Petroglyph National Monument, located west of the Rio Grande, is a vast desert park adorned with over 23,000 ancient petroglyphs dating back to 1000 BCAD 1700. The site showcases prehistoric Native American drawings on stone walls, with some carvings added by early Spanish settlers. Visitors can explore several trails such as Boca Negra Canyon, Piedras Marcadas, and Rinconada Canyon to observe these historical rock carvings.
It’s a nice place to pay a visit if you are in the way to Arizona. Went to the Visitor Center and learn about the history and old Pueblo rock carvings known as the Petroglyphs. Before the hike, you may be encouraged by the information ranger, to watch a short video near the gift shop so that hikers may appreciate the monument. There are a few trails and the easier and short trails can find around 100 over petroglyphs. Other trails can have more than 200 of them. I do enjoy the visit and getting some souvenirs.
Brenda Q — Google review
We went here during the government shut down. The staff was still there! Giving directions and answering questions. Now the visitor center was closed of course but they were still outside the gates to help us. Wonderful humans! They didn't have the passport stamps at the "Main Gate" but drew a date stamp for me in my book. That guy made my day doing that. I loved him for doing that. When we got to one of the trails they had the stamp there so I got both ❤️. It made a sad situation in our country that more memorable because of the human nature, kindness, regular people sharing an experience together, for each other. It was amazing seeing the art someone left behind so long ago. Trying to understand what they were thinking. Seeing a captured moment in time of the thought of another human being. Some make perfect sense and some you will walk away wondering what in the world was that. If you get the chance take a walk where others have stepped for so long.
FxFalcon — Google review
Really neat place. Much larger than I thought. Started at the middle parking lot and walked to the rinconada trail to the south... thats a good distance away and not many petroglyphs along the way. Turns out there's 3 parking lots... north , central and south and I think even on the back side fir the volcano. After the south trail I drove to the north and there is neighborhoods and gas stations and restaurants in between... feels like an entirely different park but its connected. This was my first time getting ours of petroglyphs and I had no idea it would be so fun to find them hidden in the rocks. Gonna add this to my list of things to photograph as I travel.
Cyrus B — Google review
A piece of history that you definitely need to see! Very well maintained and great signage! The hiking trails range from moderate to difficult, depending on which site you choose to visit. We went with the Boca Negra Canyon which showcases around 100 petroglyphs and is not a difficult hike at all. I didn't see all of them but I saw quite a few. We spent about 1 hour and 30 minutes there. Also, I started with the Visitors Center and got some good info and a map to start. It is free to visit...
Pamela B — Google review
Amazing place to hike. Do be aware there isn't much parking (I went to boca negra canyon after not being able to park at the visitor center). Also, no shade, so wear a hat if you sunburn easily. Loved seeing all the pictures on the rocks from the past.
Kari C — Google review
Amazing stop some difficult hikes if you have mobility challenges but there is a nice walkway for easier options. Well worth the hike if your are moderately fit. Beautiful historical artifacts at no charge.
Rena P — Google review
Oh my gosh, why are 700-year-old rock carvings so fascinating?! I mean all it is is some people sitting around chipping away at these rocks to make pictures. Yet here I am in 95° weather walking all around this lava rock hill trying to find as many of them as I can. But there's so much more behind it than that because you don't know what these people were thinking when they carved these certain symbols. What they meant in life to them or to the community or to the universe. When I go to these places I always look around that area to see what kind of terrain and such that these people were living in day by day. Compared to the luxuries that we have today it looks so hot and dry and inhospitable but they knew how to live off the land and with the land and took advantage of every little thing that was provided to them yet they never wasted anything. There are several trails to chose from. Me... in the right place at the wrong time. #mysteryladystravelingfeet #thegreatoutdoors #historical #gypsylife #historylovers #travelwithme #hikingtrails #newmexico #lavarocks #makingmemories #AmericanHistory #NativeHeritage #petroglyphs

From what we could see during the government shutdown it was a good place to visit. We walked in via the access trail and were able to go into the canyon to see petroglyphs. I really liked how there were very few signs pointing out where the petroglyphs were - it was like a scavenger hunt!

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico is a comprehensive museum showcasing pottery, arts and crafts, jewelry, and more from local Native American tribes. It serves as an introduction to the state's 19 pueblos, offering resources on Native American culture, history, and art. The center also features the Pueblo Harvest restaurant which offers a fantastic menu including the popular crispy frybread with savory toppings.
Such a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere. Calming and clean, I’m so happy I visited. I’m not from any tribe in the US but am Dene (Dine in the US) from Canada and I was only charged $1, loved that. The display as soon as I walked in made me cry, it made me feel so connected to my roots and make me realize how proud and resilient we are as Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. I then visited the craft shop and the restaurant that topped off my visit. Proud to be Indigenous! I highly recommend a visit.

Nice museum dedicated to the history, culture, and arts of the Pueblo Indians. It was enriching and full of history that I was not familiar with. Very insightful...self-guided for $12, gift shop, and restaurant serving authentic cuisine.
Pamela B — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. We attended during Balloon Fiesta week on a Tuesday and were able to see a couple of different dance troupes that were very talented . We found the history of the people and arcitecture very interesting. We ate in the restaurant and the food and service were phenomenal! Shout out to our server Mark! I want to go back because we didn't get to spend enough time looking at the exhibits.
Thomas S — Google review
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is a must-see for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and understanding of the Pueblo Society. The museum has a rotating exhibit area that hi-lited several modern Pueblan artists, a fantastic exhibit on Pueblan architecture, and an expansive permanent exhibit on the history and culture of the Pueblan peoples. We also enjoyed the numerous small niches with videos, stories, and dialect demonstrations. We left with a much better understanding of the 19 Pueblo communities in New Mexico. We ended up spending almost five hours here, including about 2 1/2 hours in the exhibits, an hour at the dance/ ceremony, another hour at the restaurant, and a half hour perusing the gift shop and vendors. We arrived before 10 am and found plenty of parking in the lot behind the Center. Admission is very reasonable. The staff and volunteers were courteous and welcoming. We recommend eating lunch at the restaurant connected to the Center. The restaurant has a separate entrance for the public, but you can also access the restaurant from the museum.
Dawn J — Google review
What an amazing experience. This was our first visit to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Our group enjoyed the traditional dance and presentation. You can easily spend an entire day reading the educational plaques, enjoying the local art, watching the presentation, eating lunch and browsing the gift shop. Everything was so well done. It’s a great place to visit if you are wanting to learn more about the Puebloan tribes. You can either purchase your tickets online or at the entrance.
Rachel D — Google review
It had nice pottery displayed and some good interactive elements, like hearing different stories and dialects from different pueblos. It was a bit small, and the rotating exhibits were not as interesting. The food was good at the restaurant, and I'd want to go when they have live performances

Such a beautiful place. The museum is full of beautiful, sacred art. The gifshop is the same there is a list of purchases I want. The restaurant was awesome, the food delicious and the staff friendly and welcoming.
Tracy P — Google review
Definitely a museum to visit to learn about the history, resilience and magnificence of the 19 pueblos of New Mexico. I'd recommend a good two hours, but it's very well planned (i.e. not a museum that overwhelms you with information). There's also a great gift shop and a cafeteria.

San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, an adobe church founded in 1706 and rebuilt in 1793, stands as one of the oldest buildings in the city. Located just north of Central Avenue at the west end of Route 66's downtown stretch, this historic site offers a glimpse into New Mexico's Spanish colonial past. The church has retained its original Southwestern style despite undergoing renovations over the years. Adjacent to the church is a museum showcasing furnishings and art from its history.
This is a House of God. It is inappropriate to review these sacred places. My experience was equally blessed, as I met staff and parishioners who were doing God’s work with children and with the homeless in Albuquerque. I will remember this place fondly and will return if I ever get the chance.
Mark C — Google review
We liked it all lot. It is a basilica and there is a lot of history there. We did get a chance to say some prayers and the church was so peaceful we really liked it.
Christopher M — Google review
It was like walking through history. I enjoyed browsing the museum and learning about the historic pieces. It doesn’t take long to walk through the church, museum or gift shop. It was a unique experience for me since it was my first time viewing Adobe construction.

Visited twice in 10 days. Historic church great gift shop and grounds. St Philip Neri is one of my personal favorite saints. Gift shop staff are great.
Michael D — Google review
Beautiful church to look at. Built in 1706. Spoke to a volunteer that has attended the church for 60 years!
Irene E — Google review
Beautiful church! The smell, the peace and calmness that this chapel had is something I will take back with me to Kansas. So happy I got the opportunity to visit. What a historical gem for us Catholics!
Jocelyn M — Google review
The church is just beside the Old Town Plaza of Albuquerque. It's a smaller church but not short of solemnity. There's a gift shop beside the church full of religious items and artwork. I was totally fixated on the Santo Intiero image inside the church and the Mother Mary image inside a tree trunk outside the church.
Jess Z — Google review
San Felipe de Neri is a beautiful early 18th century church in Old Town Albuquerque. The external courtyard is beautiful, but visitors can see the church interior by going through the gift shop. There is a small room behind the gift shop with artefacts from the original church and old photos. San Felipe de Neri doesn't charge for entry to the church, so please consider making a donation to help defray maintenance and operating costs.

Situated in the heart of Old Town, Albuquerque Museum is a local history museum housed in a modernist building. Since its establishment in 1967, it has been renowned for showcasing the diverse culture and rich heritage of the Southwest through its extensive collection of over 7,000 items. The museum features maps, photos, crafts, and high-quality art from the region. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions with a community focus and enjoy live performances at its state-of-the-art amphitheater.
There is a lot to see and take in here. One thing that stands out for me was the gigantic map of Albuquerque on the floor of the Albuquerque room. The outdoor sculptures in front and back are very impressive, too. There are also some rooms showing videos of our shared history. This is a great place to bring children as well as teenagers as it is a learning experience for all ages.

We visited the Albuquerque Museum today and were absolutely impressed. This place is a treasure trove of art, culture, and history. The exhibitions are thoughtfully curated, covering everything from the region’s rich cultural past to striking contemporary pieces. I loved the mix of beautiful paintings, striking sculptures, and historical artifacts that bring New Mexico’s diverse stories to life. The entire space is clean, bright, and beautifully maintained — truly a pleasure to walk through. Even the bathrooms were spotless, which is always a plus. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. One thing I particularly appreciated was how accessible and well laid out the museum is. It’s easy to navigate, with plenty of benches and spots to pause and take everything in. The sculpture garden is a peaceful oasis, and the rotating exhibitions add something fresh for repeat visits. If you're in Albuquerque, this museum is a must-see. Whether you're an art lover, history buff, or just looking for a relaxing, enriching afternoon, the Albuquerque Museum delivers. Can’t wait to return!
Dmitry Z — Google review
I do not remember the names of the rooms, but only two really represented what I used to expect from a city museum, the one about Albuquerque and the other one about the Library. But I think it is my fault, because all the rest is about the local artists and it is completely correct right? I really think it is, but unfortunately I also believe I don't know how to appreciate art, I simply don't know. I really loved some paintings, like the one with two indigenous, and some other ones, but the piece of concrete in the ground, I think I will never understand that. The seesaw is also incredible, a mix of sadness and genius.

Awesome museum with art sculptures, multiple educational theatres, and plenty of historical info. My favorite part was the Free old town tour at 11am. Dave was super cool and had lots of info about the town! Highly recommend. Free admission Sundays 9am-1pm.

Albuquerque is so lucky to have this amazing museum! Filled with beautiful exhibits on both Albuquerque and the Southwest, this museum is a must see while visiting Albuquerque. Admission is very reasonable and the air conditioning felt wonderful on this hot summer day. We spent 3 hours there and could have even stayed longer, there was so much to see. The museum is immaculately maintained. There is a gift shop and café. I will include some photos from our visit.

I absolutely loved this museum. As a new Albuquerque resident, seeing local art and learning about the local history was wonderful. I've been here al month now and am loving the people, the nature, the food, and the history. These exhibits made me even more excited to call Albuquerque my new home! Gallery one and two won't be open until next month. Can't wait to check them out.

The Sandia Peak Tramway, located in the Sandia Foothills on the eastern edge of Albuquerque, is a must-visit attraction offering a 2.7-mile aerial tram ride with stunning views of the city and mountains. As North America's longest aerial tram, it provides an exhilarating experience as it ascends to the peak of the magnificent Sandia Mountains.
My adult son and I went here when I visited nearby and it was THE best!! The tram runs people up and down to the top of the mountain every 15-20min up until around 6:30pm I believe. The ride up didn't take long at all and there was an employee riding up, giving the history of the area and the tram itself. The views were absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous! Once at the top, you can hike around at your own discretion. There's a beautiful ski lift around the back for the wintertime. There are also several trails. We did some light walking due to bear alert signs. There's a restaurant at the top as well. It's a bit on the pricey side. We were fortunate enough to catch two guys who were hang gliding at the very top of the peak! It was such an amazing experience! There's also a cute little gift shop at the base of the mountain.
Rachel — Google review
a bit on the pricey side, but absolutely worth it. We went on a partially cloudy afternoon, and the shifting light made the scenery even more dramatic, with layers of mountains, sky, and city unfolding beneath us. The ride itself is smooth and scenic, and once at the top, the short trail along the ridge to the cabin was breathtaking — one of the highlights of the visit. Do keep in mind that temperatures can drop quickly at dusk, even in the middle of summer, so bring an extra layer if you plan to linger for sunset.
Yunong S — Google review
The Sandia Peak Tramway was absolutely amazing! The views were breathtaking – from the city below to the surrounding mountains, it felt like a postcard come to life. There was no wait for the tram, which made the experience even smoother. The guides were great, sharing lots of history and interesting facts both on the way up and on the way down. It was definitely worth it, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Mexico. The views alone make it unforgettable!
Stacy M — Google review
Beautiful! Lift operators were knowledgeable and friendly. All the staff were very helpful. We only managed a hike up to the Kiwanis cabin due to time constraints but it was beautiful. I would recommend bringing something a little more sturdier than running shoes to hike in, a water bottle and be prepared for altitude. My wife experienced a little bit of sickness. Her first time experiencing it. Other than that I highly recommend this tour.
Ronnie C — Google review
Must have tickets in advance. Arrive 2 hours early. If possible have 1 member of your party wait in line and others walk around. Bring layers, it is cold at night. Packed in to the tram 🚊, hard to see out. On the way down folks were nice and let the kids be by the window. Need a reservation for the restaurant. Go during the day so you can hike. We went up when it was light, then down after sunset. If you looked hard, saw lights in the distance from the balloon fesita glow.
Laura G — Google review
Amazing experience! Highly recommend taking this tram 🚋 for stunning views! ⛰️ 🤩 ☁️ We had the earliest reservation and checked in at 8:45am. We were the first group to go up around 9:17am. Window🪟 view was great for photos and videos. 📸 🎥
L — Google review
The waits can be long due to the popularity, so do plan to have one person in your party that can hold your place in line. The trams can hold 45 people, standing room only. About 2 seats available. The views are worth it. The restaurant has casual and reservation only dining. The food is excellent. We went up during heavy fog and rain on the peak and still had a great time. This is a time consuming outing, so pack your patience. If I had a choice, I would go up again, but only if the peak is clear.
Rebecca W — Google review
The experience has been outstanding thus far, characterized by breathtaking scenery. This is a highly recommended attraction, offering a seamless ride up the mountain and spectacular views, along with excellent photo opportunities and courteous staff.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque offers a wide range of interactive exhibits for visitors of all ages. From dinosaur skeletons to space exploration, the museum provides an educational and entertaining experience. Children can enjoy hands-on activities at the Naturalist Center and observe real scientists at work in the Fossilworks Lab. Additionally, the museum's Sunshine building has historical significance as one of Albuquerque's first movie theaters, adding to its cultural value.
Lots of dinosaur exhibits here. And a volcano. And underwater stuff. And space stuff. Nice gift shop. We came here to see dinosaurs in 3D, but missed it and had to see desert elephants in 3D. Which was probably better. Not crowded on a Thursday in late January.

Museum style exhibits and interpretation. Some amazing artefacts and rich detail for the interested. Incredibly contemporary looking ceramics from thousands of years ago. Gave me more insight to origins of life here, it’s native people and the way this part of the would developed and has been shaped by external forces.

My kids and I traveled to Albuquerque for a quick visit and had a great time at the museum. Prices were extremely reasonable and we enjoyed learning about the natural history of New Mexico. They have a lot of interactive exhibits that make visiting fun for all ages. The clerk at the front, Lisa, was wonderful and so friendly. Highly recommend buying tickets at the counter as you will get a great deal on show tickets. We saw the Mission to Mars show in the planetarium and the 3D Desert Elephants show. Such a great time!

I thought it was going to be a little more educational but still had some cute crafts to do. Love the new area especially the post card set up but wish they still had the space area.

This place was the best on our trip in Albuquerque. We were military so it was free. But it's worth every penny of admission they charge. We spend all morning there

Great little museum! Not many exhibits that have changed since I was a kid growing home but my kids were done fast because it was “normal” for them. The earth quake part and the mars are was a huge favorite. Great option for littles to be inside for a bit. The Dino at the entrance was the best!

They are not open on Tuesdays. Several exhibits were closed or inoperable. Cafeteria was inoperable and no food or drinks allowed in museum. I don’t recommend for small children.

The KiMo Theatre, located at 423 Central Ave. NW, is a stunning example of Pueblo Art Deco architecture and a prominent performance space in Albuquerque. Designed by Oreste Bachechi and opened in 1927, it combines elements of Pueblo Revival and Art Deco styles. The opulent movie palace hosts a variety of events including Old Hollywood films, operas, live performances, and more.
We’ve been twice in the past six months, both times to see Black Jacket Symphony. The historic Kimo is just a great venue with no bad seats. We were able to park in the garage directly behind the Kimo as well as easily walk to several bars and restaurants.

The history alone is worth a visit. The choice music and arts that come through have never failed to be appreciated. The War and Treaty, Marcus King, Robert Cray. Albuquerque draws the best of the best to this historical treasure. Keep it up Kimo! Forever a moment in history.

Wow. I visited again after a couple of decades and it has been restored beautifully. This is my favorite historic building in Albuquerque and was so even when the interior was rough and unfinished looking. The sound is incredible. The Art Deco decor is unique and such a treat to see.

Beautiful historic theater, absolutely loved the atmosphere and carvings. Seats were comfortable and you have a great view no matter where you sit. The sound was perfect for the show. Clean bathrooms friendly staff, parking was right behind the theater in a safe well light parking garage. Will definitely see another show here!

I have never seen a theater quite like the Kimo. I loved the Southwestern and Native style. It is a very intimate setting for a show. No bad seats. It is truly one of a kind.

FIX THE AC BEFORE OFFERING A SHOW THAT WILL BE SOLD OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER! Are you serious??? We could barely breathe! No airflow, fans, ac, nothing. We went last night to see the beautiful The Buena Vista Social Club. We were so excited as not many bands or singers even come to Albuquerque in the first place. I don’t think we have ever had such a hard time trying to enjoy something since it was unbearably hot, it was probably about 90 degrees inside, in a sold out show. The singers kept taking breaks and wiping themselves with little towels. The air conditioning situation was extremely disappointing and we were completely dissatisfied, just as everyone else around us. I felt lightheaded more than once (I’m in early stage of pregnancy so this was difficult for me) Everyone was trying to push through as the band was rather amazing, but so many people left because it was so hot. A lady that was in her late 80s needed to leave, as she could barely breathe. My dad, who is in his 60s, couldn’t stop sweating and he was just sitting, trying to enjoy the music. By the time the band was done, our row was almost empty. We never felt any kind of air conditioning. The couple next to me came all the way from Santa Fe and they were debating if staying was worth it BEFORE the concert started since it was already so hot. Some problem solving skills would've been appreciated. I think nobody cared if they put at least a fan, even if it was just plugged to the wall. Anything would’ve been better than no air, during summertime, with hundreds of people in one location with no airflow. Unless it is during winter time, I honestly wouldn’t come back, and neither would my family and friends. I don’t think anyone around us would go back either. So sad as this theater is truly beautiful.
Raquel M — Google review
We went and saw a concert here. The sound was great. And the seats in the balcony were great in terms of view. This is a lovely old building and it's fun to go early and look at the decor and old photos etc. One thing to note is that this is an older building. The leg room between seats was limited. If this is an issue get one in the front of the set of rows. As a larger women at 5'4" it was a little tight for me. Not so much that I didn't enjoy the concert though.

The Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is a 270-acre nature reserve with a variety of trails, bird-watching opportunities, native plants, exhibits about the river and wildlife, and a store. It is located in the city of Candelaria on the west end of the Rio Grande River corridor.
Friendly, helpful staff. The indoor viewing area was a pleasant surprise. It provided a comfortable climate controlled spectacular view of the wildlife. There are also multiple outdoor viewing areas and lovely walking and biking paths. Just bring cash for entry and be prepared to spend more time than you think.

Really nice little park. All trails are flat, so you'll see all ages here. Lots of shade as well on the more interior trails. Very nice visitors center. Good place for a 1-2 hr walk.

We were there in early November. Trees were gorgeous You pay a $5 fee to park but the Visitor Center is free. The building is made of several feet of concrete so it is cool inside. There is a small gift shop with stickers, books, toy animals etc. There was a very informative decent. We didn't have time to walk the trails but the whole scene is natural beauty. Lots of birds around and the cranes were just starting to arrive

Had a 4th grade field trip for my daughter here. Super friendly staff, folks from Game and Fish were also there to teach the kids. They each got to release a silvery minnow into the Rio Grande River, so they thought it was awesome. The building and restrooms are nice, spacious, and clean. Good place for a hike along the Bosque, very peaceful and pretty.

Absolutely love this area for walking, it's a shame that the park rangers have absolutely no idea what they're doing though and keep destroying the beavers dams!!! Put the rangers back in school and actually educate them on what a beavers dam does for the environment!!! Especially here in the desert!!! Get a grip and actually care about your community!!!!

Discover the enigmatic allure of Spaceship Ufo House, a unique architectural wonder located in the historic Nob Hill neighborhood of Albuquerque. Designed by architect Bart Prince, this private residence captivates passersby with its otherworldly appearance. While it's not open to the public, visitors can admire its unconventional design from the sidewalk and capture its magic through photographs. The house stands out as an intriguing sight, offering a quick yet memorable stop for those exploring the area.
This house was a HUGE delight to see. We couldn't go in but we admired it from the two streets. I've watched the TV shows about unique houses, but seeing it first hand was beyond comparison. Kudos to the creators, who had the wherewithal to think and act outside the box. I live in a flood plain and could use something cool and elevated like this. Another picture posted here is of the one next door to the UFO house. So cool! PS: The final 4 pics are of a little free Art Gallery right on the alley. This really brightened my day!!!!!

Remarkably large for a residence. The design is rustic futurism. The neighbors would have no problem agreeing that it outshines all the neighboring houses.
Yunong S — Google review
This otherworldly house is obscured by trees, which make it look mysterious. But the visible portions are worth a look. Its front deck has a tile-encrusted facade, and there are metal statues that guard the property, adding to its whimsical vibe. The house is not open to the public, but it is a quick stop, ideal for photos. The cosmic aesthetic makes it a testament to Albuquerque’s creative spirit. The little free art gallery nearby has art supplies. It could be a hub for visitors to express themselves, tying into the house’s imaginative vibe.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque is a unique educational destination that showcases the fascinating evolution of nuclear science. As an esteemed Smithsonian Affiliate and the sole congressionally chartered museum dedicated to this field, it boasts a remarkable collection of artifacts, including outdoor exhibits related to space exploration.
Super cool museum, the artifacts and breath and depth of the research and information that went into the displays is top notch. I spent an easy 3 hours reading and looking at all the history. Definitely recommend if you need to kill a few hours before your flight!

This isn't just a dry science museum; it's a deep dive into the story of the Atomic Age, from early research and the Manhattan Project to the peaceful uses of nuclear technology today. We were especially captivated by the exhibits on nuclear medicine and the role of the atom in pop culture. A highlight was definitely the nine-acre outdoor "Heritage Park" with its impressive collection of military aircraft, rockets, and even the sail of a nuclear submarine. You could spend hours just exploring that area alone! Whether you're a history buff, a science enthusiast, or just curious, this museum is a must-see. It's truly a unique and memorable experience.
Derek A — Google review
We truly enjoyed our visit to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. The exhibits are thoughtfully laid out, with powerful storytelling that weaves together scientific, historical, and social perspectives. I especially appreciated learning about the intense uranium prospecting and mining in the Southwest- something I knew little about before. The Manhattan Project exhibits are engaging, and I particularly loved the story on ‘Oppie and Groves’. The outdoor displays of planes and bombers are impressive, and the gift shop has unique finds. I would have gladly given this place five stars, but I felt there could have been a bit more representation of the many women who contributed to the field. I did notice the acknowledgment of Marie Curie, but perhaps because I spent just over an hour, I may have missed mentions of brilliant figures such as Leona Woods Libby or a nod to Lise Meitner. Including more of their stories would only make the narrative richer, and more complete. I wish I had an entire day to explore every corner of this museum - there is so much to take in, and it’s absolutely worth a visit.

The nuclear history Museum explains the discovery of nuclear energy in New Mexico by a group of brilliant scientists led by Robert Oppenheimer who was intrigued by life in New Mexico. It is also a museum about how the United States implemented the use of nuclear power to project foreign policy across the globe. This is educational historical and explains for even the non scientists how nuclear power comes about. I was impressed with the educational displays and presentations in addition to the numerous aircraft, the 29 bomber, various missiles and replications of the Trinity site. For US history fan like myself and those who appreciate the the rise of US power, ingenuity, creativity and the role New Mexico plays as a land where the US tested nuclear power.

The Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque is a fascinating place to visit! The exhibits do a great job of covering important history in an engaging and educational way. I really appreciated that there’s also a small kids’ area where younger visitors can play and interact with hands-on exhibits—it makes the museum enjoyable for the whole family. The museum itself is very spacious, with plenty to explore, and the outdoor display of planes is truly impressive to see up close. A wonderful mix of history, science, and fun for all ages!

Neat museum. Lots of interesting details. I appreciate their website being accurate regarding open status with the current government shutdown 💻. 🧬 💣 🥼 🚀 🌎 🔭⚗️🔬🧫 ✈️ 🛩️ 👨🏾‍🔬 The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, established in 1969, offers a compelling journey through the story of the Atomic Age—from the earliest research in nuclear development to today’s peaceful applications of nuclear technology. Visitors are invited to explore how nuclear science continues to shape our world. Through a dynamic mix of permanent and rotating exhibits, the museum showcases the diverse uses of nuclear science across history, industry, medicine, and energy. It also honors the pioneers whose work has defined the field, presenting their stories in engaging and accessible ways. As a Smithsonian Affiliate and an institution accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the museum upholds the highest standards of excellence in education, preservation, and public engagement. BRIEF HISTORY The creation of the Museum in 1969 was the result of a six-year effort to establish a museum to tell the story of the base and the development of nuclear weapons. The Museum was located on Kirtland Air Force Base. In 1973, the museum's name was changed to the National Atomic Museum to reflect the growing national and international audience and the fact that it was the only public museum that preserved the nuclear industry's history. The Museum closed its doors at the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico on September 11, 2001, due to heightened security measures. The National Atomic Museum was in its rented Old Town location from May 11, 2002, to February 7, 2009; the Museum re-opened in its current location in southeast Albuquerque in April 2009, renamed The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. MISSION The Museum’s mission is “to serve as America’s resource for nuclear history and science. The Museum presents exhibits and quality educational programs that convey the diversity of individuals and events that shape the historical and technical context of the nuclear age.” We recommend purchasing admissions within the same week they are to be used, but you will not be turned away if your visit takes place after the one-week timeframe. Important Notice Regarding Government Shutdown: We Are Open. Please note that this will not affect operations at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. The museum will remain open to the public and continue to operate under its regular schedule of 8 am to 5 pm. GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN WILL NOT IMPACT OPERATIONS AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NUCLEAR SCIENCE & HISTORY Albuquerque, NM — The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History remains fully open and operational during the federal government shutdown. As a privately regulated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, governed by a Board of Trustees, the museum is therefore unaffected by federal closures. Founded in 1969, the museum offers a compelling journey through the Atomic Age—from early nuclear research to today’s peaceful applications. Through permanent and rotating exhibits, it explores the impact of nuclear science on history, industry, medicine, and energy, while honoring the pioneers who have shaped the field. The museum is proud to be a Smithsonian Affiliate and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, reflecting its commitment to excellence in education, preservation, and public engagement. Importantly, the museum is also congressionally chartered, a designation granted by the U.S. Congress to recognize institutions of national significance and public service. While this charter affirms the museum’s vital role in preserving and interpreting nuclear history, it does not imply federal ownership or funding of the museum. The museum operates independently, ensuring uninterrupted access to its exhibits and programs. We welcome all visitors to experience the museum’s offerings as usual.

Comprehensive history and current status of nuclear energy. I was impressed by the availability of kid's interactive displays. We learned some things we never knew. The Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque offers in-depth guided tours of a natural turquoise collection, featuring hands-on exhibits and a gift shop. From raw turquoise rocks to elegant jewelry, visitors can explore the full spectrum of uses for this stunning gemstone. The museum showcases the cultural significance of turquoise to the region and beyond, with interactive exhibits and guided tours providing an immersive experience.
I’m a huge crystal, rock, and mineral nerd since I was a kid, and I found the museum delightful. The mansion it’s housed in alone is a sight worth seeing, and it’s enchanting. The turquoise collection went above and beyond my expectations. It had everything—from art to fashion, from ancient to contemporary, from artifacts to raw and polished specimens. There was even a collection of imitation turquoise. You learn how it’s gathered and mined and treated. There was so much in the museum that was impressive, breathtaking, really artful, or just worth seeing, like the George Washington Stone. They had specimens with history from many mines, so I even left with an idea of what my favorite locales and quality of turquoise are. There’s history and art with turquoise all around the world. There’s so much cool art in this museum. It was well worth admission price. I learned a lot. I also like how it was organized. You watch a short orientation video in the beginning that shows you where to go, then you’re on your own to wander. They have QR codes, but I prefer reading plaques, which they had plenty of. I thoroughly enjoyed all the different rooms and exhibits. Then there’s the gift shop, which also exceeded expectations. They have expensive, impressive high quality specimens and jewelry. They also have affordable pieces, antique jewelry, and even imitation pieces. The man working in the gift shop, Mario, was really knowledgeable and friendly. The stuff they had was so good, so I was very indecisive! But I ended up with two beautiful raw specimens and an antique ring. The owners and staff were all very welcoming and I think they’ve made this private museum a really lovely, informative, interactive museum. If you love art, history, minerals, jewelry, fashion, or architecture, this museum has something to impress you. A really fun experience. I’d definitely come again, both to spoil myself in the gift shop and soak up more of the museum and learn more. There was plenty to see and learn.

I don’t understand some of these one star reviews or some of the other complaints. I bought my timed ticket easily and arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled time slot. You receive an email that gives you all the details you need. My guess is that people don’t read it. Using google maps to find the museum was easy in my opinion. There is a decent sized sign that says Turquoise Museum parking so I’m not sure why people have trouble finding the place. This is a private museum and they can make all the rules they want. It’s basically a private collection. If you don’t like the rules, don’t go. Anyway, I loved walking around the rooms. There’s a lot of information on turquoise itself and many displays of jewelry made of turquoise. I roamed around for over an hour. I forgot the names of the owner and proprietor but they were extremely helpful when I had wanted to get a necklace evaluated for their $35 feet (there are other options). They were honest and didn’t charge me as my necklace wasn’t worth evaluating. I stayed for quite a while talking to staff. It was worth visiting in my opinion.
Laura W — Google review
The turquoise collection is beautiful, but the descriptions and explanations throughout the museum are poorly done. Just big blocks of text that didn't say much of anything, and a lot of information repeated. They should've hired someone who knows what they're doing to curate the "exhibits". If you actually want to learn something, Google it. If you just want to look at a beautiful collection, go here. The price is too much for what you get.
Rachael S — Google review
One of a kind experience a museum devoted to a gemstone. Extensive collection of various types of turquoise and how they are used around the world, how turquoise is mined, the colors how it came to be one of the most precious and desired gemstones in the world. The family makes it clear they are not a government-sponsored museum this is a private collection for turquoise. You could spend hours going through each and every room I believe it's 8 hours I only spent 2 hours and still felt like I learned a lot, now my appreciation for turquoise and those who collect this beautiful gemstone. I feel like turquoise and New Mexico go hand in hand.
Phil P — Google review
Absolutely had a great time here!!! Not a place you can go once and see/ know even a quarter of the history behind turquoise, mining, artifical, etc. I definitely plan to come back and do a bit more!!! They are very QR code based so try to ensure your phone is charged and your camera can read codes lol. I didn't mind that aspect as it did leave a lot of room for more jewelry and displays. So much to learn there and worth the trip. Yes you do pay online for a ticket and need to arrive at least 10 minutes before your time, but you can stay as long as you want till closing so honestly it's worth it to me.
Chelsey G — Google review
Neat place to visit with lots of cool pieces of turquoise. From the chandeliers to all the little selfie spots, very neat place to see.
Kari C — Google review
If you like turquoise or jewelry this museum is probably a five-star for you. They have a fairly unfriendly online requirement ticket policy and only unlock the doors for a few minutes to let people inside. They say everyone must watch the 10-minute video and it is only shown every 30 minutes. They can only sell as many tickets as seats in the room with the TV for the video. If you are not there when the video starts you miss your spot and are out your money. Overall: huge collection and too much to learn. A poor method of dealing with potential customers. If you think you will leave with the knowledge of how to identify natural turquoise, you will not.
Byron J — Google review
Worth it! The whole reason I went to the turquoise museum was to see the inside of that mansion! I didn’t really know anything about turquoise. I was surprised when the tour was top notch. The guide was a miner, super knowledgeable. It was a treat. I thought I would be board, I was not! Guide was excellent and fun. The history was awesome. House was cool too. A must do. Wait till you get upstairs, wow! I did drool on the jewelry case. Nice!

We are roaming around Albuquerque and we were up on Sandia Peak and we needed some wine. We thought we could try the Casa Rondena Winery. They have a beautiful facility. Almost like a Tuscan Manor. They have seating all over and it is ready to pick. Of course it was quite windy today like normal but it just felt nice. We are trying multiple wines and Sangria. The wines were okay and what we expected. Trying the Port and Sangria. The port is rich with good legs. I make it and this is a good port.

Beautiful atmosphere. Very Italian vibes with pond and architecture. Wine is decent but not standout. Complex and a good variety. You can only access the restaurant as a member so dont expect to get food if you go to the tasting room. More of an event location for weddings etc. Staff was great and knowledgeable. I'd go back if you could get dinner but I think there are better places in town to get a local vintage and then have some food options and not pay 1200 to access a restaurant. I get the business model but it isn't worth it for middle or upper middle in my opinion.

The staff in the tasting room were so nice! Sitting by the pond was our favorite. We met some great new friends that are members and took a tour of the property. Beautiful place! I’m assuming he’s the owner, walked up to us and told us we didn’t belong in there. Pretty rude. Our new friends told him they were members, and they were showing us around. He huffed and walked away while saying make it quick. I was going to join, but after that encounter we’ll enjoy the public access instead.

The University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque is a renowned public research university with a diverse campus showcasing architectural styles ranging from Pueblo Revival to Brutalist. The Zimmerman Library, designed by John Gaw Meem, reflects the iconic Pueblo Revival style with elements like vigas and adobe-like stucco. Despite the dry climate, the campus boasts impressive greenery and is home to various museums covering anthropology, geology, art, and biology.
I needed a break from the hospital one evening.. so I decided to take a walk on campus ad found this gem. Duck Pond, but really the whole campus is beautifully landscaped. You're in an oasis far from reality at times here. Perfect medicine

Apparently Everyone's Not A LOBO. I am an UNM Alumni. I went to visit the area a while ago. Was walking through the SUB and went to use the restroom. From there Security had tried to grab me. They had no reason to try to unlawfully detain me. It was an embarrassing moment for myself and the people I was with. They targeted me and later when I asked what their reason was they claimed it was "None of my business". I wrote a letter to the Dean in detail about the absurdness of the incident. How low the University has become to their graduates. I hope I'm just the example.

This is a nice large clean campus. The only bad thing is probably the bicycle theft. Even if you use ulock, there's high chance that it might get stolen. Duck pond is one the best places to chill. Architecture building library has the best view of Sandia mountains from campus. If you love to watch full moon, Johnson field is a good place!
Khandoker I — Google review
I decided not to attend this place for two reasons. I received an acceptance letter riddled with grammatical and style errors, and no one responded when I sent several emails pointing out that this makes a terrible impression on new students who are on a higher level, in terms of expertise in the English language, than UNM apparently is. The other reason is that I paid my application money and was accepted last year, and when I went to schedule classes, I was told my acceptance somehow had expired, and I would need to pay the application fee again. Not doing that. So they turned down tens of thousands of dollars in income from me as a student over $25. If that doesn't say everything that needs to be said about the collective intelligence of this institution, nothing possibly could.

This has been the worst education experience I have ever had. not only are the majority of instructors absolutely useless, no communication, no updating syllabus's, and constantly shifting and changing the schedule so its impossible to know when anything is due, but the students and faculty are absolutley no help and will do anything to find an excuse that essentially says "its your problem". the problem I needed help with was something I couldn't do on my own because it needed permission from them. When I went to go get the problem fixed, I was tugged around all campus to find help to tell me the only people that can help closed their offices at 11. Not for lunch. That was when the office closed their walk-in hours. And that doesn't work for me, and when I tried to fix the problem that day, becuase I was unaware until the final day to fix it, and I have other things like a job and family resposibilities that makes that an impossibility for me. And now you have essentially kicked me out unless I find help, but why the hell would I do that when your "help" has been nothing but blaming the victim and refusing to help in any way.

The Fall Festival is always lots of fun. For city folks it's a chance to relax outside, eat prune pie and Indian oven bread, and shop for natural products. Nice emphasis on the history of the Camino Real this year.

We truly love this County open space. It is a true Community asset. They used to allow weddings prior to 2017. I feel so lucky that that will forever be a memory for my husband and I. It's fun to bring our growing family here and hope to enjoy it for years to come.

A beautiful historic place along the historic Camino Real. The museum has changing exhibits so it’s always nice returning to something new. Since it’s also a public open space, you can go almost any time and sit under the cottonwood trees or take a walk along the acequia.

Bataan Memorial Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico is a significant city landmark honoring the state's veterans who served in defense of the Bataan Peninsula during World War II. The park features a .33 mile trail with 700 steps and offers picnic tables, large shade trees, and good visibility throughout. Although there are no playgrounds, it provides plenty of shaded spots and lush grass for picnics or casual activities.
This is a large park with a wide open area and features picnic tables and large tree canopies. I have seen various sport games played here and I have seen people fly their drones here. It is ideal for both. There is a memorial to veterans that is worth seeing and it's right next to Walgreens where you can get snacks!

Great park right off of lomas! While there are no playgrounds, it still offers lots of shade trees and lush grass. I will say one thing, that Albuquerque does have an amazing parks and recreation department and they've always done a great job staying on top of park maintenance like trash cleanup and maintaining the grounds. This particular park is mostly flat with plenty of benches and shaded spots on hot days. Perfect for having a nice picnic, a get together or just kicking around soccer ball. The memorial is nice as well. I highly recommend this park!

The De Anza Was a first class Motor lodge back in it's day when C.G. We loved it here. Spent about 3-4 hours here and still felt like we could have done more. The only reason we left was to eat. There is a small cafe like area in there. Plenty of things to explore and it wasn't expensive compared to many other museums we've visited. We will make this a frequent place to visit whenever we come to Albuquerque.

Hands down, the most interactive museum in the area. Mike's warm welcome from the moment we walked in the door was a great touch. He explained things so we wouldn't miss a thing. Thanks, Mike. We were beyond impressed with all the information we could learn. We love being adult kids, and this museum allowed us to play. I would come back when in the area. Cute and colorful museum. Interesting hot air balloon history. Small interactive kids section. Our 6 and 8 year old boys were happy and entertained. We came 90 minutes before closing on a Saturday(holiday weekend) and it was nearly empty. We spent an hour there. Ample parking. Worth a visit.

Fantastic museum located near the Balloon Festival field. The museum is light and airy, with exhibits that are both hands on and informational. Although the primary focus is on the history of balloons and those who fly them, I particularly enjoyed the weather exhibit. We were also fortunate to go during the Balloon Festival and participate in the Virtual Reality Balloon Ride. It was so much fun and easily made our visit worth the small entry fee. There is a large parking lot available next to the museum.

We had a memorable visit in the museum. Some spaces are very kids friendly as my toddler had the opportunity to play and write/draw in a board. Besides, the museum is very well documented, with tons of resources. We love the fact that there was real size models to apprehend the concept of air balloons. Plus, the scenery is well thought and well designed. Definitely a must do in Albuquerque.

This was a different kind of museum. Fun place overall. Answered many questions that have come up throughout my life. The kids area is super fun. There’s even a few things adults will enjoy. It’s only a few dollars and very worth every dollar. Others have uploaded great pictures so I won’t bore you with mine. But stop in and take your own!

On Sundays, the museum was free before 1:00pm. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful docent who pointed out the areas of the museum to make sure to explore and spend time in. We learned how the military used balloons to get a view of the land many many years before drones. There was one activity where it would take your face and make it into a balloon. For some reason it kept making me with a mustache. It gave us a good laugh. We had a lot of fun exploring and learning about Hot Air Balloons.

The Owl Cafe, located at 800 Eubank Blvd in Albuquerque, is a unique dining spot with an owl-shaped building that adds to its charm. The cafe offers a diverse menu featuring breakfast items, burgers, malts, fries, spicy dishes, pancakes and homemade desserts. Visitors can also enjoy the ambiance of the 50s with classic tunes playing on a jukebox. This establishment has historical significance as it was once frequented by scientists from the Manhattan Project who were stationed nearby.
I went for dinner with my family and the food is delicious! The fried mushrooms as an appetizer were tasty. The green chile burger, was a perfect size. All the food was very fresh! The service was nice and quick, didn’t have to wait super long for the food to come to the table. Highly recommend getting a milkshake, they are so worth it!!

Driving through heading to Colorado, we were looking for lunch spots that would allow our dog on the patio, and that would please the kids. It's super hot out, 110 degrees. We ate on the patio, and while it was hot, it didn't feel that hot. The fans were on low, and we were the only crazy people needing outside seating, but i wish they had been on faster due to the heat. The food was good, burger was fresh. We got kids meals and shakes at the end. The inside was super cute, and our waitress was great. I'd eat here again. They had something for everyone, I think!

The food is really good but what makes this place exceptional is the amazing staff and ambiance. Walking in is what I imagine a Time Machine feels like with juke boxes and neon lights, and the absolute best shakes I’ve ever had are a nice touch too. Not to mention, super inexpensive. I recommend this place to anybody local or driving through. Did I mention the building is shaped like an owl?

My husband and I were visiting from Texas and stumbled upon this gem of a cafe. We actually went twice during our trip because we enjoyed our first time so much. The staff was incredibly friendly and made our experience memorable. My husband's omelette was one of the best he's ever had, and the cinnamon rolls are truly out of this world! It was also really cool to be at a filming location from the Breaking Bad movie, El Camino. If you're ever in Albuquerque, you should definitely check it out!

We were waited on by Megan C and she was AWESOME!! We were immediately drawn in by her personality. Further, she anticipated our needs before we even had a chance to acknowledge them ourselves. The New Mexico Steam Locomotive, located in Albuquerque, is a captivating museum and tourist attraction that offers a fascinating look into the region's railroad history. The collection features meticulously restored historic steam locomotives, including the renowned Sante Fe 2926, which was built in 1944. What a hidden treasure. Open on Wednesday and Saturday with free tours for the public. The men and women that work there are volunteers and the restoration projects are funded by donations. Worth a visit to appreciate history and make sure to donate to keep the projects and history alive.
AL2 — Google review
Not sure I would call this place an attraction but for those who like old stuff from the industrial era of America this may be interesting. This is essentially a working shop where people are busy restoring this old steam locomotive. Some were painting and some removing bolts. They added some information shacks and there are some free train magazines you can have. The locomotive was running a few years ago but some parts broke due to operational ignorance. There is no owner's manual for it. Work is volunteer and money is all donations. A while back some theives broke in and stole a bunch of steel that were actually parts to mount the cab. Set the project back 2 years to custom make new parts and the financing to due it. It was interesting to see the work in progress.

Boca Negra Canyon, located within the Petroglyph National Monument, is a rustic desert park offering visitors the chance to explore ancient rock art through low-key day hikes. The canyon features three different trails suitable for various hiking skill levels and covers a vast area of 70 acres, providing ample space for outdoor adventures. One of the trails, Boca Negra Canyon Trail, presents an easy.
My 2 year old twins loved the view from up on the canyon. It's such a neat place to visit it feels ancient :)
A L — Google review
The trail was ok, but I think I was expecting more. I enjoyed the canyon to the north significantly more. This is made up of 2 smaller loop trails. One basically climbs the side of the hill. The other is flatter that hugs the parking lot. Nothing wrong with either trail, I just think there are better trails in the park.
Andrew B — Google review
Moderate hike to the top. It is steep and rocky. The petroglyphs at the bottom are roped off but beware of vandalism. Good way to spend an hour or so...
Pamela B — Google review
We love this place! It is a slightly challenging climb, but the reward of viewing petroglyphs up close is worth it. It's a great little secret on the edge of Albuquerque.
Dawn M — Google review
Perfect place to visit and reflect on our ancient past. Lots of neat petroglyphs right next to the neighboring town of Albuquerque. It’s a shame that it’s so easily accessible as there is a lot of vandalism to the rocks. Glad it hasn’t been shut down but I do wish they’d take security here a bit more seriously. You do have to go through and gate that closes at 4:30 but there was sign at the hut saying that they aren’t charging fees at the moment so no one was there. We did see a City of Albuquerque employee washing out the restrooms and locking up behind us as we left though.. The main trail here is steep and very rocky. Don’t be fooled by the pavement. Take your hiking sticks if you use them and be safe going up and down. Also, watch for snakes as this is the perfect place for them.
J. S — Google review
This was a great hike! We really enjoyed seeing all the petroglyphs. Bring water and a hat. No shade.
Britney A — Google review
Mostly easy flat trails with bathrooms and water fountains nearby. Kids friendly trails. Boca Negra Canyon is a great option for visitors who are short on time. The canyon offers three self-guided trails with a total walking time of about an hour. The trails vary in difficulty, so there's something for everyone. Keep in mind that the trails are not stroller or wheelchair accessible, but there is an ADA view scope available for viewing petroglyphs.
Alexis T — Google review
Small parking lot in front of a lava flow that is decorated with petroglyphs. We took 2 trails there (the shortest trails ever lol) but we saw many petroglyphs! They were so cool… also so many people want to leave their mark- flood thing these ancient signs are now protected or we would not have found any left. So sad to see grafitty in these places. In all very interesting site and yes, many cool petroglyphs within a short minute walk from the car. Not wheelchair accessible- but I think you can see some from the parking lot. You do have to climb like a mountain goat… around the rocks and up little stairs… and you get to the coolest ones. What fun.

Old Town Plaza is a captivating historical gem that marks the birthplace of Albuquerque, established by Spanish Governor Cuervo y Valdes in 1706. This vibrant square was once part of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a vital route connecting Mexico City to New Mexico's early capitals. Today, it stands as a lively hub where history intertwines with contemporary life. Visitors can stroll along charming brick pathways lined with over 100 boutiques and galleries showcasing exquisite artwork, ceramics, and fine jewelry.
Such a lovely experience! $10 to park in the lot at the end of the street. If you’re from Canada, I recommend getting a window shade! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. We stopped and had a tattoo, we looked in shops. Bought lots of hand made souvenirs. Roosevelt Park, located at 500 Spruce St. SE on the edge of Nob Hill, is a historic 14-acre green space that opened during the Great Depression. It was originally named 'Terrace Park' but was later renamed to honor President Franklin Roosevelt, who provided funding for its construction. The park features a playground and a disc golf course, as well as over 2,000 plants including 80-year-old elm trees and various shrubs.
This park is very unique in that it is a place to play Frisbee golf. You will see all around the park stations and nets for playing Frisbee golf. Another feature of this park is that it's very hilly, so it's a good place for a hike. Lots of beautiful tall trees and lots of space for a party. There is also a jungle gym and some of the walking trails are the most scenic in Albuquerque.

Really cool park with the hills, the shade and the grass. Reminded me of parks back east. Draws a real good crowd for Frisbee golf for one hell of a course. And I've seen a few guys that were top notch players too. One guy shot a hole in one while he told me how he won a huge purse at it.
Tony — Google review
This is an old park in the center of Albuquerque. Its trees are old and tall. The land is covered in hills and ripples that give it a more natural feel than newer totally flat parks. It has several good play structures and a frisbee golf course. During the day this is a safe place to be with a constant stream of visitors. I would not recommend visiting at night.
Joseph C — Google review
Ate lunch and enjoyed the freshly cut grass. Comfortable place, lots of space.
Joanna D — Google review
This course was a nightmare for a wisconsinite, the holes all cross eachother and they don't even have a regular layout for the 11 baskets. Whoever made this 18 with shared baskets is obviously the least helpful person. To make things worse the people have abused and broke all the hole indicators/maps except for a few. I went to play with my dad and it's terrible, glad back at home in Wisconsin we have courses that make sense. If you looking for good new mexico disc golf go to Lions Wilderness in Farmington, NM. It would have been fun if it was my home course but the udisc layouts suck.

A great place to exercise. Early morning walks are amazing. And there's also a areas for frisbee golf. Very off leash dog friendly. A few picnic tables. Lots of parking spaces.

Very nice park. People come around the day, walking dogs, or just walking by themselves taking in the fresh air and greenery.

Sandia Mountains, located in Albuquerque, offer a unique mountain vacation experience. The range features diverse activities such as hiking among cacti and sage in the foothills or exploring pine and fir-lined ridges at the mountain top. Additionally, it serves as a picturesque wedding venue with its stunning peaks overlooking the region. Visitors can access various trails of different difficulty levels for outdoor activities like bird watching, skiing, and snowshoeing. The area also provides wheelchair-accessible spots and restroom facilities.
This was a great place to go to. From the information that I gathered, you can either drive up or take the sky rail. Once you get to the top, it has breathtaking views of Albuquerque and the surrounding area. The climate is usually 10-20 degrees colder than at the bas3 of the mountain, and the type of plants is different at the top than at the bottom. The main plans that i saw up there were Douglas fir trees and populous, a type of aspen. I took the tram up the mountain, and it did not disappoint! The workers give a bit of the history of the tram and give facts about the surrounding areas. At the top, there are multiple trails and some beautiful views. I took the trail that goes to the old stone cabin, and it was a great experience. I went in June, and I still found snow! The cabin itself is an interesting part of the history of Sandia Mountain. Overall, this was one of my favorite trails in New Mexico, and I would love to go back.

I would say serenity if I had to rate these mountains, it can be so peaceful and they are beautiful in every type of weather. Sometimes I like to drive up the back road and just enjoy the view.

This is where i go if i need to get away & think. So peaceful. Relaxing. & beautiful up there. I love looking up at them everyday. And when the clouds r on them its such a beautiful sight. Best part is we can live down here with clear roads & go up there to play n the snow. My favorite place to go!

Definitely worth to see during visit in Albuquerque
Karol S — Google review
You'll find many different trails here, from novice to difficult. You can also take the tram all the way up or drive around the back of the mountain to the top. Perfect place for outdoors, family day, photography, meditating, bird watching, skiing, snowshoeing etc. Oh yeah, then there's the breathtaking views. You'll also find several spots on top of the mountain that are wheel chair accessible and porta jons are on site at different locations.

Great overview of Albuquerque. Mountain roads to the top are very curvy and could be hazardous during inclement weather. Roads are very well maintained. Paths to overlook are steep but worth the short walk up.

Drove up the backside of the mountain, to the top. Views were constantly changing as clouds came and went, absolutely wonderful views!!!

Tingley Beach is a serene urban retreat located in Albuquerque Biopark, offering peaceful trails, fishing ponds, and a picturesque setting along the Rio Grande Bosque. Families can enjoy fishing in the public ponds and kids can try their hand at catching fish. Additionally, visitors can rent paddle boats or take a ride on a miniature train that winds through the park. The area also features picnic spots and a cafe for outdoor relaxation.
We had the best time visiting all the friendly ducks at Tingley Beach! My grandkids enjoyed seeing them play in the water, and glide while landing so gracefully. Tingley Beach has come such a long way from decades ago when I would take my kids. Now taking my grandchildren it is so nicely kept and clean. I feel like it is such a fun and family friendly place to enjoy. Lots of people fishing also. We also felt safe…great place for pictures of all the great memories. 🌻 great parking!

We took our morning walk through and around Tingley Beach area. Walked over to the Rio Grande overlook and along the various ponds. Several people were fishing, however we didn't see anyone catch a fish. The adjacent walking/biking trail was very nice.

I love bringing the kids here to feed the ducks and play on the playground. You can go fishing, rent paddle boats, and just enjoy the day without spending much. Plenty of shady tables and benches make it easy to relax and soak up the nature. We always have such a great time!

Stopped here while traveling and needed a break from driving. Plenty of parking, cute little ponds with locals fishing. There was a designated bike trail and a designated walking trail. The views of the Rio Grande were easy to get to and I barely saw any litter! Unique little turquoise ponds are further down the trail with lots of turtles. Worth a stop to be near some water in the desert lands. The welcome center was full of flowers and a playground for the little ones.

It's so peaceful here. Duckies to look at, waterfalls in different spots to enjoy the sound or to soak in no need for a swim suit clothing is just fine. Different flowers and islands. Beautiful scenery in every direction. This place is Romantic, full of nature. You can grill or go fishing. Definitely child friendly. Perfect for any occasion just choose a spot. It's great for a walk!

A place to come and fish. Lots of ducks and geese to relax to. Lots of good spots to fish in. They have trout and catfish to catch. There is a snack bar and shaded benches for picnics, also there is a jungle gym and a station towards the forest that picks you up by train to the Biopark Botanical Garden and Zoo!

It was right at Christmas time and I went exploring Albuquerque and ended up here. By several ponds were gathered Native American families and they were all picnicking and fishing I was made to feel right at home. It was a bright and beautiful Sunday afternoon. Most of the natives here work for the government or in the uranium mines. What a great place to live when you can go to the park and fish all year round.

Old Town Albuquerque is a historic and cultural hub that reflects the city's Spanish founding and territorial era. The area features adobe homes, San Felipe de Neri Church, art galleries, shops, and restaurants around the central Plaza. Visitors can explore craft breweries, local wine tasting rooms, and contemporary galleries in Plaza Don Luis. Additionally, tourists can rent bikes near Old Town to explore the area or visit Petroglyph National Monument for hiking opportunities in Rinconada or Piedras Marcadas Canyons.
Our family visited back in June and had the best time! We were visiting from NC for a wedding and wanted something relaxing to do on our final day. So much to see, it's all so beautiful. We literally wanted to buy and eat everything. The workers at each store were super polite and greeted you with a smile. We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip back to NM. Thanks for having us!

Old Town is probably the place you have to see just once in your life — just to admire the old buildings and imagine how long they’ve been standing there and all the history that’s taken place around them. Overall, it feels more like a tourist shopping area where you can find all kinds of souvenirs. There’s also a Breaking Bad museum (I think I got the name of the show right), and the entrance fee is $5 per person. Parking in the area costs $5 for 4 hours, which is reasonable. I can’t say I was particularly impressed with the visit, but I’m still glad we came and saw it for ourselves. It might just be that it’s not tourist season right now — it was extremely hot, and some shops were closed. So I recommend checking online ahead of time to see when would be the best time to visit.

Old Town Albuquerque is such a charming and vibrant place to explore! The adobe-style buildings, colorful shops, and lively atmosphere make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time while still enjoying a fun, welcoming vibe. There are so many unique local stores offering handmade crafts, art, jewelry, rugs, and souvenirs—you can easily spend hours browsing. The courtyards are filled with bright decorations, fountains, and sculptures, which make for great photo spots. Street performers and the friendly shop owners add to the warm experience. Highlights for me were the authentic artisan pieces, the historic San Felipe de Neri Church, and just walking around enjoying the mix of culture, history, and art. It’s the perfect place for families, couples, or anyone who wants to soak up New Mexico’s spirit. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Albuquerque!

One of the rare occasions where I didn’t capture a ton of photos or videos but let me tell you this is one of my favorite and must visit places when I am in New Mexico. Old Town, NM is where history puts on its party hat. Cobblestone streets, adobe buildings, and shops that smell like sage and turquoise dust – it’s like stepping into a living painting. You’ll find street musicians serenading you one minute and art galleries pulling you in the next. It’s charming, a little quirky, and just the right amount of “touristy” without feeling fake. Bonus points for the spicy green chile everything.

Piedras Marcadas Canyon, part of Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque, offers a 3-mile trail open from sunrise to sunset. The area features over 400 petroglyphs and is conveniently located within the urban area. The trail takes about 30 minutes to complete and is level and sandy, but lacks shade and facilities. Despite the heat, it provides beautiful views with ample parking. The narrow trails are well-maintained and suitable for hiking with pets.
Great hike to take. Not very strenuous. All sand path. We enjoyed it! Take water & a hat! The petroglyphs were beautiful.
Irene E — Google review
I've been hiking/ walking here for decades. Sad to see all the fencing and restrictions now, but it's still a beautiful place to visit. There are still many petroglyphs to see from the trails. You can frequently see coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, and lizards etc. Take the shortest trail to see the highest concentration of petroglyphs. It's fairy easy, but parts are very sandy. I often like taking the walk that starts to the right, going up on top first. There are no petroglyphs up there, but anywhere youre near the black rock keep your eyes open, you might be surprised at what you find. There are still a few different ways to connect the trails to get a good moderate hike in. In all my years I have never had any issues leaving my car in the small parking lot. It's located right behind two businesses and by some homes. Biggest drawback is there are no restrooms at this site. At this time of year it's not too busy.
Lorraine M — Google review
Loved it. Trail is easy and you're not allowed to venture off of it for any reason. For the most part the petroglyphs are not pointed out for you so you have to look for them the whole time you're walking. I wish they would have kept the trail along the rocks the whole way. Recommend having at least 2 people so you can find more of the rock art.
Jim B — Google review
Recently visited & didn't know where to start. Went to the information center and the gentleman was very knowledgeable. Pointed us to the best trail we hoped for! Trail isn't bad if you don't mind the heat! Trail is beautiful and well maintained! Highly recommend!
John G — Google review
We went to the visitors center first. The Ranger was very helpful and suggested this trail to view the most petroglyphs. This is not like Newspaper Rock where all the Petroglyphs are on one rock, they are spread over many rocks in multiple locations on the trail. Wished we had taken our binoculars.
Cindy S — Google review
Stopped in during the govt shutdown so we went with no advice from the Visitors Center. I have minor knee problems and found it to be an easy walk. Sandy and mostly flat. Occasional small rocks embedded in the trail, just watch where you're going. Trails wind around and cross, so you can see plenty of petroglyphs in a relatively short walk--you don't need to make the full circuit. Cute ground squirrels popping up here and there! In the high '60s and sunny. We were happy to have hats & water. Nice access from a quiet suburban neighborhood. We parked in Las Marcadas Park II at 9099 Tia Christina Dr.
Lisa W — Google review
Pretty cool place to visit with lots of petroglyphs to see on the lower trail. Pretty easy walk too.
Carrie P — Google review
This starts off behind a housing development and a Walgreens so we were not sure at first if it was going to be worth it, but as you walk, it becomes more secluded. It was an easy walk on sand, and when you see your first petroglyph it is very exciting. Recommend visiting.

With over 20 flavors of fudge, assorted licorice from around the world, fresh dipped fruits, and custom cakes, it's a paradise for those with a sweet tooth. The shop also offers unique New Mexican and Southwestern flavors like chocolate green chile fudge and red chile rock candy.
If you’re a fan of the Breaking Bad series, it’s hard not to like this candy shop. In addition to making the blue meth featured in the television series, they have a lot of merchandise as well. They also make some delicious fudge as well as an assortment of other sweets. The store clerk could not have been more helpful and kind. Highly recommended and very professional.

The Dog House Drive In is a classic take-out spot that offers simple yet delicious burgers, chili cheese dogs, fries, and shakes. It's a must-visit for fans of the TV show Breaking Bad as it features a blinking neon sign seen in several episodes. The restaurant's nostalgic neon sign and building hold sentimental value for many, making it a popular spot even during slower days.
This place has it's own unique feel. To me it's reminiscent of a local mom and pop place called, "Hot Dog Junction" where I grew up. Dog House Drive In's menu is simple enough to not be complicated, but varied enough to be interesting. They can put together so many dishes without having to keep 100 items stocked. Plus, people are probably going there to get either a chili dog or fruit pie, amirite? Those are the only two I've tried, but they do them perfectly.
Chris ( — Google review
I am visiting Albuquerque from out of state and this was one of the stops shown in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul that I wanted to see in person. I was there during the day so I didn’t get to see the sign lit up, but that’s okay. I dined in, the lady was very friendly. I got a cheeseburger with onions. It had pickles, tomatoes and I think maybe mustard and mayo. Very good burger. Overall it was a cute place. Not a ton of seating inside but pretty intimate, good experience. Lots of options. Also it was clean. I sat at the counter so I didn’t have to wait for a table or anything.

My first time is the Dog House and I can tell you I will definitely be back. I ordered the foot-long and some french fries and my friends order Frito pies. The staff is extremely friendly. The food is absolutely good. The hotdog comes fried. They toast the buns the french fries are perfectly cooked by the time I walked back to work the fries were still crisp no soggy ones at al. The Frito pies have a small little kick in it, so delicious. They put a whole hamburger inside the Frito pie when you order it. I will definitely will be back. Good job Doghouse.

Came here because of BB and BCS, but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. Get the foot long chile cheese dog with onions, will not be disappointed. The corn dog and onion rings were also phenomenal. Good little dive. There’s limited seating, and the prices are a bit high, but good food nonetheless.
Nick S — Google review
Nothing fancy here just good old style hot dogs. THAT and this place was a regular on breaking bad. My son got a chili dog here and said they're just a bit better than Sonic... But he loves Sonic. If you're a hot dog nut, you'll like this place.
J C — Google review
I really wanted to love the food. Big BB fan and although my first impression of the place was off-putting I decided to roll the dice and give it a try anyway. The dog quality. Wasn't very impressive, the onions were huge and the chili was on the jalapeno spicy side and very runny. Not like a good chili or you could actually see the chunky ground beef. I didn't enjoy it. And I really do enjoy a good hot dog. Especially an NYC Sabrett, Vienna Beef franks from Chicago or other dogs like a Sahlen or a Boars Head natural casing hotdogs that are top notch. This however was severely lacking. Tasted very low quality. The burger quality. Not very good. Not awful. But not very good. They also slathered a bunch of mustard and mayonnaise on my burger when I clearly told them not to add that. At least they held the lettuce and tomato. The fries. I got cheese fries. The fries were definitely undercooked. The cheese sauce wasn't a very high quality. It had this super bright yellow to it, the cheap stuff cheese sauce as I've learned to call it. Not the good high quality stuff many chain places use. Value I got for my money? Average. It wasn't super expensive but it wasn't cheap either. Something I'd expect from a poorly run food truck down some deserted road in middle America. Again I was really hoping to like the place since I'm a huge BB fan. I know this place has been around for a long time and I heard People voted them one of the best dogs in America so I was really expecting more. What I don't want to do is give a review through rose colored glasses and be awestruck with fanaticism and blindly give a great undeserving rating to subpar food. Judging by most reviewers and actually sampling the quality of the food I would have to say that that's exactly what's happening for most reviewers. Or it's quite possible that locals really don't know what good food is. Even if the food was severely lacking before the show one would hope that the owners would have upped their game after the show to impress the critics. But maybe they figured that's the necessary. Perhaps not. Overall from a coast to coast well traveled seasoned eaters perspective I was severely disappointed. However your results may differ. Especially if your taste buds are wearing rose colored glasses imagining Walt & Jesse enjoying a chili dog right alongside you.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque is a must-visit destination for art and culture enthusiasts. The 11,000-sq.-ft. gallery showcases classic and modern Hispanic art, offering a rich visual experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Spanish heritage through exhibits on Dia de los Muertos traditions and world-class flamenco performances. The center also hosts cultural events and features works by gay Latino artists, making it a diverse and inclusive space for artistic expression.
I went specifically to visit the art museum. What a great art exhibit. All of it was fantastic, and the 360 degree fresco was especially amazing to experience. The unexpected showcase might just be the old cottonwood trees outside, of which many are hundreds of years old! You must stop to contemplate all they may have seen over the years!

We rented Salon Ortega and the courtyard for our wedding with roughly 200 guests in May. The venue was really beautiful and was the perfect balance of cozy and spacious. We could have comfortably added more people. The coordinator Anna Lee really helped us out and was easy to work with, and Samantha on security helped us find some items that guests left behind on our way out. Beautiful location for an extremely reasonable price. Thank you.

NHCC- What a hidden jewel , this facility has the serenity we all, at times crave, just pleasantly cool & quiet , the fountain trickling in the background as I sit in the courtyard On the Westside in the Pete Dominci building , there's a Gran Baille with over 300 person's, w/ a huge band. Next to me is the La Fonda Resturant , a lovely place for dinner or lunch, art is everywhere you look, from the very buildings themselves to museum behind me across the bricked plaza. The torron is amazing as well as the story it tells, with the al fresco painted mural. So rich with NM culture, this is a must do. Knowledgeable & friendly staff , I love coming here.

One of my favorite spots in ABQ to kill a few hours. Get some food. Have a beer. Play some arcade games. Chill and watch life go by. Shop for different touristy stuff. Great outdoor space. With lots of picnic tables. Shade. Fire pit for the cold months. Right off the highway. Typically not too crowded.

Nestled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is a treasure trove for anyone fascinated by human cultures and histories. This esteemed institution, part of the University of New Mexico, focuses on global heritage with a special emphasis on the rich traditions of the Southwest. Established in 1932 as Albuquerque's first public museum, it has become a vital hub for both education and tourism. Visitors can explore an impressive array of exhibits that delve into archaeology, cultural anthropology, and evolutionary anthropology.
Such a nice little museum! I loved checking it out while in town, so much cool information and exhibits

This is a fantastic museum. The special exhibit on Milton Snow’s Depression era photos was fantastic, educational and illuminating. The permanent exhibit is also outstanding. Smithsonian level quality. You go, UNM!
Allison B — Google review
First off, there is reserved parking for museum guests on the west side of the building (on a small drive off Redondo West Drive). Parking permits are available at the museum gift shop. The entrance to the museum is on the south side. While the exhibit is about anthropology in general, the focus on pre-Columbian Native American culture. The highlight is a simulated archaeological dig site. There are numerous artifacts including a very informative pottery display and a section on petroglyphs. There's also an excellent section on human evolution with skull casts and a life-sized model of Au. afarensis.

Definitely worth the trip! For one thing, it's free. For another, after exploring history and science museums in 9 or 10 states now this is my favorite, tied with the Natural History Museum also there in Albuquerque. Both of them have their own pros and cons but this one is a smaller and thus easier to get through and it's free. My least favorite part is rather particular to me. I don't like being told I can't take pictures and there's a place upstairs where you're asked not to without explanation. If there's something I can't do that I can do elsewhere I like to at least we told why. Did the bits are carefully and thoughtfully laid out with a clear history unfolding. You see how the ancient homes in the Southwest evolved, how pottery and ropes evolved. You see how camps were laid out. That one helped my imagination the most. It wasn't at all what I expected. You see a replica of an actual dig site! That was exciting too. There's also a huge exhibit of all sorts of baskets. I wish I'd had more time to study them. The ingenuity of basket weaving amazes me. To think all you're doing is taking some basic fibers and wrapping or folding them around each other and somehow creating a three-dimensional object. It's like origami on a whole other level. Origami done with what's left after the paper shredder. Incredible! But Lucy stole the show. Lucy has been my favorite hominid since I was young. She's a famous specimen of the Australopithecus afarensis species. I could write pages about that encounter alone and there was much more than her in that exhibit but for now I'll just say -- go. See it for yourself! It's free so you have nothing to lose and your chances of it being a great experience are very, very, high.

I was very intrigued when I first heard about this museum. The exhibits were really interesting and very informative. I thought the exhibit with the makeshift archeological set up very interesting as I've always had a soft spot for archeology. I also enjoyed the early man exhibit. While it was small, there really was alot to learn. I look forward to going back after their new exhibit is set up.
Inquisitive M — Google review
Great museum. The displays on local Pueblo culture was more interesting than that of generic human history even though this was intriguing as well. I was most fascinated seeing the rocks and arrowheads, almost exactly similar to ones my father had collected up north in Montana. There is a large amount of pottery; amazing to see the intricate designs and shapes; equal to or more impressive than pottery from other parts of the world at the same time (but somehow these get labeled as 'prehistoric'...all you can do is LOL at how dismissive academia can be of Indigenous culture at times). Overall a great way to spend an hour or so, located right on UNM campus, which is also good for a walking tour to see the unique architecture. There was no admission other than being asked politely to sign your name in their guest book. Students work and run most aspects of the museum, go and give them your support.

For a smaller free museum, this was a great experience. The staff was very friendly (especially the director of public events) and there was even some free refreshments and pictures. Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque is a top shopping destination, especially for those on the Westside. It offers a wide variety of retail stores, entertainment options, and dining choices. The mall is known for its trendy apparel, shoes, and accessories for teen girls and young women. Visitors can enjoy browsing through different clothing and shoe stores as well as a supermarket for daily groceries.
Gosh, I haven't been here since I was a child. Being in the food court and looking up at the ceiling brings back SO many memories of this place! It's a nice mall, everything you'd expect to find in a mall. Also, lots of restaurants and stores outside around the mall, so you can get all your shopping needs done without driving around town.

I work in this mall and this sharps container in the women bathroom has had multiple needles sticking out of it for over a week now. I get that there’s a piece of caution tape but how can this be sanitary? These bathrooms are always filthy and the mall doesn’t even provide seat liners for the toilet seats that have caca on them. Cottonwood still has plenty of maintenance workers, so please take better care of the bathrooms for us 😭

A Once Thriving Mall Now Showing Signs of Improvement I recently revisited this mall and am pleased to report that there have been noticeable improvements since my last visit. Previously, I expressed disappointment in the state of the establishment, but it appears that the management has taken steps to address some of the concerns raised. One notable improvement is the addition of a dedicated area for children to play. This is a welcome change, as family-friendly environments are increasingly valued by shoppers. Providing a space for kids to enjoy themselves enhances the overall shopping experience for families and makes the mall more inviting. While there are still areas that require attention, such as the need for more diverse store options and continued infrastructure upgrades, it's commendable that the mall has taken steps to address one of the key issues raised in previous reviews. Furthermore, efforts to fill vacant storefronts with new businesses would undoubtedly inject new energy into the mall and attract a broader range of visitors. Additionally, ongoing renovations to modernize the mall's infrastructure are essential for maintaining its appeal to shoppers. In conclusion, while there is still work to be done, it's encouraging to see that the mall is actively listening to feedback and making improvements. By continuing to prioritize the needs of its patrons and investing in its future, Cottonwood Mall has the potential to regain its status as a thriving retail destination. You can see this pictures they have legos for kids and other toys and I can tell parents are happy. Thank you cottonwood mall.

Cottonwood Mall has always been a really nice place to go to. But now.. it’s really lacking.. anything?! They’re struggling to keep stores. I wish that Cottonwood Mall could be like it used to be. The only good mall now is Coronado but it’s so crowded.

Went in to find shoes needed for the next morning. Delighted to find some at Famous Footwear. Explored the New Mexico Rocks store. Loved it! Stopped to get a bite at the food court. Surprisingly, the Japanese food didn't come with rice. Food was meh. Also tried the pizza place. Pizza slice had an interesting crust and tasted pretty good. A free soda refill was offered. Air conditioning at the mall was not working that day.

The Madonna Of The Trail, erected in 1926 and located at the base of Mount Taylor in Albuquerque, is a stunning tribute to the brave pioneers who journeyed through this region. It features a beautiful statue of a mother and her child, with Mount Taylor looming in the background. This memorial is a must-see for visitors to Albuquerque.
I am working on visiting all of the Maddonas of the Trail across the county. This is the furthest one west I have visited. Although, I have been close to all of them before I knew they were there. The small park is was nice and parking was easy to find. It was worth the stop.

It’s a nice statue and commemoration. Wouldn’t go out of your way but if you bump into it, give it a couple of minutes of your time.
TheDSsucks — Google review
There are twelve of these identical statues from coast-to-coast, one per state along the Old National Trails Highway, predecessor to Route 66. From the days before highways had numbers, the Daughters of the American Revolution placed these statues in every state from Maryland to California in the early 1920s to honor the role of women in the westward expansion of the United States. Surprisingly, a century later all twelve of them still around, although a couple, including this one in Albuquerque have been moved from their original locations. In most instances, including this one, the woman on the statue symbolically faces west.

The Madonna of the Trail in Albuquerque, New Mexico is one of twelve identical statues that were commissioned by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the 1920s. The statues are meant to commemorate the contributions of pioneer women who helped settle the American West. It's a simple tribute, but it is cool that it is one of many that highlight the role of women in our nation's history.

Historical landmark
Giant Red Arrow is a historical landmark with a fascinating backstory. Built in 1961 as part of the Indian Plaza shopping center, it features a logo of a smiling Paiute Indian holding a large spear-like red arrow. Over the years, it became an iconic symbol and was even considered for official landmark status to preserve its heritage. Many locals have grown up seeing this distinctive arrow every day and are intrigued by its history.
Cool site
Dana S — Google review
It's a big fat arrow lodged in a stone & concrete base at the corner of Carlisle NE & Indian School Road. That's about the size of it (other than about 30-35 feet tip to tail not counting the base). Going out of your way for it? Best on a twofer, maybe; such as: You need a lunch break and choose Whole Foods – which is in new digs across Carlisle now where KMart used to be, but was formerly on the same lot as the Arrow north of Circle K, until 2024. Or, if you're a big fan of '60s era Paul Bunyan/Muffler Man sorta things, the Giant Red Arrow may be a highlight for you all on its own. Since Whole Foods moved, the whole lot has been fenced off & 'patrolled' by 24-hr rent-a-cops lumpily lodged in a vehicle like fat bullfrogs, although you might get lucky on-lot access if some seasonal retail outfit utilizes the old Whole Foods space like Spirit Halloween did for awhile in 2024.

The giant red arrow is outside of a Whole Foods store. We visited Albuquerque during quarantine and took a drive to see unique things, and this was one of them.
Deb C — Google review
When I was a kid, my family and I would drive down Indian School on our way to First Presbyterian Church (before the freeway). My parents told me and my two sisters that a giant Indian stood on top of Sandia Crest and shot that arrow! My husband and I ended up moving back to the area over 30 years ago. I would love to help advocate for re-lighting it for the 21st century.
Susan P — Google review
I grew up down the street from the Arrow and saw it everyday. My mom tells me that the arrow has been there since 1961, when the shopping center behind it was built and named Indian Plaza. Google tells me that the arrow was not directly related to the naming of the shipping center; the son of the original developer says the red arrow was a logo used by his dad’s company, American Builders, and they used the red arrow logo on billboards all over town. They figured a real arrow, supersized, on a quiet corner of what was then the outskirts of the city would draw attention.
Chris B — Google review
The name of the shopping center is Indian Plaza, built in 1961. The owner/developer/builder had a logo featuring a smiling Paiute Indian holding a large spear-like red arrow stuck in the ground at his feet. Thus was the 1960s. His uncle had the idea of a sign shaped like the arrow, lettered at the feathers and outlined in neon, which it was for many years. Decades later (after the neon was gone), I "spearheaded" the idea of making it an official landmark so it wouldn't be torn down. The neighbors didn't object, so ta da, there it is...as long as the Grass Grows and the Wind Blows and Albuquerque still glows. Redone with LED it could be restored to the original, which I think would be really cool.

Approaching that time again! Went to 🎈fest in ‘23. Received free tickets from a former hospital I worked for out there. I was glad I went. One of the few good things about ABQ. That would explain its popularity with the locals, as well others. Many interesting and beautiful 🎈to see. Plenty of good photo opp’s…

Definitely worth checking out at least once! Just be sure to know there’s both a morning and night session—don’t show up midday expecting action. Parking’s manageable, but come early. Tons of vendors, so bring a chair or blanket, kick back, and soak in the hot air balloon magic! 🎈

Absolutely breathtaking!! What an incredible experience. This is said to be the largest balloon festival in the world. I highly recommend booking the morning show. In the evening the balloons don't actually ascend into the sky (they remain on the ground & just light up). You should plan on arriving early (4am-4:30), especially if you want to catch the drone show (very cool & worth seeing). There is coffee & breakfast food for sale on site. Bring a fold up chair or a blanket for the ground as there are no seats available.

I wasn't sure I wanted to go, but my friends already bought tickets so I did go. I had trouble finding the parking lot, but with the help of the Albuquerque police department I finally found it. Walking towards the park I was able to watch the drone show which was awesome. Getting there I had to find my friends which I did about a hour after I got there. But to be fair I was so spell bound on all the balloons and how you could go up and talk with them. Everyone was so excited and it was like being in an place where everyone treated each other with so much respect. Everything about this adventure was mind blowing and entertaining. You must go at least once.

We had a great time at the balloon festival. It POURED the first night. We were able to use our tickets the next day to get in since it was canceled. Fireworks, drone show, skydiving team, wood carving, balloon launch, special shape balloons, lots of fair food, and a merchant building with lots of amazing things to buy. Kid zone with activies balloon related to do. You can get in a balloon basket and see what the inside of the the balloon is like. Our kids are adults so we didn't fully see that tent of attractions, but it was very crowded and looked like a good time for the kids. Would highly recommend. Hoping to bring the grandkids from Ohio in the future. Make sure to have cash for parking.
Heather H — Google review
We enjoyed the Gondola area. It was absolutely phenomenal! The only drawback was the chaotic traffic going to the venue. No clear signs posted (ESPECIALLY if you are from out of town). Snail paced traffic flow which resulted in loooooooooooong wait to get to the Gondola parking area. At the Gondola Club, the food was cold, not enough food was available. But the gift bag was lovely and the seating was wonderful.

There is absolutely nothing here not to like. This place is great for fans of the Breaking Bad Universe! The selection of items was vast and varied. We found the prices to be reasonable. It was fun to be able to get some of our own "Blue Sky" rock candy. Even if you are not interested in purchasing merchandise (then why did you even visit), there is a museum with lots of props and information. The staff were friendly and happy to discuss the show, its stars, and events. If you have not watched Breaking Bad, you should go do that right now and then plan a trip to ABQ and be sure to visit this store!

Awesome experience all around, and the museum is honestly amazing. Friendly, lots of local artist work, perfect gift ideas for fans, and really quality stuff. We hope to come back from Colorado Springs for future visits because it's just such a fun experience.
