Place of worship
The First Methodist Church Shreveport offers a well-executed service with excellent sermon, music, and overall ambiance. However, some members of the congregation appear distant and lacking in friendliness, giving off an exclusive social club vibe rather than an environment where the Holy Spirit is present. Despite this drawback, the quality of the service and ability to connect with God individually make it worth considering another visit. The Sunday morning services are consistently watched by followers who appreciate Dr.
Generous and kind.. First Methodist is a great fellowship with people of all cultures, races, and ethnicities coming together for Bible Study Fellowship ..
Georgia B — Google review
Good sermon, beautiful service and music, but the people in the congregation did not appear to be very warm and welcoming—I could barely get a smile out of anyone and it felt more like an uppity social club than a place where the Holy Spirit dwelled. May give it one last try since the service was so good and I am able to commune with the Lord, alone, while there, but the fellowship is definitely lacking.

My little granddaughter goes to 3 year old school here. Her teachers are good and seem to really care. I went to a little graduation program there. It was wonderful to see all the children participating and all the adults involved.

I am very grateful for the First united Methodist church Shreveport Louisiana I love how they are treating the community and They Bless us on Holiday events.. great God filled place and exceptional people that care about the people....I recommend visiting and Enjoy the service....

I watch the services every Sunday morning, and I love the messages by Dr. Pat Day. This morning’s message about John Wesley was very informative and inspirational. Thank you! I also love to hear Ms. Billie with the children. One note, the choir needs to know that they are being filmed - sometimes distracting. God bless all of you for your service to Jesus Christ.

One of my first childhood memories... going to kindergarten there... this had to be... oh... 1960/61. Every Sunday, church... and often, on Wed. nights. I remember when the chapel (South of the main sanctuary) was completed... and the new (activities???) building (with the pool) was finished... oh, probably in early 1966 (and I was 10)... because we moved to Memphis just as soon as the school year was finished. I can't tell ya much more... I was a kid, and pretty much did what was expected. So much for sobriety.
Richard S — Google review
They judge people and tell the people they aren't welcome in their church if they don't like the person's living conditions. In 2010, I was separated (over a year) from my ex-husband when I met my son's father and got pregnant. My son's father was also separated from his ex-wife. We was all friends and hung out together. My ex-husband, my son's father, and I all went to First United Methodist together. They kicked us out and said we can't go there because I was pregnant and wasn't married to my son's father.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Holy Trinity Catholic Church is famous in Shreveport as it is one of the oldest churches in the city. The church features a signature alter made entirely of Italian marble and it is said to resemble a European cathedral more than a typical south-of-the-U.S. church. Additionally, the church's stained glass is particularly lovely.
Beautiful church with a blessed history and wonderful mass. I am very happy to have been able to attend a mass here today. Blessing abound.

I love this church, I’ve been going since I was young. One of the most beautiful churches in Shreveport. So much history behind the Church as well. Fr. Trombetta gives great homilies, and is very welcoming. I love attending beautiful, reverent masses here every week.

We were out of luck to find the church locked when we arrived, but undeterred we did capture some great pictures of the exterior. We would have enjoyed seeing the inside since we heard so much about, perhaps our next visit will be more complete.

The more I think about it, the more it bothers me. I’ve come to this church a couple times but last Sunday I experienced something very disappointing. We saw someone having a medical situation that required immediate attention because it seemed to be a cardiac arrest and while some people came over to help the man, the priest acknowledged the situation by saying there were enough volunteers and he just kept going like nothing was happening. I am so very disappointed that he reacted that way… maybe he doesn’t have the medical knowledge and that’s okay but he decided to ignore the emergency. As the lead of the church I think he should have reacted different because this person black out in front of our eyes and what the priest was saying was definitely not a priority.

The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, a Roman Catholic church established in 1929, is renowned for its dedication to Jesuit Saint John Berchmans. Situated in Lafayette, LA, this cathedral attracts visitors with its architectural beauty and stunning stained glass windows. Despite occasionally being locked, the helpful staff members are known to accommodate requests for entry and even offer small tours. This magnificent place of worship stands as a testament to the faith and artistry that define Catholic cathedrals.
It was a beautiful church! Security was outside the front door, so I felt very safe. I loved all the stained glass windows.

I was traveling from Dallas to Lafayette, LA and chose to stop at this cathedral very last minute (knowing it may not be unlocked). I happen to come on an evening when there was an assembly going on at the school next door. I explained my situation, and asked the right person about letting me in to pray for a few minutes (my seminarian friend told me it was beautiful - and he wasn't wrong!), and she hesitantly agreed! I am forever thankful to her! What a beautiful Cathedral! St. John Berchmans, pray for us!

Word of God Ministries in Shreveport, LA, is a vibrant place of worship where the pastor engages with the congregation in a relatable and inspiring manner. Many attendees appreciate the genuine and powerful messages delivered, which resonate well with both adults and children alike. The atmosphere is welcoming, making it easy for families to feel at home during services.
My first visit was powerful! The praise and worship into the sermon was powered by the Holy Spirit. I loved the presence of God I felt there. I will be going back soon. I do enjoy listening to the message online every Sunday too.

I believe this is a true man of the Word of God! He definitely has a passion for the Word! He has broken the word down to where I can understand it. And use it to help me live day to day. The music is awesome! I truly feel like I have been to heaven when I go to this church! And I feel refreshed when I leave!!! God bless 🙏

Great service. The pastor is easy to follow. My young grandchildren could follow him and understand. It was very inspiring. The message was timely and much needed. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the worship team was amazing!!

A great place to worship and learn more about God. Only thing is praise and worship team is not equal there are only 2 main singers one guy that stays in the middle and the other guy that plays the guitar. We are in the house of the Lord where their should be equal opportunity for everyone we would love to hear the women more and the other guys ✨, please take my feedback as consideration to change and allow them to sing more on Sundays and change the song patterns (same patterns) we would love to hear them too. God bless.

WOGM offer multiple services options Sunday. The congregation is helpful, informative and so very friendly. I went alone but instantly felt included and comfortable. The praise service drew me in and opened my heart and mind. When pastor McMenis started preaching I could feel the Lord speaking through him. He knows the Bible and even explained what the words ment in Hebrew and Greek. I loved the service and will be going back when Im in Louisiana

This past Sunday, I had the unique opportunity to visit Riverpark Church on Father's Day 2024, and it was truly a memorable experience. As someone on a spiritual journey seeking connection with the divine, I found myself captivated by the sense of community that enveloped me. Although I didn’t have an overwhelming moment of revelation, I could feel the warmth and inclusivity radiating from this diverse congregation.
One Word: Diversity I honestly go to church to receive the Word where It is absorbed. The little one loves it too and then I remembered a Barksdale Family spoke great things about the church and that it is diverse and So Welcoming. Honestly I can be skeptical sometimes, but I love where I can worship the Lord without be judged or crossed eyed because I may not look a certain way and be of a certain color. I love the fact that I can receive a sermon without talking about sports all the time. Jesus did not hang around with people that was not like him and it always hit me to the core with that information. This is a church I would highly recommend.
Nanny A — Google review
Welcoming community of people very eager to have you included. Various services to suit multiple needs. Something for everyone seeking Christian worship or council.

So we would love to see you there if you are in the area

Do you ever just realize that you need something? I did not find RiverPark, but RiverPark found me. I was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 cancer when they did. A connect group made me a care basket while I endured chemo and radiation. Their kindness made me feel welcomed and wanted.

We only recently discovered Riverpark Church and are happy we did. It has a unique and welcoming vibe and welcoming people! The pastor was even out in the courtyard greeting. The music was incredible and both sermons had a great balance of complexity and relatability. Can't wait to see what's next.

I was at River Park Church this past Sunday (father's day 2024). It was an experience I had never had before. I am a spiritual person searching for the true spirit in me that I had lost. I was not struck by a thunder bolt when I went to a service. But I did see a vision of the circle/tribe of people in this community. I am in hopes to meet members of all sort. Though it may be difficult as I am an extreme introvert. But I will definitely step outside of my comfort box. And meet the members. Thank you for the service. Thank you for the coffee. And I might just have a snack with my coffee this coming Sunday. Hope to meet you guys and gals, soon! Sincerely, Julian Sedano

Life United, previously known as Word of Life Center, offers a refreshing take on community and worship that stands out from traditional churches. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by friendly door greeters and a cozy foyer featuring coffee and Bible resources. The atmosphere is vibrant and diverse, showcasing a true melting pot of cultures with people from various backgrounds coming together in unity. The pastor delivers engaging sermons that emphasize the significance of prioritizing Jesus over societal norms while fostering a deep relationship with God the Father.
When I walk inside, I am always reminded of what the TRUE image of God's Kingdom will look like. They say Church day is one of the most segregated days of the week, becuase all the black people go to black churches, and all the white people go to white churches. Life United (formerly Word of Life) is LITERALLY a melting pot, and I have never seen anything like this before. I saw Asian people, Hispanic, and Black and white men shaking hands, patting each other on the back and laughing. There are interracial couples. There are black and white men and women singing on stage. I love this. There are gift bags for guests. Prayer warriors are at the front of the stage after service. There's so much more, but it's really nice.

Blessing to my Brother and Sister in Christ. I was invited by my sister-in- law to come to Word of Life Center to hear Pastor Sam Carl preach, this past Sunday. Man I was very impressed from the moment I walk in the sanctuary it was different from all the main steam church at this point at I have visited. started from the door greeters, who was very friendly, as I walk in to the foyer area it have a coffee/cappuccino section and a small bible books section, Hey that was totally different for me. And when I walk in your main sanctuary in look like a movie theater Hey! that I was impress. But the Best was yet to come, starting with the Beautiful music and singing. Then the Preaching from Pastor Sam Carl, coming from the book of Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 1:3. As a preach and a self made scholar I have study in the book of Genesis for the past years and a half breaking down Genesis scripture on the third earth principal. Pastor Carl talk was very precise and refreshing to hear. But over all I enjoyed myself be there this past Sunday. Come & see for yourself. The pastor is a great teacher with a sense of humor. He teaches the importance of honoring Jesus over man, having a close relationship with God the Father, & allowing the Holy Spirit to work in & thru you as a believer. He cares about having the church ready for Christ’s return.

I can't believe no one has written a review yet. This is the most awesome church I have ever been to in my life. When I was stationed at Barksdale, I was at every service I could get to. Small Group leaders were talking negatively about a previous member during time that was supposed to be dedicated to talking about the bible. They cultivate a bad environment in the church and are giving a bad example for those they are supposed to be mentoring. Not a good environment for those looking to be included or to create bonds with other christians

Nestled in the heart of Caddo and Bossier Parishes, Mt Canaan Baptist Church is a vibrant community that truly embodies warmth and hospitality. During a recent visit for Family and Friends Day, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of joy as the congregation came together to celebrate. The service was uplifting, highlighted by an inspiring sermon from Pastor Greg Oliver on 2 Kings 4:38, where he shared profound insights about Elisha's miracle with pottage.
My wife and I were invited to Mt Canaan for a visit on family and friends day. It was a very joyous service and the members there were very gracious and after the service we were invited to share a really delicious meal. The choir was really beyond amazing and the gospel music was uplifting. Pastor Greg Oliver gave a brilliant sermon on 2 Kings, chapter 4, verse 38, when the prophet Elisha purified the pot of pottage. It had been accidentally poisoned by putting in some wild gourds…but Elisha added to it some “meal” (probably flour) and it was made good to eat. The reverend explained at length the meaning and lesson of this passage….that if our families, churches, nation and so on are broken, the solution is not to leave them, but to stay, to add something like Elisha to make it better. It had real meaning to me….we all experience brokenness in our lives and we can see the massive problems our nation is facing. The solution is to pray for God’s grace and to stay and add something. Pastor Oliver did all this with real eloquence, and was even challenging to us all there. He is a real master of preaching. Then he began to sing on the topic and he has a beautiful voice as well. I’m attaching some short videos of the choir….I can only post snippets on this site. The choir is very moving. No one could nod off at Mt Canaan Baptist Church!

There is something about this church that moved my spirit to tears on more than one occasion. The choir is phenomenal! The pastor's teachings are enriching! The people there are warm, friendly and inviting. I can't wait to get to know the church and the people within it better.

Love him and his family like I love Pastor Blake's family. Mount Canaan is a great place to be fed the Word of God.

11-4-2017) I wish to thank my former student,Deacon Derrick Washington, for inviting me to view the Sunday 11-3-2017 live broadcast and the 11am Canaanite Hour honoring Pastor Blake for his 51st Pastor's Anniversary. I was pleased to learn of Pastor Blake's 51 years of faithful service to The Lord and of his genuine guidance and ministry to Derrick as Derrick's beloved Pastor for the past 8 years. Thank you, Pastor Blake, for guiding your flock, for telling them and showing them the joy that Jesus gives and for being a presence in their lives in times of need as well as times of glee. I felt The Lord's spirit as I enjoyed the entire service and especially the tribute to you from Derrick. Sincerely, Mrs. S Andrews

St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, is a serene oasis where the original congregation worked together to create a place of grace and tranquility. The parish is known for its welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, with tall trees adding to its picturesque setting. The church offers multiple Mass times throughout the week, including services in both English and Spanish.
Saint Mary’s original congregation was made up of amazing people who worked and prayed together to bring into existence this oasis from the distractions of the world and this source of God’s grace. Those who are still amongst you should be held up as examples of what it means to be givers of unconditional love. I know this because they gave it to me.

I went to a performance of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra at the First Baptist Church and hsve to say it was one of the nicest evenings of entertainment in a long time. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the acoustics for the excellent orchestra and soloist were also very good. Music included renderings from Moxart and Schubert to Radiohead. The Shreveport symphony is well worth attending even for newbies to "classical" music and nobody should feel excluded because their experience has not YET extended to classical composers. Shreveport Community Church (SCC) is more than just a place of worship; it’s a vibrant community that has been a cornerstone for many families over the years. From childhood to adulthood, individuals have found solace and support within its walls, celebrating life’s milestones and navigating challenges together. The church offers programs for all ages, ensuring that whether you’re raising young children or enjoying retirement, there’s a welcoming space for everyone.
I visited for the first time today. We recently moved back to this area to be closer to our family. I retired after 30 yrs with an awesome co. in Shreveport. We left the area in 2012. The music was awesome, the message was moving & the Word was preached. If you’re also looking for a church home, I recommend you visit SC Community church. In my opinion, you won’t be disappointed.

SCC is truly a place of worship, holiness, and community. From the worship team, to the pastors, as well as the kid’s service, my family has had such an amazing, life changing experience by going to this church. We have met the most loving people and friends that have helped my family grow closer to God. The pastors and church members go above and beyond to make sure each visitor feels like they are apart of the SCC family. This church not only offers a diverse selection of community groups to be involved with, but also has a huge heart for kid’s ministry as well.

And the children’s service they have that goes on during the main service is amazing! My youngest use to always want to come with me to service, but we were able to get her to try the kids service one Sunday and she has been in love with it ever since! I will ask her does she want to come with me and she tells me mom I’m a big girl I’m going to go with all my friends. And the service team they have to take care of the younger ones is absolutely amazing too! I have been a patient at Pilgrim Manor for 3 years. I was very dependent on staff and now I am all over the building. Therapy here is awesome. My grandmother is unfortunately living here and I’ve been calling religiously to complain the staff here is BLATANTLY committing elder abuse. I work for the state of Oregon and I am calling the Louisiana DCFS regularly and looking at alternative options to get her out. My grandmother broke her arm there, they openly admitted it was from their floors. They also waited hours before taking her to get medical care and did not inform my family until later, then waited even longer for her to be seen. Previously they left her on the floor for over 8 hours after she fell. They are always lying to my family about things that are happening saying they will call and don’t. We’ve tried to get her moved but it was some how “magically” the requests were blocked and we couldn’t. We are still pursuing moving her because this place should be shut down. They don’t even pronounce my grandmothers name correctly when they see her daily, which is the bare minimum when it comes to basic respect and decency. The nurses are consistently absent and my grandmother is left covered in urine for hours or her arm is out of the sling. They are so obvious in their lack of care it is deplorable. Again I am a state employee so I know how unacceptable this facility is and I know how to run it up the chain. My department investigates child abuse and elder abuse and just from my families situation alone, I know this facility will not have a leg to stand on. The way they behave is unethical, immoral, inhumane and despicable. The staff and manager say they will call my mom back and then don’t for days. There have been consistent issues here for a long time and they won’t let us transfer my grandmother to somewhere that actually cares. It is so apparent the staff does not care about the well being of the folks there, and you can tell upon walking in the building how much disdain their is for the patients. They gaslight my grandmother saying she was a sleep, when she wasn’t and an aide refused to help her check in for a doctors appointment. I’m taking significant action and at the bare minimum this place will be investigated and with the broken arm situation and admission, there will be more to come. Y’all can’t get away with treating people like this and I’m not only advocating for my grandmother but for all the people who unfortunately live in this facility that may not have someone in their corner. ***To the anonymous reviewer from 3 weeks ago please reach out and I would love to speak with you on your experience as I am gathering evidence and documentation. Like I stated in the review, I’m familiar with state policies and would love your on-site on the deplorable conditions.
Malissa B — Google review
They don't even deserve one star so I'm not going to give them anything. They leave my husband wet all the time. Everyday when I get there he is wet and no one knows who has him. They keep him laying in poop from front to back then they want to charge all that money. When you tell someone they do good for a minute then they'll go back to the same routine

I guess the deleted my last review as I can’t find it to respond to the owner. Terrible. My mom was here 5 years. She fell several times, was in hospital for UTI several times and the last time she was septic by the time they got her to the hospital. They also let all of her teeth rot out. So sad. We moved mom and she is like a different person now. Dear Owner, we tried resolving issues with your facility for 5 years. It’s a joke! Here is what I said in my first review: a week ago Don’t let the fancy care facilities fool you! My mother was in one of their facilities and within 5 years, she stopped communicating and all of her teeth were gone. No matter how we pleaded for them to care for her oral hygiene and she was supposedly on a dental plan, they did nothing. She had beautiful teeth. She also almost died of sepsis due to an ignored bladder infection which led to blood infection which put her in the hospital. This was not the first time they had ignored her and she was put into the hospital. Such a sad place. Don’t put your loved ones here! My mother stopped talking while at their facility. We moved her to a new facility where she is actually conversing with us again and she knows us! I don’t know what they were doing to her. All I know is she is more alert and speaking again since being moved.

I just was sent here today from the hospital. My initial impression is not good. My room is not very well maintained with old peeling paint & scratches on woodwork. I don't have a private bathroom but have to share a bathroom with room resident next door. This makes me very uneasy with the Covid virus situation. The bathroom has an ant infestation problem too. I was told not to ring the call bell because they only do patient care every two hours here. They were reluctant to get me a potty chair since I can't walk far to the bathroom. But I finally got one. So far not a good experience. Beware of going to these rehab facilities without inspecting them first. I couldn't do that from the hospital.
