Saarschleife, located in the charming town of Mettlach at the border of France and Luxembourg, is a breathtaking sharp curve of the Saar River. This idyllic natural reserve attracts tourists and locals alike with its stunning landscape. The trek to this popular sightseeing destination may be challenging, but the magnificent view makes it all worthwhile. In addition to its natural beauty, Mettlach offers historical sites and is a shopper's paradise with an outlet center for luxury tableware.
We had a great day at the Saarschleife. Easy to park the car. Nice walks. The views are lovely and there is a great adventure playground on the way to the Saarschleife viewpoint.
Thorsten G — Google review
A great place to spend time in nature. Ideal for families with children, with a large playground (extra fee) and a vast area for walking. Beautiful view of the Moselle River - it amazes us every time we’re there.
Natalia G — Google review
Stunning view, especially at night! After enjoying the breathtaking scenery at the Cloef viewpoint during the day, we returned at night — and it was even more impressive. The view over the Saar river and the surrounding landscape was absolutely magical in the dark. A must-visit for nature lovers!
Henri-Dick R — Google review
I was captivated from the very first minute, from the very first step. You walk along a wooden path that's pleasant for your feet, climbing up and up, and it's so wonderful to see the treetops at arm's length. The panorama is delightful and captivating—you can spend a long time at the very top—a peaceful timelessness. It's beneficial to nourish your taste buds with beautiful views, tactile sensations, sounds, and smells.
Alena S — Google review
Good place to trek and see some good view. One of the best places to trek in Saarland. The view of the horse shoe from the top is amazing. Also I think the whole region is a good point for a small picnic. I visited this place is summer and I heard it is the right season to view the place.
Lily K — Google review
Beautiful place with a nice horse shoe shaped river flow. A gift of nature to witness.
Animesh P — Google review
Lovely scenic boardwalk through the forest. You’re rewarded with a fabulous view at the end. You can also have the view free from down below. It’s okay for €11
Naomi C — Google review
The “Grand Canyon” must see place to visit. €13 for seniors for the tree top walk finishing with the viewing platform over the river valley far below.

Burg Montclair is a medieval castle located near Mettlach, perched on a high mountain ridge overlooking the Saar Loop. Accessible after an 8-minute drive and a 45-minute walk from the Montclair car park, it offers visitors a pleasant hike through the woods. The castle ruins can be explored for a small fee, providing stunning views of the surrounding area.
We crossed the Saar on the small ferry from near Driesbach (need to check when it's running) then walked up the hill to the castle which takes about 45 minutes. Great views, a cafe - though quite a solitary spot ....
Chris C — Google review
Great location. Small but coisy castle, or what is left from him. Note that you will have to walk to it for quite a while. It took us almost an hour, so if you have a possibility, take a bike with you. In the castle there is a Cafe, with simple but good food. Good choice for weekend trip.
Yuri S — Google review
Nice place to visit if you're up for a hike. The castle is about 4.5 km from the closest parking lot. It's not a tough or difficult hike but it is a long one. There's no public restrooms along the way and when I was there the castle was closed till July 29 (2019). There's apparently a restaurant there and you can pay to enter the castle when it's open to the public. Highly recommend if you're in the are and have time for a decent hike.
Craig L — Google review
Park your car next to the river and then take the ferry and have a short and pleasant hike here. Bring cash you can have a drink and a snack at the restaurant and enter this castle. Creditcards are sadly still not accepted here.
Paul R — Google review
We had a super sunny day out... it is a gentle uphill walk but also nice downhill going back, the entrance fee to the castle ruins is only 2€ and you get to see a lot, after we were done viewing we had a great meal with generous portions of freshly prepared salad and I had meatloaf ....Grrreat! Well worth the visit and you'll be surprised to find it's not full of tourists or school trippers who don't want to walk the 7 km round trip. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dave P — Google review
Had fun taking the little ferry over the river to hike up to the castle. Nice castle ruins.
Jaren R — Google review
Very nice place with a small museum and a bistro. The bistro was good, the museum was kind of weird - old stuff and replicas mixed together without notice, all pieces were simply spelled out without much explanation. I also missed an overview of the history of the place itself. Nice target for a hike!
Anna — Google review
Ideal for a walk, with a restaurant located inside the castle. The castle is about 3.5 kbs from the parking so one hour each way walking at a good pace.

Treetop Walk Saarschleife is a 1,250-meter-long elevated wooden bridge that takes you through a forest path and leads to a lookout tower offering stunning views of the Saarschleife natural wonder. Opened to the public in July 2016, it provides a unique perspective of the Saarland landscape. The structure is well-maintained and wheelchair accessible, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. However, finding parking may be challenging on busy days.
Lovely place, 7000sq m of woods. The whole walk from parking to the tree top structure is flat- kids and old folks can easily walk. Walk up to top is also effortless. Spectacular view from top. Windy but splendid view. Must visit with family and kids.
Mahi R — Google review
Very busy but also the best spot to take your family and friends to see the ‘Saarschleife’. It’s a fun walk with some puzzles and riddles along the way for kids. The top can be crowded depending on the weather and time of day. Can take a fair bit until it’s your turn to take the perfect photo ;) You can also buy a season pass which will give you unlimited access for a whole year.
Rouven G — Google review
Lovely place with astonishing view, is very nice to see places in Germany countryside with infrastructure to receive tourist. The view is amazing and they even have an elevated walkway in the middle of the trees. Very easy to access by train and bus. Only issue was the price (12,5€), for a student it was so expensive and the student price was not appealing at all (11,5€), only 1€ discount.
Leonardo V — Google review
Incredible experience for families accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. Interes hike with activities for children and educational facts. View on top from the tower is breathtaking. Totally worth its price. We paid 27 euros for a family ticket of two kids and two adults.
Veronica H — Google review
Cool place with interesting information. With kids makes a lot of sense to go because of the nature explanation. Without you can think about just going to the little free lookout below. View is nearly as good.

Very nice viewpoint to see the saar and Saarschleife You can walk up and then also under towards the saar river Banches are above with view points You can also spot squirrels on the way! Accessible for everyone even wheelchair and strollers! A must when visiting Saarland!
Brent C — Google review
For the price, this is an excellent attraction, as you can spend many hours walking around. The main attraction for us was definitely the tree top walk and the viewing platform. The walk across the boardwalk has several interactive points for children, although I didn't see any information written in English. It isn't too strenuous, and inclines are suitable if you have a pushchair or a mobility walker so everyone can enjoy this experience. As the name suggests, you're walking at tree top heights, therefore thise who have issues with height don't look down. What i would say is, if you're ok with looking straight across at a view (opposed to down), definitely do this, as the views are to behold. On a clear day, you can see for miles, over the woodlands and river Sarr. I would also encourage everyone to slowly walk the boardwalk before the viewing platform, as there are many birds flying around and with many bird feeding stations on the route you are sure to see some beautiful little birds. The 2 we saw a lot of were the Nuthatch & Crested Tit. If you want to spend the day, suggest taking a picnic.

Wolf Park Werner Freund is a research center and park featuring landscaped enclosures that house wolf species from around the world. Visitors can enjoy a free tour on the first Sunday of the month, although it's conducted in German. During the tour, guests are treated to insightful information about wolves and get to witness interactions with these majestic creatures, including feeding sessions. The park offers separate areas for seven wolf groups, making it easier for families to observe these wild animals and learn about their habits and lives.
Really lovely wildlife park with amazing wolves. This place is great to walk round and learn about the wolves without feeling like you’re in a zoo or that the animals are mistreated. It’s completely free but i would leave a small donation as it’s truly a great place.
Lucas C — Google review
It's preset small but free to enter. The caregivers care a lot about the wolves and they have a lot of space. The surrounding forest has some beautiful hiking trails.
Sjoerd P — Google review
The experience was a bit disappointing; only a small portion of the park was opened. The whole tour took 20 mins. We got to see some wolves though. I can't be mad about that. Must visit. And it's free. But check their website first before visiting.
Ronny K — Google review
Great selection of Wolves to see. We saw the Lithuanian Wolves and the Polar Wolves. They were absolutely beautiful. The grounds are stunning Forrest. Ferns, trees, moss, mushrooms, slugs, it was just beautiful. The lady running the park for the day was very nice and kind. The park is free but I encourage you to donate. It’s worth it! We spent a good hour to hour and a half walking around and observing the wolves. Take the trip
Mandy O — Google review
We got to see almost all of the wolves that lived there, except for the black ones. We were so lucky to hear an orchestra of the wolves howling from one end of the park to the other. Even more impressed when Tatjana came to feed them a small deer. Truly impressed!
Egon W — Google review
We visited on a weekend in April. Allow about 1-2 hours to have a good walk around. Signs are in German, French, and English. I cannot believe that this place was free!
Paul B — Google review
It was a first Sunday of the month, so we came for the free tour. We knew that tour will be only in German, and this was a 1st time I regretted to not knowing German. Frau Tatiana had a 30 min cool info about wolves at the first point and then another 15 min at every other stop. She interacted with wolves and fed them chicken. It was amazing to see how friendly wolves are in here. Really lovely experience, even we had pouring rain on us all this time. At the end don't forget to stop by the souvenir store where you can buy cup, magnets, key chain, shirts or hoodie, calendar or book with a photos of local wolves. Truly magic experience seeing wolves. Thank you Frau Tatiana.

Discover the vibrant shopping scene at the Mettlach Outlet Center, nestled in a prime spot on the market square near the picturesque Saarbridge. The center boasts an impressive selection of renowned brands like Zucchi, Bassetti, Lacoste, and Laura Ashley.
I explored the Villeroy & Boch factory outlet, which offered a wide range of their products. It was a fantastic opportunity to pick up new pieces or replace any broken or missing items from my collection. Additionally, the WMF factory outlet was another highlight, offering quality kitchenware and utensils. Overall, the variety and quality of products available at Mettlach Outlet, including these notable factory outlets, made it a rewarding shopping experience for me.

Cloef is a stunning destination offering breathtaking panoramic views accessible via a treetop path. The observation platform provides an incredible vantage point, and visitors can enjoy concessions nearby. Families can explore the area with their pets and take advantage of the playground and wooden trail once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Clean restrooms and affordable parking make for a convenient visit, especially during less crowded times.
Beautiful place to explore with the entire family, including your dog, and when COVID19 restrictions are lifted, the playground and wooden trail look fun. Bathrooms are very clean, parking is 1.50 Euros for 2 hours. I went during the week, so the place was not crowded. Bring 5 cents, and 1 and 2 Euro coins if you like to collect the memorabilia coins. The machine is on the trail. Great place to visit!
Dr. T — Google review
The Cloef viewpoint in Mettlach, Saarland, Germany, is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Saarschleife, a dramatic bend in the Saar River. Visitors often describe the scenery as stunning and well worth the trip. The area is accessible via well-maintained trails, including the Cloef Pfad, which is popular among hikers and dog owners alike. The trail offers scenic walking paths and open spaces, making it an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts and their canine companions. One of the highlights of the area is the Treetop Walk Saarschleife (Baumwipfelpfad), a wooden walkway that leads to a spiral observation tower. From the top, visitors are rewarded with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. While the experience is memorable, some guests have noted that the entrance fee of €12.50 might be considered steep for access to the viewpoint. The Cloef-Atrium in Orscholz serves as a visitor center, providing information and amenities to enhance the experience. Although specific reviews are limited, the facility contributes to the overall appeal of the destination. For those planning an extended stay, accommodations like Landhaus Cloef and Forsthaus an der Cloef offer comfortable lodging options nearby. These establishments provide convenient access to the natural attractions and are well-regarded by guests. In summary, the Cloef viewpoint and its surrounding attractions offer a captivating experience for nature lovers and hikers. The combination of stunning vistas, accessible trails, and nearby amenities make it a worthwhile destination for visitors to the Saarland region.

We visited few places like this in Europe. This one it wasn’t crowded. About 2 hours takes to visit all platforms. If you would like to eat just in front is really nice small hut/bar that you can buy great food. Deposit for glass €5 and make sure you have cash as they don’t accept card. About 15 minutes you have cash machine (ATM). Car park accept coins but easily you can download app and pay by phone (Apple Pay or credit card) doesn’t matter what language you are use or which country you come from. Really great place to visit and so beautiful views from the top. Separate you can pay extra for access to playground.

We visited this place last week and we really loved it. It was first time we were visiting this place just by locating it on maps. The place was really nice. There is a ticket to go to the tree top walk tower. The view is mesmerising. Must visit.

Overall experience in one word can be summarized as awesome. There are different walking areas around here that you visit according to your choice of routes and distance. I really liked the idea of cardiac triangle walk. We walked with kid and toddler (you can bring stroller. It's wheelchair friendly place). Tip : if you decide to go for a walk (we took the 2km route) don't forget to visit ostrich enclosure. Apparently there are also eggs for sale. The parking lot is wide but I find it somewhat overpriced. This place has a toilet facility that actually had toilet paper and soap but sanitation needs work. Because of corona, play zone and observation tower are closed. Some food and drinks are available at the huts (obviously bit pricey) but there are lots of benches available for you to enjoy picnic.

Roman Villa Borg is a reconstructed archaeological park that offers a fascinating glimpse into various aspects of Roman rural life. Situated about 20 minutes' drive from the Old Abbey, it stands as the only one of its kind in Europe. The well-maintained site features a villa, gatehouse, bath, gardens, and an archaeological museum. Visitors can also enjoy a tavern serving 'Roman' beer and generous portions of delicious food.
Lovely place to visit, out in the countryside, not far, about 30 minutes away from the Luxembourg border. Roman Borg is a reconstructed Roman villa that is well-kept and gives its visitors a clear picture of life as it was then, a living museum. The 'tavern' is an actual eatery, and after a tiring tour of the exhibits and buildings, a neal there will be a lovely end to round up the tour.
Tony T — Google review
This reconstructed Roman Villa sits on top of the remains of existing Villa from the 2nd - 3rd Century. There are some artifacts on display, but the Villa is more about the experience. The best time to visit would be when they have a reenactment activity. There is a movie explaining the site, but unfortunately, it is only in German with no subtitles in French, Dutch, or English despite the close proximity to Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Many of the displays have multilingual information. There is even a QR code, but even having T-Mobile Germany, I had no WiFi reception. The site is located in a pretty remote area. There is a café with attentive servers and a selection of Roman themed meals and drinks.
Jœ — Google review

(Translated by Google) It's a shame these castle ruins used to be a really nice place to go for a walk. Now the glass front and gates adorn the castle. As I said, the hike there was done in just under 40 minutes one way... Unfortunately, you ended up standing in front of the locked gates Otherwise the castle isn't really inviting either. Dagstuhl Castle or the Devil's Castle have more charm... And above all cheaper... Because original and free ;) the only thing that was annoying in my opinion was the 2 hour walk to avoid otherwise I would have done much better I would have been able to invest if there had been a sign with opening times. I saved 2 families from the children's gossip and said that the castle was closed. It used to be much more pleasant for a family outing. Unfortunately today it's just a disappointment :( (Original) Schade diese burgruine war früher echt mal ne schöne location zum spazieren gehen..

Super thermal aquatic center, big enough, clean well organized and good price. The massage was the highlight for me: I did "zeit für mich" massage, the man who performed the massage, was cheerful, professional and very polite. He did very relaxing massage🥰 the best Ive ever had..many thanks👏

My husband and I love this place. We enjoy the peace and tranquility that the wellness area offers and spend most of our time in the outdoor pool, basking in the sun and just letting the day come to a close. The evening is also nice with the various colored lights, which add a special atmosphere and warmth. This wellness area is not recommended for children or teenagers that want to be loud and rambunctious!

(Translated by Google) The rehabilitation clinic in Orscholz offers an overall positive experience. Particularly noteworthy are the excellent organization with weekly schedules, the friendly and courteous staff, and the easy accessibility and signage of all areas. The rooms are sufficiently large and have televisions, and free, fast Wi-Fi is available. The palm garden is a real highlight and invites you to relax. The food is good, but the portions could be larger. While the facilities are functional, a modernization of the rooms and furniture would be desirable. Even though there are recreational activities such as billiards and table tennis, these are often not used due to a lack of interest or physical limitations among fellow patients. The professionalism of the doctors is evident, even if the doctor's offices appear to be in need of renovation. The current renovation of windows and doors and the planned installation of modern Samsung TVs in all rooms are positive. App integration for training plans and other information would further facilitate the stay. Despite minor shortcomings, the positive aspects outweigh the negative ones, and the clinic is highly recommended for rehabilitation.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, it's still 1* too much when it comes to the Johannesbad Saarschleife Clinic in Mettlach-Orscholz. The clinic is located in a quiet, idyllic area and offers good access to leisure activities such as the gym, wave pool and sauna. The nature surrounding the clinic is ideal for walks, which is beneficial for patients' recovery. Unfortunately, there are significant deficiencies that make the stay difficult. The rooms are anything but modern - on the contrary, they appear very outdated. They haven't been renovated for at least 20 years. The paint is peeling on the walls and the wallpaper is crumbling. The doors don't close properly and the heating makes unpleasant noises at night. Showering becomes a game of chance as the water temperature fluctuates greatly - sometimes it's ice cold, other times it's scalding hot. You have to constantly be careful not to burn yourself. While cleanliness is generally acceptable, the floors are old and worn and the beds are sagging. The clinic has apparently invested little in these areas in recent years, which reinforces the impression of a lack of care and modernization. Added to this is the completely inadequate handling of interpersonal conflicts within patient groups. Instead of resolving conflicts professionally, those affected are advised to “endure” them. Instead of offering patients support, they are left alone with their problems. This is unacceptable for a psychosomatic clinic. You could almost think that conflict resolution is not on the employees' curriculum. Another step in the wrong direction was the decision to close the small dining room for neurological and psychosomatic patients since January 2025 and to create a room for management. Now up to 500 patients eat at the same time in a huge dining room. The atmosphere is more reminiscent of a crowded train station than of a room in which one can relax - particularly problematic for anxiety and tinnitus patients. In addition, dealing with anxiety disorders and physical complaints remains inadequate. Instead of understanding and support, you are left alone with your fears. Even physical complaints such as a cold are dismissed and dismissed as malingering. Due to these numerous deficiencies and the lack of support in important areas, I unfortunately cannot recommend the acute clinic. It has major deficits in infrastructure, in dealing with patients and in the treatment of psychosomatic illnesses. There is an urgent need for improvement at all levels. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this clinic!

The building is very large, and the walks are long, but exercise doesn't hurt. The rooms are functional and clean! Yes, they're not new and not the most modern...but, as I said, they're tidy, large, clean, and functional. The food is good and varied. Always fresh salads, two menus to choose from at lunch, always a soup, and a large selection of raw vegetable salads for dinner. The only thing I missed was a selection of fresh fruit in the morning. The doctors and therapists are very nice and attentive to your needs. The other staff, from reception, room service, kitchen staff, and concierge to security, were always friendly and helpful. I had a lot of treatments, some days almost too many. A beautiful palm garden invites you to linger. The wave pool and exercise pools are perfectly fine, and the three whirlpools are perfect for relaxing...okay...the showers are a bit dated, but snuggled up in a bathrobe, you can sneak down the hallways to your own room and shower in peace. The fitness area is very nice, and the sports therapists are all friendly and fun...I really discovered the joy of sports through their support. I also thought it was great that we were always allowed to play badminton in the gym. Many thanks to everyone from all areas for making my stay so pleasant. Marion D. Ich hatte sehr viele Anwendungen, an manchen Tagen fast zuviel. (Translated by Google) I spent five weeks at the clinic and I'm absolutely thrilled. As someone who doesn't like going to new places, I felt truly at home from the first moment to the last! Of course, the first two or three days were very busy finding the right path and space for the various treatments (the clinic is quite extensive), but once I'd gotten used to that, the searching no longer mattered, and I was able to fully devote myself to my therapy. The therapy measures were multifaceted – in addition to traditional group (approximately 12 people) and individual therapy, there were also art, movement, and mindfulness therapy. Once I got into them, these therapy sessions were profound and effective. I also participated in a large number of other relaxation and physical fitness activities. Massage, hydrojet, aquagym, yoga, the gym, and gymnastics in the beautiful forest directly adjacent to the clinic are just a few of the numerous options. In my free time and on weekends, I was able to use the sauna and swimming pool free of charge and, of course, go hiking in the beautiful surroundings. ``` The food was really good and the staff in the dining room were very friendly! All the other staff around me were also friendly, whether it was the doctor, the receptionists, the cleaning staff, etc. From my perspective, I can only recommend this clinic. I would come back!!! Freibad Mettlach is a spacious and well-equipped swimming pool with plenty of amenities. It offers ample space for visitors to relax, with large grassy areas, shaded tables, and benches for picnics. The facilities include changing rooms, showers, a ice cream parlor, and a small snack bar. There are three pools catering to different age groups and preferences: one for toddlers, another with a slide, and a third featuring diving boards.
A lovely small town summer swimming pools complex. The only minus is just a short pool (25 m) for swimmers. The rest is wonderful: water not too warm, the pools in stainless steel, green grass, lots of shade, wonderful location, great buffets and e very interesting main building that speaks architectural history of the region. Eco-friendly, as they apparently warm up their water with a solar system.

Park your car in Mettlach, cross the bridge and look for the hiking path called Tafelrunde, the symbol is a chef's tophat. It means culinary path. Spectacular geology, serene woods, many rocky outcroppings of Devonian times, steep slopes and then, when your path has descended, a concession for refreshments on the Saar River. You van cross the river by a small ferry boat which operates until the end of October. Ascend to the castle Montclair on the other side, where you can find food and drink in the courtyard of the red ruined castle. End your hike in the outlet heaven, which is Mettlach. Good restaurants.

But the tour is rewarding... Very, very clean, except for the discarded tissues. Some say tissues aren't trash. Every white spot on the forest floor hurts my eyes when I'm hiking. So finally stop the stupid habit of throwing away tissues. Sure, they'll disappear, but until then, they're just annoying... Thanks to the people who went to the trouble of clearing the path and the view... (Translated by Google) The German Hiking Institute has awarded this hiking trail with 78 points. Approximately 350 meters of altitude have to be overcome in both directions over just over 14 km. The recommended hiking direction is clockwise. The most beautiful rest areas are in the first third: sensory benches on the Krewelsberg and in the “primeval forest” below the summit, at the Semmerhütte, “between the Grethen” and at the “Rehchens Kopf”. Since the path is also strenuous and requires stamina and sure-footedness, we prefer to walk in an anti-clockwise direction. The start and finish point is in Wehingen at St. Mark's Square. There is parking space there and after the hike you can stop off at the “Bistro Alte Schule” pizzeria, which is located on the square (open Tuesday to Saturday from 5:00 p.m. and Sunday all day). You should plan 4.5 hours for the hike with a break. We start with field, meadow and forest sections and some uphill sections. Before the Blechmühle, the first descent takes place through a “ridge” along a narrow path. After further wide forest paths, which mainly lead through the Bonnersbach valley, there is an ascent through another “ridge” to the first of the rest areas described above (km 8.5), which are now each about 800 m apart. Here the path to the Semmerhütte runs across orchards. Then the climb to the slopes of the Kewelsberg begins. Greatest attention is required here! The path runs along a narrow path through a sea of limestone covered in moss. Low-hanging branches, protruding roots, “stumbling blocks” everywhere, constant ups and downs and constant changes of direction make this section a (nature) experience. At the end of this passage there is a sensory bench (417m above sea level) from which you have a fantastic view of the Merzig Basin and the Black Forest High Forest.

At times it goes through rustic forests, great fields and beautiful meadows, some of the steep sections have natural stairs. My recommendation is sturdy shoes as it also involves rocky sections, slopes and washed-out paths. It is most beautiful early in the morning, in pure nature. The dream loop is an approx. 14 km long circular route that is very well marked. Along the way you have a few opportunities to rest on benches and enjoy the great landscape. Also great for dogs My tip, early in the morning and in spring or early summer, the smell of grass, the forest and the many natural meadows is simply great (Original) Super toller Wanderweg der zurecht den Namen Traumschleife verdient. It's very varied, with great views, forests, and orchards, not too difficult. It does climb a bit at the beginning, past wind turbines, but then descends again. 20Kirche St. Lutwinus

Catholic church
Kirche St. Lutwinus is a beautiful and inviting church with many intricate details to discover upon closer inspection. It serves as the parish church of von Boch, featuring porcelain Stations of the Cross and a stunning mosaic-adorned choir canopy. Visitors can also experience impressive Easter masses with Latin readings and exquisite choral singing. The church's historical significance adds to its appeal, offering a serene atmosphere for prayer and reflection, especially during festive services such as Christmas midnight mass.
(Translated by Google) I find this church particularly interesting. From the outside it is very attractively designed and looks typically like a German church. But its special charm lies hidden inside. To me the church looks very Mediterranean. The absolute highlight for me is the ceiling design in the choir room of the church. The design with Venetian gold and glass mosaic reminds me of many old Roman church buildings. But the entire interior with the extraordinary floor covering with Mettlach tiles and mosaics made from Mettlach clay stick material is also unique. The entire interior design clearly shows the influence of the town's largest company, Villeroy & Boch. I think without the company's generous support at the time, Mettlach would certainly not have received such a wonderful sacred building. Original quote from a church guide "The construction work was in the hands of the Villeroy & Boch stoneware factory". Other features of the church that are worth seeing for me include the altars, the pulpit, the stained glass windows and especially an extraordinary terracotta Stations of the Cross. The wall mosaics on the two side altars are also remarkable. In addition to the many mosaics, the many colorful pictures (I don't know if they are frescoes) depicting the life of the church's patron, above the arches of the central nave, give the church a special charm. In my opinion, the entire decoration of the apse, the vaults and side walls of the choir with many special (Venetian) materials gives the church its extraordinary character. The church windows are also exceptional. After the supposedly particularly colorful and original church windows were destroyed during the war, they had to be completely replaced after the war. This resulted in the unique choir windows and the large portal rosette with alabaster panes from Volterra. According to church leaders, these are completely unique north of the Alps. I didn't particularly notice these windows inside the church; it was only when I looked from the outside that I noticed their special feature.

From this vantage point, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Oberscholz, where some buildings have been reconstructed using stones from the very cliffs themselves.

Its current size is supposedly only about 40% of its original size. Where could the rest have disappeared to? Locally, the rock is known simply as "the castle." Legend has it that the castle of the Lords of Orkelsfels was located here. Unfortunately, there is no evidence of this. In 1937, the Reich Forestry Master declared the rock a natural monument. There's no sign of a castle, and little of a view either. A shame. Only the surroundings are beautiful. Unfortunately, the feeding crib at the exit was already closed on Friday! No well-coordinated opening times, especially since the advertising board at the entrance attracts people without specifying the opening times. Binoculars at the top didn't work despite being thrown in (1eur). Nice view and exciting experience, but still too expensive. Then enjoy the view of the Cloef, 42m lower.

(Translated by Google) Way too expensive in my opinion. I think €12.50 per adult is too expensive, especially since the “attractions/stations” up to the observation tower are more for children. So if you go there as a family there's a lot of money going on. Too bad. ! Schade. !

(Translated by Google) Entrance fee with child, 2 adults and grandma is expensive. Beautifully built, but of course the best thing is the view. They are also available for free downstairs. The absolute height of the rip-off is the fact that the exit leads directly to the entrance to the playground, where you can pay another 30 euros for a child to have fun. There we are, walking on the summit path and sitting in the playground at over 70 euros.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz, a modern arts center located in Metz, is a futuristic building with an undulating roof designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. It is a satellite branch of the Pompidou Centre in Paris and features ambitious temporary exhibitions from Europe's largest modern-art collection. The center hosts cultural events, talks, and youth projects, making it a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
Centre Pompidou-Metz is a really cool spot in Metz with some unforgettable architecture—like the entrance that looks kinda like 😂, which made me chuckle. Inside, the art is just as interesting. My favorite was this elephant sculpture wrapped in white cloth—it was super striking. There wasn’t one main theme that grabbed me, but there was a good mix of contemporary art to check out. The staff were nice, and I liked that all the art info was in both English and French, which helps tourists a lot. I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family, especially if they’re into art. The unique building, varied exhibits, and friendly vibe make it worth a visit.
Krunal T — Google review
Definitely an amazing place! The architecture of the space is charming and makes the visit feel special. The artworks are interesting, modern, and very diverse. However, some of the pieces deal with sensitive topics in a very visual and direct way and I believe they should be labeled with a trigger warning. It’s not always suitable for sensitive audiences. Still, it’s a unique experience…
Sabina C — Google review
The art will make you angry (it’s a banana. Taped to the wall ffs.) but you know what? Good art should make you feel something, and there’s some very very good art here. Of course there is. The building itself is a breathtaking masterpiece as well, with well laid out and inventive gallery spaces, and all the amenities and accoutrements you’d expect from a world class institution. Excellent restaurant. Clean washrooms. And you didn’t hear it from me, but if you’re stuck for luggage storage waiting for your train, you can walk right in and store your bags for a euro. And you don’t even have to go into the museum ! Just go - it’s one of Metz’s main attractions.
Greg M — Google review
The architecture of the Centre Pompidou alone is worth the visit – bold, elegant, and full of light. I explored two unforgettable exhibitions: Maurizio Cattelan’s ironic, provocative works and Marina Abramović’s participative experience “Counting the Rise.” Although I didn’t have enough time to take part in the participatory tasks set up in Abramović’s exhibition space, I still found the concept inspiring and thought-provoking. The atmosphere invites deep reflection and engagement with the human experience. In addition, on the second floor, visitors can discover works by over 40 international contemporary artists – a diverse and fascinating collection that adds even more depth and colour to the visit. You should definitely plan to spend a few hours or more to fully appreciate everything. An inspiring blend of architecture, performance, and contemporary art – highly recommended!

The Metz outpost of the famous Parisian contemporary art museum does not disappoint! The architecture is interesting and the exhibits are first class. The museum wasn't too busy either, which was rather nice. The kids very much enjoyed the museum as well, especially the temporary Maurizio Catellan exhibit. We found the staff to be friendly. Very highly recommended!
Roel F — Google review
It was so much fun to explore, and the architecture was even more captivating from the inside. The wooden construction was truly impressive. Looking at the artworks inside was really enjoyable. Entry was free for those under 26, and the regular ticket cost €14.
Zohra G — Google review
This branch of the Pompidou modern art museum in Paris was opened in 2010. It is much more manageable than the main branch in Paris and the art is absolutely amazing. A 20 minute walk from the historic center of Metz. Or take the MA or MB bus using the ticket machines at most major stops. Highly recommend a 2-3 hour visit.

The Experience Center of Villeroy & Boch is a small but charming museum located in an ancient abbey. It offers a fantastic environment to learn about the history of porcelain and admire beautiful decorations. Visitors can explore the brand's historical review, including a video presentation in English, and witness how ceramic products are made. The center provides an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in ceramic heaven, where history, form, and function converge in a ceramic format.
If you are a fan of this brand or someone who is interested in the history of a porcelain Factory, then this is the place for you. Absolutely Exquisite and delightful tour through the history of the company. Outside of the museum are wonderful restaurants and an outlet so you can buy their were lovely product. Very traditional brand of Germany and Luxembourg. Don't miss it

Fantastic experience! I visited twice, and it was the perfect adventure for any Villeroy & Boch fan. I do wish there was a book about the brand's history or some kind of merchandise available. By the way, your ticket gets you a discount at the outlet, and you can even use your membership points as payment—even if you're registered outside of Germany. Guess how many gorgeous items I'm bringing home with me!? 😄
Alisa N — Google review
It is like a huge advertisement for the brand not a real museum. You can find little information about technology and knowledge. Btw outlet is good for shopping

A wonderful museum in a stunning location. You truly immerse yourself in the atmosphere and history of Villeroy & Boch. There’s so much fascinating information about the process of making tableware and sinks, along with many historically important exhibits for the brand. Overall, the museum is filled with beauty and aesthetic charm. Plus, there is a huge outlet store right by the museum where you can buy tableware at prices lower than in regular retail shops.

Playground
Abenteuerwald Saarschleife is a family-friendly park situated at the end of the treetop path Saarschleife. While some find the entrance fee a bit pricey, others opt for an annual family pass for unlimited visits. The park features diverse and well-maintained play equipment including zip lines, slides, climbing structures, and more. However, navigating with a stroller can be challenging due to stone paths.
Top experience for very reasonable price! The only drawback are paths made out of stones which is very difficult to go with a stroller. As of pricing, we buy every year the family pass for the whole season for 49 EUR and you can come as much as you want, which makes the entrance fee very reasonable.
Stanislav R — Google review
This park is at located at the end of the treetop path Saarschleife. In my opinion it is a bit on the pricey side. I believe we paid 20 euros for the family ticket (2 adults and 3 children). Children over the age of 3 were required to purchase a ticket to enter. The play equipment is varied and well maintained. There are zip lines, slides, climbing structures, an in-ground bounce thing (I am not really sure how to describe it but the kids were jumping on it like a trampoline), etc. I didn't take very many pictures because I was too busy chasing after the littles, but there are a lot of things for the kids to do. The bathrooms are right at the entrance. There is also vending machine there stocked with various teas and lemonades. No food that I could see.The exit is at the second level. You can also receive a stamp at the second level to exit the park and go to the free section. The free playground has two really large metal slides, a seesaw, a swing, and a play structure. If you don't feel like paying you can definitely still have fun in that area. Despite the price I think this would be a great place to take the kids, especially if you pack your lunches; you can have a picnic.
Tania D — Google review
Disappointing and expensive. The slide that our son of 4 saw from the treetop walkway was not even part of the playground. It was part of a cafe nextdoor. We paid 22 euros and when we walked towards the slide he liked we realized we were trapped behind the fence of the playground.
Niek — Google review
Nice place for kids to play. No drinking water fountain or cafe or other place to get some drink or food. Kids enjoyd it even if bit too crowdy. BUT to pay for ALL adults 8Eur!! Not appropriste at all! We payed for the grandma 8Eur and she did not use anything there, same for us, the parents!. Shame!

Castle
Burg Saarstein is a beautifully modernized castle that showcases stunning architectural updates while retaining its historical charm. However, it's important to note that this impressive structure is privately owned and not accessible to the public. While you may admire it from afar, exploring its interior remains off-limits for visitors.

There was never, and remains nothing of a building. The place had been used as a grill area for years, illegally. And all that remains are smashed beer bottles, and 3 moss-covered benches. Please don't waste your time hoping to see something.

(Translated by Google) The journey is not worth it. In the middle of the forest there are a few old wooden planks used as stairs, but they are rotten and covered. But never from castle times either. When you walk up the stairs you can't see anything. A fire pit made by young people, nothing else. No remains of walls, not even shapes that suggest a castle or building. You can't navigate here with Maps either!

(Translated by Google) Saarstein Castle is a derelict hilltop castle on a mountain tongue above the Wellesbach Gorge. The castle was built in 1351 by Bishop Baldwin of Trier, probably in connection with the siege of Montclair Castle opposite. However, it is still standing, halfway, while Saarstein has practically completely disappeared. That probably says a lot about the siege. The castle was last mentioned in 1439 when it was owned by Arnold von Sierck; today only small remains of the wall and countless stones can be seen.
