Nature & Wildlife Areas
Healey Dell Nature Reserve, located just 2 miles from Rochdale town center, is a picturesque beauty spot and wildlife sanctuary with a rich industrial history. The River Spodden has carved through the woodlands over thousands of years, creating stunning scenery and impressive waterfalls that once powered ancient mills. A disused 1800s railway line now serves as a nature trail offering magnificent views from a 100-foot-high viaduct.
Visited Healey Dell Nature Reserve in Rochdale and it’s a hidden gem. The place is full of peaceful woodland walks, and the sounds of flowing water really add to the atmosphere. The waterfall was small but serene The old stone viaduct was impressive too, towering above the trees and adding a real sense of history to the area. Plenty of photo opportunities around, especially with how green and vibrant everything is at this time of year. There’s a small car park nearby which makes access easy, and even on a warm day, Definitely worth a visit if you're after a relaxing nature walk with a bit of scenic charm.

Was looking for a pretty waterfall without too many people and we got what we asked for! The route isn’t the most well sign posted, luckily I had downloaded a map from Komoot beforehand so we did okay, however a few other people weren’t sure where to go either. (When you drive in and park, it’s best to walk back the direction you came in.) Some gorgeous spots here though so would definitely recommend. There was also a tearoom with a good menu which was unfortunately closed when were there, so we will be returning to try that out!

Fantastic place to go for a walk, Some amazing sights and a beautiful tea room, bar and bbq area. Prices for food was very reasonable although we just opted for toast (but it was really good toast). All in all a great way to waste a few hours, well worth the visit, will be returning soon with my grandson.
David B — Google review
Visited 03/05/2025, decent amount of parking, the car park road area is patchy with pot holes so be careful driving. There is picture signs of the area opposite the tea room area, however unless you get a map or know the area the walks are not well sign posted which is why only four stars instead of five, if it hadn’t been for a helpful member of staff at the tea room who guided us to where the old munition buildings were to the rear we wouldn’t have then found the walk adjacent to the water stream that took us into lovely green areas for our walk. I’d say take walking shoes or wellies if doing this as plenty of muddy and rough path areas not suitable for shoes with no grips etc. If toilets required there is a couple in the heritage centre adjacent to the tea rooms, didn’t find any others around the area so plan if need to go or come back to if needed. I’d recommend if the work units near car park is open to go look and visit the items on sale, purchased a 3D printed octopus and a fridge magnet, great value and craftsmanship and the lady who first met us was very helpful as was the gent who came a little later. Worth a visit but do plan ahead as to route to take as once here it is hard to navigate without signs around the nature reserve. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our first visit. We parked jn the Healey dell tea rooms car park. We were given a map and off we went. It was a beautiful autumnal walk with a river, waterfalls and a duck pond along the way. The tea rooms were great, we would go back there again.

Wouldn't want to encourage too many visitors but what a stunning bit of nature, hills, resevoir and my favourite era for concrete - a bit of 60's dam building thrown in. Wow. Be nice to see the boat house turned into a socially run cafe.

Beautiful place, lovely walk with the family after Sunday lunch, there's a park , tea room,so relaxing. Beautiful views.

An intriguing historical place from the abandoned railway viaduct; remnants of a woollen mill to a munitions factory during WW11.. The extended area has many more places of interesting walks.

Touchstones Rochdale is housed in a historic building made from Yorkshire stone and serves as a town museum, art gallery, visitor information center, and study center. The venue dates back to 1883 and offers insights into Rochdale's human and natural history, including the impact of industries like cotton mills and the development of transportation infrastructure. It also showcases exhibits on the region's landscape shaped by glaciers.
This place is great, for a small-ish town like Rochdale it really punches above its weight. I took my little girl who is about 17 months and she loved all the interactive exhibits and the arts and crafts. I came here for work to set up a live stream in the gallery several years ago too I remember the staff being very lovely and welcoming. The football exhibit was great, although some of it was a bit questionable and not sure I'd pay £6 for a zine that in all honestly looks like a bloke got a camera from Argos and took it to a footy match, but some of it was phenomenal. I took some photos of the old-timey artwork because I really liked it. Overall I'd say the people of Rochdale are spoilt to have such a lovely museum on their doorstep (as I am with Portland Basin in Ashton which is also worth a visit if you're into local social history). The art gallery is really cool, a good mix of contemporary and classical and it doesn't feel at all pretentious. We had a really fun visit so thank you.

I've not been here since I was a kid, so I thought I would take my kids while we were in the area. It was a pleasant way to spend an hour. It was really relaxed with lots of things to see and read. The toilets are easy to access and really clean, earning an ooh from my Mom as she opened the door. The 1st floor has a really immersive experience for children. My teen commented that we had all found our places as my son played with the eco friendly toys, she did some craft, my mom looked at the prams and I sat on my bum surveying them all. We were made extremely welcome when we entered, never felt harassed and weren't followed around or watched constantly (though I suspect we were on cctv which I'm more than happy with). For the anxiety people, there are clear directions on what to do and where to go, approachable staff members, easy to find toilets and it was clean and well organised. I felt comfortable from the second I walked through the door to the second I left. Parking is easy in the multistory car park across the road.

Brilliant art gallery and museum in Rochdale. Great place to learn about the local history and famous people of the area. It's also got a cafe, shop and had a craft market in one of the rooms when I was there.

Beautiful old venue. Great staff. Current exhibition is Mischief by Liz Collins which is absolutely world class and a huge coup for Rochdale.

Great little museum. Interesting exhibits. Absolutely gorgeous cafe with great coffee.

I spent an hour and a half on a inspiring adventure with a good friend, neither of us to look at would give an impression of even being slightly interested in in art and local history but we were given a tour by a wonderful staff member unfortunately the uninterested man on the till was only giving us a suspicious eye but that aside Touchstone is a must for a great afternoon in Rochdale and the cafe is a whole review on its own

Love this place. Have been many time and will be going many more. lots of informative and interesting local history. welcoming feel with friendly atmosphere. I have been to several of the exhibitions held at touchstones and loved every one. Have visited with family children, pensioner's and when friends visit from out of town. Everyone would like to return. Lots to do. Lovely gift shop and you can also get something to eat and a decent brew.

A nice little lake for an outing. It’s nice for a couple of hours and there are cafes and ice cream places around. There are also quite a few paid car parks available.
S A — Google review
The lake was so picturesque sat watching the water sports while eating a massive Cod from the takeaway across the road, Parking was ok but the parking attendants were out in force issuing tickets for people failing to get back to their vehicles in time so be aware. The pubs are nice with great food but can be very busy, Its a great walk around the lake with of Ducks Geese and seagulls in abundance. Lovely day out.
David H — Google review
First of all, Don't get stung if you can by parking in the pubs car park, there's one just after it which is half the price but normally pretty full so try to get there early to secure a cheaper spot!! Hollingworth lake is a great little spot with plenty of activities from Boat rides, Fishing playgrounds for kids and even hides for bird watching or photography. It took me about 2 hours to walk around completely at a slowish pace talking photos as I went even bumping into a fellow photographer for a chat. About half way round there's a little cafe with a seating area which is perfect if you take children with you to give them a break.
Rik — Google review
We enjoyed a brisk walk around Hollingworth lake earlier this afternoon, luckily the weather was quite kind with no rain and quite a bit of sun 🌞. Although in certain areas the paths had some quite large puddles from previous downpours and certain area's were covered in leafs so be careful under foot at this time of the year.

The Rochdale Pioneers Museum, located at 31 Toad Lane, is a significant historical site that marks the birth of the modern co-operative movement. It was here that the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers began trading in 1844 to address the plight of skilled workers affected by industrialization. The museum offers insightful exhibits showcasing the journey of the co-op from its inception to its current societal role.
It was an official visit as we were representing Pokhara Royal Cooperative from Nepal. They were really helpful during the entire booking process and were always there to help. As we booked in for a detailed tour, Sarah helped us to understand every aspect of the museum. Anyone who wants to know about how a co-operative started just books for a detailed tour. Or else if you are nearby just visit and learn more as it is free of cost.
Meeraj D — Google review
A lovely little museum explaining how the Co-operative movement started. Free to enter and friendly staff. Little gift shop and toilets 😊.

Small museum which is interesting providing background and history of the Cooperative movement. Friendly staff and clean toilets. Worth a visit if you’re visiting Rochdale.

Loved the layout of the museum very interactive for children and the dress up part is good aswell. Fun for both adults and children.

Arrived in plenty of time before closing but were made to feel unwelcome and they were closing early and a temporary sign was put on the door whilst we were in there saying they were closing even earlier. My mum is registered blind and there was so much text to read but she didn't feel comfortable asking the staff to give her information after our welcome. We probably stayed about 15 mins.
Rachel T — Google review
Visited a few weeks ago, on a Saturday, after a great tour of the Town Hall - to find it closed with a sign in the window. This is despite Google Website showing it to be open. Review reflects approach to customer service - perhaps take lesson from Town Hall organisers on when people are available & keen to see key aspects of Rochdale history?

Great space with loads of fascinating information about the Pioneers and the CO-OP There are interactive parts for small children and it was free to enter. Check the website to make sure they are open

The Ellenroad Engine House Steam Museum is a captivating destination for families, offering an immersive experience in industrial history. Visitors are awed by the sheer size of the world's largest working steam mill engines, Victoria and Alexandra, which date back to 1917 and boast a combined 3000 horsepower. The museum's volunteers provide engaging and informative explanations about the engines, adding depth to the experience.
Great site, visit when in steam 1st weekend in the month. Even better go when there's an event, vintage cars. Fantastic engine is the star but boiler room, blacksmith shop all open and working. Bot tricky getting around if you have mobility issues, but there is stair lift to upper level. Volunteers very knowledgeable and helpful. Small tea bar avaliable.
Pete W — Google review
Absolutely brilliant 😊 seeing the machines still running just shows how good the UK Engineering was, I would definitely recommend this as a trip into the past.
Andrew R — Google review
What a fantastic place - a real living museum where you step back in time to see the industrial powerhouse. All the volunteers were extremely helpful and had plenty of time to chat and talk about the engine. The cake was also nice from the cafe!

An excellent day out with the children. There's so much history and a working steam powered engine. £5 adults and children go free, all monies go towards the upkeep. A must see.

Rochdale Canal offers a delightful journey through picturesque towns like Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, providing stunning views at every turn. The canal path is perfect for walking and cycling, with colorful barges and old mills adding to the scenic beauty. The area also boasts charming cafes, ample dining options, and opportunities for exploration. Additionally, the canal provides a peaceful atmosphere for wildlife sightings and encounters with friendly locals.
I was born in Hebden Bridge, worked in the Calder Valley or Happy Valley as we have always known it and now, due to the TV program, most people also know it as that. The Valley has changed a tremendous amount in the last 60 years and most of the industry I knew has gone, the industrial workers have gone, most of the mills have gone also. However there are a few things that haven't changed and the bits that have changed are mostly for the better. One of those is the Rochdale Canal which brought the initial prosperity to the Town, allowing the textile mills to receive the coal efficiently and cheaply, then ship out the cloth and garments to near and far. The canal was the life blood for many years. Now its all about leisure but its still there and still used. We must all be thankful for that and the many people who fought and worked to bring it back into use. I now walk along from Sowerby Bridge and marvel at the ingenuity of the designers, surveyors and the Navi's that built it (of which one was an ancestor) although a scandal at the time. It is a walk that I will never tire of, never stop seeing something different and never stop wondering "who built that, how and why" Its like stepping back in time.... and I love it
Bobby D — Google review
A lovely place for a walk. Clean, clear paths, information boards, a green area with a park, and benches. People living on the water in there boats. Plenty of free parking in the surrounding area.

I have been walking up and down this canal since i were a kid. I love it. However.... Trying to push my disabled daughter is seriously hard work. We get on at lock 49 and walk as far as i can. Today we actually managed to get to todmorden. It was fookin hard work.

Nestled within the picturesque Healey Dell Nature Reserve in Rochdale, the Healey Dell Heritage Centre and Tea Rooms offer a delightful Edwardian-themed experience. The authentic tea rooms serve specialty beverages and delectable food in an elegant setting adorned with vintage chandeliers. With careful sourcing of high-quality ingredients, the menu features freshly prepared dishes reminiscent of home-cooked meals.
This place is cool! My wife and I had an afternoon tea here on Valentine's Day (this was in-part thanks to Wowcher, for the record). One minute, you are driving through the hustle and bustle of Rochdale; and the next you're suddenly going down a country road into the middle of nowhere and you find yourself here. As the name of the place suggests, it is steeped in history. It's not far away from an old railway viaduct as well as an old air raid shelter. So, on first impressions, the immediate area doesn't look that special, but it's absolutely worth your time to have a wander. We dined in the downstairs tea room. There is more room upstairs. The room had a lovely decor surrounded by antique plates and with large chandeliers. Great music from the 40s and 50s played in the background which I especially enjoyed. It just made for a really lovely atmosphere. Also, dogs are welcome! The staff were really nice and attentive which always goes a long way. They were very friendly and polite. And also, crucially, the food was lovely. We ate every bite of our afternoon tea and the lovely fruit laden scones were especially nice. Also, because it was Valentine's Day, the food had even been themed with heart designs on some of the items. A nice little touch that they didn't have to do. There is also an outdoors eating area which I imagine is especially nice on a warmer day and looks like it comes with patio heaters. I think it is from the back of here that you can access the nature trail. It contains a waterfall and the full walk lasts about an hour. We didn't do this ourselves, but I would love to revisit with the dog.
Daniel W — Google review
Visited 03/05/2025, and seated in the attached outdoor covered seating area to the tea rooms not pre booked but luckily tables available when we arrived. Very helpful and courteous welcoming staff who even gave granddaughter a small chocolate egg and including the manager who made granddaughter feel very welcome and because ate all her dinner gave a sweet treat for after, fantastic service. I wasn’t able to take advantage of the afternoon tea they do as have to order 24hrs before, would highly recommend you do this as part of your visit to the Healey Dell area. The food came quickly and as you can tell from the pics posted were well presented, plentiful, tasty and great value, with the warm weather on the day the drinks that came with ice were lovely as was the hot drinks ordered too. Lovely atmosphere with everyone enjoying the food and service as well as location, highly accessible outdoor eating location and we saw a couple with an assistance dog with a water bowl whilst there which is great to see. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've been coming here for years. It is a magical place. As you step through the doors, you are whisked back in time and served beautiful teas and well cooked snacks. The ambience is something else, it has such a comforting aura about the place. Staff are lovely and the place is dog friendly. Earl grey is really good from here as is the doorstop cheese on toast.
Gareth B — Google review
Rare to get good hot chocolate but it was great here. Quaint little tea room, not exactly to my taste in decor but the staff were accommodating and friendly. Local walks are fantastic too.
Manchester C — Google review
This is a quaint little place to come and have an afternoon tea, or a bite to eat after you have been for a stroll along the trails. I had the traditional afternoon tea and, whilst I think the food was good, I don't think it was necessarily good value for money. For one, there should be more sandwiches offered, especially if you are having it for two people. The service was very good, however, with staff being very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. That being said, there was an overwhelming scent of burnt fat pervading the air, which did not help one's olfactories, along with a rather dubious soundtrack of various jazz tunes, and other miscellany of music, being pumped into the air, which was an assault on the ears. The place has a lot going for it and I would go again, perhaps only to see what else is on the menu, but not for another afternoon tea.

My boyfriend and I decided to explore Healey Dell Nature Reserve for the first time – such a lovely spot! The tracks were clean and wide, and we came across some cute benches along the way to sit and take it all in. At one point, we found a flat open area with a few benches where a family was having a picnic and kids were playing with dogs – it was a really sweet scene. The weather was just right too – not too hot, not too cold, and a good amount of sun. About halfway through our walk, we stopped at the Healey Dell Heritage Centre & Tea Rooms. It’s such a charming little place. It was really busy (which is always a good sign!), and we were happy to wait for a table – love supporting places like this. We only stopped for a quick coffee break – I had a cappuccino and a slice of chocolate fudge cake, and my boyfriend had a black coffee. I wasn’t a fan of my cappuccino, and sadly the cake was really dry – tasted more like a supermarket one than something homemade. My boyfriend said his coffee was okay though. That said, the food on other tables looked great – proper chunky chips and big burgers. The building itself is beautiful inside, and it’s the perfect mid-walk stop for a drink and a break. They even had jugs of water with cucumber, which was a lovely touch. There was one slightly odd thing – an older man seemed to be hovering around the staff while they worked. We overheard some of his conversation and it came off a bit patronising – hopefully he was just trying to help, but the younger staff seemed like they were doing a great job on their own. Give them a chance! We also found a little art shop inside and were lucky to catch an artist named Mary working on a painting. She didn’t want to be photographed, but I did snap a picture of one of her artworks – really impressive stuff. You can buy her art on cute little keyrings and postcards for just £1! Overall, it’s a lovely, unique spot – very clean, with friendly vibes. Definitely worth a visit if you’re walking the reserve.

Really enjoyed our visit here after a nice walk. The food was delicious - we had a selection of deserts, tea, hot chocolates and coffees - every plate was left empty! Janka, who served us, was lovely and friendly. We will definitely be visiting again. Best scones I've had in ages!
Claire H — Google review
Nice place with really good outside tables. Near the woods/waterfall and a lovely walk. Staff were good. Clearly all very young and inexperienced, but were very polite and friendly. I got the 'Angus Beef Burger' which according to the menu was 'A very tasty Angus beef burger cooked to perfection & served in a bap with cheese, tomato & onions. Plated with salad & a portion of chunky chips' The meat itself was nothing special, not juicy, and just an average frozen patty with no real flavour and not what I would call 'tasty' like the menu said. It was cooked, so not really sure what 'cooked to perfection' means? You can see from the cheese in the photo that it was either sitting under a heat lamp or put under a grill to melt the cheese which probably also dried out the burger further. It had far too much burger sauce in (which wasn't mentioned on the menu). Luckily I don't mind burger sauce (and it did help the burger go down!) but it was literally pouring out all over my fingers while I was trying to eat the burger and made a mess everywhere. (Either inform people on the menu you are adding the burger sauce or give it on the side, but it's not ok to add that much sauce under any circumstances) The chunky chips were good. Nicely cooked and fluffy in the middle. but the side salad that came with the burger was very old with lots of brown leaves, and did not look at all fresh. My wife had the club sandwich which was nice. A lot of food and nice fillings. Her side salad was nowhere near as bad as mine (perhaps came out of a different packet?) Strangely the crisps that came with her sandwich were rock solid and unpleasant to eat. We saw so many plates go past us with lovely looking sandwiches and toasties, so we clearly chose the wrong items from the menu! It's a real shame as on the menu their afternoon tea does sound really nice, but just not worth taking the risk of driving that far from where we live if it's not up to the standard we would expect.

Greenbooth Reservoir is a serene destination nestled among lush hills, offering a picturesque setting for nature walks. The reservoir's construction in 1958 led to the submersion of the Greenbooth village, making it an intriguing historical site. Visitors can explore the area by following trails that loop around four separate reservoirs, providing stunning views throughout. Additionally, nearby attractions like the Owd Betts pub and access to walking trails make it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts.
Beautiful place, didn't realize though quite hilly and rocky. Not good if you have mobility issues. Luckily I had a friend to support me. The dog loved it.

Very nice place to visit. Stunning views! I went there today (23/04/25) and saw this poor sheep stuck in a ditch, amongst the branches. The ditch is behind the house, on the edge of the reservoir. Please can someone rescue it. I would have reported it to the officials, but there was no one there. Thank you.

4 reservoirs in one. Lots of trails and paths to walk. Can even get up onto the hills and walk across to knowl Hill or wartergrove reservoir in wardle. Can be lots of sheep about so be careful if you have a dog with you. Can see manchester city centre easily from the car park. Our favorite walk is from the car park, turn left at the first gate. It takes you all the way round the bigger 3. Roughly 6 miles back to the car.

Interesting drive up to the carpark, certainly needed to make use of the passing places! View from the start of the walk really impressive, can see the bigger reservoirs and lovely view of the wind turbines above on the hills. Takes a very gentle 2 hours or so to walk the circuit some steep steps through the wooded area to the south west but nothing too difficult. Worth the effort
Martin H — Google review
Clean and well maintained. There are a few bins at each end of the reservoir and it's a very popular location for dog walking. Half the reservoir is clearly marked our with paths etc and the opposite side is a thin public footpath through farmers fields with a nice hidden waterfall
Andrew B — Google review
This is one of my favourite walks I’ve ever done, such a lovely place in the sunshine! Could stay here for hours I’ve done this walk a couple of times as I enjoy it so much!
Kat B — Google review
I went on a miserable rainy day and still enjoyed the walk and atmosphere. Parks up at the Greenbooth Reservoir car park which is free but full of pot holes and the road up there a real car shaker. Can't wait to come again when the weather is better, more than likely going to be a 5 star place.

The Gothic structure of Rochdale Town Hall is truly stunning and breathtaking. It is a unique building with rich history and striking architecture, making it a must-visit destination. The tour guides are knowledgeable and provide excellent insights into the place's past. Exploring the building in detail is an added advantage. The venue also hosts popular children's events that are enjoyed by all attendees. The staff members are professional and informative.
We spent a lovely couple of hours here. The building is beautiful and has been recently renovated. There's a lift, so anyone with mobility issues can reach the upper floors, and there's a guided tour you can book on to, though there's a lot of information about the building and it's features as you go around. There's plenty of written information, audio information, and activities. The restaurant is lovely with decent meals and lighter bites, and it's not badly priced. It seems pretty popular though, sp probably worth booking a table if you want to eat

An amazing building reminiscent of a cathedral or stately home. In fact it was built to conduct the municipal business of Rochdale. Those Victorians certainly had style and verve

Beautiful and historical building and now even better for being done up. With the paving and new plaza out the front, it's finally in the setting it deserves. Queens Park is a Green Flag park with an interesting history. It was established after the estate of a wealthy local merchant, Martin J. Newhouse, was donated back to Heywood by Queen Victoria in 1873. The town used the funds to create a beautiful park on the sloping grounds near River Roch. The park offers plenty of play equipment for children, including a pirate ship climbing frame and swings near the cafe, as well as a toddler area and exercise apparatus for adults.
Good little park with plenty to do for kids with the play areas on show practically on entry with a small shop allowing you to get refreshments on a warm day. If your more inclined to do a spot of bird watching, the boating lake is the place for you! You can easily spot geese, goslings, ducks, the occasional swan and herons if you look closely. They also have a bird feed dispenser which takes contactless payments, so, if you have children with you you can give into their demands and pressure and allow them to feed the ducks. If none of this interests you then its always a nice scenic place to go for a walk around a lake on a sunny day.

What a lovely park, with winding paths good for walking. It has a pretty lake, plenty of bench and green grass. There's a cafe and plenty of playground equipment. Great place for families, and being alone too!

First time visiting this park, and the kids loved it. Easy parking on the road outside, though Limited, but there is a car park a bit further down the road. Great park for the kids with pirate ship climbing frame, swings, and more. A toddler park also and exercise apparatus for adults. There is a train that takes you around the park for £2 each, which the kids loved. Picnic benches and even a stage for the kids to show their talent on. Also, a bike track for budding bike riders who want more than an easy strole. The park has a tea room which serves hot food and tea.All around a well-kept and great little park.

Very nice park. Exercise equipment and climbing rigs for all. Bowling green if that's for you. Two play parks for younger visitors. Nice large pond to walk round. Lovely little tea room with snacks, ice creams etc. Very clean and well looked after.

Queens park is my Grandsons favourite park. It has The best cafe ( dog friendly) selling everything from breakfasts to ice creams ( Mr whippy 😍) the Cafe provides toilet facilities at the back. 2 Playgrounds one just for the little ones aswell as outdoor gym equipment. A fabulous lake to walk around whilst feeding the ducks, ( tip, buy your duck food at the Cafe its cheaper than the machine by the lake and you get more). If you don't fancy eating in the Cafe then get a takeaway, there's a huge field with a purpose built concrete all weather stage where the children can perform for you till their hearts content while you sit at a picnic table and enjoy your lunch. There are Tennis courts and a fabulous bowling green with benches all the way round to leisurely sit and enjoy the beautifully kept Gardens.

The Fusilier Museum in Bury is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and those with a connection to the Lancashire Fusiliers. Situated across from the Bury Art Museum, this well-designed museum showcases uniforms, medals, and artifacts spanning over 300 years of the regiment's esteemed legacy. Been taking my elder 2 kids over the years -now starting all over with my younger one..not gone inside due to closing time but will definitely come and have a look and have a good tour into history and man.. We do love passing by and just sitting down for a while and taking a breather!! A great garden of peace!! Me and my little boy finally went, a great tour, thoroughly enjoyed it, great for kids and family who loves exploring and finding!! Staff was very friendly and kind-didn't need to pay for the entry, so thanking you!! (Will go again to explore 2nd floor, couldn't see all due to appointment)!

I love the military museums, so today, I went to Bury. This is home to the Fusiliers Museum. A fantastic welcome from the member of staff on the desk. He spoke to my husband and our pal while I browsed the gift shop looking for a magnet. Please, guys, you need to get some with the name of the museum on 😊 Well, what a collection and what a building! Everything was spaced out nicely, no clutter that you find with these types of museums. Well done 👏 So much history to read and look at. I am so glad we went today, with being Easter weekend, it was quiet. We more or less had the place to ourselves, so we could take our time looking around. Once we had finished, we popped to Olive's for a coffee. The cafe is situated in the museum. Disabled access to each floor via a lift. Toilets are spotless, too. Please go and visit and take a walk around the well maintained garden of remembrance.

Fantastic museum telling the truly amazing over 300 years history of the Lancashire Fusiliers under its various different names. Fascinating collection of uniforms, medals and artefacts displayed with informative labels. The regiment were even awarded six Victoria Crosses in just one day during the dreadful Gallipoli Campaign. That is commemorated in the garden outside where there is also a WWI memorial that was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens who also designed the London Cenotaph. Excellent value and there's also a cafe on site.

Excellent museum ; you can easily spend an half day if you like to discover all the details. You find an historical side of the wars and warriors through the ages. There is as well often an exhibition about different topics, last time I've been in it was regards Kosovo 30 years celebration. The ticket entrance is for one year, you can go back whenever you wish within the year. There is as well a large memory shop and a restaurant.

Visitors can explore a replica station and view a collection of historic firefighting artifacts dating back to the 18th century. The museum also features interactive exhibits, including the opportunity to slide down a fireman's pole and explore a fire engine. Families with children will especially enjoy the hands-on activities and engaging displays.
A fascinating museum of fire service history with an extensive collection of vehicles across the ages. This visit triggered many memories for me since I grew up with the fire brigade very much part of the family as my father was a firefighter. The volunteers were very friendly and helpful and there's a very nice cafe attached for refreshments.

Hidden gem in Rochdale. My partner and I visited on a Friday, early afternoon. All staff were so friendly and informative, the receptionist whose name I don't recall (sorry!) Les and David who shared so many fascinating facts and stories on our visit around. They are clearly passionate about this museum and the amazing history it holds. Highly recommended for families, but also for people interested in local history and culture.
Corinne D — Google review
Absolutely recommend a few hours here, if you are curious how firefighters have battled their way through history to rescue those in need there's plenty of stories and information here. The volunteers are more than willing to give historical stories and information, from the early days of insurance companies sending out flamboyantly dressed fire watchers right through to the heavily equipped major incident response of today. The museum is wheelchair accessible and there is a pleasant cafe if you need a brew or a snack.

Heaton Park is a sprawling urban park located just beyond the city limits of Manchester. Covering over 600 acres, it offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. The park features an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, a boating lake, an animal petting farm, woodlands, ornamental gardens, and an observatory. Families can enjoy the adventure playground and treetop adventure while kids can have fun with the farm animals and play areas.
Plenty of parking at a reasonable cost. Great fun for adults, teenagers, children and toddlers! Scenic views, a small farm with helpful animals handlers who are happy to answer questions, well-kept grounds, boat rides, decent-sized play areas for children of all ages, a cafe, a resident ice cream van and charcoal pizza options. A good place to enjoy the great outdoors - especially on a sunny day!

Heaton Park is one of my absolute favourite places, and we’re lucky to live so close by. It’s somewhere we visit regularly—whether we’re out walking the dog or just enjoying a peaceful evening summer stroll. The park is absolutely beautiful, with wide open green spaces, woodland walks, and scenic views. The boating lake adds a lovely, peaceful touch, and there are two great cafés—one by the stables and another overlooking the lake—perfect for a warm drink or a treat. We always stop by the little animal area to see the goats, ducks, and our favourites—the gorgeous Highland cows. There’s also a brilliant bee house, which is such a nice surprise to find on a quiet walk. The park has two fantastic play areas too, great for families with children of all ages. You can really feel the history here—it’s like it’s locked into the soil and buildings around you. Heaton Park offers something for everyone: nature, history, animals, play, peace, and fresh air. It’s a true gem right on our doorstep, and I feel lucky to have it so close.

The nature was beautiful, but the park is really huge. As tourists, we felt it needed more signs and directions. We only learned about the lake and how far it was after asking, but we ended up spending two hours trying to find it

This is a wonderful park where there's something for all ages and you can spend many hours enjoying all there is to offer. Unfortunately so much of it is closed to the public. Heaton Hall and the Orangery are impressive but closed. There's also the restored tramway and old shelter, now a museum, also closed with no trams running. Even the colonnade of the former Manchester Town Hall is fenced off. There is though a lovely children's animal farm and a playground as well as a cafe in the old stableblock. Several Pals battalions gathered here in WWI and aircrew in WWII. The Somme monument is poignant. There's the historical Dower House, Grand Lodge and Temple to see and the lovely boating lake and Highland cattle in the park. It's good to see that it's also used for various events; food and drink, fairs, concerts etc.

Nestled within the historic Castlecroft Goods Warehouse, which dates back to 1846, Bury Transport Museum is a delightful destination for anyone fascinated by industrial heritage. This Grade II-listed building showcases an impressive collection of vintage vehicles, including steam tractors and trams that transport visitors back in time. One of the museum's highlights is Hilda, a remarkable steam roller from 1921 that served for half a century before being saved from obscurity.
Spent a few days in Bury with family and we decided to visit this great gem. All the historical vehicles and exhibits in great condition. What makes this place stand out is spending time talking to the team. It’s great having the physical items to look at but talking to the team who spend time keeping this place running and have used some of it in their careers is priceless. Keep up the good work.

Enjoyed a visit here as part of a trip to East Lancs Railway. Well laid out exhibits with information on each which was easy to read. Everywhere was disabled accessible. All the volunteers were most helpful. An hour is plenty time to have a good look around but well worth a visit.

Spent £8 for me and my daughter to enter. Lots of old cars, few trains and trucks. Annoyingly every train and bus is closed off, so you can't have a look inside, the interactive puzzle board in children's area doesn't work, the information TV doesn't work and the miniture railway has 1 train running. Left after 15 minutes with an unhappy and disappointed child who wanted to go on some old trains. Bottom line not worth the money.
Ciaran W — Google review
Very good museum, well laid out and organised and lots of exhibits packed into the place. Value for money was terrific and so was the range of vehicles on display. You had everything featured from a steam train, to a double decker bus, a traction engine right down to a bicycle. Couldn't fault the variety on offer. Only negative point was the uneven cobbled flooring, it would be difficult for elderly and disabled people to navigate their ways around. Apart from that, superb.

Absolutely super find for a family day out! £13 Entry for a Large Family! Or Free if you have tickets for the Heritage Railway. Warm and Informative Greeting from the 2 Volunteers on Reception - lots of leaflets and tips as we looked round. Easy to find, well signed from Bury main roads and large free car parking. Excellent facilities for wheelchair users (although a lot of the groundwork is cobbled they have laid heavy matting downstairs and have 2 Lifts, Immaculate Toilets and upstairs all wheelchair friendly with wide spaces) Super interactive area upstairs for the children of all areas including toys, learning hot spots (press, twiddle knows etc) and dress up area. Although a lot of the exhibits you can't go in due to conversation, you can go right up to touch them, read the info and take photos. Children are encouraged to go into the buses and have a drive! Highlight of our day was the Mini Model Railway and the volunteer who explained its history! Fantastic Way to spend a couple of hours emerged in History. Learning and spending some family time. A Big Thank You to all the volunteers who keep everything immaculate, give such good infomations and warm greetings You are Angels! Especially the chap who has restored the Grey Tractor <3

Visited June 2025 An excellent little museum, full of transport exhibits with a local feel. Locomotives from the Lancs and Yorkshire Railway, buses from Bury and Bolton, and whole load of other stuff. It's situated in an old engine shed close to the East Lancs Railway, and is quite the little gem. There's no charge if you have an East Lancs Rover Ticket, but I got the feeling that the entry fee would be reasonable if you were buying that alone. The guys on the door, the local were a hoot and made us very welcome. Highly recommended.

On clear days, visitors can enjoy picturesque views of the Manchester Plain, the Pennines, and even the Welsh mountains. The park features a countryside center providing information about local wildlife and area history. With its designation as a site of biological importance for fungi and bird populations, it's a great spot for birdwatching.
A lovely wander around. Brilliant little parks and fantastic views from up at the top where the monument it. The cafe is open weekends and the car park isn't very big. A nice place to wear the kids out. Apparently I'm too old to go on this massive slide ...so hubby said 😁

Tandle Hill Country Park is a beautiful escape from the city with a mix of woodlands, open fields, and well-maintained walking paths that make it ideal for families, dog walkers, and anyone looking for a peaceful day outdoors. The views from the top are especially rewarding, offering a wide panorama across Greater Manchester and on clear days even stretching towards the Pennines. The park feels safe and welcoming, and there are plenty of benches along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery. It is also a great spot for children, with lots of space to run and explore. Whether you want a relaxing stroll, a picnic with friends, or a brisk walk to get some exercise, this park offers a little bit of everything.

We Had a lovely afternoon walk around Tandle Hill Country Park today. The kids had a great time exploring the woodland trails, plenty of space to run around, climb, and discover little hidden spots among the trees. After a good wander, we stopped off at the playground areas, which were well-maintained and had a nice variety of equipment for different ages. There’s a charming little café near the entrance where you can grab toasties, ice creams, and a selection of hot and cold drinks. It’s a great spot to take a break and refuel, especially if you’ve been walking for a while. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Parking was easy there’s plenty of space, and it’s free, which is always a bonus. We spent a couple of hours here and could easily have stayed longer. Some parts of the park are so peaceful, especially deeper into the woods, where you can just sit quietly and listen to the birds and rustling leaves. It’s a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommend for families, walkers, or anyone looking for a bit of fresh air and nature. We’ll definitely be back!

A lovely big place to come and have a walk, people you pass are friendly, dogs seem to enjoy the freedom of running and chasing balls etc.... plenty of different routes you can take to walk around also, big well established trees and you can walk up to the monument at the top and see for miles around. We have a tree planted here for my late brother in law, when it was done the ground staff were amazing, very respectful, especially when it came to spreading his ashes.

Country park in Royton with toilets, picnic areas, playground and cafe (only open weekends which is a shame) There's a largish car park but also parking on the approach road (if there's space).Lots of routes that are colour coded. Some are quite steep but if you have the strength to push a pram/wheelchair uphill the trails are wide and in good condition - mainly tarmac or hardcore. There are plenty of narrower trails off these for the more adventurous.

Found this park late in the evening and visited for the reported Pennine views. The park itself is really unusual, very up and down but largely on smooth surfaces. We went up some stairs to reach the top and were greeted with a mega view back over Manchester and the surrounding countryside. Great place to see a sunset (we caught the end of it), with a couple of places to sit and take in the views from. Worth a trip.

Such a lovely place for hiking and walking. If you want to have the feel of being in the forest it's one of that spots near Manchester. Really enjoyed there with friends and family.

Lovely walk around Tandle Hill this afternoon, kids enjoyed the woodland then stopped off at the playground areas. Nice little cafe, can get toasties, ice-creams and hot & cold drinks. Plenty of parking. We had a good couple of hours here. So lovely and peaceful in areas and just sit and listen to the wildlife.

Nestled in the heart of Oldham's Cultural Quarter, Gallery Oldham is a vibrant public art space that invites visitors to immerse themselves in a diverse array of exhibitions and activities. Opened in February 2002, this free-to-visit gallery showcases contemporary works alongside community projects and historical displays. With no permanent exhibits, it boasts one of the busiest exhibition schedules in the region, ensuring there's always something new to discover.
What a delightful spur-of-the-moment discovery! After a trip to the library with the kids, we noticed the welcoming free entry poster for Gallery Oldham and decided to pop in – a decision we were so glad we made. From the moment we stepped inside, the gallery offered a surprisingly engaging experience for all ages. My children were immediately drawn to the charming kids' area, complete with sensory toys and crayons, thoughtfully placed nearby so I could still enjoy the art. One of the highlights was the unexpected sight of beehives on the balcony, visible through a large window. The gallery had even placed cosy sofas in front of it, making it a wonderfully peaceful spot to observe the bees buzzing about their important work. The artwork itself was truly inspiring, with a clear connection to local artists and Oldham's heritage. It was fascinating to see depictions of how Oldhamers used to dress and live, offering a real glimpse into the town's past. The gallery then continued this journey through time, providing amazing information and facts about how Oldham has changed and evolved over the decades. Gallery Oldham is a real gem – a welcoming, educational, and surprisingly engaging space that offers something for everyone. The free entry makes it even more appealing for families. We'll definitely be returning!

On the ground floor is a bright and welcoming public library with a smattering of users. The galleries are upstairs and on our visit deeply disappointing. Viewing stuffed birds and animals is neither art nor culture. There was a small section explaining the local suffragette movement which gave the experience its second star.

Gallery Oldham - A great place to discover beautiful art and historical objects What is Gallery Oldham? Gallery Oldham is an art gallery that is located in the heart of Oldham. It holds a variety of exhibitions and galleries that look at art in different ways including portraits, sculptures, posters and historical items. It currently holds the following Exhibitions and Galleries which are: Gallery 1 - Oldham Stories Gallery 2 - Finding the Funny: Sam Fitton Gallery 3 – Tony Husband Gallery 4 – Robert Lees: Oldham in the Countryside Exhibitions Visited Oldham Stories This was a great Exhibition that showcased interesting items giving a historical insight from the past to the present. This includes a vast array of objects from various collections at the Gallery. This included the National History, Social History and Art collections. Some of the items that were on display included The Rothwell Car, Jewellery, and specimens of taxidermy. These items were interesting to look at with a great story behind each object. The Natural History Collection was beautiful. It was lovely to see a large range of habitats that can be found in Oldham. This included owls, foxes, badgers, birds and swans. Finding the Funny: Sam Fitton Sam Fitton started his career in the textile mills before becoming a skilled illustrator, poet, dialect, writer and performer. This Exhibition was engaging as you saw Sam’s various works from cartoons that he drew in the newspaper The Cotton New Times. It also brought nostalgia in the adverts that he did for famous brands including Macintosh Toffees and other products. It also gives an outlook on how he used different dialects in his writing. His art work is also thought provoking in highlighting the issues of mill workers. This Exhibition was brilliant showing how Sam used different art means in order to earn a living. Inspiring. The interactive element of this Exhibition which is the badge making for a mill worker was fun, educational and made you think out of the box. Facilities Gallery Oldham has a café however it is currently temporarily closed. However there are a few cafes nearby that you can go to after your visit. There are toilets on the premises. Pricing It is free to visit Gallery Oldham. Parking There is no designated car park for this Gallery however there is a nearby car park that is pay and display. This is free for Blue Badge holders. What was good about Gallery Oldham? There is a great variety of objects that are full of history. Each Exhibition is engaging and is full of beautiful artwork that is beautiful. There are some good interactive activities to enhance your visit What could have been improved at Gallery Oldham? There could have been some background music Some of the habitats and art works did not have good descriptions so more detailed ones would be helpful.

You can find the a good collection of art 🎨 classic and contemporary painting, ceramic and some museum articles. The Gallary hold exhibitions for local artists some regular and some special. Which encourages local artists when these events are done. To get to it is a bit not easy because the traffic in Oldham and especially in that area is not easy to negotiate whoever there is a free parking 🅿 there for enough time to explore it. The metrolink is not far from it. If have time you can check the library which is in the same building

Both a gallery and library, this place has been a staple in the town of Oldham for as long as I can remember. The library has a good spot to take little kids to read, it also occasionally offers events to do here. The gallery is a good place to learn about the history of the town as well as offering actual art to view. There is also a lovely bit about bees with a sofa and a small table full of things for kids to do to learn about bees as well as an actual bee hive on the landing (outside).

Bestwood Country Park is a hidden gem located just 20 minutes from Nottingham city center. This expansive 650-acre park features woodland, grassland, and the historic Bestwood Engine House, which can be explored on a guided tour. The park also boasts the unique Alexandra Lodge at its eastern entrance. Visitors can enjoy lovely walks with stunning views in this lesser-known destination within Nottinghamshire's rural havens.
Fresh air and open spaces, people actually stop and talk to each other. We had a great few hours here today. My grandson loved the fact that we saw a munk jack deer, a cock pheasant and a kestrel. I would recommend this park to help you completely unwind and shake that city dust from your hair!

Close to Bestwood village, the free car park offers space for around 50 vehicles. As you exit the car park you can see the historic bestwood colliery (now a museum item). Plenty of trails to travel that provide interesting walks. Only criticism would be lack of bins (for dog poo!).

Parking - Free parking no charges or tickets needed Commuting - notts connect buses run right next to the entrance Playground - Good quality but more suited to ages 6-16 Walk - the walk from the main entrance to the playground is nice but also becomes a small hike up the hill, the nature is beautiful and it is nice, to get back if you go down towards the toilets it will take you to the main road and will take around 15-20 minutes walk. Overall - it’s a great place to go just needs to be more suitable for younger ages.

Bestwood Country Park is one of the hidden gems of Nottingham. With well posted trails, picnic spots, children's play area, and dedicated bridleways it's a charming place for hikers, riders, joggers, dog-walkers and nature enthusiasts alike in any season of the year. Cherry on the cake is ample free parking on site. A caveat: the toilets inside the park are rarely open for public.

Visited here for the Saturday morning 9am parkrun. There was plenty of free parking in the main carpark at 8:40. Its a fairly well attended event and well marshalled. The route has 2 big hills, which are not for the faint hearted, however the paths are wide enough to pass if needed. Overall a great venue with good views near the end.
Paul — Google review
Unfortunately the playground is the top of a hill which made it difficult to get to with the pushchair (the “path” is mostly rocky and muddy, with some big hills). Because of its position, it was also super windy so we couldn’t stay long. The park was ok, it is more suited to older children who can balance. The scenery is beautiful and the walk was out of the elements for the most part. It was just extremely difficult with a pushchair so we won’t be returning until we no longer need the buggy. Great that the parking is free (we parked in the Park Road car park).

Great place to visit if you're after a proper woodland walk. There's a nice mix of easy gravel paths and more adventurous ones though thicker woodland to enjoy. The terrain is quite steep at times though, so it wouldn't really be suited to anyone with any sort of mobility issues. There's also some great open spaces where to can take in the views. I didn't make it to the lake today, but I'll be back very soon to check that out. You could easily make a full day out of visiting here and discovering all the different areas of the park.
80s_film_fan — Google review
One of the best if not the best country parks in Nottingham lots of amazing views and scenery and a lot to explore in the forest there is a lot of trails around the woodlands which make a great spot to walk your dogs go for a walk or even a bike ride and there is also one of the first dual coal mines which has been restored and lots of information about the old coal mining which went on at bestwood country park before it was turned into a country park there is also a viewing point which you don't see too often anymore which over looks bulwell moor bridge and hucknall with some stunning views especially in the rare sunny weather we get in the UK. Best wood country park is also very close to mill lakes which is a must to visit if your planning on coming to bestwood country park if your interested in seeing some pictures about mill lakes I recommend viewing my reviews as I've visited quite a few places and took some amazing photos.

Fantastic local venue with something for everyone! Middleton Arena is a brilliant community hub that offers a great mix of activities and events. The facilities are always clean and well looked after — from the modern gym and spacious swimming pool to the theatre and sports courts. The staff are genuinely friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I’ve been to a few shows here as well as used the fitness area, and every experience has been excellent. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, and there’s always something going on, whether it’s a concert, fitness class, or local event. A great place to spend time regularly — I’ll definitely keep coming back!

Went to watch the animal guys here, the show very good but aimed at children aged about seven years upwards, it was very informative and entertaining as well and told the story of how we should protect our planet and do what we can to help protect our animals from going extinct. There was a lot of 2,3 and 4 year old but they were far too young for this show .

The Arena is modern in a strategic location and with good parking facilities. It is an ideal spot for community social interactions and relaxation. The bar area is spacious and well attended by locals and the lobby areas well designed for aesthetics and comfort. The gym is well equipped and the sports halls and courts are clean, modern and well appointed. I really enjoyed my visit in support of my granddaughter celebrating her birthday with school mates. Great venue.

The stadium boasts friendly fans and excellent facilities, including comfortable seating arrangements. It has been known to host various events such as girls' football tournaments which have received positive feedback due to its good facilities and great seats.
When is a football ground an 'arena'? Anyway, staff were really friendly with away fans, we had an excellent experience. Food was available and pretty good, but even better was the fish and chip shop just outside the away end! Good atmosphere from home fans. Good-natured banter, which was just as well as they are quite close. Toilet facilities good. Club look to be on the way up, and good luck to them. Parking in streets for a midweek match really no problem. We got there about 45 minutes early and had a ten minute walk at most.

Home of the rochdale football club. The Dale. Nice stadium with bar and food located in the stadium. The family stand has a kids area called Desmond den, with 2 ps4 for the kids to use as well as activities. Staff are friendly. A great place to be when the Dale are playing good. There is a all small weather pitch outside the stadium where there is football coach and children can play a quick game of football. There is parking at the stadium and loads of places to park on the side streets.

Was very upset here asked not to use a lense on my camera, said I could use a small one although I'm allowed it in other grounds I did argue my phone has a larger zoom but I can't hold it up for long too thin.i changed to a 35 mm which was a waste of time but tried it anyway then the Supervisor who love to argue told me I had to stop. I am disabled and it's my hobby for my own use.. Won't be going back

Stadium is overall a decent stadium. What you’d expect from a non league football stadium. Food was above average with the pies being a clear highlight of the visit. Atmosphere was decent, with your typical football fans with a suitable amount of security. Would overall place it as a decent standard stadium.

Had to travel there by tram and bus because there was no train available due to a fault as an away fan. The result unfortunately was close and lost 2-1 to the Dale.

St. Leonard's Church in Middleton is a charming and historic place of worship that dates back to the 1100s. This picturesque church, known for its beautiful architecture and location, is currently undergoing restoration work. Despite being locked during the visit, it remains a popular attraction for those interested in local history. The church holds significant value as a cultural gem within the community and is highly recommended for anyone seeking to explore its rich heritage.
Hello, I've been watching a rerun of a brilliant police series on iPlayer called, Life on Mars. The show is very good in quite a few ways, time travel, the music is brilliant and the location's used. I knew the Church in the background of one show was a church I recognised in Middleton. After checking my Google Maps I found it was : St Leonard's, so I went to have a look. What a lovely little gem it is, built-in the mid 1100's I understand and a wooden church before this stone one. See the photos. I could not go in, it was all locked up. I'm hoping to go again soon and next time try and have a look inside. Special thanks to all who have looked after and loved this wonderful local place of worship.

St Leonard’s Church in Middleton is a beautiful historic site with stunning architecture and a deep connection to local history. The church’s unique wooden tower and ancient stained glass windows add character, while the peaceful atmosphere makes it a good place for quiet reflection. If you're looking to elevate your climbing skills, look no further than The Peak Climbing School and their Becoming Independent Course. Participants rave about the exceptional instructors like George and Nick, who bring a wealth of knowledge and a friendly demeanor to the experience. They tailor the course to meet individual needs while ensuring that everyone learns essential techniques and safety measures. The supportive atmosphere fosters confidence, allowing climbers to push their limits in a safe environment.
Did the ‘Becoming Independent’ climbing course in May 2025 and I have only rave reviews. Nick was an amazing instructor, very attentive, giving very detailed demonstrations and teaching all the techniques and safety elements very well. I feel very confident going climbing in the crags without a guide as a result of the course. Also have to shout out to Nick for his funny anecdotes buried in the descriptions that made the course funny and engaging! Can’t wait to get back in the Peaks and scale some severe-ish routes!

I completed the Becoming Independent climbing course at Peak Climbing School this weekend, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. From start to finish, the experience was incredibly well-structured, supportive, and empowering. George our instructor was highly knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about climbing and teaching. He created a safe and encouraging environment that allowed us to push our limits while building confidence in our own abilities. Every session was hands-on, practical, and tailored to our pace, ensuring we fully understood the techniques and safety protocols. By the end of the course as an older participant being new to outdoor climbing, I felt completely equipped and confident to climb. We covered everything from rope work and belaying to route planning and risk assessment for rigging. The progression was natural and never overwhelming, and the feedback was always constructive and motivating. The Peak District setting added to the magic—stunning views with real rock experience. I can’t recommend this course enough—it was a fantastic experience!

We had two brilliant days with our instructor Matt on the Mountain rope work scrambling course in Wales last week. Despite the testing british weather conditions we learned so much! Matt tailored the course to our previous experiences, was so friendly, patient and encouraging and taught us the important skills we need to climb safely and also make our own decisions. We both gained so much confidence moving in the mountains using ropes, got loads of advice about routes and equipment and now we can't wait to get out practicing new skills! We're already thinking about booking another course with Peak climbing school and will definitely be recommending this one to others. Thank you so much!

I’ve now got the knowledge and experience to continue on my climbing journey and will definitely be back to Peak Climbing School when I’m ready for further coaching to improve my climbing grades. Having just completed the Becoming Independent Course, I cannot recommend the Peak Climbing School enough. Our instructor, George, was really friendly, knowledgeable and patient. He took the time to get to know everyone and then tailored the course, so we all got what we wanted out of the weekend. As well as learning a lot of new skills, George's tips and pointers over the weekend have helped improve my general climbing ability as well. I will definitely be using the School again for future classes!

I’ve just completed the Peak Climbing School’s Learn to Lead Trad Climbing course and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I was in two minds about whether I wanted to learn to trad climb (mainly out of fear) and this weekend has completely transformed my attitude. Our instructor Stu made us feel so relaxed and comfortable throughout and helped us to feel ready to be independent and find and lead our own trad routes in the future. We’ve had a lovely weekend and the progression in this course was ideal - it was completely tailored to our ability and what we want to learn, and the balance between keeping you feeling safe and confident to letting you try things for yourself and learn by doing was perfectly stuck. A huge thank you to Stu and the team and we hope to see you again in the future!

A fabulous community space, gorgeous building, brought back to life by an army of civically minded volunteers.

Went to spiritual event to raise money for charity. Good food and event. Locals are trying to repair and improve the premises.

I don't hate this place. It is the fact it is misnamed:((( Hare Hill House, the old Littleborough council offices is now a charitable local amenity for various groups. The place I visit is Littleborough Library, attached to the big house, but still owned by Rochdale Council. It is a glorious little building with stained glass windows. It is well run, friendly and welcoming. As well as a library, it hosts various group activities such as craft, art and some U3A groups. If you are new to the area, it is a great place to get to know people and find out about local amenities. Added to its charm is its location...Hare Hill Park, a little Victorian gem with wonderful views of the surrounding Pennines.

Yoga with Sue every Friday at 10:30am is really wonderful. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time there the last few weeks. The view from the house is so tranquil through the big bay windows.

The group now running the house are a great bunch who are very knowledgeable regarding the house and the history of littleborough. There is events held here over the summer especially and it's worthwhile a visit.

Gorgeous gallery with a fascinating exhibition. We got chatting to the artist who told us all about the various pieces. Lovely selection of little gifts and cards, and a fab tea room. Will definitely be going again!

Julez B — Google review
A beautiful building with wonderful cafe. The food is well cooked and fresh and the staff pleasant and helpful. There can be a struggle to get a table as it is only a small area. It can also be hard for parking. There is a small shop with local crafts and information and a spacious events room.
Julie W — Google review
Used the cafe side only but it has a great ambience and good priced food. Recommended.
Alan P — Google review
The Cherry Tree Tea Room here is a hidden gem. Brilliant breakfasts and a good selection for lunch, the portions are spot on and the quality of the food is second to none. On warmer days you can sit outside in the sun! The service is friendly, welcoming and accommodating and they are also breastfeeding friendly, which is a big plus for a new mum like me. A perfect place to relax. Absolutely recommend!

Chain retailer selling home, garden & leisure products, including furniture & kitchen equipment.
Huge size, with more than one floor. It was very exciting to look through the large hobbies, and crafting range that they had to offer. I loved it. The toy section was also pretty great, and they had a good Birthday card selection.
Karla ( — Google review
Large shop and usually well stocked, it’s not unusual to have a long queue as staffing isn’t always generous at busy times. Beware of parking on this retail park, there is a time limit before you get fined and it isn’t particularly generous
Stephen T — Google review
Shopping choices OK, but some items not priced properly on shelf. Got to till and only 1 person on customer service desk serving a long queue. He called for extra till staff but no one came. Queue grew to about 7 customers ( most with full baskets). A second request for extra till staff was eventually successful when a reluctant member of staff sauntered across the shop floor. You make your money at the till, so you need staff at the till! I'm quite patient but nearly gave up waiting to be served.
Km B — Google review
Hands down this is the best one ive been too personally! Big store with a large craft section and plenty of items in store! Staff also polite, friendly and willing to help! Rochdale is my 'go to' store as the availability with items is endless!.
Keeley B — Google review
Purchased some great Xmas ornaments could of bought a lot more I was a bit spoilt for choice. The only negative would be the battery operated ornaments can be operated via mains adapter but this is sold separately much more economic than buying batteries. As I am disabled we took a break and had a lovely burger and cup of tea at the upstairs cafe accessible via the lift for people in a wheelchair or other disabilities. The staff was very helpful, parking for blue badge holders and a large parking area for other motorists a very pleasant shopping trip.
Gavin B — Google review
Staff are nice but the store is a mess. Half the products don't have the price near them, products are often broken and it's guess work figuring out what your total price will be.
Ceej — Google review
Nice store with cafe and garden centre. Set over 2 floors with lift or stairs to upper level ( lift is often broken down though ). Large range of products ranging from pens up to furniture at good prices. Purchased my suite from here and it seems really good, I had my doubts about the quality because it was so cheap!! Free parking. Toilets. In the middle of renovations at the moment.Halloween now in stock, also instore new podium with hundreds of items that you can order and pay for and have delivered to your door.
Julie H — Google review
A very nice store which sells home furnishings, material, paint, plants, electrical items and even sweets. There is a nice little cafe upstairs that has a selection of tasty bites to eat.A great place to visit, however try and avoid the weekends as the car park gets very congested. 👍👍👍👍

Service was spot on, lot of people hanging around the bar in a group made it difficult to get you drinks, loads of space on tables etc. Sat outside with a couple of drinks and it was nice.

A very good local pub, but can be taken over regularly by kid parties so you may turn up and have to sit outside in Summer or go elsewhere on winter.
