We had the lunch time set menu and it was phenomenal. £22.50 for three courses, perfect portion sizes - left feeling very satisfied. The dishes were beautifully presented, and full of flavour. We especially liked the pork cheek, the whitebait, and the rosemary crème brûlée! The cocktails were really tasty and looked fab. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere.

A really excellent restaurant, that perfect mix of feeling fancy whilst still being relaxed. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent, the crispy chili pork bites in particular were exceptional. The drinks menu is good too, a nice selection and the espresso martini was one of the best I've had.

So I came back! And wow. Completely different experience. Food was gorgeous. Like really, really good. Our server was super polite and helpful - great asset to the team. Even offered me a wine taste to make sure I was ordering something I liked. Food was great and decor beautiful. The menu is limited which i dont mind...although there is a set menu which looked really good.
2 things holding me back from 5 stars...
- my starter was HUGE compared to my friends which was teeny...same price.
- I had the beef bourginion which was lovely but maybe on the rich side for me. Towards the end I was really struggling (but kept eating because it really was rather good)!

What a great find! We were in the area with our dog and were searching for dog friendly places to eat. We stumbled across Damson & Wilde and were not disappointed. Had a lovely dinner experience at this restaurant, it's located in the beautiful, historical part of Bury at Edmunds just across from the famous abbey gardens.
The decor of the restaurant is very pleasing, draped in pastel flowers with tables and intimate booths alike to choose from.
The staff were lovely, accommodating and extremely attentive to our needs, they were able to advise us on the menu and the drinks and explain everything extremly well.

My husband and I have been interested in trying Giggling Squid for months now since we’ve moved here from the states. This is one of the most recommended restaurants to us and ultimately the most over rated. I’ve had my fair share of Thai food and this is not it. The fried oyster mushrooms were 10/10, very delicious. However our main course was not flavored at all. Even after the server warned me that my dish would be very spicy, (chili and basil stir fry with vegetables) I was excited because I love spice. I have just visited the Dog and Partridge for a couple of drinks and I was very impressed. I have had terrible experiences with Greene King pubs where the pints were flat and the service was awful but this place restored my faith!
Jack on the bar was absolutely fantastic and his service was very good. He was polite and engaging, and showed genuine pride in his work.
The drinks were chilled and gaseous, which is what you should expect as a given but every GK pub I have been in, the drinks have been so poor. The Fox, also located in Bury St Edmonds was an awful pub. The beer was flat and the service was shocking.

We had an excellent stay this weekend at The Dog and Partridge. The room was perfect and had been recently modernised, loved the rain forest shower! My husband & I met 2 friends at the Dog & Partridge for a celebratory lunch today. The pub itself is lovely though it has limited parking.
We order our food, I have an allergy however, I'm well versed in managing it and know exactly what to avoid and try to chose items that are easily simplified. My husband placed our order stressing to the staff that I'd like the battered halloumi BUT without any of the accompaniments. Just completely plain, battered halloumi and a portion of fries.
When it arrived it was smothered in peri peri sauce. When we asked why we were told that it was better with the sauce. I explained my request was due to an allergy where upon all food was whisked away and a rather rude woman asked whether it was simply a preference. When I repeated that it was an allergy she presented an iPad to me, told me that I needed to read all of the terms and tick a box BUT if my allergens weren't on their list then my order would need to be referred to their nutrition team.
The way I was spoken to was not only rude and upsetting but also strongly gave the impression that my business was not wanted.
After reading through other reviews I've noticed one from a year ago where the person had virtually the same experience as I had today. Clearly lessons have not been learnt. We will not be returning

Seated really quickly, ordered and served our drinks super fast. We ordered three starters; halloumi fries, chips and dip and the prawns and they were delicious. All looked so promising but what a fail! We both ordered the Rock Star veggie breakfasts and had high hopes. The meals were very very slow to come out, and when they finally did we were immediately disappointed. The menu is super misleading, listing ‘eggS’ when you only get a single egg and ‘tomatoeS’ when you get one half a tomato. The hash browns are not the regular triangular ones but the small round ones, and the halloumi was 2 very small thin pieces. Really not good enough for a £16 breakfast!! To add insult to injury, the food itself just tasted very meh and the mushrooms were cold. I don’t mean they had gone cold - I mean they were literally stone cold as if taken straight from the fridge! When we raised this with the waitress, she wanted to take our entire plate away just so they could change the mushrooms. Given we had waited so long for the food in the first place we declined and asked for the replacement mushrooms to be brought to us.
They then still added a 12.5% discretionary service charge to the bill which, aside from being a pathetic Americanism which has no place in the UK, isn’t remotely justified considering the poor experience.
To note the toilets are downstairs, mixed gender and very dark.
All in all a shocking experience. £40 for a small, mediocre breakfast with cold mushrooms. Do not recommend.

However, there were some bad points. We had a table booked for 11:30 and were only given breakfast menus (no big deal, we could have asked for other ones but didn’t). I asked two different staff members three different times for a high chair for my 18 month old and eventually had to go to the back of the restaurant and get one myself—and this was midday on a Wednesday with a very quiet restaurant so it couldn’t even be blamed on being busy. The top piece of the breakfast bagel stack I ordered was slathered in oil (maybe to look nice) so it was really greasy and super messy to eat (still totally delicious).

Had to review my review again as I feel something has changed for the better. The quality of the food that's coming out of the kitchen has improved. The plates are not as cold as previously stated in my last review of the place. There is a real 'wow' factor as you enter the first floor of the Corn Exchange. It is a huge barn of a place and was packed to the rafters early on Saturday market day lunchtime.
I perused the menu on the Wetherspoons app, only to discover that every single recently introduced Gourmet Burger had sold out. Ditto the new on the menu steak and ale pudding.
The duty manager, who cleared my table, said 'they hadn't expected all the new items to sell out'.
So I settled on an 8 ounce sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and all the trimmings. With a bottle of alcohol free Stella, it was just £7.49. Remarkable value.
Not only that, the steak was cooked perfectly to the medium I had specified, the pepper sauce was really nice, the chips freshly cooked and both my drink and the food was on the table in the time I'd been to 'powder my nose'.
Don't know why I thought of that - it was my dear old mum's expression.
Anyway, despite the varied reviews for this branch of 'Spoons', I cannot fault it at all.

The food is generally good. The restaurant has a pleasant vibe. The staff are nice. Our most recent visit we ordered burgers which were pretty good, bang bang chicken noodles which is my favourite dish here and sausage/chips/beans for our children. I had a side of spinach which seemed like it had been cooked in the sun or something, it was just completely dry and flaky 😅 not sure what they had done with it. I do have an issue with our latest visit, as my son who's 7yrs old was served his meal 15 minutes before the rest of us. We were only told this would be the case when they had brought his plate out. I queried the reason and the server said it had always been that way to serve children quickly so that they aren't waiting but it's never happened on any of our previous visits. I've heard of this practice but my son is 7yrs old, not a baby and at the same time they didn't do that for my daughter who is 9yrs old. It just seems very silly as he was completely finished in 15 minutes and then was left waiting anyway for all of us to finish so we kind of ended up rushing our meal and it defeated the entire point of having a family meal out together. We weren't having the food due to necessity, it was for a nice time. If it was urgency we would have simply grabbed a sandwich somewhere. So I wish the restaurant would address this and query individual customers at the time of taking an order, if they require this practice to occur.

Today, May 16, back in BSE for the weekend, arriving at 1620, I nearly missed out; last orders I learned was at 1615.
So I pleaded that I only needed a pot of tea and some cake and a nice lady, one of the owners, let me in.
As always, and I think my first foray here was in 2000, a year after they opened, the tea was served properly, with a strainer, extra hot water and all the trimmings. The chocolate cake was scrumptious.
Having paid the bill, one of the lovely staff came up and asked if I'd like a little bag of scones, as they couldn't be used tomorrow
Lovely touch - that's why they have been so successful all this time.
The only downside was I then had to go to M&S to buy butter and strawberry jam and something to wash it down, so my free scones cost me £13.05!
I shall enjoy them during the FA Cup Final tomorrow, after I have been to 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' at the Theatre Royal.

I wouldn’t bother coming here. We were in there an hour and half and only received our drinks.
We come into Harriet’s tea room after many pleasant experiences here, however today we was in Harriets 45 minutes before we had to ask what the wait time was for food and then she took our order there. Thought we were getting somewhere. 15 mins later our drinks had come and then 15 mins after that a piece of cake we ordered arrived. While we was sitting in here there was plenty of people coming in and getting they food and leaving before we had even got our drinks.
30 mins later our food hadn’t arrived and I had to go up and question them, she couldn’t find it on her till and had to ask the kitchen. It was 2:15 at this point, lunch had gone so we decided we would just leave. When I went up to pay for drinks they were all stood in kitchen discussing our issue. All the girls let’s apologising but there is so many sorrys’ they can say and the issue still was still not fixed. Not sure I should of paid 11.90£ for the drinks tbh.
Oh and I had to extended my parking which was £3.60!

There really are a Lot of coffee shops in Bury St Edmund's, people must be addicted to the stuff to keep them all in business and I confess than when visiting my family there I have tried a few. This one tops my list. The position is excellent over looking the Angel Hill and they have an excellent range of coffee's, tea's and chocolates. The new manager, Andy, welcomed us at the door and offered us a choice of where to sit. He seemed friendly and was busy helping the floor staff as well as hosting. Our waitress, Vicky, was cheerful and attentive, she made a few great recommendations off the summer menu. Food was tasty and speedy out of the kitchen, many thanks to Michael, Ollie and the other chefs. Jason was also hard at work delivering a speedy service to his customers. As two former employees, we were pleased to see the establishment doing well, sporting a calm, friendly atmosphere and bringing in familiar customers who visit there frequently.

We came in today hoping for a quick and cheap meal and it turned into a 3 hour long dinner, Our server Emma was great and got our drinks and meals ordered in no time. However the wait for our starters was 30-45 minutes long which I’m assuming was due to the kitchen being so backed up. We watched our server have to deal with all the tables surrounding us by herself, while the second server was nowhere to be seen and if so it would only be for short periods of time before disappearing again. The food itself was hot and lovely and was handed to us as soon as it was ready but watching a single women deal with a whole restaurant was quite disheartening and upsetting to watch. She remained pleasant and apologetic throughout the whole service which we saluted her for. We also had discounts due to us having the pizza express app however the discounts were not automatically taken off our bill so our server on top of dealing with a whole restaurant had to sit and manually remove money from our bill aswell.

It’s on the smaller side but it’s an old building so to be expected. There’s an outside areas accessible from the side or through the inside with plenty of seating and space.
The food has always been excellent, bar staff are good to chat with and are happy to give their advice on beer selection. Highly recommended!

The coffee was horrible, the milk was burnt and there was no foam at all considering they were supposed to be lattes. It was just bubbles at the top! For a £3.75 latte, oat milk was an extra 40p (over £1 more expensive than posh London cafes might I add) it was horrid.
Watching the person make it was upsetting, dairy milk and plant milk being steamed with the same wand even though their machine has two separate wands is a huge contamination issue. If I did those things where I work I would be fired and the place put under investigation! Luckily I don’t have a severe allergy or that alone could have killed me. The person making the coffee did not know how to make a coffee, you could tell easily by the burnt taste and the screeching sound the milk was making. As I watched she just stuck the steam wand into the bottom of the jug, no foaming or temperature checking, let the milk BOIL and then left in on the machine to steam more while she left it to have a chat. Anyone with the slightest barista knowledge would know that’s the worst thing you can do, I couldn’t drink more than a mouthful after seeing that.
When bringing it to their knowledge, they didn’t even know what I meant by the coffee tasting burnt, they just said “Oh like it’s too hot? Sorry. That’ll be £26.25.” Appalling customer service, I had to laugh on my way out or I would have cried.

We had lunch here Saturday 4th October. Myself, husband and mum in law. The cafe was very busy so waited about 30mins which is understandable, although when we were given our table, that particular one had been free during our whole wait time.
No one came to take our order after 15 mins. I asked a young girl clearing tables if we could give our order. She just said some one would be with us. We waited another 15 mins and asked someone again. This time someone took our order but then had to wait another 15 mins for the food and coffees to appear. It really was a poor show. Based on that experience I wouldn't recommend and we were shopping which gave us less time to shop.

We were seated pretty much straight away, then sat for 15mins without anyone coming over (I went to the counter at one stage and the very polite young lady told me to sit down and someone would come over to take our order). We were on table 33 which is right next to the counter and next to the part where a manager and a waitress were bundling up knives and forks in napkins. As we was the first customers to use the table I find in inexcusable that the table still had crumbs all over it.
The floor was also very sticky also so looks like the cleaning of the area could be improved.

The ordering process was easy enough (only complicated by Just Eats ridiculousness) but beyond that point, just incredible. We were phoned to confirm exact delivery location (on a local campsite) and given ETA. Pizza arrived, delivered by the most smartly dressed and eloquent gent who delivered very very good and HOT (temperature wise) pizzas and garlic bread with cheese. They were all fantastic. Good quality, well cooked items. The dips were just the bizzo. I personally cannot fault it in any quarter. Well done team.

Greeted when we came in and shown a table. Menu was simple and easy to understand. Had pizza, of course, but there were good alternatives on the menu (pastas etc) too. Staff here were great, even though it was quiet, all were quick to tables without it feeling like a rush. Disappointing. Was expecting great things when I saw the wood fired oven at the back of the restaurant, but in reality it's just average pizzas with below average quality ingredients - and at £17ish for a 12-inch pizza I'd have expected better.

This is my favourite place for lunch. Anyone who wants a good lunch or visits Bury St Edmund’s, my immediate recommendation is the lounge. Their paninis are fresh, their garlic and herb sauce. No request is ever too much. I always get served with nothing being an issue. Their customer service is beyond exceptional regardless.
Recently, I had my partners family come for a visit but their kitchen was close to closing. We politely were going to accept it and say no worries we’ll get a coffee and sit in their *BEAUTIFUL* garden. They went beyond and had absolute no problems to deliver their amazing lunch and customer service.
