We arrived at 2:30pm with our 2 young children and waited at the bar for 10-15 minutes to be seated for a meal, no staff were around. Once Michelle came out we didn’t receive a warm welcome or an apology for the wait. We had friends meeting us so she pushed 2 round tables together for us to sit down together which was fine. We were then sat down and ignored for another 15 minutes - we weren’t given menus or asked if we wanted any drinks. Our kids were getting restless after waiting half an hour, So I helped myself to the menus and went back up to the bar to order as no luck being served at our table. I was told a bday party had come in without booking so they had been busy but still no apology for lack of table service. I ordered our drinks and meals and headed back to our table and put our menus back. The food came out which was all really delicious and was served by a friendly young lad. Our friends arrived and received a warm welcome, hugs, smiles and lots of chat throughout the afternoon which seemed to highlight how differently we were treated. On the way home our friends asked how much our bill was and I realised we had been overcharged for the kids drinks which should have been free with their meals during the half term promotion. A small error but just another thing which added to the bad experience. We have visited loads of times and had great service before but unfortunately we won’t be returning in a hurry, a real shame as the food is great.

However, the rooftop terrace experience was a bit of a letdown. We visited during the Ibiza Sunday event and noticed the flooring hadn't been swept, with litter and bottle tops scattered around. The ski theme also felt out of place for a pub in Bexleyheath. I think there are missed opportunities with the rooftop decor. On a hot day, it's incredibly humid and scorching up there. Some fans or cooling blowers would greatly improve the comfort. A DJ would also enhance the atmosphere, giving a better ibiza music feel, and it was disappointing that the roof terrace bar was closed, which detracted from the overall experience. Overall, top marks for the food and service! Just a few improvements are needed for the rooftop terrace to make it truly shine.

On a hot Summer's day this was a great location to be, right in the centre of a park sat outside with food and many four legged friends. We only had a sandwich and a couple of drinks, but the sandwich was really nice. The nicest part about this pub are the customers and staff as everyone is very friendly, and interacting with so many dogs and their owners is the cherry on top of the cake for the great time anyone will have. Had phoned ahead to check this time round they has steak, as when previously visited they didn’t. Fair enough we ordered 4 steaks however 30mins later we were informed there was only 1. Very disappointing, fair enough they had run out but the tills ideally should be up today with the stock and you would want to be told in 5mins not 30mins! After changing 3 peoples orders, one was for ham egg and chips and one was fish and chips with bread and butter. We were told they couldn’t give us a time on how long the food would be, but didn’t expect to wait 50mins! And if you didn’t know the wait time then maybe an inclining of time would have been helpful if it was to be over 30mins. So when waiting for all that time, the eggs were not runny, and the bread and butter for the fish and chips meal we had to get this from the bar and the butter was placed on the bread like the photo, unbelievable was totally un spreadable. Of course we got a refund for the difference but there was just no offer of any goodwill whatsover apart from serving us an extra bowl of chips as each plate looked to have a lack of chips. May be ok for drinks, but I just wouldn’t risk having a meal here due to timings and lack of service.

We had a Groupon for the Tomahawk Steak, 2 Fries and 2 cocktails. We also ordered some starters of which the calamari was lovely but I wouldn’t go near the tempura prawn again, it had a weird texture. She just nodded. But no mention of she'll get me some wipes. When we'd finished starters, I went to the bar for more drinks, and said I think the kitchen must've got confused as they gave me wings with bones. She said "sorry about that". I didn't send them back at the time as I just tucked in and didn't want hubby to finish his nachos while waiting for fresh wings. Difficult to work out how many stars to give - certainly not 5, but stars for food quality only. We arrived just gone 11am, just after opening. First thing we noticed was the really sticky bar - as we were the 1st customers, we found that a bit odd. Sat outside and opted for a bench as we noticed some of the chairs were in need of a clean. Not to be put off by these couple of oversights, we ordered our food. I went to the bar to order, but felt awkward as I had just disturbed the bar person as she was sat at a table having a bite to eat and drink. I ordered boneless chicken wings plus nachos for starters. Followed by XL mixed grill skillet and hunters chicken skillet. I did ask the server what the hunters chicken was like, and she pulled a face and said it wouldn't be her choice! The food arrived and straight away I noticed the chicken wings were not boneless - but I figured I'd eat them anyway. We weren't given napkins so I had to go inside and grab a handful. Also no finger bowl provided - which should be a must when serving finger food. The nachos were cold at the bottom of the bowl but tasted OK. The mains arrived on small white oval plates - not skillets as described in the menu and not sizzling! In fact the XL mixed grill arrived on the same size plate as the hunters chicken - so not completely convinced it was XL. Presentation was very disappointing but the food did taste really good, except for the peas which were on the dry side. The steak, chicken and gammon were cooked to perfection - really very tasty. It took an age for the finished plates to be removed, attracting flies, so we moved them across to another table. I mean overall, we went for a meal and we were happy with the main courses. But the things mentioned above make me think that more attention to detail wouldn't go amiss - especially when the bar isn't busy! The staff should eat before shifts start, that way they could be cleaning the bar in quiet periods. Staff should also sing the praises of the menu and not grimace when asked. Finger bowls and napkins should be provided with finger food. If you advertise a sizzling skillet, you should serve a sizzling skillet.

We have been coming here for years and the food and service is always great. It can get very busy as it is a very popular pub which can cause some waiting times but it is never unbearable and is always handled to the best of their ability. This was our first visit since being refurbished. The pub was very busy but we still managed to find a table. The staff on duty were fantastic, happy, smiling, nothing too much trouble and great attention to detail. The food was gorgeous and probably one of the best pub meals I’ve ever had. Portion size was a little bit big but the quality of the food was fantastic. No corners cut here. Definitely well worth a visit and we will be returning soon.

We also came here for a roast just to be told they had run out of roast potatoes, first time experiencing that 🤣 We refused the starters in the end and sent it back as we had ordeered sides also with the mains. The waitress was rude and when refunding us the cash for the starters, she pretty much slammed the money down on the table and did not appear at all interested in our complaint as if we were the inconvenience? Me and my wife had a steak, bad choice that was!! Fatty and grisly, my wife had to spit the meat out into a tissue!! I wrote an email feedback on this very poor experience just to receive the usual textbook response "we are very sorry for your experience" blar blar blar!!! Funny how they are never willing to offer a refund of not even some token gesture with a discount refund, even if it was just 20%. Including drinks, we spent at least £150 in this for poorly run pub restaurant. And whilst we were there, there were another couple suffering the same experience who we ended up having a joke with 😆 Take my word for it people stay away, you will regret spending money here!! I went yesterday for my birthday and instantly when I walked in I could smell lovely food. The blonde haired waitress was very attentive and lovely. Starters were very yummy, we went for the prawns, muscles, Algerian sausage and some other bits. The sauce for each dish was fantastic, great size and came out very quickly. Consists of three rooms knocked together to form long, wide L-shape room that is nicely decorated and furnished, with plenty of clear floor space in middle part. Sat in area at short end of the L. Furniture there comprises two low tables and two high tables, which is probably too much. Because area also gives access to toilets and beer garden. Resulting traffic made it feel cramped, esp for those sitting nearest the back. So, stayed at bar in the middle room on second visit. Karaoke with Debbie on a Thursday night excellent, EVERY THURSDAY 8PM - 11.30 PM. She has a great-sounding system with no glitches (such as out of sync or frozen lyrics) and you just give her your name then tell her what song you want when you're called up. Works a treat, super efficient, fast and no one misses their turn. There is a pay and display car park with space for twenty-five or so cars out the back. *A £100 penalty will be claimed by well known parking sharks Britannia Parking in event of any transgression!* But the parking ticket price can be refunded towards drinks at the bar, on production of the counterfoil. Note that lighting is poor in the car park and it's deserted at night. *The only real negative - another customer (a karaoke regular, so I was told - so you might be safe on nights other than Thursday) who often accosts the DJ and other customers. Dogs are allowed and there is air con. Unfortunately the quality of food is poor. We ordered a steak pie and fish & chips. The pie was poorly cooked and the pastry was soggy. We were celebrating a Birthday (30+), had a table booked all names were provided. We reached the entrance to find a couple of unapproachable bouncers who demanded to see our ID's, we did as demanded. One bouncer had never come across suede boots, he thought they were trainers, yeah I thought it was a joke too. After a lengthy debate we were told that they would let us in- 'only this time'. We found the funny side as this venue was below the standards of what we are familiar with in London. We enter to have our ID's checked again, however our bags were not checked (apparently its all about the shoes) as long as your shoes are made from leather you can go in with a bottle of vodka in your bag- or even a lethal weapon- you'll get in fine. Staff were ok- they seemed as if they didn't want to be there and I don't blame them, the music was mediocre. The smoke was unnecessary but I guess it is a good way to hide the venues imperfections. The smoking area was reasonably clean, guess some of the clientele failed to see the ash trays on display and decided to ash on the seats. The best part of the venue was the bubbly attendant in the ladies- she deserved a £5 tip, she should give the staff a lesson on providing good customer service. The small mentality and staff (bouncers) attitude is a great disappointment. Overall impression- avoid, don't waste your money.

Proper old-school pub feel with loads of character. The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home straight away. Drinks are well priced, with a good selection (including cocktails), and the food hit the spot – classic pub grub done right. There was a good mix of people, and the vibe was chilled but lively. Nice outdoor space if the weather’s decent. All in all, just a great local pub – perfect for a catch-up with mates or a relaxed night out. Will definitely be back!

It ticks every single box. The building itself is 600+ years old and is like sitting in a slice of history. The ambience and atmosphere there is amazing! The staff are simply wonderful too! Since lockdown rules allowed, I've been going there several times a week and the current roster of staff is the best the Lion has ever had! Natalie and Louise G most often serve me and I couldn't want for a friendlier, warmer pair, such excellent service! I've also really appreciated all the other staff too including Gemma, Theresa, Louise F, Taylor, Rory etc etc, there's not a bad apple amongst them. The food is also exceptional at really good value.
