Spinola Bay is a vibrant and scenic area in St. Julians, Malta, known as the town's gastronomic heart. The bay is adorned with small boats and offers a variety of restaurants with outdoor seating that serve both local and international cuisine. Overlooking the coast are traditional fishing boats housed below the restaurants, providing a picturesque backdrop for open-air dining during balmy summer evenings.
This bay is beautiful, one of the most beautiful places I have walked through in Malta; Eating ice cream or dessert in this area was very fun. Obligatory meeting point with friends to eat and have a few drinks. Here you can understand Maltese culture a little more.

Such an underrated bay. Cozy ambiente at night and a lot of restaurants. Paceville is just around the corner.
Laura G — Google review
Beautiful bay positioned between St Julians and Silema with a number of good bars and restaurants scattered around. Lovely during the day and great for people watching but stunning at night. Have a meal and then take a stroll around the bay.

Spinola Bay looks beautiful and have a lot of shops, restaurants, bars, coffee and places around for you to visit and chill for a while. A great place to have a walk.

We stopped here at night for a short walk around the bay before the short uphill walk to our hotel. The bay was so peaceful and beautiful.

Nice area to walk around: portomasso - spinola - balluta bay and the promenade between st Julians and Sliema Tigne point. It can be a very pleasant place, when it's not extremely busy.
Carolina M — Google review
Great views especially in the evening or at night. A long promenade up to Balluta Bay and then to Sliema. A lot of bars, cafes, restaurants along just to find a place to relax at sea.

Balluta Bay is a charming small bay located in St. Julians, Malta, offering a modest beach where visitors can enjoy swimming and various water sports activities. The bay is part of the 5km long coastline that includes several distinct spots such as Quisisana, Font Ghadir, Surfside, Exiles, and Spinola Bay. Balluta Bay features a triangular pjazza surrounded by cafes and shaded by Judas trees.
Nice INSTA beach 🏝️ For better photos go after midday. We were in the morning.
Jolita T — Google review
Very nice place to swim when off tourist season, the water was clear and the beach had lifeguards!
Jangle — Google review
One of the first beautiful places which I visited in Malta. Peaceful and alive at the same time. I would recommend to take a whole day out there
Evren G — Google review
The beach needs a bit of a cleaning, but the place is quite charming otherwise. The area is also nice for a swim, but busy during weekends. Too bad for the cranes in the background and the chaotic buildings around, but hey, this is Malta (sic!)
Carolina M — Google review
Beautiful place, good to go for evening walk and amazing restaurant with lot of food and beverage options. Great place to enjoy sunset.
Selvin N — Google review
It's a beautiful place, especially at night when the church is shining. But, I don't recommend swimming here, usually it's dirty there, better to walk a bit and swim in front of Independence Garden.
Elvis A — Google review
Very scenic place, especially in the evening, beach is quite small, but nice, considering it's the only sandy beach in the immediate area.

Located in the lively town of St. Julian's, Dragonara Casino is a historic 19th-century palace transformed into a luxurious casino. It offers an array of slot machines and live tables for those seeking entertainment and excitement. The casino also features a brasserie and piano bar, adding to its vibrant atmosphere. Foreign visitors over 18 can enter with a passport, immersing themselves in the glitzy ambiance of this prestigious establishment.
Lovely venue, quick to arrange our membership with our driving licenses. As it was my partners birthday, we got 50% off our food bill & a complimentary bottle of wine. The food was excellent & quickly served, they want you back on the tables & slot machines ! Although fully booked & very busy, service was impeccable & we weren't rushed through our meal. Wish I'd taken a photo of the Argentinian prawn starter, but it looked so good we'd eaten it before I realised !! Steak was perfectly cooked, sauce delicious and my risotto with pumpkin was served just al dente & faultless. The creme brulee was one of the best I've had. First class food and service. Highly highly recommended & absolutely will eat there again

Worth visiting! The interior is very beautiful and it’s a fun activity to do in the evening with friends! The receptionist who does the entry cards (it was a lady, first table on the left with South Asian roots) was very unpleasant and with an attitude (felt like she looked down on us). I was pretty tired that day and accidentally filled a paper in wrong and her reaction was as if I was dumb and couldn’t read the instructions… My friend also had the same experience with her.
Angie B — Google review
Had a lot of fun here. I will say getting in was kind of annoying. The lines can get long. Especially if it’s your first time, they let everyone who already has a casino card skip you. And it takes a few minutes for each new person to get registered. So that’s the only part that I thought was a little frustrating as we waited like 20 minutes to get in. And probably 30 people passed us. But once we got in the whole experience was great. The bartender and drinks were amazing. Great happy hour deals. Fun tables and experiences. Was easy to walk back to my hotel after too. Fun evening activity!

Beautiful but dangerous. Spent 50 there in under 5 minutes. How the grandmas making 1000+ on the machines is beyond me

Palazzo Dragonara is a palace in St. Julian's, Malta. It was built in 1870 by Damiano Alberti as a summer residence of Emmanuele Scicluna, a banker who became a marquis in 1875. Dragonara Palace is built in neoclassical architecture, and its colonnades are inspired by those of Villa Portelli and Palazzo Capua. Some rooms of the palace contain frescoes painted by Vincenzo Maria Cremona. The fresco in the Yellow Room shows military and floral paraphernalia, as well as a bird holding a garland of roses. The ceiling panels of the Green Room has frescoes showing a personification of industry. The palace opened as a casino on 15 July 1964, at a time when nearby Paceville began its transition from a mainly agricultural area to a tourist hub. The Dragonara Casino was the first casino in Malta, and this was a major step in establishing Malta as a tourist destination. It receives about 350,000 patrons annually, making it the most popular casino in Malta. The palace is named after Dragonara Point, the peninsula on which it was built. According to local legend, a dragon lived in caves near the peninsula whose roars reached the shore. The roaring was probably the sound of the waves breaking the rocks or the howling of the wind. It is believed that the rumours of the dragon were spread by smugglers to discourage people from going to the area. Chef Claudio Schiavone is really amazing. I really enjoyed the local sea bass. If you are in Malta, this is one of the places you have to experience. The lines may be long to get in, but worth the experience. Make sure you take your government ID and be prepared for people smoking everywere including when you are dining (unfortunately)
Steve W — Google review
I’ve been going to Dragonara Casino for a while now and always have a great time! The place has a good vibe, friendly staff, and the RTP is actually pretty decent compared to other spots in Malta. Withdrawals from their online platform were super easy too — no hassle at all. Just a small tip: only bring money you can afford to lose, enjoy the games, and have fun. Definitely one of the best casino experiences around! 🎰✨
Raed — Google review
The most beautiful of the three in Malta. Great view at the Mediterranean sea. Relatively new game slots, not too many table games
Petros K — Google review
Very very small casino. Mainly slots with only a few tables. The wait is long to get in, moves rather quickly. Once you get a membership card the first time - there is a separate line which moves waaaaay faster

St. Julian's Parish Church, located on Lapsi Street, is a modern neo-gothic church built in 1961 overlooking Balluta Bay. It is dedicated to Lady of Mount Carmel and serves as the parish church of Balluta, belonging to the Carmelite monastery. It is very amazing. Hope who has a few mins off, go and visit this beautiful peaceful place. Sure you will visit again. It's a very peaceful place that you can open your heart ❤️ with God. It was the first time I had visited this place, but I was sure I would go oftin. 1🙌😘🙏❤️

I went to see a concert of orchestra and choir. It is the perfect venue for such an event. When I arrived mass was still underway and the priest and congregation were emersed in the proceedings as they should be. It was a joy to observe from the perimeter. If I lived anywhere near it would be my parish church and I would be proud to be part of it.
Peter S — Google review
A lovely Catholic Church with very good acoustics and interesting down to earth sermons. A perk is the free parking available underground and accessed to the church by lift.
Erika G — Google review
Great worship place with the most caring priests we have ever met. So we'll organized and service properly done with a modern flare. The team of people are truly dedicated to the church and community and are young, kind and vibrant. We love the church itself too recently it's been redone and looks lovely and modern....
Amanda V — Google review
Strong community with a parish priest who loves the children (in a wholesome way, don't worry) and makes sure to provide them ways to engage during the children's Mass every Sunday at 9:30. There are two rooms for use inside the church, five more below the church, and a big hall with a stage
Paul M — Google review
As usual sermon was very good, church offers the best seating to enable churchgoers to follow mass. The recent redecorating of the church has been welcome by all and my wife and I always follow mass there although we live in Kappara.

Church
The Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a stunning place to visit, especially during its feast week. The architecture resembles that of a cathedral and is particularly enchanting in May. Visitors can also attend the Holy Mass on Sundays at 18:00, adding to the spiritual experience of this remarkable church.
Beautiful walk in the morning hearing the bells. Went to listen to the service. Incredible inside,
Hug D — Google review
A church that is not as visible as a parish church normally is. It's worth a visit.
Mark V — Google review
For those who complained about the bells. It is not true that the bells ring evry hour in the morning. There are only three times were a bell peals . 6.45am to call people for mass, 8am for the Angelus and is os only 9 stacks. And 8.15am, to call people for mass. When calling for mass there are 33 stracks. With only one bell in all three occasions. It is only on Solemn feasts that there will be a peal of bell ringing. Just as well you don't live in a traditional village or town in Malta, where they still have kept tradition in bell ringing. Many times here we struggle to find people to ring the bells on special occasions. This is part of our Maltese tradition which is 100's of years old. It is good to check matters before we write. If I hate bells, i don't go to live close by a church.

The complex has recently undergone upgrades and now features top shops, quality coffee shops, bars, and restaurants offering diverse cuisines from around the world. Bay Street Complex is a great shopping and entertainment spot in the heart of St. Julian's. It has a good mix of stores, cafes, and restaurants, plus a hotel and arcade. The mall is clean, modern, and well-maintained. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the convenience of having everything in one place, including fashion shops, electronics, and a food court. It's a great place to visit, shop, or hang out with friends, especially if you’re staying nearby or visiting the beach.

Good little shopping centre with legit high street brands - the items are the same cost that’s in the UK so don’t expect any major discounts. I’d only recommend staying away from KFC as it’s one of the worst I’ve been to.

Bay Street Shopping Complex is a really nice shopping center. It is clean and has a reasonable selection of shops. The location is really good, as there are a lot of interesting shops and places to eat around the centre. It is one of the best shopping centers in the area, so would recommend visiting the place. 4 sensible ☀️☀️☀️☀️ stars from me. 👍

I wish I took the advice of the reviews here earlier. Regret going here, worst mall comparable to a third world country mall with really few if not overpriced options. Parking is only free for the first 2 hours if you purchased something from one of their shops and there's no option to pay by card. Parking space is really tiny, not advisable to go here if you're claustrophobic. A total fail. There is an ATM but you'll be charged €4 for the tiniest amount. What's worse it's just next to Paceville where it smells vomit everywhere. Not going back again.
Jord S — Google review
Lovely shopping mall, beautifully decorated and full of designer brands. Whoever said that the only place to eat here is McDonald's is all lies cos there's so many places to eat you'll be spoilt for choice. The same time it takes to go up to McDonald's is the same time it takes to go down to the eateries, including directly across. Anything you want, is there and it's a great place to chill though the teens in your life will very much love the Multimax centre above.

Is shopping complex was okay had a couple of souvenir shops if you drink it shops some close shops McDonald’s was quite good there but what I really liked was the eet well shop that was the best shop everything about it was awesome the food was amazing the prices were great the customer service was fantastic the complex itself I think is really big it goes the whole street it’s cleverly located right after all the nightclubs in the nightlife it’s open quite late there’s a movie theatre there as well so it’s okay I can’t recommend it but I can’t not recommend it it’s it is what it is

We pre registered the day before coming to the casino, and she completely ignored us. It was only when her supervisor came over and pulled out our membership cards that she snatched the registration forms back off us. The casino has a good range of slots and a huge live table area, however literally no atmosphere. We were sat playing on the slots with two members of staff having a chat next to us with not even so much of an offer if we wanted a drink.
Daniel M — Google review
I found this to be the best of the Maltese casinos. The complimentary drink was appreciated. I belief they're currently doing some much needed refurbishment. It is starting to look a little tired. But a huge plus is that they don't use those infernal auto card shufflers on their blackjack tables.
Jack S — Google review
Casino could use a dust up. I find the card room to be ok and they hold a lot of decent poker tournaments during the year. But as stated by many others a lot of the people that work here dont seems to care that much about their jo its more of an obligation where they dont have to perform because they are making money anyway. Thats the type of mentality you can find on the casino floor etc and reception. The location is ok in terms of it being easy to find but its a busy area that gets very hectic with the touristy party crowds. I would come back to play poker but nothing else i would think its worse for the casual casino visitor.

Basic casino in terms of gaming options and quality of slot machines. Free soft drinks. Good promotions (10€ free spins for 2nd and 3rd visit).

Celebrated my birthday in style and luck was definitely on my side at the roulette table! Went from €100 to €600 — not bad for a birthday spin. 😄 The staff made the day even better — everyone was super polite and professional. Special thanks to Carolina for the great service and friendly energy!

This large casino is located directly underneath the Intercontinental Hotel in St Julian’s – this was useful as I was also staying there. My first casino experience, you need to become a member to enter and play the games – this was free and relatively straightforward, you just needed to bring ID with you for your first visit and sign up for a membership. Membership has several tiers – the starter level for most people will be bronze. You get various offers on your first visit, including half price drinks. The casino itself comprises a number of large rooms with gaming machines and tables for roulette and various card games. There are a couple of bars and waitresses roam the rooms checking for drinks orders. Very efficient bar staff – they remember your order after only a couple of visits. Standard bar prices also very reasonable. Gaming machines are my thing, so I stuck with those – there are lots of different ones and you can bet anything from 20C right up to 10Euro or more a spin – I liked Gong Hei, Gong Hei, which is very similar to Eye of Horus or Fishing Frenzy, but with Chinese symbols. Also Lord of the Ocean was very good and a couple of others I forget. Overall this wasn’t my week, in terms of results, but I did enjoy several hours of playing over the course of 6 days and the chance to play some different machines was good. Something unusual, coming from the UK, is that you could smoke inside in one of the larger casino rooms – it’s been such a long time since smoking was banned indoors here that I’d forgotten what it was like to be in a smoked-filled room. You can avoid that room if it bothers you though. Me, I found it nostalgic.

I don't recommend here totally. The minimum bet for blackjack was 20 euros, and it seems that 20 euros was received as a minimum to cover the dealer's wages and system operating costs. I think it could be 10 euros. But why 20 euros? And It was written that the ATM only allows withdrawals in 20 euro increments. Their intentional motives were so obvious that I lost the motivation to go back. Just don't go if you are smart.

I was in Malta on vacation. Spent lots of time in this casino as it was attached to my hotel. On Sunday there was a rude lady taking up multiple machines (All day) but not using them. 2 in my party had incidents with her including the lady firing an ashe tray at my mom. When I complained later in the evening the waitress alerted the floor manager. He said she can take up 4 machines if she chooses to do so. He said the ashe tray complaint should have been addressed right away. Agreed but im assuming this is not the first time with her being a .... This is a tiny casino with limited machines and it's ridiculous that a manager promotes this behavior. What if everyone went in there and took up 2 to 3 machines and only played one. It wouldn't take long for there to be none. There are really only 20 on the entire floor worth playing. Inexperienced management running this place and allow belligerent locals to go unruly. Not a nice place to visit after today. The casino at the Westin had more modern machines and a larger non smoking area. I would recommend this over Casino Malta.

Casino Malta is very welcoming. With all the staff that work there always being very friendly. Been a few times in the last few months and I don’t have anything bad to say about the casino or the staff (only bad thing is I lost on Black Jack last time I visited) 😭

Movie theater
Eden Cinemas is a newly refurbished movie theater in Malta with good sound and picture quality. Due to the small market size, there isn't much to watch but it's still a great place to see a movie. The theater is air conditioned so bring some kind of blanket if you're cold.
I visited Eden Cinemas this evening to watch the F1 film and had a fantastic experience. Without a doubt, this is the best cinema in Malta for watching a movie. The audio-visual quality is excellent, the seating is comfortable, and the atmosphere makes it perfect for really getting into the film. What stood out most was the variety of snacks available. I went all in nachos with jalapeños and cheese, popcorn, the blue Pringles, a no-caffeine Coke Zero, and ice cream. Everything was fresh and tasted great. I’ll be uploading photos and videos to show just how appealing everything looked it really adds to the full cinema experience. The ticket cost was €9.75, which I found reasonable considering the experience. Of course, the food is a little more expensive than supermarket prices, but nothing over the top for a cinema. The self-service ticket machines are very straightforward to use I ordered my ticket quickly without any hassle. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, which always makes a difference. Whether you’re a regular moviegoer or just looking for a fun evening out, Eden Cinemas delivers every time. Highly recommended!

Eden Cinema in Malta is located in the heart of St. Julian’s, close to restaurants and nightlife. While the venue is modern and has 9 screens, ticket prices are high and seats lack comfort, which affects the overall experience.

Cinema rooms are good, prices are fair (see costs in photos). There's no cost benefit to buying snacks online, BUT it does get you in the fast lane and double points if you're a member.

I visited Eden Cinemas two days in a row during my stay in Malta, and honestly, it was such a pleasant experience both times. We were mainly looking for a way to escape the intense summer heat after a near heatstroke and this cinema turned out to be the perfect refuge. One of the first things I appreciated was the parking. If you validate your ticket at the cinema, you only pay €3 for 4 hours, which I think is incredibly reasonable, especially considering how expensive parking can be in some areas. The cinema itself was clean and well-maintained. There weren’t many people there when we visited, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and quiet, a nice contrast to the usual noisy crowds you sometimes get at the movies. I also have to say, the popcorn was surprisingly good. I went for the sweet popcorn and found it both cheap and really tasty - definitely a highlight for me. It’s nice when cinemas don’t overcharge for snacks, and this one struck a great balance between quality and price. One thing that caught me off guard was the 10-minute intermission halfway through the film. At first it seemed a bit unusual, especially since I’m used to movies playing straight through, but I actually ended up appreciating it. It gave me a chance to use the bathroom without missing any of the movie, and I noticed others took advantage of the break as well. All in all, Eden Cinemas provided a cool, calm, and comfortable experience, perfect for beating the heat and enjoying a film or two. I’d happily come back next time I’m in Malta
Emilia — Google review
We were denied entry to the cinema because we didn't have our id cards. Apparently the film was to beautiful to watch. And obviously it was an Indian serving us. Welcome to Malta. After they made us pay 5 euro per person to cancel the ticket. We then went to the bathroom where we saw a sea of urine on the floor. We also saw two cockroaches. Horrible experience. The manager was also very rude telling us to get out of his establishment. Until we get a proper experience or sorry and our money back we will not remove this post. Never go to this cinema.

When to see a movie the smell of the screen was absolutely disgusting. Screen 6 to be exact, staff said they can’t smell anything we went back and forth explaining the smell eventually I left as I wasn’t going to back in that terrible smelling screen no matter the amount of money I paid and didn’t get back. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to the film. Would have given a -0 if possibly as the attitude of the staff was diabolical.

Went to the movies with my partner, nice atmosphere, great service, amazing film. There was a noise on the side of my seat, coming from a ventilator probably in room 1, maybe they’d want to check that out, it was a little annoying during the movie. But other than that, amazing nachos and popcorn! And, very nice staff.

Nestled in the vibrant Saint Julian's, The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta is a luxurious retreat offering spacious rooms and stunning sea views. This 5-star resort boasts upscale dining with panoramic Mediterranean vistas, outdoor pools, and exclusive access to two private beaches. Situated just a short drive from the historic St. John's Co-Cathedral, guests can enjoy modern amenities including a heated swimming pool and Wi-Fi throughout the property.
A Breakfast Worth Waking Up For – A Shining Star at The Westin Dragonara Having stayed at The Westin Dragonara several times, I can confidently say that the breakfast experience here deserves special praise — and much of that is thanks to Fabio, the man behind this exceptional morning ritual. This is not your average hotel breakfast. From the moment you enter, you're welcomed not just with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality products, but with warmth and genuine care from the entire team. The selection is outstanding — everything is carefully chosen and beautifully presented. Whether it’s the breads, fruits, hot dishes, or local specialties, every bite speaks of quality and attention to detail. What truly elevates the experience, though, is the staff. Simply adorable, attentive, and always eager to make sure every guest feels valued. It’s this spirit of hospitality that transforms a meal into a joyful experience. Chapeau to Fabio and all the team — your passion and dedication do not go unnoticed. Keep up the excellent work. You’ve set a benchmark that’s hard to beat!

We had a great stay overall. The rooms were nice, comfortable, and spacious, although a little old in style. The only downside was the air conditioning — it felt very moist and left me feeling unwell after using it overnight. It also had a slight moldy smell. Once we turned it off and used thin blankets instead, it was much better. The pool and beach areas were fantastic! We loved how easy it was to get food and drinks anywhere around the pool or beach — such convenient service. The Kids Club was another highlight. Our children (4 and 6) loved going there, especially spending time with Tracy and Pasani, who were both wonderful with them. I do wish there were more varied activities or small outings for the kids, but for leaving them for 1-2 hours, it was perfect, and they always came back happy. Overall, a great hotel with excellent pool and beach facilities, friendly staff, and a fun kids’ club — just be mindful of the air conditioning if you’re sensitive. (It’s also close 12€ per hour)

Booked tickets last minute going to Malta, next was the hotel to book as the our airline was going to land late at night. We found The Westin Dragonara Resort as we were looking for sea view and needed to relax and enjoy. The reviews we read were very positive and so booked it! When we got to the hotel it was already 1.30 am. The hotel staff were amazing and friendly. We checked in and headed to our room, and wow!! The room was lovely, beds were super comfy, the view from our room was awesome! Booked for 3 nights and had a brilliant time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view. Restaurants and bars are walking distances from the hotel. Breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked omelette etc....waffles and pancakes and had a excellent selection of yummy sweet desserts, fruits, cheese and fresh bread! All the staff were friendly, and happy to help. We had amazing time at the hotel. Thank you for your great service! 👌😊

We had such a great stay at the Westin Dragonara! From the moment we arrived, everyone was super welcoming and kind. They even gave us an upgrade, which honestly made our day — the room was huge, super clean, and the bed was so comfortable. Waking up to that sea view every morning was just perfect. Breakfast was one of the highlights — so much choice, everything fresh and tasty, and the staff were always smiling and ready to help. The whole place feels calm and relaxed, even though it’s close to everything in St. Julian’s. We spent a lot of time just enjoying the view and the pools, and it really felt like a proper getaway. Overall, an amazing experience — we left feeling so rested and happy. Would 100% come back again!

We loved everything, the staff is super friendly and professional the hotel is big but beautiful, the hotel rocky beach by the pool is just gorgeous, the gym and the indoor pool and spa very good. Breakfast with many options for every taste. We had a great time and hope to come back at some point.

We stayed at the Westin for 3 nights and had a room facing the Reef Club. The location of the hotel is excellent, in the St. Julian's district there are a variety of restaurants and bars, there is something for everyone. Hotel and rooms very clean. The service was very friendly and helpful. The hotel's facilities are very good, there is the possibility of swimming directly in the sea, lifeguards monitor this area. The quality of the rooms is also at a good level, but there are limitations: The whole room smelled very unpleasantly of chlorine or cleaning agents. In the bathroom you can hear every word/noise from the neighbor's bathroom. The air conditioning was very loud and my wife could only tolerate it at night with earplugs. Sleeping with the window open was not an option as the road to the casino was busy even at night. Despite the loud air conditioning, the humidity in the room was very high, so that even clothes in the suitcase became noticeably heavier and could only dry in the next hotel. Breakfast unfortunately not very good and not at a 5 star level. After checking the room number, we were told twice that there were no free tables available outside. In both cases we went outside ourselves and each time there were several tables available. The service here is only superficially helpful, they don't seem to have any desire to really help the guest, they just want to brush them off. Orange juice is not 100% but tastes like sugar water, omelette is not made with fresh eggs but with a ready-made mix, ordering coffee at the table took 20 minutes. We then got the coffee ourselves. Here is also a point of criticism: There is no real clear path from the outside area to the inside area. There are tables everywhere, in the middle there are two coffee machines on the left and right, which service and guests use. The entire area would have to be reorganized. Air conditioning and breakfast would have to change, then we would like to stay at the Westin again.

Fortress
Historical landmark
Fort Manoel is a star-shaped seaside fort built in 1723, located on Manoel Island near the town of Gzira, Malta. It was constructed by the Knights of Saint John to protect Marsamxett port and the bay of Sliema. The fort has a square design with four bastions forming a star shape, surrounded by ditches and walls. Although it suffered heavy bombing during World War II, it is now being carefully restored.
Nice place for visit, however you are not allowed to enter inside this historical landmark, it’s closed. There were filmed many scenes for films inside. Also you are not allowed to drive till Fort Manoel, no cars allowed after some point at island entrance.

Fort Manoel is one of the most important places in the history of Malta, currently under restoration and is a wonderful site for its architecture, design and the view towards Valletta.
IAN M — Google review
I was just passing by walking the dog and was lucky to find the fort having an open day. Normally it is closed and especially from the back it looks run down. From the inside you can see this enormous square with a lot of buildings around it, officer houses, a chapel and munition warehouse with a suberb sight over the bay between Valetta and Sliema. They are renovating it and on this open day they had people dressed up in 16th century clothing. Really interesting

Date of Visit: 22 Nov 2024 AM. Fort entrance blocked by fences and security booth at entrance to fort is dishevelled and unused/unmanned. Only option is to walk to the Sliema side of the island for the views of Sliema and Valetta, which are really good.

Went there yesterday, closed because they're setting up to film Gladiator 2 inside the fort so you couldn't get access, you can still walk around the island. Nice views around and plenty of areas to sit down.

Manoel island - and though definitely the fort - was always a "secret island" for locals. Today was the 2nd opportunity ever to go there for the public. And my first time. It is such a great place of character, it should be always open and always public! You can experience and it's documented how much efforts and money was put in there to restore historical beauty of architecture - for a military purpose that time. So, EU money was spent very well - but ONLY if this is going to be accessible public, 24/7.. I remember a posting, mentioning a "Central Park " for Malta. This would be great!
Aquin K — Google review
I was disappointed about the abandon of this place. The view is marvellous but the whole place is not suitable for walks and visiting. At each step there are signs of "collapse danger" and there is no sign of rehabilitation of the place. It's a pity because it lost it's beauty.
Iulia G — Google review
Actually this is sad place between Valletta & Sliema. But if you want to enjoy view to Valletta from distance it worth to visit. Please be sure Manoel island in terms of tourist infrastructure are not friendly place. But if you like to avoid crowded places this place is perfect match.

Hugo's Boutique Hotel is a stylish and edgy hotel located in the vibrant district of Paceville, St. Julians. The hotel offers chic rooms with modern technology and is surrounded by nightclubs, bars, and St. Georges Bay beach just a short walk away. Guests can enjoy breakfast at the nearby H Hotel. The hotel features themed floors with distinct characters and an indoor pool and sauna, although the rooftop pool is currently closed.
I booked the Superior Suite with a terrace and hot tub, and it was absolutely wonderful! The hotel was just as beautiful as the photos, and the service was exceptional. I especially want to highlight the incredible hospitality of the receptionist-I didn’t catch her name, but she was a lovely Filipina lady. She was so warm and welcoming, and we had such a great chat.

Trash. Fake Luxury. Some style points but no substance. Nothing actually works. Including even with 3 employee’s help the lights wouldn’t turn off. So we had to sleep with the lights on or remove the card and no AC in 30+ degrees. Thats without mentioning the noise and other things like the coffee machine not working. Looked for some form of gesture as an apology. Was told to walk-on. Very Malta, very Paceville and very Hugo experience all around

Late review – we stayed at this hotel for one night on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We had an issue with the jacuzzi — there was no water coming from the tap. Despite several attempts to fix it, the problem wasn’t resolved until around midnight by a handyman. We ended up using the jacuzzi briefly the next morning after breakfast, but only for about an hour. The breakfast was good overall, though there was no fresh orange juice, which was a letdown. At night, we decided to order food from the hotel restaurant. I checked the menu and prices beforehand, but we were never informed over the phone that there would be a €10 to €15 “delivery” charge just to bring the food up to our room — only two storeys up. This extra fee was a surprise at checkout and felt like a hidden charge. Another disappointing part was the minibar. Two small packets of peanuts and a small bottle of water cost around €15. What made it worse was that the hotel didn’t even realize we took those items — I had to point it out myself at checkout, because we’re not the kind of people who take things without paying. To top it all off, just as we were leaving, one of their staff stopped us and asked me to go back inside because of an “issue.” They claimed I had to pay €20 to wash a pillow due to a stain. I obviously didn’t accept this easily and spent over 30 minutes arguing and explaining that the charge was completely unfair — especially after all the hassle we already went through. Between the jacuzzi problem, the overpriced minibar, the undisclosed room service charge, and the ridiculous pillow fee — this stay was a complete letdown. Never again.

I stayed at Hugo’s Boutique Hotel expecting a relaxing and enjoyable time based on their marketing and photos, but unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. I’ve stayed in many hotels across Europe, and I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was truly unacceptable on several levels. First of all, the noise levels were absolutely unbearable. Despite the hotel claiming to offer a “luxury boutique experience,” it felt more like trying to sleep inside a nightclub. The music from nearby clubs or the rooftop area played loudly until the early hours of the morning (sometimes past 2 or 3 am), and even with earplugs, it was impossible to get a proper night’s sleep. The hotel is simply not soundproofed, which is shocking for the price they charge. Secondly, the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms were far below standard. The floors were sticky, the bathroom had a constant sewage smell, and there was visible mold around the shower area. Some of the room features that are advertised as “luxury” were either broken or outdated. The jacuzzi bath didn’t work properly and did look extremly older than advertised. Service was inconsistent and at times even disrespectful. While a couple of staff members were polite, the overall attitude felt indifferent and unprofessional. I understood the language a bit and noticed them making fun about me. Lastly, value for money is terrible. I paid a premium rate expecting a quality stay, and I left feeling cheated. This hotel might work for some people looking to party all night and sleep through the day, but for anyone expecting even a basic level of comfort, cleanliness, or service – look elsewhere. Definitely would not recommend.

Jacuzzi? Broken - but then fixed AC? Broken - then semi-fixed - ran at minimum power throughout our stay. TV? does not work - cannot be fixed Toilet? Running throughout day and night - was told it does not need to be fixed - and then flushing stopped working permanently. Not fixed. Phone to reception? Broken - cannot be fixed - can only call reception via Whatsapp. Jacuzzi tutorial? For a different model of jacuzzi than the one they have…. Good note is the staff is brilliant - from reception to maintenance. The issue is not them, it’s the state of the appliances. We were offered a complimentary upgrade for our troubles - However, no other room with a jacuzzi was available - and that’s honestly the only reason I booked a room at the H boutique. The complimentary room had a sauna, but with our AC issues in this Maltese heat - our room was basically a sauna itself 🤕 This will be my first negative review of a luxury hotel in Malta - so far, all have at the very least - no problem with the essentials. Luxury hotels have a lot of pressure - so I try not to add to it - but you simply cannot charge a price like the Hugo’s boutique charges and have the essentials irreparably damaged during a customer’s stay. A (very) weak AC during a Maltese summer? Instead of enjoying the room we paid for, we avoided being there as much as possible - as it was too hot. Safe to say we didn’t get much out of our jacuzzi suite. On a good note, location is great if you want to experience the Maltese nightlife - there are also parties on rooftop which you can attend at no extra charge! We didn’t hear any of the club music from inside our room - so maybe that depends on the room’s positioning in the hotel. Due to everything mentioned above, I cannot recommend the Hugo’s boutique hotel - but I can say a great thank you to the dedicated staff - who always try their best and do it with a smile!

Overall the stay was really good. My husband and I were in Malta celebrating my birthday. Here are the pros: hotel is located near lots of restaurants and bars There’s a nice shopping complex near by and a convenience store located 5 mins away If you wish to travel further out, there’s plenty of bus stops that can get you to the main tourist attractions pretty quickly The staff are friendly and quick to help The amenities are nice. The swimming pool area outdoors is a little small and it feels like everyone’s squashed together but apart from that it’s fine Sauna stream room is great Lovely walk-in wardrobe space to keep suitcases etc. out the way The room is very spacious Cons: It’s extremely noisy until 4am. You will need to bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper There’s a huge scene for 18-20 year olds near the hotel. It seems like a mini zante or magaluff which could be a good or bad thing depending on what you’re there for Cleaning the floors outside of the hotel happens around 10am which is extremely late and there are walls of smell outside the hotel that hits you as you walk up the stairs and head towards sliema The bathroom set up needs looking at. Water leaks from the shower to the main bathroom and doesn’t dry even when placing towels down. This is a hazard for anyone who may struggle with mobility or had one too many too drink They are trying to be eco friendly with placing an additional message asking people to put their towels on the floor if it MUST be washed, to save the climate. However, the towels will need additional unnecessary changing as it’s used to keep the floor dry. So the eco friendly message isn’t really working. The mini zoomed in mirror is not made for short people and is awkwardly positioned There’s no hair conditioner for females and the bath gel does not specifically say it’s for hair, so not sure if it will impact women’s hair after a few washes Tea is not complimentary in the hotel room which is usually complimentary in every other hotel I’ve stayed in The door in the bathroom is completely transparent, so not very sexy for when you need some privacy using the toilet!! During check-out, they unexpectedly asked us to wait for them to check the room before we check-out. This should have been communicated during the check-in process so that we can allow for an extra 20 minutes. We managed to get out of waiting as we were running late for our plane. Make sure you check-out ahead of time to allow for this.

I stayed at the hotel for a very special occasion — my boyfriend’s birthday — hoping everything would go smoothly and feel special. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We had a serious issue in our room: the lights couldn’t be turned off the entire night. We spoke to several receptionists and managers, but no one was able to solve the problem. The main reason to book a hotel is to rest, and sadly, we weren’t able to do that. On top of that, there was a lot of noise coming from outside, which made it even harder to sleep. It was a frustrating experience, especially given how important and meaningful the night was to us.

Hotel Juliani is an upscale boutique hotel located in Malta, offering chic rooms with bay views and modern decor. The Junior Suites are elegantly spacious, featuring premium bedding, stylish bathrooms, and comfortable living areas. Guests can enjoy amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TVs, and stunning sea views. The hotel boasts a rooftop terrace and pool with panoramic views of Spinola Bay.
Me and my daughter just returned back from a weeks stay at Hotel Juliani in Malta. We were greeted with a big smile by their receptionists and operation manager and received complimentary drinks upon our arrival. Our room was absolutely stunning with beautiful sea views (I would definitely recommend paying extra for sea view). The roof top was beautiful with plenty of sun beds and well kept pool and complimentary towels. The hotel itself was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast buffet was yummy and everything was cooked to perfection. Great selection of food and drink. All the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to help make our stay amazing. The housekeeping was spot on, although there seemed to be a shortage of towels and face cloths on couple of occasions but not big enough issue to deduct a star from our review. The only thing we really did miss was a long, full size mirror in our room. The hotel is a few minutes walk away from all the hustle and bustle so there was no noice coming from any of the nightclubs and bars. There are plenty of lovely restaurants near by and the hotel has its own highly rated restaurant but regretfully we didn’t get a chance to dine there. We will not hesitate booking this hotel again if we go back to the same location in Malta. We will upload pictures later. Many thanks to Hotel Juliani and their wonderful staff xx

10 out of 10! Starting from the staff — all hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked a sea view room — the room and bed were very comfortable, clean, and spacious. The balcony was large, with an absolutely stunning view. The area is quite crowded, but the soundproofing is excellent, so you can sleep peacefully without any noise. As for the location — it’s amazing! Very easy to reach any part of Malta. There are also plenty of restaurants and coffee shops nearby, so you’ll never go hungry.Breakfast at the hotel was also delicious, especially the Greek yogurt bowl. As a very picky person, I loved everything about Hotel Juliani — the atmosphere and aura take your holiday experience to another level. ❤️ Special thanks to William and Alfred!

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Juliani. The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. One of the highlights was the rooftop pool on the 9th floor — the view from up there is amazing and it’s a perfect spot to relax. The location is also great: right across from a bus station (super convenient for exploring the island), and in a quiet part of St. Julian’s, away from clubs or construction noise. The only downside was the breakfast. While the food was good, the variety was very limited — the same few options every day for a whole week, which got repetitive. Overall, a very pleasant hotel with a great atmosphere, perfect location, and beautiful rooftop views. Just a little more variety at breakfast would make it excellent.

Not a bad thing to say about this hotel. It was our 3rd time staying at Hotel Juliani and it exceeds expectations every-time. From the moment we walked in being greeted by their friendly staff, Ojo made us feel at home. We arrived a few hours before check in time, and they allowed us to check in early. We opted for a Sea View room which has amazing views of Spinola and provides a great place to enjoy an evening drink on the balcony and watch over the bustling bay. The Rooftop Pool and Bar is a lovely bonus, but it would’ve been nice if they had a longer happy hour so we could’ve enjoyed some longer evenings up there. Breakfast at the hotel is perfect, a great range of Pastries, Fruit and Hot Breakfast and the best fresh orange juice we’ve ever had. Location wise it’s perfect with a number of great restaurants within a couple of minutes walk from the front entrance and a bus stop opposite to take you almost anywhere on the island. Thank you again to Ojo and all the staff for making it another wonderful stay. Until next time Hotel Juliani.

Had a great stay at the Hotel Juliani. Started our stay with several spa services which were all incredible (Salt scrub, hydro facials, and massages). Very reasonably priced as well. Staff was welcoming and accommodating. The bar and lounge had a great vibe, and the cocktails were excellent! Rooms were comfy with plenty of space and a great view!

From the very first to the very last second of our stay, absolutely perfect! The staff were professional, friendly, and attentive to every request - from holding our luggage well before check-in, to preparing the room early, and offering complimentary drinks. Everyone we interacted with was excellent. We were given beautiful rooms on the 8th floor with a stunning view of Spinola Bay. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the shower in the bathroom was just perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. We stayed for just one night, and once we checked in, we didn’t feel the need to leave the hotel until check-out. The rooftop pool, delicious happy hour cocktails, and the excellent Zest restaurant made everything even better. Breakfast the next morning was tasty and kept us full well into the afternoon. All in all, unbeatable value for money. Highly recommended!

I had a wonderful time at Hotel Juliani in Malta. The view over Spinola Bay was absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere was so relaxing and elegant. Everything from the service to the rooftop pool was perfect. I truly felt great and can’t wait to come back!

Best expérience since long time ago, the location is perfect, service is amazing from each one of the team. The pool is great… I can not say any negative ( sorry, the curtain in the the bathroom shower, that was meriting a nice glass… nevertheless, curtain open and you take your shower with sea views…. Amazing!!!). Thanks to whole team for this wonderful week… we will be back!

Nice and fun environment, great go play with family and friends. This place is loaded of games. They do not have the withdrawal machine but is not a problem as there is one in the building. They do change notes in coins. Highly recommend

Had an absolutely fantastic time at MULTIMAXX Family Entertainment Center in Bay Street, St. Julian’s! Located on the highest floor of the complex, this place is a must-visit for anyone looking for fun and excitement. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the modern, well-designed space and the variety of entertainment options available. The highlight for us was definitely the Laser Tag—it was incredible! The arena is well-designed with great obstacles, and an immersive atmosphere that makes the game so much fun. Whether you’re playing with friends, family, or even in a larger group, it’s an adrenaline-pumping experience that keeps you coming back for more. The equipment is top-notch, and everything is well-maintained. Beyond Laser Tag, the center offers a variety of other games and activities, making it the perfect spot for kids, teens, and even adults who love a bit of competition and fun. The staff were super friendly and helpful, ensuring we had a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. MULTIMAXX is a fantastic addition to Bay Street, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something exciting to do in St. Julian’s. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Malta, this is a great place to have fun, challenge your friends, and make great memories. I’ll definitely be back soon—and I’ll be attaching photos and videos to show just how awesome this place is!

Really well-equipped arcade and laser quest. The managers on site when we were there were extremely helpful and encouraging! I managed to beat the kickboxing top score and win a +15€ pass too which made our stay even more competitive and fun. Any issues we had with faulty machines were dealt with quickly and efficiently. We were impressed to find games we had never played before such as football pinball, surfing, and axe throwing!
David R — Google review
A good place to spend time with friends or your children. there are different locations. I recommend you try the battlemax, a very exciting two-hour game. Also many arcade machines and especially liked laser tag game, very exciting. The best place in Malta to have a good time
Elvira N — Google review
Fun place. Most games cost 1-2€ each. The VR and Laser i found it way too expensive and not hygienic for post COVID times. Nice place to pass the time.
Melissa F — Google review
Amazing place , has lots of games to play with friends and especially laser tag which is of great fun. Location is great as there are shops around and also restaurants.
Mark C — Google review
If you don’t know this exists you will never get there as there really aren’t any clear indications at the Bay Street Shopping that lead you to this arcade. You need to go all the way up to the highest level of the Bay Street Shopping complex to enter this arcade. It is a great place for teenagers to hang out ! I am giving it three stars because of the lack of changing machines for coins and the lack of directions!

Was great, a really amazing experience and great location in the old prison for our outdoor laser game night. Hosts were very patient and attentive and spicing up every round we played with different modes and rules. Super highly recommended for a fun night. Will organise again very soon.

Island
Manoel Island, located in the middle of Marsamxett Harbour near Malta's capital city Valletta, is a historical gem with a fort dating back to the 16th century. The island offers stunning views and is connected to Sliema by a causeway. Despite its slightly derelict feel, it boasts beautiful scenery and is popular for weddings and events. Visitors can explore the fort while restoration work takes place.
I really like this island. So nice, so peaceful, tranquil. One of the few places in Malta not as yet being developed. I really hope it never is. It should be declared a national park
Peter S — Google review
Manoel Island lies between Sliema and Valletta, connected to the former by a causeway along which you can walk. The island has a slightly derelict feel, with many signs warning that you must obey the security guards and that you must not stray from the path. Visiting feels transgressive. Naughty. Anyway, after walking along the causeway you come to the edge of a large fort, built by the Knights of St John – this is currently being restored so you cannot enter. You can, on the other hand, walk all the way around the outside – this includes right up to the ornate entry door. The fort itself is an impressive, chunky thing and the island offers excellent views of Valletta and the citadel there. I think if we’re open, this would be a five star place to visit. The island seems to be popular with those looking for a secluded spot to sunbathe, to drink and to wander. There are several drinks machines on site so you can buy water.

A small island where on one side you can see Sliema and on the other side Valetta. It is quite abandoned, in fact there are signs everywhere stating that there is a risk of some old construction parts falling down. Unfortunately it is not well maintained. Most of the buildings are not used anymore and they are not in good shape. Though still it is nice to take a walk on the island. You can either take the proper path or jump from one stone to the other one on the shore and go back to the fond memories of your childhood 😊
Özge E — Google review
Great vantage point of Sliema, you can drive to a certain point, and then you have to walk. Some areas are secured and restricted and not possible to continue, but there are still open walkways and pathways around. Great for a casual stroll!!!

Nestled amidst the bustling hotel district, Santa Rita Chapel is a serene oasis dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia, known as the patron saint of impossible causes. Construction began in 1926 and was completed by 1928, but it faced destruction during World War II before being restored in 1944. Today, this charming chapel remains an active place of worship where visitors can find solace away from the city's hustle and bustle.
Beautiful chapel and very peaceful
A C — Google review
Built in the early 20th century, the chapel is dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of impossible causes and desperate situations. Fittingly, many locals — especially women — still stop by to light candles, leave small notes, or say quiet prayers for healing, hope, or love. It’s a place of personal devotion, far from the crowds. One of the most beautiful traditions? On St. Rita’s feast day (May 22nd), the chapel overflows with red roses 🌹 — a symbol tied to the miraculous rose that bloomed in her convent during winter. Locals bring flowers in hopes of intercession, and the air fills with incense and whispered hopes.
