Great place to spend a couple of hours and it's free. There are information plaques in Serbian and English located around the site with explanations of what you can see. Definitely worth a visit.

Νιce view near river nisava. The gate is across the bridge. It is a theatre and has coffee and food shops inside the fortress.

A wonderful and interesting archaeological place. It also contains places to buy beautiful souvenirs, in addition to quiet cafes surrounded by a forest with a beautiful view. It is really a wonderful place to enjoy.
Недал А — Google review
A great place to visit in the city. There are many old things and buildings in the fortress that you should see. At the entrance there is a public toilet that is free, and in front of it a souvenir shop. There are two small trains here for the youngest who want to enjoy a walk through the park in a different way. A large part of the fortress is under deep shadows. The whole place is with lush vegetation and lots of greenery. Here you will see the remains of an old church, a mosque, a lapidarium, visit museums and many other things. In August, one of the most famous music festivals in the region, Nisville, takes place. It is worth visiting.
Spase M — Google review
Good park, with some attractions around. Has a place for coffee, several souvenir shops, and an open stage with events (might be available online, but I'm not sure). There was no entry fee nor ticket required, but it could be only for this visit. It has a miniature locomotive which provides a sightseeing tour, not sure if it is guided. We parked at a public payed parking, but at the end of the work time for Saturday, but we found it a bit difficult for people who do not have a local Sim card. There is an app, but requires an account which we did not bother to make. Nearly there is a bazaar which has WONDERFUL produce at EXTREMELY affordable prices. Those aromas and tastes took me back to my childhood at my grandma's house - just wonderful, highly recommend!!!
Michael N — Google review
Large, open area that you're free to ramble around and explore at your leisure. Interesting mosque, installations, and old munitions bunkers.

Ancient Ruins
Skull Tower, also known as Cele Kula, is a haunting stone structure in Nis, Serbia. Built in 1809 by the Ottomans, it is embedded with real human skulls. This iconic and chilling monument stands as a reminder of the first Serbian uprising against Ottoman rule. During this historic event, Serbian rebels were vastly outnumbered by the Turkish army at Cegar Hill near Nis.
Visiting the Skull Tower (Ćele Kula) in Niš was an unforgettable experience. It's both chilling and deeply moving—a powerful reminder of Serbia’s turbulent past and the sacrifices made during the fight for freedom. The structure, built from the skulls of Serbian rebels, is incredibly well preserved and respectfully presented. The museum provides detailed historical context in multiple languages, and the staff were knowledgeable and kind. It’s not a long visit—maybe 30–45 minutes—but the impact lasts much longer. This is a must-see for anyone interested in Balkan history, and a truly unique site you won't find anywhere else in the world. Highly recommended if you’re in Niš or passing through southern Serbia. Just be prepared—it's emotional, but incredibly important.
Michael K — Google review
A tower constructed from 952 skulls of 19th-century Serbian rebels. The tower was built to serve as a lesson to Serbs who wanted to break away from the Ottoman Empire and was later converted into a monument. Until 1878, the tower remained open and unprotected, leaving only 58 skulls remaining today due to weather conditions and the fact that the skulls were taken away by rebel relatives for burial. In 1892, with donations from across Serbia, a church was built by Belgrade architect Dimitrije T. Leko, encompassing and enclosing the tower on all sides.
Hetz N — Google review
A unique and moving historical site in Niš. Skull Tower is a powerful reminder of the past, well preserved inside a chapel. Entrance is 300 RSD = 2.5€, and the visit takes about 20–30 minutes. Highly recommended for history lovers
Aleksandra M — Google review
Most unique monument in the world. Built by the Ottomans in 1809 as a warning to the Balkan people to not try to do battle with them. Made of the skills of proud Serbian warriors that sacrificed themselves instead of being captured.
Brett M — Google review
It's a must-visit when in Niš, Serbia; it is the heart of history that shapes the evolution of Serbia. Here are some photos with my friends during our last visit on 20 July 2025.
NekNox — Google review
Tickets can be bought in the building next to it, but there was no one to check. Around 300 dinars from what I remember. Would be nice if there were more details to the story presented, but I understand why they would want to keep it as it is. All in all, weird feeling that you get there, keeps reminding us of what humans are capable of just for power.
Dora B — Google review
Sad story of the Serbs and what happened when they finally had a TINY bit of success against the Ottomans. To imagine that this tower still stands where it was originally built in 1809 was amazing.
Marjorie G — Google review
It's worth a vist and the entrance fee is not too high. It's probably about a 10 minute vist to see the 4 sides of the tower and read the 4 information boards.

Archaeological site
Mediana is a remarkable archaeological site that transports visitors back to the grandeur of the 4th century Roman Empire. This ancient estate, once home to Emperor Constantine the Great, features stunningly preserved mosaics and remnants of luxurious villas that reflect the opulent lifestyle of Rome's elite. As you stroll through this historical treasure, you can almost envision lavish feasts and vibrant gatherings that filled these halls.
This was hard to review. Yes, an interesting person and era, but not much to see as such. Mosaic floors and rebuilt walls. However, size of the area and pure age must be taken into consideration. You have to use some imagination and definitely try to get a guide to assist and present the surroundings for you. What has been happening inside the walls and for whom is an important part of the site.
Kari M — Google review
The remains of Constantine the Great's (306 - 337) villa and accompanying buildings. They suffered a fire in 4th Century and were destroyed by the siege of the Huns in 441. There are still some amazing mosaics on display and a few smaller statues. The majority of the site is under cover but there are a few remains outside to the left. The information boards are in Serbian and English. Toilets were very clean.
H C — Google review
A beautiful historical spot in Niš, connected to Emperor Constantine the Great. Walking here feels like stepping back 1,700 years in time. You can explore old walls, mosaics, and ancient markings. The site is easy to reach. A hidden gem that tells the rich story of this small city.
Misha — Google review
A fascinating glimpse into Roman history just outside Niš. Mediana was once the luxurious villa of Emperor Constantine the Great, and today you can still see impressive mosaics, ruins of baths, and early Christian remains. The entrance is 500 RSD = 4€, and you’ll need about 1 hour to explore. Historical importance makes it a must-see for anyone interested in the Roman past of the region
Aleksandra M — Google review
Beautiful historical place! Recommended for everyone to visit. A lot of history! 😌
Jordan K — Google review
To think that this was a resting place for Constantine just makes what they've found amazing.
Marjorie G — Google review
Amazing piece of Roman history ! A must visit !
Boris N — Google review
The site is well organized and adapted to visitors, with clearly marked paths and information boards that provide context and additional information about the historical significance of this place. Special praise for the guide Jelena, who is friendly and professional, ready to answer questions and further enrich the visitor's experience. Her dedication and professionalism further emphasizes the importance of this archaeological site and helps preserve this cultural heritage. The site includes the remains of residential and communal buildings, thermal baths, mosaics, and other archaeological artifacts that testify to the high level of culture and standard of living in that period. Recommended to see.

The Red Cross Concentration Camp, situated in Nis, Serbia, is a poignant historical landmark that provides insight into the grim realities of World War II. Established by Nazi Germany during the occupation of Yugoslavia, this camp functioned as a significant detention and extermination center for prisoners of war and civilians. Despite being overshadowed by more well-known camps like Auschwitz and Dachau, it played a crucial role in the war's atrocities.
Exceptionally well preserved camp. You can really feel the atmosphere. You should plan and spend some time reading through the documentaron add it's really memorable. I only stayed there for about an hour and I felt so cold, mainly due to the moisture and lack of any isolation. Can't imagine how people survived there. So scary, indeed.
Ognian V — Google review
Neglected to be honest, love the story of the place and the lessons that you get for that happened here in the past but the place is dying slowly. They should renovate and take care of it more so we can have it through the years. Only 2.5€ and you CAN PAY BY CARD! Very important because we didn't had cash on us. No guided tour, you can just look around alone
Frederiko L — Google review
Definitely worth a vist. Very poignant and disturbing. Note the faded writing over the ticket office. Plenty of information to read and many personal stories. We spent around 2 hours there and took everything in. As a result of the visit we decided to walk up to the memorial where many of the camp inmates were executed. It's about a 40 minute walk from the camp and once there about a 20 minute walk back to the centre.
Paul M — Google review
Visiting the Nazi concentration camp in Niš was a deeply moving and educational experience. The site is well preserved and respectfully curated, offering powerful insights into the events that took place there. The story of the escape on February 12th stands out as a moment of incredible courage and hope in the face of darkness. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history and in honoring the resilience of the human spirit.
SofiandVivi S — Google review
Unparalleled atmosphere, as always in such kind of places. Three floors and good exhibition with artifacts and explanations in Serbian and English
Daniel M — Google review
I would highly recommend a visit if you’re a history buff like me. Walking around this place of death was eerie and cold. This place is well preserved. As you walk into the building where thousands of people were caged and tortured while waiting for execution the mind and imagination haunts you. It’s certainly changed my life having visited this place.
M. X — Google review
This was a must see on our trip. It’s not an easy place to visit. An experience of true emotion.
Valeria B — Google review
Some things should never be forgotten. I recommend to visit. Unfortunately, place is kind of neglected and with no true respect to all fallen victims. Cars of employees parked inside, some places turned into offices, some garbage outside. This place could be much better. It's just not enough will to do something.

Park Bubanj is a serene and expansive park that also serves as a World War II memorial site. It offers a tranquil setting with abundant trees and open spaces. The park is dedicated to the memory of over 10,000 people who were mass executed by the Germans during the war. Situated just over two kilometers from the Red Cross Concentration Camp, it holds historical significance as a location where numerous atrocities took place.
This is a must when in Nis. Such a special place. A memorial site for those killed during WW2. It's about a 45 minute walk from the centre or a cab is around €4. Monuments are stunning. You must see for yourself. It is also a nice green space to walk around. Free to enter.
Sarah S — Google review
Beautiful place, loved it. If someone has free time, even like 20-30 minutes is ok to check this place out.
Jordan K — Google review
A cool place, interesting structures, and there’s nobody there, except a bunch of construction workers, working on the shade canopy. the 3 fists are really powerful. Just 30 minutes walk from the centre.
Connie W — Google review
You can walk to the park from the city centre, it takes around 30 minutes and the last 10-15 minutes are uphill. The park is quite nice, many local families enjoy barbecues and picnics there. The monument itself is very impressive and a very poignant memorial to the atrocities that occurred here during WW2 . Note that if you follow the route via Google maps it will take you on a track through the park which is not recommended if it is raining
Karen G — Google review
Great place to visit; I would recommend going to the concentration camp first to put the memorial in context. A stunning brutalist monument, very poignant!
Paul M — Google review
A very emotional place that commemorates the thousands of men women and children who were executed on this mountain during World War II. I recommend taking a taxi, he can keep the meter running while you visit and take some photos and pay your respects and drive back with them. we did not do a hike of any sort we just went up via car.
Donna M — Google review
Memorial Park Bubanj in Niš is a powerful and moving site dedicated to the victims of World War II. Dominated by three monumental concrete fists symbolizing resistance, defiance, and freedom, the park serves as both a memorial and a reminder of the city’s tragic past. The surrounding greenery and quiet atmosphere make it a place for reflection, while the striking sculptures leave a lasting impression on visitors. It is not only an important historical landmark but also a space that connects nature, memory, and art, making it a must-see for those who want to understand the deeper layers of Niš’s history.
Mandala R — Google review
Emotional place, 10.000 people were killed there according to the available information, still a bit off radar and not very accessible with public transport. Bus 8 takes you "close" to it but still not quite there.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral, located in the heart of Nis, is a remarkable architectural wonder that showcases a fusion of various styles. Consecrated in 1878 following the Ottoman liberation, it stands as the second largest cathedral after Belgrade's St. Sava Temple. The interior boasts intricate floor-to-ceiling paintings and an ornate iconostasis featuring works by artist Dorde Krstic.
Niš Cathedral is the third largest church in Serbia, after the Church of St. Sava and the church of St. Mark in Belgrade. The church was built despite all the problems and distractions of the Ottoman government at the time. After the liberation of Niš from the Turks in 1878, bells were placed on the church. One of the bells was cast from Ottoman cannons. To this day, it is one of the most important monuments of liberation from Ottoman rule.

The small congregational temple is one of the witnesses to the turbulent history of the city of Nis. It was built in 1819. at the time of the Ottoman Empire. It was the temple of the Diocese of Nis until 1878. Two years ago , it was completely reconstructed to mark its 200th anniversary.
Vladan D — Google review
One of the most beautiful temples. It is located in the center of Nis. Orthodox church dedicated to the Saint of the Holy spirit - the Holy Trinity. It dates back to the 19th century, and after the Belgrade temples it is the most important monument in the south of Serbia. The icons that were made for her iconostasis are magnificent and represent a milestone in Serbian art history. The creation of the iconostasis is a turning point because it was done in a new style - academic realism. Djordje Krstic perfectly demonstrated one of the icons "The Death of Prince Lazar", which is completely realistic. Academic realism received new wings with these performances, which in Serbia was magnificently demonstrated also by Paja Jovanovic with his numerous works. In front of the church is a handful of young children playing, and it is definitely a recommendation to visit.

The National Museum in Niš is a treasure trove of artifacts that offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the city. The Archaeology Room within the museum showcases an impressive collection, including Roman currency, military cards, statues, tombstones, and remnants from the Roman villa of Mediana. Visitors can also marvel at medieval jewelry, stone icons, crosses, and unique works of art like a copy of Emperor Constantine's portrait and a sculpture of Jupiter on a throne.
Small but well curated museum containing mostly Roman finds from the Mediana site located close to the city and easily accessible by bus. You can get a combined ticket for all the sights of the city and that way you can save a few dinars but entrance fee here is small and well worth the time spent, in my case about 20 minutes

It's the smallest museum I've ever been. But it offers valuable examples of numismatics and findings near Mediana, where Constantin lived. I was told that the extensive collection remains in other museums and in Mediana, this was just a small collection. In this museum, there is the sweetest, friendliest, loveliest and the most helpful person in the world. She accepted me even though it was almost the closing time. Also She gave me information about the city. She made my day much better. Thanks to her!!!

City of Nis growing and becoming very interesting place to visit I can highly recommend stopping by here and check it out. The receptionist was very lovely and she took the time to quickly guide us through what we are going to see. The entrance is little bit sealed. Nestled in the heart of Nis, Serbia, the Bali Bey Mosque stands as a remarkable testament to the city’s rich history. Constructed in 1521, it is the last remaining mosque from a time when four such structures graced the fortress. While three have succumbed to time and conflict, this beautiful mosque continues to serve as an important place of worship for the local Muslim community. Visitors are often captivated by its stunning dome and intricate architecture.
Interesting mosque, one of the 10 built in the Fortress by the Ottomans. Next to the mosque there is a fun 'Nišville' sign and some Roman ruins. A good spot for pictures!

This is a historical monument in which the Gallery of contemporary art holds exhibitions every month, so, beside history there is always something from the present time :)
Marija C — Google review
A modern art gallery that used to be a mosque. Ramnants of the minaret are still visible in the back. In the 19th century it served as the first library in Ottoman Niš. There were many mosques in the Niš Fortress prior to 1878 and Serbian liberation of the city. Only three of more than 200 still exist: the Bali-Beg mosque, the only functional mosque close to the city center and remains of the minaret of the mosque close to the main market place, destroyed in WWII bombing.

This monument is devoted to Stevan Sremac a famous Serbian writer and his friend Kalca, a character from his novel „Ivko’s feast’’. It was raised at the original spot of Zivko Mijalkovic’s home known as ’’gazda Ivko’’, a wealthy craftsman from Nis. Besides the fact that monument is the favourite photo spot for tourists, it also presents the tradition of people form Nis to live life to the fullest.

An interesting monument to one of the most famous Serbian writers, located at the end of the pedestrian street in the city center. You can sit on the empty chair between the writer and his character from the book and take a picture. When it is very hot, do not try to touch the monuments, because they are hot and can hardly be touched.

Kalča is a charming shopping center nestled in the heart of Niš, showcasing a unique blend of boutiques, cafes, and essential services. Despite its age and the need for some restoration work, this glass-covered mall remains vibrant with around 150 diverse shops. Visitors can explore everything from wedding salons to clothing stores and mobile phone outlets. Beneath Kalča lies an underground passage along Obrenovićeva Street, featuring over 200 additional shops primarily focused on fashion and accessories.
☺️good place for taking photos and for good food too

The appearance of an athlete who was active in the past. They can't keep this up. This shopping mall will end in the near future, unless an attractive business comes along. Even if the stakes couldn't be higher for the Kalca's owner, we would hold it out with hope.

The building design is so inconvenient, you cant find what you need. Also, there is nothing to do there. The place is like a desert.
Lucky D — Google review
Kalča is an old shopping mall in the center of Niš. The building needs a lot of restoration and repair. When it rains, water leaks into the building through the skylight at the top. But even though it needs a lot of work, there are many small businesses inside.

Alex G — Google review
Small Mall, but with all the essentials you'd expect and a very big parking lot. There is also a big and well stocked convenience store, a couple of toy stores, pharmacies, fashion brands, etc.
Stefan M — Google review
Sadly, it's very old and half empty. You can find a few travel agencies, wedding dress stores and stores with fabric and materials. It has lots of potential, it's in a perfect spot in the city and the empty stores are spacious and nice, if only the city could renovate it a bit, maybe it could liven up a bit.
Iva S — Google review
Remnants of a shattered country that no longer exists. It saw its glory days back in the late 90s, but now its just a place you go to when you want to get out of the cold or rain. While building itself is not an eyesore, a public garage or a children's playground would be far more useful.

16Niš Constantine the Great Airport

International airport
Niš Constantine the Great Airport, situated in Nia, Serbia, is the country's second largest airport and serves as the primary entry point to the city. Named after Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, who was born in Nia, this international airport has been operational since 1962 for both civilian and military purposes. Despite its small size, it offers essential amenities such as a restaurant with a smoking area and a money exchange office.
Right after we landed the traffic control made sure all passengers were inside the passport control area. There was a long queue due to verification and procedures, We were surprised that the airport was too old and like an old warehouse, but when we exited we saw the new airport building next to it. Nis seems to be a nice place and the people can speak English so it's very easy to communicate with the locals.
NekNox — Google review
Very small but good airport. It's a pity that the train from Belgrade doesn't stop here. Overall the staff is friendly, but the interior lacks modernity. Passengers board the plane themselves. The most important thing is that tickets are 3-4 times cheaper from Nis, compared to Belgrade
Andre W — Google review
The most pleasant surprise of the trip was this airport, truly worthy of every praise. Modern and well-equipped, with excellent conditions for travelers. My only regret is that the management doesn’t seem to engage more with low-cost airlines to increase flight availability, instead of relying mostly on overpriced routes via AirSerbia. Still, I hope the airport will be well maintained in the long run, and not neglected like some other airports in Serbia. A great achievement that deserves to last.
Dobrica I — Google review
I believe that most of the reviews are for an old one and it was renovated recently. It’s very nice well equipped airport now ☺️ we had very nice experience all the way, everything is tidy, all staff super positive and polite. With our over hundred flights per year, I would say we were very surprised in a good way☺️
Ekaterina G — Google review
The new terminal is clean, nicely air conditioned and most importantly staffed well enough so there is no congestion. The staff is also helpful, they do their jobs and they do them reasonably quickly, so really the flow is just fine. To those who say the staff here is rude and unhelpful: try smiling when you approach another human being... Preflight is quick and efficient. I'm a frequent flyer and frankly I've always passed preflight in 5 minutes or less. Plane spotting area is spacious, has a small duty-free and places to sit. It's air conditioned and modern looking. For all intents and purposes, and those are being a small airport, this place checks off all the marks it needs. It's a small airport, not a shopping mall or a circus. You get in, and get out.
Aleksandar S — Google review
I mean, the airport is just so small that many essential problems arise. There's a small duty free shop which could just be a kiosk with all the required groceries for such a small airport. The waiting area is just as small as you'd expect.... not enough seats for everyone (even though there can only be one plane on the runway). Air conditioning is rather useless when the whole room (just one) is filled with to the brim with people. There's maybe just one outlet to be used for phone charging, so if you're out of battery... tough luck. In spite of it all, i think this is a fun airport, more than a fully functional one, and if prepared, it does what a simple airport should.... takes planes. Would i recommend, yes. Low budget flights fly from here, and that should be used if possible. "You're flying with RyanAir for 15e, don't expect much"
Andrej M — Google review
Appalling service and zero support for very sick customers flying. My flight was delayed 1.5 hrs, no apology, no announcement or explanation. I was sat there trying to find anyone who could help as I was going to miss my connection in Ljubljana to Gatwick. Staff had to look up what proactive meant as this was an alien idea to them. They did nothing and refused to call the other airport, not their concern said the 17 year old checking the stubs who was more preoccupied flirting with the police guards than being answerable for zero customer support or service. Will NEVER fly there again to visit mu family.
Novak I — Google review
An old style airport. When you leave the airport, there is an exchange office where you can convert your money to Serbian dinars and places where you can buy sim cards or food and drink. The restaurant inside the airport does not work 24 hours, but you can have a very good espresso by paying $2 during the hours it is open.

Food was outstanding, service was excellent, great atmosphere! They welcomed us with our husky dog (which is extremely calm, obedient and well-bahaved) after several low-grade restaurants turned us down. Well, they all made us a favor, as this way we found this restaurant, that was way better and classier than any of the ones who refused to serve us. We ordered the Chef and Panco Villa salads, the Smoked Salmon and Cosa Nostra Bruschetti, the "Dirty" Chicken and a Pepper steak, the Tiramisu “La France” and everything was prepared with a high level of attention to detail, all ingredients were fresh, it was very delicious and our waitress was extremely polite and attentive. Serbian restaurant
Galija is a historic tavern located in the heart of Nis, Serbia. It is known for its summer garden in the bohemian part of the city and quality acoustic music performances by local musicians. The restaurant's red and white checker tablecloths are a symbol of its long-standing reputation for serving Balkan grilled meats with rich flavors.
I cannot fault this place. Food is excellent and it still holds to traditional roots. I had the Karadjogava Schnitzla (pork schnitzel with a cheese centre). It was very good, first time I've ever had one. I also had the Srpska Salata (serbian salad). The only thing I can say is the chips were a little soft? But really they were nice aswell. I'm not going to expect hand cut chips at a Kafana. But the meats are fantastic. The service was excellent. To the people that say their waiter is rude, I think they're mistaking the waiter culture which is to be of service and not much chit chat. Simple. I recommend this place.

If you pass through Niš, don't miss this restaurant! Since 2010, every year on our way to Greece we spend a night in Niš, and this year we had dinner at this place. I haven't had such good Serbian food since around 2015. There was live music too, it was an unforgettable experience. We're definitely coming back here next year as well. Four of us ate until we were completely full, had two beers each, and paid 50 euros in total.

I recently dined at Galija, and I must say, I was quite pleased with my experience, especially regarding the outdoor area. The meat dishes were excellent, perfectly prepared to my liking. The staff were attentive and provided great service. While I can't speak for the rest of the restaurant, the outdoor dining experience was spot on. April 2024: inside of the restaurant wasn't to my liking, no ventilation, you will choke in cigarette smoke. The grill quality was just ok, nothing special.

Robert B — Google review
The restaurant is in a busy tourist street. The food is very average. The prices are just a bit higher than at other places. However the portion size is quite substantially smaller. For instance, shopski salad about 1/3 in comparison to other places. So, the taste as well as the math aren't there. The zucchini dish was very oily and totally bland. Disappointing experience overall. Would NOT recommend.
Won H — Google review
Yesterday, our last day in Serbia, we wanted to eat here. We googled it and their website stated they closed at 7:00 p.m. We arrived at 6:02 p.m. and were told the restaurant was closed even though people were eating in the dining room. When we told the unfriendly man who “greeted” us that the website said open until 7:00 he gruffly told us the kitchen closed at 6:00, 2 minutes earlier. He was a real jerk. As it turned out we did better anyway at Kafana Meze. Don’t waste your time at Galija where you will be treated rudely-go to Kafana Meze instead which is just around the corner.

We had a really nice lunch here and the food was very tasty and with great service from our friendly waiter. I especially liked the urnebes cheese spread which was delicious with the Serbian salad and bread. The chicken skewer was moist with alot of flavor and the pljeksavica was also good. There are baggers that come by when you sit outside, but just ignore them. We would come back here for the nice meal. 😋🍻👍

McDonald's is a well-established, enduring fast-food franchise renowned for its hamburgers and fries. However, some customers find the prices to be exorbitant compared to their perceived value. In Serbia especially, there are several alternative fast-food options that offer superior quality at a lower cost. With only two self-ordering kiosks available, the capacity may be limited, but during peak hours there appears to be little waiting time.

(Translated by Google) 🏛 Banovina is not only the most beautiful building in Niš – it is a living witness to history and the heart of the city's musical life. Built at the end of the 19th century, at a time when Serbia was awakening as a modern state, this neo-Renaissance beauty was the seat of the Moravian Banovina, and today it is home to the University of Niš. 🎶 But let me tell you – the real magic begins when the Banovina courtyard becomes a stage. The ancient walls around you, the open sky above, the audience close but cultured – everything creates the feeling of being present at something grand and intimate at the same time. 📍 Location? Ideal. In the city center, with a view of the Nišava River, easily accessible both on foot and by bike. 🕰 And let's go back to history – the famous telegram declaring war on Serbia by Austria-Hungary was delivered here in 1914. Yes, this is where the storm of World War I began. 🔔 Conclusion: If you are coming to Niš, check if there is a concert in Banovina. And if there is – go.

Ordinary, small shopping mall. Tidy. Employees are mostly friendly. Prices are quite ok, besides a shop or two that are out of this planet with their extreme prices. Beware of kids game corner, there's a plush toy catching machine that won't allow getting plush toys. Right before the end it suddenly stucks, shakes in order to start moving again, and plush toy just falls off. It would be funny if it's not about stealing from kids on such a low level and ruining their moments of happiness. @Forum: I just have shared my experience with you and everybody else on this planet. Nothing more to add. Just read it in full and do something about it. Useless templates won't help anyone.

A modern shopping mall located in the city center. There is plethora of stores, ranging from affordable to premium brands - something for everyone. It's not nearly as big as shopping malls in Belgrade, though. Forum is equipped with escalators and public toilets, but it doesn't have a dedicated parking, which means you will have to pay for parking on the street.

30Niš Railway Station

Niš Railway Station stands as a vital transportation hub in the heart of Niš, facilitating both train and bus travel. While it offers multiple daily connections to major destinations like Belgrade, travelers should be prepared for some inconveniences. The station is generally clean, though the restroom facilities leave much to be desired. Visitors can enjoy free Wi-Fi and find polite staff ready to assist with any language barriers.
Looks run down compared to its heyday. Ticket office staff speak some English and there are multiple trains daily to Belgrade, costing around 600 dinars in 2nd class and 1000 dinars in 1st class.
Andrew L — Google review
Very old station with nothing, people working at ticket counter speak minimum English so it's better using Google translator, free WIFI in the station. There are 3 trains a day going to Belgrade, 07:30/12:25/15:45, with 1st class ticket at 1,400.0 Dinar. Very slow train running mostly at 30-60km per hour up to Mladenovac, then we were told that there was malfunction of the train so we had to get off the train and to take a bus to Belgrade. This is almost laughable that our last 54kms to Belgrade with the local bus ran faster than the train!!!!
SPNH2233 — Google review
We bought tickets from Niš to Sofia the same day 1h before train departure. It costs RSD1076 and you need to change trains in Dimitrovgrad. The station was sparkly clean but not the toilets, please if you need it do it somewhere else. Don't count on station's. There's free (and reliable) wifi. We didn't see ATMs around but they do accept payment by card. Staff was polite and willing to help even with language barriers. 4 stars just because of toilets lol
Fernando V — Google review
Not bad, but could be better. It’s a big city, and this station deserves some renovation honestly.
Tijana — Google review
Spent just a couple of hours here as I was waiting for connecting train. There is no ATM nearby and there is only one small shop. Otherwise it seems like a good station.

Bus station
When you arrive at the Niš Bus Station, you'll find it to be one of the best bus terminals in Serbia. You can easily reach the nearby fortress by walking for about 20 minutes or opting for a quick taxi ride. If you're planning your next journey, it's advisable to purchase your departure ticket upon arrival; electronic tickets from services like Flix and Getbybus are accepted without additional fees.
The best bus terminal in Serbia. Entry RSD100, Credit card can be used to buy the entry ticket. A WORKING kiosk available if you are in a hurry. One more thing to make the terminal better, electronic departure arrival display will make the terminal perfect! Though, there were more than enough staff around to help guide you to the right bus.
LEE S — Google review
I had a ticket with FlixBus operated by Nis express from Nis to Belgrade and the bus station fee as check in in Nis to enter is 100 Serbian currency per person. The bus departures with 20 minutes delayed. There is a good coffee in front of the bus station to wait for your bus. I advice to arrive at least 30 minutes before to do the check in.
Marta G — Google review
The station has an info booth, bench seating, internal waiting area, and a mini market inside to make purchases serviced by a friendly lady who spoke English which you can pay by card. The only downsides are the entry fee to re-enter if you’re trying to access the only ATM to with draw cash that’s located outside where you buy tickets which has staff monitoring sales or a machine to pay by card, also the bathrooms are paid and no change is given. Bus drivers aren’t that helpful so you’re left to figure out through other passengers when and where connections are. It is clean and safe at least.
Allie H — Google review
100 dinar platform charge which you got tickets for at the desks. Waiting room was closed. No departure boards or information. Only found where we needed to be by asking multiple staff members and other passengers - staff did tried but did not speak great English and we did not speak any Serbian. No information for departures or delays, pay attention to signs in windows of buses.
Bee B — Google review
We bought Flixbus tickets from Nis to Belgrade. You actually need to pay 100 RSD on top of your ticket to enter the bus station. There's no departures board, so we had to ask staff where to catch our bus. The bus was half an hour late departing. It was operated by Nis Express
Dean S — Google review
I really don’t understand why you have to buy ANOTHER ticket to enter the station. I would have missed my bus if another customer would not have bought that ticket for me (the line was long and very slow and the people working there were very unhelpful and unfriendly when I tried explaining to them that my bus leaves shortly and don’t have the time to buy this extra ticket).
Lorenz O — Google review
Any bus station that charges extra to enter the station after you already have a ticket gets 1 star period. Get better Serbia because you are the only ones doing this.
Zachary A — Google review
I thought I'd share my journey after reading some of the bad reviews, as everything went well for me! I arrived early and left my bags in the luggage store (200 dinar per bag for 12 hours) and then went out to look at the market next door. When I came back I bought the ticket I needed for my bus, was told the stand number and it left on time with no problem. When I returned later I used my luggage ticket to go back into the station (otherwise you need to pay 100 dinar per person) and caught my second bus to Belgrade which also left on time, was comfy, had a toilet stop en route and arrived 15mins early! Everyone was helpful and either spoke some English or used Google translate with me and the bus station felt safe and clean. Whenever you are trying to go I think they will help you work it out here!

The service is efficient, and the food has been described as genuine gastro bar fare by patrons. While it tends to get crowded during school hours, it remains a favorite among locals due to its inviting atmosphere.
Super friendly staff, great coffee, amazing snacks. Sit outside if you can as this place is filled with cigarette smoke.

Let's start with the ambient. It has, more or less, modern look and pretty much basic design but is pleasant. It gets little crowdy around school hours, so try to avoid that. With competitive pricing starting at around RSD 2,500 per day, Avis offers a range of vehicles suitable for different needs and budgets. Many travelers have shared positive experiences with this service, often feeling relieved after their rentals went smoothly despite initial concerns from online reviews.
Having read all the negative reviews AFTER renting a car, I must admit I was pretty nervous. However, I have nothing negative to say about my experience with the Avis Nis and I'm happy to recommend them. I rented a car via a third party as the daily rate was by far the cheapest.
Nevenka O — Google review
Scam! If I could give 0 stars I would. Never rent a car from this company as I booked and paid in advance and up on arrival. No one was there and the guy who picked up the phone explained that there is no reservation at that time on my name. So we stayed without the money and the car. The worst experience!!!

SPAM, DO NOT EVER RENT THE CAR FROM AVIS AT NIS AIRPORT, my previous experience is a nightmare. I have reservation for the car for 10 days, landed at airport there was nobody at the counter, was calling the numbers for more than an hour and once I reached a person he told that they do not have any car available and to rent with some other company, saying that my funds will be returned which I never received. SPAM Honestly this will reach th Avis headquarters as I email them and waiting for the response. SPAM

Very disappointed after this experience. We was waiting round one hour somebody come and open the office. They didn’t want to accept the debit cards, only credit card for deposit. Good to say that deposit was round 1000€ and in other companies for the same car range was round 500€. Unfortunately, couldn’t get the service and rent the car at this place so I went back to Hertz. Everything was done in 20 minutes. Never again.
Nenad R — Google review
Late pickup. Called them and was told they are getting the car washed but when the car arrived it was dirty so lame excuse. They didn’t provide a final bill even I asked them to. Very unprofessional. Try to avoid Avis here as there are better options at the same place/airport.

I wish I could give this 0 star! They charged my cc extra $85 for INSURANCE. I called Avis Nis 3 times and get 3 different stories why they additional charged! In additional they changed my daily rate and i end up paying even more! When you rent from this location you will never know how much you will pay on the end! Horrible customer service! Please be aware of insurance SCAM! I will NEVER rent from Avis again!!!
Dal S — Google review
I am not satisfied with AVIS renta car service. I booked and pay everything VIA online service. When I was there to pickup the car, they wanted from me to pay more then 300e for some additional fee. I have asked to cancel my booking and get money back, but they said that's not possible. It was a winter time and too cold and too late, so for me there was a only option to pay additional fee and take the car. The workers on reception are very unpleasant. Be aware of them and double check everything before booking!

The wines were surprisingly good, I had never heard of Serbian wines, but I enjoyed the wines I tasted a lot. And the tour around the winery was outstanding, Marijana is an amazing tour guide. She told the history of the winery in detail, explained the processes in an easy way to understand, and was also able to answer all the questions I had. Highly recommended!

One of the most beautiful winerys I've been to, and I belong to 7 wine clubs. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm. Unlike so many wineries with one big tasting room , there were at least 3 separate, quiet tasting rooms. Serbian house , Roman Empire house, Nemanjic house , The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Every wine we tasted was exceptional and we purchased several,we purchased multiple bottles, the tasting fee was not waived. I think this is the first review I've ever written about anything. Malča is a very special extraordinary winery from 1904 ...unbelievable! Such a relaxed fun atmosphere amazing wines. You don't want to miss this winery. You will not be disappointed. I read some of the earlier reviews… If you looking for the best wines in the world.... Car Constantin .The wine, customer service, family atmosphere, beautiful location… near city Niš ( city airport is very close )highway Belgrade Sofia near by.It doesn't get any better.Malča Winery with restaurant is the absolute perfect place for a fairy-tale wedding. It is family owned from 1904 and they were so extremely accommodating. They made me feel like I was the only goest , they were working with even though I know they have countless weddings and events there. They opened the venue early for the wedding party ,Jelena hostess, was onsite the whole time to ensure everything was flawless. I especially loved the outdoor ceremony location (incredible pictures, very convenient for guests, and you can't hear the traffic from the freeway) and the ability to move inside if the weather didn't cooperate. They allowed us to bring in children ,we were able to securely leave vehicles in the parking lot overnight when they shut the gate. The owners even took pictures of ceremony and texted them to me the next day - they truly go above and beyond to make your day special (and it doesn't hurt that their wine is delicious :) I would HIGHLY recommend!

Nestled in the serene hills above Leskovac, Spomen Park is a captivating tribute to history and artistry, designed by the renowned architect Bogdan Bogdanovic. This unique site features an array of striking monuments dedicated to the victims of fascism, including Mindjusa, alongside a small Jewish cemetery that adds depth to its historical significance. The park's enchanting atmosphere is complemented by the nearby Sv.

One amazing architectural artwork of Bogdan Bogdanović. It is located in Leskovac, south of Serbia. There are monuments besides the main called Mindjuša, dedicted to the victims of fascism. The small Jewish cemetery is also in the park. Above Spomen park is the large cemetery, with the church Sv.Ilija. Mixture of artistic/ magical momuments and cemetery/church above, is ideal for the lovers of religious and magical world.

A well tended, though I feel under-visited, Spomenik. Not the largest or most impressive, but an unusual shape, in a beautiful location high above Leskovac. If you approach from Leskovac, take the road that goes to the right of the Spomen Park and you'll find some parking.

Nestled in the heart of Nis, Park Čair spans an impressive 16.4 hectares, making it the second largest park in the city. This vibrant oasis is divided into two distinct areas: one filled with lush greenery and tranquil spaces for relaxation, while the other boasts a variety of sports and recreational facilities. Visitors can enjoy amenities such as swimming pools—both indoor and outdoor—a skating rink, football fields, a fitness center, and even a bowling alley.

A calm park to be in, full of joyful kids on sunny weekends. Its trees make perfect shadows on hot days!
Mare D — Google review
Park Čair is located in the very center of Niš, on an area of 16,4 hectares. The second biggest park in Nis. The entire complex of Čair consists of two parts, in one part there is a large green area, while the other part consists of sports and recreational facilities (skating rink, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, football fields, fitness center, bowling center, steam bath...). Just because of its rich vegetation and lush greenery, the Turks gave it the name "Chair", which means garden. It's ideal for children during the day. Plenty of space and many entertaining things for them (trampolines, children's castles, slides, water walking ball/balloon, mini electric cars...). Also a good place for roller skating, running, walking, bike riding, street workout, walking a dog or just relaxing on the bench. For refreshment there are dozens of cafes, taverns around the park. In general a very nice place with lot activities during the day, but also during the night.

Ok let be honest, this is the most beautiful and the biggest park in the Niš. You can find here playgrounds for kids, shade for rest, part for workout and restaurants and cafes around for chill. Also there is a sport center Cair, aqua park and football stadium. Early in the morning during spring or summer time is very pleasant to walk or relax in the big shade of the trees.

Historical landmark
The Octagon Palace, unearthed in 1988 during initial excavations in the city field, is an ancient architectural wonder from the 4th century. Initially spanning a colossal area comparable to a football stadium, its present dimensions measure just 11 x 30 meters. The structure's opulent amenities, including an octagonal main hall and underfloor heating, suggest it once belonged to a figure of great prominence.
the octagon palace was discovered in 1988 during the first archaeological excavations in the city field. according to movable archaeological finds (maximinus daia’s coins found in the wall plaster), the building is dates to the middle of the 4th century. it is a complex building, about 11x 30m in size, although it is assumed that it is much larger

Bistra K — Google review
The sight -could- be great if Serbia were to take care of it.... but they don’t. You can see from the over growth that I could not even get to it to see the floor or the walls or anything other than the outside. It’s said that something hundreds of years old doesn’t count enough to take care of. Sad experience. I would suggest skipping it if you are short on time.

Narodno pozoriste Nis, a historical city in Serbian theater, stands as a cultural haven. It has showcased remarkable talent and energy on stage, particularly in their production of Pergolesi's opera La serva padrona by the Student Cultural Center - SKC Nis. The singers and orchestra delivered an outstanding performance, surpassing many contemporary non-classical orchestras on national television.
Niš is one of the first cities to enter the history of Serbian theater, and Narodno pozorište Niš still is the island of culture in this town. Aleksandar Mihailović and Aleksandar Marinković ... hat down to your ingenious talent and energy on stage.

These five stars are only because of the great play we watch every single time in this theatre. Last time we watched visiting Bitef teatar. Everything else beside play and actors is very disappointing. Seats are terrible, if you are a man higher then 2m you won't be able to sit anywhere especially on the balcony. This historical very important place needs to be renovated as quick as possible.

The brutalist architecture influence back in the days can really be seen on it. This building not only hold many historical items, but is still being used to this day. I personally really like the style and feel of the building itself. You should come see it if you're even in the city.

It's the most beautiful building in the entire city, every single corner of it, all of the ins and outs of the place. Besides its' magnificent architecture, its' purpose is astounding as it is a home to many famous actors and plays. The theatre always has a great repertoire so as to never bore the spectators.
