This museum is located in the most unexpected part of Pune; in the middle of a market. It is worth a visit. The ticket chargers are 120rs per adult, and 50rs per child. Mobile photos have extra charges of 100rs. They have Indian artefacts, mostly from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu etc.
One must follow the direct on the walls, otherwise it is easy to miss the Mastani Mahal.

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is a fascinating destination that offers a deep dive into the cultural heritage and history of India. Located in Shukrawar Peth, Bajirao road which is @ 4km from Pune Station. We have visited this place after our visit to Okayama Friendship Garden. From there also it is situated at a distance of 4km.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum contains the collections of Dr. Dinkar G Kelkar, dedicated to the memory of his only son Raja who died at the age of seven.
This museum is displayed in three store building in two different wings called as Wing A & Wing B. In Wing A, the ground floor had objects of beauty and culture. The first floor contains utensils used in olden days. The second floor inhabited the textile Gallery. The third floor has special exhibition with mixed items. In B wing, the Ivory gallery is on the ground floor. The first floor has musical instruments and decor from famous Mastani Mahal. The second floor has the lamps gallery.
Interesting Facts about Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum:
1. Kelkar Museum welcomes tourists with a huge decorative door, locally known as Dindi Darwaja. A number of small intricately curved windows and an open courtyard at the center give a feel of a characteristic Marathi atmosphere. Don't miss to see the same as most of the people rush inside without seeing such beautiful Dindi Darwaja.
2. This Museum is started in 1962. Collection started in the year 1920, and by 1984 total 15,000 objects were collected. Today total collection reached up to 22,000 objects. The Museum was initially named as Raja Sangraha, later as Raha Kelkar Historical Collections and finally named as Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum.
3. Dinkar Kelkar Ji Spent 60 years of his life travelling across India including remote places to collect and purchase rare and relic objects. Dr. Kelkar donated this museum to Maharashtra government in 1975.
4. Major attraction of this museum is the Mastani Mahal. Dr. Kelkar with the help of technicians dismantled a section of Mastani Mahal that was lying abandoned in the forests of Kothrud and shifted it to present location of the Museum.
5. Today total collection of Museum reached up to 22,000 objects, but due to space constraints 85% of the objects are not displayed and remain in shadows. Only 2,500 artifacts are displayed in this three floor building.

I visited this museum on a weekday afternoon, so there was not a single person there apart from me and it took me around an hour to complete the whole museum. There are a variety of tribal artefacts like jewellery, music instruments, masks, paintings, etc. Detailed and specific information about the artefacts is missing. Each item is visibly labelled so there is no need to lookout for a guide.

The sheer scale and richness of the collection are incredible. Every section of the museum is crafted with an impeccable eye for detail, and the level of thought that has gone into curating each display is truly commendable. The guided tour was equally captivating, with in-depth stories and background information shared about each item it was nothing short of fascinating.

This was the place where Lokmanya Tilak would print their newspaper Kesari, which played an important role in our Indian independence fight. One needs to remove their shoes outside and there is a dedicated shoe rack to keep your shoes safe. Absolutely loved the place, it's so quaint and elegantly designed with artworks made from resourced industrial waste. Each artwork was bewitching with it's intricate designs and meticulous attention to detail paired with it's recyclable goal. They have too much knowledge about what to do or which instruments to get used to during emergencies. I literally got impressed and increased much respect for the fire brigadier. These people not only save life but how tactically built with mindset seems today. They have really a bunch of instruments, information to the people who r visiting. They love to explain to people or civilians who r visiting.
The entry was free. Lots of parking 🅿️ space available.

This is a small museum, where the highlight of the trip is the vintage fire engine on display.
But this was a memorable visit!
I visited this place with a friend and we two were the only ones who were present at the location for a tour and the personnel at the fire station were kind enough to give us a fully guided tour for nearly half an hour with explanation and history of the use of the various equipments.
And we also managed to get a detailed explanation and walkthrough of a fully operational fire engine
If you are ever in the area and want to visit some unique attractions, then this place is worth visiting.

A museum located inside Erandwane fire station, created by the fire fighters with an intention to educate common folks about the fire fighting equipment, devices and etc. The entry is totally free of cost. Once you enter the fire station, you can ask any staff about the Fire museum and they'll happily guide you towards it. We visited the Erandwane Fire Museum (Keshavrao Jagtap Museum) which was opened in 2016. It is a two-story museum located in Erandwane, and is dedicated to the fire and rescue legacy of India. The museum has around 100 antique fire equipments, pictures and objects that were used in various rescue operations.
The museum houses the vintage Rolls-Royce Dennis fire brigade that was used in 1961 Panshet Dam rescue operations. The wooden racks boasts of a carefully curated collection of old rusty helmets, fire proximity suits and lamps that date back to early 1930s. We also saw an assortment of nozzles and how the designs evolved in the last 50 years. There was a hand-driven siren, British era fire rescue equipment, wireless sets, rescue belts, rubber boats, a ship raft, chemical suits, a body cooler suit and an aluminium asbestos suit in display. Some of the antiques have been sourced from fire departments across the country. Besides the fascinating collectibles, the white walls of the museum adorns photographs of various fire rescue missions in India. The photographs are supported with captions and history about these missions.
Normally there is a working fire truck in the compound but we were told that there was an emergency call in Kothrud and the firemen rushed to attend it.

But no place for natural ventilation in case of Power cut . Perfect central location is the strength. Could get parking on road nearby.

This is the 1st restaurant in the city I have visited and got the fresh paneer. The taste is amazing, tempting and not like other restaurants. Main course, specially gravy has unique taste. This is the must go place for veg lovers. Don't look anything about this restaurant just go and enjoy the meal. I'll definitely go whenever my paneer carvings hit me. Food is very good. Would recommend trying the place out.
The staff that takes orders is rude, and dismissive, the other staff for cleaning and helping are very polite. So I’m not sure why the servers are not trained properly. We ordered 3 beverages and the staff had to reconfirm 3 times, like for what joy?
Then we ordered a very basic masala papad, never got it in the order.
It was only the waiters that are the problem in this place for us. They were very inappropriate and rude.

Entry fee is ₹50 , If you want to see the video show there must be 5+people and the ticket is ₹100 per person.
In my experience it was definitely good. A woman gave us a guided tour but although I paid for the show as well I couldn't see the show because the others left, and for some reason they don't allow the show screening for 1 person.
There are many sketches/caricatures and inform right from birth of R.K.Laxman.

This place is a beautiful homage to the brilliant cartoonist.
If you are someone who read the Times of India or Maharashtra Times till the early 2000s, you will absolutely relate to the cartoons, recollect those days and enjoy the place.
One can easily spend a few hours here and the 90 minutes that I was there didn’t feel enough.
Do checkout the audio-visual show that lasts just about 45 mins and is totally worth the extra ₹50 (total ticket price of ₹100).

This is a nostalgic museum for all those who were born in the 1980's. Museum covers all the paintings by a common man called R K Laxman.
His contributions for more than 70 illustrious years is covered by so many paintings.
We all will remember him from the Malgudi days serial.
Whole museum has a video showcasing his legendary career and a malgudi story. Both of these come with additional cost however it is worth it.
Entry fee is 50 and video show is 100 extra per person.
There are n number of paintings and you will definitely get tired but painting won’t. This museum is maintained by his descendants now.
Car used by R K Laxman was bought by someone and when they heard of this museum, they donated the car and can be seen in one of the pictures.

The museum is a tribute to the iconic cartoonist whose endearing cartoons helped us see humor in the most dismal situations. For decades, Laxman’s cartoons in the Times of India were the first thing I would read before moving on to the news. The museum isn’t well sign posted and doesn’t allow visitors to park vehicles in the premises despite there being ample space. The tickets cost Ra 50 and one can easily cover the exhibits under an hour. It features many of his much loved cartoons of the “common man”; his political cartoons, celebrity sketches, etc. There are personal details of his family, a strikingly life-like statue, a model of the fictional town of Malgudi, immortalized by his brother, RK Narayan and the Ambassador car, which was the last vehicle he drove. I loved browsing through the exhibits but feel that it could have been curated better, either based on themes or chronology. The museum shop too had a poor selection of items for visitors to buy while given Laxman’s prodigious output, there ought to be material for a vast array of prints, calendars, T shirts and other memorabilia. I’m still very pleased to have visited the museum however there is no denying that it can be managed and marketed better, given the legions of fans who hold Laxman close to their hearts.

Best of both worlds: fine food and fine art!
When I discovered this place in Pune, I was over the moon. It reminded me very much of my favourite place to visit back home: Museum of Contemporary of Art Australia. Given what the world has become in the last few months, life is better when there’s good food and great art. I am glad we get to experience it at VHC.
I was surprised by the quality of the food when I first tried it a few months back with some friends. This second visit of late certainly didn’t disappoint but if I were to give genuine feedback, I would say consider curating a simple and healthy kids menu as there isn’t one available. That would definitely bring us back regularly! Nonetheless, thanks to the staff at VHC as they were wonderful and very attentive towards our kids needs.
Apart from the food, the highlight for us is the diversity of artworks exhibited at VHC. Our kids love to stroll through the gallery and converse with the staff about the different art on the display there.

Attended the Nawruz dinner on 20th Mar. A very pleasant evening with personal attention given to all guests by Vida Heyadri. I visited the place to see Vivek Vilasini's Between One Shore and Several Others.
VHC is a small but a poignant place. You can sit there on the tiny bench in the middle of the room and get lost in the art displayed on the walls.
You can ask the Manager around to take you through the artwork and they do a fabulous job. When I was there I met Shaygan and he explained the technicality of Vivek's art and how the walls sketch his global journey during the pandemic. For someone with no knowledge of micro photography or long- exposure photography, the walkthrough was very helpful.
