We had an excellent experience at Rockfish in Brixham Harbour with my wife and our Labrador, who was very well looked after. The menu offered plenty of tempting choices, and we especially liked how the waitress described the specials, circling and pricing them on the menu as she explained each dish – a nice personal touch.
The food itself was excellent and beautifully prepared. While the prices felt a little on the high side (more like London prices), the quality and service made it worthwhile. Our server was outstanding – attentive, friendly, and very helpful in guiding us with our choices.
It all made for a really enjoyable evening. As an added bonus, because we were renting a local fisherman’s cottage, our first drinks were complimentary, which was a lovely surprise.
Rockfish is a great spot for excellent seafood, warm service, and a relaxed atmosphere with good views of the working harbour.

Rockfish in Brixham is an absolute winner. The staff are superb, making you feel instantly welcome—plus, it's a huge bonus that they're dog-friendly. The fish is stunningly fresh; I had the John Dory, and my girlfriend had the monkfish, both of which were cooked perfectly. And seriously, the curry sauce is the best I've ever tasted. After walking around town a few times checking the local menus I decided to go here. It’s got a nice deck out the back overlooking the harbour which is nice. It’s got an extensive fish menu so if that’s your thing this place is definitely for you. I couldn’t get past prawn tacos on the menu and I’m glad I picked it too. Yes! They were bloomin’ lovely!

I've avoided fish with the assumption that I don't like it. I felt that as I was staying in Brixham, it would be a missed opportunity not to try. I explained and was advised to order the catch of the day, sea bass with basil sauce.
I would definitely order again and highly recommend it. Perfect balance, not too over powering. Cooked beautifully. The basil sauce added just the right amount of flavour.

Was here yesterday evening. It was fine, if a little bit unatmospheric. However, what surprised me - and this is Brixham - is that there were no market specials on the menu. Really odd, in my opinion.
The previous two evenings I had been to two other Brixham fish restaurants, and great market specials. I come to Brixham for fresh fish.
To be fair, your Dauphinois potatoes are good 👍.

By far the best meal we had in Brixham!
Great service, perfect food, good social distancing and tempurature checks at the door.
The quality of the food was so high, you'd expect to pay twice the price for it. ~£120 for 4 people, 3 course meal, but the quality was that of a gourmet restaurant you'd pay much more for.
Quick service and our waiter was very friendly. Vegan & vegetarian options. We had a set menu but called in advance to have a steak instead of fish (as there was no meat dish on the menu, and one of our party does not eat fish) - no problem at all.
I can't reccomend this place enough. We will definitely be visiting again when back in Brixham!

Lovely find whilst on a ferry trip to Brixham. This place had ample seating. The service was fantastic. The ladies who served were very accommodating whilst dealing with very fussy diners ( i.e my kids.) We opted for classic fish and chips. The kids also went for the mozzarella sticks which had the most incredible cheese pull.The batter on the fish was perfect. Loved the curry sauce too. A very cute touch were ketchup and mayonnaise in little glass jars. We did have to pay 10% service charge as there were more than 5 of us, however I didn't mind as it was well deserved. It is pricey but it is money well spent.Would definitely recommend this place!!!

This unassuming corner, chip shop, hides a really great seafood restaurant. The service is unobtrusive and there when you want something. The food was really good quality, monkfish and prawn curry is very special. Good portions in the children’s menu as well.
Some parts of the restaurant are dog friendly, but not all so best to book.

Searching for a good restaurant to have lunch, I spotted Simply Fish close to the harbour, and decided to give it a try. It turned out to be an excellent choice! The lady who greeted me was friendly and welcoming. The interior decor is eye-catching and modern, with a relaxing blue colour scheme and silver fish across the ceiling. There's a separate entrance for the takeaway. The banquette was comfortable, and the tables and restaurant as a whole looked very clean. The menu offered a good choice of starters and main courses, mainly fish and seafood, ranging from fish and chips to more sophisticated and expensive dishes, but there were also some burgers and vegetarian/vegan options, and a children's menu. I decided to try something different, so I chose the monkfish and prawn curry with a side dish of rice, mango chutney, and a large poppadom. The meal was well presented, with generous portions. The monkfish (the first time I'd tried it) was quite meaty, and the curry was thick and filling with coconut and lots of vegetables in it. Pleasantly aromatic, but also hot and spicy. There was a small selection of homemade desserts for afters, but I was much too full! So I just ordered a pot of tea, and it was very good. Service was both quick and attentive. One of the pricier places in Brixham to eat fish and chips. So is the extra cost worth it? Well yes and no really. The lightly battered hake was immaculate - the batter crisp, the fish chunky and flaky. My sides of curry sauce was probably the best I've ever tasted; the tartare sauce and mushy peas were both excellent. However what could have been an exceptional meal was let down by the double cooked chips - a few of which were undercooked. Double cooked chips seems an unusual feature, why not triple cook them? Shame really, as what would have been a 10/10 meal I could only score as a 7/10.
Two fish and chips meals, sides of curry sauce and mushy peas, plus two soft drinks came to just shy of £58. A discretionary service charge of 10% is added to tables of five or more, with tipping encouraged for smaller tables.

Four stars from this Yorkshire lass/lad! Being from the land of proper fish and chips, our standards are sky-high. The fish at this establishment was... fine (a touch on the pale side, if I'm honest). The chips, however, didn't quite hit the mark. On the bright side, the service was truly excellent, and the harbour view was a delight. A minor quibble: the pot of tea didn't come with extra hot water, which was a bit disappointing. My wife and I had a lovely time at Shoals. It’s a very informal restaurant in a beautiful location, and the fish was absolutely fantastic – so fresh and full of flavour. We started with prawns and calamari, both excellent, then enjoyed the monkfish curry and a turbot dish, which were perfectly prepared and delicious. One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten! We booked in for an early lunch (the only time available before 6pm and we were leaving that day) because we’d read fantastic reviews. It was a bonus to find out on arrival the Banjo, my dog, was also welcome! Because it was lunch not dinner we just had a main course each but my gosh, what a main course it was! I chose the scallops and monkfish in a whisky cream sauce with bacon and the whole meal was just heavenly. The waitress suggested that I order some crusty bread to mop up the juice and it was an excellent suggestion! We also shared the broccoli as a side dish too. I understand that recent months have been challenging for the owners due to the ongoing works on the pool outside (out of their control) and I just hope enough people can overlook this to enjoy a delicious meal. Not impressed. As someone of Jamaican heritage I was expecting better. The Take Away menu is well set out and, whilst pricey, the Jamaican flag flying from the window suggested authenticity. Well, I'm afraid we have been disappointed and I regretfully would not recommend this place.

This is one of the hidden gems in Torquay! I's rare to find a well run family business but this one exceeded our expectations on a number of fronts. Firstly the young daughter greeted us with a warm friendly smile and we were seated promptly.
The father was also very polite and welcoming and brought us out some delicious complimentary Pholourie Verna’s popular Apple & Garlic Trini dumplings. The food was amazing and fresh and came out promptly. We had the Chicken curry Rotti, coconut rice and peas, salad, Potato and Chick pea Rotti and Fried Plantain. All of which were to die for! My only gripe is that I cannot manage dessert (my own fault)!
Although we didn't get to meet Verna we have to say her cooking was magnificent and you can tell from the presentation and taste of the food that she is passionate about cooking her customers high quality and great tasting food!
I would also like to add that all the staff there were very welcoming with our young 5 month old baby girl, who occasionally screamed with glee.
And last but not least, the restaurant also offers a lovely view of the harbour. Too bad they are planning on retiring soon, so get there before they do!

I’m no stranger to Caribbean food and have to say I was not disappointed with Verna’s. We ordered in advance for collection and everything was ready on time and lovey and hot. The portion sizes were generous, enough for leftovers the next day ☺️. Verna came out of the kitchen to say hi which was lovely.
Our fiends who were are holidaying with we’re trying Caribbean food for the first time loved it. The jerk chicken was succulent and the curry goat was tender and flavoursome. And the ribs! Amazing.

We were a hen party of 4 going out for a civilised meal. Absolutely fantastic service, we arrived and the lovely gentleman server even moved a table for us so we could sit with a sea view, totally unprompted! We were offered a delicious complementary free starter while waiting and the cocktails were delicious. The food arrived promptly and the spicy prawns were wonderfully fragrant, not insanely spicy but a pleasant amount of heat and the jerk chicken with rice and peas was delicious, authentic and a good portion size. A fantastic spot in the heart of Brixham!
We had a brilliant meal at The Old Market House – the setting by the harbour is beautiful, with lovely views of the colourful hillside houses and boats bobbing on the water. We had the small plates for £19, which is pub food, but elevated with delicious ingredients & flavours. The thermidor crab fries has delicious & well prepared crab and a very tasty sauce. In addition to this we also tried a range of drinks. All of the smoothies were prepared fresh and tasted as vibrant as they look 🧋🍎🍊 I personally had the BFG deluxe hot chocolate! This was a nice surprise. From the outside, the cafe looks average but you will not be disappointed. The food is very special, tasty and well decorated. I had the pulled pork focacchia. We had the pleasure of dining here for my birthday celebration. 10 of us including 3 grandchildren ages from 7 to 2 also had to be accommodated. Front of house member of staff was exceptional. Greeted with a smile, and excellent service throughout the meal. He took 3 little ones who were over excited in his stride and made sure they were happy throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. What a find! When in Brixham, you HAVE to eat at Albero’s. It’s located right in the harbour and comes highly recommended by the locals. We ate here with a family of 5 and brought our very well-behaved Bernedoodle Mr Darcy. Located next to an old WW2 bunker and shore battery on top of a cliff (if you love your history), the Guardhouse does the best fish & chips around. Sourced from the local Brixham fish market, it is noticeably fresh, delicious and well presented.
Having parked the car, we explored the WW2 sites overlooking the sea before eventually making our way to the Guardhouse for some deserved rest! The outdoor seating area is dog friendly, has lots of space and is walled off high enough to provide shelter from the coastal winds. We have been holidaying in Brixham for years. This cafe is my cosy cliff top dreamspace; fabulous location, great menu with food such as fish n chips, local crab sandwiches which go well with their bowls of chips, and comfort food if you want it, like sausage or bacon sandwiches. The scones are brilliant, as are the coffees, especially Cappuccino. On top of all that the service is super with attentive and friendly staff who make you feel at home. We stopped off on our rainy walk back to Torquay, and decided to sit in and warm up, with a chippy tea. Our server Aidan was friendly, efficient and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. We both went for the hake and chips, one battered, one breaded, and we both said it was incredible, so fresh and beautifully cooked - has to be the best hake we’ve ever had! The mushy peas were delicious, and paired perfectly with the fish and delightfully golden chips. The portion sizes are more than generous, and the prices extremely reasonable. The menu has such a plethora of choices, I love that you can have your fish cooked in a variety of different ways, rather than just the standard battered. We have lived in Torquay for five years, and have been on the hunt for the best chippy, and we think we’ve finally found it in Preston! Our new local, it’s well worth the walk. We booked an afternoon tea for a birthday celebration however the birthday girl hurt her back and we had to ring and request it as a take away that morning. What a find! We were nearby on holiday and looking for a Devon cream tea - THIS place seemed to fit the bill and oh wow! It was truly delicious - the scone was still hot from the oven! Tea was served in a teapot with cup and saucer. There were even the options to replace the tea with prosecco or a G&T! I also liked the eco-friendly use of washable flannels to dry hands.

Nice location, ordered a pasty, 2 paninis, a coffee & soft drink. Pasty was served straight from the hot counter at the till. Paninis proceeded to take at least 15 minutes to be delivered. Despite having 2 panini grills, only one was switched on and there were multiple takeaway orders to be heated & boxed up before ours went in. Had to ask how long as my husbands pasty was going cold, then the paninis arrived 5mins apart. So not really the family lunch we planned when we all ate at different times. A cross between 1 or 2 stars unfortunately due to me hate giving 1 star reviews.
I gave this 'local' chip shop a go as I would usually go to one nearer the harbour or over near Paignton, and i guess you don't know until try and with a nationally recognised 5star food rating on the government website at time of visit.
So I gave them a 'try' but unfortunately the unfriendly welcome from lady on shift (18th May) had already given me bad vibes.
I proceeded to order two large chips, 1x home made fish cake, battered sausage, 2 cans of pop which came to near £20.
Fish cake was home made as described and recommended.
Sausage was OK but seemed over cooked.
The biggest let down was the chips, they just tasted like tasteless microchips and for them to cost nearly a fiver and only get one scoop and a sprinkle extra from another scoop was absurd (I watched them get served). I appreciate its your business and you can serve as you wish but the portions I was served were between small-med at other chippies. Anyway we couldn't eat them due to the cardboard microwave chip style taste.
I personally won't be visiting again for the lack of customer service and poor quality of chips.
I appreciate you have a fair amount of descent reviews, however maybe I just arrived on a 'bad day'

After a bit of a journey from Cornwall to Paignton, (on our motorbikes) we looked for somewhere to eat and drink. This was the first café we came to. The owner was very welcoming, friendly and chatty.

We stumbled across Crusoe's whilst staying in Brixham on holiday. This really is a hidden gem, tucked away above the harbour. The menu is relatively small and includes a lot of seafood, but it is top quality.
We visited as a family of 5 and had a 7 year old with us. There isn't a specific children's menu, but the chef can adapt a meal.
I ordered the hot rock rump steak, which was a real novelty. The steak was delicious and really good quality and the chips were amazing!

As a couple we was delighted to find this restaurant. Although it was very quiet we had decided to give it a try. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. We had the Brixham Chowder and the Scallops with black pudding for starter, and both were perfectly cooked( the scallops were so tender they practically melted in the mouth, mains we had the Dover sole and also the Hake with a scallop and Irish champ instead of new potato, which was absolutely wonderful and made perfectly. It was a shame that they only opened Tuesday to Saturday although it was very early on the season. So we both had a good time with adequate quantity of good food.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Brixham. We've been here two weeks and chose Crusoes for our last evening meal because they offer a lot of gluten free choices, alongside their main menu. The service was spot on, the food was delicious and the atmosphere and views were fabulous. Food was cooked to order and for 2 adults and 2 teens, there was enough choice that we were all happy. Staying in town for a holiday. Found this place from Google maps and reviews were good. Very quiet when we went. Great menu with all day breakfasts and vegaterian options. We ordered set1 breakfast and set 2 breakfast. And 1 vegaterian breakfast. They were fantastic. 1 round of toast each comes with it and it's lovely large bloomer slices. And cup of tea coffee or fruit juice. Cappuccino or latte £1 extra. Great value. The owner is very friendly and had a lovely chat with us. Really made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in. We have a wheelchair user and it's easy to get in with a wheelchair. Toilets not easy to go to with wheelchair but there is one not far in the town we were advised and there was and that was fine.

We've often come to this place when we've visited Brixham, you just get great fish and chips at a very good price,
Next door was fish and chips for £13+ so having these with peas, some bread and butter plus tea/coffee for £6.95 is great value - I'm sure there are reasons it's £13 nearby but at the end of the day imagine a family of 4 paying £13+ each for lunch, it's all about choice.
I'm not sure what people want when they write their reviews, I don't want a wow factor but I want somewhere clean and welcoming, decent Fish, cooked fresh - and I want decent chips.
That's what we got and if we come back to Brixham we'll do what we did this time and just go here for our lunch again because we know it's a great choice that's always served us a good lunch.

But this time one of our orders, (a mixed kebab - double southern fried chicken), had way less pieces than what it usually does (no more than 4 pieces) whereas the other two mixed kebabs, (which were paneer and southern fried chicken), had much more southern fried pieces.
We called to ask as there are always more pieces and kept being told by the lady on the phone that it's a single kebab so has less....our receipt literally says "mixed kebab" and we paid more for the mixed kebab, yet received less product and we order this every week, so we are aware of how much will be in there. Tried explaining this to her but instead of offering us an alternative, she kept repeating the same thing.
Very disappointed as this was a go to place for us almost every week but the lack of understanding and service this instance was not great at all.
