Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a part of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, is a must-visit destination in China. The park is famous for its pillar-like rock formations, including the iconic 150-meter Southern Sky Column, also known as "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain" due to its appearance in the film "Avatar." Visitors can experience thrilling cable car rides and ride the world's tallest outdoor elevator, Bailong Elevator.
The national forest park is very nice it is unique in its kind. I really recommend it if you want to see nice nature. But before going there you should plan your itinerary to save time and see most of the park. I recommend taking the cable car if you only take one day to visit the park, but all tickets are for 4 days. You have buses inside that bring you everywhere but you can also walk. The negative part is that all the Paths are delimited which means you can’t really explore new places or get lost in the park.

A stunning and unique park, now a popular tourist destination for those traveling to China. Everything is very clean and organized, and you'll find yourself immersed in nature, enjoying breathtaking views. Take the elevator up to the top of the sandstone peaks and enjoy the view. You have to be lucky and find a sunny day.
Edoardo C — Google review
Zhangjiajie National Forest park 张家界国家森林公园 is where Mother Nature built skyscrapers before humans even figured out bricks. Recognized as the first national forest park in China (1982) and part of the larger 武陵源 UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, it’s officially rated a 5A tourist attraction, which in China means expect world-class views and equally world-class crowds. Even in off season it feels like half the country decided to go hiking with you. Main areas to explore before your legs give up: • 金鞭溪 Golden Whip Stream – a tranquil valley walk with towering cliffs, crystal-clear water, and monkeys plotting to steal your snacks. • 袁家界 Yuanjiajie – home of the iconic Avatar Hallelujah Mountain where sandstone pillars levitate in misty glory. • 杨家界 Yangjiajie – dramatic cliffs and quieter trails, great for pretending you discovered Zhangjiajie before everyone else. • 黄石寨 Huangshizhai – panoramic viewpoints so good that locals say “if you don’t climb Huangshizhai, you haven’t truly seen Zhangjiajie.” • 十里画廊 Ten Mile Gallery – stone peaks arranged like a giant natural scroll painting. Spoiler: it feels shorter than ten miles. • 张家界大峡谷 Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon – home to dizzying cliffs, waterfalls, and the record-breaking Glass Bridge, which is basically a test of whether you trust both physics and your legs. Pro tip If you don’t like spending more time in queues than on trails, get the VIP ticket. It skips the lines for elevators, cable cars, and shuttle buses.. saving up to an hour per attraction. Worth it when you realize standing in a queue here is the only view not worth photographing. Five stars because 张家界国家森林公园 is essentially nature’s IMAX in 4D.. mist, monkeys, and mild vertigo included, plus tourists everywhere waving selfie sticks like bamboo spears trying to capture the same mountain from 37 slightly different angles.

Truly a wonderful park, Avatar has chosen well its filming location . I have never seen such kind of mountains anywhere in the West. It is well organized despite the crowd w a lot of food and drink places along the way, shuttle buses to take you from one to the next place on a constant schedule. It is super clean, the paths unlike national parks in the west are all paved and with steps. You won’t find a gravel road to walk on. Do spend 2 days exploring it. 1 day, enter from the East Gate and head to the direction of the world’s highest outdoor elevator, visit clockwise, don’t forget to visit Terrace in the sky which costs extra. Walk all the way down, there is a drone photographer who can have a fantastic drone film 98 cny made for you without the crowd anywhere else you encounter in the park. The 2nd day do Huangshizai enter from the South Gate take the cable up walk clockwise. After you come down, I would definitely walk all 7km along the creek and exit from the east gate. Along the creek you will have the park almost to yourself as not many tourists do the long walk and you will encounter the snow monkey cousins. We went very early the 1st day to avoid the crowd, but the fog hasn’t cleared up. I would probably enter around 9:30-10 if it is a good day because by then the fogs would be gone. You have to decide whether you want the long wait or the fog. Have fun.

14-18/10/2025 Zhangjiajie Trip We set off from Hong Kong by high-speed rail. this journey was having to book high-speed rail tickets 14 days in advance on 12306 The weather didn’t cooperate—it was either rainy or overcast for all five days. For the first two days, we stayed at the Ji Hotel全季酒店 near 東門Dongmen, just a 3-minute walk from the Dongmen Gate. Through the hotel, we booked the main entrance tickets and a combo ticket for the three cable cars and one elevator (¥191 for seniors over 65 and ¥480 for one adult, plus Tianmen Mountain Route A tickets for ¥116 + ¥268). Since we entered at 7:30 a.m., there weren’t many people. We took the eco-friendly bus to the Bailong Elevator, and just as I arrived, the queue was cut off right in front of me, allowing me to be the first to enter the elevator. The weather wasn’t great, so we just wandered around casually. On the second day, we entered through the south gate and took the cable car up to 黃石寨Huangshi Village to see the peaks. Perhaps it was still early, but the mist hadn’t cleared yet, and a light drizzle was falling. We couldn’t see any peaks clearly, so we had no choice but to head back down and look for the "Monkey King." Unfortunately, even the monkeys weren’t out. Luckily, we spotted three of them just as we were about to give up. We then took a taxi to the Tianmen Mountain Hotel, dropped off our luggage, and went to explore the 72奇楼.
CaRoL — Google review
Planned our visit for late October and opted for the fast-track option, which we definitely appreciated when we zoomed past 10 minute queues which gave us more time exploring the landmarks. The ride up on the cable car is exhilarating and truly milestone memorable!! We made our way down by the touristy spots, which were busy, but if you were willing to walk 10 minutes away, you were rewarded with the most magnificent views of Mother Nature's rock skyscrapers and the mist drifting amidst the tree-lined stacks! The elevator down definitely tested my vertigo-nerves, but is a feat of engineering that can't be missed. We finished off our visit at the beautiful river and little 6km train ride where we were entertained by the resident monkeys and their thieving mischief.
Georgie B — Google review
Another natural wonder of China, vast and breathtaking. Advice get a map and decide which area appeals to you the most. To truly appreciate the national park get a four day pass with unlimited access to the three cable ways and the Bai Long elevator. The tip for the elevator if you buy unlimited passes is to ride it up and down to get to the glass front of the elevator for 100% views. Internal electrical buses cart you around. A physical map from the any of the entrances are a must, I could not find anything comprehensive online.

OMG if you haven’t yet been to Zhangjiajie Forest, put it on your radar. From the top of the mountains is the most spectacular view. Incredible scenery from every viewpoint. Quite a bit of walking involved but totally worth it. Try and get a drone video done as the result is a top quality video with amazing scenery.

Tianmen Mountain is one of the many stunning attractions in Zhangjiajie, a region known for its lush vegetation and diverse landscapes. The area boasts karst upthrusts, waterfalls, limestone caves, and rivers teeming with rare flora and fauna. Visitors can also immerse themselves in the traditional lifestyle of ethnic minorities like the Tujia, Miao, and Bai people who call this place home.
The cable car up was just fast enough to enjoy the views- could use some A/C though. Going down the 999 steps was a great experience and the glass paths were awesome.
Justin F — Google review
Unfortunately the day I went it was very foggy but it was still an amazing experience. The cable car took us to the mountain and the rest of the journey was taken on many, many escalators but the view was still amazing. I can only imagine how breathtaking it would have been without the fog. The glass walkway was very fun to walk through and I was still able to take some amazing photos.
Beatriz F — Google review
Since I didn't book tickets for the 72奇楼 in advance, I only took photos from the outside and across the street before taking a taxi back to the hotel (staying at Hilton Hampton Hotel希爾頓歡朋酒店). It’s right opposite the Tianmen Mountain天門山 ticket station, super convenient. On the third day, since the hotel was right across from the ticket office, we could take our time enjoying breakfast before heading over. We had booked an entry time between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. There weren’t many people, so we quickly made it onto the cable car. And because it wasn’t crowded, we pretended not to understand and waited for the next cabin before getting on 😉. Due to the heavy fog—or perhaps the morning mist hadn’t cleared yet—the mountain views were sometimes clear, sometimes obscured. But I could tell we were really high up, and it was a bit scary... Finally, we reached the mountaintop. I initially thought taking the West Route would be easier, but it wasn’t until we reached Tianmen Mountain Temple that I found out we had to take the mini cable car at the summit to descend—otherwise, we’d have to backtrack along the West Route or take the longer East Route. When I saw the cable car, my legs went weak—it was basically a suspended gondola. That day, it was windy with a light drizzle, so we had no choice but to take the East Route again. When we arrived at Tianmen Cave, the opening wasn’t visible due to the fog. We had no option but to go into a restaurant and have a bowl of noodles (only wonton was available, and thankfully, it wasn’t spicy). After waiting about an hour, the fog finally lifted a little, so I took a quick "I was here" photo just to get the obligatory shot.
CaRoL — Google review
Very nice. The price was quite steep but it included the amazing cable car ride that took you directly from the heart of the city to Tianmensan in half and hour, no fuss. The view from the top was beautiful and it was also fun to ride the never-ending escalators.
Pp_reviewer — Google review
Most incredible park, even better than the National Park. There was so much fog unfortunately but the hike on top of the mountain made it so worth it, despite it. I recommend also for you to take route B, as it allows you to do the 999 Stairs to Heaven first and finish with the hike on top of the mountain. It is also a much less crowded route. You do end up taking the cableway, downward at the end of your visit
Béatrice S — Google review
Nature is amazing, everything is breathtaking. When I've been to Japan, I've heard that you have to rely on luck to see Mt. Fuji. This place is no different. Of course, I visited on a foggy day, so I didn't get the most beautiful view, but it was still impressive and the weather was beautiful. I recommend buying comfort for your money. It will save you time, reduce fatigue, and eliminate the frustration of waiting in line.
Piyanan V — Google review
Lucky enough to see the floating mountains as the cloud blew through. Such beautiful scenery. Never been on so many escalators - 12 to get down from Heavens Gate to the capable car. Always have a supply of Truly Nuts to snack on for the journey!
Marie B — Google review
From the photos, Tianmen Mountain looks really beautiful! But it depends on the weather. If you’re lucky, you’re able to see the mountain. However, visibility was quite low due to the rain and fog. Couldn’t see anything 🙁

Huangshizhai, also known as the Yellow Village, is a misty viewpoint offering stunning vistas of unique stone hills. Accessible by hiking trails or a cable car, it's recommended to follow the Golden Whip Stream trail to reach this picturesque spot. The trail is shaded and serene, with opportunities to encounter adorable monkeys along the way. However, visitors are advised not to feed them and keep snacks concealed in their bags.
We were here in april on a wednesday around noon and didn’t have to wait. The cable car ride is amazing and the views from the top are one of a kind. Clean toilets on the upper station many shops even a pharmacy. The cable cars seemed well maintained and are built by a french company.
Timo T — Google review
The scenery is nice. If you come here in summer, expect 30° to 40° Celsius and take water with you. Entering took a troublesome, lengthy time and there are quite a lot of people. If you like to look at nature, I do recommend it.
Netaro — Google review
Without a doubt, Huangshizhai is Zhangjiajie's crown jewel! We’re here in 3rd week of April. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, it was sunny however the cool temperature was hovering around 18-20C which made it very pleasant to walk. Moreover it was much less crowded than other attractions in zhangjiajie. Nowhere else captures the park's mystical beauty quite like this - where ancient sandstone pillars stands majestically and every viewpoint feels like a masterpiece. Huangshizhai offers a spectacular yet more immersive experience. Here, you'll find yourself lingering at very well maintained cliffside platforms, mesmerized as morning mist swirls around the rock formation. The cable car ascent alone is worth the trip, revealing an unfolding landscape that will steal your breath before you even reach the summit. By the way, we didn’t encounter any wild monkey at the mountain which made it an even more pleasant outing for us. You'll understand why this place deserves to be the highlight of your entire Zhangjiajie adventure!
Sam L — Google review
Top of mountain climb. We went by stairs 2 hours climb because of cable car maintenance. Highly recommend taking stairs as lots of monkey and landmarks along the way. On top and halfway, aid station / cold drink shop and toilet are available.

April 15 - Beautiful scenery and park. A must visit. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. Lots of steps. Not wheelchair friendly.

Now(15/11/2018) most of the route are in construction. We can go only from cable car to Front garden point and go back.

Great place to visit, if you don’t speak the language bring a lot of patient ad good amount of adventure, overall was amazing experience.

This village is up in the mountain and took around 2 hours to walk up the stairs. Decided to take the cableway to the mountain. The scenery is nice, with many nice view at every location. Many retail shops closed, only 2 or 3 shops were operating when I was there in Jun. The villagers may have been relocated. Some path were closed for renovation.

Wulingyuan Scenic Area is a vast and picturesque landscape featuring unique sandstone pillars, streams, pools, and waterfalls. It encompasses the Huanglong Cave within Zhangjiajie City in Hunan Province. This area boasts typical karst topography and is recognized as a member of the International Show Caves Association. It's also part of China's first round of 4A-level tourist areas and one of the country's well-known tourism brands.
A category 5A tourist attraction in China. The nature is breathtaking and it is the place where the movie Avatar was filmed. That makes this place even more popular. Be reminded that the journey is a long walk up and down hills with stairs, so the elderly should walk slowly and firmly. To wander up here is not easy. It requires a few connections with the national park coach. Information about the connections is quite limited and the drivers and Chinese officers are not helpful at all. Also, the coaches drive super fast through curves, which is very dangerous.
Tony C — Google review
The park is really big, you can buy a ticket of 4 days visit. You should buy with the help of a hotel or a tour because otherwise you need a Chinese number and to know Chinese because the official site is in Chinese. I suggest to enter from the east part in wulkngyuan and to do the bailong elevator in the way down so you avoid so much crowds.
Riccardo — Google review
Wulingyuan Scenic Area Scenic might be an understatement: This 1000 square mile area contains thousands of sandstone pillars that are nature's version of skyscrapers—some even stretch taller than the Empire State Building’s midpoint. It's no wonder this site was a major inspiration for the world of Pandora in Avatar. 📍 Zhangjiajie, China 🇨🇳

Manage your expectation. I was so excited and expected too much because of what I've seen on fb, Instagram and YouTube. Also, it was cloudy the morning we were here so it probably add up. I was here Sept 2nd I booked a vip tour so there was no much waiting.

Very pretty, and it’s a four day ticket so good to spend some time to just explore different areas of the park! Bailong elevator was quite overrated in my opinion, but essential to help you get up to the top. The crowds/your groups are insane, best to go really early!

Wulingyuan, located in China's Central Hunan province, is a captivating national park celebrated for its stunning natural features. The town of Wulingyuan enjoys a prime location surrounded by core scenic areas including Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, Baofeng Lake, and Yellow Dragon Cave. Visitors can easily access these sites as they are within a short driving distance from the town.
Incredible landscapes, Wulingyuan is the name of the neighborhood of one of the two entrances to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Allow a full day to see the main peaks, 2 days to do the whole park. Don't forget to take the Charming Xiangxi Theatre in the evening, which is a 15-minute walk from the entrance!
Thomas M — Google review
It's icon and a must see destination. Very beautiful and fascinating scenery. It does take all day to get through the park. It is very crowded. You take a bus, lift and cable way. Quite a bit of walking. It is a bit expensive, but I can't imagine the cost to make this accessible to the public. There are lots of restrooms and places to buy snacks and drinks. Because of the long lines, I would probably only visit once.
Sharon O — Google review
Wulingyuan, an awe-inspiring natural wonder, is renowned for its majestic mountains, often referred to as the Avatar Mountains due to their striking resemblance to the floating mountains depicted in the movie "Avatar". This spectacular area, encompassing 48 uniquely shaped peaks, stands as a testament to nature's artistry, drawing visitors from around the globe. Each of the 48 mountains in Wulingyuan boasts its own distinct character, with towering pinnacles and lush greenery that create a breathtaking panorama. The region's beauty is further enhanced by the mists that often shroud the peaks, lending an ethereal quality to the landscape. This misty veil adds an element of mystery and enchantment, making every view feel like a glimpse into an otherworldly realm. The flora and fauna of Wulingyuan are as diverse as its topography. The area serves as a sanctuary for a wide array of wildlife, and its dense forests are home to numerous plant species, some of which are rare and endemic. The harmonious coexistence of such biodiversity adds another layer of allure to this natural paradise.
Fernankd L — Google review
First, it is a very large area with an insane amount of walking up and down stairs. If you are like kung fu panda who hates stairs, avoid like the plague. Second, very poor signages and total chaos as even the locals are lost like everyone else. For a world famous destination it has a very lowly standard of providing clear directions, customer service and crowd control. Third, only the Avatar area is amazing. Forget the rest. Four, it is too expensive. Five, it is merciless and indifferent to physically challenged people and senior citizens. It is quite clear that this park doesn't welcome such categories of people.

It’s really rather cool but be warned: It’s touristy as hell and buying tickets is a pain. If you are sure of your dates just buy them beforehand. If you’re like me and put things off to the last minute then this is what I did. Even though on the board it said the tickets were sold out for the for time slot (it’s timeslot entry) I waited in line and when the clock went from 8:00 to 9:00 there was a reset and then tickets for the 9:00 entry were for sale again. Make sure to only buy tickets from the machine if they match your time. I think 2 full days is enough to see the park, depending on how much you wanna hike then maybe 3. Fields in the sky is the coolest one IMO. The cable cars and other stuff is cool but be prepared for insane lines. It’s also rather touristy so if you want the more raw experience then be prepared to go for a hike

This is also an UNESCO site listed in 1992. The park is very big, you can take up to one full day to hike along the many ravines and gorges with picturesque streams, pools, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. Its better to carry a park map with you, just in case you lost your sense of direction.

Tujia Folk Customs Park is a cultural site in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City, showcasing traditional Tujia architecture and customs. The park offers replicas of Tujia houses and artifacts inside the Jiuchongtian Hereditary Hall. It is said to be linked with the legend of Yang Warriors from the Northern Song Dynasty. Visitors can enjoy folk performances and learn about local customs through guided tours, including a traditional 'crying wedding' show.
Visited with a tour group, and this is not far from Zhangjiajie. Beautiful complex, which I was told was once a police station, and barracks, which also includes a Buddha shrine, a large stadium for performing events, and is highlighted by a very long pale white dragon which snakes its way right out of the main building itself. Everything is made of wood, and it is pretty ancient. Large animal animal sculptures in stone adorn the entryway. Shows are regularly performed, and all of the staff is usually dressed in traditional outfits. Animal aspects also adorn the corners of each rooftop as well. I am glad I had a chance to spend half a day here.
William W — Google review
I really enjoyed learning about the Tujia Folk Culture and the significance of silver in their ethnic group. They have really specific, interesting beliefs, especially the “crying lady” tradition. An english speaking tour guide was assigned to our group. We were given individual portable speakers and earphones as we roamed around the area. The tour was very informative. We saw a big Buddha where you can throw coins, a wishing tree, and Tujia-style clothing for men and women. We were asked not to take photos upon entering the old house so we wouldn’t attract spirits or anything like that. The last stop of the tour was at a silver jewelry store and there were some kumquat vendors at the entrance/exit area.
Elyssa Y — Google review
My visit offered a truly fascinating glimpse into the unique matriarchal customs of the Tujia people. The most memorable stories involved the traditions used to ensure a husband's loyalty, such as the belief that a wife would feed her husband a special potion made from a poisonous insect so he would listen to her. This kind of captivating insight was the undeniable highlight of the trip. However, this cultural immersion was tempered by a practical reality: the extremely high prices. While the park's silver goods are undeniably beautiful and top-quality, their cost is entirely prohibitive, which made souvenir shopping an impossibility for me. Ultimately, I'd recommend a visit for its unique stories, but advise you to see the marketplace as a viewing gallery rather than a shopping destination.

Tujia Folk Customs Park, also known as Tujia Ethnic Village, is a cultural attraction located in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, China. It offers a captivating glimpse into the traditional lifestyle, architecture, and customs of the Tujia people, one of China’s minority ethnic groups. Visitors to the park are welcomed by the stunning wooden architecture, characterized by intricate carvings and vibrant colors. The traditional stilted houses, known as diaojiaolou, are a highlight, offering insight into the unique building techniques of the Tujia people. The layout of the village mimics an authentic Tujia settlement, complete with lush greenery and water features. Here you can buy a silver jewelry. The park’s staff are friendly and knowledgeable, providing valuable context and make sure to download WeChat or google translate, or better yet find a local guide who can speak English.

Terez C — Google review
Very nice architecture but can get quite crowded with tourists. It is a tourist trap as there is a silver store at the end of the tour. The information they provided us about silver wasn’t accurate after I did further research. They tried to convince me my bottled water was as acidic as apple juice to convince me to buy a silver teapot.

Tianmen Mountain National Park is a forested park located on a mountaintop, featuring a vast cave and a sprawling Tang Dynasty temple that can be reached by cable car. The park also includes Tianmen Cave, Tongtian Avenue (Avenue toward Heaven), and the Tianmen Mountain Cableway. Visitors can embark on an unforgettable adventure through this captivating destination, immersing themselves in rich history and culture while exploring iconic World Heritage Sites.
What a marvellous piece of nature this is. We went there twice. On our first visit, we took line A and explored the national park all the way to the temple. Tianmen temple may be a long walk, but it's certainly a beautiful one, and the temple itself is so peaceful. The glass bridges are all paid individually. On our way down, we took the escalators through the mountain. Oh boy! that was some great engineering! Unfortunately, the weather that day was too bad. We couldn't see the cave at all due to the mist and heavy rain, so we had to rush ourselves out. On our second visit, we took line B, the skies were clear and we got the cable car to ourselves. We saw the cave, the stairway and also stayed back for the light show. It was totally worth it!

📌👍 South of Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is eight km from the city centre. It is considered to be the essence and symbol of Zhangjiajie and is the city's  second national forest. Someone claims that this mountain is the fairyland on the edge of heaven and the most exquisite flower garden in the sky. It is worth a visit  because of  its remarkable and distinctive geographic landform, unmatched natural scenery, deep cultural meanings, and  well-known, vibrant  humanistic place. 🌟The 30-minute Tianmen Moutain Cableway, glass skywalks, Avenue towards Heaven Tianmen Cave and cliff-hanging walkways are some of the major attractions available on Tianmen Mountain. ♦️✨️Walking up 999 steps to reach the cave will be difficult yet rewarding, as '9' is  the largest number in Chinese tradition and999 represents eternal/forever life. Tianmen Cave's attraction is themysterious views of fog and clouds. This place is actually in Yuanding another district in Zhang Jia Jie. We had to travel about 40 minutes from WulingYuen. So it’s quite an exciting experience. You would take the world longest cable car, ride ~7.5 km right from the middle of the city , slowly climbing across the train stations and various sights , travelling into the rural areas and towards the mountain. It’s about 25 minutes ride. There are various scenic sites around the Tian men park , but we had a cloudy day and couldn’t get a good view of the mountains on the wooden planks gallery walk and glass walkway . Pro Tip you can pay more for express passes for the cable car rides . Totally worth it . And if you don’t want to climb down the 999 steps of Tianmen , you can take the world longest escalator down . N actually it’s pretty interesting seeing Tianmen iconic hole from the posterior view before the climb down .

The place was stunning. I would take route A and go west route. Stay at the Hampton. The cable car was across the streeet. Get there when they open. Lines fill up fast and queue can be up to 40 mins to hours. Got there at 7am and still waited 40mins.
Benny V — Google review
Interesting, like the cliff hanging walkways, well positioned for visitors to enjoy the beautiful views leisurely. Cableway were smooth and pleasant. Worth visiting.

Another wonderful experience on our recent trip. We were lucky enough to have a clear day/evening and a wonderful view of the cave. We climbed down the 999 steps from the cave to the ground. Steps are narrow so take your time coming down. Once dusk is upon you, the lighting just adds to the amazing atmosphere. A must go!
Alexandra G — Google review
Took the west route. Be prepared to walk long distances. Buy entry tickets in advance as the wait time can be more than 2 hours during peak times.

Tianmen Fairy Mountain (North Gate) offers an outdoor musical performance that narrates a classic Chinese love tale against the stunning backdrop of Tianmen Mountain and its deep valleys. The show, known as Tianmen Fox Fairy, is highly praised for its captivating storytelling. Visitors can enjoy this nightly spectacle without long waits or queues, even during off-peak seasons like November. Despite potential weather challenges, spending a full day on the mountain is well worth it.
Amazing place! Come here in the afternoon so you get a chance to take photos of the stairs when it’s light outside but also dark and the stairs light up! There is a lot to see up there so take your time! Up there it’s windy and chill, so I would recommend to come here on hot days without a problem! Gets crowded

Can have a close view of the 99-bend avenue. The Fairy Fox show theater is located by the entrance.

The north gate of tianmen fairy mountain is the famous gate that is off seen in photos. This side of the mountain also has the express cable car which can go up and down the mountain in just 5 minutes. You'll see tianmen cave at the top and the fairy fox theater at the bottom.
Richard F — Google review
Tianmen Mountain is a spiritual place steeped in legends and customs. It's unclear if the mountain itself pertains to any particular religion but there is a beautiful Buddhist temple at the top. You can take a cable car half way up the mountain which will deposit you close to the bottom of a huge, steep staircase leading to a huge natural stone arch called Heaven's Gate. Don't worry, there's also a lift. After the gate there's a series of long escalators to the top of the mountain. The mountain is topped by dense jungle and the perimeter is a sheer cliff all the way round. There are walkways fixed to the cliff face, some made of glass which is scary. A brisk walk round the perimeter will take about an hour but you should allow two because you will be enticed into the jungle by enchanting passages leading to beautiful places. There's a serene ski lift taking you from the back of the mountain to the centre which I strongly advise you to take a ride on. At the front of the mountain you can take a cable car all the way to Zhangjiaje town. You should allow four hours to experience the whole place. In June 2025 it cost about 500 yuan to visit. Last entry is 4pm. Regardless of which entrance you choose YOU WILL ALWAYS NEED TO START YOU TOUR AT THE CABLE CAR STATION IN ZHANGJIAJIE TOWN and a bus will take you to the other entrance if that's where you're going. Tianmen Mountain is not included in the Zhangjiajie National Forrest Park ticket.

Using the real backdrop of the Tianmen Mountain (Heaven's Gate), this live performance is one of the best we have seen in China. The storyline is about the romance of a good nature common villager and a 1000 years fox fairy. Their love was not a bed of roses at the start, but their perseverance paid off in the end. The production led by Mei Shuaiyuan, who also produces the well-known show of Yangshuo Impression Sanjie Liu, creatively uses lights against the natural beauty of Tianmen Mountain, cascading water creating a village comprises of many Tujia Village cottages and merges live and pre-shot scenes to create special effects. It's a nice show to watch, and as the shows are only shown at night, the cooling atmosphere makes the show a real romance.

Been there in the last days of April. We made the B route of the cable car, which was very nice. We went up the 999 steps up the mountain. And spent additional 4 to 5 hours on the mountain itself. Incredible place.

There's some hiking to do if u go up here. It's foggy, and the wind was extremely strong when we were there. If you are touring with a small group, I would personally encourage you to engage a local tour guide. The highlight of all is the legendary' 9 tailed fox' sing and dance performance. Totally awesome!

Train station
Zhangjiajie Railway Station, also known as Zhangjiajie North Railway Station, is a major transportation hub connecting the city with various destinations across China. Travelers can easily access downtown areas via 24-hour buses available at the station. However, securing train tickets to other cities from Zhangjiajie can be challenging due to the high influx of tourists. Fortunately, there are service centers where travelers can seek assistance in booking tickets for a nominal service fee.
Caution: ⚠️⚠️This is the old rail station (still operational). This is NOT the High Speed Rail station for Zhangjiajie. The high speed rail station is ZHANGJIAJIEXI (ZZJ WEST Station). However you can still buy the tickets for your inter city high speed rail ticket here (with passport if you are a foreigner). and the counter staff is helpful and patient. 🌟🌟🌟but remember to take the train at the RIGHT Station.

This railway station is the one we took to Changsha. The building is quite large with a few shops available, including a McDonald's. It is much smaller than the one in Changsha, though. One thing I noticed is yahtvtherr is a lot of the massager chairs.

Coming by train from Shanghai and leaving form this train station to Beijing. Train journey from Shanghai to Zhangjiajie was more than pleasant. The train stuff did not speak English but they manage to inform us that we are closing to a station of our destination. The Train station itself for arrivals is quite fine just go with the crowd and you will reach the exit. The departure experience was much more complicated. The information boards and speakers communicate were Chinese only. Also, the train number from some reason was different than on ticket... so there is required a lot of showing off a ticket to strangers so they can point you in the right direction. The smart move is to use VIP lounge. In VIP lodge you will be informed that you train will arrive soon and you will get a priority pass to a platform so you can be sure that you will not miss anything. As for food options. There is mainly Chinese food selection. If you want to get some non-Chinese food you have to go out of the train station (thru the security) and go to nearby McDonalds. (about 100m from the train station)
