The chicken wasn't even seasoned before it was cooked which was weird. $100 for an order that was an hour late and had multiple issues is not what I was looking for from a neighborhood restaurant. Called and asked for the owner after we noticed the food issues and she was too busy to come to the phone and was told I would get a call back. Two days now and no call. The extra frustrating part is that during my hour wait, she had plenty of time to come out to say hi to someone that requested her presence. That was around the 40 min mark and not once did she even look over or apologize for the wait.

I don't think there was any focaccia and no dinner rolls. The sweet breads (pumpkin and apple fritter) came out over an hour later than dinner. Other patrons were complaining very loudly. I chose to write this review instead. I am so sad that my first thanksgiving dinner dining out with my kids, after over a year being across the state, was a far cry from a family holiday dinner. We heard great reviews from friends. Thought we would stop for a bite. We are a family of five. It was busy even though it was past prime lunch time, which is always a good sign. I ordered the calzone lunch special. My Wife ordered the fettuccine Alfredo. Our Waitress, Jeanine, I think, had been a waitress for a while and you could tell. So was amazing at her job. She brought us a nice bread with a fabulous garlic butter and some Parmesan cheese. She took her lunch off the bill and gave us a thing of bread and garlic butter to take home. Based on the calzone, the service and how they handled her lunch, we will be going back. But getting into the restaurant there was no one to get me seated, the bar was entirely dirty with open chairs but food left all over. (Downstairs) We made an earlier reservation and glad we did since it became busier after 5 on a Saturday. Also seemed to center around an older crowd. Our server was knowledgeable but not very friendly, and it worsened as things got busier while at the same time putting on the charm with the table beside us with first name familiarity… Still, the food was exceptional and a level up from our other favorite restaurant. I called in and asked if they could seat one as online it states reservation only. They said I could be seated in the bar area. When I arrived they sat me at a very nice booth. Understandably it was noisy in this area as people are dining in this area and enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail. However, when my main was delivered, I pointed out that the two round lumps under the cheese look like meatballs but my waitress assured me that it was sausage. She did deliver one 3" link of sausage after I had mostly finished my pasta. The traditional sauce was pretty bland and the pasta had not been properly drained, so there was water at the bottom of the bowl preventing sauce from sticking to the pasta. They can definitely handle large parties at this location. As we was seated we saw other large parties so it seems normal for people to have large parties here. The food was average, I had the chicken riggies. The pasta and the sauce was really good but the chicken was very dry. I was told the chicken was grilled which is probably why it was dry. I feel how ever you choose to cook your chicken make sure it’s not dry. I only had one bite of the chicken and gave the rest away to my sister to take home. My sister had steak which was really tender. The steak was really good but I just didn’t like the gravy, my sister agreed she didn’t really like the gravy either but the steak was really good. Someone else at the table had the fried calamari which I was able to try and I enjoyed that. We had the fritas mozzarella things as an appetizer and they weren’t the best. Mozzarella sticks are one of my favorite things to eat so I was shocked I didn’t enjoy those. Maybe some adjustments to a few things would make the food experience better. I would not chose to go back here on my on but if I had to go to another party at this place I would. I would try to order something different to see if I just prefer a different dish then what I chose before. I still had fun spending time with family atmosphere was cool and it wasn’t too loud.

My wife ordered the marsala steak which came with two small cuts of meat smothered in Marsala gravy and angel hair pasta on the side with a glass of red wine. She also ordered a bowl of their chicken and meat ball soup (I forgot the official name from the menu) to try something new. Everything was amazing. The steaks were cooked to order and seared perfectly. The soup was also really good and hearty. The pasta side dishes were good, even though my ribeye came out with angel hair pasta instead of penne with red sauce as shown on the menu. It was still good though and I didn't mind. And the potato may have been a little over cooked (starchy) but it was still good. The atmosphere was nice; maybe a little loud as we were seated next to a large party celebrating a birthday but it wasnt bad. We still enjoyed our experience and would come again. I’ve been trying to find an excuse to come here since they opened since their Instagram posts are outstanding! We went on a quiet night for our anniversary and they couldn’t have been more attentive and timely. You’ll see in my review that the food was not up to par, but DO VISIT THIS PLACE FOR GOOD VIBES, DRINKS AND SERVICE!! They have a whole separate martini menu and a fabulous selection of wines by the glass and bottle. It is an a very odd spot in between a Ruby Tuesday’s and Courtyard by Marriott. I hope to come back for drinks even though it is out of the way, but not for food. Unfortunately, the food was not good especially for the price. The pasta was handmade (nice touch!) but very very undercooked, and I love Al dente pasta, but you can tell that this pasta was cooked for maybe 2-3 minutes max. Which was a shame because the pasta sauces were SO GOOD!! I LOVED the arrabbiata and they made a beautiful traditional basil pesto. Then I had the ribeye and asked for it medium-rare. *sigh* It was well-done and I could taste the ashes from the grill they used (not the good kind of char). I felt so so bad sending it back, but our waitress was very kind about it. When I received a new plate, it came back very rare and unseasoned. Fortunately that did taste better even though it wasn’t what I asked for. So I was content with that since the turn around was quick!! Then my partner got the veal chop, good but nothing special unfortunately. Then he also got a cappuccino and it was.. meh. It was all disappointing considering Lala Lu is advertised as an Italian restaurant with primi secondi plates and the quality was well below average. I do love the smaller portion sizes, but not worth the price. I hope that I just visited on an off night since it wasn’t a weekend night, but I’m not sure I’m willing to try the food again.
