The Kundasang War Memorial, established in 1962, is one of the earliest memorials dedicated to honoring the British and Australian soldiers who perished at the Sandakan POW Camp during World War II. It pays tribute to those involved in the tragic Sandakan Death March, a series of forced marches that resulted in a devastating death toll.
Kundasang War Memorial is a must visit place in Kundasang. It commemorate a horrific event of WWII where 2428 prisoners of war died. The memorial is on a hill behind Kundasang market. Inside we will find Australian Garden, English Rose Garden and Borneon Garden to mark the origins of the many POW. And the Contemplation Garden offers a poignant reminder of the horrors of war. Plenty of parking nearby. There is a small entrance fee.
SY T — Google review
Overrated place, charging entrance fee claiming as maintenance fee but not doing any maintenance. It was very obvious this place is lacking maintenance, dirty and everywhere stain of alga or lots of dried leaves. Many photos on google review are old photos, yes, they looked nice but that was many years ago. Now it look totally different and feel like abandoned place, yet they charge entrance fee. There is a small shop there, one of the guy working there has super bad attitude. When asking the direction to toilet he basically stared without answering, but, remember, on top of charging entrance fee they also charge toilet fee. And for the toilet is was super weird that they wrote on the wall asking you to save water DONT FLUSH….. I don’t recommend coming here, for any tourist.
Siauhwa T — Google review
I had no idea this place existed and I found it almost by accident but I'm really glad I did. It tells the tale of the prisoners of war from Sandakan, the death march and of the local heroes who tried to help them along the way. There are different gardens in remembrance of those from Australia, England and the local population as well as good views out to Mount Kinabalu. The cost of entry was 15 ringgit for a non-Malaysian (I think?) but this is definitely worth it. The gardens are very well kept and there is enough information to make it interesting. The Browne Town.
Stephen B — Google review
A place of memorial and tribute to all those lost lives during world war 2. Didn't learn this in Sejarah though. Great opportunity to learn about the real history with the existence of this kinda memorial.
Mohan K — Google review
For Malaysian you need to pay rm5 for entry. But its a good price to commemorate the fallen soldiers and their sacrifices. It's peaceful. The flowers are tended, the place is clean.
Wahidah K — Google review
It's very disappointing that this place is not well managed. If I come next year, there will most likely be nothing that has changed. For example, the landscaping of the area, the flowers are not in order, the pool water is dirty, and a lot of RM1 money & coins is thrown in, probably as a token of appreciation to the soldiers. Maybe the management can collect the money for the purpose of repairing the area. Bagi sa lh kn masuk d sini teda yg bikin WAHHH, cuma mmmmm seja🥲
Dy J — Google review
Enjoyed every moment step to historical place which my kids keep asking what it said and why it happen. They took a lot of picture which really enjoy to see them learning it..the garden build if own nostalgic memory within the cabin hang a lot frame that had it story, picture and letter that touch ur ❤️ heart...will visit again
Angela L — Google review
If in the area worthy of a visit. A memorial to celebrate the lives of all those that perished on the death march, separate dedicated gardens for the Australian and British troops, the gardens are a bit run down and need some TLC, still worth the time to visit.

Sosodikon Hill in Kundasang is a popular spot for a short and easy hike, suitable for people of all ages. The 1465 meters tall hill offers stunning views of the valley and Mount Kinabalu on clear days. It's recommended to wear proper hiking shoes due to slippery and rocky slopes. The trek is not advisable for those with knee issues. Visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid cloud cover obstructing the mountain view.
If you want to see sunrise on this hill, you need to notify the staff 1 day before. The hill is not steep but it still gives a hiking experience because 80% of it is rocky terrain, not stairs. The wind in the morning is very strong. If you can't withstand the cold, please wear extra clothing or a sweater. Only high performance drones that can withstand strong wind are able to fly. I brought my DJI Neo but didn't dare to fly it.
Nasri N — Google review
Sosodikan Hill is an excellent location for a spectacular view of Mt.Kinabalu and Kundasang. A short climbing height of around 65(?)m and 12mins effort would bring you to a height of 1465m above sea level. The platform constructed at the peak of the hill allow for a safe viewing spot. You would not be disappointed. This short trek and the well maintained trail makes it suitable for families to attempt. There is a small fee for the climb and there are parking for your car nearby.
SY T — Google review
Short climb up in the heat but the view to the left was very nice. To the right more agreculture. Nice flowers and butterflies and the swallows that flew over. Maybe the platform etc to collerfull. It does not comply with nature. But for RM 10 oke
Pjotr M — Google review
The walk up to the hill is much more gradual than the Pyramid hill. Its better for the less fit tourist. Nice view of the kinabalu mountain from the peak of this hill. Its a nice location for good photo taking. Place is kept clean. However parking space is limited. The souvenir sold here are nice. I like this hill view.

Here’s a refined version of your review: Sosodikap Hill, Kundasang – Review Sosodikap Hill in Kundasang is a great spot to visit after completing the Mount Kinabalu hike. It’s a simple hill, but the view is absolutely stunning offering an amazing sight of Mount Kinabalu and the surrounding nature. I truly loved the scenery and the peaceful atmosphere. A beautiful place worth stopping by!
Pravinah M — Google review
A breathtaking hidden gem in Kundasang! 🌄 Sosodikon Hill offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of Mount Kinabalu. The short hike to the top is quite easy and suitable even for beginners or families. Once you reach the peak, the scenery is absolutely worth it — rolling hills, cool mountain breeze, and a perfect view for sunrise or sunset photos. There’s also a small stall near the parking area where you can buy local snacks and drinks. The trail is well maintained, and the locals are very friendly. If you’re visiting Kundasang, Sosodikon Hill is a must-visit spot for nature lovers, hikers, or anyone who wants to enjoy peaceful mountain vibes away from the crowd. 📸 Tip: Come early in the morning for the best light and fewer people.
Wardah M — Google review
You need to come here before 7am to get the best view! We came here at 7am and the gunung kinabalu still visible without any cloud. Can get the full view of gunung kinabalu. Price is rm5 per entry. There will be dogs follow you around, might be their tour guide. But the dog is good dont worry. Gotta hike for 600m maybe till you reach the top. Quite tired if you’re not fit enough :p
Win — Google review
Tips to someone who rarely go hiking, bring your water with you! The hike is not long but still being hydrated would be beneficial for you. The view is MESMERIZING.

3Desa Dairy Farm Entrance

4.5

Mentioned on
6 lists
Desa Dairy Farm entrance is often compared to the dairy farms of New Zealand due to its cool climate, misty surroundings, and highland landscapes. The farm spans 199 hectares and produces a staggering 900,000 liters of milk annually, mainly from Holstein Friesians cows known for their exceptional milk production. Visitors can explore the farm at their own pace as there are no guided tours despite online ticket bookings.
Desa Dairy farm in KK is definitely worth a visit. If you have the time, come on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Don’t miss their coffee milk and yogurt gelato — both are fresh and delicious. The cool weather and beautiful scenery make it a relaxing spot to spend a few hours.
Lance T — Google review
TIP: Buy tickets online before you arrive (MYR 5.00 only for a Malaysian adult). The website is a bit of a pain really, as you need to register for an account AND verify your email, before you can book and pay for the tickets. Extremely inconvenient as you’d probably only come here one time so there is actually no need to “register” for an account. They should allow visitors to just register as a “guest” as many other ticketing website now allows. Once you have successfully managed to book and pay for your tickets online, you only need to show the booking to the attendant at the entrance to the farm, then drive up to the many parking spots available around the area. Come here early morning around 8:00am as this will give you the best chance to take photos with a clear view of Kinabalu in the background (and avoid the crowd). After 10:00am clouds usually move in and obscure the peak. There are many good places for this, around the compound. The gelato and yoghurt are a must-try, don’t miss them. They’re worth the (usually) long queues.
Halimi A — Google review
Visited Desa Dairy Farm recently — the highlight is definitely the stunning landscape. With Mount Kinabalu in the background, a cool, breezy wind, and wide green fields, it really feels like a slice of Europe right here in Sabah. The scenery alone makes it worth seeing at least once. It’s basically a dairy farm with a small park area, great for photos and to let kids see the cows up close. Their dairy products are nice but quite expensive compared to normal retail prices. Be prepared for crowds — the place is very packed, especially on weekends. Parking is always full, so you’ll likely need to park outside and walk quite a distance, which isn’t very suitable for older visitors. All in all, it’s worth visiting once for the view and the experience — but once is probably enoug
Mamaamiey — Google review
Nice dairy cow farm with majestic mountain view. However, mountain is not visible during rainy weather. Ice cream was fabulous. Rich and creamy. Buy tickets online beforehand to book your slots.
Mohan K — Google review
It's a so-so kind of experience. Had to pay before entering the property, in your car. If you want the picture with the white fence in overlooking the cow's grazing field, you should do it at the left side of the main entrance, before you enter the property. I didn't see any area similar to this inside the property. The place is huge with a number of things to do such as feeding the calves and goats with no additional charges; but you do have to purchase the grass and milk at a designated counter for RM2 each. There is also the barn where you can go and see the adult cows. Around the area were a lot of flowers, so a photo opt. They sell their products such as "ice cream" or they call it gelato (to me it was not an ice cream nor a gelato, it's more like a frozen yoghurt because the texture and taste were a bit sour like yoghurt. I don't know for other flavours but the original one was definitely a frozen yoghurt). They also sell pizza, sausages, nuggets, fries, milk cartons and yoghurts. They have several stations selling their goods such as the main building, tents outside the main building and a cafe a bit further up the parking area. Just keep an eye out for them and avoid the very long queue at the main building just to buy them. If you go in the morning maybe it'll be a bit cold but we arrived almost at noon so the wheather was just nice. Not too cold. I think that's about it. Overall was just okay. I just think that they should clarify clearly that the ice cream is frozen yoghurt in essence. I had my hope up for a creamy and delicious ice cream. I was very much bummed 😔
Amira S — Google review
This place is over rated by the social media. Nothing much to see actually as all the cows grazing are much too far away to have a close up photo taking. Not many of them though. Those in the barn are just lazing around in a confinement area. The only reason that tourist are flocking in maybe because of the ideal location for photo taking of the kinabalu mountain as background. You will be fortunate to have the view if the clouds are not hovering on top of the mountain peak. The ice cream sold here are nice but at premium price. Anyway its a one time visit only for me. Will not be going back here if Im in Kundasang again.
Sharin S — Google review
can pay online ticket. Rm5 for adult n kids free. great place for scenery. parking bit far need to walk down.

Nice view and chilling atmosphere. Just need to improve seats and foods availability in the restaurant. It would be great if more benches are available around the premise so elderly could rest on it while enjoying the scenery.

Poring Hot Spring is a popular resort complex located in Kinabalu Park, offering outdoor pools filled with natural mineral-rich hot spring waters. The attraction features an outdoor pool consistently at about 33 degrees Celsius (92 Fahrenheit) with natural minerals and a cascading waterfall, known for its therapeutic properties that can relieve tense muscles and skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Bring towel and change of clothing with you. If u want privacy, take the private hotspring pool with a fee. To cool down, you can visit two waterfalls way down the path after the We skipped the canopy walk due to time constraint.
Nursuriati J — Google review
Amazing park and it is one of UNESCO heritage sites. Very beautiful place to enjoy nature. but better be prepared and come in with right outfit, shoes and a big bottle of water if you plan to go to the Canopy walk since the hike will take aprx. 1000 meter up.
Sosa K — Google review
Canopy walk is closed for major maintenance. Butterfly garden with very few butterflies. Hotspring footspa is free, and 10rm to rent a tub for 3hours. there is a mini water park, fee applies. good to spend a hot afternoon there with family. 15min trek to a very cooling waterfall, that worth visiting! Overall a well maintained park.
Bel W — Google review
Absolute waste of time and money for foreigners. The entry fee if MYR 50 per person entitles you to NOTHING except just to enter. If you like to use the hot spring you NEED to pay, if you like to use swimming pool with FREEZING water you need to pay. Overall this whole complexis very rin down and poorly maintained. Better to go to Kundasang for free breathtaking views.
Marino T — Google review
place is pretty far out but worth coming for the hike to the 2 waterfalls. note that the langanan waterfall hike is pretty tough and requires hikers to start it before 9/10am. only went to the nearer waterfall and spent an hour there. there are mini fishes in the shallow waters where you can dip your feet into. very fun! there’s a restaurant inside for you to grab a meal - food was delicious.
Anna K — Google review
Well-maintained (improved from the last time I came. Price breakdown for one adult: Parking RM5 for 1 car, park entrance fee RM10, cold water pool with slides RM3, hot water pool RM10. There is also private bathtub room with RM35 per room The toilet is clean. The area is clean. The counter receptionist is friendly. Good job Sutera Sanctuary Lodges team.
Syazwani — Google review
50rm entrance fee for foreigners and 10rm for malaysians. I partly understand the higher tax for foreigners and if it.s for conservation purposes i.m happy to pay it. But this is one of the very few times when i feel scammed. The canopy walk was closed for maintenance, the rafflesia was not in the blooming season, the biggest hot spring was closed as well, the small ones were just some small bathtubs with faucets, Langanan Waterfall could only be reached if starting the hike before 10am (the park opens at 9am) and the butterfly had just a few butterflies. The disappointment was that none of this info was told at the ticket office, neither was it available on the park website. So basically the highlight of our visit was a 4m high waterfall and the A/C where they had the dead bugs. Would have never willingly paid 50rm for that..

Good Experience of the hot spring. They have butterfly farm, botanical garden and water fall. But restaurant only have one.

Sabah Tea Resort in Ranau offers a unique breakfast experience with a backdrop of lush tea plantations and stunning natural scenery. The resort's restaurant serves fresh and healthy morning dishes made from high-quality local ingredients, including the popular choice of toast with tea jam. While the factory may appear abandoned, the cafe is fully operational and offers paid attractions such as a treetop deck and traditional costume rentals. Visitors can also enjoy various photo spots, although some areas of the tea farm may appear less dense.
Nestled among the lush green hills of Sabah, this restaurant serves more than just tea. It serves serenity. From the first sip of warm Sabah tea to the last glance at the misty hills, everything here feels like a postcard. If you’re ever in need of a peaceful escape paired with hearty local flavours, this is the place. Highly recommended for tea lovers, nature seekers, and anyone who needs a deep breath of calm.
Mrsrozanna — Google review
The farm isn’t very big and the tea plants aren’t neatly arranged so if you’re expecting something like Cameron Highlands, this isn’t quite it. But on the bright side you can cover the whole area pretty quickly. It can get hot, so wear something light and bring an umbrella. Most of the activities and attractions are in one area, which makes it easy to get around. The tree house canopy walkway was short and not too high, don’t expect anything super adventurous but it gives a nice bird’s-eye view of the ladang. It’s also quite breezy up there. The cafe was okay. The scones weren’t great, but the tomyam was good. We also had salted egg prawn, which was pretty sedap. Plenty of parking too, so no worries there. Tips: Get the exotic flavour series of Sabah Tea as a souvenir. I grabbed a few, lemongrass, cinnamon and ginger. Wanted to try the agarwood tea at the cafe but it was sold out and I couldn’t find it at the souvenir shops either. When I tried looking elsewhere, they only had the usual teh o ais type. Thank god i got some already at the farm!
Rabi'atul A — Google review
Stopped by Sabah Tea Restaurant for a quick bite — we only had the pancakes, which were average in taste, nothing special. But the menu does offer some unique local dishes, and we saw other diners enjoying their food, so maybe the other items are better. The view of the tea plantation adds a nice touch, though it’s not exactly stunning — parts of it look a bit abandoned or not well maintained. Still, it’s a peaceful spot to sit and relax with a cup of tea. They also have a souvenir shop, but the prices are really expensive. Even the tea costs more than what you’d pay for the same Sabah Tea at retail shops down the hill.
Mamaamiey — Google review
Wont come here again and not recommended. Service is fast, venue is well maintained, view is nice. My friend ordered tomyam noodles and had “worm” on the prawn. Nobody apologised for the worm but only said free of charge for the tomyam noodles but I couldnt continue to eat my mee hoon curry. We also found a fly in Teh Tarik Pandan and the waffles is below average. Additional 1 hour drive here from kundasang is not worth it
Sarah N — Google review
June 2025 Nice place to chill and relax for short drink. Ordered teh pandan cold RM 7.00, tham cold RM 9.00, and pandan waffle RM 18.00. Total RM 34
David L — Google review
The drive to this place is scenic and beautiful, but do note that some parts of the road are bumpy with potholes and damages—drive carefully. It gets quite hot in the area, but there’s ample parking. There’s a tree house with a short canopy walk, which is chargeable for 10 minutes (price is shown in the picture attached). We enjoyed a lovely walk along the tea plantation trail—great for taking photos and soaking in the lush greenery but bear in mind when we were there, the place was super hot. So some umbrellas or hats are advisable. We didn’t try their actual hot or cold teas, so we can’t comment on that. We only had some snacks, desserts, and drinks. Here’s what we tried: • Green tea smoothie was not good • Sirap Bandung was average • Banana fritters were okay • Green tea pancake was decent • Green tea ice cream was good • Mixed fruit platter was alright (pineapple was a bit sour, but watermelon was okay) They have traditional clothings for rent for those who are interested. Overall, it’s a nice place to visit for nature lovers and casual bites, with photo-worthy surroundings.
アイシャ — Google review
Nice food from the set menu of rm40 each. Would have been interesting to have an informative or educational tour of the history and process of tea making.
Joan L — Google review
The food here is not up to taste. Kimchi fried rice tasted bland for a kimchi?! Sweet sour fish tasted more like sweet sauce. The most dish that I am super frustrated is the FISH FINGER. How can you serve FISH CAKE as fish finger in a RM30 DISH?!!!! RIDICULOUS! Please improve and use right fillets!!!!! The tea? Not so good to me. The scone? So so but at least that’s the most edible we could have here. Meanwhile they have no good view here, just a short hanging bridge but is chargeable at rm5 per head haha not worth it at all. It’s not like you can get a view out of it. Bad experience here I must say.

Mount Kinabalu, standing at 13,435 feet, is a majestic peak located in Mount Kinabalu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malaysia. The park is home to diverse flora and fauna, including orangutans. Trekking to the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views that are truly awe-inspiring. Porters are available for hire to help carry equipment up the mountain.
An amazing experience. Even though the cost for foreigners is INSANE, I had a great time. The sunrise is really the highlight so make sure you make it up in time. For seasoned hikers this summit is super easy, I made it up in 4.5 hours total. The infrastructure on the route is impressive but the amount of stairs really takes away from the climb, I found it incredibly easy.

Great mountain for natural reserved views. There’s many activities available such as ATV/ paragliding. Can consider to join a tour if don’t want to drive up. Paragliding waited for 3 hours which not that efficient. Play time was for only 4 minutes. Weather changes fast so must check make sure the weather is good before heading there. ATV is true jungle like. Huge and fun. Mountain view is great with cloud in the middle of the mountain

My greatest achievement in life has been to conquer a mountain peak. It brings real satisfaction at my age of 52 years old. It was quite challenging, but the scenery made all the effort feel worthwhile. I highly recommend this experience to all Malaysians.
Norman M — Google review
Mount Kinabalu is truly one of the most stunning places on Earth. The views at every stage of the climb are breathtaking, from lush tropical rainforest at the base to the granite peaks near the summit. It’s no wonder this is the highest mountain in Southeast Asia — standing at 4,095 meters, it feels like you’re on top of the world. The 2 days, 1 night hike is challenging but absolutely worth it. Most climbers start on day one from Timpohon Gate, trekking for about 5 to 7 hours to reach Laban Rata, where everyone stays overnight. The trail can be tough — lots of stairs, steep inclines, and changing terrain — but the cool air and scenic forest make it enjoyable. The accommodations at Laban Rata are simple but comfortable enough to recharge for the big summit push. The second day starts very early, usually around 2 am, for the summit climb. It’s dark, cold, and steep, but reaching Low’s Peak just before sunrise is an unforgettable experience. Watching the first rays of light break over the horizon and illuminate the clouds below makes all the effort worthwhile. The sense of achievement is unmatched — standing there, knowing you’ve reached the highest point in all of Southeast Asia, is beyond words. If you’re planning to go, train beforehand and take it slow on the climb. Every step is worth it once you see those incredible mountain views. Mount Kinabalu isn’t just a hike; it’s a life experience you’ll never forget.

The peak of kinabalu is amazing. It's worth seeing, even if you don't plan on going to the top (the entrance is outrageously expensive). You have to plan your visit to this place well, because it's quite difficult to get there by public transport, we chose an organized tour (it cost quite a lot - I have doubts whether the attractions vs. the price were worth it). Probably a much better way is to rent a car, then you have no restrictions and you can organize the trip according to your needs. Regardless, I recommend seeing this mountain. Near the top there are other attractions such as a fish spa, canopy walk, and you can also see the largest flower in the world, the rafflesia. Everyone will find attractions here that are just right for them.

1. Start at 9 am on 28.08.2025. 2. Took 3.15 hours to reach Pondok Layang-Layang. 3. Wind begins to start very strong and with rain. 4. Had quick lunch and with rain coat starts walking again. 5. Strong wind and rain all the way to Panabalan. 6. Temperature was cold, 8 Celsius. 7. Time for dinner and rest. 8. Got up and ready for supper at 2am. 9. Ready for summit attack. 10. Officer came to announce that summit is closed due to strong wind. 11. It was a great experience and given another chance, would like to make it to Summit.
Adam M — Google review
I self organised my own climb and it was significantly cheaper than using some of the extortionate tour packages. It's a bit harder to organise as there is not a ton of clear info and fully up to date websites on how to do it, but it's possible to figure it out if your fine with the added hassle. I booked 8 months in advance and got the 2nd to last spot for my trip date. At the time of posting I paid maybe 900myr to self organise, including all relevant permits, transport to and from Mt. Kinabalu from KK, 1 night accomodation prior to the climb and guide fees etc. other tours for the same offering are going for like 2400+ to 2600+. You need to book early though to secure your panalaban hostel accommodation!! The claim up is about 4km of mainly stairs. The trail is pretty well maintained but it's still a tough climb up, going from hot and humid jungle gradually up to more rocky terrain for the final 2km to the camp. Camp is cold and super windy so bring lots of layers to keep you warm. It can get tough sleeping at night without warm sleepwear. The final ascent starts at 2.30am to get you to the summit. If your fast, you get to see a beautiful sunrise after scrambling up mainly flat rockfaces with assistance ropes. The wind and cold make this a tough one, and so does the altitude. The views are great but the peak can be busy. Descending does wonders in your knees. I didn't take poles and highly recommend using them if you go to save some aches and pains later. Overall it was a good challenge and a rewarding climb. The only thing I dislike is that the prices, especially for international visitors are so high. They have risen much higher than inflation due to the monopoly that a few tour companies seem to hold over the limited daily climb permits. You can check historic reviews from a few years ago to see the price gouging going on.

Nestled within the breathtaking Mount Kinabalu, the Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden is a paradise for nature lovers. The well-maintained trails offer a leisurely stroll amidst a diverse array of vibrant flowers, exotic plants, and rare orchids. Visitors can revel in the tranquil atmosphere with the soothing sound of flowing water and the harmonious melodies of birds and insects. The garden's affordable entrance fee makes it an accessible destination for immersing oneself in nature's wonders.
I visited the botanical garden in Kinabalu Park. The air was very clear in the morning, and the temperature was around 25 degrees, which was cool and didn't make me tired even while walking. In this botanical garden, you can observe many endemic and wild plants of Borneo, such as orchids, ferns, mosses, and carnivorous plants. It is a must-visit spot for plant lovers! There are quite a few insects, so if you're not fond of them, please take insect repellent measures. We enjoyed the botanical garden with explanations about the plants from a local guide. If you are staying at a hotel near Kinabalu Park and can visit this park early in the morning, you can enjoy birdwatching. Please give it a try.
Kazu-kun — Google review
We visited Kinabalu Park as part of a guided day tour, and our primary focus was the Botanical Garden within the vast and picturesque park. Though our tour covered the entry fees — RM 50 for foreign visitors to the park and RM 5 for the Botanical Garden. We felt the visit was worthwhile as a brief stop amidst other local attractions. While the garden showcases a variety of flora, our experience would have been better had there been more orchids and any Rafflesia in bloom. If you're primarily interested in wildlife, be advised that animal sightings were limited to the occasional squirrel, lizard, and butterflies. The garden does offer a chance to appreciate the delicate beauty of a damp forest environment. We did not hike Mount Kinabalu, which wasn’t part of our itinerary, thus our exploration was restricted to the paths. We spent around 30 minutes wandering through the garden before moving on. Overall, while it may not warrant a dedicated trip, it serves as a pleasant interlude in a day filled with other local sights.

People will see different value in the botanical gardens depending on their level of interest in plants and whether or not they have a guide to explain things to them or not. This was an additional fee to the national park entry however from memory this was a very low fee. I came here by myself unguided and to me, the main appeal was just the photography. I got lucky in that there was a low hanging mist and fog through the gardens which made for some cool photos. However I think you would get more value from this if you did it with a guide who could point out the different types of plants to you. The Browne Town.

Located within the Kinabalu Park, and known for its rich biodiversity and well-maintained trails. You can choose to explore it on your own or hire an optional guide to enhance your experience with detailed insights into the unique flora, including rare orchids and pitcher plants. The trek takes approximately 15 to 45 minutes, depending on your pace and curiosity. With easy-to-navigate paths and scenic surroundings, it’s an excellent spot for a peaceful stroll amidst nature.

You can park inside the park. Just pay 5 RM at the gate together with the park fee (RM 50 per adult, 25 per child). No need to book in advance. Cash only. Inside, there are many trails. We parked at the restaurant and hiked 3 different trails. It is very nice but a bit tricky to find the entrances. Once on the path, it is beautiful.

Hiking area
Maragang Hill offers a slightly challenging yet rewarding activity with the promise of a breathtaking sunrise and cool temperatures. It is considered the highest hill in Malaysia, and the leisurely hike takes less than 2 hours. Despite the fatigue, the unforgettable panoramic views make it all worthwhile. The hike leads to a viewpoint where visitors can witness stunning sunrises, although it can get crowded at times. As it is privately operated, visitors need to register in town and hire a guide for an additional fee.
If you're the kind of person who thrives in the open air, lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails – you won't regret it.
Rolland S — Google review
It is a nice short hike to a view point (40mins at a good pace) - it is a really good view for sunrise but was busy -70ppl on a few raised platforms. It is privately operated so you have to register in the town 25 MYR and 100MYR for a guide (can be shared). I followed an offline map and didn’t realise this as there was no signage - in the end they tried to fine me for trespassing (starting at 150-100MYR) and locked up my bike. Eventually they let agreed to let me go to the registration centre to discuss with the manager (a really nice guy who let me explain the situation and let me pay the entrance fee and continue on my way). Bit disappointed the guards were so hostile and asking for a fine that they were clearly going to pocket but technically I was in the wrong and the company did end up coming to a fair outcome. As much as I don’t enjoy guided walks when you don’t need a guide this wasn’t worth the ball break to resolve the issue.

Local produce market! Many stalls with local produce from vegetables to fruits. They have wild durians that are a single seed. Found some vegetables that are specific to Kundasang like their big spring onions and a curly swirly veg (duno official name) that I like. They also have a section for potted plants. Pretty flowers. Arnab Village in Ranau, Sabah is a haven for animal lovers and families with small children. It is the first and largest rabbit park in Malaysia, home to over 1000 well-cared-for rabbits of various breeds such as Satin, Angora, Rex, New Zealand White, Holland hoop, Lionhead and Netherland Dwarf. The surroundings are clean and safe for visitors to interact closely with the friendly rabbits and other animals like tortoises.
We visited in 2025 and they gave an offer of rm13 for 2 sites. The first site is within the Arnab village compound which comprises of the playground, pet cemetery, rabbit farm and tortoise sanctuary. The 2nd site is the magical garden. The first site is very compact. I really do enjoy playing with the goat and the sheep’s. They are really grown up. I remember the goat and the sheep trying to grab the food at the food counter and they tried to force themselves in to grab the food. The counter girl quickly chase them out and close the door. Sooo cute.. As for the magical garden, after we exit from site 1, along the main road, we need to walk up about 150 meters to that destination.

It was raining when we came so we didn’t get to interact with all the animals like the tortoises and the ducks. But we did get to meet the many fluffy bunnies and it was nice that they let us pet and carry them. Its a pity that the cat mania was not open, would have loved to meet some local cats.

Arnab Village is a small but charming spot nestled deep in a rural area, so getting there can be a bit tricky due to the narrow, bumpy roads. There’s an entrance fee, but it’s worth it for a fun family outing. During our visit, the rabbits were kept in cages, but we could still feed and play with them, even take them out — which was a fun experience! Food for animals is available to purchase. The goats and sheep roaming freely were hilarious — some even tried to nibble on our clothes, clearly hungry and cheeky! 🐐😂 Chickens with unique “hairstyles” wandered around too, along with tortoises and geese. There are some cute, Instagrammable spots especially for kids. It was a very hot day when we went, and there wasn’t much shade, so do bring water, sunscreen, and maybe a portable fan. Overall, a great time — the kids loved it! Hope the place continues to be well-maintained.

Rabbits, chicken, goose and turtle paradise. Animals had plenty roaming (and also pooping) space. Everything OK just that you need to endure the Snow White music being played.
Jeremy W — Google review
Just visited this place today. The place was nice but it is not well-maintained now. The most devastating thing to see is how unwell the rabbits were. Most of them were sick and should be quarantined, but they were placed in the same captivity even though it’s the different cages. There was a dead one lying in the cage, and a few others were timid and unresponsive. There were some younger hopeful ones which should be treated way better, not placed among the sick. It was a sad experience as the rabbits, which the place got it’s name from, should be well taken care off. Really hope that proper actions could be taken. Other animals like the tortoise, chickens and sheeps were in better health.

If you're an animal enthusiast, the Alpaca Club in Kundasang is a must-visit destination. This charming alpaca farm offers a serene setting with the magnificent Mount Kinabalu as a backdrop. The petting zoo allows visitors to interact with these gentle and furry creatures, feed them, and capture memorable moments with them. In addition to alpacas, the club also houses rabbits, guinea pigs, and hedgehogs for visitors to enjoy.
The view is beautiful. The alpacas are very cute, and there are rabbits too. Visits are scheduled, and they’ll give you instructions. The staff is very friendly and helps take good photos. Entrance fee is 35 ringgit per person, and you can buy tickets at the counter—no need to book in advance. A great experience.

The Alpaca Club, located on Jalan Cinta Mata in Kampung Mesilou, is home to alpacas that originate from South America. Often mistaken for llamas, alpacas are a distinct species despite belonging to the same lamoid family. To differentiate, alpacas are generally smaller in size compared to llamas. The Alpaca Club is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., with designated visiting slots to avoid overcrowding. Each visit lasts 20 minutes, during which guests receive information about the alpacas, interact with them by touching and feeding, and take photos as souvenirs. Entrance: 20RM including taking photos with the alpacas. The rabbits look like they’re in a sad state because some of them have abscess not sure because they fight or that they are kept in unhygienic conditions. They have clear rules about touching and feeding the alpacas, to ensure the safety of the visitors.
Donovan L — Google review
The alpaca is adorable and affectionate with the caretakers. Many people wonder why the prices are high, one of the reason is because the food must be imported. Nonetheless it's fantastic experience for both adults and kids.

A fun and fluffy stop hehe. One of the highlights of my trip. There were quite a number of alpacas and you get to touch them up close, super cute! Can feed them too for RM3 per bowl. Entry is RM20 per person and you get 30 mins with the alpacas + 10 mins with the rabbits. The place isn’t that big, so it made for a quick and easy stop. Plenty of parking available too. Honestly, not many people are giving this place the love it deserves compared to the cow farm, but really, both are equally fun. Just different vibes. This one’s totally worth a quick visit.

We drove about 2+ hours to get there but left disappointed after barely 10 minutes because there was nothing much to do and see in this farm. The farm is as big as a backyard and you can barely see any strawberries. There is a little cafe with a few strawberry tarts and cakes. Manage your expectations.
Stardust C — Google review
Not much to see and do, even if you come for picture taking would barely make it worthwhile. It’s a very small compound consisting of a strawberry farm (to say it’s a farm is an overstatement, a small cafe and a souvenir shop - all of which is very abysmal. What more after I pay RM 3 for parking. The strawberry pie is a standout however and must try!
Ahmad R — Google review
don’t waste your time to come here, really nothing much to see and they still charge 5RM for the entrance fee. The strawberries were not in season so there’s nothing to pluck. We bought a punnet of strawberries (18RM) and it’s not even that sweet. Felt that it’s overpriced. They also have some pop up stalls selling strawberry dipped in chocolate and other souvenirs. Nothing much to do here.

Mesilou Highland Strawberry Farm 🍓 turned out just as I hoped . a nice escape to sit back and breathe in the cool air. Even when the crowd slowly came in, the calm atmosphere stayed the same. Sitting upstairs felt relaxing, with a simple view that matched the mood. The cake and chocolate strawberries were delightful, especially for true strawberry lovers. But what stood out most for me was the strawberry matcha!perfectly balanced, refreshing, and something I’d come back for again. A place that doesn’t try too hard, yet leaves you satisfied in the simplest way ❤️

A modest strawberry farm. The entry fee is RM3. Strawberries were there but scarce, so there wasn't much to do or see. There's a small coffee shop selling 🍓focused desserts/ pastries/ drinks.

1. No strawberries top pluck. 2. Cafe cake is too sweet, and full of colouring, not my type of food, even my kids not ok with it. The coffee is instant coffee. Very disappointed. 3. The view is good. 4. The strawberry drink is too sweet.
Shiuh Y — Google review
A popular stopover after visiting the Desa Farm in Kundasang. Entrance road to this farm is not well maintained. Reasonable entrance fee of RM3 per pax. The place is not big and there are not many spots you can visit. Most visitors stop by for desserts that made of strawberries.

Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping is a lodge and campground nestled in the Highlands countryside, about 100 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu. The journey to this rainforest retreat takes around 2.5 hours, offering visitors breathtaking views of Mount Kinabalu and the surrounding nature. The accommodation includes basic rooms with shared kitchen facilities, while campers can enjoy ample space for a comfortable stay.
We stayed at Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping for 2 nights and were absolutely blown away by the stunning views of Kundasang and Mount Kinabalu. Waking up to the majestic mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings was a truly unforgettable experience. The cool air and natural setting made it the perfect spot to unwind. Breakfast was included and simple yet satisfying. The rooms and shared spaces were clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. That said, getting there is not for the faint-hearted. The drive from the city to Ranau and up to the accommodation was quite terrifying at times, with damaged roads, steep uphill sections, and areas affected by landslides (tanah runtuh). We highly recommend driving a higher-powered vehicle, as the route includes sharp climbs and uneven surfaces where a stronger engine makes a real difference. Despite the challenging journey, the incredible views and peaceful atmosphere at the top made it all worth it. A perfect mountain retreat — just come prepared!

The hotel is beautiful, the was quite small for us three, food was ok can be improve. But the scenery is superb. Quick note to everyone who want to stay in this hotel. Its quite far in from Kundasang and if you guys rented a car, please get a Pick-up truck or SUV. The roads are pretty bad. We kind a regret drove Bezza.
Naim ( — Google review
Stayed here with family on March 2025, when my brother in law came to visit. The road leading to the lodging is quite bumpy and goes far into the interior, so do expect a bit of a rough drive. Getting a clear view of Mount Kinabalu is entirely up to luck the weather plays a big role. If it rained the day before, the chances of seeing the mountain are low due to mist or clouds. The farmstay is located in Bundutuhan, which is slightly farther from the actual base of Mount Kinabalu. The surrounding area is spacious and green, but can get muddy during rainy days. There are basic cooking and BBQ facilities available outdoor. No kitchen available indoor or in the room. The room itself is nothing fancy, but comfortable enough for a simple overnight stay. This place is quite popular on Xiao Hong Shu, so it can get crowded during peak seasons. There’s also an on-site restaurant with a simple menu, the food was okay, but nothing memorable. Room rates are budget friendly, and they also offer camping options around the area. The staff were polite but not particularly proactive or helpful, don’t expect much assistance, and it's quite hard to locate them at the reception if you need anything. One thing to note is you’ll need to remove your shoes before entering the main building. If your room is on the upper floor, you’ll be walking barefoot or in socks upstairs. Overall, it was just an okay experience not bad, but nothing memorable either.

The scenery is breathtaking! It's a bit chilly up here, so prepare your sweaters and jackets. It was pori g rain when we're here, so before going, you might want to check the weather
Liyana A — Google review
Stayed for a night here. Honestly, nothing much to highlight about the accommodation itself — it was really just the view of Mount Kinabalu that stood out (though, to be fair, many other places in the area also offer that view). Check-in was fine. If the receptionist isn’t around, you’ll need to call the number on the counter card, or wait until a passing staff member to inform the receptionist of your presence. The room was reasonably clean, but in my opinion, not worth the price compared to other nearby options. The toilet looks better than the room itself. To make matters worse, there was a power outage from about 11 pm until 4 am. Luckily, it rained throughout the night, otherwise the room would have been unbearably stuffy. Oddly enough, the spotlight outside our room was still working during the outage 🤔. Breakfast was included, but quite disappointing. Understandably, ingredients may be harder to source in this area, but the spread was so uninspiring that I didn’t even feel like taking photos. Service was another letdown. The three staff on duty at the canteen (two ladies, one gentleman) were unfriendly, almost as if we were inconveniencing them. An elderly lady even wrongly accused me of not handing over my breakfast voucher, despite the fact I’d been eating for over 30 minutes by then. Thankfully, her colleague corrected her, but the interaction left a sour taste. The food itself wasn’t appetising, though I still ate a little out of my “Asian mindset” — wanting to at least get some value for what I paid. Overall, while I do plan to return to Kundasang in the future, this accommodation won’t be on my list again. Side note: If you’re driving a rental car, please take extra care on the way here. The road conditions are terrible, with multiple metal rods sticking out — a real risk for puncturing your tyres.
Yat N — Google review
Best view ever facing Mount Kinabalu from directly my room, well maintained garden and compound, reasonable price, staff are good, room is clean and maintained well. Breakfast is good, they refilled the food to make sure all have taken hearty breakfast. Saw few giving bad comments on staff friendliness, food quality, I believe these ppl are rude and over demand.
Tan C — Google review
overall a pretty decent budget accommodation boasting excellent views. booked the dormitory to stay and contacted them through whatsapp (they were very responsive and quick with my questions 👍) it is pretty far from everything (minimally 30min drive from the main road to the accoms), but i would say its very worth the rocky and hilly 30min drive in, given the amazing views. love the late check in (latest 9pm) as it is really accommodating and check-in was quick and fuss free. RM60/night for a single bed in the dorms, with a shared toilet next to the dorms. it’s an open air toilet so do expect many bugs around. there are hangers in the showers to hang your clothes, not bad! the dorms were generally clean although the insect nets covering the doors are broken so bugs do find their way in (prepare insect repellent!!) there’s a cafe located in the accoms (opening hours are 7am-11am and 5pm-9pm) with 7am-930am being buffet breakfast. food cooked by the chef was good and menu items were affordable and delicious. there’s tables and chairs and a patio around the accoms, very vibes to chill and enjoy a meal! cons: - only 2 plugs located in one corner of the room, so best to bring an extension cord so there’s sufficient plugs for everyone - broken insect netting in the rooms means insects find their way in - no toilet paper, bring your own - room has no fan or anything, ventilation pretty poor if room was packed but during my 4 night stay i was alone so wasn’t that bad - very far out from the main road, no facilities nearby (outside food etc. are minimally 30min away but there’s a cafe in the accoms so you’ll be able to find food) overall, a very pleasant 4 night stay with friendly staff. will be back!

Good place for short trip ~ Pros : Affordable and clean Very nice view which can see Mount Kota Kinabalu There are 3 cats here which can play with during night time There is a cafe open 5-9pm Breakfast provided for 2 person per room and if you are having a quad room (4persons) have to add on 2 more person RM 20 each Cons: Road conditions is quite poor which is very challenging, might need to be more careful Nothing much can do during night time

Tagal Sg. Moroli Kg. Luanti, located in Ranau, offers a unique fish spa experience where visitors can enjoy a 15-minute massage from various fish in the river, leaving their feet feeling rejuvenated. The term 'Tagal' signifies no fishing in the local Kadazan-Dusun dialect and reflects the community's efforts to preserve the environment and ecosystem for future generations.
We had a great time here. Since we came on a weekday, the time spent was unlimited due to fewer tourists. Reasonable entrance fee. Fish pellets (optional) can be purchased at the counter, allowing you to feed the fish for an extra experience. The place is near Sabah Tea. Once you finish your business here, do visit the tea plantation at Sabah for lunch, dinner, or tea time.

There are so many big fishes!! But it was fun! The place is clean and the water is surprisingly fresh and calming. I love the scenery and love to see those fishes. You could buy their food for RM 1 and there is entrance fee but I am not sure how much but it was affordable!

a lot of fish. not sure what kind of fish. the small one can bite or suck pretty hard at your feet.

A local community initiative. It's an experience you won't likely forget in a long time. The smaller fish nibble hard, while the bigger fish nibble gently. You will either feel "geli" or totally enjoy it. But worth experiencing.

During our visit the ticket counter was moved to other site which is not to far from fish spa itself but I recommend you to drive there. Overall it was a satisfying visit there with all those fish around your leg. Feel a bit tickle for first time but should be fine later on.

Fish massage? Swim with a lot of fish? Scared the fish or vice versa? This is the place. The enjoyment swim and feed the fish. Great and clean rivers. Really enjoying the nature of clean river and forest vibes. Ticket prices is very cheap. Feed the fish RM5. Feed and swim with fish together enjoying the fresh rivers RM5. The experience and peaceful, Priceless.

Nabalu Kundasang Lodge is a simple hotel located in Kundasang town, offering basic rooms with mountain views and complimentary breakfast. The lodge's location is convenient, with nearby eateries, shops, and a mosque. While the rooms are modest and lack amenities like air conditioning and mini-fridges, the overall comfort level is decent. Visitors can enjoy the fantastic mountain views from this quiet small town, although cloud cover tends to form later in the day.
Really beautiful place to stay in. It have beautiful scenery, day and night. Beautiful sunrise and sunset with the view of Mount Kinabalu. The room is clean, beautiful toilet, it's not big but just enough. Breakfast service was really good. The waiter was very kind and very thoughtful. They treat their customer very well. Love the place and will like to stay there again. :)

It’s an inexpensive hotel. The location is great - 5mins walk to the town centre. The rooms are nice but in need of maintenance. In Rm 508, Bidet and washbasin tap were leaking. Mattress needs to be flipped or changed - you can actually see in sagging in the middle. I think some of the floorboards need to be relaid or replaced. And I think there needs to be some brighter lighting in the room. I would add a screen door so that the room can be ventilated without allowing insects to fly in. But all in all, it was a quaint, rustic place to stay. Comfortable enough for a couple of nights.
Susheel J — Google review
Average accommodation for family travelers / vacation. Family room was big but no air cond, no TV, refrigerator not functioning, Only 1 fan at hall area. For the price of 500 bucks/2 nights it's NOT worth it. Consider expensive as compared to what they provided to you. 1st and last check in here, will never come back to this hotel. Room Security Lock system NOT at primary security par level. For room security I opted 1/10, seriously NOT safe at all.
Ruslizan O — Google review
Booked the king room with mountain view. The room was extremely spacious and comfy. Room and toilet were clean although everything does looks dated. Location is ideal as it is near most of the activities that you would want to do near kundasang. What was non ideal was the tap doesn't comes with hot water and the WiFi for my room was non existence. As the TV was internet only that means that is zero TV programs that you could watch. One point to note was that Celcom coverage is also bad in this hotel. Maxis is ok.

I'll just give a list of pros and cons PROS 1. Very central location. Close to town so whatever you need it is there. 2. Has a large restaurant with decent food. So if weather is bad, just eat in as they offer room service. 3. Ample parking 4. Towels were clean unlike previous comments. We used theirs though we brought our own just in case. 5. Beds were clean 6. Has a balcony so can dry clothes etc 7. Has TV with Netflix etc!! Plus for family 8. Wifi in room was ok 9. Hot shower ad tank is large so big family no issues. 10. Excellent service staff. Friendly and helpful. CONS 1. Tap water was a horror when it flowed out black sand and brown water for a good couple of minutes. A total turn off so we asked for extra bottles of water for cooking noodles and brush teeth. 2. Old place so old style furnishing and things are falling apart! 3. Toilet sewage smells a little. 4. The chalet had very very steep steps so it was horrible that we had to carry the luggage up and was not convenient for my 77 yo mum and 4yo boy so we requested a change of room to smaller one despite paying for the big room. 5. The doors at the chalet either had holes or is very shaky. Quite scary. The window at the door had no curtain so no privacy. Ppl can peep in if they want and see everything outside the room. 6. Got safe but can't use. It's broken. 7. Got coffee and cups but no teaspoon. Had to go restaurant to get some. No sugar provided. 8. Boiler leaking so we exchanged one. 9. We changed rooms for another reason. There was no TV at the chalet. They informed us during check in.
Melissa Y — Google review
Very accomodating and friendly staff that helped us even when we checked in late because of our delayed flights. Rooms are basic but clean and with all the necessities in good condition (Twin rooms). There's hot water, but you need to use low water pressure which is no issue. Friend of mine asked me to turn on the aircon, but there's none since we're already 1700m above sea level. (There is a ceiling fan however). Good location on the main road leading into Kundasang town center roundabout, meaning you're very close to shops and other attractions. Also less than 15 minutes away from Kinabalu Park entrance.
Sulaiman — Google review
I booked a deluxe twin room. But when I arrived around 3.00pm, they experienced black out and couldn't issue the room key card. They gave me the room though. I waited for an hour and a half in the room but they still couldn't fix the electricity. So they upgraded my room to chalet free of charge. The water pressure is low. They have water heater but if you take a longer shower, the hot water will run out. They have a restaurant within walking distance. The Kundasang town is just 5 minutes driving. The staff are friendly. The room is clean.

Easy to find, very conveniently located near Kundasang shops. Short drive or walking distance to The shops and stalls of Kundasang. The area is clean and relaxing. A restaurant is available in this property. You can also easily walk to the "Inilah Kundasang" street sign to take photos since parking is an issue. There are also restrooms available in this location.

Hooga Cafe @ Kundasang Farm Ville is a cozy restaurant conveniently located just 3 kilometers from Desa Dairy Farm. It's part of the Kundasang Farm Ville, making it a great stop for families and couples visiting the area. The cafe offers a variety of dishes including big breakfast, waffles, porridge, and lamb with rice.
The atmosphere was comfortable and so many mixes of different elements in terms of it's esthetic. Furthermore, the meal and drinks that the Hooga Cafe was really good and fulfilling. Lastly, the back area was completed with children's playground, "photo booths" and a whole garden of aquaponics, and I love it! Would recommend giving it a visit.

We went to Hooga Cafe on two separate occasions. The first time was for lunch time, and the other is for breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful in the decision-making of food orders for first timers. The decoration and ambiance is really nice, offering a chill indoor setting, as well as vibrant outdoor setting. They offer local, western food so the menu is extensive.

Visited this road side restaurant during our visit to Desa Farm, the taste of the food is decent at best. However, the portion of the food is larger than expected for the price. The restaurant also has an indoor garden and kiddie park which only kids are allowed to play😔😔, good for photos though.

Nice restaurant. The ambience there was great. Got many food options and also an ice cream truck available in front of the restaurant. The food quite good but a little pricey. Never thought that iced latte would be rm16 hahah. And also its halal

A excellent location for a meal. Hooga premise design is evocative. With a funfair like front entrance, rustic flair dining area with hint of industrial, cement floor and rectangular steel frame seats, to vineyard veranda backyard dining space. Plenty of instagrammable shots for even the picky ones. Had my breakfast here. The nasi lemak was oddly square but taste good. The paratha was alright, curry gravy slightly oily but not bad. I did enjoy the latte as well.. The premise was reasonably clean and service prompt. Worth dropping by.

the place is really pretty and comfortable. the food arrived fast, the service is good enough 👍🏼 the girl that served us was nice and polite too. the chicken burger was okay, but the fries was too salty. chicken chop was a bit dry. sweet sour fish with rice is okay. we were disappointed with thai chicken with rice bc the chicken was dry, and the chicken portion was not enough considering the price, especially since it was thinly sliced. but overall, our experience with this cafe was good.

Ambience is great and comfortable. Food is average but I am pleased that it is on the healthier side. A good place to chill and relax after visiting the Diary Farm nearby.

Place was nice and aesthetic. But, the food not that good. Creamy butter chicken with rice, the chicken was precooked and they just pour the sauce afterwards. Same with the bolognese chicken. Spaghetti was precooked and not fresh. Wedges taste like frozen food.

Nestled along the route to Poring Hot Springs, the Adenna Rafflesia Garden is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and flower lovers alike. This tropical garden offers a unique opportunity to witness the magnificent Rafflesia, known as the largest flower in the world. During my recent visit, I was fortunate enough to see five of these stunning blooms in their natural habitat—a truly unforgettable experience!
We were lucky enough there were three rafflesia blooming during our visit here. The entrance displayed the number of rafflesia on bloom each day. Entrance is RM30 per person. The surroundings of the garden is pretty too, with kelulut honey, cocoa trees, a small river flowing and a chance to tap rubber too!
Bernard K — Google review
It was a bit of a walk to get to see the flower. Best time to see the flower is when it blooms on the first and second day. It’s amazing to learn about the different stages of how the seed gradually grows and blooms into a big flower. The flower when bloomed only last for 7 days but it takes 9 months to gradually grow. After the flower withers, it will generate a seedling that is a fist size. Recommended to try the fried banana chips that is sold at the ticketing counter for 3RM per pack. Tastes so much better than the ones in town!
Michelle C — Google review
This place is a bit of a let down. Expensive tickets to watch a couple of flowers in cages. The flowers were likely replanted from the wild (correct if I'm wrong) and protected from the elements with plastic shade and human enclosure.

RM30pp and it's a short walk to a blooming rafflesia. Only wish they planted more native flowering plants as they are beautiful. That would make it better for tourists.

Interesting place to stop by after visiting the Poring canopy walk. We stopped car by the roadside, paid for the tickets and a little girl walked us in to show us exactly where the blooming rafflesia were at. They were actually smaller than what I had imagined. Can tell the locals there were taking good care of them, all were sheltered.

Kinabalu Park Headquarters is the main entrance to Kinabalu Park, located about 92 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu. It serves as the administrative office of Sabah and offers a visitors exhibition center, restaurants, and various amusements for tourists. The park features wonderful trails with abundant wild orchids and a well-maintained botanical garden.
Self drove here on a weekend and parking outside was already full at 8am. If you are just here to visit for a few hours and take photos... DON'T PARK OUTSIDE. DRIVE IN! At the kiosk entrance.. Tell the lady you want to drive in and park at Liwagu restaurant. Then park there for free.. Use the toilet. And take photos of the area. You can then take a short walk to visit the botanical gardens.. Such a nice place to visit.. See my photos. Then drive out and park at the visitor center. This will allow you to take photos of the mountain and use the toilet one final time before you leave the place in your car. No need to take long walks. Drive in drive out. Wish I had known this tip earlier!

Very good National park. There are lots of well marked and maintained trails and the biodiversity is staggering. Some trails were closed but the others were good however, when you feel as though you’re in the jungle, you’ll hear a car in the road adjacent and notice that you’re not as far in nature as you thought.

Hiked from Timpohon gate (entrance point) to Panalaban rest house for a distance of 6-Km and the next morning at 2.00am from Panalaban to the Peak of Mt. Kinabalu another 2.3-Km hike. It was an enjoyable journey, gaining new experience, testing self stamina, and endurance. At the same time, experiencing rock climbing, with beautiful nature (God's creation).

We joined a private Kinabalu mountain hike tour and had an unforgettable experience! The mountain guides were extremely professional – it was a 1-to-1 arrangement, and they made sure each of us was safe and well taken care of throughout the journey. We also hired porter services, so we didn’t have to carry heavy bags – which really helped us conserve energy for the climb. We spent 3 days and 2 nights on the mountain. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and we were lucky to have very good weather the entire time. After taking time to recharge, my wife pushed through and made it to the summit😆 Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a safe, supportive, and truly memorable Mount Kinabalu adventure!

Well maintained nature park. All visitors to trails must register, safety measures. Trails were easy to follow. Clear paths, clean and signages. Beware as we thought we wanted just to take one trail but the directions to trail exits were confusing, and led us to another trail. Although trail names clearly marked, the way to exit is not. On clear days, players are treated to breathtaking views of the magnificent Mount Kinabalu. The area is also known for its hiking trails that lead to the summit of Mount Kinabalu, offering trekkers stunning panoramic vistas.
Came here jsut for the buggy tour. View if the Mount Kinabalu can be seen from the golf course, provided not cloudy. Each buggy takes 2 people and guided by another buggy by the staff. Golf course is well maintained and actively being used by golfers. As we buggy tour, need to stay clear if there are players. All in tour is about 1 to 1.5 hours, passing all 18 holes. There is a cafe with morning nasilemak but the hygiene and cleanliness is questionable. Flies were flying about the uncovered food.

Beautiful scenery. Food is reasonably priced and delicious. It only had nasi leak buffet style but all the dishes tasted so good. The fried chicken is crispy and fresh!
Twocatbandits — Google review
Food is 7/10. Not that pricey if you take small-moderate amount. View must be amazing but when we came it's cloudy so cant see the mountain. One thing viral vids never show is this place is INFESTED WITH FLIESSSS. Boleh mandi dgn lalat ye.

I suggest you should come here early in the morning to have breakfast and see the beauty of mount kinabalu. The place is usually full of visitors. So make sure you come here as early as possible to get proper breakfast and great view!
Safrilia P — Google review
Don’t expect too much for the food. So-so and it’s so pricey, Cost me RM40 for these two plates of nasi lemak. And the place is full of fliessss, which made your dining experience became worse. The only plus point is the view =/
Curry — Google review
Magnificent and fantastic view of Mt Kinabalu from this point. looks unreal but it's real. they also provide @ sell food for breakfast here and definitely its the best view.
Min Z — Google review
I cannot say it is has the best maintained green but it has arguably the best view and high altitude atmosphere you can find. Rolling terrain and the magnificent backdrop makes the experience special. For non golfers a buggy tour of the golf course is an excellent option around the site.

Restaurant nya open at 7.30am. They served standard malaysian breakfast Harga affordable. Cant give a review about food taste sebab i dont eat there as no seats available for us. During my visit cant see the gunung, but still look beautiful and very calm. Got toilet, and it is clean. Please do come early to see the gunung or u can come visit during summer! Will go again and have breakfast there.

Hidden Hill Kundasang is a picturesque homestay offering mesmerizing views of Mount Kinabalu. The place provides a calming and healing vibe, making it perfect for a peaceful getaway. Visitors can enjoy the stunning scenery from the balcony or windows and take advantage of various photo spots for social media-worthy photoshoots. The homestay also offers Japanese anime character costumes and a variety of kimonos for visitors to dress up in while exploring the beautiful surroundings.
Highly suggest to drive in with four-wheel cars coz the path going in is very rough with many potholes, quite hard to parking as well. Staff are very helpful and responsive to our requests. We happened to stay in the mid-floor and the floor is super thin. You can heard the upstairs walking and talking, not recommended for light sleepers. Also shower is not strong nor very hot to a hot-shower-obsessor like me. An upside is that their beds are really comfy, sheets are clean too. They also provide good appliances like fridge, grills, stove and pots, you can get groceries from the nearby markets to cook meals. They have free yukata rental for in-house guest, if you are interested to be in costume ~ Of course the view from the stay is amazing, you only have to cross your fingers for nice weather to see great sunrises.

The place is beautiful. However the road there is quite bumpy and narrow. But the staffs is willing to assist and they're friendly. You have to walk a little bit more to reach the place. You can rent a kimono there and take pictures with your friends and family. However, there's entry fee and it comes with free drinks. Beautiful scenery.
Felina — Google review
From here, u can see the view of Mount Gunung Kinabalu summit. Its quite pretty. Japanese concept. You can take a picture wear the Japanese attire with RM29 fee per person. Entrance fee is RM10 for adult and RM5 for child. Got free drink for each person. There is Japan food here too. But, the parking inside is limited. You need to park at the hill and going down to the premise. After finish exploring the view and taking picture, u need to hike again the hill going to the parking. 😆 Quite tired and a little bit exercise by hiking.
Ms C — Google review
The road to reach here is quite challenging almost like an off-road experience, with some very deep holes along the way. But once you arrive, the place is really unique compared to others, with a beautiful Japanese theme that makes it stand out. My mom also rented a kimono here, and the price was reasonable and it really added to the whole Japanese vibe and made our visit even more special. 👘 It would be even better if the access road could be improved, as this would make the journey safer and more comfortable for visitors. I believe more people would love to come if the road conditions were upgraded. Overall, it’s a special and memorable spot. definitely worth the effort to experience something different in Kundasang!
Kizol — Google review
The view was really everything! Do book on the highest floor as the view from there is much better than the second floor. Some disclaimers is that the amenities aren’t great for cooking as there are limited plates and fridge space etc but they do provide bbq pit and have pretty affordable room service. The noise isolation between levels is also not great for light sleepers although i’m a deep sleeper so there was no problem for me but my downstairs neighbours did come up in the middle of the night to ask us to keep it down. The drive to this location is quite challenging, as many parts are uphill, single lane only, and very very steep so definitely do manage your expectations. The staff here however are the sweetest and very accommodating and the view from the rooms really do make up for all the other short comings :)
Regina — Google review
Beautiful Japanese based place to explore. Can book kimono for rm45. So beautiful but, the journey there soo bad, rip my car. Please improve the roads 😞
MNS — Google review
We had a really amazing time here with the Japanese kimono experience. The whole place was well taken care of and truly outstanding. Also, shoutout to Hana for being so kind and helpful!
Dixie C — Google review
Stayed here for 1 day and the view is lovely. It is Japanese theme homestay. And have a cafe, a yukata studio for you to wear and take pictures (If I’m not mistaken, those who stay there get to wear the yukata for free and those who didnt have to rent - Please check with the host first for confirmation). They have many photospots and to those who love to get their pictures taken, this is a great place! And the view is mesmerizing. The room is also clean and well equipped with necessary utensils. And oh! There were two LOVELY cats soo cute ❤️ But the downside is the road, the road is narrow and only one car can go in or exit. So if there is a car coming in and you want to exit - one of you have to wait. There is also a big road loophole/pithole, we are lucky cause we are using a big car. But if you car is anything but a big one, please do check with the videos shared by others on socmed so you can double check. Everything was perfect except for the road. So if I was asked will we come back here again? Yes ❤️

Nestled in the charming town of Ranau, Sably Goat Haven is a delightful destination for families and goat enthusiasts alike. This inviting haven allows visitors to interact closely with friendly goats, offering a unique opportunity to feed and even milk these adorable animals. Children can enjoy hands-on experiences while learning about goat care in a safe environment. The staff are incredibly welcoming, providing banana leaves for feeding and ensuring that the area remains clean and well-maintained.
went on weekday no holiday so no crowd at all only i was there. place is quite nice and the goats are all very friendly. the staff is also very nice and showed me how to feed the goats. RM8 for entry to pet and feed the goats so quite worth

Sably Goat Haven offers a pleasant experience, providing food for visitors to feed the goats. While the goats may display aggression, it's reassuring to note that they are not harmful. Overall, a positive encounter with the goats makes it a worthwhile visit for animal enthusiasts.

Absolutely love this place. If i could give it more stars i would. Ample space to park your car, but also maybe because it's non-peak season right now. Entrance fee is RM8 for adults and u get to pick which activity you'd like to do. I got to feed the little goats, hug them baby goats, play with them a bit. Then i also get to milk a goat. I can say they are very well taken care of. Happy goats 🐐 Worth to visit again and again. The area is clean and well mantained. There's a cafe there as well selling goats' milk & hot/cold beverages. I had the goatcino (cute name, yes). Oh and most importantly... the keepers/staff are really friendly and really good company 😊😊😊 this place is a must visit if you happen to be in ranau or kundasang area.

Visited here with my children during school holiday. Not much information gotten in google maps so i decided to upload mine here so it useful for others visitor as well. The staff there is so friendly and full of knowledge about the goats, the goats is clean and well taken care. Overall, it’s very therapeutic / satisfying worth of visit as we are so lucky to came with little to no people. Good for the kids bonding with animal as the goats is trained by them.

Great place to visit. Owner and staffs very friendly. Entrance ticket is RM8/adult and that includes milking and feeding goats with banana leaves. The goats are super friendly and will welcome you or even want to follow you home! Great place to visit, better experience than Desa Dairy farm which have many restrictions. This one you can get close-up experience. Owner really love his goats. Found out that they plan to expand the place into a mini zoo in future potentially. Worth visiting again.
Nancy S — Google review
The place is clean and no bau kambing at all. We arrived at 4.50pm so didnt get to enter and play with the goat. So we tried the lamb and beef burger premium by GTR burger at the cafe. The staff is friendly tapi when i asked extra bawang, dia cakap ‘ada sudah bawang ni’. 😩😩. I know, i just want extra. Padahal kami last customer. Why not bagi ja extra? Will pay juga bah. The premium burger dont feels and taste like premium at all. Beef Rm13 lamb Rm17, not worth it. Sehelai salad, 2-3hiris bawang, sauce biasa ja. Will not buy again. The road is horrible. Rata ja not hilly tapi berlubang sana sini. So, think twice before go. And no signboard at simpang 3 lepas masuk di simpang dari jalan utama padahal dari roundabout Poring pun ada sudah signboard Sably Goat Haven. Overall, will come again to play with the goat and hopefully the road is okay by that time. Good luck team Sably Goat Haven!

Gathering Village is a great choice for a family weekend getaway or special occasions with friends. The chalet can accommodate 10-25 people and offers comfortable bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, private balcony, BBQ & steamboat facilities, and a beautiful garden. Guests can enjoy unobstructed views of Mount Kinabalu and the surrounding greenery. While some guests found the rooms to be slightly run down, others appreciated the newness and cleanliness of the place.
Recommended by a friend, and my family really loved it! The weather was wonderfully coldddd so please bring thick clothes, and the sunrise view was absolutely amazing. It’s away from town, so it felt private and peaceful, which we enjoyed a lot. We stayed in Lot 6, and while it’s cozy for 5 people, it’s a bit tight. It would be great if the owner added a tier storage rack for luggage. I was a bit worried about the reviews mentioning flies, but luckily, we didn’t see any during our stay. The water heater worked fine too, so no issues there. Also, reception room provides enough essential stuff to buy, we buy for our bbq. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the stay!
Kimberly — Google review
We stayed in Lot 6. It cost us around RM300 yet the room was incredibly dirty. The beds looked like they weren’t really cleaned, like the sheets weren’t changed at all. It still had hair and debris. The small kitchen area even had a leftover riceball from a previous guest’s stay. This shows that the room definitely wasn’t cleaned properly. Yet the lot had a policy of asking guests to clean up properly or there would be additional charges. The whole roof lining of the lot was stained as seen in the pictures attached. Some light switches weren’t even usable. Me and my friends weren’t even comfortable staying for more than 3 hours. The only pro side was the view though, staff didn’t take responsibility also, just gave reasons which we suspect were just lazy excuses. We wouldn’t recommend it at all.
Yi L — Google review
We have 16 people and rented lot 7 and lot 6. The time when we arrived the water heater was not working for lot 7 as the water pressure was 0. Water heater will not function when they don't detect a pressure from the inlet. So we have to wait for quite a while for them to just switch on the pressure pump which I think they should have done before we check in at 3pm. So we all ended up taking shower after they have done the fixing until 6:30pm. As for the room. Even though the weather is cold but I still think a certain air ventilation is still needed or at least a mosquito netting for their windows so we can open them and not be afraid of insects entering our rooms. There are just TOO MANY INSECTS!!! The whole room feels too stuffy and my son's head was soaking wet from his own sweat. Even a cheap wall fan adjusted to lower level one to keep the room with certain airflow will be very well appreciated. In summary you only have a well maintained garden but failed in providing a proper homestay facilities. I'm not sure if the owner have tried staying in these homestay to really assess the situation.
Jon 6 — Google review
Something unexpected is that my room is connected to the reception office. A room of 4 pax with kitchen is quite small, but fortunately it has everything you need. The bathroom is clean and comfortable. It is surrounded with flowers and pine trees. Very beautiful garden. Early in the morning and during night is freezing cold. Everything is great but unfortunately during the day you have to deal with many flies. Like a bunch of flies. I heard the worker said there is chicken farm nearby, but good thing is there isn't any smells.
Zheng K — Google review
We stayed at the family house, needed 2 houses as we are bigg family. Road to go there a bit challenging, need to go thru the jem at Mesilau road, and gravel road to up to gathering village. But yeah small car still can pass thru it. View for Mount K was a bit obstructed coz of another house in front of us. But overall view is good. Facilities the best, i like the heater as it working unlike some of homestay at Kundasang 🙃 But yeah as complaint that i read in google, we had the same problemm which is the fliesss, lalat everywhere, even one or 2 enter our bedroom🥲 haha. Hmmm to go again? Maybe need to think first heee
Seha Z — Google review
Had the worst experience staying here. Was really excited and thought highly of the place once we arrived as the view was pretty nice and the surroundings were well kept but that excitement disappeared real quick. The unit we got was incredibly unhygienic, with flies everywhere and a leaking ceiling. And the fridge had a rancid smell too. Then for a unit meant for 10 with two bathrooms, only one shower could work. But service was decent, the receptionist and the other workers were friendly.
Zia T — Google review
Spent 3 days 2 nights here. Arrived by afternoon and the road up to the homestay itself was totally unpaved gravel and had all kinds of potholes (be careful, those who rent cars) and greeted by at least 500 flies around the courtyard. Unsurprisingly, 3 people came down with severe vomitting and diarrhoea the next day (even though we really tried our best to keep the flies away) and couldn't even rest when there was loud construction noise going on outside. House was also badly leaking all over when it was raining, not to mention how stuffy and stagnant the air in the house was, as there was no insect netting, and if we opened the window, flies would've come inside. The water heater was an experience as it sometimes would turn cold halfway through bathing. Service was fine as the workers were helpful and there is a small mart that sells water, soda and instant noodles. View? I added the best-looking ones, but personally, I dont think it's anything worth. Terrible experience in and out, our trip was ultimately ruined by the group's food poisoning.
James M — Google review
Got a good location, view also not bad, environment also nice. Cleanness 8/10. BBQ place is good but not for lots of people. Is not quiet here next house karaoke and open loud music from noon till midnight and reception no control them. Is disturbing others and environment. If u looking for quiet place to relax this is not the right place for u and If u want to big party to create lots of noise this is the good place.

It's an ideal spot for busy travelers who want to grab delicious side dishes without the hassle of cooking.
my fav place to buy cheap evening tea time sweet snacks ☺️, from price RM1 for 3pieces of kueh (local made pastry) what else you ask for? everything taste delicous, and it's a great place to see/taste/buy authentic ranau food.

Ranau night market; although less than 20 people work, but many come to visit to enliven it. Some foods (ready cooked, possibly cooked at home) are sold on a takeaway system; There are also stalls selling local vegetables, and sometimes there are also selling clothes. The food sold is side dishes; very convenient for those who are busy and unable to cook at home. The night market usually starts operating from 4.30 pm (sometimes, some have started selling as early as 3.30pm) and ended at 7.30pm. Open daily, unless weather permits, such as heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Aki-Aki Trail is a picturesque hiking spot offering stunning views of Mount Kinabalu. This trail, once used by villagers for hunting and gathering, has been opened to the public due to its beauty and connection to Maragang Hill. The 3.3km trail features a mix of stairs and jungle tracks, making it both challenging and rewarding.
Visited in January, very well maintained track, some parts are steep and challenging! Views on top are absolutely sensational! Mountain Guide was very patient and knowledgeable! Milo the "guide" dog is adorable! Will be back for sure .
Tina K — Google review
Dated 20.03.2022. The Starting Point is just next to the main road of Ranau-Tamparuli. One of the best places for those who like hiking, even suitable for those who want to try and experience hiking for the first time or to practice lightly in preparation before climbing Mount Kinabalu. Just bring a small bag with a small towel to wipe sweat, a spare t-shirt, a 1.5 liter bottle of mineral water and a bun for each person is enough. With a fresh and cool atmosphere, I & my wife with the team were very excited to enjoy the moment where we could see the strawberry farm and buy it by choosing and picking it ourselves, everything was fresh and delicious to eat. Along the 2.5km Aki-Aki Trail and taking less than 2 hours including breaks at several rest huts provided, we were able to enjoy the beauty of nature while crossing a wooden bridge across a clear river and its clean area and continuing towards the two towers at the top, namely The Aki-Aki Platform (1,780 meters) and The Odu-Odu Platform. The views from both towers and the surrounding area are also very attractive where you can see Mount Kinabalu, the Dairy Farm area, the golf course and the beautiful village area. The tour guide is also very friendly and informative about the place, don't question why a tour guide is needed because it is very important for your safety and also for maintaining cleanliness in the area. After climbing and returning to the Starting Point, you will also be given a certificate by the management. You definitely won't regret it!

Aki-aki trail is only about 3.3KM with absolutely mesmerizing views of Mount Kinabalu, unfortunately when we reached the top, Mount Kinabalu was hiding behind the clouds. For hikers would like to hike this trail, make sure you do booking and registration with respective guides before coming. The trail is a mix of 30% stairs and 70% jungle track so hike with a hiking shoe will be more comfortable and safe.
Jack W — Google review
This forest stole my heart and breath away. An astounding forest! Used to be a trail for some villagers to find food/hunting, the community decided to open this trail to the public after knowing about Maragang Hill. Every part of this forest is just gorgeous and photo worthy too. Ascending took us about 1 hour 55 minutes plus rest and of course picture taking sessions. Descending is only about 47 minutes with a few seconds of rest. Andrew, our guide was really friendly and have a lot of stories to share. He patiently hike within our pace. Unfortunately, our moment at Aki-Aki platform, Mount Kinabalu refused to show its beauty. It was full of thick clouds. But the view is OMFG! Extraordinary! But upon reaching Odu-Odu platform, we were greeted by the beautiful colorful butterflies and white birds flying in groups, having so much fun on that sky. It was like they are performing their best for us. What a humbling experience. I could say this is a medium level hike but considering 80% of it are stairs, you do not come here unprepared. The stairs could be intimidating but they built it according to the right steps and momentum. Not forgetting to the 3 dogs that loyally accompanied us through our hike. Its been a pleasure doggies. Till we meet again Aki-Aki Trail!

The 3.3 km trail with proper facilities such as staircases and platforms with majestic Gunung Kinabalu. Make sure you need to be alert surrounding especially at night because we encounter a snake on our way in the dark.
Afiq I — Google review
Here you go down and about 1,5km where you come across a sign (photo). After phoning the number you get the warning for a mandatory guide (240rm). I tried to learn why we need a guide for a trail that is completely built with stairs and signs. Because "we don't want anything bad to happen". Which I think is the most common tell tale sign of a scam. They are building a resort there. The path is public property (the guy on the phone was very evasive about this, but it's the truth). It could have been a wonderful morning walk. I would have been happy to pay 50rm for conservation. Now you miss out on hundreds of tourists that would come and enjoy the park.

Welcome to Hamster World, a delightful haven for animal lovers and families alike! While navigating the area may present some challenges due to narrow roads and limited parking space, the experience is well worth it.
This place is easy to find and accessible for all type of vehicle. They have lots of super cute hamsters and guinea pigs in here with all types of the world. The hamsters are so cute, I love them. The road condition is quite bad and very small parking space. Thumbs of for the maintenance and the entrace fee is cheap. They have cafe here and few merchandise retail with cheap prices.

This place is the same place as Arnab Village, Magical Garden. But just to inform, the hamster world is no more here. The staff told us that the hamster world had relocated to Kundasang (no idea where that is). So we bought the all access package which is RM16 if I'm not mistaken for an adult. My below 5 year old kids are free. So you'll get access to the arnab village (includes the place for guinea pigs, cat mania (sort of like a cat studio), a grape orchard, lots of places to take pictures such as the giant props for pictures, floating garden, magical garden. Just no hamster. Also you could buy a separate ticket for each of the attraction if just in case you're only interested in one or some of it but not all. It's nice and cute place to be.

Bukit Kimondou, also known as Kimondou Hill, is a hidden gem located between Kundasang and Ranau in East Malaysia. This popular hiking spot offers a relatively easy trail that takes about 30-45 minutes to complete at a regular pace. The area is private land, so visitors are required to hire a guide for a minimal fee. The hill features beautiful sunflowers and stunning scenery, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
Do booked by WhatsApp with a tour guide before you come here, good view above and some stamina to climb the incline steps, around 20 minutes to reach , do spray some mosquito repellent as well, hope this comment helps 🫶🏻

A hidden gem around the Kundasang-Ranau area. Do note this is a private land, and hence will require a guide as mentioned in the listing, but cost wise, it was minimal and the hike for 2 people costed me not a lot and I can see the money is used for maintenance of the area. I was guided by Aunt Juliana who is a strong lady at her age and can speak Malay. The trail itself is not particularly challenging, taking about 30-45 minutes only on a regular pace. Since it is a private land. the summit is beautifully maintained with a bunch of flowers, some platforms, swings, and a small hut for beautiful photo ops. We were the only hikers on that morning, and got to enjoy our own private sunrise, backdropped by Mount Kinabalu. They also allow hiking for sunsets, which I believe should give you a view of the sun setting behind Mt. Kinabalu. Recommended for the cute summit and helping local small business owners.

The Mount Kinabalu Climb Booking Centre is a must-visit for adventurous travelers in Kundasang. As the highest peak in Southeast Asia, it offers breathtaking views and a moderate two-day trekking experience. However, it's important to avoid the rainy season when the summit gate may be closed. The center manages climbing slots within a two-week period and provides online booking for Malaysians. Additionally, there is a convenient store available on-site for visitors' needs.
Don't come here during the rain season, lots of chances they are gonna close the gate for summiting. But for sure I will come again when the dry season comes.

From 1800 mt to 4100 and back in two days is too much for normal people. This path is spectacular but it’s not for normal people it’s for trained hikers.

I made it to the summit and grateful for the experience. However, the trail below lodge is in very poor condition. This hike is advertised as “doable” for most people but I disagree. It is a poorly maintained trail with a lot of traffic and anxious hikers. The trail needs serious repair and hikers need to be aware of how strenuous the hike for most people who like me, are uninformed.

Miki is a lovely guy with quality knowledge of survival in Borneo's rainforest. He shows which plants and fruits are edible, what different kind of traps he uses, how to make shelter and how to make a fire from scratch. We only stayed one night, so we couldn't try all these things ourselves, but we certainly learned a lot. Thanks Miki!

Visitors must make an appointment with the owner to see this rare sight as there is no cellular coverage in the area. The owner usually indicates if the Rafflesia is blooming by placing a banner on the main road and provides contact information for appointments.
Remote area and no cellular coverage (i was using a maxis on that time). You must make an appointment to see the Rafflesia here. Usually the owner will put a banner on the main road if the Rafflesia is blooming. The owner tell us Rafflesia release a bad odour as it was a carnivore. Hope fully the owner should put his own number, so the tourist will easy to make an appointment to see the Rafflesia blooming. Owner tell us you need to hike an easy trail to see the flower.

Visitors can observe many butterfly specimens; however, some may not be well-preserved and have fallen off their displays.
I enjoyed it, free entry, more butterflies outside the enclosure than in! But it says they are more active on sunny days and today was quite rainy. Various other bugs showcased such as stick insects and beetles.

Very nice location within the deep forest of Borneo but it’s lacking maintenance and seriously lacking species of butterfly to attract tourist. Located about 45 minutes from Kundasang Town, this serene spot features a fast-flowing river where visitors can choose to wade or dip their feet among hundreds of playful fish. For just RM4, you can enjoy the shallows, while RM8 allows for a more immersive experience.
Definitely most interesting thing to do in Kundasang/Ranau! 30 mins drive away from kundasang city centre and swarm by fish that you can feed ( fish do not eat dead skin, only fish pellets). These are koi fish/ carps so does not naturally found there but still interesting to do! Entrance fee is rm5 and there aren’t an any place to keep shoes safe and can get quite cramp so best it’s to be there early

This is our second time visiting Fish Spa Sg Moroli, and it’s still a fun and unique experience — especially for kids! One thing that makes it special is that the fish here are bigger than the usual tiny ones at other fish spas, so you can really feel them nibbling away at your feet. They also have fish food available, which makes it even more fun because you can attract more fish to come to you. My kid really enjoyed feeding the fish and watching them gather around. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area — relaxing, different, and a great memory for the family!

🌿 My Experience at Sg. Moroli Fish Spa, Sabah 🐟 What an unforgettable experience! At Sungai Moroli Fish Spa, I got to dip my feet into the crystal-clear river while hundreds of small fish gently nibbled away the dead skin — it felt ticklish at first but super relaxing after a while. The water was so fresh and cold, surrounded by beautiful nature and friendly locals who explained the history of the place. A Perfect Getaway at Sutera Sanctuary Lodge, Poring Our recent stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodge, Poring was truly an unforgettable experience. We stayed at Palm Villa 1 & 2 as well as River Lodge and Kelicap Twin Rooms, and from the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking villa, cozy ambiance, and fantastic décor. The attention to detail in the interior design created a warm and inviting atmosphere, making us feel at home instantly. We were warmly welcomed, and it was comforting to see that staff were on standby at the villa, ready to assist us whenever needed. The hospitality was top-notch. The check-in process was smooth, and we were delighted by the friendly and professional service provided by the staff. A special thank you to Mr. Redzuan, the Service Manager - Resort Operation, for ensuring that every aspect of our stay was well taken care of from arrival to departure. His dedication to guest satisfaction truly made a difference. The staff members were exceptional—Ange, Talia, Alice, and many more whose names we, unfortunately, couldn't list, but they all played a significant role in making our stay memorable. Their warm smiles, attentiveness, and willingness to assist made us feel incredibly welcomed. What stood out most was their quick response to our needs, especially in accommodating elderly guests and individuals with disabilities. Their readiness to assist at the villa showed their commitment to top-tier hospitality. Dining was another highlight of our stay. The BBQ and steamboat dinner were simply delicious, offering a perfect blend of flavors and a delightful dining experience. Breakfast was equally impressive, with a great variety of choices to suit different preferences. Overall, Sutera Sanctuary Lodge, Poring exceeded our expectations in every way. The dinner and breakfast was great and varied. The area itself has lots to offer including a canopy walk, butterfly garden and hot springs. WiFi only available in the reception and restaurant areas. It was lovely and highly recommend.

I loved this place! The waterfall hike is beautiful, the hot springs very relaxing- 10 Rigits for a private tub you can fill at pleasure- and the cool rock pools are for free. Moreover, if you stay overnight at Sutera , you can use the pools after closing hours, giving them an even more relaxed vibe. The restaurant offers very delicious food, the breakfast was fantastic. Not to mention the super friendly staff at the reception that gave us a free upgrade. Btw- as we had climbers’ tags from the day before we did not have to pay any park entrance fees.

We stayed here as part of our tour in Borneo with EXO tours as a trailfinders package trip. the accommodation was very comfortable and clean, evening meal and breakfast was served in the restaurant in the park. The food was excellent and service was amazing. Staying here allows entry in to the park after 3pm. good base for the canopy walk and walks around the park.

We stayed in the riverside cottage which consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a hall. Ideal for 2 small families or one big family. It is very cosy just beside the flowing stream. Very comfortable stay experience. This place is far from the main town of Ranau so you are solely relying on their restaurant. We like the food. But not very happy with the breakfast options. This place is within the Hotspring KK National Park. So everything is within walking distance. A good piece of advice is to carry your rain gear because it rains very unpredictably here. Also if you are planning to visit make sure you arrive early because activities close by 3 pm.

An easily accessible place if you have a car. This is the location of the last camp site for the Sandakan - Ranau Death Marchers. A memorial with the names of all those who died along the march was inscribed on it.

It's a simple memorial site and it feels like the people deserved better. But it's well maintained and there's an information sign in English. It is educational and an important part of history. There's a gate, which you can push open to walk in.

Visibility finding the place was quite bad, no big signage or anything. It is within a gated area and u have to pay a donation to the family staying nearby. According to them, due to lack of funds there's no incentive to clear the path to where the POW last were at the river. Overall it would do good for the gov to improve this historical landmark

Garden
JFC Garden View (Rafflesia) in Ranau, Sabah is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. For an affordable entrance fee of RM10 per person, visitors can witness the rare and fascinating sight of Rafflesia flowers in bloom. The garden boasts a variety of flower buds at different stages, offering the chance to see these magnificent blooms up close. The friendly and informative guides provide insights into the lifecycle of Rafflesia and are happy to share their knowledge with visitors.
A sign by the road indicated that the Rafflesia was in bloom, having opened just four days prior. Our tour group, all curious to witness the famed "largest flower in the world," set off to see it. This remarkable parasitic flower takes a year to emerge from a bud, blooming for only five days before it begins to decay, earning it the nickname "corpse flower" due to its foul odour. Each visitor paid RM 30 for the experience, which turned out to be quite worthwhile. The sight was impressive, with numerous flowers at various stages of development visible along the trail. The flowers grow naturally, and the landowner has constructed a suspended boardwalk to protect them from trampling. Additionally, measures are taken to prevent animals from consuming the delicate maturing buds, ensuring these botanical wonders can thrive for all to enjoy.
Bridgitte * — Google review
We came to see the world's largest flower, Rafflesia. Today, there was a blooming Rafflesia in the park, so we were lucky enough to observe it. The park entrance fee was 30RM. It’s a simple park just for viewing Rafflesia. Although I was thrilled to see Rafflesia, the facility is a very simple one. I believe they are preserving the park to not disturb the blooming of Rafflesia, but it’s essentially just for viewing the flower. If you're lucky, you can visit. In this facility, you can see the Rafflesia Keithii species.
Kazu-kun — Google review
An interesting place to see the Rafflesia flower live only in Sabah! The ticket price is reasonable at RM10 per local visitor, and you can witness how the flower grows from a bud until it blooms and withers after 7 days. It’s really worth the visit, and you’ll be satisfied. The tour guide, along with her cute child, was very friendly. I’ll definitely come again and bring my family next time!
Eja J — Google review
Nice experience & lucky to see 2x blooming Rafflesia in real. Suggested make a call before visit, FYI each flower bloom for typically 3 to 7 days depends on it's growth quality, not guarantee to have chance to view it. It takes 9 months to 1 years from sprout to bloom and only growth naturally.
Mei L — Google review
Charging Rm20 entrance fee for Malaysian is quite expensive. The entire garden is probably less than 3 min walk. I was expecting bigger garden for this fee. We got to see one blooming Rafflesia but that's it. It doesn't feel worth it to pay RM40 for 2 adults. There are probably other gardens with more blooming Raffflesia.
Voon L — Google review
Lucky we were able to see 2 flowers in full bloom. They are all beautiful. You can see flowers in different stages of growth, from bud to wilted state. There is mild odor emitted by the flower but i don't mind it. It's how it is. We were told that Rafflesia does not grow just anywhere, it needs the perfect mix of environmental factors for it to thrive. Lucky for the owner of the place it becomes instant tourism spot. They likewise take good care of the place and flowers as well. Entrance is a bit pricey so maximize your visit to the place. Learn anything you can and take lots of photos. Remember to keep the place clean and orderly as there can be many tourist at any time.
J. S — Google review
3 stars because the price of RM30 per person is too steep. Seeing the flower is cool, but the "tour" is extremely short.
