A large communal dining table meant we shared the whole evening with other fellow diners where you are all served the seven courses at the same time. The food was delicious, all locally sourced and the best of the best of Scottish food! Looked nice from the outside. Typical older style pub, wasn't too busy as it was a lovely day. Table was a bit dirty, didn't have a table for 5 just pulled an extra chair up. The full 90 minutes we were there the table next to us wasn't cleared or cleaned. Served one the wrong starter for 1 person haggis pakora instead of chicken, macaroni had nice flavour but was quite dry, pizza was ok, salad was lovely, broccoli and Stilton soup was really nice. Also had the smoked salmon with salad and the oat cakes with butter so I'm glad I went to support this wee Scottish business located between lovely Callander and stunning scenery. We went through the usual long run up to the wedding, and were in close contact with Sue throughout the period. The venue looked stunning at the side of the loch, and our photos reflected that. The food was really good (from the little I got to try with how busy we were) and everyone said they loved it. We also rented the venue for the day after the wedding for organised watersports due to its slipway and parking. It was perfect for this purpose, and allowed our wedding guests to get together to talk about the wedding after the big day. Cannot recommend Venachar Lochside highly enough, all the staff were really helpful, with Sue being amazing, the venue being beautiful, and the food being perfect and tasty for our big day.

The chef came to us to tell the menu (I requested a paper option, wanted to see the prices, but he said they didn't have one) for the night was, we were given options from 2 dishes, all fire roasted. He was recommending the chicken dish and since one of my friends was a vegetarian we chose the vegetarian option for him. We had to wait around an hour for the food to actually come and by that time I was wondering whether I should even eat due to how late it was getting... When the food came I changed my mind, it was one of the smallest portions I've seen! There was a few vegetables, some cheese and a small piece of chicken wrapped in ham. The meal was amazing, and the service was generally very good. Most of the staff were fantastic, but one did seem to have an attitude on her which let the side down a bit. We booked a table at the Indian restaurant Desh in Callander. It was very enjoyable! We both thoroughly enjoyed the food. My husband enjoys very spicy food and loved the Pickled Lime dip that came with poppadoms, it was something he hadn't had before as well. Staff very attentive, restaurant had a nice layout too and nice atmosphere. Our mains were delicious,mine was a quite a bit milder which I specified at ordering. Nothing was too much trouble. Decent prices. Small and large Fish suppers were really good value. Odd things like deep fried pizza and Mars Bars etc but something for everyone. Chips ok, Fish was nice size for the money but for the curry sauce and peas, the portion was on the small side. After feedback they are looking into this so should be better in the future. Callander is beautiful and it is well worth having a sit down Fish and Chips or a takeaway from here if you are visiting or passing. The chips were very well cooked and not greasy. The haddock was fresh and tasty, the batter was crispy.
