Montagne de Bueren is a famous attraction in Herstal, featuring a long stone staircase that leads to stunning city views from the top. The historic center nearby offers renowned streets like Hors-Chateau and Feronstree, with the option to climb the 374 steps of Montagne de Bueren for those seeking an active adventure. Additionally, visitors can explore the passageways around Montagne de Bueren and discover hidden treasures along the way.
Stairs to heaven, build to allow soldiers easy access from citadel do city. Now integrated within city buildings makes amazing impression around view for city and surroundings. It’s worth to climb 374 steps to look at historic buildings and see a view over a Liege from last 374 step on the top. It’s most visited place in Liege.

This was a really cool bar, right next to the giant steps. Downstairs you were able to get food, upstairs and outside was just a bar. They had all their own beers on tap as well as some other local breweries. If the weather is good the garden was a great spot for a drink.
Luke W — Google review
Probably the most impressive flight of stairs I’ve ever seen & climbed to be fair, and I’ve been up more than a few stairs in my time. Needed to catch my breath now & again! Wouldn’t like to be the postman here (yes there are letterboxes) As the signs keep telling you, keep the noise down to respect the local residents.
Toxteth G — Google review
Montagne de Bueren is one of the most impressive spots in Liège. Climbing all those steps might be a bit of a challenge, but once you reach the top, it’s absolutely worth it. The view over the city is truly breathtaking — especially at sunset, it looks like a painting. Just be careful on the way down… your legs might still think you’re climbing up! 😄🏙️
Niho — Google review
A nice short work out if you fancy it. Saw a few locals running up and down. Lovely views along the way if you stop and turn around and it leads to a prominent monument and viewpoint. Plenty of routes leading on from the top to wander back down or just take the stairs down. It’s a public pathway so no need to book or buy tickets just walk.
Michael C — Google review
Worth the climb! Most famous location in liege. Suitable for families to visit. MUST SEE all the view points after going up hill. Only disadvantage is for wheel chairs and baby strollers. We will need to carry them with us to the top.
Sharanyan R — Google review
Good exercise with breath taking views up and down the stairs. You can count them as you go to see how many they are
Gerald N — Google review
It has around 364 steps, built early as a passage to the city. You will find amazing views of the Liege city from the top. On reaching the top you will find a hospital and view points

La Boverie is a renowned art museum located in the lush Parc de la Boverie, housed in the former Palais des beaux-arts de Liege, which was originally built for the 1905 Liege International. The museum boasts a diverse collection of over 700 French and Belgian paintings dating from the 1850s onwards, featuring works by prominent artists such as Emile Claus and Paul Gauguin.
This stunning building is recently renovated and expanded and houses a small collection of paintings, including few works of major modern masters. It is most importantly organising spectacular temporary exhibitions in its huge halls that attract people from all over the region. The museum’s cafe is also very well placed to enjoy nice basics while resting between the various exhibitions.
Nikos P — Google review
Lovely museum next to a beautiful park—walking through the fall colors was worth the trip alone! The Robert Doisneau exhibition was excellent and surprisingly extensive, but they didn’t accept the Musée Pass for it, which was disappointing. The café has a limited menu, but my sandwich was delicious and fairly priced. Be prepared for parking challenges: the island is basically impossible, so park at the convention center or the mall and walk over.
Jean-Pierre S — Google review
An elegant neoclassical building houses a delightful collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artworks. During my visit, there was a change in exhibitions; unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to view the permanent collection, but I was not disappointed. It is a must-visit if you love art and are visiting Liège
Andrei P — Google review
Small but very nice museum, several pieces ordered chronologically from late renaissance to a large space dedicated to modernart from the 20th century. The architecture itself looks classic from the outside but is definitely more modern from inside. It’s a must visit if you come to Liège
Brice P — Google review
Nice little museum, not many things to see, but free of charge.
Marios T — Google review
Must-see museum nestled in a relaxed park with good permanent collection and well-rounded temporary exhibitions. The empire building houses a fine permanent collection with works throughout multiple centuries which has an emphasis on Belgian artists such as Henri Evenepoel, Paul Delvaux and Jean-Guillaume Carlier. The museum often also hosts well-thought out temporary exhibitions; (05/2025) Ars - Mechanica was about products the famous Belgian weapons manufacturer FN Herstal.
Simon C — Google review
Great permanent collection. Just €5 entry. Set in a lovely building by the water surrounded by parklands. Lots of fabulous impressionist and neo impressionist paintings. Signac. Monet. More modern works too. Ben Nicholson. Loved it!
Ben H — Google review
The rich collection of this museum takes its place in a beautiful building of 1905、created for the world's fair in Liège that attracted 7.000.000 visitors. The collection is fairly impressive and includes artworks of the greatest masters. The temporary exhibitions are always very well made、which is not surprising as Le Louvre is generally involved. The museum boutique and restaurant (nice specialty of bagels) are interesting. A very nice place that you must see if you are in Liege.

The Palace of the Prince-Bishops is a renowned 16th-century landmark in Liege, featuring stunning Neo-Gothic and provincial architecture. The west wing was transformed in the 18th century, adding to its grandeur. Visitors are captivated by the massive colonnaded courtyard and occasional access to a second ornate courtyard.
Thank you for a warm reception, friendly service and such a magical environment. We will most certainly see you agan soon. Great visit and worth your while.

A not-so-hidden gem in the heart of the city, a must see for any architecture enthusiast. It is actively used by government, so dont expect to go inside. The courtyard is enough, though.

Beautiful palace and square- worth visiting when in Liege !
Kamil N — Google review
Beautiful building that is still active today. I recommand visiting the inner court, it is quite nice too. Also: come on weekends when people don't work!
Romaric B — Google review
Architect is beautiful. Visiting can be done in like 5 min because there’s nothing to do. So it’s suitable to just drop by if it happened to be on your way. No need to come here for it
Giang N — Google review
No ticket needed, you can visit the courtyard for free
Katia P — Google review
The Palacio de Los Principes-Obispos is the former seat of the Prince-Bishops of Liege. It’s an imposing building dominating the entire northern side of Place St Lambert. The facade is similar to renaissance style. It’s fine to wander around the courtyard and the cloisters, which are still amazing to look at, but it’s not possible to enter the building, but the city had the foresight to provide plaques with information about the building. I think there are 60 columns supporting the arcade in the courtyard area and each is supposed to be unique. I had a good look at quite a lot of them and could not see any duplication. A fantastic building, pity it’s not really open to the public.

The Museum of Walloon Life in Liege offers a fascinating journey through the history and culture of the region, particularly focusing on the 19th century. The museum boasts an impressive collection that includes a drawing by Vincent Van Gogh, as well as over 1400 works on paper from the 16th and 19th centuries. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Liege puppet shows performed by Theatre des Marionettes, providing insight into local wit and historical significance.
This is a very expansive museum of regional history. It has many exhibits of interest to historians, sociologists, anthropologists, artists, designers, or people interested in the Wallon region. I’d mark it as a must see when in Liége.
Dan N — Google review
Very very nice museum that will helps any visitor to understand the complex and frigile Belgium history. This museum draws the line of a very socialist past, deeply connected to the hard labor history. This museum is definitely a must, if you visit Liège and if understanding history maters to you.
Brice P — Google review
Entertaining, but I found most of the exhibits not very related to Waloonia ☺️. The presentation is very beautiful! Interesting posters!

Fabulous. I spent three hours there. BUT…… so much is explained in French. If you are a French person, you already know what life is like in your region, this is your opportunity to tell everyone else about your culture.

Three floors of displays and articles about Liége and Walloon. Very interesting museum with a lovely cafe too. QR codes all around the museum give the option of listening to articles in 3-4 languages.

Nestled in the historic heart of Liège, Le Grand Curtius Museum is a captivating destination that invites visitors to explore 7,000 years of art and history. Opened in March 2009 after extensive renovations, this museum occupies a stunning mansion originally built for Jean de Corte, an affluent arms dealer. The building itself is a masterpiece of Mosan Renaissance architecture, showcasing beautiful red bricks and intricate stonework.
One of the best regional museums I have come across in years. Clever and engaging displays, a beautiful and important art and archaeological collection.
Alexandre M — Google review
The collection of arms is quite impressive, although it could include a bit more of post-ww2 firearms. I must say the light is terrible in most of that section, with one case of the place being so dark I had to use a flash. Still worth a visit, they posess a number of unique items that you probably cannot see elsewhere. I only visited the firearm section so can't say anything about other parts. There are free lockers inside, and if you're under 26 the ticket is free, that seems to apply only on sundays though.
Piotr — Google review
Underutilized museum with interesting collection on the edge of the city center. Separate weapons museum with a few pieces you might not see anywhere else. No crowds, only a handful of other people. Worth a visit.
Anthony G — Google review
Good regional museum that could use some maps for orientation. We kept getting lost and stuck between various immersive theatre groups. I'd suggest keeping immersive theatre performances outside opening hours as it's a little confusing for visitors. The Roman glass collection is impressive as is the medieval art. I was a little disappointed by the early medieval (Merovingian / Carolingian) collections. Some objects are not stored where you'd expect. (I struggled to find the Merovingian brooch which is shown at the entrance.) Can't speak to the weapons collection as we only looked at the swords. There is a fairly random mummy on the way there.
Sophie L — Google review
The Curtius Museum is a little like a local history museum with a collection worthy of a national museum. The glass collection is very special with some beautiful examples of St. Lambert and Art Nouveau glassworks. The collection of Napoleonic era clocks, the wood and stone religious sculptures are also worth a long visit. It's a pity there's very little English in the description of the exhibits. Normally I'd remove one star, but I so enjoyed the museum, I'll let this one pass.
Macedonboy — Google review
Excellent weapons museum, there is a lot to see
Oleh S — Google review
Museum has probably the best collection of Rifles and Muskets we have ever seen …. From earliest Matchlocks through early breech load rifles to modern day …. A must see for any weapons buff
Enda — Google review
Great weapons collection, but the lighting is abysmal. How a museum director signed off on that is beyond me, and I’ve got pretty darn good low light sight. Having trouble seeing stuff in a museum is maddening. You had one job, to freakin show your collection.

Excellent staff, you get a free iPad with ticket that has videos and audio as you go round. Very few exhibits - its various layers of stonework.
Andy W — Google review
A museum worth visiting. It's informative about the history of Liege and its churches. You can also find many ancient archaeological remains. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend it.
Aeren Ç — Google review
Lovely museum and definitely worth visiting, though a little under-interpreted. The history of the city is obviously fascinating, but would benefit from more context or at least signposting to another museum where you can find broader context (e.g. Why did Charles the Bold burn the place down? Why was the cathedral destroyed to begin with? These things are alluded to presumably assuming background knowledge but never actually explained.) You often find yourself looking at undated finds or remains and wondering what exactly you are looking at (part of the Roman villa? the gothic cathedral? something else?) Some additional signposting would be great for those of us who aren't experts. I suggest getting the tablet because the booklet doesn't actually include all the content. I found the part acknowledging the challenges getting local politics to see the value of the site refreshing. Clearly sense prevailed in the end.

The Aquarium-Museum of Liège is a captivating destination for both nature enthusiasts and families. It offers an extensive display of aquatic life, featuring over 150 species in 50 pools, including impressive sharks. The museum showcases a diverse collection of preserved specimens from around the world, ranging from insects to large mammals like gorillas and rhinoceroses. Visitors can marvel at the 19-meter skeleton of a fin whale and explore exhibits on the evolution of life and natural history.
Super fun museum, it was themed in halloween the people were friendly and a lot of new things we learned!
Vanspoor R — Google review
The museum is nice with a variety of the ocean world creatures. The science & the animal sections were ok, but not that amazing. The kids will definitely enjoy the ocean fish variety. Toilets were very dirty. There is a section on the entrance that sells bracelets with very affordable prices, i totally recommend.
Talal K — Google review
Nice little museum with a variety of rooms, including a 45-minute planetarium showcasing and guides. The people working there were very friendly. Everything is explained in multiple languages, too! The aquarium was a bit smaller than expected and a bit unkept (dust, dead fish). The building is also under construction, so some rooms are also empty. Other than that, it was a nice experience for little money (as a student). Also, there are two souvenir coins to collect here; one with sharks, which I got, and one with the building (2 euro each).
William M — Google review
In need of some much needed upgrading, the aquarium is nice and the variation of fish is good. The museum is interesting. Planetarium was good. The building itself is stunning but does need some upgrading. We paid just over 60 euros for 6 of us. I wouldn't pay that again but enjoyed ours 2.5 there.
Emma C — Google review
The museum has some interesting objects and features. The venue is in bad shape and that on itself is understandable, but it is covered in dust (visitors play a game by writing on the dust covered glasses). It was the dirtiest museum I experienced ever.
John D — Google review
Visited the Aquarium Musée of the University of Liege. In my humble opinion one can't keep fish in such small and overcrowded basins or tanks. It's disgraceful!
Hugo R — Google review
I visit the aquarium every time I visit Liege and I'm always pleasantly surprised with the changes and upgrades made between each visit. The variety and quantity of exhibits are amazing and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. The interior of the building itself seems a bit tired but improvements are being made. I can highly recommend the aquarium portion of what is on offer as there's lots to look at and it's well priced.
Lucy A — Google review
There is a lot of potential here to make this place wonderful. Unfortunately, today, this place is run down, feels old and outdated, and is you like aquariums, you probably visited bigger ones. It's not a bad place but needs to be modernized. We enjoyed our stay.

Marché de la Batte is a lively and expansive street market that has been a staple of Liege since the 16th century. Held every Sunday along the picturesque banks of the Meuse River, it spans over 1.5 kilometers and offers an array of goods, from local produce like fruits, vegetables, and cheeses to books, plants, and clothing. The market is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, featuring stalls selling everything from artisan products to quirky second-hand items.
Great activity on a Sunday morning. Plenty of vendors with meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, clothes, handicrafts, and prepared foods for snacking.

The Collegiate Church of Saint Bartholomew, dating back to the 11th century, boasts a striking red facade and occasionally hosts carillon concerts. The church's white and russet hues, along with its twin towers topped with weather cocks, give it a picturesque appearance reminiscent of a model village. It houses exemplary Mosan art from the Meuse valley and features a baptismal font dating back to the 12th century.
You feel welcome when you enter this church. A small entrance fee is needed. But you get a hand-out in your language. I didn't read it because there is a lot to see. But make sure to watch the nice short video. The staff started it in Dutch, just for me! The baptismal font is very impressive. It is created with the lost wax method casting method. It is a very old method but it needs an enormous craftsmanship. The size , the sculpture and the openness proves that the make was a master in this craft. It is supposed to be from about 1107, but I personally think it could be much older. because it's very classical appearance.
Pieter V — Google review
This is a great example of how good restorative work can save ancient treasures. The beautiful church houses the famous bronze baptismal font. It is a rare medieval artefact that echoes its Roman past and predates the upcoming glory of the Renaissance. A short video is shown within the church documenting the church’s spectacular restoration and the story of the baptismal font.
Nikos P — Google review
Old, Romanesque church with German-looking exterior. The interior is a bit white-washed; stripped of it's ornaments and many colours. The main "star" of this church is undoubtably the enigmatic, exquisite 12th century copper font, a must-see if you are in Liege and have and affinity to church art and history.

Nice lady’s at the reception, they also played a video explaining the church history in English. Quite nice the restoration work they had here, it look amazing inside.

How they rebuilt it from literal dilapidating ruins into such a beauty - it still amazes me. The stained glass is stunning. What I liked the most was the epic story of christening the Jewish and the pagan world told on that huge medieval vessel. Worth the entry fee along with the short video.

As one of the busiest stations in the region, Liege-Guillemins serves as a gateway to high-speed trains, offering convenient access for travelers.
Well maintained train station with a colourful, huge roof that you would not stop looking at. The staff at the station office is very very friendly and helpful. We missed our train due to the delay of another train. The lady booked us another train route for the next day along with our to and from ticket to Leuven. Very much satisfied with the services provided.

A visually impressive train station, which looks incredible at night, almost like a spaceship. However, it is full of beggars, inside and out, which makes it feel very unsafe. There are also lots of homeless people sleeping inside the station building. I found some of the staff at the ticket office to be a little unfriendly, but overall, the train station served its purpose, with platforms which were easy to access, and trains which arrived and departed on time.

I visited Liege city two years ago during a trip from Maastricht. The distance was short, and the train ride was quick and comfortable. When I arrived, I was amazed by the station’s(Liege Guillemins) breathtaking architecture. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the sweeping glass and steel structure felt open, modern, and futuristic. It’s not just a train station it’s truly a piece of art. Everything was very clean, organized, and easy to navigate. It’s a must-visit for anyone who appreciates modern design. After exploring the station, I spent some time visiting the city of Liege. The city is full of history, culture, and lively streets. I walked around the old town, visited beautiful churches like the Liege Cathedral, and enjoyed the view from the top of the Montagne de Bueren, a long staircase with amazing city views. Liege has a friendly atmosphere with scenic spots along the Meuse River. Whether you love architecture, history, or just relaxing walks, Liege is definitely worth a visit.

I love the architecture of this station. The design just pops and it is very bright. Easy access to all platforms. The bus station is right out in front of the station. Few restaurants and food stands in the station. More outside of the station across the street. I really enjoyed my visit to this station. It is beautiful.

Don't try to use luggage storage at this station. There is a tiny room in a filthy corner without any signage, impossible to find without asking. There are around 20 lockers for the whole station. Despite almost all the large ones being empty, the machine stated them as "sold out". Even if you get one, they are ridiculously expensive.
Lucas K — Google review
Be aware: Departure platform (mostly) blocked. We arrived on platform 1 and had 9 minutes to get to platform 2. We almost missed our connection because the first three entrances to platform 2 were blocked with railing, or yellow barrier. We tried 1 set of stairs, 2 escalators (which were running, but blocked). We jumped over the barrier at 2nd escalators, because the train was about to leave. We passed another set of stairs that also was blocked. At least three passengers missed train. Luckily we only had two 23kg bags and our backpacks 😅

One of the most exciting places I' ve seen in my life. Frankly a paradise on earth for photographers and for architects. I suggest you to come 1 hour earlier than your train departure, because it is high danger to miss it as you'll admire and photograph it! Finally, we have to notice that it is one of the most central train stations in the world!
EPITOPOU M — Google review
Fabulous design, have been through here a few times on my way to Bruxelles, Kortrijk and south to the Ardennes. Nice shops on the bottom floor, 3 coffee shops, but missing a General store for travellers. Has a mezzanine level that is completely derelict, pity, would have been a great addition to the railway station and added something to it's usefulness.

St. Paul's Cathedral in Liege is a grand Gothic church with stunning stained-glass windows and a serene cloister. The cathedral houses remarkable statues by Jean Delcour, including one of St. Paul, as well as the prized Reliquary of Charles the Bold in its Treasury. Visitors can also explore the cozy green yard and gallery on the premises, and admire the masterpiece Lucifer statue.
St. Paul’s Cathedral in Liège is a beautiful place to visit. Walking through the main cathedral, with its stunning stained glass and peaceful atmosphere, is already a treat. What makes it even more special is the chance to explore the back rooms, which are open to visitors. For €8, you can check out the treasure rooms, where they’ve got some amazing artifacts like gold chalices and reliquaries. It’s a great way to dive into the history of the place. Definitely worth it if you’re in Liège!

This captivating, must-visit cathedral containing several gems worth seeing in person: - Masterwork neo-gothic pulpit with especially striking statue of satan by Willem Geefs - Colourful mix of renaissance and modern stained glas windows - Ornamental church ceiling decorated with sublime leaf motives (unique in many current day churches) - Opulent gold and silver saint-Lamberts shrine If you have some time and money left I recommend you visit the adjacent treasury which contains the dazzling reliquary bust of Saint-Lambert and reliquary of Charles the Bold.

One of the best cathedral. Cathedral's inside is such a beautiful art of architecture.

Beautiful church, but for some reason it's forbidden to drink a beer in public place cuz there was "NO" sign and almost got a ticket. Put the sign up that tourists don't get fines for "NO REASON" and I would advise all tourists to find out what public places in Belgium are restricted for drinking in public.

Beautiful cathedral. In the back they have a small gift shop. You can get audio guides or you can pay 8€ to go into the treasury but we thought it was too expensive so we didn't. There was a choir practicing while we were there which was a pleasant surprise.

Outremeuse, which means "beyond the Meuse," is an island and suburb in Liege that has been a cultural and economic center. It offers a range of accommodation options, from luxurious city-center hotels to budget hostels like Youth Hostel Georges Simenon. The neighborhood is known for its August 15th festival, charming narrow streets, and potales with the Virgin Mary.

(Translated by Google) This old district, an island surrounded by the Meuse, is rich in heritage with striking contrasts: narrow streets dating from the Middle Ages happily rub shoulders with wide avenues with remarkable Art Nouveau and Art Deco style facades, not forgetting the numerous street art works of all sizes! The famous writer Georges Simenon, a native of the place, was not mistaken in taking it as the setting for several of his novels. The statue of Tchantchès, the rebellious hero of Outremeuse, welcomes visitors at the entrance to this welcoming neighborhood (in which I live...). And if you like big crowds/parties, then you have to take part in the August 15th celebrations! Tip: discover rue Roture, and on the other side of rue Puits-en-Socks, the ruelles des Récollets, Beauregard, ... Parking: public (pay your ticket carefully, and don't risk using the spaces reserved for local residents, it's €80!) Une Gaufrette Saperlipopette is a delightful bakery in Liege that offers traditional Liege waffles made with local ingredients. These waffles are known for their doughier texture and are filled with cinnamon and chunky caramelized sugar chunks, making them the perfect comfort food on a rainy day in Belgium. The bakery also offers other delicious treats such as croissants, Cannelles de Bordeaux, and speculoos.
Favorite Liege waffle during my visit to Lieige. I got the vanilla and it was warmed up for me. I loved our crispy and caramelized the sugar was. A small amount of outdoor seating was available. The staff spoke English and was nice/friendly with us. She also gave us a sample of brioche to try too. There are a lot of pastry options, which we didn't try but definitely recommend the vanilla Liege waffle. Note that they tend to sell out. When we visited the first time around 5 pm, they were sold out of Liege waffles. We came at around 9 am on the second visit and they were fully stocked.

Cute little bakery offering ice cream and a small selection of desserts. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We visited in the late afternoon and unfortunately couldn't find any waffles left. We tried the ice cream instead—it was fine, though not remarkable. The chocolate flavor wasn’t dark enough for my taste, and while the mint-strawberry combination sounded exciting, it didn’t quite live up to the expectation. The white bread was decent. A sweet spot overall, but nothing too memorable.

No wonder this is the "go-to" place for a waffle in Liége. Big line but surprisingly speedy service, incredible taste and great attitude from the staff. Offering some free samples was definitely what set it apart though, lovely gesture from a 10/10 bakery!!

The shop has been recommended as one of the best shops to get Liege waffles and it's true. On the same street they have three little shops, one for the waffles and opposite you'll find one selling little cookies and biscuits. A bit further down they selling fries. I haven't tried the fries yet, but the waffles were heavenly. Chewy and buttery, it's a must to try. But even the biscuits did not disappoint. I am usually a bit wary of buying cookies, because I am not a fan of too sugary sweets, but those cookies were also made of good ingredients and lots of butter. I bought some for my friends too. There is always a bit of a queue, but the staff will come out with fresh cookies to try, which is a bonus point.

Place du Marché is a historic square at the heart of the city, rebuilt as a market square after being almost destroyed in 1691. It's surrounded by important landmarks and is known for its vibrant nightlife with shopping, dining, and drinking options. The square offers a cozy atmosphere with numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants. Despite ongoing construction work in June 2023, there are still pleasant spots to enjoy under the trees.
Place du Marché is absolutely magical during the Christmas season! The Christmas market here is cozy and inviting, with charming wooden stalls, sparkling lights, and a festive atmosphere that’s impossible to resist. You’ll find a variety of delicious treats, from traditional Belgian waffles and hot mulled wine to raclette and churros. The options are fantastic, catering to every taste. Around the square, there are countless bars where you can grab a drink and fully enjoy the holiday spirit. It’s the perfect place to celebrate the season and soak up the best of Liège’s festive charm!

Drove a long way to see the christmas festival in Liege as it is one of the best in Belgium apparently. Well, been there and must say, driving almost 2 hours to get there we were dissapointed. It is too busy with vehicles and busses travelling in the area. Also, too close to shopping centers taking away some of the magic. Went to the Maastricht christmas market afterwards and i must say, it was 10 times better and more magical. Will certainly go to the palace again but not the Christmas market.

This hilly area of the Citadel of Liege is hard work to get to, but you'll be rewarded with excellent views of the city below. The views from the top of Montagne de Bueren are excellent, but if you go further along to Belvédère Liège, the views are even clearer and better. There isn't much to see of the citadel and it's mostly ruins. You can still walk around and see a lot of what remains as much of it is still standing. The area has paved walking paths and is a pleasant area for a stroll.

Café Lequet, located near the River Meuse, is a popular old-school pub known for serving the best meatballs in Liege. The hearty dish consists of two meatballs made from a mix of pork and beef, smothered in a thick dark rabbit sauce made mainly from apples, pears, onions, and vinegar. Despite its delicious food, the café has gained a reputation for not being very accommodating to non-French speakers.

Cappuccino was very good. Had only one vegetarian option with cheese. Since I’m not a big fan of cheese, I asked the waitress if I can get only fries, she said yes. After a while she came back and said I must order a dish and only then I’ll get fries - seemed to me a bit strange but I ordered the dish with cheese balls and fries. The cheese balls were okay but the fries had a strong oily smell and taste probably not suitable for my taste buds. I’d probably only go there for coffee but not for food

Best “Boulet Liégeois” in town! Hands down the best boulet sauce Liégeois in town! I’ve often tried to perfect typical Belgian recipes such as “vol-au-vent”, “carbonnades flamandes”, “American“… and also the boulet Liégeois but have never been able to match or perfect their recipe! The meat is cooked to perfection, the sauce is divine, the fries match well with the dish as they don’t become soggy in the sauce… The atmosphere is typical, the service is friendly and efficient. It’s not somewhere I would go to every day but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic experience!

Café Lequet is a lively and popular spot, especially on weekends when it’s packed with regulars and new visitors alike. The constant flow of customers means tables turn over quickly; a good sign that the food is always fresh. The service is fast, polite, and efficient, though the high pace can sometimes affect quality. In my dish, roasted marrow bones, one piece was undercooked and still pink inside. Despite this, the overall vibe, tasty food, and energy of the place make it well worth a visit. Just be prepared for a busy atmosphere and the occasional slip in consistency.
Arash S — Google review
A cozy restaurant with good food, although our hostess was not so nice. We asked her if we can choose an other table, because the one she gave us was close the door and we were a group of 4. She refused and said she preferred to give it to a group of 5 people, and we were wondering the difference between a group of 4 and a group of 5. The service was so slow as well, we thought she was tired since she was the only one serving everybody that was there...

The location is perfect—right in the city center with a beautiful view of Place Saint-Lambert and the Opéra. The atmosphere strikes a great balance between cozy and lively, with a touch of historical charm. The service was top-notch. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming—everyone made us feel right at home. You can tell the staff really care about what they do. Now, the food… absolutely delicious. I had the famous Liège-style meatballs (boulets à la liégeoise), and they were hands down the best I’ve ever had. Rich, flavorful sauce, perfectly cooked meat, and generous portions. The menu also had a great mix of Belgian classics and other European favorites. Whether you’re visiting Liège or live nearby, I highly recommend this spot. It’s ideal for a relaxed dinner, a family meal, or even just a good glass of wine on the terrace. I’ll definitely be coming back!

✨ A truly unforgettable experience! ✨ From the moment we arrived at Au Point de Vue, everything was simply perfect. The food was beyond amazing – each bite was full of authentic flavor and clearly made with care and passion. I highly recommend the boulet à la Liégeoise – a local specialty that completely won me over. The service was flawless – attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming, which made us feel like special guests throughout. And the drinks? Incredible! The sangria was refreshing and vibrant, perfect for a summer day on their cozy terrace with a beautiful city view. This is not just a brasserie; it’s a place where great food, great people, and a great atmosphere come together effortlessly. Can’t wait to return. Highly recommended! 🌟

I made a reservation for dinner on the same day. We had rabbit meat and the local meatballs served with berry sauce. They are simply delicious .How I wish that the mussels are in season now. Service is good despite the crowd. There is no queue on a Saturday night. Highly recommended.

Sandwich shop
The sandwich shop Sandwicherie Pollux has delicious waffles and friendly service. The only downside is that it is more expensive to eat in than at the counter outside.
This is famous for Liège waffles. We had almost everything, and they were soooo nice! Especially, chocolate waffle (outside coated) was the best!
Hinata I — Google review
When in Liege you have to indulge in a Liege Waffle and so we stopped at 'Pollux Cafe', as where better place to have a Liege Waffle than sitting outside with a view of Liege Cathedral. The service was very slow at Pollux as they had one member of staff working and seemingly only one of their four waffle cookers in use despite people waiting for waffles. The waffles were tasty though when they arrived.
Martin R — Google review
We are not native French speakers, we walked in and it was difficult to read the menu so we chose one of the various sandwiches they had. When we tried to order the first thing that was said is that we can only pay with ‘belgium card’ or cash. Cashier was not proficient in English and afterwards we didn’t receive a ticket so we could not check if what we paid for was correct. The food was alright, the portion was good but that is what you paid for. There is only space to sit outside, of which was plenty and it’s located next to a bustling street with a view of one of the big cathedrals in the city.

Hmm I read from somewhere this place serves one of the best Liege waffles in Liege. I actually walked past a few but decided to give this a try instead based on the information gathered on internet. There were really quite a lot of people in the queue, and the waffles they served were really fresh and hot because there was only 1 girl making it and the shop was selling faster than it could make. Finally I ordered 1 and managed to try. I asked the staff to recommend me and she told me the best is to eat Liege waffles plain. I tried it and I found it not too bad but I felt it definitely wasn't the best in town. Quite enjoyed it but I have to say I had better ones around. It's a cafe with some seats and also selling food like sandwiches, but looks like more people are just ordering the waffles.

POLLUX - my waffle stop in Liege 🇧🇪 Sometimes it can also be a delicious ‘’Baguette Nordique’ with salmon or ‘Baguette Thon piquant’. Always fresh, always delicious. Pollux is very centrally located, just walking across Liège's St. Paul's Cathedral. There are also outdoor seating options around the shop for dine-in.
Şengül A — Google review
I always go there for the waffle, it’s really good and prepared right in front of you - right amount of sugar and butter. Usually there’s a line and no places to sit so just eat as you go!

Le Pot au Lait is a unique hang-out spot housed in a 19th-century building, offering an eclectic experience for visitors. The interior is adorned with glow-in-the-dark skeleton murals, stuffed boar heads, and psychedelic patterns, creating a surreal atmosphere reminiscent of a Tim Burton creation on acid. This pub attracts an alternative crowd and is popular among Erasmus students due to its affordability and late-night hours.
A really hopping place, large inside and out (couldn't believe how many people were sitting outside in the courtyard in 3 degree weather). Fantastical decor, mixed crowd. Highly recommend for a fun drink.

Le Pot au Lait in Liège feels like stepping into a bohemian jungle of murals, mismatched chairs, and easy laughter. The Citadel of Liège is a historic fortress dating back to the 13th century, nestled in a lush park that offers panoramic views of Liège. Situated in the Sainte-Walburge neighborhood, it once served as a crucial stronghold for the city until the late 19th century. Perched 111 meters above the Meuse valley, this citadel is part of the renowned Meuse Citadels along with Dinant, Huy, and Namur.
Nice monument at the top of the city. There are more walking paths further in; up or down. We chose down which led to "sentiers des coteaux" (Google says 'hillside trails') map on the ground. It showed the rivers and landmarks - so if you stand at the corner railing and view out at the city, that is what you are seeing. Pretty cool. From there, there are stairs down (yep, more stairs)...another 194 which lead to switchbacks. This was a wonderful and different route to get back down the mountain and into the city.
K E — Google review
I wouldn't say the view is worth the hike. It's good exercise at least. Also on the hill around the fortress you can find tents of homeless people.
Piotr — Google review
Here it is how it will go: "I can go up easily. It is ok, I can do it. Ok, maybe it is not so easy. What the hell, I did not know Belgium had mountain. Maybe I can stop here and roll down. Almost there. Yes, I did it" Other than losing a lung, it is really worth it. The view from top is amazing.
Marcello N — Google review
If you do not want to walk to town down the stairs of Van Bueren, continue up to the monument. Also a great view. If you follow the road along the citadel (on your left side) you will find paths through the forest down to the valley.

Liège-Guillemins Railway Station, located just 2 kilometers south of Liège's city center, is a breathtaking architectural gem crafted by the renowned Santiago Calatrava in 2009. This modern transportation hub captivates visitors with its sweeping curves and expansive glass canopy that floods the space with natural light. The station not only serves as a functional transit point but also as an artistic landmark, featuring vibrant colored panels on its roof that create a mesmerizing kaleidoscope effect throughout the day.
What a stunning piece of architecture!!!, The roof has also been added to with coloured panels making the whole station a rainbow/kaleidoscope of coloured light constantly changing with the angle of the sun. Easy to negotiate from platform to platform to exits. Added bonus on my visit was a Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition within the station.

The station is a sort of maze if you don't come there more often. It's very hard to find your way to the bus. Also the first bus just didn't arrive and next one was completely full. The design of this station is just not it. It's like to modern for the surroundings and the modernism is also a little bit ugly made.

Liège-Guillemins Railway 🚆 Station, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is acclaimed as one of the world's most impressive and innovative transportation hubs. Its modern architecture features vast open spaces, flowing organic lines, and a stunning steel and glass roof that bathes the station in natural light. The design not only offers aesthetic beauty but also enhances functionality with an intuitive layout and clear signage. Serving as a key hub for high-speed trains across Belgium and Europe, the station provides an efficient and comfortable experience for travelers. Overall, Liège-Guillemins stands out as an engineering marvel and a must-see destination, embodying the perfect blend of beauty and practicality. Only challenge, pedestrian can't pull their luggage at some places due to stonned footpaths like the streets. Go inside and you'll see this is a magnificent cathedral: a fantastic, intricately carved roof and wonderful stained glass windows. Look out for the white marble statue of Lucifer, hiding behind the pulpit! Liège Cathedral, also known as St. Paul's Cathedral, is a church with a history dating back to the 10th century. Although the current building only dates back to the 13th century. Like many cathedrals dating from this period, the church is a nice example of Gothic architecture. Some of the most outstanding features of the building include the highly ornate altarpiece of the abbey chapel, the classical Greek inspired Baroque sculpture of St John the Baptist, the ribbed vault of the nave, with its golden ribs and its vaults coated and painted with rinceaux common to French Gothic styles. The cathedral also has the usual collection of beautiful stained glass windows, some which have very contemporary designs that complement the more traditional ones.

Everything as expected, we ordered the lamb chops well done and the steak medium grilled and it was exactly like that cooked! For a brasserie restaurant, two top quality meals. Tarek assisted us with the menu, special menus of the day option and just having a pleasant chat! What I have seen in the restaurant and also read here in the review is that he is the most social guy at the place. Friendly guy, it's really true, who wants to give you a really a pleasant evening! Something to learn / keep in mind by other waitors (also waitors who work in other restaurants). We finished our evening here in La Brasserie the evening with two delicious ice creams (mokka/coffee recommended). Specialty to mention: home made Belgian fries and my girl friend had artichokes and aspergus with her lamb chops meal!

Nestled in the heart of Liège, St James's Church stands as a testament to medieval architecture and history. Founded in 1015 by Bishop Baldrick II, this stunning church was originally part of a Benedictine abbey and later became one of the city's seven collegiate churches after St Peter's Church was demolished. With its striking flamboyant Gothic style, visitors can admire exquisite statues crafted by Jean del Cour and explore the intricate 14th-century misericords that adorn its interior.
My visit to Église Saint-Jacques de Liège was a highlight of my trip. The church's Gothic design is both majestic and captivating, with its soaring arches and detailed stone carvings. The stained glass windows are breathtaking, casting a beautiful array of colors throughout the interior. I was particularly moved by the peaceful ambiance and the sense of history that permeates every corner of the church. The blend of art, history, and spirituality makes it a must-see when in Liège. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the cultural and architectural richness of the city.

Interesting space, and cheap with online tickets purchase. Had fun walking around but couldn't understand any of the info (my fault for not speaking french). Recommend for people interested in seeing an interesting space/wanting to take some photos

Amazing how this historic bathhouse has been changed to a cultural centre and exhibition space. A lot of historic details to be seen!

The building is probably the most interesting when you visit this Cité Miroir designed by architect Georges Dedoyard in 1936. Due to the war the building was completed in 1942 and existed until 2000 as swimming pool la Sauvenière . Built in the modernist style, inspired by the Bauhaus movement in Germany, it resembels a passenger ship with the majestic main hall of 80m long and 10m high. When I was there I was the only visitor so everything was quiet

I didn't really understand the concept when I was there. We visited a temporary exposition. It was just some pictures and a story. It was interesting, but there was very few photos so there was not much to see. However, the building itself was beautiful. It was perfect for taking pictures as everything was white and the lighting was perfect from all angles. It is a completely renovated pool, although you could only go into the children's pool. There were some permanent expos we didn't see, these are bigger allegedly. I would recommend this place for a short trip. I wouldn't specifically recommend this for families. The temporary expo I would recommend for photography.

We went to Vaudrée II, but it was closed due to renovation. So was the bottle shop. So we walked to Vaudrée I instead. We arrived in the lunch rush, so it was busy but the waiters were very friendly and helpful. We came to taste beers because we heard they have a large beer menu. The beer list is large (50-60) but not very exciting, mostly typical blondes and ambre and only a few more exciting types as geuze, kriek and lambic. Some of these quite boring lindemans. The flemish red Duchess of Bourgogne was an exciting taste of a very special and rare type.

The Church of St. Denis is a beautiful and historic church located in Liege, Belgium. Situated in the Outremeuse district, it offers a welcoming atmosphere and impressive architecture. The church dates back to 990 and boasts stunning interior surprises. While not as grand as some other buildings in the area, it holds its own charm and tranquility inside.
Beautiful church. I personally prefer this to the cathedral. It is very quiet and peaceful inside. It is amazing how old the building is as it was consecrated in 990.

(Translated by Google) The Church of St. Dionysius is part of the famous "Seven Collegiate Churches" of Liège and thus a significant witness to the religious and urban history of the city. Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages, and the city's long history can still be felt today within its walls. The simple Romanesque architecture is both powerful and inviting, while the interior preserves valuable historical elements and works of art. St. Dionysius stands somewhat off the main tourist routes, offering the opportunity to experience Liège's sacred heritage in a peaceful, authentic atmosphere. A wonderful place for history buffs and lovers of medieval churches. Die schlichte romanische Architektur wirkt zugleich kraftvoll und einladend, während im Inneren wertvolle historische Elemente und Kunstwerke erhalten geblieben sind. The Hotel Neuvice is a historic hotel located on a narrow, shop-lined street in the heart of Liege. The hotel has a characterful alleyway and service is friendly. Rooms have an elegant design quality while also being comfortable and economical.
Very nice boutique hotel near Les Galeries St. Lambert shopping mall along with many restaurants and short walks to attractions like the Montagne de Bueren, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Meuse River. The property is quaint and well-maintained. The staff is courteous, the rooms are fair sized for a European hotel, there’s an espresso machine in the rooms and the hotel has good WiFi. I arrived at 1145am and got to check in early which was also a pleasant surprise. The hotel is a very good value with a great location and the rooms should be ample in space for solo, business or couples traveling. There wasn’t much street noise either. Depending on who is working the front desk there might be a bit of a French-English language barrier but nothing that the ability to say some basic things in French and the google translate app can’t help you figure out.

Modern update to historic building on a quiet cobblestone lane in Old Town Liege. Room (#7) served two people. Compact. Didn’t do breakfast. The Museum of Public Transport in Wallonia, established in 1985, offers a fascinating display of public transportation vehicles spanning different historical periods. Visitors can explore an array of exhibits including buses, electric trams, trolleybuses, steam locomotives, and horse-drawn carriages. Despite its modest size, the museum provides English-speaking staff and audio guides for an enriching experience.
A great little transport museum telling the history of trams and trolley busses from first use back in the 1800's to today. All information is in french but you can download their app to get an audio guide in different languages, for me that was English. The staff were fantastic and also spoke to me in English and explained everything very well. Only €6 to get in and very well worth it. Highly recommended.

We went here on the first Sunday of the month since it's free entrance then. I would recommend it for younger kids, but my 6 year old enjoyed it very much. She liked seeing the history of the transport in Liège and it was very interesting for us adults too. The coolest part is that you can enter some of the old trams, buses and other transportation means and play inside s little bit. We quite liked it as a family outing and would recommend it to spend around 2 hours.

Unsuspectedly entertaining museum for the kids, especially those interested to participate in pretend play. We visited this museum due to our boy’s interest in the various modes of transportation, which you can easily find here. From horse-drawn carriages to trams to buses… There was even a corner dedicated to art and craft for the little ones. The museum offered colourful papers, pens and scissors for the children to create and colour their paper 3D train. Yes, the information was only in French but with Google Translate, that language barrier was easily overcome. We had visited on a particularly warm Summer’s day and the staff were generous in offering free cold water to us. Super! An educational playground for the children (and adults) truly!

Very good find, and well worth the trip for those interested in 20th century public transport. A lot of the old trams and buses were available to get on and have a look round.
Liam S — Google review
Very interesting museum about the history of public transport in the region. All the information is in french only but you can definitely enjoy it anyway

Le Forum in Liege is a magnificent cultural center located in the heart of the city. It hosts a diverse range of events including theater, concerts, operas, and ballet. The large hall boasts excellent acoustics and creates a lively atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. This nearly 100-year-old theater is not only historically beautiful but also serves as an exceptional concert venue. Despite its narrow space for taller individuals, it offers a magical setting with top-notch acoustics for enjoying performances.
Concert Salvatore Adamo , great setting. Friendly staff, decor is absolutly wonderfull
Nicole V — Google review
Nice and beautiful building. We went to Le Forum to enjoy Lord of the Rings Music, turns out it’s actually some sort of fraudulent company that is being sued by Howard Shore himself? That also explains why the musical pieces were so short (copyright laws). The amount of false notes and the embarrassing AI illustrations used on the projector made us laugh a lot so the money wasn’t entirely lost. Weirdly most of the public seemed to enjoy it… Conclusion: the Forum should be careful in its selection of artists. This was absolutely embarrassing :-/

beautiful venue! the sound was decent, have heard better but also worse. Only negative point is that the view from the gallery is kind of obstructed, due to that i couldn’t see 30% of the stage. The leg room was also very minimal, luckily I’m not that tall but if you’re taller than 185cm u might have some troubles.
Isa W — Google review
Great venue...the old grandeur but so pure and splendid. Go there when Uhoda Jazz takes place.
Martin C — Google review
Very nice theatre with clean bathrooms. Bar has quite limited choice but very reasonable prices.
Liwia D — Google review
Efficient management of the queues and faultless sound quality.
Stephen R — Google review
Such a beautiful historic concert hall. However, it's quite narrow for the legs of taller people.
Moritz M — Google review
Absolute brilliant venue, so close and intimate!!!

History Museums
Nestled in the heart of Liège, the Trésor de Liège is a captivating museum that showcases the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the city. Visitors can explore an impressive array of exhibits, including sculptures, textiles, manuscripts, and religious artifacts that tell stories from various historical periods. While some items may lack detailed descriptions and audio guides might not cover everything extensively, the collection itself is undeniably remarkable.
I was surprised how large this exhibit is. For the price of 8Eur you will be able to venture inside the cathedral and visit even the upper levels. Fully packed with historical relics.
NightDancer G — Google review
Great treasure but not so well organised in terms of information. Some items aren't even described. Audioguide also not covering most of items. Having those ones out it's time to say they the collection is really impressive. Having on mind that the tickets also includes archeological site of old cathedral the entry fee is also reasonable.
BARTOSZ R — Google review
Very nice collection, strongly advise to visit if you are interested in history and art
Nona V — Google review
Very nice collection of precious old church treasures.
Koen B — Google review
So it was ok. The presentation of items is not museum status. The best treasures are at the end on the top floor. There is also a unique piece there. It’s huge! Besides the ending. The other treasures are typical. Also, There’s a nice video explaining how the raw materials were sourced. However, I didn’t get the feeling that the treasures were the best I’ve seen. Maastricht’s & Aachen’s treasures troves are considerably better. These places are 30 minutes away. However, the treasure here was ok.
Jonathan T — Google review
An impressive collection of Catholic history-related pieces. Paints, sculptures, decorative arts are enlightened in the old Covent. The escape game organized in the museum is very funny, from 10yo to 45.
Julien G — Google review
Really nice museum with some incredible artefacts. Definitely worth the visit!

City park
Nature & Parks
Park
Parc d'Avroy is a spacious urban park located in the city center, providing a peaceful retreat from the lively urban atmosphere. It features amenities such as a playground, a charming pond, and ample green areas ideal for picnics and unwinding. The park's proximity to the river makes it an excellent choice for cycling enthusiasts, while visitors can also indulge in cooling off with ice cream during hot summer days.
Just a nice park by the river... you can choose it for cycling... usually there is an ice-cream machine, just perfect for the hot summer!!!
Soodeh M — Google review
Right now, with the city under construction for the tram, and with such bad weather, the park isn’t really a comfortable place to be, and you’ll get your shoes very muddy trying to walk through it, but there are still some nice spots to explore and it must be a nice park when the weather is good and once the constructions are done.
André M — Google review
Although the path is walkable, it is very muddy and dirty. The park doesn’t look like pictures at all. The nature side is still great as there are many trees and goose along the park, but the aesthetic is nowhere to be found

Small nice park in Liège.

Fantastic family fun day at the Liege October funfair! Kids and adults loved it.
John B — Google review
One upon a time it was a prestigious, beautiful parc. Unfortunately the present situation is deplorable. Holes because of bad maintenance, an ugly new pavilion to protect another ugly pavilion inside, filthy, bad maintenance of the unsafe playground, the park is not clean at all, noises of busses and cars everywhere, the monuments are in bad shape, the belgian flag is in bad shape, the benches are not clean nor maintained, the pond's water is unhealthy, the borders are not maintained, bycicles, steps, mopeds,... they all use the park's roads with dangerous situations as consequence. And the police... they walk by, because .... I don't know
