Beaches
Playa Puerto Viejo, also known as Chino Beach, is a small yet charming soft sand beach located in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The beach is lined with palm trees and features natural rock pools that break the waves, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and safe for kids to play. While not suitable for swimming due to shallow waters, the beach offers picturesque views and opportunities for exploration.
Go for the black sand beach if for no other reason. It is absolutely incredible. It glistens as if there are micro diamonds and minerals in it. I swear you can feel the energy enter your body from the sand through your feet. I loved fresh fruit, the healthy green drinks and walking the center of town on a random night during New Year’s Eve.
Sophia P — Google review
It was really nice. The beach was clean, and the waves were large. Very blue water. The little town had all sorts of cute shops and funky stalls with artists, jewelry makers and restaurants. Love Puerto Viejo!
Michelle J — Google review
Maybe on weekdays it's nice if there's no people. On weekends it's crowded and there's not much space, the beach itself is super small and narrow. Only if you go to the woods there will be less people. Also waves don't allow to swim much. I probably won't return here.
A A — Google review
The vibe in Puerto Viejo is so chill anf the black sand beach runs for miles. Puerto Viejo is for the lazy-day adventurer and for those that want to spend the whole day at th beach doing nothing. Calmer water, shallow beaches (in spots) for the little ones. You might come across the occasional coconut salesperson wondering by too. I loved it here so much that I came back after a visit to Limon in between. Rented a bike for the week (18,000 colones / $35.57) and rode down to Cocles, did my store shopping, or just moseyed along. See my other reviews on local spots to frequent.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a small town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It's very popular with tourists. There are more beautiful places close to this town such as Punta Uva, Gandoca Manzanillo Refuge and National Park Cahuita. I think this is a party town just like Jaco Beach on the Pacific coast of the country. This is nice as well.
Lejla V — Google review
Nice beach for snorkeling around the coral reef. More of a place to bathe rather than swim because of the reef.
Mr. H — Google review
Water was lovely and warm. Options to hire Mopeds, bikes , quad bikes. Ideal end of a tour
Mary L — Google review
Serene and beautiful, if you walk a bit futher into the woods you'll discover less attended places with practically no people around.

Located in the heart of Puerto Viejo, Choco offers a unique experience of pairing wine, beer, or rum with chocolates sourced from the best cacao farms in the area. The region is renowned for its cacao production, and visitors can join tours to learn about the process of growing cacao, drying the beans, and making chocolate. The interior is small but charmingly decorated and always bustling with people enjoying drinks and tastings. The staff is friendly and everything offered is locally sourced.
This was such a fun, educational and tasty experience! We did the rum and chocolate experience and we would highly Recommend this. The only souvenirs we took from this trip were chocolate bars from this place. Highly Recommend!
Angie K — Google review
We did a wine pairing as well as a rum pairing and both were deliciously paired with local chocolates. Fun date night idea.
Christie E — Google review
Amazing cozy store and cafe to have an awesome tasting opportunity of local chocolates. They offer a few different pairing options, a selection of different chocolates that can be paired with the option of coffee, beer, rum, or just a degustation platter. The people working there are awesome and will explain each product and what to expect from it, as well as tips on how to make it pair even better. Definitely recommend this place to have some local chocolate tasting from the whole region. Also you will have a chance to buy any of your favorite chocolates and also book a tour to some of the plantations which offer this service.

Who would ever think to pair Rum & Chocolate ? When In Costa Rica and you’re looking for something different to do this experience is the one ! You can choose the rum & chocolate tasting or the rum & wine . We chose rum & chocolate . This experience is super affordable you’re looking at $30 per person for the rum & chocolate and the price is slightly cheaper for the wine & rum pairing tasting . They start off by explaining the process presented to you is 3 different aged rums but the same brand , & they pair each one with a chocolate . This chocolate literally melted in your mouth and I definitely had a favorite. When over you have the option to purchase any thing you tried along with others inside the store . Do your self a favor and add this experience if you’re a local in Costa Rica or just visiting .
Shionda F — Google review
Amazing place right in the middle of Puerto Viejo! The place is a local chocolate store that sells in a fare trade way amazing cacao productos from the Talamanca region. They have so many options with so many flavors that it’s difficult to decide what to get. The place is beautiful, designed by one of the owners that happens to be a graphic designer! They also sell coffee, local beers and rums, and they match this drinks with the perfect chocolate. Be sure to get the tasting chocolate and coffee! Superb options. The service is incredible and the atmosphere is delicious. Thanks you!
Andrés R — Google review
Wonderful experience of chocolate tasting. But wait, there’s more! You can also pair it with wine, craft beer and amazingly good rum, made in CR. Highly recommend for a chill one hour to hang while the sun is up🌞
Alexa Z — Google review
So cool! We love this concept. We have been twice already. Love the Azteca chocolate and the vegan hot chocolate. We have tried several chocolate bars and they've all been delicious. Definitely gonna go back for the pairings favorite bar so far: chocorart

Excellent and fun experience!! We booked our beer tasting with airbnb and they welcomed us very friendly. They even gave us a costa rican wine tasting and halved a cacao fruit for us to try fresh and raw. Really amazing experience to do in Puerto Viejo, whether it’s raining or not. All chocolate is also vegan and local from the farms nearby!

Supermarket
MegaSuper is a local supermarket where you can find all your essential items at great prices. To access discounts, you need to register for a "tarjeta plata" by providing your passport. This allows you to enjoy advertised prices and save money on your purchases. The store offers a decent selection of products and is known for having some of the best prices in town if you have the "tarjeta plata". The staff is friendly, and the market is clean and well-organized.
Best prices in Puerto Viejo. You can find random special sale items like dog leashes and getting the club discount is well worth the time to sign up.
Christina # — Google review
It's good to buy things here and the staff is mostly friendly but just do note that the "fresh" meat is basically rotting under the counter. If you can't eat it with a strong smell on it, then best to avoid it.
Jonathan K — Google review
A great market. Has a little bit of everything. Certainly less expensive to stock up on a few things here then buy at restaurants like soda, water and beer. Bought a few simple things for snacks. Staff was all very friendly and the market is clean and tidy.
Charene R — Google review
Good supermarket. Be aware - 1. They have different price to those who is not a club members 2. They will put products in a wrong location with lower price and will charge you the higher price at the cashier.
Boaz M — Google review
First impression was good but then I had to wait in line for half an hour to pay for one product. Cannot understand why they have so much staff walking around but refuse to open another cassier, even with a line to the back of the store.
Astrid R — Google review
I was able to find all what my friends and I needed at a very affordable price. On top of being on a perfect spot, the personnel were really attentive and helped us a lot. They showed us why the best of Limon is its people.
Alexander L — Google review
You should take your passport and they will register you as having a "tarjeta plata", which then entitiles you to all the discounts posted. From then on, you just give your passport number. Otherwise you do not get the advertised price and you'll pay more. Decent selection and probably best prices in puerto if you have the "tarjeta plata".
Behrad G — Google review
Their fruit and veggies are super cheap and they have heaps of drinks and dry goods! Also the staff were lovely, once when i forgot to get a basket a staff member brought me one and also when i forgot my change the lady made sure i got it.

If you're looking for an exciting surfing experience, head to Playa Cocles on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. This popular surf spot offers plenty of waves, making it a favorite among surfers. Keep an eye out for red flags signaling unsafe swimming conditions when the waves get big. While the beach can get crowded at times, it's still a fun place to catch some quick rides and enjoy easy paddling.
Playa Cocles. Plenty of surf. Quick rides, no barrels. Easy paddle. The beach is actually more fun. Can be a zoo at times. Oh, and that's not fog, it's funny smoke. Be advised.

Restaurante Lidia's Place is a must-visit for an authentic Costa Rican dining experience. Located in the local neighborhood of Puerto Viejo, this restaurant offers delicious Caribbean flavors, making their casado one of the tastiest in Costa Rica. Known for their exceptional rice and beans, Lidia's Place also serves fresh seafood like lobster and red snapper at great value. The friendly staff, including the welcoming owner Lidia herself, adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
We visited here for dinner after hearing such amazing reviews about the food and we’re definitely impressed. I ordered the shrimps ‘house style’ and my boyfriend ordered the oxtail. The portions were so generous and the rice and beans were the best we’ve had so far! Authentic menu in a lovely restaurant off the main road - nice and quiet with good on road parking away from the busy streets of Puerto Viejo. Would definitely recommend if you want authentic Caribbean food!
Matilda R — Google review
After a long ride from San Jose, we were craving a delicious late lunch in Costa Rica. On our first day in Puerto Viejo, we stumbled upon this hidden gem! It was just a short stroll from our hotel, making it super convenient. The service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely fantastic. We were served generous portions of red snapper with a zesty sauce, beans and rice, and fried plantains.
Alan P — Google review
Lidia's place is very nice. They have very nice staff, especially Orlando. Great guy and nice vibe! I had such great food here. And most of all, Lidia made us feel special by coming out to greet us whilst we were eating. She also told us that we are very welcome to call her mom or auntie. She quoted, "If there is no love, there is no flavor." We were honored to meet her and felt special. The fish I had was a 500-gram red snapper freshly caught from the sea, and it was super good. Pura Vida!
Emmanuel T — Google review
We had an amazing dinner at Lidia's. We had the whole red snapper with green curry sauce and it was incredible - very flavorful but delicate and the sauce did not overwhelm the fish. We also had a slice of chocolate cake which was unlike anything I've had and surpassed all expectations. Lidia came out and chatted with us twice during the meal which was very kind and welcoming. A great experience! You won't find food like this anywhere else in Puerto Viejo.
Leah C — Google review
Seguramente the best place to eat in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca !!! ❤️❤️❤️ Everything is home MADE with Love and authenticity. The service was done with warm heart from the moment we passed the door. 🙏🏻The place is cosy and lovely as such as the owner, Lidia. ☀️ She made us feel home and welcome. The food is generous and delightful just like her. I highly recommend the traditional Caribbean juices “Sorrell”🍹 and ask for the home made banana vinegar & chile 🌶. There are vegetarian 🌱 options

Really really good! I had the coconut curry shrimps with patacones, rice and beans, and salad and it was amazing. Worth all the good reviews! You can tell it is good made from scratch, and made with love. 🥰 Also, the spicy sauce is really good :)

Tasty Waves Cantina is a laid-back bar and beachfront lounge that perfectly captures the classic surfer vibe of the Caribbean. Situated just across from the famous surf spot at Cocles, this cantina offers a relaxed atmosphere with a pool table and plenty of tacos and tequila shots. Whether it's rainy or perfect for surfing, Tasty Waves Cantina embraces the beauty of its location in Puerto Viejo de Limon.
Tasty Waves was an excellent find on our recent trip. The servers were very nice, the atmosphere was great and the food was amazing! We went a couple times during our trip because it was so good. It was also a great spot to catch some howler monkeys up in the trees.
Cara K — Google review
This place you can’t beat! We went for their taco Tuesday 3x3000 colones. It came out super hot and the flavor was good too. The French fries couldn’t be beat though - they were like hand cut made in house fries. I know you’re in Costa Rica but you can’t beat a hand cut fry. ALSO… $1 shots! Yep, the server said they have been doing that for 60 years. Not sure how true that was haha but still we had a few. We’re coming back for Trivia Night later this week. Must stop!!
Giovani B — Google review
Oh, this place is so, so great! The food is simply fantastic and the servers are so nice! ❤️
Sarolta N — Google review
Great place to be 🤙 Food was delicious and fresh! The tacos and burgers are great and the price was fair 👌 The stuff was amazing, thx for the great service✌️ Absolutely a nice location and Ambiente!
Det D — Google review
The restaurant is attached to a hostel and gives a super homey vibe. The desk receptionist connected to the hostel is friendly. There is also parking available. The food was not quite“tasty” as expected. It was a bit bland. Juxtaposed to the price it was bit disappointing. All the servers were friendly except the Caucasian American guy. I’m love dogs, but the resident dog(s) who roamed around the tables had an overwhelming off putting odour. I wasn’t able to finish my meal. I like that they are dog friendly for sure but some persons may not be open to having dogs while eating. The music was great, the space has a simple but artsy vibe. They also have television entertainment. Family friendly.
Island E — Google review
We went twice for taco Tuesday during our stay. Such a good deal! And the service is excellent. Very attentive. When they had a delay with our dessert, they gave us free drinks 😊
Stella — Google review
Unfortunately I had a really bad experience- I've eaten here numerous times, specifically the chicken tacos. They decided to make a different chicken taco and not inform me. It was terrible, inedible and totally disgusting. i came home and got sick from it. It was only when I repeatedly mentioned it was different that I was told it was from the previous day- that they were trying to finish the food and not waste and that it was a different recipe. it was obvious I couldn't eat it so I left it unfinished and ordered fries as I was still hungry.... when i received the bill it included the terrible tacos!!! no customer wants to eat day old food. No customer wants to consistently order something, be given something different (day old), be made sick, be charged on top of it. Sorry but it was such a terrible experience!!! ***i do want to mention the service and atmosphere is nice but I was extremely unhappy and upset to be sick.

This place is an absolute must. 15/10! I highly recommend checking out this restaurant. I ordered the French toast with eggs as well as a smoothie. The waiter was absolutely amazing. He was sooooo acknowledgeable and provided different recommendations. He was also very patience with me as I attempted to order in Spanish. He provided corrections and was super encouraging. The food arrived very quickly and everything was absolutely phenomenal! I would definitely return.

Everything we had was fresh and flavorful! The prices were super affordable, especially for how much food you get and in comparison to similar breakfast spots in the area. The staff was very friendly. The vegan gallo pinto plate came with coffee. It was a nice compliment to the dish. The french toast with fruit was so so good and fun to share. We wanted to try the bagels; they were out this time, but the breads they used were so tasty and well-made. I would come here every morning for breakfast or brunch if I could! Highly recommend.

Could not recommend this place enough. We showed up right at closing and so we were going to take our food to go, but the owners were so welcoming and said “please sit and enjoy” so we did. Gelateria Deelite Italian Gelato is a charming ice cream shop located near the long-distance bus pick-up point, making it a convenient stop for travelers waiting for their buses. While they offer breakfast and other desserts, their main draw is their delicious homemade ice cream, including vegan and local fruit flavors. The tropical gelato is particularly recommended, and visitors can enjoy their treats in the pleasant outdoor seating area.
We have really enjoyed visiting Deelite. I wish they would be more understanding about children wanting to taste gelato...kids will be kids and they have been stressed about not getting to taste flavors before they decide. Otherwise, we really love their maracuyá, guanabana, and cacao. I highly recommend this place.
Antonio M — Google review
Gelato is great but I unfortunately cannot get past the rudest customer service experience I’ve ever had in Costa Rica. The man was extremely rude to the point where it doesn’t matter how good the ice cream is I won’t go back. He was very nice to his hipster friends in front of me in line and very nice to the little boy behind me in line and just made me feel like a very unwelcome tourist. I was really excited for the ice cream and actually even own my own ice cream company and another business in a tourist area in NYC and pride myself on customer service in my stores even to those who are not local, everyone should feel welcome and not talked to like a piece of garbage.

Very nice place to get a dessert 😋 Would definitely recommend. They have tables outside and it’s located in a town centre. Good view, tasty ice cream. Their prices are very fair, for 2 rolls if different tastes you pay less than 4$.

Nice clean place with the best burrito I've had in Costa Rica. We sat an an outside table which was a perfect location for wave and people watching. The menu selection was out of this world. I absolutely loved eating at this Soda. It’s definitely one of my favorite ones during the trip and I wish we could have gone back but we ran out of time. The coconut curry shrimp were so good and I enjoyed the hot sauce they had on the table. Great food.

This was the best food I had while on the Caribbean side. Red snapper and the rice and beans were really excellent. Very flavorful will seasoned

This by far the best restaurant I’ve been to in Costa Rica. The chef is cooking on a pedigree that so far I haven’t seen comparable to anything in the city. I cant recommend this place enough. The red snapper with the curry sauce is a must have.
Measu B — Google review
Ok, I truly don't want to share this place with anyone, but it does need a shout-out. I love Snapper, and I've got to say, "They make the best!!" It's in the sauce. Make sure you pay this spot a visit.

This is a wonderful little spot in Limon with a Caribbean flavor menu my friend got POLLO SALSA CARIBBEA with rice and beans and a HIEL drink. I got CARNE EN SALSA CARIBBEA with fries. After tasting her rice & beans I had to order some to go with my Carne. I don't usually eat rice but this rice and beans was so delicious. After tasting her HIEL drink I had to order me one as well. This drink is outstanding especially if you like ginger.

Excellent and very kind service.Lovely waitress. Clean and spacious toillets. It is just beside the road so the view is.. well you can imagine. On tje other hand, very cute wood tables. Meals are decent size and very tasty. Prices are very acceptable. 10% is added on the stated price, as service, as they usually do. They accept credit cards. I enjoyed pork in carrebean sauce (39000 crc) and curry shrimps (56000 crc). Would recommend both! Shrimps were amazing 😊 overall I really enjoyed this place and would love to come back.

The shrimp rice was delicious, but the other dishes (shrimps with garlic sauce and meat in carribean sauce) was not as good as we have eaten at other places in town.

Wow! The typical columbian breakfast is sooo good!! Very nice staff, delicious food, and right on the beach. We were walking along a lush beach path and just happened to stumble on this spot’s cute entrance, and everything here has been pura vida! Highly recommend

This is one of the most flavorful meals I've ever had. The spices were wonderful and the veggies were cooked perfectly. I was surprised by the huge portion because the pictures make it look smaller. The sitting area and friendly service make the experience even better. I'll be back in two days!

Tasty, tasty arepas for breakfast or dinner. Breakfast típico with an arepa is great. The veggie plate is delicious. The little garden area by the beach is delightful to dine in, as well.

Incredible aurhentic arepas and simply the best food that we have had in the PV area. Monkeys on the beach in the mornings. Isabella the owner was very sweet and even gave us a cooking lesson. Highly recommended!

Soda Mirna is a popular spot in PV and Costa Rica, known for its quaint atmosphere and frequented by locals. The restaurant offers Bistec Patacones, rice and beans with a fresh coconut flavor, and delicious fruit drinks like flor de Jamaica and hiel. While the food is praised for its taste, some visitors have noted issues with cleanliness and unfriendly service. Despite this, many appreciate the affordable prices and the option to pay by credit card.
The food was delicious. Gordon Ramsay had eaten here when they were at their previous location and they said he told them the "Food was amazing". I agree! Seemed to be family run and was a chill vibe.

Had a beautiful dinner here after the Limon parade last weekend. I got the rice and peas with chicken. Chicken was very tender fell right off the bone and the sauce it was made it was perfect. My partner got the coconut shrimp dish which was also flavored really nicely. Reminded me a lot of my Jamaican grandmother’s home cooking. Will definitely go back and so highly recommend!

Natalia Q — Google review
I had my first dinner in Puerto Viejo at Soda Mirna on a quieter night, and it was a great choice. The chicken with Caribbean style rice and beans cooked in coconut milk was very tasty, and the folks working the restaurant that night established a kind and welcoming vibe. I was only in town for a few days, so I only ate once at each restaurant that I visited. But I hope to return to Soda Mirna one day and try more of their menu!

Caribbean restaurant
Soda el Ranchito is a local gem located in downtown Puerto Viejo, serving up a family recipe of traditional Caribbean dishes that have been passed down for generations. Despite its limited menu, the food is delicious and well-prepared. The restaurant's location along the jungle trail between Puerto Viejo and Playa Cocles offers unobstructed views of Salsa Brava and the surfers riding its extreme waves.
Best food in Puerto Viejo! It’s a hidden, simple, unassuming spot right on the beach with delicious local Caribbean food. You can miss it if you are walking in a hurry, so I’m so glad a friend recommended it to me! It is right between the Salsa Brava restaurant and Amimodo restaurant, but you have to walk on the beach rather than the street side to find it. My fav dishes here are their specialty Rondon soup, Caribbean Chicken plate and patacones. They have the best patacones I’ve tasted in Costa Rica hands down! The juice was also freshly prepared and very delicious. Their location right on the beach is amazing!! You can watch the waves and surfers as you dine. 5 stars!! Highly recommend this gem of a soda - El Ranchito!!
Khadeejah C — Google review
I don’t even need to go to other restaurants to know that this is my favorite place to eat in puerto Viejo. I prefer sodas to restaurants and this soda is the best!! It’s location is very cool, hidden back on the beach amongst the trees and only accessible via beach. There are only a few tables, so it can’t get too crowded. The vibe is very low key and easy. The menu is petite but delicious. We had chicken rice & beans, rondon, coconut water, and lemonade. All perfect. The wait staff was also very kind and calm and friendly. Absolute best!
Heather N — Google review
The best rondon in puerto viejo. We went 3 different times on our trip. The rice and beans with shrimp or chicken was also amazing. Quaint, local vibes on the beach. You have to walk by the Salsa Brava bar along the beach to get there. Sometimes there’s even a little bonfire going. This place is A MUST!!! Bring cash.
Margo W — Google review
Excellent place. I can’t believe this Soda does not have more reviews. May be based on its location, but that’s part of what makes it so special. It is located along the jungle trail between Puerto Viejo and Playa Cocles, just past the Salsa Brava restaurant. It has outdoor seating that has unobstructed views of Salsa Brava, and the surfers who dare to ride Salsa Brava’s extreme waves. As for the food; it has a limited menu but does the local favorites very well. I had the Caribbean Chicken with rice and beans and plantains. Excellent! I especially liked the vinegar based hot sauce with pickled peppers and cabbage. I washed my lunch down with a chilled coconut. Not bad for only C4,000. Tasty and reasonable entrees with a multimillion dollar view. Yes please!
John S — Google review
12/10 for the food. Fish was a poem, staff super friendly, location beautiful directly at the beach. We went three days in a row and sometimes I’m still thinking about the texture and the spices of the fish- even after months since we’ve been there.
K N — Google review
Ordered the Caribbean chicken for lunch - it was clearly from the day before and not even properly reheated. It was two boneless pieces of tepid, super dry chicken breast with no sauce. I asked for some sauce as that is how Caribbean chicken is supposed to be - they brought me a few tablespoons - still nowhere close to enough to make up for how dry the chicken was. It also tasted very under-seasoned - really just onions and a bit of garlic. And the cabbage slaw had no dressing and tasted like lemon soap. I tasted my friend's fish - it was cooked properly but also very little flavour and bland seasoning. The waiter was kind enough to let me taste the rondun soup and this was much better than the chicken and fish with rice and beans that we ordered. I just wasn't in the mood for it - it's like a Caribbean chowder - thick with a nice smoky flavour as it's cooked on open fire.

Tasty, fresh, and simple. The kind of restaurant you dream for on the beach. Staff is super friendly and vibes are pleasant. For those seeking authentic experience! BYOB allowed.

I went here for breakfast and it was absolutely incredible! I had a smoothie made with homemade almond milk, strawberries, bananas, and ginger - it tasted very fresh. I also ordered eggs with fresh fruit, vegetables of the day, and homemade humus. I received scrambled eggs with onion and cheese, homemade humus to be eaten with cooked eggplant and quinoa, fresh mango, tomato slices, and a salad. The couple that ran the place were so nice, their dog Diego was also extremely cute. 10/10 would recommend. I'm definitely coming here again the next time I'm in Puerto Viejo.

Farmers' market
Public Market is a vibrant weekly event featuring local farmers and artisans selling their goods. The market takes place every Saturday morning, offering a wide array of fresh produce, including fruits like papaya, mangoes, bananas, passion fruits, soursop, rambutans, oranges, pineapple, watermelon, coconut and avocado. In addition to the organic farmer's market on Saturdays until noon and an arts and crafts market from Thursday to Sunday in the afternoons and evenings.
We came around 6:30am. There were about a handful of vendors selling fresh fruits, eggs, veges, local products like cacao powder, coconut oil...There were a few vendors selling art stuffs like jewelry. They came a bit later around 7am or so. This is end of March, and we got were papaya, mangos, small banana, sweet kind of passion fruits, soursop, rambutans, oranges, pineapple, watermelon, coconut, and avocado. The fruits are fresh and ready to eat. Depend on what we got , the price could be cheap or just as much as we got in the US. For example, we got a good size soursop we paid 3000 colones (~$5-6), a medium papaya was 1000 colones, and for the Mexican avocado we paid 1000 -1200 (~$2 )colones each depending on the size. We tried the banana and papaya, and they was sweet and good. The soursop with condensed milk / sugar made really yummy smoothie . The rambutans were a bit too ripe for me, we got some from the super market and they weren't as ripe and we liked them better . We usually like farmers market so I would definitely go again if so stay longer. Recommend to check it out.

The Amazing Treehouse and Nature Observatorio in Puerto Viejo, Limon, Costa Rica is a remarkable experience set within the Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo. It offers the opportunity to observe the diverse flora and fauna from a height of 25 meters in the jungle canopy. The hike to reach the treehouse is an adventure in itself, led by knowledgeable guides who share insights about the untouched jungle. Climbing up to the treehouse using ropes adds an element of fun and challenge.
If you know excelent place times it like 10 x and that is not even close to how amazing treehouse is. You hike through untouched jungle with owner of treehouse who is after many years he spended in jungle professional nature guide. We saw many species of animals which we didnt even see in 7 hours hikes in other national parks. Hike to treegouse takes up to 40 minutes. And now treehouse: You need to climb up to the tree using rope its super funny thing to do it up to 30meters from ground. The thing is its hard to explain how amazing it is you need to see. everything view of jungle, sounds that animals making. parrots toucans flying around you in so close distance. You are like part of the forest :) The treehouse is construction like you never see somwhere else Peter done great job. whole project with peter idea making great concept how to protect nature while you can see it from close distance. I applaud him since this is great idea to make money from tourism and buy even more jungle to protect more. Do not except 5star luxury thing... this is even better but not from luxury side, from side of how easy you can be in touch with nature when you up on tree :) There is everything you need: Plenty of hammock and other hanging chillling things. Table where you enjoy great local dinner after they vring it to you attach to the rope and you took it up to you. the bed under the roof where you enjoy the symphony of night jungle. if google have 10 stara i even give it 100 :) Thanks for people who do their job with suxch a passion and eco friendly. Petrik & Erika ❤👍

Easy 40 minute hike, to the tree house. Along the way you are shown many kinds of jungle wildlife and many amazing things that the jungle has to offer. Peter, the owner and his partner, Jason, are very informative and friendly. Climbing up to the tree house, by rope, is challenging, but fun. Once you get to the top, the temperature and humidity change. It becomes cooler and dryer, with a nice breeze. Peter is very passionate about protecting the environment and is eager to show you how the tree house is suspended from the tree and not hurt, in any way, by sharing the space, with the tree house. I recommend this hike for people interested in jungle tours, tree houses and seeing the forest canopy, from a bird's eye view.

10/10 would recommend! wonderful team Teresa and Jose were fantastic I learned so much and they made sure I saw every animal I wanted to despite it being a slow day in the jungle! Will definitely come back and do the over night next time!

Outdoor Activities
Playa Cocles is a popular white sand beach known for its surfing, swimming, and sunbathing opportunities in a laid-back atmosphere. Unlike the intense waves at nearby Salsa Brava, Playa Cocles offers surfers steep lefts and rights that break on the sandy beach. The best wave breaks near an offshore island, providing a mellow left-hand longboarder's ride over a deep reef during the right tide and swell conditions from December to March.
This is the beach you should plan to spend most of your time at! The beach is full of people and activities, you can easily find surf lessons, and food can be hard by just walking from the beach! Locals will be wondering through with all kinds of homemade goodies and gifts. Locals definitely prefer to spend their day here, and you can expect to see beach games, surfers, and even fire twirlers at night! This place was our highlight for fun in the sun! The sand bar makes it easy for swimming without going out deep, be weary of the surf as the waves can be rather big and crash on the beach. You will truly enjoy your experience here!
Patrick D — Google review
This is a really fun beach! Tons of action!! Great waves, restaurants directly on the beach, a gym on the beach, volleyball courts, beautiful sunset, lots of young people…..my young adults kids did not want to leave! 😆 Also nice was the large number of life guards present which made us feel safe because the ocean here is pretty rough. This is an absolute beach to go to. 😎
Maria H — Google review
Amazing beach, one of my favorites! Good vibes, nice sea and water. Felt safe and I had some good swims. Also a nice walk from the city
Maxime S — Google review
Small surf at this beach or at the time of our visit. Only a few people out surfing. Life guards were present and kept people where they needed to be for safety. This is a big wide open beach with lots of space to spread out and not be on top of other people. Not a lot of shade as there is at many other nearby beaches. Bringing an umbrella or canopy would be an option for helping get out of the direct sunlight.
Lanster — Google review
Beautiful beach with many bar options. The weekends on vacation could be very crowded with lots of loud music. For people who likes peaceful places like me It could be a nightmare. For the ones who like lot of people and nightlife, It is perfect.
Augusto F — Google review
Beautiful beach with relaxed vibe and pretty wild and unspoiled sorroundings. If you have a chance, get a walk to the nearby little jungle, there’s a couple of great viewpoints as well the possibility to spot wildlife!
Natalia A — Google review
Very long and beautiful beach with easy access to parking and nearby vendors. Might have been just the day we visited but the waves and current were too strong to swim in (even a couple of feet in) and the beach doesn’t offer any shade anywhere close to the water so we ended up leaving and going to another beach with calmer waters for swimming.
Rachelle M — Google review
Beautiful but BE CAREFUL! Many people drown here every year. We didn’t even intend to go in past our knees but got swept out by the current and would have drown had a surfer not saved our lives.
