Swimming facility
Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a man-made saltwater pool located in the heart of Cairns' CBD, offering a safe and jellyfish-free swimming experience. Spanning 4800 square meters, it features different areas for various activities such as lap swimming and family fun. Lifeguards patrol the lagoon during opening hours, ensuring safety for all visitors. The adjacent foreshore boardwalk provides picnic spots, birdwatching areas, free barbecues, and fitness equipment.
Free public pool in the middle of the city centre, with a view of the coastline. The pool varies in depth so perfect for toddlers and kids, and then up to all ages. Goes up to 1.55m which was nice if you’re coming with family or a group of people. The water is warm so that’s also a perk. There’s a few lifeguards around as well, but obviously they’re not babysitters so make sure to look after your own kids for everyone’s safety.
Kat T — Google review
I visited on a Sunday, and the place was lively with people of all ages, from small children to elderly couples. By around 1pm, more and more people had arrived to sunbathe, and it got to the point where there were hardly any spots left to sit. Still, the pool itself wasn’t too crowded, and it was a very comfortable and relaxing experience overall.🏊‍♂️ While sitting by the pool and chatting with a friend, we noticed an older man across from us staring in our direction for nearly an hour. As we were getting ready to leave, he suddenly approached and said he was going to teach us how to swim. We politely declined, saying we had to go, and he walked away. To be honest, it didn’t leave a very good impression, and I would suggest being cautious if someone like that approaches you. It seemed like he was specifically targeting people who looked like tourists. Frankly, it felt like he may have had other intentions, possibly just wanting to touch someone. Other than that, there were no real issues with the place. Some people say public pools can have an unpleasant smell, but I didn’t notice any urine smell at all The depth of the water goes up to 1.55m in the deeper areas, so you can comfortably submerge up to your neck, which made it even more enjoyable.

Loved comming here on my holiday. Such a great way to have free fun. There are toilets and showers and if you are travelling solo like me or you need somewhere to put your stuff you can use the pay lockers.
Niamh S — Google review
Beautiful one day, perfect the next! 🌴✨ The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is absolutely stunning — crystal-clear waters, great facilities, and such a relaxing vibe. Perfect spot for a swim, sunbake, or just taking in the tropical atmosphere. A must-visit when in Cairns!
Dylan S — Google review
A large, free saltwater swimming lagoon right on the Esplanade. It’s well-maintained, has lifeguards, public toilets, and showers. Even if you’re not swimming, it’s a nice place to walk past or sit near. We visited in the morning when it was quiet, and the view was amazing! It’s open Thursday through Tuesday 6 AM to 9 PM and on Wednesdays from noon to 9 PM - per the website when I wrote this review.
Green K — Google review
Awesome like the best of a beach and the best of a pool all put together. Make sand castles without the waves crashing up and knocking them down. Walk into the pool with sand at your feet. Plenty of cafes and shady grass spots around to. Plus it has a manned life guard tower
DJ W — Google review
I didn't know the lagoon existed until we walked the esplanade and came across it. It is remarkably clean and well maintained. The surrounding grass and boardwalk are is also well maintained, there are bbq facilities and even powerpoints for charging devices. There were 2 life guards on duty every time we were there. The toilets were clean, however the showers needed to be cleaned when we were there. It's fantastic to have such good facilities free to the public. It was better here than at the Novotel where we were staying.
Danielle Z — Google review
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is hands down one of the best public swimming pools I’ve been to! It’s a fantastic place to cool off, especially with the tropical heat. The location is perfect—right on the waterfront, offering stunning views of the Coral Sea. The pool itself is huge, well-maintained, and has plenty of shallow areas, making it great for families with kids as well as adults just looking to relax. One of the things I love most is that it’s completely free! It’s rare to find such a high-quality public facility at no cost. There are lifeguards on duty, which adds a layer of safety, and the water is always crystal clear. The surrounding area is also great, with BBQ facilities, shaded spots, and plenty of seating for those who just want to enjoy the atmosphere.

Playground
Nature & Parks
Muddy's Playground in Cairns, Australia is a top destination for families with young children. The playground offers a variety of interactive and educational facilities, including water play areas, rope bridges, slides, playhouses, storytelling areas, and more. Kids can splash around in ankle-deep water or enjoy the flying fox and other rides while parents relax at the on-site cafe.
Free, huge and very fun playground - it has three sections and has a bit of everything for everybody, even for the mum and dad and the grandparents, as it has a cafe in the middle. The entire playground was very well shaded, making it very pleasant during hot Summer days. Our kids had a blast in the water play area.
Lucas Z — Google review
Great place for children to play and adults to enjoy the surroundings there. Can be quite busy but so worth the time to see the picturesque scenery
Starseed T — Google review
Many different areas for kids to play all with one gorgeous view! The play equipment is all in great condition and there are many an employee about who are tending to the landscaping and cleanliness of the Esplanade There are public bathrooms and showers available along with a water play area for little ones. Overall a wonderful place to take the family for some time together.

This has got to be one of the best playgrounds in the world. It's the best I've ever seen, has everything for all ages. A nice cafe nearby and great view of the ocean. A must visit if you have kids and are in Cairns!

What an amazing playground, for children of all ages. It's cleaned regularly by council which makes it a lovely experience. It's surrounded by trees for shade, lots of seating for parents to watch, and lots of different play equipment and water activities for the children. There are even toilets and a cafe for a cuppa. The best park I've been to in years! 5 stars for originality, colour and fun!

Zoo
Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Dome, situated atop the Reef Hotel Casino, is a popular tourist destination in Cairns. The sanctuary houses various animals such as reptiles, birds, marsupials, and tropical fish. Visitors can engage in interactive experiences like feeding carnivorous birds or enjoying exclusive encounters with koalas. Additionally, guests can opt for a Private Wildlife Experience to tour the park with a wildlife keeper and interact with three animals of their choice.
This was a great way to spend a few hours with the kids. We got them in time to do the tour with one of the staff members. Stephen was very informative and took the time to answer all of the kids questions. We also took in the reptile show, which was very interesting for the kids. They got a chance to touch a snake and blue tongued Stink. The kids for a chance to do all of the ropes courses, building walk and the rope drop. They very much enjoyed it. We also did the Koala hold, which the kids enjoyed. But it was very short, about 30 seconds. Would have been nice to spend a little longer holding the animal.

My daughter and I had such an amazing time. This place was fantastic and reasonably priced for a Cairns activity. The staff were all great and as a 6 year old, my daughter loved the Mid and High Zoom. Please don’t close this place. Now we have found it we want to return often.
BJG P — Google review
After many years we have revisited the Wildlife Dome, one place you don’t want to miss when you visit Cairns! Unfortunately I read in the local news that they are going to close this beautiful place 😢, what a loss for Cairns and the visiting tourists. Yes it has become a bit outdated but where else in Australia can you see wildlife up close on the roof of a casino!? The last time we visited, both my wife and I were ambulant, unfortunately my wife is now wheelchair bound which makes visiting a lot of place more difficult, despite all the wheelchair ramps etc - believe me I speak out of experience. Upon arrival at the roof top, staff were quickly to assist us so we could enjoy our outing to the Dome. All staff we came across during our visit were so friendly and helpful, just fantastic and that despite the impending loss of this attraction. If you can go and see this attraction before it’s too late and don’t forget youngsters will have a ball doing the Zoom activities.
Carlo S — Google review
What a fabulous place. Enjoy walking through the roof top looking at the wildlife and chatting with the keeper or if you want to test you skills try the zoom walk, Ropes, ladders and skywalk your way around the purpose built skills and ability course. It was so popular there really were people everywhere. We truly loved it. There is also a small cafe on the entrance to Zoom. This is great if you have an energetic child or children.
Lynne — Google review
Super awesome place for people of all ages. At 18 I absolutely loved it. From the wildlife park at the bottom, to the high ropes course that stretched over all the enclosures including a zip line over the croc was incredible. Also had the chance to hold and get a photo with a koala , snake and turtle which is very nice
Grace F — Google review
I climbed to the top and walked around the dome. Great views, while the boys did the high obstacle course. I should have gone back on one of the days I had free entry, you get four days to revisit the place.
Julie E — Google review
Amazing place! Staff are super nice and helpful, while activities are very fun. I recommend doing the Mid-Zoom and High-Zoom, as those were the most enjoyable. Power Jump and Dome Walk were both nice, but were quite short. Wildlife there is okay diverse, but shows there are very informative. Ziplining was my highlight (also over the CROCODILE 🐊!!) I loved it. Thanks for the awesome time here.
Matthew L — Google review
We received a booking as a Christmas gift from a family member as we are visiting from Harvey Bay and I was a little nervous with One of my children being autistic and not knowing what to expect however we all absolutely loved it. the staff were amazing and we will be coming back again to do even more adventures climbing even higher. We especially loved how the wet weather outside does not affect the attraction experience. Definitely a must do attraction. ♥️ The Baker family

Cairns Aquarium, which opened in 2017, is a unique attraction dedicated to showcasing the diverse habitats and species of Tropical North Queensland. With over 16,000 sea creatures from 10 ecosystems and 71 habitats, it offers an immersive experience for visitors. The aquarium features tank-based exhibits created by Advanced Aquarium Technologies (AAT), including a Turtle Rehabilitation Centre. Guests can enjoy daily talks and animal presentations as well as interactive experiences like the Marine Life Encounter tour.
We had such a great experience at the aquarium. It is not only a place to see sea lives but also a venue to learn about the natural history of the surrounding area. A lot of animals and detailed information on them are available. Highly recommended for all ages.
Victor L — Google review
Fantastic set up, loads of different creatures. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful aquarium and worth every cent. Before we entered we thought it was a bit pricy but once we were inside we definitely got more than our moneys worth.
Keri K — Google review
AMAZING 🤩 The Cairns Aquarium is a great place for all ages it has lots of fish, lizards and snakes. The tickets are a bit pricey ($58 for adult pass) but they are the money's worth. Make some time for a good hour in the aquarium and exit through the gift shop afterwards. If you get in at opening times there is not much of a wait but after that you can be waiting for a half hour.
Liam M — Google review
Excellent display and presentation. Check the map for special feeding times etc. Take your own water for drinks. It's close inside, if that sort of thing affects you. Lots of photo opportunities. Good restaurant nearby.
Susan D — Google review
We did the Twilight tour and if you want to see the aquarium with a guide and be the only people in the aquarium, this is the way to go. We had 9 people plus our guide, Marine Biologist Neve, and she showed us everything! We learned a ton and got to ask as many questions as we wanted. There are plenty of fish and of course the sharks and rays, but also so many reptiles. And everyone has a great name. My fave being chopsticks the enormous 4 meter snake.
Aidy A — Google review
One of my favorite aquariums in Australia! My highlight was the Predators of the Reef tunnel with sharks and rays swimming overhead — amazing to see them up close. The aquarium takes you on a journey from rainforest rivers to the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, with over 15,000 animals across different ecosystems. I loved the shark talk and all the different presentations, which make it both fun and educational.

Night toor was amazing! Felt like we had the place to ourselves. The exhibits are really great and our guides Cameron and Ruby were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Thanks a lot guys!

Great experience at the Cairns Aquarium. Location : Centrally located, walking distance to most accommodations in the city. Curation : plenty of local sealife. Very suitable for children, my 3 year old niece had a ball. Recommend getting tickets in advance so you can skip the queue.

Scenic Railroads
Embark on a journey through time and nature with the Kuranda Scenic Railway, an iconic vintage train ride that connects Cairns and Kuranda. Dating back to 1891, this historic railway offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by pioneers who built it, including hand-cut tunnels and harsh conditions. As you traverse through lush rainforests, catch sight of cascading waterfalls and the breathtaking Barron Gorge.
Beautiful place to visit with family, partner, or friends! You can walk, eat at one of the many restaurants, and take the scenic railway to Kuranda. Along the way, you'll stop at a lookout point to take in the stunning views. Once you arrive in Kuranda, you'll have plenty of restaurant options to choose from. You can also stroll around, and be sure to visit the butterfly sanctuary. It's a truly beautiful place! One tip: be sure to buy your tickets in advance, as you'll have the option to choose your transportation. There are two options: you can take a bus to a designated point, then board the railway, or take the railway for the return journey. The train ride offers breathtaking views, making it a great way to cap off your day. Highly recommended!"
Stephy M — Google review
Great train ride, good views and at the scenic locations the train even slows down to enjoy the views! The combination of train ride and the gondola is not cheap, but its an unique experience with a rich history.
Sander V — Google review
We took the railway up and the cable car down. It was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed the commentary about the railway and the views. It was well organised and there were clean restrooms and a cafe at the station while you wait for the train. Everything ran efficiently and was well organised. We highly recommend this experience A+++
Party T — Google review
We took the railway up, and the skyrail down (2 ad + 2 tweens). It was a stunning trip up to Kuranda. The landscape is beautiful. The handouts are great, and it was really nice to follow along with the map, corresponding to the audio voice over at points of interest. There was a brief stop at Barron Falls to allow a better view of the waterfall. A truly lovely experience.
Danielle Z — Google review
A wonderful trip to Kuranda. We were fortunate to get Gold pass at the last moment. It was very relaxing with drink and morning/afternoon tea service. Very comfy lounge seating. Would recommend 👌
Julie C — Google review
Lovely train ride from Cairns to Kuranda with stunning views. So much history & very informative. Journey takes 2hrs one way. I paid $85 for a return ticket. I had to reschedule my booking multiple times, which wasn't an issue. Definitely recommend booking in advance.
Nga M — Google review
A truly spectacular and scenic journey! The Kuranda Scenic Railway is a must-do for anyone visiting Cairns. The old-school train carriages are charming, and the ride through the rainforest is breathtaking. The views of Barron Falls are incredible, and it's amazing to see the engineering of the track. A perfect way to experience the beauty of the Wet Tropics.
Santosh B — Google review
A lovely experience. If you want to do the sky rail as well then your best option is to take the sky rail up to Kurando and book both through the sky rail site and add a bus transfer to the lower sky rail station. Then you can stay on the scenic railway all the way back to Cairns station. The trip itself was 100% scenic with some amazing corners in the tracks and views of several waterfalls. The trip back to Cairns takes about 1.5 hours. Cheers and enjoy

Cairns Botanic Gardens is a must-visit destination in Cairns, offering guided and audio tours amidst a remarkable collection of tropical plants. The garden provides numerous picturesque spots for family photos, capturing genuine emotions against the backdrop of lush greenery. It's also an ideal location for professional headshots, showcasing a tropical paradise setting. Additionally, visitors can explore the Cairns Aquarium nearby, home to diverse aquatic wildlife from the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest.
Beautiful trees and plants along a winding pathway with a pretty lake. Has toilets, cafe and information centre. It has an area for music and bands to play. They have a market the last Sunday of the month, which I attended. There were varied locally made things to buy and also street food to eat. All in all a great place to visit.

Beautiful gardens. Great place to go for a walk and enjoy the sights it has to offer. You can stroll around at your own leisure. Lots of amazing plants and flowers to take a photo of. You can even sit in the grass areas and enjoy a picnic.

The Cairns Botanical Gardens are a must-visit for anyone who enjoys botanical gardens or is spending time in the area with kids. The variety and beauty of the plants on display are simply stunning, and the gardens are so well maintained that every path feels like a new discovery. We especially enjoyed the scenic boardwalk and the lookout over the lake—it’s peaceful and offers a lovely view of the surrounding nature. The nature playground was a hit with the kids, and there were plenty of great spots to grab a bite or relax with a picnic. A perfect blend of natural beauty and family-friendly amenities!

Very nice lots of exotic plants - We spent three hours here. It was very pleasant- cool in the rainforest shade out of the hot sun. Nice lakes to walk beside where we saw several turtles, 9 inch fish. Scrub turkeys, some other birds and ducks.

Great way to spend an afternoon in the beautiful botanical garden. Amazing bird sound as you wander through the gardens. Loved the variety of flowering plants

Beautiful spot. Friends of the Gardens run tours at 10am Mon to Fri and there's a bird tour Tuesdays at 7.30am! Look out for the Friends of the Garden visitors centre as well as the council run visitors centre - lots of awesome souvenirs in both, with Friends of the Garden very decently priced.

Cairns Botanic Gardens is a pleasant place to visit with a cozy little café and clean restrooms. It’s a peaceful spot with some nice walking paths and tropical plants. However, compared to botanic gardens in larger Australian cities, it’s relatively small and doesn’t feel as well-maintained. Worth a quick visit if you’re nearby, but not particularly impressive overall.

We did the Koala and Wildlife Park and the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, but wee unable to get tickets for the Army Duck Tour as we booked fairly last minute and there were a lot of tour groups present. The Wildlife Park was small but nice, and the combination of activities made for a great day out. The Panagirri Aboriginal Experience included demonstrations of didgeridoo playing, spear throwing and some dances, as well as getting a chance to throw a boomerang. All guides were very nice and explained what they were doing, but a bit more history and explanation of why would have been interesting. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area!!
Reuben J — Google review
We went as part of a tour group. It was an overall great experience. Lunch was good and staff were friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was the Koala photo experience was too short and transactional. We paid $41 for a single photo and the entire experience with the koala lasted no more than 10 seconds, just enough for the staff to snap a picture. It may be better if the group can have a closer look at the koala with some commentary? The experience felt too impersonal and only focused on the picture alone. Other than that, it was great. The Army Duck tour guide was educational and funny. We enjoyed it.

All the three experiences were great. Aboriginal dance, boomerang and their history was the best. It was great to experience the army duck. Animals were great for my kids. You can easily spend a good 4 hours. This place had buffet food which was value for money. The whole place is accessible and with public toilets.

Amazing nature conserve and education centre, we visited as part of a tour and after 5 hours wished we had more time still. Great aboriginal demonstrations and very accessible viewing of the animals of Australia. We had an awesome guide for the DUKW tour who gave us loads of information on many indigenous plants on the tour. After all that we wandered around to read the information signs for the many trees and plants they have there. We really enjoyed our visit there.

Food at the buffet was delicious with many good options. We really enjoyed seeing koalas, crocodiles and kangaroos and could tell that they were well cared for. Every staff member we encountered at the park was polite and helpful. The Aboriginal dance performance was wonderful and the performers were very friendly. They even taught us how to throw a boomerang, which was a memorable experience. The army duck tour was both fun and informative. We learned about the different plants in the rainforest. Our driver, Rhys (if I remember his name correctly), was fantastic! His sense of humor and commentary made the drive engaging. He shared many interesting facts, which made our experience even better. We will be coming back!

We visited recently as a family of 3 (2 adults and a 3 year old). The Army Duck tour through the rainforest was a highlight of our trip to QLD. Jared our tour guide was extremely informative, and my husband and I walked away with so much knowledge on the local plants and wildlife! I wish the trip was longer as we enjoyed it so much. We look forward to coming back the next time we travel up to QLD.

The area offers wonderful paths and trails for exploration, as well as picnic areas for relaxation.
Crystal Cascades is stunning. Clear water, rainforest all around, and plenty of spots to swim, relax, or explore. The walk is easy and peaceful. The water is cool and so refreshing! Great for families, friends, or just a solo nature fix. Bring swimmers, a picnic, and a sense of adventure — you’ll love it here. Perfect for a hot day. We loved it and can’t wait to go back! 💧🌿

Beautiful rainforest water holes Safe as to swim Plenty of places to venture and pick a spot to yourselves. Plenty of picnic areas. Toilets in car park and are very modern + change rooms. Plenty of parking.

Been in the region for years, but sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate what’s in your own backyard. Lovely 1.2 klm walk each way to the viewing platform. Slight incline; wheelchair friendly the whole way. Stayed strong and didn’t indulge at the ice cream van. Not sure of the hours but was there on a Saturday afternoon in October.

Great place to get into freshwater. Also the rain forest is beautiful.I feel this place is under rated as there are no commercial outlets around. You get to see nature at its best in this place. Must visit for all tourists. Also the water was crystal clear. There are public toilets at the car park. There is no place close by to buy food, it would be better to carry food if you are spending time by getting into water. This place might get slippery when it rains. It's accessible till the viewing platform near the main Falls. There are barbecue and picnic places on the way.

Beautiful spot. You do have to walk uphill a bit, but in my opinion, it’s quite an easy walk. And we saw so many turtles in the water 🐢.

Clean toilets and nice paved walk up to viewing platform of falls. Was steep and little slippery so better to walk in good shoes. Plenty of lower pools to choose to paddles and explore rocks.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway offers a unique way to experience the ancient rainforest in Tropical North Queensland. The 7.5km cable car ride takes you over the rainforest canopy, with opportunities to explore two rainforest floor stations along the way - Red Peak and Barron Falls. The journey provides stunning views and a chance to spot electric blue Ulysses butterflies.
Skyrail Cairns was an unforgettable experience! The views over the rainforest were absolutely stunning, and the entire journey was peaceful and relaxing. We felt very safe at every station, and the information provided along the way was clear and helpful. It made the experience even more meaningful and educational. The shops at the stations were fun to browse through, and the photos taken at the end turned out beautifully — a lovely keepsake from the day. We truly enjoyed every part of the ride. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cairns — it’s a must-do experience!

I 100% recommend doing the skyrail. I did it there and back and WOW such amazing views. You get if at two stops between the start and finish and you get the most amazing views of the rainforest and the waterfall. I also fully recommend getting of at karunda and exploring the town, it was so beautiful.

Amazing experience gliding over World Heritage rainforest with stunning views of Barron Falls and the canopy. The mid-stations with boardwalks and ranger talks make it more than just a ride—it’s educational and memorable. Diamond View gondolas are worth it for the glass floor. It can get warm in the cabins and busy at peak times, but overall it’s a must-do when visiting Cairns.

We took the railway up & the skyrail down. Excellent experience - a definite highlight of the holiday. Staff were friendly and efficient. Spectacular views. Great gift shop. The stops were great to make it a full experience and provide great views of the falls. It works very well, being able to get on and off, with staff talking you through the process each time, and keeping it running smoothly.

Take the train up and Skyrail down. Book in advance. Hop off the Skyrail on the way back to see the waterfall from the other side ( better view). 8am to 1pm was more than enough to see everything. They will say you must be there 30 minutes before train’s departure, but look 10-15 is plenty.

Another great trip while in Cairns, scenic rail to the Karunda village, aboriginal experience, cruise down river on army ducks, then the amazing trip down on the skyrail. Highly recommend this day trip. It's a long day but we'll worth it.

An experience well worth the cost and time… Left from the base terminal at the earliest (8:30 am) time available…} Possibly the best time to go - to beat the crowds, especially during peak season (School Holidays in July)… Stopped at each location along the considerable ride and worth each one…. To smell and hear the rain-forest is worth it. The staff were so accommodating and attempted were possible to seat people for the best possible experience… Give yourself at least 1/2 a day to experience both the Skyrail and Kuranda.

Visitors from California enjoyed the interactive dinner show featuring traditional tribal dance and fire making. The park offers an immersive experience where guests can learn about Aboriginal culture in Australia's rainforest.
It’s a great cultural experience. They’re friendly share their knowledge. Especially, have to join the cultural creations and Indigenous Guided Bush Food Walk, traditional weave and Jewellery making, painting a boomerang and guide on a tour of the parklands learning about native plants, Finish Bush Food Walk having a taste of native fruits jam with bread and billy, it’s very delicious. Keep up the great work on sharing your culture!

This was a great cultural experience. Learned about the aboriginal culture in Australia’s rainforest. Everyone was very friendly and excited to share their knowledge. Can easily spend an entire day there, but half day is sufficient. Make sure to check schedule to be able to visit the shows. We paid a little extra for the cultural creations and were able to make a bracelet/necklace and paint a returning boomerang that we got to bring home. We were able to throw boomerangs and spears in an open field which was a lot of fun. For lunch, we got a tasting plate for 2 which had a great selection of Australian food (kangaroo, emu, crocodile, prawns, etc.). A must see for anyone wanting to learn about culture in Cairns area. Keep up the great work on sharing your culture!

Highly recommended experience with lots of different fun activities including spear & Boomerang throwing. The dance show was amazing as well. Special shout-out to the very friendly staff and guides!
Ramzi K — Google review
Very interesting. The guided tour lasted 2.5 hours approximately with different stations. Our favourite being the boomerang and spear throwing (although we would have liked to throw more than 2 spears and 3 tries at the boomerang throwing, guessing this is because of the size of the last tour at 2pm for the day). We were disappointed that the boomerang painting was only at 11:30am. Also our guided tour didn’t do all the things promised in the brochure, we didn’t do the face painting or traditional oven demonstration and guessing other items listed were all done in the dance. None the less fun, informative and friendly staff. The cafe had delicious food for lunch as well.
Toni M — Google review
This is a fun experience. The dinner show was fabulous. They interact with the audience. Our overseas visitors from California really enjoyed themselves getting involved in traditional tribal dance and fire making. Giving us all facial paint was also fun. The buffet food was fantastic. We planned it that we attended after catching the cable car down from Kuranda as it is located not far from there. Altogether a great experience and highly recommended.

I have a great interest in Aboriginal culture and this place blew me away. There is many displays to look at including a dance performance and guided experiences to take part in including boomerang & spear throwing, learning about bush foods and their rituals. There is a variety of experiences that are offered as extensions which I did both the creative experience & bush tucker & medicine walk which included lunch ($30) and afternoon tea.

We visited the tjapukai theater in the afternoon. After entering you see the hall where there is an exhibition of various things used by the aborigines, there art and culture. Then you enter the theater. Where a group of aborigine dancers welcomes you. Their leader was very funny and won over the crowd. They narrated their culture and traditions, their musical instruments and the importance of making fire using traditional methods. They were also gonna display the throwing of boomerang, but as it was raining heavily outside, they couldn't. But they displayed marvelous songs and dance of their culture. They also got the crowd involved, as their song had a nice rythm and beat to it. Has to say tjapukai theater is an impressive show.👌🏼👍🏻

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Incredible collection — so glad we've got 3 days to see it all! We visited yesterday and are already planning to go back tomorrow. The 3-day ticket is perfect — there's so much to see, and you don’t want to rush through it. The museum is huge and very well organised. Tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery — all beautifully restored and displayed. The variety and scale of the collection are truly impressive. It’s great for all ages. Whether you're a history buff or just curious, you'll find something fascinating. Highly recommended — give yourself plenty of time to take it all in. We’re so glad we did!

What an impressive collection! If you're a history buff or just enjoy learning, I can highly recommend visiting this museum. You can get up close and observe machinery and weaponry that have survived for hundreds of years. So much to see, and several experiences such as the shooting gallery and Humvee rides available to observe or participate in (get there early!) There is a play area for the kids, and a well stocked gift shop. Be prepared it is quite warm inside the very large shed, so stay hydrated.

Well worth a visit if you’re into this type of boys toys. Everything is well laid out and the information boards are informative. There are special activity days and also you can book rides on a couple of vehicles but check first. Another busy attraction is the rifle range downstairs

Awesome collection of armour/tanks. Been following their YouTube channel for awhile now and was keen to visit. Must see if you are into WW2 Tanks and history as well as more modern armour. Warning, a large collection and so much to look at just don't take a partner that is not as interested in it as much as you are...lol. I needed more time to read the descriptions and take reference pictures for my model kit set growing collection.

One of the more interesting tree house spotted that even adults are tempted to play hide and seek amongst and in between the branches. Below the tree house is not less beckoning especially with the serene water backdrop and the sound of docking ship blowing its horn. We really enjoy this park. People watching, reading on the many wooden benches and two eatery premises on offer. One corner is Hemingway's Brewery (spotted people playing billiard table inside) and Wharf One Cafe on the other end. A must for us strollers.

It offers a wide variety of products including local souvenirs, arts and crafts, exotic fruits and vegetables. The food court is a major highlight with its affordable Asian-inspired eateries and cheap drinks from the bar. With over 131 stalls, visitors can shop for locally made goods such as textiles, artwork, daily items, and handicrafts.
Cairns Market Night is located right in the heart of the city and comes alive, especially at night. It’s an excellent spot for dining, with a wide variety of restaurants and food stalls offering something for everyone. The market also features several shops, making it a great place to browse and pick up souvenirs. One of the best parts is its proximity to the beach, just a few minutes’ walk away. A perfect evening might include enjoying a delicious dinner at the market, followed by a relaxing stroll along the beach. The only challenge can be parking, as it tends to fill up quickly in the evening. Still, the lively atmosphere, food variety, and nearby beach make it a fantastic place to hang out and unwind.

Fairly small market with a number of food choices. Lots of small items for sale with some interesting shops to see. Ended up getting some small souvenirs to bring back to the kids after spending about 30 mins here. Half an hour to an hour is probably as much time as you can spend here as it is not a large place, but worth visiting if you are in the area.

The Cairns Night Market was a fun and lively experience! It’s the perfect place to wander in the evening, with a great mix of local stalls, souvenirs, and tasty food options. The food court had plenty of choices, especially if you’re in the mood for Asian cuisine or sweet treats. It’s not a huge market, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Cairns and want to soak up the local vibe after dark. History Museums
Cairns Museum, located in the former School of Arts building, offers a captivating journey through the history of life in the tropics. The museum showcases a diverse collection of objects, photographs, and archival records that chronicle Cairns' evolution from early Indigenous occupation to its development as a bustling port town and tourist destination. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring items such as sugar cane wagon wheels, World War II ration cards, 1960s swimsuits, and even stuffed cane toads.
We had a 30 minute stop at the museum as part of a day tour with another company. James was assigned to us - and what can I say - he was A - M - A - Z - I - N - G. I could have stayed all day with him - he was informative, funny, kind and inclusive. I highly recommend that anyone who visits Cairms - they should visit this museum and learn what the city is all about. It is an incredible history. Thank you James, in particular, for making our short time with you so wonderful.

Nice open veranda area upstairs with a breezy view of Cairns streets. Worth the visit, very reasonable price for entry. Recommend!

We went to the museum this afternoon. Our guide James displayed a remarkable depth of knowledge about the history of Cairns. From the indigenous arrival 60,000 years ago to the relevant tribes of the area James named the current groups and some of their customs. In 1860 it all changed. Arrival of the white man in an international gold rush. James covered the complete history of the area through the Kanakas, to various relevant development phases up to present day. All this explained through an excellent array of historic displays. I encourage visitors (and locals too) to spend an hour gathering some local colour from this top establishment Find it in the green building corner of Lake & Shields St.

Located in a restored 1936 government building, Cairns Art Gallery is the only visual art museum in Far North Queensland. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2005, the gallery has been dedicated to documenting and presenting the history, heritage, and contemporary culture of Australia and the world through visual arts, craft, and design. With four exhibition spaces showcasing around 30 exhibitions annually, it features national and international artists with a strong emphasis on local and indigenous works.
The Indigenous artwork is beautiful and the accompanying artist introductions informative. I would recommend that people attend this exhibition, which is on until September 2025.

The art gallery is very small but worth the visit. When I went, a whole floor was closed since they were getting it ready for an exhibition so I could not see much. It’s enough to have a little cultural experience in such a small location. The shop is very nice, lots of books and aboriginal art work.

Went with my 9 year old daughter as she loves coming here to see the new and free art exhibitions in cool air-conditioned comfort as do I. As locals, this exhibition was so beautiful with Indigenous art work, with our favourites in "The Loft". The video of the female elder recollection was beautiful and transported me to her childhood in the Mungalli country up here. The artwork added to that and my daughter was visibly entranced. We love the Art Galley and make it a ritual. Great for kids as well as adults as well as tourists and locals. The photos attached are the ones my daughter took. She asked to take them as she loved the work. Every exhibition is beautiful and wonderfully showcased! ❤️😊

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stepping into the Cairns Art Gallery was like walking through time — a peaceful and inspiring highlight from my recent cruise visit. I was instantly struck by the building itself, a beautifully restored 1936 heritage landmark that once served as the Public Curator’s Office and Government Savings Bank. It carries a quiet grandeur that reminds you how much history and heart live within Cairns. Inside, the experience is deeply calming and beautifully curated. Every exhibition feels intentional — from contemporary collections to breathtaking Indigenous works that speak to the spirit of North Queensland. The gallery invites you to slow down, reflect, and really take in the artistry and stories that have shaped this region. What I loved most was the stillness — the sense that art, history, and soul all meet under one roof. Whether you’re an artist, a dreamer, or simply exploring Cairns for the first time, this gallery is a must-visit. It’s a timeless little sanctuary that captures the creative heartbeat of Far North Queensland.

Goggles are provided for kids to protect against saltwater spray while adults can wear their own sunglasses.
Was lucky enough to have a Jet Boat ride today with Pat who was a really good bloke. My wife and I have been visiting the area for our honeymoon as we just got married last week and this was definitely an activity we enjoyed so much. The team were all so nice from when we first entered the door. Thank you all for such a pleasant and good experience all round. I hadn't been on a jet boat since I was a young kid and my wife's hadnt ever been before and we couldn't have asked for a better day. Thank you again all of you and we will definitely be back in the future.

What a fantastic experience, so much fun and we got absolutely soaking wet. The staff were great and very helpful. Our jet boat driver Steve was lots of fun and made our jet boat ride an amazing experience. We highly recommend doing this when you are visiting Cairns.

My friends and I had the best time on the Bad Fishy jet boat ride. We had a group of 8 and were able to book the morning of- it was super easy to find and the crew was so welcoming and efficient. Steve was our boat driver and we had such a fun time with him. All we wanted afterwards was to be able to go again!! Highly recommend if you want a unique and quick fun way to see some awesome sights while also laughing and screaming like you are on a rollercoaster! Everyone should book this!

We were lucky enough to stumble upon Bad Fishy while out for a family walk — and I’m so glad we did! It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The ride was packed with fun, adrenaline, and an awesome way to take in the stunning views… at speed! The entire team was fantastic from the get-go. Our eldest son was pretty nervous and almost sat the ride out, but the staff were incredibly kind and understanding. No pressure, no judgment — just genuine support. They reassured him without the usual “she’ll be right” attitude, and that made all the difference. In the end, he jumped on board with us, and we all had an absolute blast. Can’t recommend this experience highly enough — 100% worth it for families, thrill-seekers, or anyone keen for a unique and unforgettable way to see the sights!

Absolutely the best fun to be had! We were lucky enough for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) to have the boat to ourselves with our skipper Belinda. Not only did Belinda make us feel safe, even doing a quick practice turn before heading off to make sure we were all ok, she was so fun and kept the party vibes pumping with loud tunes, plenty of go-pro footage and a winning grin that kept us all pumped and having the best time. A million percent recommend if you are in Cairns, it’s wet, wild and worth your time!

Great experience. The team were amazing. Pat had us flying around. My Dad and I had the best time. Highly recommend. Thanks for the memories!

My family had the best time with Bad Fishy Jet Boat. Actually, however, there were very few people on the boat at the time we booked, so we thought that the boat would be cancelled. But the crew guided us very kindly. In particular, those who want extra fun and thrills are recommended to sit at the back of the boat. You will be very wet, but it's just as fun. Highly recommended!!!

Highly recommend this company!! 10/10 for the Sunset cruise & Jetboat ride. The sunset cruise was with Joe.. this cruise was amazing, with a breath taking sunset & view of Cairns at night from the water. Joe was very funny, and had great knowledge of the area which made the cruise even better than the sunset. We also did the Jetboat… what an adrenaline rush!! Such an awesome experience, our driver Jacob, what a great guy! Very experienced, funny and definitely delivered lots of spins and made sure no one was left dry. 10/10, great company, awesome staff, definite must do whilst on holidays in Cairns :)

Centenary Lakes Nature Play Space is a remarkable playground that invites children to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature while engaging in imaginative play. Nestled within the serene surroundings of Edge Hill, this unique area features an array of creative elements such as dinosaur bones to discover, climbing ropes, and enchanting fairy gardens. Kids can build their own play huts or explore tunnels and digging patches, all designed to spark curiosity and adventure.
Bring repellent! The entry for the play space is not through what looks like the main entrance to the park; it's beside it and it's got the Nature Play sign at the front. This is the most beautiful nature play space I've ever seen. My videos and pics don't do it justice. Really lovely place 🥰 a fence at the front would make it even better though, being next to a main road.

Absolutely great place for kids and families. Beautiful play spaces and gardens right in centre of suburbia. Grandson loves it!

It's a really lovely place for young children to play and learn. Quite accessible but at the time of visiting the water play systems weren't working, the kids still enjoyed themselves however.

This is the best play ground I’ve ever come across the kids love it. Cairns city council and the botanical gardens have done a great job. Just don’t forget your insect repellent.

If you love nature and the environment check out Centenary Lakes. This area is a real asset to Cairns. Keep any little ones away from the water though, just in case there is a croc hiding nearby.
Rob P — Google review
Good playground for all ages ! Plenty to explore and was covered nicely by the trees, water to play with, different climbing areas and lots to do and see ! The kids had great fun building the huts too ! Would be great if the sensory garden area was looked after. Nothing there but some half dead mint and nothing signage wise to give us some clues as to what else could be there.

FUN IN NATURE! I love taking my kids here. Such a unique design that really incorporates the beautiful environment around it. Located close to the Centenary Lakes, wheelchair accessible and toilets close by. The kids will have a ball here and they can even go and check out the ducks after :) Beautiful place for a picnic!

Miniature golf course
Sugarworld Adventure Park in Cairns is a family-friendly amusement park with a variety of attractions for all ages. The park features body, mat, and raft slides, as well as an interactive aquatic playground for kids. In addition to swimming pools and a 9-hole mini-golf course, the park offers endless hours of fun. While it may not be as large as some other waterparks, it still provides great entertainment for kids aged 6 and older.
This is really a nice family park where the whole family can enjoy an outing, BBQ, a playground for the kids and a water world to enjoy. There are plenty of fruit trees of which you can eat the fruit and the nuts on the nut trees. The beautiful peacocks run wild around there.
Peter T — Google review
If you’ve got kids and you’re looking for the ultimate summers day out then Sugarworld is the place to be! It’s not exactly cheap, but honestly, for a full day of water filled fun, it’s great value. Heads up parents just spectating, you need to pay to enter as well so you may as well jump in and enjoy yourself with the kids! Between the splash park, smaller pools, and the 3 epic super slides, everyone is guaranteed a day of laughter and excitement. For families with older kids over 10, just keep in mind the smaller splash area and little pools are off limits for them, which leaves mainly the super slides and mini golf to keep them busy. The super slides are definitely a hit though (if you can survive the constant trek up there!) There are heaps of shaded areas and picnic tables, which makes it super family friendly, and I love that there are lockers available if you’re planning to jump in the water yourself (can’t comment on prices as I haven’t used them myself). The bathrooms were also impressively clean for such a big and busy park so big tick there! Mini golf adds a bit of extra fun although we found it a bit tricky for the littlies with some steep slopes and sneaky creeks ready to constantly swallow those golf balls. Still, most kids seem more than happy to spend their time on the slides anyway! Now, a few things that DESPERATELY need some love and attention to take this park from good to amazing… 1) The cafe wait times and staff attitude… Every single visit, it’s been 30+ minutes just to order, and then more waiting for the food. The line moves slower than a turtle in thongs, and the staff always seem… less than thrilled to be there. A little more efficiency (and a few more smiles) would make a world of difference… not to mention it would likely boost your sales too! 2) The pathway up to the red super slide… Ouch! The exposed aggregate surface is brutally sharp and rough on bare feet. Please, please, please consider resurfacing or matting it next off season. 3) Super slide safety… This was a HUGE one for me and I deducted a whole star for this one. When the traffic light system isn’t working at the top of the red slide, then there absolutely needs to be a lifeguard up there to manage turns. Without it, it quickly turns into chaos, and that’s not safe for anyone. Parents shouldn’t have to police the line with other people’s kids. Honestly it got so dangerous I took my little man off of that one. Despite these hiccups, Sugarworld is still a fantastic day out and a solid summer favourite in our household. We’ll absolutely keep coming back, I’m just hoping a few tweaks can make it the five star experience it’s so close to being!

I loved the mini golf, it was the best I've ever played in. One slide was closed when we went Food was ok They need to put a bit more Work into some walking paths It was a good day out They did follow rules

Rude staff. Pay too much for what they provide, when Townsville Water Park is free. Charging Adults that don't swim. Ridiculous. Highly do not recommend.
Celia G — Google review
It states children under 10 must be supervised at all times but parents cant go down the slides with them on splash mountain. So means younger children cant go down splash mountain slides as they are suppose to be attended. Well they arent supervised if they are going down slides by themselves. Hmm.
Tracey D — Google review
Amazing place to spend a day or half day. Waterslides are fun specially with kids between 6 years and older. Almost all slides are safe and you do not need to worry about. Please don't expect too much as it is not a waterpark like Gold Coast. Very economical as you just need to spend 61$ for a family of four including big slides. Also greenery and park is very good. My kids loved it and me and my wife too.

Lovely day out with the family My sons 14th birthday with mates in the school holidays. We packed our own food for a picnic but there is a kiosk there for hot food and drinks... A multi area water park which caters for the young and ' not so young A great day's fun for all!!!

We love Sugarworld - the slides are fun and the lines are never too long. Mini golf is a good laugh and there are lots of shady spots to relax too. It’s great that you can bring your own food to have a picnic - the kiosk is great for hot food and ice creams. The big public park outside is worth a visit too.

Cairns Wake Park is a lively destination that offers a variety of water activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can enjoy waterskiing, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding in the man-made freshwater lake. The park provides beginner equipment and also hosts kids club sessions during school holidays. Additionally, it features floating slides, trampolines, and challenging obstacles for an exciting experience.
It was a fantastic experience for a first-timer. My husband purchased the two-hour session. After a brief safety video, the first-timer is required to successfully kneeboard around the course, avoiding all the ramps. This took at least an hour to learn and required considerable upper body strength. After switching boards, Sam assisted by placing the board in the water until the standing position was mastered. Sam was very encouraging and invested as an instructor. Although my husband didn't manage to complete the course while standing, I highly recommend this experience. We also purchased the delicious chili nachos from John at the snack bar. We highly recommend this as well.

Really great experience here with a somewhat challenging group! The staff were all very friendly and clearly enjoyed their work. The coaches were patient and helpful for our group of English language learners. Even the locals were friendly, encouraging, and helpful with us. They definitely have a good community going! They were also accommodating as we changed our sessions and session lengths multiple times. The prices are reasonable (almost cheap!) compared to other similar activities.
Blake — Google review
tl;dr unwelcoming, hidden costs, do not recommend My friend and I are moderately experienced boat wakeboarders, but it was our first time trying cable. We booked a 2 hour pass on advance, and were told to come whenever we liked. Upon arrival, we were flat out ignored by the staff for about 10 minutes. Eventually, once we were acknowledged, we were shown a short safety video which did little to explain anything. We were then given a life jacket and helmet, but were not told anything about where to find the rental boards. We looked around for a bit and eventually found them. They were pretty much just planks, and did not even have bindings meaning there were difficult to stay in. Additionally, we were informed that we were not allowed to try the obstacles, as we did not pay extra to rent a "pro board". This meant that we were constrained to get dragged around on flat water for 2 whole hours. To add to this, when we asked if we could ride doubles (a very common request, and there were many others doing it), we were denied as it is a feature reserved for members only. That brings me to my final qualm. We were the only non members, and most of the members were aggressively unfriendly, often cutting in line and being generally disrespectful. A member took the handle I had in my hands off me, as he wanted to go right then. Many other young kids were pulling downright dangerous moves, jumping in the water right in front of the starting dock as I was about to go. The cable operator did nothing to discourage this, and all the parents of the young kids were drinking by the clubhouse. I was really looking forward to trying cable wakeboarding, but was thoroughly disappointed. I strongly advise against going to Cairns Wake Park. It was a bad experience and not worth the money.
Joel O — Google review
Really enjoyable experience. Short briefing video and set up with helmet and lifejacket then your free to get on the cables. Start with 1 lap on a kneel board to show competence then free to use on of their wakeboards. Cable operator was really friendly and willing to offer useful advice on how to improve. Vibes of the place were great with all staff and other visitors being super chill and friendly. Price of the session was also very reasonable at $60 for a 2hr session.

We had my grandson's birthday party there. Such a lot of fun for the kids with all the inflatable play equipment. My only complaint would be that there were a lot of kids parties and way too many children for the amount of supervisors. As much as we tried to watch our kids constantly it's not possible without help to be across the whole area they cover. A beautiful day all in all
Anne W — Google review
Had an amazing time here on my birthday and was happy with the amount of time we got for how much it cost! I would have appreciated a little more help around starting as it was my first time and I had no idea what I was getting into. Fortunately I love board sports so got the hang of it after a 3rd attempt but the people I went with struggle the whole 2hr so more teaching would have been nice! Otherwise, I had a great time and would highly recommend it ✌️
Semisi F — Google review
The price is rather cheap, especially if you manage to catch a deal via bookme.com.au outside peak hours. They have many interesting obstacles. The park is well maintained. The staff was very helpful. The rental stuff was in decent shape and it matched my size rather well.

Passions of Paradise offers a full-day tour for $195 per person, which includes free snorkeling, gear, lycra suits, lunch, glass-bottom boat tour, water slides, underwater viewing and fish feeding. The staff is attentive and provides thorough explanations throughout the day. The catamaran cruise to two reefs with fantastic visibility is enjoyable due to perfect weather conditions. Snorkelers have spotted turtles, sharks and amazing fish.
Absolutely loved our experience with Passions of Paradise! We added the beginners scuba diving into our package, and the crew members were very informative and made sure everyone one good to go and comfortable before proceeding on. From the check-in counter to the crew on the boat, everyone was very kind and provided the best service! In the water, we had 2 opportunities to snorkel in 2 different sets of reefs. They had the crew on the boat and in the water to ensure the safety of the guests. At the end of the cruise, while heading back to Cairns, they held a very informative marine and ocean presentation which was great information! Not only this was a great cruise, but they are also the last few remaining business that is family owned! Which is something I value when choosing an experience.

My husband and I are locals went out with Passions for a second time in 9 months and had THE BEST day at Milne reef. We visited Club 10 and 3 sisters and it was spectacular. The crew were outstanding. Cameron enjoyed dive with Roberto and my guide was super informative about reef species. We got a locals discount and want this local business to thrive. Highly recommended.

Offers FANTASTIC tours of the Reef for anyone wanting to explore: doesn’t matter swimming ability or experience. Decent sized boat (with shade and sun options) and tour took us to two different spots with ample snorkeling time at each. Plus the lunch served was really top-notch. Left in the AM and was back in Cairns by early dinner time. We also signed up for the Eco-Tour add-on and was treated to a fabulous time with marine biologist Ben. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and answered any and all questions. He really helped make the trip extra memorable. Cant recommend this tour enough-there are many options out of Cairns but this is the perfect choice!!

We selected Passions because they promoted eco tourism and we quickly found out we couldn’t have made a better choice. There are many other options but do not hesitate to pick Passions. We had a wonderful day on board and in the water. The crew is super helpful and friendly, they went into the water together with us to show nice spots and point at special fish. We were lucky to meet a Manta Ray with its children. Catering is excellent too. An experience to remember, thanks a lot team !

I’ve been on quite a few reef cruises over the years, but Passions of Paradise really stands out and for good reason. The crew is incredible: warm, kind, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Everything on board is super well-organised, from check-in to snorkelling or diving which honestly isn’t something you always find in Australia. The whole day felt effortless and full of good energy. The boat is comfortable, the reef spots are beautiful and you can tell the team truly cares about both their guests and the environment. I had a fantastic day and can confidently recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cairns and wanting to experience the real beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

As a tour operator ourselves, we are always extra vigilant for literally everything. Passions of Paradise offered the best experience we have seen so far, especially in Australia. We did a snorkel tour in Airlie Beach as well, and the organization was terrible. Passion of Paradise had such an amazingly relaxed vibe. The boat is really comfortable. Every single person of the staff enjoyed working there with a smile, and they have spent so much attention to every single group on the boat. The safety briefing was cool, informative and funny. The marine briefing on the way back was such a great way to make people aware of the health situation of reefs. The equipment is very professional including the wetsuits. The food is super delicious made by a chef onboard. People, don't hesitate. This is the best tour you can take in Cairns!

Passions are an excellent tour operator. Although the weather during our visit was rainy and the waves were choppy, the day tour was still superb. The crew were very professional and made sure everyone on board was well looked after, especially in the water when the waves did get very rough. Safety was of the utmost priority throughout the day. I highly recommend them and will be sure to use them again the next time I travel up north (fingers crossed the weather is better).

Frankland Islands Reef Cruises offers an opportunity to explore the Great Barrier Reef in the pristine environment around the Frankland Islands archipelago. The area includes uninhabited islands such as Normanby, High, Russel, Round and Mabel Islands. Visitors can snorkel or dive to witness giant pink-rimmed clams and a vibrant array of coral and reef fish.
We had a fantastic day cruising down the river, croc spotting then out across the ocean to the beautiful island. We saw Colourful coral, lots of fish, a sting ray, turtles and even a baby reef shark. The lunch was delicious (prawns, chicken, cheese, cold meats, salads and fruit) and the staff were friendly, fun and knowledgeable. Our little boy loved the treasure hunt! Such a great experience and not crowded with people. Thankyou so much!

The trip was amazing. Our guide Jess was very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. We were a small group of people and had the whole island just for ourselves. Overall, it was an incredible experience and I would definitely recommend it

Truely a fantastic day out. The crew friendly, very helpful and you could tell they love their job. Let's be honest when your living in Paradise there is no reason not to love your job. A wonderful day out! We had an amazing experience on this tour. The team were very caring and professional helping everyone to feel safe and comfortable with all activities. It is a small group of around 50 including staff on the entire island. It is paradise with beautiful clear water. We saw crocodiles on the River Cruise and when snorkelling we saw a variety of fish and turtles.

Frankland island was the best choice for us! If your having thoughts about which island to choose for your family with little ones - these guys can accommodate. We thought a lot about this and the popular Green island but we went with this as we wanted a more intimate experience on a private island, less crowded and safe for little ones to play and explore. We are a small family with 2 children under 6 and it was perfect! Not strong swimmers but they've snorkelled once and could easily snorkel on the beach safely and use any floating assistance if needed. We all had the best time and wish we had more even time though we had the all-inclusive package, and staff were so accommodating and experienced! You had freedom to choose your activities and try different things out.

Took the half day tour to Normanby Island today. Absolutely amazing. Small group and the trip was roughly 30 minutes to the island. The staff on the boat were so friendly and accomodating. On the island we saw Clown Fish (Nemo), colourful coral, a baby reef shark, Sea Turtles and lots of other fish. Also offered at the island is Stand up paddle boarding and Kayaking. I like the island has a huge shade cover and lots of tables. Highly recommend!

The canyoning tours are described as both challenging and manageable, making them suitable for a wide range of participants.

Our group of six booked this tour last minute around 10 a.m., after discovering there were no tickets available for the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Thankfully, Cairns Canyoning offered free pickup from Cairns City, which made everything very convenient. We were lucky to have Paige and Antons as our tour guides — both are incredibly passionate about what they do. They guided us with care and clear safety instructions, making sure we had a smooth and exciting adventure through the beautiful waterfalls. They were friendly, easy to chat with, and most importantly, highly trained and professional. Thanks to them, we had one of the best canyoning experiences ever — something we’ll remember for a lifetime. They also helped us take great photos and videos throughout the trip, tailored to our needs. Overall, this was the best group tour we had in Cairns, and every dollar spent was absolutely worth it. We loved it! It was a beautiful day at the crystal cascades with Luke and Tom! We felt safe and confident trying some crazy freestyle jumps. The river is gorgeous, and there is so much to see. Thanks for the good vibes and the memories.

I had such an incredible time canyoning today! The guides, Luke and Tom, were both absolutely fantastic; super friendly, fun, and made everyone feel at ease right away. They created a great vibe and kept the energy up throughout the whole tour. The course itself was amazing and really well put together. There was a perfect mix of challenges and fun; from jumping into the water from different heights, to sliding down natural rock slides, navigating some rapids, and even rappelling down a rock. Every part of it was exciting and kept things interesting. What I really appreciated was how encouraging the guides were when it came to facing your fears and stepping outside your comfort zone. but without ever pushing anyone too far. They created a safe space where you felt supported to try things you might not have thought you could do. The tour was also very inclusive, our group had both kids and adults, and everyone seemed to enjoy it at their own pace. I can 100% recommend this canyoning tour to anyone looking for a bit of adventure in nature. One of the highlights of my trip for sure. :)

We had a great time with Dom, Wolf, and Tom! They have an easy way about them that makes the whole day exciting and fun. Don't stress too much about choosing which tour to take - they are all good and you can't really understand the descriptions until you've done it. Go for it!

Absolutely unforgettable experience! This was hands down one of the best adventure tours I’ve ever done. Canyoning through the waterfalls near Cairns was equal parts exhilarating and beautiful — the perfect mix of adrenaline and nature. Our guides, Luke and Tom, were incredible from start to finish. Super professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun guys who made everyone feel safe and confident. Whether we were abseiling down waterfalls, sliding through natural rock chutes, or jumping into pristine pools, they had our backs and kept the energy high the whole way. The scenery was breathtaking — lush rainforest, crystal-clear water, and not a tourist crowd in sight. It felt like a hidden world. If you’re even thinking about doing this — do it. You won’t regret it. Massive thanks to Luke and Tom for making it such an epic day. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Cairns!

Absolutely amazing time! Didn't really know what to expect because I didn't book the adventure but it couldn't have been more fun! Simon and Luke were wonderful, knowledgeable and funny (and kinda cute 😉). I highly suggest this activity if you can swim and are not afraid of getting a few bruises (unavoidable, but well worth it). I even did a sticker swap at the very end with Luke. Thanks dude, you're officially on the water bottle! Tips: bring water shoes (or pay 10$ for rentals at the shop) and a rash guard. Bring snacks for the ride back because you'll be tired and hungry.

A well maintained garden area along a beautiful boardwalk with great views to the ocean , harbour, and township . Massive playback for the kids , cafes, beach volleyball, basketball, and skatepark.

Lovely path along the waterfront, really beautiful during our morning walk. All kinds of interesting birds serenading us, lush green trees, gorgeous flowers. We'll be walking along here every morning for the duration of our stay!

When in Cairns, definitely make space in your agenda to have a walk at sunset at this esplanade. It is absolutely magical at sunset, and you can see many different types of birds, such as the big pelican birds. It was definitely one of the highlights when in Cairns.

A great place to visit and use free swimming lagoon, barbecues, nice waterfront boardwalk. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars close by. There's a great kids playground with water park free to all. The beachfront is a bit ordinary when the tides out to expose the mudflats but this is a very important feeding and breeding grounds for all sorts of marine and bird life. A popular place for birdwatchers and can be good fishing when the tides in. Good prawn catches when they are running. YES, there are 🐊 Crocks about.

Fairy Falls is a hidden gem near Crystal Cascades in Cairns, Australia. It's a picturesque waterfall with crystal-clear water, located in lush woods. To reach it, take the dirt track from the top of the carpark instead of the main entrance towards Crystal Cascades. The falls are often considered a local secret and offer a beautiful spot for swimming and cooling down.
Beautiful place. How can you not give nature 5 stars?! Easy walk and didn't take 30 minutes as suggested despite stopping along the way. Refreshing swim. Would be careful when having young kids due to the current.
Yvonne — Google review
Beautiful falls. It was not very difficult to get Fairy falls unless going the wrong way. You should use your ear to catch water sounds & it's only 300m without steep climbing. When you meet a fork, take the riverside. If you are on a steep path, it means wrong way. It was good short exercise even if I went the wrong way. Less than 600m to the upper falls with a steep & slippery path. The upper one wasn't as good as the lower one, but beautiful also. The wrong way continues to somewhere, but I couldn't follow it after about 700m and turned around. Good parking & toilets.
Wataru T — Google review
It was really quite difficult to get to the top of the fairy Falls but once you are there, oh my God, it’s amazing. It is worth a hard work to get there.
Sue — Google review
Somewhat hidden, but beautiful. No maintained path, you have to climb over some stones to get there.
Christoph S — Google review
If you want made to the top, get good shoes and lot of passion. Not worthed for us, especially up there, very steep and risk of falling down, not stable trail.
Marco — Google review
Nice secluded waterfall! Access is via Crystal Cascades car park. Follow the small trail with the warning signs. 10min walk, climbing over boulders required!
Grant J — Google review
Absolutely amazing, only 2 people when partner and I went, Walk is a bit rocky
Jayde O — Google review
It is not a famous waterfall and not many people go this way. There is a notice that there are stinging trees, so be careful. I started my walk late at dusk. You need to go thorough bushes and walk / climb through tree roots. After a while you will have a steep incline to the rocky mountain. I read another website which says not to take the ride up hill but walk in the creek. But it was too dark and there were fallen trees on the creek so I gave the walk up and returned. Hope this will help someone else to reach the waterfall. My advise is to start early with good shoes but be prepared to take them off or walk in water with them if needs to. It might not be safe for young children as well.

Had a lovely day out snorkeling. The boat ride was fabulous. Saw loads of fish. Went on the morning trip just as well as when it was time to leave the tide was really low. So where we were swimming a few hours before you could only walk.

I had the best time of my life. Guys you should go once in your life in great barrier reef. You can do so many things and staff are very lovely aswell❤️
Sabita S — Google review
We had a fabulous half-day trip to Green Island. We made our booking directly at the terminal/booking office about 30 minutes before the 1pm ferry was about to depart. The booking process was easy, and details were well explained. The ferry ride over was smooth. We were booked on the 2:15pm glass bottom boat; the lady who led the tour was knowledgeable and informative. She explained the fauna well and her style was engaging. The half day tour provides enough time for a leisurely stroll around the island which takes about 30 minutes (more if you stop to look at things). Instructions throughout the tour were clear, especially reminders about returning to the ferry by 4pm in order to catch the 4:15 ferry back to Cairns. All in all, it was a well run operation, things were on time and progressed smoothly, and staff were welcoming and helpful. Our party consisted of three adults, including one person in their late 80s. The tour was comfortable for a person who doesn't walk more than 5-10mins. There is the need for some climbing of stairs. Recommended that you bring your own food to Green Island; catering options are limited to fast food or restaurant food. I'd definitely recommend Green Island Tours.
Amanda S — Google review
Having done the outer reef and green island tours I was really hoping this tour (based on reviews) was worth it. Positives: My kids (17 and 12) and I loved it. Staff were amazing, snorkelling was better than the other two tours and we saw several turtles. the lunch was great And drinks for purchase cheap. I would go again. Beautiful island, LOVED IT!!!! Negatives: The only improvement would be the transport, we were on the bus for an hour before we even left cairns for the boat which was then another hour away, we also were on the bus for 2.5 hours after the long day coming back which was a bit of a nightmare. I would recommend having a few drop off spots rather than going to every hotel. I think everyone on the bus (including the driver) would agree. A very very long day. Otherwise loved it, next time I’ll drive to the boat.

If you want to have a great day out and are in the Cairns area, I highly recommend this. The full day trip to Green Island is awesome! I paid extra for the lunch buffet, and it was good. I also added the seni submersible to the package, and it is worth the extra money. It was my second time going and won't be my last. I rate at 5/5 ⭐️
Michael W — Google review
Unfortunately there was a note when we arrived that the tide was very low for snorkelling. Wasn't a good day for snorkelling which is very disappointing with children. There should be a choice to choose another day when the tide is low. The glass bottom tour was a great experience.

We made the tour to green island and snorkeling at the pontoon. This was fantastic and we had a lot of fun. Excellent organized. But the start of the tour wasn't good. We had a reservation but had to get the blue ticket at the counter where all tried to get a ticket. This can be much better organized. The crew was very friendly and helped wherever they could.

Guests can enjoy sunset cocktails overlooking Trinity Inlet from day beds or opt for a table to savor an array of seafood options or meats cooked on their Argentinian grill.
Salt house was in a great location. Smart and sophisticated. The service was exceptional and the food delish. We loved the entrees mushroom tart, olives that were so juicy, watermelon salad ( divine). The vegan paella was very generous. The fish my son had was delish. Thanks so much Salt house xx

Nice seafront view. Well-spaced seatings. Seafood are fresh and food is well-seasoned. Nice variety of options in the menu. Service can be better. I ordered coffee after my meal and the staff seems to have forgotten so I had to remind them. Coffee was not good, better get somewhere else.
Mel R — Google review
The food was delicious; you can tell they use top-quality ingredients. The ceviche was amazing and the wagyu skewers were really good. However, the sashimi and the beef tataki seemed a bit overcooked to me. The king prawns were flavourless and ultra hot. My overall opinion is that they put a lot of effort into making everything so ostentatious, when I strongly believe sometimes less is more. Not to mention the high prices considering the tiny portions. Service was really good, it just seemed a bit strange they don't leave the wine bottle and water bottle at the table.

Salt House was the perfect ending to our holiday in Cairns and an amazing spot to celebrate my partner’s birthday. The atmosphere is just beautiful — relaxed yet refined, with the perfect vibe for a special evening. Our server, Marcus, was exceptional — friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly looked after. The food was incredible from start to finish. We started with the ceviche and beef skewers — both bursting with flavour — and then shared the 1.0 kg steak cooked perfectly to medium (exactly how we like it!). Every bite was spot on. Unfortunately, we had to leave earlier than planned and missed out on dessert, which we were really sad about — but that just gives us a reason to come back! Overall, Salt House exceeded our expectations. The pricing felt fair for a fine dining restaurant of this quality. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Cairns — especially for a special occasion.

We had a wonderful experience at Salt House Cairns. The place is absolutely beautiful, with stunning spaces and an amazing atmosphere. The service was excellent — the staff were so kind and attentive. They were our partners in making my partner’s birthday celebration truly special. We spent an afternoon lounging here, and then had dinner. There is loads of space and we found a comfortable spot to drink cocktails, read a book, talk, look at people. We really enjoyed the big seafood platter. In the past we've found these can have too much fried food, but this was a good mixture of warm and cold and different cooking methods. Good wines as well. Staff all friendly.
Koen A — Google review
We met up with friends who are locals here. We got a very nice sunset view when we arrived. It seem pretty busy but we had a reservation so we got seated right away. This place is big! I like the vibes. It’s modern, fun and on the water. We were sure what to order so we ordered seven appetizers for four of us to share. It was the right amount of food. We had Reef Fish Ceviche, Fried Calamari, Mooloolaba Tuna, Beef Tataki, wood-fired sardines, Queensland scallops and prawns. I liked everything except sardines. There’s tingling numbing after taste. We asked the chef about it but they couldn’t pinpoint what ingredient would give you that numbing taste. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall, my first visit was pleasant.
Bonnie Y — Google review
We came for dinner and had an excellent time! Our server was lovely and the cocktails were very good. We enjoyed the tuna as an appetizer, and for mains the whole fish was good. The portions are quite large (which our server thankfully let us know before we ordered) so I recommend sharing! The overall atmosphere was nice, it is definitely on the fancier side and you do have a nice view of the harbor. In the evening they play music which can be loud but overall we had a great time!

Great atmosphere and good fun. Menu was small just prawns, bugs and oysters. Drink list also small. $130 seafood platter is good for 2-3 person. All the seafood was very fresh and yummy. If they could just provide some hot dishes like pastas. It would have been perfect.
FS — Google review
What a great restaurant. It's actually hard to call it that because it's composed of three boats but it's a perfect venue for eating seafood. The marina setting was lovely, especially as the sun started to set. We sat at a communal table as the hostess we spoke to was able to fit us in there given we had no reservation, but more private options are available. I would suggest that a booking is fairly vital. One of the boats houses the open kitchen and I always like to see open kitchens. The staff were lovely and looked after us well. The seafood was absolutely stellar! We had the jumbo platter and it was excellent and great value. Fresh oysters, prawns, bugs and salmon, what could be better? While there we spoke to a couple of locals who were eating there and they all agreed it was the best local seafood. There's nothing like a local recommendation... Well be back in Cairns soon and I think we'll be visiting again before we leave. Cheers and enjoy
Brent H — Google review
Great spot for fish lovers! For a food chain, this place is really good! We got the platter for two to share — the oysters were fine, nothing special, but the shrimps were really good. The portions were generous and the price was quite fair, especially considering you’re eating fresh seafood. Highly recommended if you’re around Cairns and not sure where to go for fish.
Tommaso B — Google review
Ordered the smaller seafood platter for 2. The oysters and sashimi are fresh. The prawns seem like mixed with some smaller prawns and medium size prawns. Would have been better if they are all tiger prawns. Overall is nice and ambience is good. The staff are really friendly and cheerful. A good experience if you are in Cairns and this is also the only such restaurant operating in the boats. Recommended 😊
Wendy C — Google review
I didn’t eat here but am reviewing them because these little boats are very darling and I wanted to give them a shout out for being accommodating. I’m solo in Cairns and they were welcoming and offered to tailor their platters which are set for two, for me. Their willingness to adapt their menu was refreshing!
Paulina C — Google review
We shared a plate of bugs and a plate of mixed prawns between 2. Each plate had 800g. The bugs were generally good. Some of them were a little soggy. The prawns were below par. A bit smelly and very soft. A lady next to us had tiger prawns and they looked better. The seafood cocktail sauce was very nice though and the boat concept is great. You sit at a communal table and it encourages people to chat to strangers which was a nice change.

Barron Falls is a stunning 250-meter waterfall located in Barron Gorge National Park, North Queensland. Visitors can take a scenic trail to reach lookout points offering breathtaking views of the cascading waters from the Barron River. The area is part of the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, providing an enchanting experience for nature enthusiasts.
Barron Falls – Absolutely Majestic! Arriving at the Barron Falls lookout after the scenic train journey was a truly awe-inspiring experience. The anticipation built during the winding ascent through the rainforest, and then, suddenly, you're presented with this powerful and breathtaking natural wonder. Even from the viewing platforms, the sheer scale and force of the water cascading down the Barron Gorge is immense. The mist rising from the base creates a dramatic atmosphere, and the roar of the falls is something you can feel as much as hear. It’s a fantastic reward after the scenic railway trip. The different viewing areas offer varied perspectives, allowing you to appreciate the falls from multiple angles. The signage provides helpful information about the geology and ecology of the area, adding another layer of appreciation to the experience. The brief stop here as part of the Kuranda Scenic Railway journey is perfectly timed to allow for some fantastic photo opportunities and a chance to truly soak in the natural beauty. It’s a stark reminder of the raw power of nature and a definite highlight of the entire Kuranda experience. Whether you visit during the wet season when the falls are at their peak flow or during a drier period when you can see more of the rock formations, Barron Falls is a must-see. The accessibility provided by the Kuranda Scenic Railway makes it an easy and unforgettable addition to any Cairns itinerary. Don't forget your camera – you'll want to capture this incredible sight!

Walked around Mossman Gorge. The rainforest circuit track took about an hour. It is not wheelchair or pram friendly or for people that cannot walk up hill over rocks and on uneven surfaces. However, there is a shorter walk with a path and suspension bridge that is easier for all.

Absolutely stunning place. Would recommend for anyone and everyone to visit in their lifetime. It’s a great walk but is also accessible to everyone regardless of physical ability.

Two views, one unforgettable waterfall! We saw Barron Falls twice — first from the Kuranda Scenic Railway, then later from the Skyrail Cableway — and both were absolutely stunning in their own way. From the train, you get a dramatic, close-up view of the falls thundering through the gorge. On the way down with the Skyrail, the panorama opens up, and you see the full scale of the landscape from above. Two totally different experiences — both breathtaking! Don’t miss the boardwalk lookout stops. This waterfall is a true highlight.

The waterfall is beautiful. The walk to the viewpoint is easy and takes about 10 to 15 minutes. If you have a drone, you can take great pictures, as drones weighing less than 250 grams are permitted in that area.

Great cafe and nice food, the staff’s a bit “reserved” but some of them friendly. The location is by the sea, windy, colorful and lots of places for kids to entertain themselves. Parking is a bit tricky but you can find some spots on the street, some of them for 2 hours free and other sides with 3 hours. Lots of birds around and make sure you don’t feed them as it might attract more around you. Walk path for runners and bike riders as well.

I visited on a Friday afternoon with friends. The drinks were great with fresh fruit and vegetables as well as smoothies. Later we bought 3 meals too which were all very well cooked and tasty. This is one of Cairns’s surprise little gems. One of our favourite breakfast spots. Open for a VERY (6am) early morning coffee and or breakout. Can be very very busy quick service is the standard especially if you order through the QR code on the table. Whilst not immune to staff shortages from backpackers having had a big night and calling in sick, I have never experienced any problems. Good size meals at better than average prices.

With over 180 stalls offering a wide variety of goods including fresh produce, apparel, gifts, and flowers, it's a great stop for budget-conscious travelers.
Most of tropical fruits and vegetables are available. Friday is the best day for buying fresh fruits and vegetables. Worth to visit. They got good Vietnam’s coffee and different smoothies and fresh fruit juice. Worth to try the coconut shell fruit salad.

It’s a pretty small but cute market. The main deal is fresh vegetables and fruits that look amazing. There are a couple of stands for vintage objects and books and then food such as Thai, Korean, Indian, etc. It’s definitely worth it to go and have a look but don’t expect anything huge. You can look at everything in 20 minutes.

I’ve always loved Rusty’s Markets it’s been part of our family’s weekends for as long as I can remember. Lately it’s really evolved into a must do every Sunday for our kids. The fresh produce has always been phenomenal, and we love all the new stalls and eateries that now make it the perfect spot for brunch. If you haven’t been recently, it’s definitely worth another visit!

Excellent selection of fruit and vegetable market as well as great food stalls. Top source for tropical fruit etc. Busy, bustling, full of atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. Parking on the street side could be difficult. Metered too.

What a very busy place, I highly recommend if you don't like crowds, go very early and parking would be easier then. There are multiple stalls, selling the same thing, clothes, jewellery and food. If you like my reviews please follow us around Australia 🇦🇺.
Karen D — Google review
Walked over at 7am on a Sunday morning - some places in the market were not open yet. There was so much fresh produce- fruits and veggies - farm fresh and priced were very reasonable.
J. M — Google review
Great variety of fruit and vegies available in this market , price is quite reasonable. Market is crowded with a lot of stalls and food choices . Food however did not come up to our expectation and quite pricey.
Mia D — Google review
This market is a nice place to buy fruit, and the pre-cut mango was sweet and delicious. However, there isn’t really a proper place to sit and eat inside, and most stalls sell the exact same fruits at similar prices, which was a bit disappointing. It’s worth a visit if you have plenty of time, but I wouldn’t call it a must-see.

Lovely beach, quiet and with some spectacular views

Nice views, although greatly impacted by the 23/24 floods. I wouldn't swim here - crocodiles spotted too frequently. There are playgrounds at either end. We prefer the south end.
Kayleigh Q — Google review
Yorkeys knob beach foreshore is great plenty of parking, bbq areas, taps with hoses to wash your dogs, limited tables and chairs near bbqs, a hop skip and jump to the beach. Plenty of people walking there dogs or otherwise enjoying the beach and the breeze.
Benjamin S — Google review
Gorgeous seaside spot with a nice footpath, couple of restaurants, outdoor bbqs, picnic tables, toilets, and stinger nets. Not super touristy so it's a nice change of pace. Dogs are allowed on the beach ⛱️. Views of double island.

My favourite beach to take the dog too, see the same friendly faces and it’s even better at sunrise.

The 80-hectare reserve features a boardwalk through the Feather Palm Forest, providing an opportunity to observe the region's unique flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy facilities such as picnic areas, BBQs, bird hides, and toilets.
Very nice place. Nice and secluded, great shady walking track with plenty of parking spots and a public toilet which is clean! You will encounter plenty of wild life from bush turkeys to blue tongue lizards. Be careful if snakes and of course crocodiles which there are warnings for. Stay on the designated walking tracks and you will enjoy your day. No swimming allowed.
Justin — Google review
What a beautiful, pristine area. It's in a good, secluded location (away from traffic and noise), it is always very well maintained and the paths make it accessible for anyone. There's a lot of wildlife to be seen here. There are crocodiles living peacefully in the water so don't venture too close to the edge of the water. If you have binoculars, bring them along to see the birdlife - best found in the morning! We're blessed to have this beautiful place here.
Michael — Google review
Wish we had more time to sit here as there are bird watching blinds. It's much nicer than I expected and walks are all easy and flat graded. My son even found a snake skin.
Jared — Google review
Beautiful wetland environment, lots of birds and lots of mosquitoes, take repellent or you’ll get attacked. Palm forest boardwalk is well worth a visit. Tracks are mostly paved so pram and wheelchair friendly.
Nimzee N — Google review
Really beautiful wetland location, and an absolute must for birders visiting Cairns. It's broken into two main types of wetland: well-maintained tourist friendly walks around the major lakes. These routes allow you to see most of the major water birds (pygmy geese, spoonbills, jacanas, etc), but don't have all that much else. Facilities along this route are great. There a bird huts, picnic tables, toilets, plenty of chairs overlooking the lakes, and several places to drink and refill water bottles. There is also a less easily walked set of paths (easily accessible from the main paths or from the main road that runs alongside the wetlands) that go through other parts of the wetland including the Fairy Wren Billabong, through woods and shrubby areas. These paths are not always not well maintained, and at times are more like animal tracks than human paths (prepare to be pushing through branches). Here you're more likely to see birds like orioles, pheasant coucals, lovely fairy wrens and others. Note that some of these paths will take you very close to the creek which is fairly stagnant and when I went had a truly Amazonian number of mosquitos. Insect repellent isn't just recommended, you might get sucked dry without it. It's only easily accessible by car. It does have a large car-park directly out front, but if you're not driving there's not even a footpath that'll take you to the entrance. Depending on where you're coming from it will be anything from a 15-40 minute walk to get to the wetlands from the nearest bus. As an aside, the council really needs to get their act together and station a ranger at this location for a while. I visited twice in November and during those visits I encountered both people fishing (not just disruptive to wildlife and against the signed rules of the place, but extremely dangerous as I have it on good authority from a local that there are fairly regularly crocodiles found in the lakes and close proximity to the water's edge is just a really bad idea), and astonishingly someone taking a joyride on a dirtbike along the paths. The individual on the dirtbike had torn right through the middle of prime bird habitat and left quite a bit of damage.

Cat empire played 2025 Great venue with plenty of space to chill or dance The landscaping is top notch. The entrance has good amount of space to comfortably and quickly enter and exit, with side gates that open on exit. Toilet were only issue, line ups were confusing and took ages because the portaloos were squeezed into the back with half of what was needed.

Visitors can enjoy high-adrenaline activities with provided safety equipment and guides for a thrilling experience amidst the natural beauty of the park.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stunning Natural Beauty at Barron Gorge! Barron Gorge in Kuranda is absolutely breathtaking! We’ve been there twice now, and it’s just as impressive each time. The combination of lush rainforest, rugged cliffs, and the powerful Barron Falls makes this place a must-visit for anyone exploring Far North Queensland. The lookout points provide spectacular views, especially after heavy rain when the falls are at their most powerful. The boardwalks and viewing platforms are well-maintained, making it easy to enjoy the scenery. The Skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway offer incredible perspectives of the gorge, and driving up to the lookout is a great option too. We love how peaceful and untouched the area feels, despite being a popular attraction. The surrounding rainforest is full of wildlife, and the sounds of nature add to the experience. Both times we visited, we were blown away by how majestic it all looked. If you’re in the Cairns or Kuranda area, Barron Gorge is definitely worth the trip. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or just someone looking for a beautiful place to visit, this spot has it all. We’ll definitely be back again!

A fantastic place to take your dog for a walk and a swim on hot days - plenty of shade and plenty of space, easily the best off-lead park for dogs in the Cairns area! Great for us humans too, the river is beautiful - nice clear water, plenty of facilities and abundant bird life too!

The atmosphere is remarkably serene, making it an ideal setting for children to have fun. The pristine river that meanders through the heart of the area offers plenty of space for children to swim and play. It is worth noting that parking availability might be limited on weekends, so arriving early is advisable.

A lovely public park. Big open areas for on- and off- leash dog play. Plus walking tacks through rainforest and a river. There are also several picnic benches and other seating areas around the park, and a kids play area. Bring bug spray- some mozzies in the bushes.

A piece of paradise at only 9 kilometres from Cairns City Centre. 🌴 I often go chill in the water early in the morning and almost always have the place to myself for hours, not counting the dog walkers. It's especially heavenly in summer, when it's just too hot at the beach, where shade is hard to find and the water gets a tad p¡ss warm. 😄 It gets a bit busy and noisy at 🕒 and on the weekends, but I'm very happy to share this GORGEOUS place. 💚

Highly recommend bringing your dog here. Many different spots for your dog to swim. Shallow and deep. Water is crystal clear. Beautiful spot to swim aswell. Nice and cold but refreshing! I came mid morning during a week day and found it not to busy. Most the dogs are friendly or well trained. I kept ours on a lead as he is still a pup and had no issues. For anyone wanting to know.. there is no crocs here. Just a few small fish in the deeper spots.

The changing rooms are spacious and well-maintained, and there's also a cafe where you can grab some food and coffee after your swim.
This is a great place to come and do some swimming and training. There is a very good training pool, wave body surfing pool and also a children's area. They have a jumping castle area as well which the kids love. It is just over $7 per day which makes it very affordable where is food for sale and also plenty of shelter.

The Tobruk memorial pool was a great activity on the weekend especially in summer when it was hot and humid. The pool was clean and the area around the pool looked good aswell. David B — Google review
Unacceptable. To think it's 2025 and I can't feel safe to take my child to the pool. I walked my son into the bathrooms to let him wash the chlorine off before going home and a disgusting older man extend the shower stall opposite the entrance completely naked. When I noticed and gave a disgusted look he looks at me and my son touched himself and smiled. I had to cover my son's eyes and when I walked him to his own stall the older man had the gall to laugh at me when he passed. Absolutely disgusting and despicable behaviour being allowed at the pool. I myself felt violated I can imagine how embarrassed my son was. I will never be going back to this pool and I advise others to at the very least choose not to use the bathrooms.

Discover artisanal food products like locally made chocolate and tropical fruit liqueurs, as well as vanilla and tea from the Daintree.
Go to the yellow night market massage place. I was skeptical at first, but a local recommended this spot—and I’m so glad they did. Despite being right in the middle of the night markets, it was surprisingly quiet and tucked into a semi-private area. We got a 30-minute neck, shoulder, and back massage for $30, and it was absolutely incredible. Super relaxing, with really skilled staff. Easily one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Left feeling so refreshed and happy!

I liked it here as I am a fan of night markets. Open until 2300 which is perfect and the food court wasn't too bad. Lots and lots of souvenirs with a variety of products such as magnets, snacks, shirts, hats, jewelry and more. Very crowded on a Friday evening, but on the days before it was a bit more calm. Absolutely worth the trip when visiting Cairns!
Vinny F — Google review
The night market offers a wide variety of stores to buy souvenirs , massage , clothes , jewelry etc and a food court. The food in the food court was too greasy for my taste and nothing special ; only highlight was we tried the crepe shop and it was delicious. 🤤
Mia D — Google review
The vibe around Cairns Night Market didn’t feel great — lots of dodgy people nearby, some possibly on drugs. Several gift shops had rude or pushy staff, which made shopping unpleasant. Prices were a bit cheaper, but not worth the poor experience. The food stalls were the only highlight.

Shaniya P — Google review
Absolutely do not go to that seafood shop! They have prices for the small, medium, and large boxes — we bought the large one for $19.60, and the food was horrifying! The prawns were way too salty, the mussels were overly sweet — it’s obvious they were not fresh at all, and the heavy seasoning was just to cover up the staleness. On top of that, the carrots in the fried rice were burnt, and even the prawn crackers were over-fried. The owner’s face looked like I owed her two million dollars. Do not recommend!
Jimmy — Google review
Lovely this place at night time. Lots of small booth style stalls opened after a long time now. I like the food here, tasty and good value. Of course, you can select all the dishes if you can. The staff at Great Adventures are known for their friendliness and professionalism, providing assistance throughout the journey.
I had an amazing day with Great Adventures on the Green Island day trip! The boat ride was smooth and comfortable, and the crew was friendly and knowledgeable. Once on the island, the snorkelling was spectacular — vibrant coral and abundant marine life everywhere. The island itself is beautiful, with plenty of shaded spots and great facilities. Highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting Cairns!

Our Outer Reef tour was the highlight of our 2-week trip to Australia! If you want to truly experience the Great Barrier Reef, this is an authentic experience. It was a 2-hour boat ride from Cairns--past the crowded Green Island--to Michaelmas Cay, a small, sandy seabird nesting area in the middle of the ocean. The tour includes breakfast items, talks on snorkeling safety and the reef, lunch, a ride on a semi-submersible to view the reef (very cool), and all snorkeling equipment. We added a small-group (no more than 4), guided tour of the reef which was very affordable and worth every penny! We explained to our guide, Will, that my husband hadn't liked snorkeled before, but I was capable at it. He handled our tour beautifully. For the tour, we held onto a buoy and Will showed us around the reef, stopping to explain what we were seeing or to answer our questions. He pointed out so many things we would have missed! He dove down to show us how a giant clam closes if it detects something overhead. We also saw a sea turtle; a stingray; a symbiotic fish encounter; magnificent coral; a sea cucumber (that he picked up for us to touch and he explained their importance to reef health); and so much more! We went out much further and explored much more of the reef than we would have been able to do alone. I would HIGHLY recommend opting for the small-group guide on this tour. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you should make the most of your time. Even my husband thought it was the best!

We did the Green island adventure which we could not fault. Majority of staff were pleasant and helpful. Ours included snorkel equipment which you collect from kiosk at Green Island. Stoney Creek Falls is a stunning waterfall located in the Barron Gorge National Park, just 8km from Cairns. It offers a serene escape surrounded by lush rainforests and is a popular spot for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can take a refreshing swim in the pristine waters or explore the various swimming holes along Stoney Creek, including Old Weir Falls. The falls are easily accessible from the carpark via a footpath and bridge, making it an ideal day trip from Cairns.
It's a small waterfall compared to the Barron Falls, but still an amazing view. Fascinating to see from the scenic railway, as the train bridges over the falls on an extremely tight curve, which allows views of the waterfall, as well as a view of Barron Gorge on the other side, and a view back along the train as it crosses the bridge. Definitely worth seeing for yourself.
Zaxonius — Google review
At last we made to the bridge and the falls through the 'Stoney Creek Trail', missed the train as we spent too much time playing in these rock pools along the trail, only heard it sounding down the hill when we still like a few hundred metres away...otherwise, a fantastic walk all the way through the rain forest along the creek.
Alan X — Google review
Nice spot if you are in the area already. I would not come here just to visit it. The bridge is closed, but you can walk past under it easily, nice little water hole for a dip near the waterfall. There is short walk in the bushes, I didn’t go there though

Amazing shot to have a dip on a hot day. Great hike to the bottom of the falls from the car park.
Istvan K — Google review
Hiked here from stones creek car park. Very challenging at times with some very steep climbs up rock faces. The first time I tried to do it I got lost following the orange tags and ended up on the side of a cliff. So the second time I just followed the creek right up and I reached the falls. It’s also a beautiful swim underneath which is refreshing after a hard hike.

Was planning to head up to the hill. But we didn’t expect the way is that bumpy so we don’t have any proper gears with us. We decided to just stay in the the middle way for the water falls. The little on in between it looks boring but when you dived under. There is so many little shrimps and a turtle! The shrimps were all along the rock that was amazing!!!!!!

The trail is odd at first, with lots of rocks along the path. But it doesn't last long that way. There are tons of pools along the river to go swimming it, allowing people to be spread out. We followed the path until it ended, then continued along the river. The water level was so low that we could walk on the river most of the way until we got to the train bridge near the big falls. A bit of scrambling and bouldering was required, so I do not recommend this option if you are alone or have no rock climbing experience, or if the water levels are higher. There were mango trees dropping delicious mangoes along the way as well.

Wow just wow. Although the rafting was something else, the experience was made spectacular by our guide Jesse. He had sound knowledge of the River and made it super fun. Can not recommend this experience enough. Bravo.

Awesome rafting down Barron River with guide Andy. Lovely day, clear waters and slip sliding over level 3 rapids. Well worthh it and recommended!

Amazing experience! Highly recommend for anyone that loves water activities or is an adrenalin junkie. I had K and they were great, made the experience incredibly enjoyable. P.s. you don't have to be a strong swimmer in order to partake in the activity. Plenty of safety precautions are taken by the crew both on the boat and on the rocks alongside the river.
