Historic Sites
The Union Buildings, designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1913, serve as the official seat of the South African government and house the President's offices. Situated atop Meintjieskop near historic landmarks like Church Square and the Voortrekker Monument, these imposing structures are surrounded by expansive gardens. Symbolizing the Union of South Africa, they have been witness to pivotal moments in the country's history, including Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994.
The Union Buildings Gardens are a wonderful place to relax and unwind. With beautifully maintained lawns, shaded walkways, and an atmosphere of peace, it’s perfect for a quiet afternoon. One of the highlights is watching the sunset—the view from the gardens is absolutely stunning, with the cityscape bathed in golden light and the sky painted in soft hues. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll, enjoying a picnic, or simply sitting on a bench soaking in the scenery, the Union Buildings Gardens offer a memorable and refreshing experience.
Gabriel K — Google review
🏛️ Iconic seat of the South African government, overlooking Pretoria 🌄 Set within beautifully landscaped gardens with panoramic city views 🗿 Features the Nelson Mandela statue — 9 metres tall with arms raised in triumph 💣 Two Long Tom guns and a war memorial mark the site’s military heritage 🧺 Ideal for walks and picnics in the peaceful terraced gardens 🚗 Ample parking, clean toilets, and visible security on site ☕ No visible café or shop, but plenty of open green space for visitors Full Review The Union Buildings are one of South Africa’s most recognisable landmarks — a magnificent architectural complex set high on a hillside overlooking Pretoria. Designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1913, the twin-winged sandstone buildings form a powerful symbol of national unity and democracy. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush lawns, tiered gardens, and wide terraces offering sweeping vistas across Pretoria. It’s an ideal spot to stroll, relax, or simply take in the grandeur of the setting. Two historic Long Tom guns frame a war memorial positioned between them, paying tribute to those who served in earlier conflicts. Across the gardens, the commanding Nelson Mandela statue — standing 9 metres tall with outstretched arms — overlooks the capital, symbolising peace and reconciliation. Security is reassuringly visible, and there’s ample parking as well as clean public toilets. While I didn’t spot any cafés or shops, many visitors were enjoying picnics on the lawns beneath the buildings, making good use of the open space and sunshine. It’s hard to think of a more impressive or immaculately kept location in Pretoria — a place that combines architectural splendour, historical weight, and peaceful surroundings in perfect balance. Absolutely worth a visit.

A must visit for any South African! Easy access no entry fee to see gardens and statues. Go give a high five to Madiba!

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are South Africa’s most iconic landmark, set high on Hill with beautiful terraced gardens and panoramic views of the city. they’re home to the President’s offices. Visitors can stroll through the gardens, view memorials, and admire the impressive statue of Nelson Mandela at the forefront.
Mandela J — Google review
Beautiful location, with a view over the cbd of Pretoria.
Martha R — Google review
Terraced lawns step you up to a view that slows your breathing. The statue feels welcoming rather than grand, and sandstone curves catch light in a way that makes every photo look intentional. We wandered the gardens, read a few plaques, and sat on warm steps longer than we meant to. It’s a place that handles both ceremony and everyday life—wedding photos in one corner, a picnic in another, a quiet pause on a bench in between. We left feeling lighter and a little proud.

Gardens
Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a haven for South African plant species and trees, featuring succulents, herbs, a wetland area, and an arboretum. The garden's indigenous section showcases savannah, forest, and fynbos biomes along with man-made habitats supporting specific plant species native to South Africa.
Very Very clean and safe with plenty Dassies. The hiking trail is stunning with waterfall and even some buck. Enterance fee is reasonable. Also a restaurant, kiddies play area and braai area.
Lourens D — Google review
The place is very well maintained, and it's a very relaxing atmosphere. Just nice to walk around and enjoy nature and have a cup of coffee at the coffee shop there, nestled between the trees. Very, very relaxing. And very comfortable. The toilets are also very well maintained, and there are extra toilets available in the form of portable ones.
Sulaimaan U — Google review
It is extremely well kept and boundlessly beautiful this time of year. There are nice spaces to picnic or relax and play areas for the kids as well as walking routes of varying distances with interests plants and Dassies with serene rest areas. There are beautiful sculptures done by Anton Smit spotted throughout and a awesome waterfall.
Stuart G — Google review
Super lovely space for picnicking, short hikes or just family fun time, or dates. Had so many wonderful times there, and everything is gorgeous and very well maintained. The gardens are stunning and the views at the top of the short hike paths are beautiful. Loved the waterfall noices near that one glass vield were we had a picknick. Entry fee is not that bad, think it was R70 for adults and like R40-R45 for students with valid student cards, i just used my digital card. Highly recommend a short walk around the area and checking out their cool workout area, was lots of fun messing around there.

Such a stunning celebration of our natural heritage! Thoughtfully laid out with lots of notice boards and information. Beautiful sculptures to admire, and lots of little shady spots for a picnic. Happy to pay the entrance fee, as it is clearly going towards maintaining everything.

It has been some time since I last visited the Pretoria Botanical Gardens. I decided to try out the Parkrun at this venue. Parking is available, but on the side of the road as the venue parking fills up quickly. The bathrooms were clean and no long ques. There has been a noticeable focus on adding beautiful sculptures and various art all along the Gardens adding to its already well manicured and cared for flora and forna. The parkrun held at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens is well organised and the route was challenging enough for beginners to enjoy and still feel the burn afterwards.

What a lovely experience with family and friends, it's clean, it's warm and friendly, just take yourself out on a short break definitely going back

The Voortrekker Monument stands as a grand tribute to the Afrikaans settlers who arrived in South Africa during the 1830s. This iconic heritage site features a unique architectural design, allowing sunlight to illuminate patriotic inscriptions on the cenotaph once a year. The museum showcases an impressive collection of Voortrekker memorabilia, while the Heritage Centre offers interactive exhibitions that objectively portray the contributions of the Afrikaner people to South Africa.
I was last here over 40 years ago, & was totally blown away by the complex as it is today. So much to see & a very inter-active experience. The staff are super friendly & helpful & happy to chat about the displays. Wonderful museum collections to browse & history brought alive. The monument itself is a marvel of the builders art, & the atmosphere inside as reverent & respectful of a people's forging as I remember. Tip: if stairs are a challenge, park at the back & enter through the lower museum. There is a wheelchair lift, & then... one of the spiral staircases to the top, which so terrified me as a child, has been replaced by a tiny 3 person & wheelchair friendly lift! The marvellous views from the top are definitely worth it.

What a beautiful and wonderful place to visit. Especially with the interactive center where children can experience some of the things of the Voortrekkers. The dress code of the people working there was lovely Plenty of caffe's and pitststops whilst walking. The monument was mesmerizing and it really is worth it going all the way up to have a birds eye view of Pretoria.

Driving up, the building sits on its hill like it was made for long horizons. Inside is denser than you expect, with careful displays and quiet side rooms that make you take your time. We climbed to the upper levels, leaned on the rail, and let the city and ridges spread out beneath us. Outside, the grounds are tidy and good for a slow stroll. It is a visit that lands without rushing you along.
Keegan R — Google review
Have over the years caught glimpses of the huge edifice of the Voortrekker Monument that is conspicuously visible from almost all directions around the hill on which the granite structure and its huge complex is built. Undertook an impulsive visit to the Schanskop Fort located in the same precinct, and ventured into the Transvaal Voortrekker Museum, adjacent the Complex Reception / Ticket office. Was impressed by the management and maintenance of the cultural complex, and especially the efforts undertaken to preserve and secure the historical artifacts.
Victor R — Google review
Voortrekker Monument takes you back in time. It’s neat, clean and well maintained. Hiking up to the view point and museum was easy.
Fazila K — Google review
Went for the Saturday Parkrun, loved the vibe and route, the music and energetic spirit. The gardens are beautiful, cute coffee shops and restaurant based on a school classroom theme, traditional menu based on SA"s favorites like "braaibroodjies" and "melktert" at very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.
Yolande H — Google review
The monument is grand inside and out, with enough detail to reward a slow lap—carvings, the central hall, and the view from the top if you’ve got the legs. The small museum gives useful context without dragging on, and the grounds are tidy. We paired it with nearby Fort Schanskop for quick ramparts and wide views. Parking is easy, signage is clear, and you can do both in under two hours if you’re efficient. Take water; the sun bounces off that granite.

Freedom Park Heritage Site & Museum, located in Pretoria, South Africa, is a 129-acre cultural heritage site and museum dedicated to the struggle for freedom and human rights. THE MUSEUM IS HEAVEN ON EARTH Every Art piece is exquisite with a deeper cultural and historical meaning especially to the life of a Black child. Visiting this site healed a wounded part of me that I did not know existed. I felt alive, represented and seen by just entering the site. I would recommend this site and would definitely visit again. 100/10 experience 🔥🔥🔥🔥👌

The indoor section is a series of spaces that take you from prehistory through the struggles of apartheid to the present day. Very impressive architecture. The park provides a beautiful space to quietly revere the heros who achieved freedom for South Africa.

Freedom Park Review 🌄 Freedom Park in Pretoria is a peaceful, powerful place where history, culture, and nature meet. The views are stunning, the atmosphere sacred, and every corner tells a story of sacrifice and freedom. It’s a must-visit spot to reflect, reconnect, and remember where we come from.

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, located in Pretoria, is a 210-acre zoo and research hub that offers a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore the reptile park, inland aquarium, and extensive collection of exotic trees. The zoo is home to over 3,100 animals representing more than 500 species across various categories. It's dedicated to conservation efforts with spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.
I haven't been to the Pretoria zoo in 13 years and I am definitely going more often after this visit. The animals are well looked after. The bathrooms are clean. There are multiple picnic spots, but also a zoo shop (opens at 9h00) and Duku restaurant. They have recently renovated and reopened the seal exhibition. The only animals that we could not see were the elephants, but they have 2 types of hippos, 2 types of buffaloes, leopard, Lions, tiger, many species of interesting birds, camels, giraffe, rhinos, mountain sheep, goats, alpacas, monkeys, gorillas, aquarium, snakes, lizards, antelope etc. The golf carts are convenient, but there are plenty of trees and beautiful walkways. And you will miss out on the more niche corners of the zoo like the Pygmy hippo! We were there on a Saturday. It started getting busy from 11h00 so I would suggest getting there when they open. It takes 4 hours at least to get through the whole zoo and we had a golf cart. You can easily spend a full day here. The gardens are well maintained and there are beautiful trees. The staff are very friendly and it is has safe parking. They had very interesting displays at the entrance where passionate educators talked about conservation, climate change and the animals. It is very interesting to find out all the work they do to preserve the animals in South Africa. They have a green screen where they take photos that you can buy after.
Juandri K — Google review
Attended the recent Friends of the Zoo fun walk with a friend and we really enjoyed ourselves. The information boards can do with some upgrades, and I would have liked to know the stories behind who the animals are and why they are there. All things considered the animals seem well-cared for and I will definitely be going there again.
Dene V — Google review
It is always wonderful to walk around the zoo. There are plenty of animals to see, there are however some enclosures that does not have any animals in as they are under construction. All animals are well looked after. There is information boards on some of the enclosures, I really wished there was more information boards regarding the animal that is kept in the enclosure. There are enough toilets which are neat and clean. There are big open grass areas where you can have a picnic. There are also benches all over the zoo where you can sit and look at the animals. I did however wait for the shark feeding time and talk, but no one showed up and I left after 15min. Was a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing how the sharks gets feeded. The shops only have basic items like cooldrink, water, ice cream and small packet of chips. The restaurant has a view items on the menu that you can choose from. The parking R30 is very safe as no hawkers are allowed inside the gate. They are transitioning into a cashless environment. Overall I had a great time and it was wonderful to see these amazing creatures up close.
Carina A — Google review
It was a good experience. R100 adults & R70 kids. When we attended, there was an ongoing event and a big crowd. There was ample parking and plenty of security looking after the cars. The Zoo staff were friendly and there were no queues, we went on a Sunday. We had a good day overall. The Zoo is huge, there are golf carts for use to drive around should you prefer. I think because of the event, the cleanliness was an issue. We saw a few animals. There is also an aquarium and farm animals.
Ons S — Google review
"I recently visited the Pretoria Zoo and had an amazing time! The zoo is home to a wide variety of animals, including majestic lions, monkeys, and birds. We also enjoyed the snack bars and fish exhibits. The layout is well-designed, making it easy to navigate and see all the exhibits. My niece and nephew had a blast and are already asking when they can come back!"

A Forgotten Gem! What a wonderful experience, truly a trip down memory lane! The place is spotless, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and all the animals are clearly well cared for and in great condition. It’s rare to find somewhere that feels both nostalgic and so well maintained. A hidden treasure worth re-rediscovering! Ps take a picnic basket and cooler box with!
Stefan K — Google review
Although I’m typically not a fan of zoos, the Pretoria zoo was a day well spent. It is clear that the wellbeing of the animals is being prioritized as they all appear healthy and are active and animated. Most have large enclosures that replicate their natural environment (and most appear to have company or “friends” with very few lone animals). Considering the circumstances, it’s understandable that the zoo does not have many refreshment options, and the infrastructure is a little worn (some peeling paint, and apparent age of some of the structures). The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the bathrooms are clean, and the zoo is well kept. The natural landscape of the zoo is stunning and the river flowing through the zoo is a sight to behold. There’s a lovely path behind the lion enclosures that take you to lookout points that show the Pretoria skyline and a good view of the Lion and Tiger enclosures. We went in spring so we were lucky enough to see quite a few baby animals. I hope they receive the support needed to restore the zoo! They are clearly doing the best they can with the unfortunate circumstances they’ve been dealt.

I recently visited the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria and was thoroughly impressed! The zoo is home to a stunning array of animals, from majestic lions and giraffes to adorable penguins and playful monkeys. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with plenty of shade and picnic areas to relax. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the various shows and exhibits add an extra layer of fun to the visit. A must-visit attraction for animal lovers and families alike!

Rietvlei Nature Reserve, located just a short drive from Pretoria's city center, offers a vast natural expanse where visitors can enjoy wild game viewing and fishing activities. The reserve spans 3800 hectares and is home to an array of wildlife including four of the Big Five game animals. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own pace by car or opt for guided hiking and horse trails. The park also features a restaurant serving delicious home-cooked meals.
Went today for the first time, and it was AMAZING! Saw so many animals including rhino! The reserve is small, but worth going most definately! Road are fine with a normal car. The only negative thing I can say is, if you stop to buy food at the coffee shop, be prepared to wait long. Two toasted cheese and onions took almost 40min even though they were not that busy!
Riaan G — Google review
A short 25 minute drive from Pretoria East you'll find a wonderful day outing in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. At a total cost of R125 for one adult and a kid it is absolutely worth the fee. The staff are friendly, from the moment you enter the gate, to purchasing tickets and entering the Reserve. All were friendly and welcoming. We packed a picnic, our camera and embarked on a self-drive fueled by a bunch of excitement to be out in Nature in search of wildlife. The roads are easily drive able even in a small hatch back vehicle. We stopped at three different bird hides/ lookout points and each were well maintained. We enjoyed a slow meander and eventually ended up at the coffee shop. There is a section that is home to a few Donkeys which the kids love to feed ( bring a bag of carrots, you'll be a favourite) . We enjoyed a coffee and an ice-cream before heading back out to look at more game and birds. We saw a meerkat, lots of Buffalo , zebras, ostriches, and a number of birds. Not much bird variety, but it was midday. After enjoying a good 4.5 hours of driving around we headed back home. There is are restrooms at Reception, by the coffee shop and at the Finfoot hide. All of which were decently maintained and had loo paper. We will most certainly become more regular visitors.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Right on our doorstep and yet I have not frequented the reserve before. It was so easy to get into the reserve, staff were helpful and friendly and it was a day that was really relaxing to view the game and try to spot those elusive cheetahs. Visit the picknic spot, it is so tranquil but get there early if you want a good spot. The old farm house now operating as a restautant needs some tlc. I see how specific little trinkets can produce a steady flow of cash for the reserve from those who want a souvenir.

Close to town but it feels like a small bush day. We rolled the windows down, followed gravel tracks along the water, and sat quietly when the plains opened up. A white rhino sighting turned the whole car into kids for five minutes. Picnic spots are simple and the light is lovely toward evening. You leave dust-coated and happy.
Keegan R — Google review
It was a pleasant experience. Innitially we only saw a few animals, like ostridge, a fox, and I think its a Hartebees, but then we found an abundance of animals, especially around the Jakkalsdraai road, that is on your right hand side when you enter the main gate. The Zebras were the best because they are playfull. Also Wildebeest. The scenery is beautiful. It felt as if we were in the bosveld. It was drizzling, but we were still able to go out with raincoats, whereever we were allowed to exit the vehicle. The Lookout stations were topnotch, it was sponsored by "friends of Rietvlei".Unfortunately we couldn't see hippos. . We ordered an omelette at the restaurant/house with memorabillia dated back to the 1900's. I think it's best if you pre- book with the wildlife rangers, they know all the hotspots. I will surely go back again, cause you can braai at the picnic site
Marius G — Google review
We had a wonderful time here. Saw quite a few different animals. Roads are also in good condition for all types of vehicles which is a big plus! We stopped at the coffee shop which served some really great food. Next time we will make use of the lovely braai facilities.

Great market in Pretoria, wonderful vendors like Spout and The Veggie Brothers where you can enjoy a coffee and pastry or stock up on your produce for the week. Lots of local food options if you're hungry! The sun might be annoying, so don't forget your SPF and a hat as you walk around, there is plenty of shaded seating though and parking is easy with helpful car guards.

First time visiting and loved the variety and foods. Bought all sorts of useful stuff and tried as many different tastes as possible before I nearly burst! It was busy, so parking was a challenge, but people are in and out regularly so just requires some patience. Some stalls sold out quickly so don't wait til later, get it when you see it! Will definitely be back for more!

Thai embassy hosted a Thai food festival. Food was absolutely delicious. Many different Thai dishes were available. The market has great food and a lot of amazing handmade craft items available. Park is spacious and a great atmosphere. Foodies paradise.

If you have been a regular supporter of the Hazel Food Market then you might agree that it's not like it use to be. It's still a great Saturday morning outing with the family including the fur family members are also welcome. Food stalls are the main attraction, although there's a wide variety of different products and craft stalls in between. The layout is what puts me off. There is ample security watched parking available. Not wheelchair friendly. Highly recommend visiting them next time you are in the area.

Groenkloof Nature Reserve, located near Pretoria CBD, was established by Paul Kruger in 1895 as South Africa's first nature sanctuary. The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife such as zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe amidst thicket and grasslands. It offers hiking and biking trails as well as guided safaris for visitors of all ages.
Had a brilliant outing with Suzuki Jimny on the 4x4 track. It was really tough, not for the faint hearted though and definitely not a beginner track unless you're with experienced off-roaders who know the ropes and will spot for you. The reserve is clean, beautifully maintained, great braai facilities with lots of shade so I definitely recommend it. Also looks like a popular hiking venue and we did see some game, zebra, giraffe and ostrich, sure there was a lot more we didn't see.

A Serene Escape This tranquil reserve is a true escape from the everyday. Nestled near Benoni, it offers beautifully maintained trails that wind through diverse ecosystems. Whether you're seeking a peaceful stroll or hoping to spot some local wildlife, this spot delivers. It's the perfect place to reconnect with nature and leave feeling refreshed. Highly recommended for a quiet break!

My girlfriends and I visited the nature reserve for horse riding, and we had such a wonderful time! Our guide, Slyvester, was an absolute gem — kind, patient, funny, and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions about the horses with so much enthusiasm and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. He even offered to take pictures for us, which we really appreciated. A memorable outing made even better by great service! You need to make a booking first though.

Nice nature reserve in Pretoria. Apparently the first proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. My son and I did the 10.5 km trail and it took us 3.5 hours (I’m so fit so this included rest stops of around 20 minutes) I would rate the trail as moderate - at the start is a bit climb and then you descend onto a contour path. At the 8km mark there’s another climb and from here on the path is rocky so it’s slower going. We saw zebra, ostriches and a sable antelope. Sunblock and good hat are essential as there’s little shade for most of the walk. Take your own refreshments and food as there’s no place to buy them in the reserve. The parking lot is small so go early. The picnic spots are well equipped with tables, braai stands and water taps.
Wayne S — Google review
This is a beautiful and pristine nature reserve. We didn’t see any animals this time, but we will be back again 💕 We planned to take the white line, but unfortunately the signs were not clear! There are picnic areas and stables in this area. The parking area is not as large as Google reviews say (maybe there weren't many people visiting today, at least that's not what I saw)

Tried the 4x4 trail today, lots of fun, normal 4x4 is fine, you don’t need a lift kit, although on certain section, it would probably encourage more confidence
GRAHAM Y — Google review
We doing the 10km trail. Started at 1245 about 30 min per km. It gets rocky and hilly the last 2km which takes the longest. Do not litter, there are bins along the way. Saw plenty of bottle caps which I picked up and put in bin. We completed at 17:15
Jeetesh K — Google review
R58 pp entrance fee, you pay at the gate before going in and the security guard gives you a map of the trail. My husband and I did the yellow trail (10.5km) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The elevation on the trail was mentally challenging, but we did it! If you are not fit, or have never hiked in your life - it will be very tough but it's doable. I would highly recommend it. We even got to see some animals mid-hike.

Such a lovely place to go with family. I took my nephew and nieces and it was so nice. Ilove how you randomly just meet animals on the way, it brings that fun and anticipation. Absolutely love the place

Really nice local reserve. We did one of the shorter walking routes and saw buck grazing basically in the open, plus lots of bird activity. The paths are clear and mostly easy, with a few light uphills, and there are benches here and there if you want to just sit and watch. It’s quiet enough that you feel “out of town,” but you’re basically still in suburbia. There’s also a little restaurant/tea garden on site which is actually decent for breakfast or coffee after the walk. Parking felt fine and the place is generally clean and looked after. Great for a chilled Saturday morning.
Frank R — Google review
Enjoyable walking trails just challenging enough without being difficult. Takes you through various bush types with a nice bird hide. You can spot duiker, impala, zebra and springbok on the trail as well as running streams. Free entrance and a restaurant on site. But you should book space for the restaurant in advance over weekends as it may be full at times. Great trail to take the kids along.
Fred N — Google review
A nice place to go for a quick or longer walk on a nice sunny day. We have done a shorter walk that takes between 40 - 60 minutes depending on how fast you walk, but we also spent about 90 min, give or take, on another route to sight see a bit, but it can take longer. Note that there are in certain areas steeper inclines, so its not all flat. There is also a restaurant which has nice food and I, for one, loved their onion rings. There is a place for kiddies to play outside the restaurant.
JaKu_Za — Google review
What a gem! There are various hiking trails, differing in length. There are bird hides, various animals and stunning flowers! I'll recommend, if you have time, taking the longer route, don't miss walking next to the stream. There is a restaurant, but it was closed on the day we went.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk or a refreshing outdoor escape, this reserve has it all. The air is crisp, the scenery is stunning, and the atmosphere is pure tranquility. Ditsong Kruger Museum, located in Pretoria, is the former residence of Paul Kruger, the esteemed President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1902. The museum offers a glimpse into 19th-century living through its well-preserved and fully furnished interior. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing Kruger's life and political career, including his exile by the British. The museum showcases personal belongings and period furniture that provide an immersive experience of this significant historical figure's life.
Very interesting and informative, a time traveling experience, a glimpse in a past where technology was very basic and people had to deal with a very different mentality. I love the personal items displayed, objects of everyday life. The guide was incredible, kind, professional, warm and welcoming.

A key piece of SA's history - worth a trip to Pretoria. You'll get some insight into the times and quirks of Kruger; also a great jumping off point to a tour of the modern realities of SA's capital city.
Troy B — Google review
Compact, well-kept house museum that lands the late-19th-century story without dragging on. Rooms are furnished with care, the route flows logically, and the little details (letters, everyday objects) make it feel human. We took our time in the yard afterward and chatted with a helpful staff member who filled in a few gaps. Easy pairing with Church Square and Melrose House for a neat heritage loop.
Shaun B — Google review
An amazing museum with an immaculately preserved house of Paul Kruger. Lots of rooms, not too many visitors, plentiful parking at the back. Staff is friendly and the entrance fee is very reasonable.
Victor W — Google review
We stepped off the street and straight into another century. The house smells faintly of polish and old wood, floors creak in the best way, and rooms are set as if someone just left for a meeting. A guide walked us through at an easy pace—study, bedroom, dining room—pointing out small details you’d miss on your own: worn armrests, family photos, a clock that still works when wound. It feels like a lived-in home first, a museum second. Out back we wandered the yard and took a minute by the verandah to let it all settle. You get everyday history here—the cups, the coats, the view down the garden—rather than just dates and names. We left with a clearer picture of the time and a few favourite corners we kept talking about on the drive home. Simple visit, nicely kept, and worth an unhurried hour.

Melrose House Museum, a grand Victorian mansion built in 1886, offers visitors a chance to step back in time to the late 19th century. This historical gem played a significant role during the Second Boer War and was where the Treaty of Vereeniging, ending the war, was signed in 1902. The elegant three-story mansion boasts traditional decor and offers audio-guided tours for an immersive experience.
Though it was closed temporally, I was allowed to walk around the beautiful garden. There was a toilet for visitors.

An interesting house museum to visit with rich history on a Victorian home where the treaty for the end of the Anglo-Boer war was signed. The visit can take between 30 to 40 minutes. Some places in the house have QR codes that provide more information on the displays in the museum.
Gabriel K — Google review
Stepping inside feels like time travel. Patterned ceilings, heavy drapes, and quiet rooms where you notice tiny things like worn stair rails and old photos on side tables. We wandered slowly, reading the room cards and peeking into corners. The garden’s a calm breather afterward, with enough shade to sit and chat before heading back to the street.
Patrick L — Google review
The museum was closed when we arrived. The building itself looks quaint. I was told it was the place where the peace treaty between the English and the Boer was signed. More interesting looked the parc infront of it I have to admit. I feel like I wouldn’t have missed anything if I hadn’t seen this…

🏛️ Melrose House Museum in Pretoria is a captivating portal into South Africa’s Victorian past. From the moment you step inside, the elegance of 19th-century architecture and decor surrounds you—stained glass windows, antique furnishings, and historically rich rooms that once hosted the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging in 1902. The museum’s preservation is impressive, offering visitors a thoughtful and immersive experience, whether through guided tours or quiet exploration. Nestled beside Burgers Park, it’s a serene and culturally significant gem that earns high praise for its authenticity and historical depth.

Home to over 170 species of vibrant birds, including the white-breasted cormorant and Egyptian geese, this sanctuary offers guided tours and an exhibition hall for visitors to explore.
We parked, strolled to the hide, and let the water do the work. Ducks, herons, and a steady stream of small surprises. Coffee at the restaurant next door made it feel like a proper pause in the day.
Patrick L — Google review
Visited today again after 5 years, i was scared away after the attacks at the hide and cars being stolen. Security has now been introduced, and new fencing with entry-gate that they control has been erected. You have too sign in now. The hide is still in a great condition and well looked after. Sadly the birdlife-sightings is very low and many summer-birds is gone that was always easy too see/photograph in the "old"days. Water is very muddy/dirty, with lots of algy growing/floating on the surface. Was wandering what the reason could be, as Pta has lots of rain recently.
Samuel D — Google review
Nice bird hide, nice place to visit. Do struggle to get access to the rest of the park as you apparently need an appointment, but the document at the gate states you only need appointments for guided tours. Think summer months will be better to visit as bird activity isn't great. Update: the bird life changes from day to day, some days i see nothing special other days i get kingfishers

The Pretoria Art Museum, established in 1964, is a prominent gallery located in Arcadia. Originally built to house the city's art collection, it now primarily focuses on South African works including pieces by renowned artists such as Hugo Naude, Henk Pierneef, Irma Stern and Maggie Loubser. While it also features international art, its main emphasis is on South African art.
Wow. I loved it. The art is fabulous. I especially enjoyed the pottery and sculptures. It's well run and beautifully laid out. There is a collection of old international artists, as well as many local artists. Do yourself a favour and visit here. I could have spent all day. The only downside is they only accept cash, so come prepared.

The permanent collection is so beautiful. There is a good mixed-media exhibition by Thomas and Neo in the furthest part of the building and there is some truly exciting works in the Sasol Signatures exhibition. On a different note, City of Tshwane should attend to the grounds and the building, it cannot look like it currently looks
Chantelle E — Google review
A tidy, manageable collection that you can actually take in. The mix of South African modern and contemporary work is well presented, and the staff helped us map a sensible route in under two minutes. Good lighting, clear labels, and enough benches to pause. We spent around 90 minutes and didn’t feel rushed. Pair it with a walk in the nearby park or a café stop. If you like art but hate sprawling museums, this is a good fit.

An awesome space, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Adult Entry Fee : R25 - Worth the experience! Friendly and helpful staff. I would’ve personally liked more of the artworks to have a written explanation about the pieces or about the artist. I learned a lot about South African artists and look forward to visiting the museum again!

The art is good. The museum itself is not looked after. So much potential
Chris B — Google review
The place needs maintenance services from the outside, honestly! 🙄 There's a small fee to pay (discounted when you bring your student card). 🙃 The museum does have variety of themes they cover but only 4 are the biggest. Out of the 4 themes only one stood out for me personally. Some of the displayed art is rather disappointing but it is still worth checking out. I'm just sharing so one wouldn't be disappointed due to high expectations. There are sculptures and ceramics too. Oh what I really found to be cool was/ still is the art equipment/ stationery etc. With that one can refine their art using different tools or whatever....

Beautiful, rich experience. The museum is huge and well taken care off. I would suggest more lighting, tho. There were quite a few exhibitions that weren’t lit (we had to use our phone flashlights).
Kaylee K — Google review
The Ditsong National Museum of Natural History in Pretoria gave me the feeling of a melancholy crypt of bygone glory. Getting there was difficult. A shell game with parking spaces. According to the cashier, there's one somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but unfortunately, we couldn't find it. Inside, one experienced the grand funeral of museum culture: dark as limbo, dirty as a bus stop, and exhibitions that sometimes look as if they were cobbled together by a bored intern. Signage and explanations are lacking. The most bizarre highlight was the "before and after" show of a pigeon that had flown into a running airplane turbine. The pulverization experiment was a success. You can sense that there was once plenty of money here, passion, and pride. Today, one can write studies on decay in fast-forward. Three stars because it used to be beautiful and I like museums – but the rest is unfortunately just fossils from a better time.

Ditsong National Museum of History is a great and peaceful place to visit, not forgetting the educational part of it. The exhibits were well-curated and informative, with clear signage and engaging storytelling. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure that visitors had a comfortable and enriching experience. I appreciated the variety of exhibits, from natural history to cultural heritage, which provided a comprehensive understanding of our rich history. The museum's facilities were clean and well-maintained, making for a pleasant visit. The atmosphere was calm and conducive to learning, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the exhibits. I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history and science. Whether you're a student, a history buff, or just curious about the world around you, Ditsong National Museum of History is a must-visit destination. The museum's ability to balance entertainment and education makes it an excellent choice for families and groups. Overall, my visit to Ditsong National Museum of History was an enriching experience that I will always treasure. What i love the moat about Ditsong museum  is that it is kids friendly, they get to see all the inhabitants  and their  history. Much better than I expected. The aircraft and armour are in excellent condition, and the exhibits strike a good balance between big hardware and human stories. Nestled just an hour and a half from Pretoria, the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre is a remarkable sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of cheetahs and other endangered species. Established in 1971 by Ann van Dyk, this non-profit facility has made significant strides in breeding efforts, successfully increasing the population of cheetahs from a mere 700 in South Africa at its inception to around 600 bred within its walls.
I visited the Centre with my brother and a friend, and it was honestly such a great experience. From the moment we arrived, Nicki greeted us with a warm smile, which made us feel really welcome right away. Our guide, Sam, was fantastic! Super friendly, full of interesting facts, and he had us laughing the whole time with his jokes. He made the tour so fun and engaging—we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. The animals are clearly very well looked after. The cheetahs were definitely a highlight—such beautiful, powerful animals, and it’s obvious they’re in the best hands. We also loved seeing the wild dogs, meerkats, and hyenas up close. Each one had its own charm, and it was amazing to learn more about them. I’d definitely recommend visiting the Centre. It’s one of those experiences you won’t forget!

As frequently travelers, we’ve visited numerous centres & seen many animals. We were MOST impressed as to how healthy & well-fed these animals were…something we’ve not always seen! I give highest marks to this centre & staff for their obvious dedication and care. This centre is definitely worth visiting!

I love how the trail is well marked, one can never miss the route or get lost. Really loved and enjoyed the scenic views. I recommend that you pack a snack and hydration as you'll need these.

We did the 5km Zebra trail. Its advertised as easy - Moderate... the first 2km is uphill and hard! The last 3km is downhill and easy. Roads are clearly marked and trails are well looked after. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Cross the river via bridge or cable car! Very cool! Take loads of fluid!
Riaan G — Google review
(Krokodilberg 10km) A real gem close to Harties. Great for trail running. Plenty of places to rest and take in the views of the gorges and hills and beautiful lush valleys. Well maintained and marked.
Jaco G — Google review
Did the 10km trail. Feels like a 20km - lots of climbing and steep downhills. There are 2 escape routes along the trail because it can get treacherous. You have to be very fit for this trail and have the proper hiking gear etc. Some nice suspension bridges along the river. Take lots of water and snacks.
Kerusha P — Google review
It was fairly difficult for me because I'm honestly unfit, however its a great hiking trail. No animals to see. You get to see the Hennops river and other beautiful sceneries. There is a cable car that requires man power which I unfortunately didn't get to go on but it looked fun. Overall I would definitely recommend this trail.
Nicole M — Google review
I enjoy this trail a lot. I find it challenging, and i love how they have multiple warning signs and escape routes along the way 😅 I generally walk the 10km, and it's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. My favourite spot is the cave. If you choose to go down there, the view of the river is spectacular from there (the video attached). It's a really good workout, would highly recommend for a nice challenge. They have different trail lengths, and you can either use the cable car or bridge to cross the river on the way back (I'd suggest the cable car - but you have to pull it yourslef to get to the other side). The place does get very busy, they also have picnic and braai areas where people can chill when done (i haven't been)
NkeleK — Google review
Easy to locate, beautiful views. Staff is friendly and helpful. The hiking trail is well maintained and marked.
Lorainne N — Google review
The place is beautiful and the water sounds makes I even better. We did a 5km trail and it was awesome, wished we did the 10km instead. We then hung out at the picnic area and all in all it was an awesome experience.

The market is not just about shopping; it's a celebration of Pretoria's diverse culture with live music, DJ beats, and an energetic atmosphere that brings the community together. This vibrant event showcases local entrepreneurs, designers, artists, and musicians for a full day of entertainment.
I loved the atmosphere; good food; good music; great company from different people. Almost everyone is there to have a good time and interact with new people. It's safe and child friendly environment, it's a full package for the whole family.

Very viby with some nice food stalls and crafty shops when I was there for an event. Had amazing musicians playing on multiple stages

Absolutely a beautiful space to mingle and socialise. The one thing that stood out for me was that their cocktails were really good 10/10.Their bathrooms were clean. Live performances 10/10 too! The downside about the event is that it is actually not child friendly there’s a lot of alcohol consumption and people smoking hubbly. Most of the things being sold are overpriced including food & drinks! If you’re a lover of anything artsy you will definitely enjoy it. Review based on the event that took place 06 August 2022.

Wonderful space. An oasis in the middle of a busy town. Its surprisingly spacious, with a stalls area where live bands perform, an outside area where kids can also play, as well as a beer hall where you can watch sports if you want. The free parking was a plus. The only thing I'd like to see is more beer variety. There were no craft beers or taps, just a few mainstream beers and ciders. Overall I'd recommend it. Will be going back again.

Market @ the sheds is one of the sought after markets located in the Pretoria's central business district, in the heart of Pretoria. All sorts of items are sold ranging from beauty products, accessories & jewellery, clothing, food & beverages and a whole lot more. There's a live band playing music. The place is buzzing with people from all South African races. It's a melting pot of traditional and modern culture, it's the essence of South Africa. It's the first liveliest market I've ever been to which I attend every end of the month. The dates are announced on their website. Because there's entertainment, there's an entrance fee after a certain time of the day. The market is between 11am to 6pm. There's secured parking available with a boom gate and a security. There's also a ramp access for those using a wheel chair.

A kaleidoscope of art music fashion in the Pretoria CBD! I think this is an impressive revival of the downtown art and music scene. Was truly an amazing experience!! A good variety of food. Beautiful displays of african fabrics, jewelry, art and fashion for sale. the music was phenomenal the vibe was everything! #IndianSummer

A very diverse market place where you can find different items of clothing. They also sell exotic food. You can even find food from Taiwan there. Sometimes there is a main even where an artist goes on stage to perform during the market hours. You can bring your own hubbly there to smoke. The entrance fee is R50.

Ditsong National Museum of Cultural History, situated in the historic Old Mint on Visagie Street in Pretoria, offers a captivating exploration of South Africa's rich cultural diversity. The museum showcases a wide range of exhibits, including regional archaeological finds, rock paintings and engravings from the Stone Age and Iron Age, as well as an art gallery featuring sculptures, paintings, and crafts that provide an overview of South African culture through time.
Beautiful museum Bit old, and smelly 😂 but that’s just museums Some maintenance could be done to fix buttons, lifts etc. Overall very informative
Rhiitha N — Google review
First time in Pretoria, and a bit sad to see our cultural history not better taken care of. The building is decrepid with bird shit all over the atrium. The exhibits themselves are really really interesting, but the lighting is so poor one can barely see anything. It was really sad to see the photographic exhibition not even properly lit. Please do better!
Wayne S — Google review
We accidentally ended up in the wrong museum; there are two other Ditsong museums right around the corner. I actually wanted to go to the Natural Science Museum, but instead found myself stuck among spear-throwing dioramas, dusty glass display cases, and a darkroom for abandoned exhibitions. The contents and exhibits weren't bad at all. Hunting techniques, everyday objects, colonial kitsch. Unfortunately, they were barely visible because the lighting apparently came from the same budget as the last museum renovation promises. The photography exhibition by a brilliant artist was treated so poorly that you needed a flashlight to even make out contours. Highlight: products from the apartheid era. Nicely presented in photo frames. In ZA, there was hardly any domestic production; almost everything was imported. The museum was culturally educational, but rather tragic in terms of museums.
Tilman B — Google review
This museum has so much to offer, yet it is unfortunately falling into decay through neglect and lack of love for the heritage it could inspire… lights in displays not working, no visitors, dark and dirty corners…visitors book full of graffiti…

Highly educational exhibitions are on show and are regularly changed. In addition, one can rent the venue for functions. Beautiful lighting and there is a professional events company ensuring smooth running of functions. Good for the whole family and school visits. Wheelchair-friendly main entrance and facilities.

What a museum to be at! Rich with traditional history and archives. One part I liked the most was the remake of Marabastad and how it was depicted. I loved the history of media and the South African orders as displayed. I'm so looking forward to visiting there once more or maybe visit the Nature museum first before making a return? I'll see...

Nestled in Irene, a suburb of Pretoria, the Jan Smuts House Museum was once the home of Jan Christian Smuts, a prominent figure in South African history. As a three-time prime minister and influential leader during the South African War and World Wars I and II, he played a key role in establishing the League of Nations. Despite his military background, Smuts was dedicated to promoting peace.
5/5 stars! I'm so lucky to have discovered the Jan Smuts Museum! As a regular photographer here I've had the pleasure of getting to know the team and experiencing all that this beautiful venue has to offer. The museum itself is steeped in history and is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about Jan Smuts' life and legacy. But it's not just the museum that makes this place special - the cozy little coffee shop is the perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee and relax and the beautiful hiking trail offers breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature. As a photographer I can attest that this is the perfect place for outdoor photoshoots - the scenery is stunning and the team is always accommodating and helpful. I feel like part of the family here and I highly recommend the Jan Smuts Museum to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience! Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover or just looking for a beautiful spot to relax, this place has something for everyone.

Very much an old school museum, where a lot of things are well preserved. It nonetheless seems as if it could do with a bit of TLC and don’t expect too much active or interactive displays. The most remarkable thing is to see what modest life Jan Smuts must have led, despite the impact he’s had on world history. Serious Jan Smuts fans are sure to spend many hours there. The museum is well recommended for anyone that has even just a little interest in South African history.

We went here for our maternity shoot, and it's so beautiful. 100% recommend I suggest using The Kaalvoet Photographer for any photos needs

The house feels lived-in, not staged, which makes the history land better. Rooms are full of books, personal objects, and small details that guides explain with warmth. The grounds are lovely for a slow loop afterward, with benches under generous trees. It’s an easy, unrushed hour or two. The on-site tea garden is a nice finish if you’re in weekend mode. I’d bring out-of-town visitors here—simple, authentic, and quietly memorable.

If you're on the lookout for an exhilarating outdoor adventure, Acrobranch Pretoria North is a must-visit destination. Nestled in lush greenery, this treetop park offers a thrilling experience for both children and adults as they navigate through various obstacle courses designed to suit different age groups and fitness levels. Picture yourself soaring through the air on zip lines, balancing on wooden walkways, and climbing rope ladders high above the ground—it's an adrenaline rush like no other!
We all did the blue course. Challenging and fun. Thelma was a fantastic and patient guide, assisting myself and my 14yr old daughter who are very scared of heights. The cables and obstacles are strong and well built holding my 116kg hubby. Although December and cloudy rainy weather, it was beautiful and peaceful up in the trees. You can also opt to zipline through some of the obstacles. The big zip was great fun for all of us. Would definitely recommend for the adventurous family👌

Fort Klapperkop, a 19th-century German fort located at the top of the Klapperkop Nature Reserve, offers a glimpse into the history of the Anglo-Boer War. Restored to its original state, it showcases defensive fortifications and exhibits military memorabilia, rifles, and furniture from that era. The surrounding area has been declared a nature reserve with opportunities for game spotting.
I was fascinated to know about the Anglo boer war, a lot I didn't know about, the peak was wonderful, you literally see the whole Pretoria plus the zebra's were fun to look at
Linda S — Google review
On 18 May each year, Museums around the world celebrate International Museum Day. The City of Tshwane Metro hosts has a significant number of museums of various descriptions, including art, history, science, or natural history. Fort Klapperkop Military Museum was my first option. Located within the Klapperkop Nature Reserve, it is easily accessible. The Fort has apparently been restored, but needs more TLC. Historical artifacts are mostly in good nick, and the premises are under Municipal supervision. The history of the "Pretoria Forts" is interesting. Wikipedia is helpful to gain insight. In the years preceding the Anglo-Boer War (1899 -1901) the then ZAR government, commissioned engineers to construct four forts (of the eight that were apparently planned) around Pretoria to defend their capital city: Fort Wonderboompoort (completed Sep 1897) in the north, Fort Daspoortrand, also called Westfort (Nov 1898) towards the west of the city. The military fort should not be confused with 'Westfort Village', which is a settlement that grew up around it and was associated with a leprosy hospital. Fort Klapperkop (Jan 1898) and Fort Schanskop (April 1897) a short distance on the hill opposite Klapperkop, and in close proximity to the Voortrekker Monument (VTM), were built to defend the key southern entrance into Pretoria. Fort Klapperkop was built using stone from the site itself and has an empty moat around it. Fort Daspoortrand (a.k.a. Westfort) was hexagonal (French design) in shape, while the other three were pentagonal (German design). Despite the fortifications being built, Pretoria was taken by British forces, and occupied on 5 June 1900. In 1938, the two southern forts were declared provincial heritage sites. Fort Klapperkop was restored in 1966 and converted to a military museum, and Fort Schanskop followed in 1978. Both are open (2025) under supervision to visitors. The other two forts have sadly fallen into disrepair. Had a warm reception at the fort, and felt safe. Stairs to the top might be daunting, but staff offer those with mobility challenges the alternative of driving up close to the huge steel doors. Had a great visit, and shall continue the quest.

The hiking routes aren't amazing and there's not a lot of shade, but overall the place is worth a visit thanks to the beautiful views of Pretoria it offers. I also saw some zebras along the way, and there are benches at all the lookout spots making for a nice picnic environment. There is security and the fort/monument is also worth seeing.
Henning L — Google review
Bit of a hill, big payoff. Old ramparts, artillery pieces, and a long view over the city that makes you pause. We did a slow lap around the fort, read a few panels, and then just stood in the wind watching the suburbs and highways stretch out.

The Main reason my guest-friend and I visited: her last morning, before flying back the evening, after 2+ weeks business-trip in South Africa. Her annually gift and African place mats, cloths, mugs, souvenir shopping. As her hostess, landlady, she spoiled me with amazing gifts, from avos, chilli sauces, olives, artichokes from the Olive Lady, an artistic addition to my health kitchen corner : grating plate - so much to do - (name on bottom of the plate): I use it every single day, grinding my fresh ginger, garlic, carrot, nuts, lemon orange peel, for home made salad dressings, and sauces. I love the vibe. She came all the way from Czechoslovakia, to show me the Irene village market 😎 (I was not here, but at Ludwig roses, longgg ago.) When lunch time came. The Vegetarian Food for me was easy to find, not in wrap, but plated, next to the Olive Ladies stall... (from carnivor keto to under supervision wellness eating plan) it was Great fresh food💞 Steak roll for her, and beer. She loved it. Wine tasting, few bottles were 'exported' that day, as gifts 😁🍷 Love love Love the bench we ate at, shared with a Mom and her young children, (all cyclists) while they were sipping on what looked like bubble tea 😍 introducing ourselves to each other, and Mom explained to the children that shown interest.. where on the map 'this happy, friendly lady, with accent, is from. Her husband and their eldest son arrived from cycling... We just finished our meals, and made space for this beautiful Family meetup outing. Stopped at Ludwig Rose's on our way out... I was blessed with another gift, Iceberg standard (deep purple wine colour) to plant in my 'being created herb garden' Such a fun and memory making day, under the plenty trees, in nature, and under sunny African Sky. Thank you for an Amazing Outdoor Quality market for young, old, fit to wheelchairs, doggies and all. Proudly South African 👌 Will be back soon.

Beautiful little nature reserve. We came here many times about 30 years ago, and probably never realised what gem this is. And it is arguably better kept than back in the day - I even saw some impala roaming. Entrance fee is only R21 and gives you the opportunity to experience a unique piece of nature in the middle of the city.

This is a great hiking/ trail to walk. Different routes for different fitness levels witch is great. One can easily walk with children, dogs , family or run if you come for exercise. It's really available as well. I'm not giving a 5 star as I feel staff and management can better. Otherwise a wonderful place.

The Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is a good place to go for a weekend walk with friends. There are also allocated areas for picnics if that's something you'd like to do. I enjoyed the 4.5km hike/walk that takes you up onto the mountain. My friends and I were lucky enough to see some zebras up close as well. You should definitely give the reservation a try.

So we decided to do the 4,1 km trail, easypeazy, not by far. It is a well outlaid track. The steep down hills is tough on the knees. The sight seeing from the top is excellent. Next time I'll take binoculars with. I noticed there will be a river cleaning exercise somewhere in July. Well worthwhile.
Marius G — Google review
Some challenging hills on the 4.2km Kiepersol trail (longest and rated ‘difficult’) with great views at the top. The second hill summit can be bypassed or reached by a ‘scramble track’ but a lack of signage near the very top can lead to walking around it rather than onto the rocky top. Very rocky paths at times on the hills so walk carefully, especially going downhill. We spotted a Zebra family down on the ‘flat’ from the Faerie Glen Lookout and they were still there when we came down. Toilet facilities are in the entrance building only.
David G — Google review
If you want a quick hike without driving far, this is the one. The trails are short but some bits are steeper than they look, so you do feel like you earned the view at the top. From the ridge you can see across Pretoria East, which is pretty cool for the effort. We spotted a couple of small antelope and loads of birds. You do need proper shoes and water, especially in the hotter hours, because parts of the path are rocky and open sun. It’s also dog-friendly in certain areas (on lead), which is a win. Parking was straightforward and staff at the gate were friendly. I’d go again.

I recently visited Faerie Glen Nature Reserve with my boyfriend, and we had a fantastic time! This hidden gem is a wonderful spot to connect with nature, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. The best part? The beautifully scenic views and tranquil atmosphere made for a lovely outing. We appreciated the clear instructions and signage along the trails, which showed that the reserve was well-maintained and cared for. I recommend Faerie Glen Nature Reserve for a relaxing and enjoyable day out in nature!

Zita Park, located in Garsfontein, Pretoria, offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. The park features sprawling lawns surrounded by trees, making it perfect for leisurely walks and picnics. Children can enjoy the playground with jungle gyms and slides while also having access to a splash pool and water slide. The park is dog-friendly and has clean restrooms available on-site.
Love this beautifully maintained, secure, family friendly park. More than happy to pay the nominal entrance fee (less than R10) to enjoy the clean, wide open spaces. There is also a pool and water slide for the kids. Soccer goals and netball rings. Plenty of playground jungle gyms for all the kids and ample shaded areas to enjoy a relaxing pic-nic.

We usually love coming here, but lately the park has not been maintained. We pay to come into a place that has such long grass that I am afraid of snakes and it’s actually just dangerous for the young ones. I just think it’s a waste of money to pay to come into a place that’s not maintained!
Francois O — Google review
It is nice having a park that is reasonably priced where one can take the kids to run around. The pool is currently out of order and we didn't use the toilets. I was there with a toddler under 2, so my experience may be different to others. There were lots of plastic pieces around the table where we sat which is dangerous for little ones, but that is probably related more to people visiting the park and not cleaning up after themselves as there are multiple bins available. The grass was a bit long, but some patches were recently cut. The playground is also more suited for kids over 5
Anastasha M — Google review
It's a cute, lovely and quiet park for a relaxed afternoon with friends or family. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. It appears to be a neighbourhood park, for the residents of Garsfontein, which has now been fenced for order and security. It has goal posts for soccer as well as swings and see-saws for the kids. There are security guards at the park. Good place! So happy to see that there are still public parks in good condition, it's up to us to keep it that way.
Awande Z — Google review
Great little park, kept clean, and with a nice, helpful staff. The water slide in summer is awesome for kiddos
Joe D — Google review
This is my sons favourite place. Definitely a go to for families, there is plenty of space to sit down and have a picnic. I’m not too sure if you are allowed to braai but do ask the staff. Bring your own camp chairs and picnic blankets to have the good experience. A picnic umbrella is always plus especially if all the shaded areas are taken in this extreme heat. The “toddler pool” is always clean along with the water slide. The monkey bars and other park equipment may need to be maintained as not all of them are working efficiently. I would suggest the park build another pool which can accommodate older kids, teenagers and adults I find that when it’s too full everyone wants to jump in the pool that’s meant for the young ones. The lifeguards are visible and stay within range in case any life threatening issues arise. Alcohol is not allowed on the premises but I respect that because adults tend to get a little bit intolerant after a few drinks. The entry price ranges from R5 - R10, I think it’s R10 for adults I’m not too sure. If you and your family want a cost effective place to have fun and relax during weekdays and weekends I would definitely recommend Zita park. I wish their working hours could be extended a bit more. My son always gets disappointed when he hears the life guards blow the whistle at 4:30pm lol.

Lovely, clean, well maintained park! Enjoy a picnic under the big trees! Ns: no tuck shop, but a friendly man selling ice cream 😉

I have enjoyed the visit. I loved the atmosphere in the park. The park is a perfect place for children to play and for parents to unwind. The children enjoy the jungle gyms and their swimming pool with a slide. There is a life guard who is looking after the children as they use the slide. There is enough trees for shade and picnics.

The Nelson Mandela Statue, unveiled on the Day of Reconciliation in 2013 at the Union Buildings, stands as a towering nine-meter bronze tribute to the iconic leader. Positioned at the very site of his inauguration as South Africa's first democratically elected president, this larger-than-life sculpture captures Mandela with outstretched arms and his characteristic smile. Surrounded by indigenous South African flora and other notable statues, it serves as a powerful reminder of history and resilience.
Had an opportunity to visit the Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa. The statue is stunning overlooking the city. Definitely worth a visit.

It's worth the visit and being able to appreciate the historic journey he made. However....and maybe a sign of current times....Be prepared to be ID checked in the national park and see how quickly the streets around the manicured formal gardens fall into disrepair and neglect...

Historical place, must visit when you are in capital city Pretoria. Unfortunate they are not allow you to go into to the building. You can view whole Pretoria City as well. Must take the picture with great leader, Mandela.

The Intiem Love Bridge in Pretoria has become a popular romantic landmark where couples can leave engraved locks as a symbol of their eternal love. Located near the city center, the bridge overlooks a serene stream and is surrounded by shaded benches, making it an ideal spot for couples to visit. Visitors can bring their own padlocks with their names written on them and attach them to one side of the bridge, signifying their commitment to each other.
What a novel way to share one's love! Magnolia Dell Park is also beautifully maintained with more than enough space for a romantic stroll and playground equipment for the little ones while you enjoy a variety of refreshments at Huckleberrys. It's definitely one for a repeat visit...and take a lock!
Sheila N — Google review
Beautiful sight of lovers tight together in a form of padlock-knots at Magnolia Dell... It would be interesting to hear what is it that the lovers do with the key😅 I wonder if there's been an incedent where either of the lovers came to unlock or cut the padlock - Lordforbid! 😂 #Togetherforever Bridge... If I'm to rename the idea. Thanks.

What a great experience! We made our contribution to the Intiem Love bridge by adding a lock simbolising eternal love last week. It was so special and I highly encourage couples to make their own contribution by adding their lock to the bridge and tossing the key in the river below. What a great idea!

Market stalls small in number but some real gems available such as jams, marmalades and food. Best chicken prego i can remember. Strongly recommend you visit next market day.

Absolute amazing time piece. Amazing staff and a very haunted house. Been here twice in 1 Month. We will be back again soon. So much history. Absolute amazing
PixelPrecisionmrkts P — Google review
Sammy Marks is technically a bit outside central Pretoria, but it’s a favourite. The house is almost frozen in time, with original furniture, décor and personal items still in place. A guided tour gives you all the stories about the family and the business side, and it turns into a nice mix of gossip and history. The grounds are also pretty – large lawns, trees, and a very “old estate” feel. We did the tour and then sat outside with something to drink, and it felt like we’d gone much further out into the countryside than we actually had.
Charles W — Google review
The drive out is short and worth it. The house is elegant without feeling roped off, and the guided tour adds stories that make the rooms stick in your head. We lingered on the veranda, looked over the lawns, and then walked the grounds. Tea in the garden rounded it off perfectly.

Very interesting to visit this Victorian museum. Guided tour. Tea garden on property as well offering light meals at an affordable price. I recently had my birthday there and they provide picnic baskets. You can choose to sit at tables under the trees or blankets on the grass. Lovely setting and ideal for families with children.

The amount of history in this house is incredible, the house is beautiful and very close to how it originally was. The tea garden is unfortunately very basic with few items on offer, and the garden has fallen from it's original glory, however still worth a see.

Safe, creative vibe, great food and drinks, interactive musical fun for all. Easy to get to (just down Garstfontein Rd). Musical instruments for hire, or bring your own. Regular special events and workshops held. Shop available for instruments, clothing, etc to complete your vibe. Great idea for team building.

He even gave this winning team and their partners a free drumming session voucher. We will be sure to host a function there again.

Klitsgras drumming is a must do. Extremely interactive, fun and good vibes. People come together to share the same vibe. Rent a small drum for R50, large drum for R150. Sit around the bonfire and enjoy. The first hour or so, they teach everyone in the circle how to drum by displaying it and having you try after they display. Yes, there is an entrance fee for the drumming usually, about R100 normally, could be more or less. There is bar/ restaurant area where woodfire pizzas are made, beers etc are available also. Klitsgras is the place to unwind and let go. It gives you a sense of freedom. Fire manipulators or whatever they are called also come there, giving everyone a free show. If you dont want to join the drumming circle, theres also the 'yard' area where you can hang around with randomly placed standing firepits. I would recommend going here if you have never been.
Michelle G — Google review
Surrounded by most friendly people ,passionate about what they do , I highly recommend coming here for a unique and relaxing experience. Check on their website to visit them when a celebration/festival will be held, with a live band and more. You can acquire drinks with vodka and brandy specials, delicious R&R that is fitting for the setting . Ethnic Oriental food can be ordered, as well as delicious pizza ,made in a wood burning pizza oven. I presume you can even find some grass along your ruite if you are so inclined. A most relaxing atmosphere, listening to constant drums or beautiful music as you mingle , eat pizza ,enjoy drinks and gaze at fire dancing performers . Playing African drums in unison into the night ,with froggies in a pond chanting along, an interesting experience indeed. Vibes.

What a lovely experience for first timers. Staff was helpful in explaining everything and answering all the questions we had. Super supportive and encouraging as well. Drinks on sale on premise which helps on a hot day. Would most definitely do it again. What a challenging activity! ** Slightly difficult to get to owing to (1) gravel roads (3km) (2) business is within gated farms. Need to call at least twice upon entry for access. ** At least 5 friendly dogs on the premises.

Our birthday girl chose an adventurous 7th birthday here. What a wonderful day full of fun and tons of adventure. The atmosphere was full of anticipation and the promise of adventure left an electric sparkle... The party kicked off the day with turns on the jungle gyms and ‘foefie’ slide. Then they took on the go-karting track. The session was kicked off with safety rules and demonstration how to handle the go-cart, even the least adventurous was coaxed with a lot of patience to participate and everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. The drivers showed their skills to applause and encouragement of the spectators Then it was time to tackle the climbing walls. Once again, the session was kicked off with safety rules and harnessing, the guides led the climbers with a lot of patience and encouragement to master the wall and enable the climbers to be real spider monkeys! The day ended with delicious boerewors rolls that everyone hungrily devoured and pudding was of course birthday cake or rather cupcakes. The day ended too quickly, it was time to go home tired but happy. Congratulations to the owners and every guide, for their patience and who made the day extra special for the adventurous as well as the more timid party goers. This is a place to keep in mind for a party or team building, there is so much more to enjoy here than I have written about. There is something for adults, youth and children alike.

Visitors can explore the expansive rose farm on a complimentary tractor ride and wander through the nursery. The onsite Rose Kitchen offers a delightful dining experience with rose-flavored treats, while the shop sells an array of rose-themed products and souvenirs. It's an ideal spot for couples seeking a tranquil outing surrounded by the beauty and fragrance of blooming roses.
As a photographer, I love this place, which is the only place I can feel free to take photos of the beautiful roses and birds and bees. Definitely the most friendly people that work there, and the fact that you can buy roses and eat and have nice craft beer I really enjoy the beauty to smell and see a field of roses.

Beautiful rose farm just outside of Pretoria. Worth the drive. Wide selection of beautiful roses. They have a restaurant on site as well as a little shop. Dont be in a rush at the restaurant. They are not McDonalds. Relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. They can get very busy over a weekend especially if its the rose festival. Friendly staff. Undercover sand play area for the kids. Clean bathrooms. Nursery staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Nelson has assisted us multiple times over our visits and he is helpful, kind and willing to give his recommendations on what roses are top picks. You can buy bags of substrates, pots of various sizes and fertilisers (home brand). Enjoy a tractor ride through the rose fields (weekends) at no charge.

The farm is big with lots of different roses. The farm workers are friendly and helpful 🌸 The restaurant strikes the perfect balance between rustic and vintage. The menu is very limited, it’s simple with just a few dishes. We tried chicken and beef burgers, they were delicious 💯 The restaurant is huge with options of seating inside or outside (beautiful view) and playground for kids. It’s ideal for casual functions 🌸 Our server was kinda impatient with us. Some of the staff worked seamlessly to create a seamless dining experience for other customers 🌹

Go there for roses, all shapes and sizes, but do not forget to do a little walk around first, have a meal and chat to staff. A perfect play area for kiddies, shaded, and place for mom and dad to sit and rest. The staff knows their roses and problems that might arise. Reckson assisted us and once he understood what we wanted, he offered us various options within our requirements, cut us heads so we can see what they look like and gave advise on where and how to plant. It is amazing to have this so close to us and then such excelent service to top it all off.

Absolutely worth a visit even though there are no roses in bloom. Can spend the entire morning just chilling in the lovely venue.

WOW! I had the most amazing experience at Acrobranch Centurion today with my family. Every single staff member from the ladies at the front desk to the instructors were so professional and friendly. This really helped in making the experience even better. Our main instructor, Tony, was the absolute best from start to finish and he was so helpful and patient throughout the course. Our second instructor, Bafana, was on the ground making sure everything ran smoothly. There is also live music on Sundays which was such a lovely addition while we had lunch at the restaurant. South of Pretoria, there's a climbing park that keeps little adventurers so busy that you can even enjoy a coffee in peace. Well, if someone didn't keep shouting "Look!" The scenery is postcard-pretty, with five courses for any amount of megalomania, but is your child under seven? Then it's time for the beginners' course and the realization that attempts at negotiation haven't really worked. Probably also a reason for the high level of security. Great, even helicopter parents can breathe a sigh of relief here. From suspension bridges to cable cars, everything's there. It's miniature, but with maximum fun. There's plenty of parking, the prices are very fair, and the journey from Pretoria is stress-free. Our little one loved it; we're now counting down the days until her friend finally turns seven and we can go on the next adventure. 5 out of 5 stars for safety-conscious adrenaline on a child's scale.
Tilman B — Google review
It was an exciting and thrilling experience. Very friendly as well as helpful staff. Especially with children. Food was great and prices are affordable. There were meals for breakfast and lunch etc. Would definitely recommend as a family outing and for all the adrenaline junkies. The zip-lines are fun and not too fast and you have different rent courses of difficulty to choose from.
Alexia V — Google review
The activities are amazing. However, what put a damper on the day was the fact that we weren't allowed to bring any food into the area - even though we wanted to book a lapa. The manager of the restaurants made it very clear (she was quite rude about it) that only food bought there could be consumed in the premises. This poses a problem as we're Muslim and the restaurant doesn't serve halaal food. When pointed out she shrugged her shoulders and said she doesn't cater for muslims. In this day and age and with us being such a cosmopolitan nation, this was unacceptable. All we wanted was the lapa - which was empty - to set up the birthdays party.
Aneesa A — Google review
This was our first time visiting Acrobranch Centurion, and sadly, it didn’t go well. We arrived excited but had no idea how the process worked. Instead of being welcomed or guided, we were just told by someone named Betty to stand and wait at the entrance. Every time we tried to ask what was going on or what to expect, she seemed more and more irritated with us. Eventually, I had to speak up about her attitude, but she just ignored us and went back to her laptop. She said she was the manager and that there was no one else we could talk to raise her attitude with us. I asked for someone else and was given the name “Sticks,” but the number we got just went to voicemail. What made it worse was that it felt personal. We noticed that other families, especially of different races, were treated with more kindness and patience. The experience for the kids wasn’t great either. One of the assistants at the yellow course shouted at the children while explaining the rules. It scared my 5-year-old and another child. Instead of making it fun and exciting, it felt harsh and unwelcoming. We were really looking forward to this as it was my sons birthday and his first time trying this, but it ended up being stressful and disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on how we were treated.

We were really looking forward to attending a live performance at the Atterbury Theatre, after our first visit to the Lynnnwood Bridge Shopping Centre recently, when Shrek was billed as a forthcoming attraction for July 2024. The Atterbury Theatre is a fairly intimate venue, with the steep seating arrangement and the gallery providing a good close-up view of the performers on the compact stage. Admission was a breeze, and the foyer was colourfully decorated. I later found that this was done for patrons, mostly kids, taking lovely pictures with some of the cast after the performance. We had in our party a person with a physical disability, and there appeared to be an absence of a facility to enable ease of access into the stepped seating area, apart from a handrail. The performance itself was very good, despite the participation of several very young child actors. The lead roles of Shrek and Fiona were played with aplomb, and the singing by all was excellent. The very good actors in the roles of Donkey, King Farquaad, as well as the Ginger Bread Man also stood out. The young lass that played Ginger Bread Man wowed patrons with her excellent singing. The crowd was entertained with good humour and good messages of friendship and kindness. Costumes were colourful and appropriate to the roles, makeup and prosthetics were excellent, and the props and lighting were functionally effective and looked great on stage. The actors' voice audio could have been better. All in all, it was an enjoyable outing.

Nature & Parks
Jan Cilliers Park, also known as Protea Park or the Fairy Park, is a beloved destination in Pretoria. This family- and pet-friendly park offers jogging trails, lakeside picnic spots, and stunning city views amidst tall indigenous trees. It's one of the oldest and most beautiful parks in the area, featuring soothing water features, native plants, and sprawling lawns for relaxation and leisurely strolls.
Safe park within a gated estate, a great place to relax with friends and family. The grass is well maintained, and quite clean. There is a river or small stream and kids may cool and play in there ...unsure if this water is not contaminated but from own looks, it looks clean. The park is quite large, and have sufficient parking for may cars. Some people love music and they bring speakers which could be a nuisance to those who may want very quiet area. However, I experienced this once and the other days, I found the park to be peaceful. This is again a very good spot for snapping pictures, be it in special occasions such as weddings, graduations etc or just for fun. I saw a sign about free wifi, and did not get to test it, I will come back with another review once I check the wifi. Thanks Tswane Municipality.

Decided to stop by since I was in the area. I got to enjoy some time outdoors while getting a few chapters in. This park is clean and well maintained. It also seems really safe with security presence. I also saw some dog owners taking their fur babies for a walk. There are lots of trees and it's a great setting for an impromptu picnic. You could also sit on a bench next to the pond and this spot would be perfect if you needed to ponder about your current debacles. Definitely visit to see for yourself.

We have been spending Womansday with our friends and family at this park for 14 years. We call it the Fairy Park because to us its magical with all its nooks and babbling water. Over all well maintained though the toilets could do with a bit of work.

It’s a beautiful park. It’s quite big and spacious. Family and dog friendly. There’s lots of trees, grass area, and plants. There’s also a waterfall and pond with fish. It’s great for picnics. It’s quiet, tranquil and safe. It’s just hard to find taps/drinking water and the restrooms aren’t cleaned or well maintained.

Yohhh what a beautiful scenery, an absolutely beautiful well maintained park. Very quite so many ample shaded space... We sat next to the mini waterfalls so the sound of water was so refreshing... A phenomenal experience overall

Just got back from a family picnic. Beautiful park with loads of shade and lawns for days. Lovely benches everywhere and the most spectacular little stream running through the park with the sound of water in the back ground. Huge fish pond with stunning Koi's. Bathrooms are basic, but adequate - could use a little TLC though. Very well kept public park, which is rare in South Africa.

Magnolia Dell, located near the Baileys Muckleneuk suburb in Pretoria, was once a soil dumping site for roadworks but has been transformed into a picturesque park with sweeping landscapes of magnolia trees and lush lawns. The park features a small running stream, tall shady trees, rolling lawns, and a jungle gym for kids, making it an ideal spot for picnics and leisurely walks along the Walkerspruit river.
I love my neighborhood park! Always clean, with police patrol. They have a lovely restaurant name 'Hackle Berry', and they serve delicious food

Magnolia Dell, located close to the Pretoria CBD, is among the best-maintained municipal parks in the Metro. With the Walkerspruit flowing through the park, it is almost always in pristine.condition, with inviting lush, manicured lawns. A great place to take kids to enjoy the playground equipment, one could carry a picnic basket or grab a meal from a great restaurant within the park.

It's a refreshing park with water flowing and there is a restaurant nearby which is over looking the playground for the kids, which has swings and all the things that children even adults can play those games coz i also enjoyed the swing. Drinking is also prohibited on site and well there is a policeman that does rounds just to check if people aren't drinking.

I love this park. Magnolia Dell Park is a clean, well-maintained park conducive to chilling out. Today there were a lot of activities for people to celebrate the Christmas holidays. It is a safe place for people of all ages. It's a clean place for kids to play around. We had some fun and enjoyed ourselves. It's also conducive for picnics, birthday 🎂 celebrations and many more.

Wonderful newly restored park in Pretoria East with an outside restaurant full of warmth and arty people. Owned by the Brewer family famous also for their ice cream store. You can walk and run here or take the kids to the small playground. Great for dogs.

People breaking bylaws of drinking and braaiing in park. No parking for regular customers avail. Considering alternative eateries. Not safe in parking lot. Park a mess through littering over weekends. Repair to stream banks were a flop and waste of money. Better planning needed. Cover needed on pipe box, poses a safety risk.

The South African Air Force Museum, located in Swartkop, is the largest military aviation museum in South Africa. It showcases a comprehensive collection of historical artifacts from the SAAF, including both static and flying aircraft. The museum offers a captivating journey through the evolution of aviation, from the Paterson Aviation School era to modern aircraft. Visitors can explore family-friendly exhibitions and learn about the rich heritage and history of the SAAF.
A really great morning out, especially if you have kids. The museum needs your donations to survive and they have some great artifacts that must be preserved. Usually open on a Saturday morning.
Adrian G — Google review
🛩️☢️🧃 Five out of five stars for a museum that charmingly redefines the term "run-down." The only person I could find was the caretaker. During the obligatory entry of my personal details in the register, I noticed that the last guests had been here seven days ago. Wow. He kindly opened the four dusty hangars for me personally. Inside, Mirage fighter jets, relays from the Bronze Age of IT, and thorium-contaminated exhibits await, although warning signs at least kindly point out that they might be a bit radiant. There's no lighting, no explanatory panels, and it smells of 80s rubber, waste oil, and government failure. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. For connoisseurs of well-maintained military decay, this place is a paradise. And if you get thirsty, the military café even serves water from PET bottles and chips with Soviet charm. Two hours passed like a flash

Interesting to see all the historic aircraft. Just sad to see the exhibits full of dust, they however do rely on donations for upkeep of the museum and cleaning. Great museum for anyone interested in war history or aircraft history. Donate if you can.
Anya M — Google review
Way better than I expected. Hangars full of beautifully preserved aircraft, knowledgeable volunteers, and lots of small details if you lean in. We spent ages around the older jets and helicopters, and the layout makes it simple to do your own pace. It’s not flashy; it’s well cared for and straight to the point. Give yourself 60–90 minutes, more if you’re an aviation nerd. Great stop to pair with coffee in Centurion afterward.
Gavin H — Google review
If you are a flight enthusiast like myself this is a must. The exhibition itself needs to be cleaned and updated as it needs serious upkeep. Expect a bit of a walk as you cannot park inside AFB Swartkop but just outside in the public parking space. There are 3 hangars filled with old aircraft and old related articles such as engines and the like. To get in you have to fill out a form and make a donation of any amount which isn’t compulsory but welcomed if you want to see this museum maintained. After visiting the hangars you can go close to the landing strip where there is a collection of more fighter jets, an Avro Shackleton and a few other aircraft on the tarmac. It’s a self guided tour so you can take your time and also get really close to these aircraft. Expect to walk. The Officers are friendly and very welcoming and I can’t wait to go back for the upcoming air shows. Hope that in time this museum can be restored and updated.

With expansive gardens, play areas, and jungle gyms, the farm provides ample space for kids to roam freely and interact with animals.
Lovely farm with lots of shaded areas and benches for picnics. The place is well maintained with lovely staff. There are a number of play areas for the kiddies and a wide selection of plants and garden deco to purchase.
Ons S — Google review
We used to visit Willow Feather Farm all the time when my daughter was younger. We decided to go back today because of all the great memories and I must admit I was disappointed. It cost R250 for 2 children and 1 adult to enter and that included 2 bags of food for the animals. I understand about the conservation but I found that quite pricy. If we had gone to the zoo it would have been R30 more. Our goal was to have lunch because we remembered amazing meals with decadent cake. There were 2 staff members working on a computer and the restaurant was empty. I realised why when I saw they only have pizzas, quiche and muffins. Really disappointing. So we paid R250 to feed some animals and had to drive to another restaurant to get a meal. For a family of 4 or 5 it works out to be an expensive outing.
Michelle S — Google review
This place is a gem. The entrance fee is well worth it for how beautifully maintained it is. I appreciated the bags of animal feed, wrapped according to animal. A lovely touch. The animals all look healthy, which is important to me personally. If you have a toddler, this is a must-visit. Multiple play areas scattered around the gardens, a soft-play area for the little ones and a beautiful lawn to play on. I can't wait to take my son back.
Siobhan E — Google review
This is such a lovely place to visit with kids, even my 14 year old son loved it. Its clean, well maintained, affordable and has lots to do without it being overwhelmingly big and the staff is very polite. We will definitely be regular visitors.
Bonnie P — Google review
Absolutely loved it. My 2 year old enjoyed the animals and feeding them. The animals are under the shade so we didn't get burnt in the December sun which was nice. They are peacocks and chickens roaming around. There's many play areas for the kids as well. Just disappointed there was no restaurant but there is a place to buy drinks and muffins. You can bring your own picnic basket.

A Perfect Day Out for the Whole Family! We had such a fantastic time here! This place is an absolute gem for families looking for a fun and relaxing day outdoors. There were kids who loved feeding the animals (our twins are still a bit young)—who are clearly well cared for. There’s also a huge jumping dome and plenty of jungle gyms to burn off all that energy! The open grassy areas were perfect for picnics as you are allowed to bring in food and drinks. Everything was clean and well maintained, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a wholesome day out with the kids. We’ll definitely be back
Chene V — Google review
This was an awesome outing for my children. They thoroughly enjoyed them selves at the soft play area for 0-6 years old. Feeding the farm animals was the highlight of there day as well as running around the play areas. We were happy to see a toddler play area as well as numerous play areas for the bigger kids. The jumping castle was also a nice surprise for my 6 year old. As for myself the peace and quiet and tranquility of the place just awesome. The plants, and trees. The walkway through the nursery. The feeling that you in a forest when walking on the walk ways. Absolutely gorgeous.

Visitors can explore the 19th-century Fort Wonderboom and discover Stone Age sites within the reserve's 200-hectare expanse. With open grasslands, rocky slopes, and woodlands, this destination provides a picturesque setting for relaxation.
Really nice! The hike was short but a lot of climbing which was great. The waterfall looked pretty cool too. Lots of space for a picnic with the family.
Jordan T — Google review
Trails are beautiful, picnics are fine. But there is rubbish along the trails, and by the fort. Bathrooms need cleaning, wasn't enough toilet paper for the whole day. There should be a rule for no loud music, we were greatly disturbed by someone's loud music. But it's a nice place, and worth the money you pay to enter.
Zelda F — Google review
It was an alright trail. It had some good views. Although it wasPoorly marked we had gone somewhere and it led us to a gate. The waterfall promised was from a pipe and you couldn't even see it properly it was behind a fence. Disappointed.
Mansah A — Google review
Always a pleasure visiting the wonderboom. Unfortunately the place is not very well kept and the staff doesn’t look very enthusiastic. Great place for a short hike: in just over an hour you can do a round-trip visiting the fort and the waterfall. It’s not really signposted, but the path is relatively clear and there are not too many options to get lost - except perhaps closer to the waterfall where a little more guesswork is involved.
Thomas M — Google review
Fun and Challenging, not short of amazing views because I’am a first time “ Hiker” hopefully I’ll consider being a full one.
Nandipha L — Google review
We had a nice hike in a historical nature reserve that is nestled on the northern side of Pretoria city. Right in front of Wonderboom Junction shopping mall. The trail was not long, only 3.9 km. But if you want to get back home in one piece, better not to wear sneakers. The rocks were slippery and steep. On top, you'll see Wonderboompoort ruins as part of the highlights of the Nature Reserve itself, apart from the 1,000-year-old Giant Wild Fig tree with its daughters that you can see at the starting point of the trail. We didn't see the waterfall; it closed. There's an entrance fee of R47 at the gate. I wish they'd provide more bathrooms inside the nature reserve, because the ones in the parking area; I guess that's a bit far from the hiking trail.

Short climb, lovely canopy, and that old fig with stories in its roots. We followed the path to the fort ruins and sat on warm rocks for a while. Easy outing if you want a touch of bush without leaving town.

Weekly entrance fee R100.00 per adult Weekend entrance fee R65.00 per adult Monthly entrance fee R280.00 per adult Inclines are not hectic at all. I’d say it’s a bit rocky. Beautiful plants along the way and a water stream after 5kms on the 10Km trail. Definitely a trail I’d go for again soon. Quite an easy hike for avid hikers. There are awesome benches and braai areas to relax by after the beautiful trail.

We did the 15 km trail. It's a very well-marked trail ( and so is the 5km and 10km). So much so, that if you cannot find the next marker after a few metres, retrace your steps and you are bound to find it! The place is open, no shade. Towards end of September, beginning October, the Jacarandas are in bloom and makes the area so very pretty! The trail is not difficult. There are ups and downs but nothing strenuous. I'm sure young kids can do and enjoy the 5 km trail! Dogs are also allowed on the trails. All in all, a pleasant hike with great expanse.

Did the 15km trail walk at Hedianga Farm. It was a lovely walk. Not over crowded like some of the others hikes in Pretoria. The the 15 km, especially the last 7km is up and down hill with a nice climb. The route is clearly marked. There is some beautiful views of Pretoria East from the top. Make sure you take plenty of water, especially on hot days. Dogs are allowed. Card payments not accepted at the entrance. Definately recommend, a nice walk in the middle of the city, but you don't feel it.

One of the best places to ride if you are in Pretoria. There are multiple routes to choose from, ranging from the shortest (7km) to the longest (85km). There are technical routes and flat ones, and the information boards give you a good idea of which routes to take. The trails are well-kept and the different routes are clearly indicated. The coffee shop offers great breakfast and lunch.

Took the dogs for a on the leash bush hike @ Buffelsdrift Trail Park (Pretoria) this morning. Many different trail options to choose from ranging from 5km to 21km. The venue has game and a Crocodile farm. R50 per person payable by card as this is a cashless environment. You will sign in electronically and receive an arm band with contact numbers in case of emergency. Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Other activities include bird watching and mountain biking. The venue felt safe and is quite popular with mountain bikers. All the staff were extremely friendly. Booking not required but I would recommend that you contact the venue prior to your visit as some of the trails are rendered inaccessable after heavy bouts of rainfall. Don't trust your GPS. Once you reach Protea road follow the directions as per their Facebook page otherwise you are bound to get lost. Be sure to try their delicious chicken mayo sandwiches after the hike. You might even spot the baby crocodile that resides in the dam at the restaurant.

First and foremost... THANK YOU! We had a stunning day. Only challenge on the 5km was the two fences, but this made for a bit of exitement. The entrance is gravel but the Getz coped will. Parking was available under shade and there was a car guard. Quick and easy payment for the day pass and we were on our way. Trail was well marked and very paw friendly. There was one or two slight trail challenges with steep down hills and could present a challenge for the less agile. Was looking forward to a breakfast but settled for sandwich as the only breakfast thing was the Brekkie bun. Food is a bit on the expensive side but the sizable portions make up for this. Water for Dream and Pancho and they brought water twice for them in bowls. The ONLEAD leash policy is very welcome as I had no 'free' undisciplined off lead K9's to deal with... Not only was it a policy.. Its actually enforced. Thank you thank you.... We will be back soon....

My review of 2020: It's Sunday morning the summer of 2020 and looking back on my review of 2018 I think this year being back at buffelspoort is the realisation more than ever before, of how special it is to be able to go outside and to enjoy a mountain bike ride and being able to experience the Freedom of sport and outdoor living and a healthy lifestyle... It is so much more of a realisation of the blessing that a place like Buffelsdrift has in one's life. This venue is a testimony of the passion of private owners, everytime the trails are better, their preservation of the nature are. This makes it possible to escape the concrete jungle in a quick 30 minute drive. A venue that accommodate from the serious mountain biking enthusiasts, the playful trail runner as well as mom and dad that wants to take the kids for a bush hike as well as feel safe. Well done team Buffelsdrift!! 👍👍 My review of 2018: Excellent bike park with whole package of all different types of terrain. I was so impressed I bought a year permit - what a bargain! It was my first time visiting this branch of the Fun Company as I am from East London and I was visiting Pretoria. My friend and I came for the bowling which was super enjoyable, however, I found it very unnecessary that I had to purchase a Fun Company card just to have one game of bowling, when I won’t ever need to use the card again.

This rating is purely on the service and nomadic rules the Fun company put in place at Menlyn mall. You have to go down an escalator to enter the fun company and there are a couple eating places like milky lane in that vicinity. We were stopped by a fun company employee that has a seat at the beginning of the escalator. We had eaten at a restaurant and took a doggy bag. She said we were not allowed to enter as we have food with us. We told her we want to play games(we are mom, dad and 2 kids) and get ice cream and we are not going to eat our packed doggy bag. She insisted that this is policy and we were refused entry. The stupid rules that make no sense. This is a mall! Who came up with these rules and live in Ancient Egypt times?! There was no point in reasoning as it was as if we were speaking to a blank page with our appeals. Father's day spoilt. New feedback after owner response: I am thrilled that you took my complaint seriously and looked into the rules and policies you have in place. It shows that you take feedback with an open mindset. I appreciate that policy is now updated to accommodate customers with drinks and food to enter. I am updating my review to 3 stars for the change in policy and will ensure to visit the fun company and provide my review based on the entire experience. Much appreciated.

I planned a fulfilled day for my daughter's birthday which was unfortunately spoilt by unfriendly and unaccommodating staff. On entry we were very rudely told that we may not enter with my grandchild in her car chair which was placed in a trolley. The lady then refused to keep the car chair so that we could gain entry. After asking repeatedly why the car chair could not not be stored behind the counter, we insisted on seeing the manager who kept it for us. When booking a bowling lane, we were once again faced with a very rude and grumpy lady. I would most definitely recommend choosing a different venue if you are looking for "friendly" fun.
Lindy S — Google review
A very unpleasant and unfriendly reception lady. I felt she made no attempt to solve a problem. The reception was happy to send us away. When we approached the manager, she made an effort to accommodate us. We then went bowling. Where we found an equally unfriendly person at reception. We proceeded to complete our bowling and left. It is sad that such unfriendly treatment of customers is seen to be exceptable as it happend twice in a short time. It really put a damper on what should have been a pleasant morning.

If you're looking for a fun and refreshing outing, the Grove Ice Rink is an excellent choice for all ages. Nestled within the Grove Shopping Mall in Pretoria's Lynwood Ride suburb, this charming ice skating rink offers a delightful escape from the summer heat. Whether you're racing friends or honing your skills, there's plenty of room to glide across the smooth surface. First-time skaters will find it to be an inviting environment where they can embrace the joy of skating without feeling overwhelmed.
It was good had tons of fun, with my friends. We went on a Tuesday so there was a special, entrance fee and ice skates were half price. The session starts at 19:30. Seems safe enough to leave bags outside but we used a locker which was R25. It was good experience.

Shané S — Google review
It is a lovely place, I love ice skating, its been a while so I am quite clumsy. However, the ice skating boots are way too sore. I can only go once around the rink without needing to take them off. I don't know if they are old, poorly made or just not the same size as depicted, but it really hurts. It would probably be best to bring your own ice skates. The size I was given was supposed to be size 7.5. It is every time I go there. But despite that, it truly is a good experience, no lines, quick to get in, food doesn't take long and the staff is friendly

There was a school trip at the rink. They kept grabbing my daughters penguins and trying to take the penguins cause my daughters to panic. Could not skate. I took convincing but the staff did refund our money after a discussion or two.

Park
Roodeplaat Dam Provincial Nature Reserve, situated about 22 kilometers north of Pretoria, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The southern part of the dam offers great opportunities for game viewing, with sightings of zebra, wildebeest, kudu, warthogs and black-backed jackals. The northern part is ideal for canoeing, sailing and fishing. Birdwatchers can spot over 250 avian species including waterfowl, raptors and waders.
What a lovely hidden gem. We did the hike, about 7.5km. Very safe, well marked and easy trail. Excellent to clear your head and get some fresh air. Easily accessible by any car, and VERY affordable. Security at the gate is very friendly. Will definitely be visiting this trail in the summer again.
Jessie B — Google review
Very beautiful, quiet, and serene... paid less than R100 for entrance of car and self-drive. You get a map if it's your first time. There's a few "hidden" spots for extra silence and just listening to nature. Also a play areas and braai area by the river bank. Fun for everyone
Lunga M — Google review
Went on a Rooikat volunteer snare removal walk in the reserve (highly recommended), so I didn't spend a lot of time on a trail or road. The park is well maintanted and beautiful. It's a perfect spot for birdwatchers, or just for a fun casual family lunch in the picnic area.

Shadi M — Google review
What a lovely gem this place it . I was here for the trail , it's more of a walk then a hike .The trail is largely flat and filled with lush vegetation and great views. If you need a place to clear your head this may be it . The trail is a 7km loop so no matter where you behind that's where you will end your walk. Trail is well marked so you won't get lost . Bring water as I didn't see any taps there . If you lucky you will see a lot of wild life without having to stray of the path .
Mzo H — Google review
Good choice if you like to rough it. No proper bathrooms, but they do have decent long drops in brick buildings. The dam is kept pretty clean. Camping sites are clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend away from the everyday hustle. No electricity. Taps with running water close to camping sites.
Riana L — Google review
It is a great place for fishing and camping. Maintenance to the place is required
Chamie M — Google review
We came for a day visit at the picnic / fishing grounds. The park itself is not that well maintained as there are a lot of grass and bush, however the campgrounds and fishing spots are wide open space with fireplaces, ablutions and lapas making it very convenient to set up. The dam is clean, but the common water hyacinth can become annoying and ruin your fishing experience when the wind is blowing the wrong direction. The entrance fee is well priced making it one of the few places that does not cost a fortune just for getting out for a day.

We booked a Pony Party for my daughter's 5th Birthday at Cry Wolf and we were blown away by the amount of effort that went into making this party a success. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. The kids didn't only get to ride the ponies, but had 1 and 1/2 hours to groom and decorate them and play a few games on horseback. It is obvious that the ponies are in wonderful condition as their coats are shiny and soft and they were alert, but relaxed. We booked a braai and everyone was more than happy to purchase their own braai packs and food from the venue as it was quite cheap (and delicious). The free coffee was a life saver as our party started quite early. We were also impressed with the party packs each child received, which included fizzers, lollipops, juice, chomps and maize chips. The service was exceptional and the staff were very helpful and polite. This party surpassed all expectations and we are very happy we chose Cry Wolf as our venue.

What an amazing experience! Debbie, Tomas and all the staff on the day was just excellent. We had our 10 year old son's paintball birthday there. Not only did the marshal fix our person paintball gun, but the team went over and above to accommodate us. Even all the dad's jumped in and joined the fun The fact that there is no venue charges is really a plus point for the activity. You can braai there or take in your own food, which we did. We got pizza delivered as the dad's was occupied with the paintball and couldn't braai. CryWolf even accommodated us by placing the ice-cream in their fridge for us to enjoy!

Wide variety of food-stalls available with varying price ranges, so the experience definitely delivers for the snack-curious! The live music was lovely later on in the evening and the cherry on top was being able to take our doggos along. The experience brings South Africa's railway history to life, providing insight into the technology and maintenance of steam locomotives. Despite potential delays due to other rail traffic, passengers can enjoy a nostalgic journey and admire the impressive Class 24 locomotive.
Epic adventure, steam train trip that is run by volunteers.
Allistair B — Google review
Great day out with the family. From Pretoria to Cullinan and back again. Trip can take longer than expected as the train has to wait for metro to pass in different sections. Still an amazing trip and beautiful train.
Dayne R — Google review
Its a lovely experience, the staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Don't plan on having a picnic at the station before the train departs; there is very little seating (old train benches and a few wooden benches) under a temporary shade cloth and it is very dusty. Some drinks can be bought at one of the locomotives. There were issues with one of the coaches brakes so we were delayed for just over an hour however the actual train ride was really enjoyable. They allocate sufficient space for a family which was great so the kids can move around.
Theressa L — Google review
The whole trip was delayed, whether it was leaving late or getting to the destination late due to poor planning. Warning to be careful when getting off the train.
Kyara M — Google review
Authentic steam train experience, nice seating, snack cart and toilets. Expect the whole day if you headed to cullinan
Harry M — Google review
I wasn't particularly happy with my experience on this train. The delay from Cullinan was incredibly long. The carriage was so loud with drunk people and loud crying babies, it was just horrid. The return from Cullinan was almost 2 hours late. Only 10 minutes before we left was there an announcement on the broken intercom that we will be late (after staying on the bus for over an hour.) There were no tables on the train for one to eat on, no cupholders, the windows could barely open, finding my seat and carriage number was a long mission. It was also extremely cold on the train, and it was very very slow. We got back to Pretoria at night time... the lights on the train was so dim and old I couldn't see where I should walk. the seats were also so dusty. A very unpleasant experience sorry...
Craig B — Google review
We had a fantastic journey, there are delays due to the fact they have to wait for commercial traffic to clear the lines but it's still a great experience reliving the pace of the olden days. Good family vibes on the Mothers day and Fathers day outings.
Kent W — Google review
The rating may be a bit harsh, as there were some excellent aspects to the trip. For some of the following observations, it must be borne in mind that the organisation is run by hard working and well intentioned volunteers. That being said, the "commercial service offering" could benefit from being tightened up. From the top: we booked family tickets for the Hermansted to Cullinan "Santa's Diamond express". The online booking was straightforward, but then they cancelled travel dates a few days beforehand, in order to combine trips. Understandable from an organisational perspective, but they vacillated as to which date would be cancelled. Arrival - parking and ticket collection was efficient, for what was a busy and well attended event. The initial offering of coffee, rusks and some train related merchandise to purchase - all good. We departed on time, but the initial exit from Pretoria was astonishingly slow, punctuated by innumerable stops. Here I think, the train was at mercy of the controllers of SA railways, and we were clearly a low priority train. It took us over 5 hours to reach Cullinan. If the delays are not uncommon, I would suggest you remove "Express" from the title description of these events! A lot of that time was spent stationary in the now sweltering carriages. Thence to the Santa part - Santa whisked through the carriages with a little too much haste, given we weren't going anywhere quickly. Father Christmas ran out of presents for the kids (!) half way thru our carriage - and so the children of the last 3.5 carriages didn't receive a gift. If you're going to give them, it''s the one thing you really shouldn't get wrong on a Santa event!! The organisation had accurate estimates of children numbers from the ticket purchases. Personally, I don't think you need to do gifts - just the gift of time with Santa. There's more than enough time during a standard 3 hour travel trip to Cullinan, for Santa to stop and chat with the kids....ask what they would like for Christmas, without actually having to give a gift. That avoids additional costs for the organisation, and the disappointment faced yesterday, of the children who saw Santa passing by with a full sack of gifts and returning in haste, empty handed without so much as a ho ho ho. If precedence is a concern, I'm sure you could adjust that expectation for next year and future years by prior email to all parents at the time of ticket booking. There were a couple of rounds of free "strawberry lips alcoholic shots" for the adults - a nice sentiment, but I personally don't need a "shot" at 11am on a Sunday morning, and bringing something 'pink' in a glass, that looks like a kiddies drink is further dissatisfaction for the kids when they can't partake. To the positives: the volunteers/staff were all thoroughly good humoured and helpful throughout. Immaculately kept steam engine, and my sincere thanks to the driving crew for allowing the children to visit the engine cabin.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tshwane, Time Square Casino Menlyn is a contemporary gem that offers a delightful blend of entertainment and relaxation. With cozy rooms and suites, guests can unwind after an exhilarating day at the casino or enjoying events at the state-of-the-art SunBet Arena. This multipurpose venue hosts everything from concerts to conferences, making it a hub for excitement. While trying your luck at the slots, you’ll find that locals flock here for its diverse gambling attractions.
Times Square Casino offers an exciting and modern gaming experience that truly stands out in the bustling city atmosphere. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by a vibrant ambiance and a wealth of new slot machines, all in impeccable working order. This variety ensures that there's something for everyone, whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer trying your luck. One of the notable aspects of Times Square Casino is its attentive service. It’s never a challenge to find a waitress, ensuring that your refreshments are just a call away. Plus, the on-site restaurants provide an array of dining options, making it easy to satisfy your culinary cravings without leaving the premises. However, one downside that detracts from the overall experience are the late-night visitors. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a pattern of unruly behavior, particularly from intoxicated patrons who can be quite loud and disruptive. This can mar the enjoyment of an otherwise thrilling night, particularly during peak hours when the casino is at its busiest. It would benefit the casino management to keep a closer watch on maintaining a more controlled environment, as the unruly behavior can diminish the experience for others. In summary, Times Square Casino is a fantastic venue with modern gaming options and commendable service. If they can effectively manage the late-night crowd, it would undoubtedly elevate the overall experience for all visitors. If you’re looking for a lively night out with friends or a chance to unwind, Times Square Casino is worth a visit—just be mindful of the late-night atmosphere.

Very mediocre. The staff are not friendly at all, there's no vibe at all, and the available games are roulette, black jack and seven hundred themes on slot machines. Overpriced drinks and restaurants make this venue even more missable. Boring, won't be returning.

Not really sure where to send complaints regarding restaurants at time square - but honestly hope this will reach the correct individuals. During our visit we went to Milky Lane, I found a hair in my ice cream, and few minutes later my husband found one in his waffle. I would like to share the photos so please reach out to me with a email I can use to send. I would rather not post it here for all to see as I believe (well I hope) this was an isolated incident.

Seriously, it sucks that this company can't connect my MVG platinum card to the Sun International app. I've been to four casinos, and it's been a total waste of time. I'm definitely not feeling like a valued guest. What's it gonna take to fix this, 'cause I bet I'm not the only one with this problem, right?

Everything you'd expect from a Sun International Casino - well equipped, classy rooms with a view that gets better every time you go. The staff are fantastic. Food gets a solid 4/5 too.

The waiters are very rude and there is no service from them. We had to go and get our own drinks everytime we wanted one. The slot machines where you sit and play are dirty and not wiped down, we had to do it. The ashtrays are so full and dirty. Poor service from the staff overall at the casino.
Angeline C — Google review
⭐ 1 Star Very Disappointing Experience – Needs Urgent Management Intervention I visited Time Square Casino in Pretoria on the 20th of June, and it was a very underwhelming and frustrating experience. Far too many slot machines were out of order, and when I approached staff for help, their attitudes were unprofessional and unfriendly. It felt like customer service was simply not a priority. There were drunk individuals occupying machines, not playing, just loitering around and creating an uncomfortable environment for other guests. Even worse, I witnessed staff shouting across the casino floor while using guest entrances—completely destroying any sense of a quality experience. The toilets were dirty and smelled bad, which is unacceptable for a venue of this size and reputation. On top of that, security in the parking area felt inadequate, leaving me with serious concerns about safety. If you’re considering visiting a casino in Gauteng, I’d strongly recommend Emperors Palace or Montecasino instead. Time Square simply doesn't compare in terms of service, cleanliness, or professionalism. Unless management steps in and makes major changes, I won’t be returning.
Leon C — Google review
⭐☆☆☆☆ Worst experience ever at Time Square Casino. Floor assistance is terrible – you can wait up to 25 minutes for anyone to attend to you. Many of the slot machines are stuck, making it frustrating to play. To top it off, the parking exit is a complete mess, often blocked off and badly managed. This casino is poorly run from start to finish. No seats supposed to be reserved but players leave cards and walk around for hours to return and bad mouth you with the attendants after card removed due to non active player. No toilet paper in toilet and filthy basins Definitely never going back.
