Makris Gialos Beach is a picturesque sandy stretch with calm aqua waters and stunning views. It's an ideal spot for families, offering comfy lounge chairs for rent. The name translates to 'long sandy beach,' perfectly capturing its serene atmosphere. Visitors can bask in the warm Mediterranean sun or find shade under umbrellas while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming, and the sand is soft and clean. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, making it ideal for a peaceful day at the beach, yet still lively enough to enjoy a fun day in the sun.
Nevena M — Google review
Nice sandy beach, cristal clear water and sun-beds options - cafe area with paid sun-beds or public beach area where you can use your own umbrellas. This is one of the most crowded beach but you can always find a spot. Water sports are also possible option here.
Alex R — Google review
Hands down our favourite spot of the whole holiday — honestly one of the nicest beaches I’ve ever been to! The sand is soft and lovely (though fair warning, it does get scorching hot in peak sunshine!), and the water is absolutely crystal clear. I’m usually a bit hesitant about swimming in the sea, but I felt so confident here because the water was so clear and calm — you could see everything around you. It made for such a relaxing swim. The beach itself was clean, spacious, and never felt overcrowded. There were several shaded areas available too, which is great if you don’t have your own umbrella. One of the best parts is the convenience — there are three beachside bars/restaurants right there, plus a water sports provider if you’re feeling adventurous. The clear waters also made for perfect snorkelling — we saw loads of little fish without having to go far at all.
Olivia I — Google review
A small but nice beach with crystal clear waters and fine sand hidden in a bay with a beach bar with parking nearby. It is a well-sheltered beach where you can walk peacefully when strong winds blow on the island, it is only slightly affected by waves due to the bay and the huge rocks in the water on the side of the beach
Liviu H — Google review
Beautiful beach! Long stretch of sand, plenty of spaces to lie down in peace. Sand had good fine coarseness to it and was clean. Nice couple of restaurants for a bite/Cafe if you want to save money from the sunbeds.
Jimi D — Google review
Crystal clear water, shallow and ideal for families and young children, sandy beach. Sand can get very hot, so take flip flops/shoes. Plenty of car parking at the top and the steps down are not too steep, but can be a bit sandy/slippy. Loads of sun beds and parasols to choose from at ok prices and there is a large section where you can lay towels and take umbrellas. Several public toilets and a couple of beach bars which are great for snacks and drinks - prices are quite high though. Overall a great beach and facilities.
Ben — Google review
Clean beach with little to no wasps. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to walk around. The water is crystal clear and not crowded at all. The service at the beach bar is a bit lacking though the staff can sometimes come across as grumpy, and the prices for food and drinks are quite high. €20 for a chicken sandwich with fries and around €8 for a beer. Soft drinks were about €3.50. Renting the sunbeds is also rather expensive. In October we paid €30 for two beds and an umbrella. So if you come often, that can add up. There’s also a very cute orange cat wandering around. He likes to lie in the shade near you, but be careful, he tends to scratch if you try to pet him!
Ferdi — Google review
This is a truly superb beach. The water is crystal clear and it is isnt a huge walk from the main road. Plenty of car parking for scooters and cars. We were only staying about a 10 minute walk from the beach and it was perfect for anyone staying at san lorenzo village or within that area. We never bothered with getting any sun loungers. Plenty of room for you to bring your umbrellas to enjoy the day. Supermarkey sells them for €20 which is a short walk. Zorbas restaurant also do takeaways to bring down. Honestly a fantastic beach.

Koutavos Lagoon in Argostoli is connected to settlements by the de Bosset bridge, offering a picturesque view of the area. Despite some human impact, the lagoon boasts a diverse ecosystem with around 500 plant species, including endemic ones. Visitors can also observe unique local wildlife such as sea turtles and ducks. It's recommended to visit in the morning for optimal turtle spotting and to enjoy the tranquil nature walks along this beautiful lagoon.
A place where you can enjoy of a peaceful walk and view depending on your time you can also maybe visit the reptile center what is located in the park.
Angela S — Google review
North part of the lagoon v.nice would give 4/5 stars. You can follow a path from the bridge on the western shore all the way to the far southern tip of the lagoon. The path turns from slabbed tiles to wide gravel, w/chair accessible, benches every few hundred metres, some lighting+rubbish bins. However the further round you go the more unloved it becomes. Finally ending in a temporary fence blocking access to a lorry park on the edge of this fragile eco environment. The jetty is long time closed which is a real shame as with some TLC this would make a spectacular viewpoint for a very different view back to Argostoli. The prevailing wind direction also means there is a solid 4ft of rubbish floating and lapping up against the shoreline.! Every bit of rubbish that enters the bay looks like it eventually ends up here.!
Richard D — Google review
Super nice spot for spotting carettas! You can see them perfectly right by the bridge. Rather go in the morning.
Nikol Č — Google review
We were quite disappointed by the state of the park around the lagoon. It was quite dirty and we had a hard time finding the way out. The boat trip on the lake was however quite pleasant.

Beach
Platis Gialos Beach is a picturesque coastal spot located 3 km from Argostoli, adjacent to Makrys Gialos beach. The area is embraced by verdant hills and abundant vegetation. This beach boasts pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters, earning it the prestigious Blue Flag for cleanliness and excellent facilities. It's not overly crowded, making it perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts.
Very clean sandy beach, easy to access with parking available near the beach or can be accessed by foot. Deck chairs 15€ for two. The beach also has a kiosk for water snacks coffee etc.
Ania D — Google review
The most beautiful beach ⛱️ with outstanding views. Free parking, changing rooms and WCs. Sunbathing and swimming in the crystal clear sea made easy with plenty of space, small shop with a shaded area. Beautiful way to relax and very popular with locals who are so friendly. Sunbeds and umbrella 15 Euro and cash and card both taken.
W C — Google review
Excellent beach, great for spending time with the kids. The beach is sandy and the entrance is very gentle, the beach has all the necessary services and you don't have to pay for a beach umbrella or chairs if you bring your own or just want to lie in the sun. There is limited parking on site and another parking space across the road on a sandy lot. Highly recommended.
Ofir V — Google review
Expensive umbrella charge! Wanted 100 euros for a front row umbrella! 70 for further back. Seems like trying to gouge cruise ship visitors. Nice beach but slippery stairs down to beach and entry into the water rocky for first 5 meters. Very nice sand after that. Water sports a bit noisy as they go back and forth with inflatables.
Paul D — Google review
The water is calm and crystal clear but keep in mind that the sunbeds are in limited number so it is pretty difficult to find available ones if you don't get there early. The cost is 15 euros for 2 sunbeds
Alexandra P — Google review
Lovely beach right next to White rocks hotel. The sea is crystal clear to start and then a lovely tourqoise. Be careful entering sea as first metre is fine single that sucks you in, then few metres of smooth rock before hitting sand. Price for front row umbrella and two loungers was €20 (SEP 25).
James 4 — Google review
Very beautiful and clean beach! Lots of fish to look at and mostly sandy:) it has a shower, a cafe, changing rooms and a bathroom next to the parking. Also you can rent kounge chairs and umbrellas. Highly recommend.
Daniela S — Google review
A nice sandy beach in Lassi. Lots of changing rooms, rather clean toilets (on the parking lot but be warned: no toilet paper at all). Plenty of natural shade because of the rocks. Paid sunbeds - 15 Euro a pair. The water is amazing and a friend of mine saw a massive sea turtle! The only bad thing are the many cigarette buds in the sand, like hundreds.

Beach
Gradakia Beach is a favorite gem on the island of Kefalonia, located close to Lassi. It offers soft sand and crystal-clear waters, making it an absolute marvel for visitors. Accessible by car with free parking available, getting here is stress-free. The beach provides various sunbed setups at different prices and a rocky area perfect for snorkeling and observing marine life.
Nice sized beach with a bar and plenty of loungers. We brought our own umbrella and a throw and settled at the far end. The waters are beautiful. We also visited at sunset for a picnic and evening swim, they were playing some nice Balearic tunes, very relaxing
Mel B — Google review
Nice beach , we see more beautiful in the island. Pay attention set of sun beds are 12€
Elihay N — Google review
Gradakia Beach is a decent option in the Lassi area. It's a smaller beach with soft, gray sand and clear water. The beach is organized with sunbeds and a beach bar, which is convenient. The sunbeds and refreshments are priced fairly for the area. The beach offers a relaxed atmosphere, making it suitable for a quiet day. It's easy to get to by car, and there are views of the surrounding area. Overall, it's a fine place to spend some time if you're looking for a low-key beach experience.
Ioannis — Google review
It is nice, but very small...it is sandy beach and often, water isn't clear, it gets crowdy...across the beach, there is clear shallow lagoone where you can get trough the stones and enjoy the little caves, snorkeling without crowd
Aleksandra M — Google review
Such a lovely little beach. There is plenty of of parking nearby, the water is clear and shallow. Perfect for kids.
Diana C — Google review
Lovely small beach. Good for swimming and snorkelling (especially in the the next two bays with caves by Kamaroules taverna).
Will D — Google review
Rocks, cliffs, no beach, no sand. Not a beach. Down a steep hill to get to, then you realise there's no beach and have to walk back up. There is a road you can drive down there on. No toilet, no cafe, nothing good there. Unless you like to sit on rock. Not good if you're looking for a beach.
Richard B — Google review
Truly breathtaking. I like sandy beaches so this is not exactly for me, but you have to see this beauty.

Beaches
Kalamia Beach is a charming spot located near Argostoli, accessible by foot. While the route to the beach may be a bit tricky to find, it's worth the effort for those seeking a leisurely beach day without bustling water sports. The beach features warm and shallow waters with some stones at the entrance, making it suitable for snorkeling and swimming. Visitors can enjoy a mediocre beach bar with a limited menu and are advised that reserved umbrellas are primarily for Italian tourists from nearby hotels.
Lovely little beach, we visited at Easter and after a family left, had the whole beach to ourselves, lovely turquoise water, nice and warm considering the time of year and a nice little cave/arch for the kids to explore. No parking but we parked on the roadside and walked down, not far at all Only downside was the rubbish washed up but I'm sure during peak season it's cleared away. Great little beach, would recommend.
Stuart P — Google review
We visited on a Friday, it was not overly busy, you can rent umbrella and two lounges for €15 and they ask you not to eat your own food but to buy food they supply the beach is a beautiful beach. The sea is calm and clear and makes for a good swim as it does not drop off too quickly. We didn’t see many children on the beach mostly adults we thought it was good value for money with the umbrella and two lounges the food was reasonably priced. There is a small amount of parking up on the road and then a short walk down to the beach that is quite easy. We stayed for around six hours and was very enjoyable.
Kevin M — Google review
This place is absolutely beautiful – one of the most stunning beaches we’ve visited. The water was clear and pleasant, but the seabed is rocky in many areas, so if you want to get close to the cave-like rock formation, be careful.
Péterová B — Google review
Beautiful beach, there are sunbeds available for 15€ per set (2 sunbets and umbrella). There were a strong smell in the area, I don't know if it because of the time of the day, or this place has a bad adore in general
Theodore I — Google review
Just a short walk from our hotel. Sunbeds and umbrella was €15 for the day. The sea was beautiful and crystal clear. Great for snorkelling around the rocks. Cafe was great and reasonably priced.
Wayne S — Google review
One of the best beaches in Greece. Get there before mid-day if you need an umbrella and chairs ($15) as it was full when we went. Clear water, sandy beach, caves, rocks, great for snorkelling, snack shack, shower, toilet. Not accessible for all however. Don't come here so there is more space for me next time! Haha
Richard B — Google review
A small, picturesque beach, extremely quiet and relatively private. Parking is available along the roadside, and it has never been crowded. Access is via a dirt path, easy to walk down in 2–3 minutes. Two sunbeds with an umbrella cost €15. You can also sit freely on the sand. There is a bar serving cold drinks and snacks. No restroom facilities — the only downside.
Sava C — Google review

Paliostafida Beach, situated in Argostoli on the picturesque island of Kefalonia in Greece, is a renowned spot for tourists seeking pristine sandy shores and clear azure waters. The beach offers various water sports activities and is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Visitors can also explore the charming streets, historic landmarks, and vibrant nightlife of nearby Argostoli. The beach features a small bar with friendly staff offering tasty food and drinks at reasonable prices.
For me top 3 beach on the island. We were on the right beach and this is for me best beach for children. You can go more then 5 meters in water and the deth wold be like 40-50cm. Water very nice, sand too, it has showers and toilets next to restaurant. Biggest plus for me is the shade you get. If you go there around 9 you can choose any place of shade you think is the best. Beach is clean and great!
Yumirio S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful beach, with soft, clean, golden sand and the clearest of water. Tucked away as it looks as if they are building a seafront hotel. We were there from lunch time onwards and there was very little construction noise. The lapping of the waves in the shallow water, was the only thing we could hear from our sun loungers! Absolutely blissful. Two loungers and a grass umbrella for 20€. Great price for May. Big bonus is a snack bar serving drinks, alcohol and snacks. Extremely friendly and helpful service and I had the most delicious Greek salad baguette. A hidden gem of a beach and the best I've been to in a long time!
Caroline P — Google review
Very nice beach. Sandy but large pebbles going in to the sea so can be painful walking in to the water. There is a new construction on the south end of the beach which is a bit of an eyesore. Longers and parasols a little expensive in my opinion but you may be able to sneak onto the ones owned by the hotel and there are many of them. Sea is clean and good for snorkelling with a few rocky areas. There is a snack cafe and shower and toilet. Access is very easy with ramps and steps. A few cigarette ends and bits of rubbish on sand but not much. Plenty of space in August. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Richard B — Google review
Nice beach. Sunbeds to rent which take up most of the nice sand to lie on. Good drinks stand, friendly workers. Not the most scenic walk there with all the construction.
Jimi D — Google review
There are some parking spaces behind the construction site. The first part of the beach is small and the waves reach all the sunbeds. There is a bigger beach, if you walk a little bit and jump some rocks. There is only sand and the water is very nice.
C G — Google review
Quiet little Sandy beach, perfect to get away from the crowds. A toilet, shower and changing room. And the best little bar serving the most amazing gyros. The owner of the bar totally looked after us, and even helped us book a taxi back to the ship. €20 for two beds and a parasol, get there early as they fill up. Wonderfully chilled tunes in the back ground. Yes there is a hotel being built directly behind, but it didn’t ruin our visit. Would go again totally. Thank you.
Lorraine B — Google review
Small beach with a small canteen and few sunbeds. They are building huge hotel units right above this small beautiful beach so honestly idk how it will look like in a few years! The water is clear, it has sand and it is shallow so perfect if you have young kids

The Corgialenios Historical & Cultural Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It houses a collection of photos, paintings, and artifacts that showcase the island's rich heritage. The museum is part of the Corgialenios Foundation, which was established in 1924 with a mission to preserve and promote Kefalonia's cultural traditions. Visitors can also explore the Archaeological Museum and the Historical and Folklore Museum nearby.
Fascinating museum providing some essential history of Kefalonia, For me, it was very interesting to see the devastation caused by the earthquake, and also the island's connection to the UK.
Chris B — Google review
Fairly interesting museum with air conditioning. Historic items and paintings with a section/photographs of the earthquake and the re-build. €5 per adult and children are free. Staff were very welcoming and offered to answer any questions on anything in the museum. No signage to direct you there, but not far from the main square. Ask where you are staying to phone them directly to check opening times as it can vary through the season and can close (August 2025: 9am to 2pm, Monday to Friday).
Ben — Google review
Interesting little local museum however not much about specific ancient greec history more on Georgian and victoria and early 20th century history
Jessica W — Google review
Excellent beach for most travelers. Free parking and free beach. You can rent lounge chairs and an umbrella for the day which is recommended. The shore is sandy with some rocks right when you enter the water. Children tend to move the few rocks every 5-10 meters to create rock free paths once in the water. The water is shallow for about ten to twenty meters before getting deeper where you can no longer stand. They have a nearby beach bar which serves cold beverage, alcoholic options, Greek food and pastries. There is also local tube, jet ski, and boat activities for a little more water sport / beach action for those thrill seekers. Otherwise, enjoy the day at the beach. This beach is tourist heavy during summer season so don't expect too much quiet but everyone is highly respectful. Family friendly. If you have water shoes, they are nice here if you have soft feet but not required. Highly recommend.
Nick M — Google review
This is a magical little museum, perfect if you want to spend a cool hour or two out of the summer sun, discovering Kefalonia's layers of history and tradition. The museum is full of delightfully quirky objects: costumes, tools, examples of traditional craftwork, and paintings and photographs of Kefalonia from before the earthquake of 1953. This summer (2022) it also hosts an exhibition of imaginative semi-surreal encaustic paintings by the local contemporary artist, Alexis Avlamis, whose artworks here are inspired by the museum's items and displayed alongside them. The museum's director, Theotokoula Gasparou, is wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable in either Greek or English, and patiently answered all my children's questions during our visit. Highly recommended!
Emily P — Google review

Platia Kampanas, or Bell Square, is a charming pedestrian area located in the heart of Argostoli. This delightful square features a historic Clock Tower that was beautifully reconstructed after the 1953 earthquake. Surrounded by quaint cafes and shops, it invites visitors to relax and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. The square is particularly enchanting in the evening when it comes alive with bustling street bars and lively crowds.
Platia Kampanas has become a place that people can come with their families. Children can play safely in view of their parents. It has a very good ice cream shop all homemade. Sovlaki shop is also very good. Plus they have a new pizzeria.

Pretty square to hang out for a drink or a gelato. It’s not very touristy during non peak seasons and hence a delight to be around here. Cars aren’t allowed into the tiny stretch which is a relief.
Emily R — Google review
We had a late night pizza in the Platia. It was delicious. Each pizza is so huge. We were glad we shared one between us. It was freshly made in their proper pizza oven. The base was light and crispy and the toppings very generous. It was a great atmosphere late at night in the square. Kids playing, families eating together and couples (like us) chatting romantically. It wasn’t the cheapest of pizzas but it was delicious.

Fanari Beach, located in Argostoli, is a popular sandy beach known for its suitability for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. It's easily accessible from the city center and offers shallow, crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling. While lacking natural shade, visitors can bring their own parasols or find some in the nearby town. The beach is not overly crowded and features warm, clean water along with convenient amenities such as showers and nearby restaurants.
Lovely restaurant - delicious food and friendly staff. Had a good lunch between us of gyros, tuna salad and souvlaki. Very nicely done.

Our accommodation was right opposite this beach. It was perfect for a quick swim or an early morning splash! The waters are shallow and crystal clear. Also, it is sandy inside, which is a pleasure for your feet after you've experienced some of the Kefalonian rocky treasures. Not the prettiest shore, but definitely a very charming place to be!
Jess G — Google review
Great beach with calm shallow water, great for kids. Has a shower and is close to restaurants too
Yardena K — Google review
A great beach stop with very shallow waters for children. They have little showers to wash sand off too. A small sandy beach, but perfect for a short stop. Lots of parking near by. There are two little restaurant too which for can get good and drinks for and look out to see to enjoy.
Jake — Google review
That water is nice for a quick dip but the beach in itself is super trashy. Since it's on the windier side, the waves bring in a lot of seaweeds. People have also made it worse by littering.
Charles B — Google review
Excellent place, shame about the amount of trash littering the place. Seems like a common European theme, perhaps NZ has spoilt me to much though.
Billy J — Google review
Amazing beach. Not crowded at all. Warm and clean water. A few minutes away from the lighthouse. There are two restaurants just in front. Beach with blue flag and showers.
Ana T — Google review
It’s a good beach for the end of the day. But there was a lot os trash like broken glasses on the beach, looks dangerous.

Performing arts theater
The Municipal Theater Kefalos is a must-visit attraction in Argostoli, located at the center of the city and close to the main square. The theater boasts 500 comfortable seats, a spacious stage, and numerous dressing rooms. It also features an extra large ground floor hall and facilities for disabled visitors. Throughout the year, it hosts a diverse range of performances including plays, concerts, and cinema screenings during winter.
We saw an art exhibit. It was free. I did not take photos of paintings but they were enlightening. Artists present to describe paintings.

The theatre in Argostoli puts on a large range of productions from plays to concerts and during the winter months becomes a very comfortable cinema as well. There are occasionally classic movies but also latest releases. I have seen several of the new Star Wars films in 3D, and I am writing this review have just returned home from watching Last Christmas a new release certainly across Britain but also here. An excellent place to see a wide range of wonderful entertainment at a very reasonable price. Thoroughly recommended!

The municipal theatre in Argostoli is a must visit. In e centre of Argostoli and close to three central square, it has 500 comfortable seats, a big stage and many dressing rooms. It is generally a big theatre for a provincial city. There is an extra big hall ground floor. Of course there are amenities for disabled visitors.

Nice theatre, a lot bigger than I expected for Kefalonia. I had the pleasure of seeing the Karaviotis brothers performing at a special show for Easter time which was awesome.
Eddie R — Google review
It's welcoming and comfortable. They put on many things from plays to the silver screen.

Boat rental service
Lagoon Activities in Argostoli offers a variety of boat rental services for tourists looking to explore the area. From the harbour, visitors can choose to take a ferry to Lixouri or opt for a day trip on one of the vessels operated by Enalios Cruises. These day trips include options like a naturist cruise and depart from Argostoli. Another option is to charter a private tour with Kefalonia Yachts.
We had a great time on the pedal boats going out across the lagoon and seeing the De Bosset Bridge from a new angle. We went twice in two days after our son enjoyed it so much and wanted to see the local sea turtle caretta-caretta. It can be hard pedalling against the wind if it picks up so save some energy for the return trip.
Jacob H — Google review
Very peaceful electric cruise around the lagoon. €40 for an electric boat, could probably seat 5 comfortably. €30 for a pedal which has 4 seats. Both 45minutes which is plenty. Seems a popular stop and pretty well run, the boats were going out as quickly as they came back in. We spotted a couple of turtles but would say we spotted just as many from the bridge and quayside. Was very nice for a different perspective.
Josh P — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience and the people running the whole thing are simply fantastic. Very kind and friendly, giving you great instructions and tips, both about how to steer the boat but also how to locate the turtles. Aim for early hours when it’s not very windy and you can clearly see below the boat. 100% recommend, would definitely visit again.

This is one of the best things my partner and I done in kefalonia! The workers are so friendly and helped us with any questions we had, it was cash only as the card machine had gone down but luckily we had some euros. I would recommend having some euros incase this happens again so then you dont have to wait around for it to work or go and find a way to get money out. My partner and I got an electric boat which was only 10 euros more (around 40 euros for the electric boats) We managed to see a couple small turtles and two big sea turtles swimming below us! It was absolutely amazing and really made our day! The boat has shade which is essential in the heat! They also handed us free cold water bottles for when you're on the boats which was so nice! Definitely recommend and will be back to do it again!

We hired an electric boat and it was €40 for 45 minutes. Very good fun. The guy explained where you could and couldn't go and off we went!
Jennifer M — Google review
It was a very nice boattrip with sight on the mountains and city. The boat have shadow. It is very calm on the water. And there are seaturtles near the shoreline, but you have to see closely. Float in the water at 10:00-11:00 hours.

We came by cruise ship and it was a 25 minute leisurely walk from the terminal. We hired an electric boat for 45 mins which was €40. Nice gentle ride around, and we did spot turtles.
Classic W — Google review
Very enjoyable pedal boat trip. The staff provided us with cold water. The sun was too strong however. I think it would be more enjoyable on the afternoon
