Park
Nature & Parks
People's Park, also known as Renmin Park, is a beloved urban oasis in the heart of Chengdu. This more than 100-year-old park offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, shaded pathways, and vibrant greenery. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll or relax at the waterside cafe while taking in the tranquil surroundings.
If you ever find yourself in Chengdu and feel like taking a breather, you’ve got to check out this park right in the middle of the city. It’s huge — honestly, I’m not even sure if I managed to walk through the whole thing! But every step I took felt full of life. People were everywhere, just living their best lives — chatting, chilling, taking slow walks, working out, even dancing in little groups. Some were doing aerobics, and some were just having fun dancing together. It was such a happy vibe. The park itself is full of little surprises: a peaceful Chinese-style pavilion, a big sparkling pond, gentle hills, colorful gardens, and stunning sculptures scattered all around. But one of the real highlights? The tea house. This isn’t just any tea house — it's famous for its incredible tea-pouring shows! I was absolutely amazed watching the tea masters at work. They don’t just serve tea — they turn it into a full-on performance. With long-spouted teapots, they twirl, spin, and pour tea from what feels like impossible angles, all with such grace and precision. It’s like watching a dance, but with tea! Honestly, I could have sat there all day just sipping tea and watching the magic happen. If you’re ever in Chengdu, make sure to carve out a morning for this park. You’ll get a real taste of local life and a front-row seat to some unforgettable tea artistry. 🌿🍵✨

This park is such a lively spot where you see all sorts of things happening. Local folks hang out and relax, while some play cards, mahjong, or dance. There’s a small market area where people sell snacks and other goods, plus there’s a spot for kayaking. There’s also a really unique “offline Tinder” section, where you can see handwritten profiles of people looking for partners, a pretty fascinating thing to see. Outside the park, there are plenty of street vendors too. It’s definitely an interesting place to stroll around and see how the locals spend their time.

We spent 10 days in Chengdu as part of a international delegation showcasing basketry at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival. As such we had not much time to explore the city at all but on our last morning, before our transfers back to the airport we wanted to go out and spend some time in a "green" area. The Peoples park looked interesting and close to a subway station so we choose this one. It was a very hot day and as soon as we entered one of the lovely paved walkways the temperature dropped a few degrees. As "western" people we loved the way the whole park is centered around the big lake but also offers shaded bamboo groves, and even a wonderful Bonsai Garden. There were plenty of stalls to buy a refreshment and even tea gardens. There is also a kind of "marriage" grove were people can pin their classified ads on fences with their details and hope for love. Rather fascinating. We spent about 2 hours there and loved every minute.
Flaxworx — Google review
Great place to walk and people watch. The park itself is beautiful, bustling with activities of all sorts; various performances, old people dancing, boating at the lake, etc.. The tea house was packed and unfortunately, we couldn't find a table so we just explored other areas. It was interesting to see the area where they post personal details on boards of men and women looking for a partner. Our guide translated some of them and the details include things like annual salaries, their properties, cars and some even have pictures on them. To be fair, according to our guide, most of the details are posted by the parents without the knowledge of their children 😀

This is a refreshing urban green space and a key hub for local social life. The park features peaceful Chinese-style pavilion, a large sparkling pond, gentle hills, colorful gardens, and sculptures. The Local Scene: Locals gather here daily to socialize and relax, enjoying tea, or even participating in group exercises, including line dancing and choreographed performances, contributing to the park's lively, bustling atmosphere. Major Highlight: Heming Teahouse The Heming Teahouse is essential for experiencing local, slow-paced tea culture. For an extra cost, visitors can watch the tea-pouring shows, where tea masters skillfully pour tea using long-spouted teapots from impressive angles. It's an one of its kind cultural demonstration. Spoiler alert: Hidden Gem: The Chengdu No.1 Air-Raid Shelter This is a hidden gem that often overlooked by most. This historical war museum originally built for civil defense, the shelter maintains a consistent 25°C year-round, making it a quiet and cool place to learn about wartime history. Accessibility: The park is easily accessible via People's Park Station on Line 2. Turn RIGHT at Exit B; the North Entrance is just a short walk away.
Jo L — Google review
Beautiful and living parc, you can see dances, playing people or just some parents looking after someone for their child, by marital ads. I'd recommend to test a tea house there, we were quite lucky to see different dancers in a show.
Fabrice G — Google review
Very large parks with 2 tea house. Would recommend getting a long spout tea dance at one of the tea house. Tasty tea and a fun little show. The park was very busy when we visited, so maybe not as relaxing as it could be. But worth a visit

We came in the evening and it was raining. The lanterns looked very pretty. There were a few street sellers selling tea and other snacks.

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a renowned conservation facility that offers visitors the chance to observe giant pandas and other endangered animals. Situated about 10 kilometers from downtown Chengdu, this base covers approximately 247 acres and serves as a scientific research and breeding center, public education site, and educational tourism destination. It is dedicated to the protection and breeding of endangered Chinese wildlife such as giant pandas and red pandas. Visitors can also opt for a panda volunteering experience at the center.
This place is super impressive and super clean. Go on off season when it's not so crowded. Also know that during the summer it would be hot and the pandas will be in the indoor closures. I suggest going during the cooler season because you can see the pandas in the outdoor in the Villa areas of the park. Do know that the DD taxi drop off location is a little far from the entrance and about a 10-minute walk up a small hill. The bathroom by this location is extremely clean. That was. I was so pleasantly surprised. There's plenty of trash bins and you can get a really good sense that people really care about working there and taking care of the pandas. I highly recommend going here and making it the number one spot for your trip to tend to
Justin X — Google review
amazing experience. We got to see the pandas and their babies. Unfortunately only for a small amount of time since it got hot pretty soon and pandas don't like hot temperatures. So I recommend you going there when the weather is a bit cooler. Prepare to go early in the morning. Pandas will be out for some time before they go to sleep. We arrived around 10:30 am and most of the pandas were already sleepy. It was also interesting to see the red pandas.
R S — Google review
The Panda Breeding Center in Chengdu, China is one of the most heartwarming and unique places I’ve ever visited. It’s not just a zoo — it’s a research and conservation center where you can see giant pandas being cared for, bred, and protected in a natural, peaceful environment. The moment you enter, the atmosphere feels calm and green, surrounded by bamboo forests and clean walking paths. The pandas are the real stars here — you can see them eating bamboo, climbing trees, and even rolling around lazily. Watching baby pandas playing together is the most adorable sight imaginable!
Madan A — Google review
Absolutely incredible l. It was everything I dreamed of and more. World class zoo type place. Heaps of enclosures for different weather, full of natural elements for the animals. Stunning grounds full of beautiful forests and gardens. Amenities everywhere to meet a wide range of needs. Excellent food options, interpreter options, shuttle buses and exhibits. Had perfect cool weather, animals were very active.
Elliot P — Google review
The universe doesn’t need more proof of perfection, but here it is. Pandas eating, sleeping, and occasionally rolling downhill like fuzzy boulders. Red pandas sneaking around trees, also eating because clearly that’s a species-wide policy. And the humans? We join the cult willingly, buying panda-shaped ice cream, panda hats, panda buns. It’s not a zoo, it’s a black-and-white lifestyle brand. Even the trash bins have ears. Everywhere you look, someone’s smiling, someone’s taking 200 identical photos, and a panda’s chewing like a philosopher who’s found peace in carbohydrates. The air smells of bamboo and faint existential joy. 5/5. You don’t visit Chengdu Panda Base. You surrender to it.
Wade W — Google review
We only saw a small part of the big 25Hectare site as our hosts (the city of Chengdu as part of the UNESCO Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage) treated us to this wonderful morning visit there. However, we did see several panda, mostly juvenile and the museum and loved both. We did not go through the main entrance so I cant comment on that but we did have a English speaking guide. If I ever go back to Chengdu (maybe) I'd love to spend a whole day there as they also have Red Panda which I love:-) This was in June so not sure if that is considered shoulder season. We were told that the wait at the most famous panda He Hua was 3 hours on the day we were there, so I guess it can get very busy there.
Flaxworx — Google review
The Panda Research Base in Chengdu is an absolute must-see. After all, who wouldn't want to watch adorable pandas munching on bamboo and being clumsy and adorable? It's conveniently located just outside the city center and has a very affordable entry fee. My only recommendation is to do a little research beforehand; the base is huge, so knowing where you want to go will help you avoid getting lost and make the most of your time
Malek R — Google review
⸻ A visit to this center is a must when in Chengdu. The giant pandas are absolutely adorable and a joy to watch. The facility is home to over 200 pandas, housed in spacious open enclosures that closely mimic their natural habitat. We visited on a particularly hot day, and since the center is quite large and requires a lot of walking, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes, bring an umbrella, and carry plenty of water. It’s a wonderful experience, especially for animal lovers and families.

Heming Tea House is a popular spot in Chengdu, known for its diverse crowd and relaxed atmosphere. In this city, tea culture is unpretentious and focuses on creating an inviting environment for conversation and relaxation. Locals often spend hours here chatting or playing games like mahjong while enjoying sunflower seeds. This leisurely pace of life reflects the spirit of Chengdu, where slow living is highly valued.
THE tea garden of Chengdu. Not the most beautiful, but the largest, with a long history and a vibrant tea garden culture going on. Either grab a table or ask other guests to join their table, buy a cup of tea (free hot water refills) and immerse in the scenery of mahjong players, artists and vendors.
Daniel D — Google review
Visited People's Park in Chengdu today, and decided to drop into their infamous Heming Tea House. It was overwhelmingly crowded, hot and noisy. I managed to find a seat, sat down and waited...and waited. For about 10 minutes, there was no service. I was about to walk off when a waitress noticed me, and showed me the menu of the different types of tea. I placed my order, unsure of what I have ordered. Suddenly, this guy appeared with something looking like teapot with a long spout. He started doing all this fanciful moves, pausing to dispense a few squirts of some liquid onto my teacup. It was tea!! A good tea at that. Nevertheless, apart from good cup of tea, the place was hot, noisy, crowded, and as someone mentioned, full of smokers. I was disappointed to say the least, and won't recommend it.
Chak N — Google review
This tea house is adjoining the boating lake in the middle of People’s Park in Chengdu. If you’re looking for peace and tranquil enjoyment, then try one of the other tea houses. If you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of life and people watch, this is your spot It’s big and busy. Grab a table and a server will arrive to take your tea order. Prepare to be entertained by tea pourers decanting tea from long spouted tea containers. There are various food outlets if you fancy food too
Yee O — Google review
Came here ‘cause both ChatGPT and 小红书 said it’s a must for Chengdu tea culture 🍵 Located inside 人民公园 (People’s Park), this place is super authentic — mostly filled with Chengdu folks chatting, having their meals, or simply chilling. You barely see tourists even though it’s gone viral online, which makes it feel extra authentic. I couldn’t decide which tea to get so I ordered three to try 😅 — tea is refillable, and you can pay extra for the tea-pouring performance, which is totally worth seeing once. Overall, a relaxing and very Chengdu experience, with that slow, old-school charm the city is known for. I’d recommend coming earlier in the day, even though they open till late, since seats fill up fast. Perfect spot to sit back, sip tea, and people-watch 🌿
Edwin G — Google review
This century-old teahouse is a must-visit cultural landmark, situated inside 人民公园 (People’s Park). It truly embodies the characteristics of a traditional Sichuan teahouse: vibrant atmosphere, featuring classic square tables and bamboo chairs, and it's crowded with locals who gather here to chat, eat, and simply chill. This is the perfect place to experience the authentic slow, relaxed pace of life of the Chengdu people. They are famous for their traditional gaiwan tea (covered teacups), which is very affordable, ranging from CNY ¥18 to ¥58 per person and is refillable. For a bit of flair, you can watch the incredible tea-pouring performance, where a performer decants tea using a long-spouted teapot. You can choose either Jasmine Tea or Green Tea for this service, which costs ¥55 to ¥65 per person. Pro Tip: Try the set meal from Zhong Dumplings (钟水饺) (just ask the staff for the ordering) that includes small portions of various famous Chengdu delicacies. It's a fantastic tasting platter, just the right size for 2 to 3 people to share. Logistics & Caveats: We arrived around 9 am on a Sunday and found plenty of open seats, but the teahouse was almost completely full by 10 am, so go early! If you want a seat by the lake, go even earlier. The downsides: 1. The staff can be quite persistent in trying to hard sell you on the more expensive tea/performance options. 2. Here often surrounded by smokers, which can be unpleasant. Despite the minor issues, this teahouse is highly recommended for an immersive cultural experience.
Jo L — Google review

The Jinsha Site Museum Tourist Center in Chengdu is a remarkable museum that showcases the ancient artifacts discovered at the Jinsha Site. This site, dating back to the 17th to 11th centuries BC, offers a glimpse into the Shu era with its extensive collection of gold, jade, bronze, stone, and ivory relics. The museum's five halls exhibit thousands of objects and provide insight into the historical culture of Chinese ancestors from around 2900-3200 years ago.

This is a fantastic museum and well worth a visit. It includes both the archeological site where the excavations took place which is well explained and the main museum which included the artefacts which they found. The museum is very good even for English speakers as everything is available in English. It is worth noting that there is a really good audio guide available in both Chinese and English. Simply scan the we chat code as you walk into the excavation site accept the friend, click on them and then click on the first button with Chinese on the bottom left of the screen and choose audio guide.

Nice museum about the neolithic inhabitants of the region, their lifestyle, religion, art, etc. The museum sits at the site of the excavations of what was a major area at the time. Many tombs have been found, kilns, jewellery, tools, daggers, chariots, etc. The park around the museum is also a major asset, with a beautiful river and green spaces, as well as ancient petrified trees from thousands of years ago. The park is part of the museum grounds, so you have to pay to get access to it. Park and museum are a few meters away from the nearest metro station. You can spend a nice afternoon there.

This is the bustling heart of Chengdu, with a towering Mao Zedong statue overlooking the city. While it’s more of a landmark than an attraction, it’s a great spot for people-watching, seeing kids play, and soaking in the city’s energy. If you're visiting at night, don’t miss the illuminated fountains, they add a nice touch. A quick but worthwhile stop if you're exploring downtown!
Leotrails — Google review
Good location in the centre of the city. Metro is an easy way to visit the Tianfu Square.
Sehrana R — Google review
Someone put some effort in here to make it look nice. Maybe take a few pictures and take a look to see what’s around given that you may pass by since it’s located pretty close to city center

Well. Maintained park and square good for a walk in evening or night, we could not see any other places around as we had been there in the night for dinner as Halal restaurants nearby.

Underground tianfu sqaure has almost everything. If you happen to save time in one stop before leaving to the airport. I recommened coming here. There is many souvenir shop. Coffee and Tea shop and countless restaurants junk food local food convenient store or even Uniqlo!
Bow S — Google review
Squares and parks usually don't disappoint in China. From a bird's eye view, it also forms a massive Taiji which is super cool. Underneath it is a metro station and massive food court. To the sides, you also have the Chengdu Museum and the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum. Further to this, there is a big statue of Mao Zedong, a giant set of peonies and the usual suspects in a Chinese square.
Kalin S — Google review
This is a huge and nice park in the city center that offers a great and nice view of skycrappers of the areas and is colourful too as it is beautifully decorated with many flowers and plants. It's better to visit at night and with the lightings, it's lovely. And right across is the Sichuan Museum of Science and Technology (that's also very nice at night with the lightings) with the "signature" statue of Chairman Mao. Very spectacular and nice building. The square is located just above the Tianfu metro station. And after our dinner, we came by here via metro for our stroll and indulged in it since we are all flower and plant lovers and took us about 15mins walk back to where we stayed at Chunxi Road.

Du Fu Thatched Cottage, located in Chengdu, is a memorial to the renowned poet who resided there during the Tang Dynasty. After fleeing to Chengdu in 759 following the An-Shi rebellion, he penned over 240 poems that are now treasured national works. The site offers insight into his life and work. In addition to this historical gem, visitors can explore other attractions such as Kuanzhai Alley and Jinsha Site Museum within Chengdu city.
Du Fu Cottage in Chengdu is a tranquil oasis perfect for a reflective walk. The lush gardens and historic structures offer a peaceful escape. Highly recommended for those seeking a serene and cultural experience.
B P — Google review
Unless you’re familiar with Du Fu’s poems, you’re here for the lush greenery and well kept park. And I was very surprised by the number of famous personalities who have visited the grounds. In Singapore, we’re probably more familiar with Li Bai, not Du Fu because of our secondary school text. But since they were close like brothers, it piqued my interest and I went searching for his poems. I was also happy to see marble statues of Li Bai, Du Fu and Su Tong Po. And we went searching for his thatched cottage.
HC L — Google review
Du Fu Thatched Cottage in Hanoi is a cultural spot inspired by the famous Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu’s original retreat in Chengdu, China. While it is not the actual historical site, the Hanoi version has been created as a quiet place of reflection and appreciation for classical poetry, literature, and traditional Chinese-style garden design. Visitors will find a charming layout featuring pavilions, water elements, and landscaped greenery that echo the simplicity and elegance associated with Du Fu’s writings. The site feels tucked away from the city’s usual bustle, offering a rare sense of stillness where travelers can pause, read, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. Interpretive boards and displays help contextualize the poet’s life and works, making the visit both educational and contemplative. For photographers, the best time to visit is early morning when the light is soft and the grounds are still empty. Details like carved woodwork, tiled roofs, and the reflections in ponds provide excellent compositional opportunities. Close-up shots of architectural features pair well with wider frames capturing the garden’s serenity. While the site may not be large, its calm and literary spirit make it a worthwhile stop for those seeking something different in Hanoi—especially travelers interested in poetry, history, and tranquil photography settings.

Unless you are a fan of Chinese poems, it is nothing special. The place is big and landscaping is pretty good. It is in fact several parks joined together, including the Sichuan Museum. You can do as much as you want or as little if you only want to see the cottage. If you are going only for a specific place, you better study the park map.
