Our family of 4 spent 1 night at Highbury Colombo in mid March and were blown away by the beauty of the property and the hospitality of our hosts Manoji and Manitha. We spent most of the morning delighting in the inside/outside style of the house and the abundance of plants created the feeling of being in a more remote location than urban Colombo. Quite cute in a way, but also slightly odd as the public spaces felt inaccessible. When after checking out I was walking out with luggage to meet my driver who was already waiting, management asked me if I switched AC in my room. I wasn't sure and they asked me to go back to check. I found the dynamics of this request inappropriate and it left a bit of bad taste. To summarie. Beautiful place in a lovely area, but little weird dynamics and poor service. Made the payment early Hoping to reserve a good table , Some one called Kavindya (table reservations) took the booking. Called her few times requesting for a menu (for few of my foreign friends) she never got back to me.. We managed to arrive on the venue around 7:15pm again to grab a good spot & 98% of the tables were empty, she said there was a change of tables, and she took us & ask us to sit in a corner table so far away from the stage. Like on the last row, when we asked for a table near by she said “All the tables are reserved! & if you want she can refund the money” I asked for her manager & a lady call Natasha clams to be the manager came & said the same.. they couldn’t explain when I asked them on what basis you reserved the other tables. I argued with her saying if there is a table resavation or a table number why didn’t take responsibility to mention it on the ticket it self when we make the booking. It’s very disappointing to see how these women (your staff, so called managers ) act to ruin the good will of this international hotel, they make Favourations for people they know & treat other guests poorly. I hope the management will take action towards these people & look in to this issue without ignoring these situations. People spend money & come there to have a good time enjoy. Don’t make it a habit of running it for others so because you want treat your own special. We won’t be tolerating these kinda behavior from Colombo Hilton. They said that they wont refund. I looked at them saying “are you really making me pay 120000 rupees for 1 night”? The supposed manager replied mockingly “of course”. Note: one nights price is supposed to be 15000 rupee. Apart from the scam, the hygiene of this place is disturbing as well. The bed sheets and covers were all covered up with brown stains. However, after the housekeeping person changed it, there is still brown stains on the sheets that they claimed were “clean”. Cockroaches and spiders were also seen in the showers, carpet looks unhygienic as there are also brown stains on them If i could give a 0 star to this place i would, but google’s lowest rating is a 1 star. Best part I liked was the breakfast, which though is not very very elaborate but good with variety and is delicious. For vegetarians, the options are good and tasty especially their live counters. I was disappointed though with their wi-fi connection which didn’t work during my 2 nights stay and despite my several requests the staff just kept on changing my log-in and passwords but with no results. Also since I stayed on the nights of weekends, catching sleep was a challenge as very loud music played till almost 4 am in the morning. At night, the streets are fairly busy but I felt safe walking by myself but just be careful of the tuk-tuk drivers, negotiate with them per drop-off and only pay when your trip is over, don't ask them to wait for you, just get another one for your return to the hotel. Also, don't accept their help negotiating in the stores, if they are going to wait for you, tell them to wait outside. Some of them are ruthless and can become aggressive especially if you are a solo traveller. The window didn't cut out much noise from the ocean waves and the band playing until around midnight. The electric plugs are old, some of the cables of the lights are torn and pose great risks. The hot water system is intermittent, hot and cold randomly. In my opinion, this part of the property really could do with a make over and modernization. But the room rate is very reasonable. So, all in all, it isn't a bad experience at all. I recommend to anyone to stay here once, to get that experience of staying at a charming iconic hotel.

When considering where to stay while on vacation for a month here in Sri Lanka, I wanted to begin our journey right, so decided to book at the Colombo Residences location(as similar to Homewood Suites, they have condo suite style layouts). I couldn't have been more right(and happy) about expecting an awesome experience since Hilton locations have always had a special home away from home comfort while travelling. And this location exceeded all expectations by an immeasurable amount. From the moment I checked in, the evening front desk staff were so kind and warm with their hospitality. As I had Diamond status, I received a very quick and efficient complimentary upgrade to an executive suite on a high floor with possibly the most amazing view of the Lotus Tower. The accommodations were incredibly spacious, modern and comfortable. We also had the opportunity to dine at the hotel restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the course of our stay, as the consistency of the exemplary service continued there as well. Extraordinarily kind and knowledgeable staff combined with a diverse variety of quality(sincere compliments to the various Chefs and attendants) food choices across various times of the day, led to a delicious experience. The overall stay reinforced a sense of comfort and safety as well, because the location is extremely secure. It cannot be stated enough how amazing the entire host of various staff members at this location are. Their kindness, friendliness, hospitality and efficiency were incredible to witness. We have already booked and are definitely looking forward to our next multiple day stays at the Hilton Colombo Residences. Originally, we had booked another property, but due to a maintenance issue, we were relocated here. ONCE you get them to bring you what you asked for. Lastly, guests are often foreigners or well-off locals. The pool was clean and nicely maintained. There was a baby pool and was really helpful for a family. The location was in the city, but ut was really good environment, covered well, feels so homely and privacy maintained well. My kids enjoyed well the time spend there. Lot of hotels not allow visitors to use a pool but this hotel provide it to a very reasonable price. And the food outlet in the hotel had variety of items, from home-made delicious Xmas cookies to a nice rice meal for lunch. There were quite a good range of white rice, red rice and yellow rice. We all enjoyed it well. We were thrilled to see the great range of platter available at the hotel. But our tummies were full and couldn't try it but hope to try it in near future. The owners were really nice and helpful that made the place feeling like a home. I would love to visit again and hopefully try to stay when needed in picture.

We booked two rooms and both were decently clean, including the washrooms, which made the stay comfortable. We were alloted Rooms in the 4th floor, one was a double sharing one and the other was a triple sharing one. Rooms were pretty spacious and ambience was great. The lobby manager, Mr. Stanley was cordial and was helpful thoroughout the stay. Review on the buffet dinner: The soup and bun was a bit bland, but the main course was really good and filling. A suggestion can be to improve the variety maybe, for example to have a flavoured rice in place of plain rice or replace one of the curries with another main course (it was limited to plain rice and chapathi with multiple curries). There are a fair number of 'sights' within easy reach as well. Service at the entrance was a little brusque and check in took longer than we expected, but we had a good stay overall. Tip: ask for a sea facing room on the higher floors; we stayed in a city facing room, but could see what we were missing from the rooftop. That said, the rooms are well appointed, with the exception of mirrors lacking in the non-bathroom areas and a missing hair dryer, which we had to wait quite some time for. The service and foods at the restaurants (Thai Rasa and Ayu) was great! Some of the walls were discoloured due to water damage. The mechanism to lift the bamboo blinds of the windows were broken so I had no way of opening the windows. It would be nice to have a tv in the room and a water heater with some coffee and tea or else a intercom to get room service. Plus a mosquito vaporizer would come handy too. I would say the place doesn't look that luxurious as it shows in the photos. The Place has great potential, they should consider refurbishing and fixing the rooms. Wifi was excellent, Breakfast was average, no other options were given (coffee, passion fruit cordial, toast bread, jam, butter and omelette)
