Beach
Four Mile Beach is a picturesque stretch of coastline in Port Douglas, known for its connection to the development of the Mirage resort by Christopher Skase in the 1980s. The beach offers a serene setting for families and friends, with easy access to modern amenities and attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks or bike rides along the expansive shoreline, finding private spots to relax or embarking on scenic hikes up Flagstaff Hill for stunning panoramic views.
Lovely beach to spend the afternoon. The beach it self is really long, as you can tell from the name, however there is only 1 netted swimming area with life guard. Parking is just across the road, which is slight inconvenient as the you do have to cross the burning asphalt to get to the beach. A few bars near by for a drink and a bite.
Lerong L — Google review
A beautiful beach! 😎 Not too busy, which made it really relaxing. There are also many little shops around in the charming town of Port Douglas! ❤️ A perfect spot for a laid-back day.
Neha P — Google review
An outstanding Aussie beach for a swim in warm waters and lengthy walk along the sandy shore. However, must pick the time of year to avoid stinger season. No problem during our August visit. Plenty of parking, while busy, should be able to find a spot.
Mark E — Google review
Such a beautiful place to spend time enjoying the sun and sea. There is plenty of shade and you are avail to high a lounge chair and umbrella for the day.
Rebecca S — Google review
I used to come up here every second week when I lived at Trinity Beach. Despite having a beach on my door step, this place was magical and worth the drive. I’d often walk along the beach with my eyes closed for several minutes at a time, navigating my the feel of the water on my feet. A great spot.
Evalyn V — Google review
Four Mile Beach has it all! As a popular advertising jingle about a luxury resort down the road once claimed, this place is "too good to be true"! :-) Soak up the sun, enjoy a book or just watch people making the most of this tranquil and very special location. Part of the beach is patrolled so you are in safe hands if you swim between the flags. You could easily spend quite a few hours here. There is a nearby lookout to take in the spectacular scenery from a higher vantage point. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Port Douglas! Here are some photos from our most recent visit.
Leanne W — Google review
One of the nicest beaches of the region were you’re allowed to swim! Water is warm even during “winter” and even though it can get crowded between the flags you have life savers and shades! You can also find nice naturally shaded spots if you walk a bit further.. you have 4miles! 🤩
Luis D — Google review
Lovely warm summer waters with a view of the majestic mountains. We visited in January. There is a water/swim area that is roped off to keep out the “stingers” as they’re known here in Australia. Back home we call them jellyfish but they may be related in some way. Also, there are lifeguards which is great for children and all of us. Beach chairs/umbrellas to rent. A lovely place.

Wildlife Habitat is an interactive zoo where visitors can have guided encounters with a variety of Australian wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, birds, and reptiles. The friendly staff offers regular talks and presentations throughout the day, featuring highlights such as reptile presentations and crocodile feeding. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the animals through activities like feeding and patting.
A well laid out tropical zoo. Lots of opportunities to get up close to the wildlife. Lots of different animals to check on, and you can buy packets of food to get the inmates excited. The staff have excellent knowledge and are happy to answer questions or to tell a tale or two. A great kiosk and gift shop. Plenty of parking. It wasn't very busy on our Sunday visit.
Greg S — Google review
Overall a very positive experience. We did the breakfast with the birds and it was very good, the food was decent enough quality and there was plenty of it. The facility itself is good, but could use a bit of a facelift, some parts looked a bit old. The birds are very beautiful and the aviaries are very nicely laid out. The highlight was hand feeding the kangaroos. You can freely feed and pet the kangaroos. This experience moved this review from a 3 to a 4. Definitely a highlight. Buy kangaroo food on the way in!! The negative, The keepers giving the talks about the animals were not Australian. This detracted from the experience. I would rather have Australian people teaching about Australian animals. Compare this to Hartleys where the staff are very Australian and it added to the experience.
Seth R — Google review
Great insights into local wildlife...including the amazing Cassowary! Cute Koalas, wide variety of birds. Unfortunately no crocodiles on view, but we may have missed our chance. Well set out and maintained. Helpful front desk and canteen staff. A worthwhile visit.
Susan D — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast with the birds experience! This is such a wonderful and unique experience. Getting to meet Elvis and Nico was an absolute highlight of the morning. We also got to meet the koalas and had an opportunity to take photos and learn about the animals in a relaxed environment. The breakfast was substantial with free flowing juice, tea, and coffee as well as a beautifully presented breakfast platter complete with crepes, eggs, bacon, toast, and more! We also enjoyed wandering around the rest of the park and thought there was excellent value in the talks and presentations throughout the morning.
Amber K — Google review
What a lovely afternoon. We decided to visit this afternoon. It is a small sanctuary, relaxed and the staff are lovely. We were lucky enough see the pelican talk which was perfect, fed kangaroos, saw lots and lots of different birds and got up and close with the cutest baby koala. A beautiful afternoon with my son ❤️
Megan S — Google review
Lovely sanctuary that helps animals rehabilitate in their own natural habitat. No cages, animals are free to fly and roam. Kid friendly with cafe and feed the kangaroos. Animals have people free spaces if they don't feel like interacting which is great. I don't support zoo's but definitely highly recommend this place that help wildlife in need. You really get up close and personal with the animals.
Melissa-rose M — Google review
Wildlife habitat is absolutely worth a visit. Plan to spend at least half a day. The talks are amazing and staff are knowledgeable. Good selection of food for lunch. There is a great opportunity to get really up close to the birds. Some of the birds are very cheeky and will want to get a pat. You can feed a kangaroo.
Sal A — Google review
A great family friendly wild life park to visit, alot smaller than Australia zoo but had great features like eating breakfast with the birds, the birds are so friendly. We did the swim with the salties, even though you are on the other side of the glass being that close to 500kg / 4.5 mtr long crocodile at feeding time was unreal. The power of those jaws. Recommended if in Port Douglas.

Flea & Street Markets
The Port Douglas Markets, established for almost 25 years, are a must-visit for both locals and tourists. Located at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, these markets offer an array of locally made goods including fresh produce like sugar cane juice and coconuts, as well as fashion, jewelry, art, music, and more. The waterfront setting overlooking luxury yachts adds to the charm of this market experience.
Nice to see a proper market with everything from fresh fruit to trinkets jewellery and clothes. Alsorts in between local arts and crafts
Dennis H — Google review
Loved these markets, lots of arty crafty stuff, some unusual and unexpected products as well as the touristy trinkets. Food vans also available on site but we went into town for lunch.
Christina N — Google review
A good sized market on flat ground right on the waterfront. Great fresh veggies as well as amazing artwork and creative ideas, many very unique and original of high quality. Easy nearby, on street parking.
Irene K — Google review
A Perfect Sunday in Port Douglas If you are in Port Douglas on a Sunday, the farmers market is the place to be. It has such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and it really captures the charm of the town. The location could not be better. The market is set right by the water, so while you wander through the stalls you get beautiful views of the ocean and palm trees swaying in the breeze. It feels tropical and laid back, exactly what you would hope for in Far North Queensland. The variety of stalls is fantastic. There are plenty of local farmers selling fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs straight from their gardens. The tropical fruit is incredible and so much fresher than what you usually find in shops. Alongside the produce there are stalls with handmade crafts, clothes, artwork, skincare and all sorts of unique gifts. It is the kind of market where you find something different every time you go. One of the highlights is the food. You can grab a fresh juice, taste local coffee, or enjoy a snack while listening to street performers. It is easy to spend a couple of hours just eating, shopping and soaking up the vibe. The people make it even better. Both stallholders and visitors are friendly and chatty, and you can tell there is a real sense of community. It does not feel touristy in a forced way, more like an authentic gathering of locals that welcomes visitors to join in. After the market it is only a short walk to the main street or down to Four Mile Beach, so you can easily turn it into a full day out. Overall the Port Douglas Sunday Market is a must if you are anywhere nearby. It combines the best of local food, art and atmosphere in a stunning waterfront setting. Spending a Sunday morning here is the perfect way to experience the spirit of Port Douglas.
Gunjan P — Google review
Excellent local market mainly for arts and crafts rather than produce.
Jamie H — Google review
A weekly treat for the locals and visitors alike. Lots of variety, much of it useful in daily life. Nice snacks, treats, drinks, clothes, hats, jewellery, etc … usual fare, but with a relaxing atmosphere. Most of the walking is under the shade of the huge trees in the park. Decent sized markets. And just behind the park, the beautiful tropical waters of the Coral Sea.
John S — Google review
Had a great day out at the markets in Port Douglas and we had lunch at Rattle and Hum in the main drag. Busy place we enjoyed the day and will be back again if we can get into the caravan park it's really booked out most of the year.
Abel F — Google review
Held every Sunday from 8am to 1.30pm. Set in Anzac Park at the top end of Macrossan St. Large with over 100 stalls selling fresh produce, handmade crafts and souvenirs etc. Also coffee and locally made ice cream available. A pleasant wander and browse.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
St. Mary's by the Sea is a charming non-denominational chapel located within Anzac Park in Port Douglas. The church, built in 1911, offers picturesque views of the Coral Sea and distant rainforest mountains through its enormous altar window, making it a popular venue for weddings. Approximately 200 weddings are hosted here annually, with many couples opting for open-air ceremonies amidst the tropical scenery.
We made a special stop at the picturesque Chapel by the Sea in Port Douglas after seeing it featured in the TV series Irreverent, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The setting is stunning — with the charming little chapel framed by palm trees and the ocean stretching out behind it, it really felt like we had stepped into a scene from the show. While it was a bit of a novelty visit, it ended up being a genuinely enjoyable and peaceful stop. The combination of location, scenery, and that familiar backdrop made it one of those unexpected highlights of the trip. Definitely worth a visit, especially for fans of the series or anyone looking for a beautiful photo opportunity.
Michael S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. Attended a wedding and it was quaint and cosy and beautiful. Grounds around are very well kept, view out the main window adds an extra personality. On a hot day it would cook, but there's a little speaker system, and the inside looked recently painted - very crispy and clean white which elevated it
Alex C — Google review
Gorgeous church & setting💙💚we always visit ❤️ when we visit Port Douglas ❤️today we met a bridal party getting married tomorrow 👌
Lauren G — Google review
A beautiful heritage listed historical church near the centre of town and beach. Originally built in 1880 and rebuilt after a cyclone in 1911. Relocated to this site in 1988 and restored soon after. Non denominational with community worship every Sunday at 11am.
Michael C — Google review
A very quaint Church used for weddings and other gatherings. The exterior is very idyllic with palms shading manicured lawns. The interior was cleaned for an upcoming wedding ceremony. While I took photos a couple came by and said they had their wedding right there 25 years earlier and nothing's changed.
Hunter C — Google review
Beautiful Quaint little church right on the beach in Port Douglas. Absolutely amazing view when you walk into the church and the front window opens in you can see the ocean the whole time while the wedding is happening. Amazing priest with a great sense of humor.
Lee C — Google review
Beautiful little church. Right by the beach and park. If you visit Port Douglas then take the time to visit this lovely little church

A quaint church which is great for weddings or gatherings. The church is beautifully lit at night, with palm trees and a pristine lawn all around. Close to the small sandy beach area and pier.

Flagstaff Hill Walking Trail in Port Douglas offers breathtaking panoramic views of Four Mile Beach, the surrounding coastline, and the majestic Daintree Rainforest. The trail starts at Four Mile Beach and leads to Anzac Park, providing a great way to orient yourself in the area. While it's only 1.5 kilometers one way, the steep steps offer a challenging start but reward you with stunning vistas of the Coral Sea from a cantilever viewing platform at the summit.
We walked this today and it was great. Good views and although warm and a bit steamy it was dry underfoot and easy to navigate. We wore thongs no problem no slipping or sliding as the path is good. We walked from the Rex Smeal park end towards the 4 Mile Beach and saw many people walking in the opposite direction. It was well worth the heating up 😁
Mary-anne — Google review
Great walk - starts at the end of the beach - there is a staircase that goes up to a nice viewpoint of 4 mile beach. You can then continue down an uneven path that will take you to the park at the other end of the trail. When starting from the beach end of the trail, you will come across another stairway that leaves the main pathway - this goes up to a lookout with a beautiful view of 4 mile beach. Worth the extra climb. Great walk in the morning. Be sure to wear suitable footwear like running shoes as the path is rocky and uneven. Not a difficult walk/hike - really enjoyed!
J. M — Google review
Excellent coastal trail, we started at 4pm so plenty of shade. Steep in places. Uneven ground and lots of steps keep the trail a perfect combination of natural trail and one that is safe to use. We walked one way and exited at the park. A good workout.
Kevan S — Google review
A neat walking trail winds gently along the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the sea. A drink fountain is located half way and spots to rest and take in the view.
Margo C — Google review
Wonderful walk from start to finish. Can start either end, from town or beach, do one way or return. Mix of surfaces, uneven in parts, generally steps up steep sections. Views superb. Anyone with general fitness will have no trouble.
Mark E — Google review
Very nice little peaceful walk. Plenty of places to have a sit down if you need to but it’s not really that strenuous. Nice views of 4 mile beach and the scenery that surrounds Port Douglas.
Mike W — Google review
The Flagstaff Hill Walking Track in Port Douglas offers a delightful and scenic walking experience, even for those wearing sandals like myself. This walk takes you on a journey from the beach and shop area, leading up to a magnificent park overlooking the ocean, adorned with an abundance of palm trees. Starting from the beach area and ascending along the track, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views along the way. The gradual incline makes the walk manageable for various fitness levels, and the path is well-maintained, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable stroll. As you continue along the track, the scenery becomes increasingly captivating. The lush greenery and tropical ambiance create a serene atmosphere, transporting you to a tranquil oasis. The sight of numerous palm trees swaying in the gentle ocean breeze adds an extra touch of magic to the experience. Reaching the expansive park at the top is a true highlight. Here, you can take a moment to relax, soak in the panoramic views, and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The park offers ample space to unwind, with plenty of seating areas and picnic spots to enjoy a leisurely break. From the park, you can venture further toward the ocean, immersing yourself in the coastal ambiance. The combination of palm trees and the ocean creates a picturesque scene that's truly awe-inspiring. It's important to note that wearing sandals didn't hinder the enjoyment of the walk. However, for those seeking a more comfortable experience, wearing proper walking shoes is advisable, especially if you plan to explore other tracks or embark on longer hikes in the area.

This is a beautiful beach and has a dog friendly area, you can swim here too. Perfect for a walk or for you dog to burn of some steam.
Darren G — Google review
This beach is amazing! The length of it is incredible and it’s such a relaxing place to visit. It’s so cool to see all the burrowing crabs and the little sand balls they make. While you’re in Port Douglas, walking, riding, or relaxing on the beach is one of the best parts. There is an area near the main street (Macrossan Street) where you can hire an umbrella and chairs (but you need cash). You can use these for as long as you like and it’s a really great experience. Definitely recommend visiting this beautiful beach! I also recommend staying nearby while in Port Douglas - my preferred location is “Number 2 On The Beach” which is just a few steps from the sand!! 👌🏼
Jordy M — Google review
Beautiful beach with a long sandy stretch to walk along or sun bake. Clean area with amenities and cafes near by. Lifeguarded section for safe swimming. We hired tubes from a guy on the beach who had a selection of equipment like boogie boards, sand play toys, and boards. Kids and I loved it!! Water a little murky not sure if that's normal or due to a bit of rough weather we'd had the day before.

A stunning and very peaceful place to watch the sunset. Quite a crowed when the weather is nice, with groups playing music, having picnics and enjoying a small glass while the sun sets. A truely beautiful place for relaxing, or exploring the small walks nearby.

Stunning spot near the centre to enjoy a relaxing moment at sunset.
Fabio — Google review
Just about the most glorious spot to watch the sunset you could imagine. Wonderful open, flat parkland ringed by tall palms with the cloud-crowned mountains across the waters. The sunsets behind the mountains lighting the sky in the most incredibly intense reds and (on our last visit) purples. Grab a cold bottle and a picnic rug and enjoy the show. Be warned though, half of PD will have the same plan so make sure you've made dinner reservations ahead of time!

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Mowbray National Park offers scenic drives and walks through rainforest-covered hills, with the iconic Black Mountain as a prominent feature. The Black Mountain Road provides a picturesque route from Kuranda to Julatten, but it's advisable to have a 4x4 due to muddy sections, especially closer to Julatten. Visitors can enjoy a challenging yet rewarding 12-kilometer walk surrounded by lush forest and captivating natural scenery.
Great walk all be it the first 2klms being significant uphill. Scenery a highlight. Surrounded by forest and nature with associated sights and sounds. Return trip 12 kilometres.

Beautiful rainforest. Black Mountain Road goes from Kuranda all the way to Julatten, but you’d better bring a 4x4, because there’s some sections closer to Julatten which are extremely muddy sometimes. Pity about all the logging happening along that road. Be careful of logging trucks.

WARNING! This address is the wrong one on google maps. It takes you to a private property that is the opposite side of where the actual park is. I talked to the owners of the property and they said it happens frequently in the last few months and many travelers get lost there. The real Mowbray National Park is south of Port Douglas, a few km past Craiglie.
