporting event and entry/exit to the stadium was really easy and straightforward.

I visited the area with family a few weekends ago with the plan of a nice family walk and talk get-together. This is a lovely walk. Not suitable for tots or buggies. I normally prefer a loop walk but this was lovely. There is plenty of shade and cover from the elements of needed to keep you cool and dry. A few post fences to step over, includes forest, open fields and river sections with a turning point in a quaint spot for some refreshments and a comfort break. Whole walk takes about 2 hours at a steady comfortable pace.

No specific parking we could find apart from in a nearby lay by next to the coffee and cake van. Probably wouldn't be great if you have accessibility needs due to steps throughout. I would give a 0 star rating if possible after the visit I have just had. Firstly, my boyfriend purchased a “managers special” for £45 and had the exact same games as myself who paid £21. This was very frustrating and we felt as though we had been scammed. The lady calling the bingo was extremely rude when telling people to press the claim button, manners cost nothing. She also kept telling people to “shh” - very rude. And to top the visit staff were handing out free bags of chocolate and completely missed my table out, we was the only table to be missed and this made us feel very singled out and frustrated. If I could give 0 star I would. I've brought 2 hot tubs in less than 2 years, last one was 2 weeks over 6 months old had 12months warranty but won't replace/refund unless I pay for independent VAT report to state it's not our fault why water coming out vent holes and E3 & E5.
It's been sent to main manufacturers to try getting repaired they can't repair over 5 months of them sending broken units out to us fobbing us off they told us they would send us the VAT report with a full breakdown..then I'm told they will no longer help as the don't help with RIO hot tubs anymore and haven't for months..yet have been apparently fixing ours..

I'm told it's got to go in writing.. however it's now past the 12 month guarantee as it's been going on so long so I know we won't get anything back once again..

Wouldn't bother. Rude woman at the checkout. Both items I went to purchase were the wrong price I questioned it and she was beyond rude, grunting and scowling at me and then started to kick off to the staff next to her that customers were not queuing properly. I said forget it, my custom is better elsewhere...she continued grunting and pulling her face because she had to put the items back...maybe next time check your prices. Anyway I went home bargains got what I wanted for half the pricer in a much cleaner shop and very very nice staff.

Visited the Range SOT this afternoon, arriving at the till there was a queue filling the waiting aisle whilst 2 checkouts where manned. 4 members of staff where hovering around the service desk, i asked if it was possible to pay for my 1 item there. I was told i had to queue. One of the 4 at the service desk put out an obviously overdue tannoy for all staff to checkouts. Nobody responded to this call. Eventually 1 of the 4 went & manned another checkout. I asked to speak to the manager & was asked which one, i replied the one in charge & why were they not assisting the checkouts. The reply was they are short staffed & management are not able to work checkouts they are security. One had stood hands in pockets for the entire time & had even wandered outside with another member of staff whilst the people had waited to be served. In my experience managers are there to manage not stand around chatting with a total disregard to the customers. Unacceptable service

A huge store with an impressive amount of stock of pretty much everything you need to decorate and fill your home. Goods are all on ground floor wide uncluttered aisles. Also a large 'Iceland food section inside. You could spend hours maybe all day there. Large carpark but strangely - limited time - i think its 2 hours - so be careful about overstaying as you will be fined. I cant imagine anyone wanting to park their car there and leaving it for hours as theres nowhere else nearby to walk to or shop at or work at. Located just off the A500 its easy to get to. I heard that 'The Range' has bought some of the properties that were 'Homebase' which closed ALL of its stores some months ago

When my children were babies i used to walk past the patch of land that is now the play patch. It was over grown and closed and I always thought that would be such a great place for a park so close and something for the children to go to. It’s now even better than I even imagined it to be. My girls have not managed to go very much due to being older now but it would have perfect for when they were younger somewhere clean and safe and fun for us to go to. When we have gone everyone was so friendly annd welcoming and my children loved it. Thank you for creating such a fab place for our community :)

Th is is the most perfect little place. We have been a quite few times with my children and yesterday had our son’s birthday party there. Carrie is so helpful, the whole patch is perfectly clean, there is so much for the children to do and most importantly it’s safe. It’s enclosed and you can see your children at all times. My son has additional needs and for sensory seekers, children who prefer outdoor spaces, children who struggle with noise etc, it’s perfect. What a hidden little treasure this place is.
Took our daughter along to the patch, a few weeks ago, to one of the sessions. She literally had the best time of her life. She loved it that much, we went straight onto the Facebook page to book her 1st birthday party.
The girls took care of everything… we could literally just turn up and enjoy spending that time and making memories with our daughter.
It’s a very clean and well looked after area. And they have thought of everything to keep the little ones entertained. Every guest who came along to the party was saying how good it was, and how much their child had a great time. They was all saying they had never heard of the patch before, and was so glad to be introduced to it, and they would definitely be going back.
