We were welcomed with a big cheery hello and promptly seated, the staff gave great recommendations to help us choose from the menu. Great drinks choice and the draught beer like uk is fantastic! We had lamb shank and sausage and mash and the food was fantastic, we then had crumble and cheesecake and again, couldn’t fault anything! Service was top notch and food was mostly really good. I had a couple of moans about my dishes but not enough to take a star away. I started with the crab bhaji and my husband had the scallops. Both beautifully presented. The scallops were perfect but my bhaji was over cooked so a bit too crispy and no real taste of crab. However the accompaniments were excellent. Then for mains, my husband had the lamp rump which was exceptionally good and I had the aubergine parmigiana. This is one of my favourite dishes and I always have it if I see it on a menu. Unfortunately, it was mainly courgette and the aubergine was a little too al dente for my taste. I prefer when the aubergine is cooked to a buttery softness and melts with the cheese. I had dithered over having the lamb myself and would have chosen something different if we returned. We were planning on doing so tonight but they are closed on Tuesdays. Despite my small complaints about my dishes, it is an excellent restaurant and as a keen cook myself, I know that sometimes dishes just don't turn out perfectly. On the whole, 5 stars for Service, presentation, atmosphere and food. Just to finish, we both had a mini dessert with coffee which were both perfect in size, taste and presentation.

I ate the starter then waited another half hour for main course. When my gluten free venison came out it was with black pudding. Absolutely fed up by this point, the time the food took to come out then giving me food with gluten. We then said enough is enough and said we were leaving, we were told would only need to pay for our starters and drinks we wouldn't be charged for the main course, we then paid our bill including the drinks we left on the table!! Really need appropriate training on food allergies and step up the service, just hoping the starter was definitely gluten fee!

Little hidden gem I think I read somewhere and it's true. Lighting and mood was lovely. The place looks beautiful and cozy . The staff were fantastic, attentive but not over the top in any way. The food was the best I have had in a long time! It was hot , clearly made from scratch and with fresh produce. The menu is forever changing so when I looked it up I found the wrong one .. but that's just because I'm a picky eater, the choice when we were in was brilliant. Price - I will not complain was worth every penny, however the card machine didn't seem to have a tip option so if that's something you like to do carry cash. When we went to order drinks, we were then told that children were not allowed in that area, leaving us no option but to leave. Scottish licensing laws do not automatically prohibit children from being seated at a table near a bar—only from sitting directly at the bar—so this rule seemed unnecessarily strict, especially as we were already seated away from the bar itself. If you have more strict rules in place for where children can sit this should have been explained on the phone previously when I was asking about bringing children. All of this could have been avoided had the information been clearly explained when I called.The way it was communicated felt hostile and unhelpful. Looking at other reviews, it seems this negative attitude from staff isn’t uncommon. It’s such a shame as we have enjoyed this pub perviously and couldn’t have faulted it other than the way we were treated.

My husband and I came in yesterday for lunch and were just blown away. We're not from Linlithgow, but we felt leaving like we had been part of the town for years. We truly had an exceptional experience in here, and for a couple of people from the far North, we absolutely will return to Linlithgow when next in the Central Belt. This restuarant has always been one of my favourite Indian restaurants. Unfortunately the meal on Wednesday evening was very disappointing. I ordered a chicken and Lamb dish. Met by nice friendit staff who took our order and served us in a nice timely fashion which couldn't have been easy as there was 20 of us there. The food was excellent and the generous portions went down a treat. Great atmosphere probably caused by bring your own bottle house rules which certainly added to the banter. Well done to all the staff to contributing to a really good night out. Fabulous night out and would throughly recommend the Ashmaan for a good night out.

Lamb chops, chapatis, sag aloo and an accompanying sauce were all recommended by Rehman, the waiter who drew me in. I’m glad he did both as it’s probably the tastiest meal I’ve had in some time. I wish I could get that sauce recipe, can’t quite pin it down and I know I’ll struggle to replicate it. Chapatis freshly cooked, sag aloo not just a side show but a key player, lamb was prolific, tasty, tender, sat on mouth watering charred onions and peppers. Isn’t that enough? Outside doesn’t do this place justice. Their outside tables and chairs are a bit worn and the view of Tesco’s isn’t the best but they had flower boxes out. The inside does look very welcoming but tonight it was just too hot. I hope to return.

Ordered the Seekh Kebab starter and then Karahi and Garlic Chilli chicken Currys with rice and two nan breads. All the food was fantastic with great flavour and could have ate more. Much more !!!! We ordered baked potato, halloumi salad and truffle fries but except for truffle fries nothing was good. We had baked potato with cheese to start with and then when we asked about cheese we got served with cheese on top while it should have been on the hot baked potato so it could melt. Then they took it back and warmed it up so that the cheese melts, absolutely horrible service. No apologies nothing and they didn’t do anything to rectify the situation. Avoid it.

The only thing that’s not good, is the location of the till, it’s right next to the cakes. You can’t pay your bill without grabbing a couple of cakes to go!! Will I be back? The staff are lovely and friendly. There is on curb off road parking but it's usually full so might need to park next to the post office and walk. I only got the fish (as that is what I would rate the most). The fish itself was nice, not amazing, just nice. However the batter was soggy thick and not crispy at all. The batter had soaked up a lot of oil and I ended up peeling the batter off it was just too soggy and oily. A sure sign that the oil is simply not hot enough when cooking. I'm not sure if I was unlucky or if it was a one off but the oil tasted like something sweet was cooked in it. Again if the oil was hot enough that would not have happened. All in all a nice place that might do other dishes nicely but there are other places in linlithgow that do a nicer battered fish.

There was also a female chef who was very smiley and it really was lovely to see and be on the receiving end of such high levels of customer service. Now the food, as glorious as ever!!! Usually if you order a salad you are left regretting the choice as you feel fobbed off at the price versus the portion, but not here. It was ample in size and deliciously flavourful, nachos and dessert went down a treat too. Will be back and continue to recommend
