The Musée de la Coutellerie, also known as the Cutlery Museum, is a must-visit in Thiers. It showcases a collection of 700 knives and blades crafted in the city over five centuries. Visitors can explore workshops and demonstrations highlighting how Thiers produces over 70% of France's cutlery. The museum offers an informative experience, including a short film, exhibits of locally made knives, and a captivating sound and light show on blade forging.
Great experience and very informative for both kids and adults. We learnt a lot about traditional knife-making and evolution over the centuries. The museum is split in two parts and you can enjoy demonstrations of different techniques. Some of the pieces are unique. The tour was guided and we had lots of fun. The guide tried to connect and make the experience interesting.

This is only for the French speakers. This is made up of 2 buildings. One speaks about history of the region, city and its evolution. 2nd building talks about how the knives were made in earlier days ascompared to today. Includes a light & sound show.
Two part visit starting with a short film and then various rooms exhibiting knives made in Thiers. This is followed by part II which is held in a different location (about 40 metres away) where there is a sound and light show of forging blades and concludes with a demonstration and explanation of the shaping, sharpening and polishing of blades. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining and informative visit.
Museum in 3 different places. Most interesting was the workshop and people actually demonstrated techniques. Didn't go to see the outside section 3km away as we moved on, but fascinating.

The second building (No. 58) has workshop demonstrations of cutlery-making skills and more galleries displaying the range of utensils, from professional knives (surgical utensils, gardeners’ knives, marine knives, vintners’ knives, electricians’ knives) to scissors & gadget knives (with lighters, rulers, thermometers & pens incorporated), all made in Thiers over the years.
