Historic Walking Areas
Savina Monastery is a serene complex located just outside the town, featuring three hillside churches and religious treasures such as a silver icon, frescoes, and relics. The monastery, named after Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, offers beautiful coastal views from its position on the town's eastern slopes. It includes the elegant 18th-century Church of the Dormition carved from Croatian pinkish stone.
Very pleasant little monastery. Probably not our favourite in Montenegro, but defo worth a little diversion to it if you’re in the area. Lots of gold leaf, icons and candles as you’d expect. Peaceful grounds and a large cemetery over various levels. A nice viewpoint from up in the hill.
Mike R — Google review
Unfortunately, the main church is under reconstruction. Only the small one is open for a visit. Nevertheless, it is beautiful and peaceful area to walk around and relax.
Jolita — Google review
This is a beautiful place with commanding views across the bay. It's an easy walk up from the coast and worth the effort. The main chapel is undergoing a major restoration so access is not permitted but the doors were open allowing you to see in. There are great views of the church and the bay from the steeply tiered Graveyard. Glad we made the journey.
IAN M — Google review
Absolutely stunning - we had a bit of a walk to the place from the winery but glad that we took the stairs down because like many Orthodox monasteries, this one is very well adorned. Additionally, they have a nice shop on-site with icons, wine, etc., so please do go and support them in that way. My quite a five star experience because the church was undergoing refurbishment and we could not do much but it is a very peaceful property and I was happy to see it.
Andrew M — Google review
It’s a Monastery/ Church so as a tourist place 3 stars, not attractive. But has non tourists value for people comming to pray.
Kamil N — Google review
Peaceful small monastery partly under construction. Ask if the museum is open if you like icons and get a bottle of wine from the nearby winery who can was associated with the monastery but isn’t now if I understand

Historical landmark
The Clock Tower, or Sahat Kula, stands proudly at the entrance to Herceg Novi's Old Town, a stunning 16-meter structure commissioned by Sultan Mahmud in 1667. This iconic landmark not only marks the gateway to the historic area but also serves as a symbol of the city, appearing on its flag and coat of arms. With its mechanical clocks adorning each side, it once chimed to signal daily Muslim prayers during Ottoman rule.
Maybe the most beautiful building in town, definitely in the best part of the city, the charming Old Town.
Ana S — Google review
The Old Town has been occupied by the Ottomans, the Albanians and the Venetians so the architecture is eclectic if not slightly bizarre. The 16 meter, Ottoman-esque clock tower is definitely one of the more bizarre additions added here on what was the main gate during Turkish rule. Regardless, it's a cool thing to see as many come to do, and well worth the steep walk up the many steps from the beach. Both sides of the clock tower, both inside the city walls and outside (Nikola Djurkovic Square) have many cafes and restaurants.

This is one of the most beautiful central places of the old town - a meeting place :) The perfect time for photos without people and tourists is 6/7am

Nestled along the stunning Adriatic coast, the Old Town of Herceg Novi is a captivating medieval fortress that invites visitors to explore its rich history and charming architecture. With narrow stone streets winding through the town, you'll discover picturesque plazas adorned with centuries-old churches. The iconic Clock Tower, dating back to the 17th century, stands proudly at the heart of this historic area alongside Kanli Kula Fortress, which not only offers breathtaking views but also serves as a cultural hub for summer events.
An impressive old town... very cute and small in size...with a church at the middle and small lanes with cafe/restaurants and stores.... there are few stores that are very old in this street...
Rafeeque A — Google review
It’s a very cute a small city center, the little church in the middle of the main square is a picturesque view. Maps are scattered all around and help you navigate, very nice touch. The only thing I did not like was the state in which the fortresses are kept, I would have expected more since they’re candidates to enter the UNESCO sites list. The parking is really difficult, since the only way to pay is through SMS, very difficult with an eSIM that only has internet (App was not working).
Greta&Ludo — Google review
Visited this town a couple of times. A coastal historic town with a beautiful small church up hillside. Spanish Fort further up plus another Fort near to coast. A walkway goes under a clock tower leading to nice plaza area. Good restaurants and bars within this town. If walk out of town going pass coastal Fort after 1 km arrive at another church set in peaceful grounds.
Steve D — Google review
Vibe is truly impressive, it feels like a little Italy. Surrounding, architecture are great. There are several pizzerias in front of the Clock Tower and if you walk down narrow street behind the square you will be passing by clothes shops and a mini market Voli
Filipp “ — Google review
Very quaint place. There are a couple of places to drink and eat in the main square. There's also a very small church in the square. I recommend Belavista. Less than €4 for a pint of Czech beer.
Nigel H — Google review
The Old Town of Herceg Novi is a hidden gem on the Montenegrin coast, offering a perfect blend of history, charm, and stunning sea views. Nestled on a hillside, the town is a maze of narrow stone streets, centuries-old buildings, and charming squares that tell the story of various civilizations—Ottoman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian—all of which left their mark on the architecture and atmosphere. The main square, Belavista, is the heart of the old town and features the beautiful St. Michael’s Church with its unique blend of styles. Climbing the Kanli Kula fortress rewards you with panoramic views over the Bay of Kotor, especially magical during sunset. The Clock Tower, built by the Turks in the 17th century, stands as one of the town’s most iconic landmarks and serves as a gateway to this historic core. What sets Herceg Novi apart is its authentic, less-touristy feel compared to nearby cities like Kotor or Budva. Local cafes, family-run restaurants, and art galleries add life without overcrowding. The stone stairways connecting the town to the coastline create a unique vertical experience. This is a place where history, tranquility, and coastal beauty meet. For travelers seeking culture with a view, Herceg Novi’s Old Town delivers.
Ammar A — Google review
Charming old city square, it is very small and that gives it special taste. In tourist periods must be crowded and may be even difficult to move around because of that.
Wielkopolanin — Google review
Definetly worth visiting 🥰 Less crowded than other tourist attractions in Kotor bay

Belavista Square, also known as Herceg Stjepan Square, is a charming stone-paved square in Herceg Novi. It can be reached from the main town square by walking up the stairs that lead through the towns clock tower. The square is surrounded by old stone buildings and features the unique neo-Byzantine styled St. Archangel Mihailo Church with Gothic and Romanesque details.
Fabulous, but surrounded by steps. Not good for people with mobility problems or sight impairment.
Patricia B — Google review
Nice place to have a meal , a cup of coffee or just some refreshment and watching daylilfe passing by. Many people visit the Serbian orthodox church that is on this square.
Bjørn S — Google review
Beautiful old town, just to look around and have a good time. I would love to have more vivid music or more people, it feels a little bit lonely, but in general you will find some options to eat, drink and have a good time.
Miriam G — Google review
We walked down from Kanli Kula and came across this square, it’s a small one and fairly quiet. Giving a different vibe than Kotor’s old town, less tourist makes you able to enjoy it relaxingly
J — Google review
Quiet, small and clear old town. There’s an art gallery near the church that’s in the center and is free so mine as well visit it. There are shops and cafes around.
Nicole R — Google review
Little cozy square with nice restaurants around. The surroundings are clean with nice buildings, a bit away from the most crowded areas.

Historical place museum
The museum House of the Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić is a charming and compact exhibit. The receptionist, known for her helpful and amiable nature, enhances the overall experience. However, it should be noted that the extensive use of Serbian Cyrillic script may hinder non-Serbian speakers from fully enjoying the museum's content. With an entrance fee of 4 euros, visitors are treated to a splendid view.
I didn’t entry, I just went past it, but I think it would be worth seeing it. Also, 4 euros for entry isn’t that much and is too much at the same time in my opinion.
Tijana — Google review
Lovely house of the Nobel Prize Ivo Andrić. He lived in this house with his wife a couple of year.
Tünde V — Google review
Beautiful little museum- an actual house where Ivo Andric lived with his wife Milica Babić for several years. Very welcoming museum curator, a kind lady told us a short story about the history of the house. Lovely 30 minutes to spend there. Entrance is 4 euro and there is no parking, so you need to park your car in a garage down the street 100m. Beautiful place to visit!
M R — Google review
We had amazing time visiting the house of Ivo Andrić! Such a great museum with extremely friendly staff

Nice place, please visit if you are nearby.Nice story about very important person in our history.Nice stuff.

Ticket price is 4 euros per person. There is not much to hear about it. No tour guide who will explain everything. But nice experience.
Maja — Google review
I loved this little museum, it's small but cosy! The woman on the reception is very helpful and friendly. The only downside for non-serbian speaking folks is that everything is written in serbian cyrilic...so since you have a lot to read inside, I guess for tourists it's not really enjoyable. Entry is 4 euros, and the view is great! 😊

Beach
Beach Topla is a public beach in Montenegro, featuring a cement beach with both paid sunbeds and a large free section. It's ideal for those who enjoy diving, searching for shells, and swimming among fish and crabs. The atmosphere is peaceful without loud music or singers, making it perfect for relaxation. Visitors can also find reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Additionally, the beach offers amenities such as toilets, showers, and lifeguards.
It is part of walking area``Pet danica`` and it is georgeous, so as the rest of the coast!
Maja S — Google review
Music is too loud, anoying and awfully picked. The kind of music they are playing does not fit the place. The beach misses much more ladders for entering and exiting the sea than it is provided. Changing booths should be washed off every morning because during the night people come and urinate in them. For beach visitors, hotel should provide a toilet at a certain spot.
Dusko L — Google review
Too loud and annoying music. Prices for chairs (€4) and umbrellas (€2) were okay though, compared to Herceg Novi beaches.

(Translated by Google) The sea is very clean, free of seaweed, slightly rocky, and the water is slightly cool. There's beautiful natural scenery between Herceq Novi and Kotor. The roads are generally single-lane and winding. It's best to avoid dusk on your return. Road lighting is almost non-existent, making nighttime travel a hassle, and the headlights of oncoming vehicles are daunting. There are no highways. If you're seeking an unforgettable adventure on the water, look no further than a boat ride that combines thrilling activities like wakeboarding and spearfishing with breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor. Picture yourself gliding across crystal-clear waters while expertly navigating your wakeboard, all under the guidance of a knowledgeable skipper who brings local history to life. The spacious speedboat ensures comfort as you travel between stunning spots like Budva and Sveti Stefan, where charming villages dot the coastline.
The tour was absolutely wonderful! We visited the Blue Cave, a private beach, Mamula, and Zanjice Beach. We also went snorkeling and wakeboarding, and they were amazing! You can even catch your own fish, and the barbecue afterward was simply the best. On top of that, the guide and his little dog were the perfect company. I truly recommend this experience!
Indi O — Google review
My partner and I had the most incredible day with Nebojša on his boat tour of the Bay of Kotor. To put it simply, the day was unreal. The speedboat itself was fantastic – fast, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious, making the journey between spots an absolute pleasure. What truly set this trip apart was Nebojša himself. We were blown away by his deep knowledge of the bay's history. He brought the stories of the charming villages and islands to life, which added a rich layer to the stunning scenery. It was like having a private historian and a skilled skipper in one! We visited several incredible spots, including the hauntingly beautiful Mamula island, but for us, the absolute highlight was visiting the sea cave. The experience of swimming in that brilliantly blue water was pure magic and the most fun we had. If you are thinking of a boat trip in Kotor, look no further. We cannot recommend Nebojša's tour enough. It was a perfect day, and we already want to go back. Our highest recommendations!!!

Absolutely fantastic experience! The wakeboarding was thrilling and well-managed, thanks to an amazing skipper who made everything smooth and enjoyable. The crew was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable, which really added to the overall fun. The scenery was gorgeous. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exciting and memorable day on the water with expert guidance.

Kayak Herceg Novi offers a variety of experiences for kayakers to explore the coastline, visit the charming village of Rose, and paddle to Mamula Island. Visitors can choose between guided tours or renting kayaks for independent exploration. Ljubo provides informative tours around the waters surrounding Herceg Novi, including an abandoned submarine tunnel and the nearby village of Rosa. He ensures a pleasant experience with dry bags for safe storage and accommodating communication for tour arrangements.
I rented a kayak from Ljubo for 7 days to travel around the entire bay in October 2024. I communicated with Ljubo 2 months before I arrived and he was very responsive. Upon arrival Ljubo had everything I needed for my trip, including a life vest, rope, dry bags and bonus back rest for my long journey. Ljubo impressed me with his professionalism, friendliness and honesty. Thank you for making my journey possible, Ljubo.

That's the centre of Herceg Novi. I think it's worth to visit this town but it can't compete with Perast or Kotor. But I liked sitting don at the Gradska Kavana with a view of Kotor Bay. If you want a proper luxury relaxing beach experience in the hight of summer then this is the place to go.
