1La Catrina Hostel and Breakfast

Hotel
La Catrina Hostel and Breakfast is a charming and budget-friendly accommodation nestled in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, just a short stroll from the historic center. This down-to-earth hostel features both basic dormitory options and private rooms, catering to solo travelers as well as groups of friends seeking comfort without breaking the bank. Guests can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast each morning, along with access to a shared kitchen for those who prefer to whip up their own meals.
My best experience in a hostel in Mexico. Many conveniences for each dorm bed to make it pleasant and secure. Good shower spaces (upstairs ones do not have cool fresh air entering!). Massive rooftop terraces with beach loungers. A sign said they will make a paid breakfast if you ask but they provide a light one for free. Very clean. Great mattress, great pillow, great staff. Family friendly. Child table, high chair.
Vic — Google review
Although their name is La Catrina Hostel and Breakfast, there is essentially no breakfast. Just coffee and sad white Bimbo toast. Some people had fruit but it was never offered to me. Fine, there a lots of amazing cafes in the area to explore, just don’t put Breakfast in the name of the hostel. Freezing cold showers and no real atmosphere. Only redeeming qualities are that the front desk staff are friendly, nice cleaning service and it’s in a good location.
Carly M — Google review
This hotel should not be allowed to host guests. I strongly advise others to stay away. We encountered unclear and concerning signs at the property and asked for an explanation. The response we received was vague, unrealistic, and disruptive. It did not clarify the situation at all, and we ultimately decided to leave the hostel for our own safety and peace of mind.
Greta C — Google review
We had a clean and spacious room. Shower had good water pressure. The hostel had a nice terrace to chill and hangout too. WiFi was decent even up there. Location was pretty decent - it was a comfortable walk to the main plaza, where most of the restaurants/eateries congregate around. For some cheap local food, we can recommend the gorditas and tamales from "Gorditas Doña Consuelo" (see Google Maps), which is a food stand that opens in the evenings. There is a complimentary breakfast that comes with our stay, but don't expect much, i.e. two pieces of toasted bread and jam, and a small plate of fruits. For those who need a more substantial breakfast, you can order additional dishes (e.g. chilaquiles) for a reasonable price - 60-70 MXN if I recall correctly.
Adelle E — Google review
My boyfriend and I were so impressed with this hostel. It is super clean and the rooms are comfy and cute. Great location and friendly staff. The photos surprisingly don’t look nearly as nice as it is in person. It’s one of the best hostel deals I have found.
Anh T — Google review
Got mixed feeling. Mostly because this hotel is very echo, with most of the bedrooms having a window on the hallway (ours was giving on the shared bathroom). We still got lucky as the hotel wasn’t too full, so it was mostly calm. But it wouldn’t take much for this place to became a real noisy nightmare. The included breakfast is also very basic : coffee, bread and cereals, that’s it. You will need to pay extra to get something more. But at the same time, it was clean, the location is very good, and the rooftop is pretty nice (even tough could enjoy a bit more furniture). And finally, the price was very good compare to a lot of other place in this city full of very expensive boutique hotels. So I guess you get what you pay for. If noise isn’t too much of a concern for you, go for it. Otherwise, maybe better to avoid.
Nicolas L — Google review
Pros. 1. Fairly quiet after 10 pm. 2. Good location 3. They offer complimentary breakfast. Cons. 1. Wifi is bad on the rooftop and rooms. 2. Toilet paper was out quiet often and they did not fill it for many hours. 3. Water pressure is low so toilets get dirty easily. 4. No side table for beds 5. No curtain or blinds for beds
Rio Z — Google review
The hostel is located on a lovely quiet road just 5 minutes away from the main square. The rooms and toilets were very clean. If you pay with cash you get free cooked breakfast

Nestled in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, Hostel Inn offers a charming and budget-friendly retreat for travelers seeking both comfort and community. Just a short stroll from the vibrant city center, this cozy hostel features simple yet inviting accommodations, including private rooms and dormitories. Guests can enjoy a communal kitchen for shared meals and an outdoor garden area perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
The lady at the front desk who is from Taxco was very friendly and helpful when I approached her about bus schedule, she answered my question thoroughly and we ended up having an 30 min long conversation about places to visit, her hometown etc. The backyard was very comfortable, the dorm and bathroom were clean, simple but filling free breakfast consists of pancake, coffee, tea. A very good hostel overall.
Gabriel Z — Google review
Staff are very kind & helpful. If you don’t speak any Spanish, use google translate. The place is very clean due to the hardworking cleaning ladies.
Cheryl S — Google review
The hostel is in a good location and reasonably clean. Staff is quite unfriendly. Mattresses in the dorm I was in are as thin as paper and incredibly worn out. From the dorm, you can hear almost everything that is going on in the hostel. There are no mosquito nets so rooms get full of mosquitos at night. Not worth the price you pay
Agnese P — Google review
This hostel is very clean. Has comfortable mattresses and nicely appointed rooms. Most rooms have large windows. There is a large backyard with grass and an open air kitchen with large dining room. It is well managed with a working on the premises thoughtful owner.
Rose D — Google review
It's pretty much your average, nice hostel. Prices are okay and rooms are clean. However, there are very little bathrooms for so many dorms. There are at least 4-8 people per bathroom so it can get very busy when waiting to take a shower in the morning.
Sebastian S — Google review
Online was no Option to make a reservation. So I called the hostel and booked a room for 2 People. When we arrived the next Day, this room was not available for us. The more we Had to Share 1 Toilet and 1 shower with the whole 1 floor which is too annoying. In the Morning at 8:30 they Play rancheros to wake every Body up. Would be a Nice place, but all those facts made it a no go.
Jonas — Google review
Budget, but cosy. I was in the 4bed dormitory at the front of the building, nice enough view makes up for the occasionally abrasive traffic on the street. Felt safe. Staff kind enough. Breakfast was substandard.
Matthew B — Google review
I left the hostel at 1:30pm when the check out was at 12:00. The lady at the reception on Sunday morning April 13 charged me an extra $100 pesos. The room was already cleaned as I dodnt actually sleep in the bed that night. Nobody was booked to be in that room either. Hostal La Catrina and Hostal Alkatraz are both far better options. Only one male bathroom for around 4 dorms. I had a very regretful experience due to the staff.

This wonderful boutique hotel surprised and amazed us during our very recent stay. We were visiting San Miguel as attendees of a massive wedding. The room was very comfortable and the staff was exceptional. The food at the hotel restaurant was amazing - to the point that we ate most meals there! Did I mention that the staff was amazing? We miss the hotel and will be back as repeat guests!

Here’s a polished version of your glowing hotel review in English: ⸻ Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. The staff were amazing—professional, friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind. They went above and beyond to make us feel completely at home. The hotel itself, as well as our room, was impeccably clean. The location couldn’t be better—just steps away from the main plaza, making it easy to explore the city. Our room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and equipped with every amenity we could have wished for. We especially appreciated the thoughtful turndown service and the constant supply of bottled water. Breakfast each morning was excellent and a perfect start to the day. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough—it truly exceeded all of our expectations.

From arrival to departure, our stay was fantastic! The hotel Is beautiful and the location is perfect. Elda and Ivan at the front desk were especially helpful and friendly, assisting in booking our transportation from/to the airport, booking excursions, tequila tasting, and recommending restaurants in the area. The rooms were gorgeous, the breakfast and dinner on site at Trazo were delicious. Housekeeping and grounds staff were excellent as well. Would definitely stay here for our next visit.
Amy S — Google review
This hotel is gorgeous! Service is outstanding - anything we needed they were able to help with, from arranging transportation, massages, walking tours and restaurant recommendations. The included breakfast was delicious, and so much food. We ate at the restaurant and the rooftop several evenings and everything we had was amazing. The views and ambiance and service were outstanding! I loved everything about this hotel didn't want to leave! We would stay here again if we return to San Miguel! The rooms were so pretty, and cool and quiet.

Exquisite, beautiful and finely crafted place! Second time visiting SMDA and what an experience. Front desk recommend Alan who surpassed our expectations in transportation and adventuring all over Guanajuato! Breakfast included was flavorful and fulfilling. Rooftop has greatviews!

We had an amazing experience at this hotel. It’s a work of art, the common areas, the room and rooftop are amazing. The food was delicious and the service was first class. We will definitely return!

This was my 3rd stay and it is still just a fabulous stay and experience. Beautifully appointed and fantastic staff. The breakfasts are incredible too!
Lindsay C — Google review
We had four excellent nights at this lovely hotel in the middle of San Miguel de Allende. The location is perfectly convenient to walking to everything you want to see. The hotel itself is beautiful…modern rooms, a great fireplace/bar, a beautiful full service restaurant, and a great rooftop. The service is also outstanding. We were greeted and attended to by Christopher who went out of his way to ensure our comfort and convenience, always in a caring and considerate way. The maid service was also great helping make the stay very comfortable. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting SMA. This is the place to stay…

With its inviting atmosphere and unique character, La Casa del Abuelo stands out for its cleanliness and friendly ambiance.
We stayed a a very expensive 300 dollar hotel 1 night but the next night we stayed here because we were leaving at 3 am and we loved it. It's clean and safe close to mercado where there are fresh fruit green juices delicious for 40 pesos 2 dollars. It's perfect if you just need a place to take a shower and rest your feet. 28 dollars wow. There was no tv, but we didn't need a tv because we were leaving at 3 am, and we were out in night walking around. But it was clean .

Nestled in the vibrant heart of San Miguel de Allende, Lool Beh Hostal is a delightful retreat just a short stroll from iconic landmarks like the historic museum and the stunning Church of St. Michael the Archangel. This charming hostel offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for socializing, where guests can unwind and connect over shared experiences. The owner, along with her two adorable dogs, creates a warm and welcoming environment that encourages camaraderie among travelers.
I really liked this hostal, it’s about 15 min walk from the main church in San Miguel de Allende in a pretty and safe neighborhood. They have a space to cowork and a place where the guests can gather, they even have some cards to play. The hosts are really nice and have really nice dogs, I really enjoyed my stay!
Aranzazú V — Google review
Lool hostel is about a 15 min walk toward the centro. Wear comfortable shoes because all the streets in SMA are cobblestone. Breakfast was simple: fruit, yogurt, toast, cereal, and coffee. Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable, although I think the pillows could have been of better quality. The room was a bit stuffy, but opening up the windows and doors helped. They have 2 dogs on the property and they were very well behaved. I enjoyed my stay and would come again.
Natalie M — Google review
Literally the best hostel I've been to, everything is super clean and organized, everything nicely arranged, nice outdoor sitting area, nice upstairs sitting area, 2 very cute dogs, the owner was super nice and helpful, the kitchen has everything you need, good breakfast, even though there is only 1 bathroom in each floor is definitely enough for the people that stay there (only 2 dorms with 4 people each). Loved it and would love to come back some day!
Nina D — Google review
Beautiful house, very kind host, Daniela helped us with any question we had. The kitchen is very well equipped. The place is clean and stylish. The only thing that was missing is a comfort chairs and table to eat. We were 4 and there wher only 3 stools for the bar. The neighborhood is beautiful, but far from the center, yo should walk 30 minutes. The walk is not so nice, along the big noisy main road. Yo can use public transportation, but in the period we visited there were constructions in the main junction.
Einat T — Google review
Lool Beh is a really great place to go if you're looking for a nice, friendly, social hostel vibe. The owner and her two dogs are so nice and pleasant to be around, and I think the hostel attracts the kind of guests that are interested in sitting around and chatting in the evenings. The beds were comfortable and each have their own power outlets, the wifi is good (I had some work meetings while I was there and had no issues), and the breakfast and coffee was basic but good. It's a bit far from the center, but there's a bus that passes literally right in front of the hostel that will drop you off next to the main square. I totally recommend Lool Beh!
Tyler L — Google review
This place is great. Super homely, great continental breakfast, lovely host, comfy bed and the cutest dogs. A little out of town, but a bus which stops directly outside of the hostal gets you straight into Centro. Quiet in the week, if you are looking for some R&R. Recommend 100%.
Hope W — Google review
Although the house was pretty and clean and the receptionist very friendly, we were not quite happy with our stay. Toilet and shower were in one room (just one each)and shared with all the other guests which made it a bit complicated to enter as it was almost occupied all the time. Also, there was no water in 2 of 4 days due to roadworks. We expected some little recompense for this which did not happen also, because the receptionist accidentally booked 19000 instead of 1900 from our credit card which probably would have stayed unnoticed if we had not seen it + a long waiting time until the manager arrived to reverse the mistake, we expected something in exchange for the inconvenience, but unfortunately no effort was made. The location was quite close to the center, although the way to walk there is quite uncomfortable as there is no sidewalk and the way very uneven. If the service would be a bit better, the place could be really nice as the building was hacienda like and quite pretty.
Janina S — Google review
Booked for 2 nights in advance. We arrived late at night and the hostel is far outside the center. Apparently they cancelled the reservation, but they only sent an email from a private account that went to my spam folder. They did NOT cancel with the booking partner or refund my initial deposit. The woman at the front desk at first tried to say that we were at the wrong location, and then wouldn’t let us in past the front gate. No English, so we were arguing through a gate in the street with my limited Spanish. I’ve had similar situations at other hostels but usually the staff is kind and lets you in and assists with finding another place. This was a really horrible experience. Instead save your time and money and stay at La Catrina in Centro.

Hotel Meson Amelia & Sam B&B is a charming urban art hostel in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. With 9 cozy rooms, a rooftop terrace, and a vibrant cafe, it offers a personal and memorable stay. The emphasis here is on genuine experiences without unnecessary extravagance. Guests praise the spotless rooms and delicious breakfast prepared by the owner. The location is ideal for exploring the city center without being disturbed by noise.
I'm beyond happy that I chose to stay here. I was a bit nervous to do a solo trip in México, but Sam and his team made me feel at home. The place is well located. It's walkable to the center, but far enough to sleep peacefully. If I'm ever back in town, I will definitely stay here again.
Adilene — Google review
I recently had a very disappointing experience at Meson Amelia. The listing stated that breakfast was included in the stay, but upon arrival I was told it was not and was asked to pay an additional 200 pesos. When I tried to discuss this issue calmly, the host became aggressive and confrontational, which left me feeling uncomfortable and unsafe. Shortly after, the property updated their listing to add conditions to the breakfast policy—suggesting it had been misleading when I booked. Instead of owning the mistake, the host did everything he could to deny responsibility, including misrepresenting to the agent from Hostelworld assigned to my support ticket. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. I can also corroborate comments left by others regarding cramped space, uncomfortable beds, and non-functioning shower. Definitely be aware of hidden charges if you can't avoid a stay there. Update: The property continued to falsely claim that the rate I selected did not include breakfast, as shown in their reply to my review. I presented to the host a screenshot of the booking confirmation showing the inclusion of breakfast, which he chose to ignore. The 'continental breakfast' offered to me was not a full breakfast, which the host insisted would be an extra 200 pesos. The property clearly does not want to acknowledge an error has been made in the listing and does not want to do right by the guest, which is truly a shame.
Sophia J — Google review
This is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. The staff cleans the rooms regularly so the entire place is so spotless, you could eat off the floor. And you might want to if you accidentally drop any of your delicious breakfast delicately prepared by the owner himself. I enjoyed my stay here so much, I extended multiple times. The location is great since it’s very close to the center. It’s not on a busy street so you won’t be woken up by parades, people, or traffic. But the star of the show is Sam. He is the most kind, hospitable hostel host. He really cares about the guests and takes time to understand their stories showing everyone so much compassion. He really goes out of his way to take care of the guests. I can not recommend this place enough!!!
Ebonee H — Google review
Highly recommend this place, don’t hesitate! The owner, Sam, is one of a kind — he goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels at home. The place is beautiful in a quiet street close enough to the action but far enough away that you can get a good night sleep. Breakfast is delicious; the rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. You get a lot of value for your stay here. Book this place and you won’t regret it! Huge thank you to Sam for everything!

Our cooking class with Chef Sam in San Miguel de Allende was awesome! It was held at his cozy bed and breakfast. Sam was super friendly and taught us a lot about cooking. We made three delicious dishes and learned cool cooking tricks. He also told us interesting stories about the dishes and how he mixes French technique with Mexican recipes. It was like going on a tasty adventure! We loved learning from Sam and trying new foods (and drinks!). If you're ever in San Miguel de Allende, I totally recommend taking his cooking class. It's fun and you'll learn a lot!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Meson Amelia. It is extremely clean and the shower is big and the beds are very comfortable. I felt welcomed straight away and the complimentary breakfast is super yummy. There is a large roof top on the third floor where I liked to do yoga in the mornings. The location is great as it is quiet for sleeping but still has restaurants and cafes close by plus only a short walk into the main square. I fully and gratefully enjoyed my stay at Meson Amelia! The host, Sam, is super helpful and knowledgeable about San Miguel de Allende. The breakfast was delicious :-) My nights were very restful and the environment is beautiful and peaceful! Only a 10 minute walk to zona centro and less than a five minute walk to Fabrica La Aurora. Would highly recommend staying here! The price for what you get is unbeatable. Thanks for accommodating me!!!

The Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel is a stunning 17th-century church with striking pink spires and an elaborate sanctuary. Its neo-Gothic design gives it the appearance of a small cathedral, making it a captivating sight in the heart of the city. The vibrant coral-colored walls and triangular spires add to its dreamy allure, attracting photographers, artists, and visitors seeking unique experiences.
The architecture is amazing. Go at night and during the day to experience it and the surroundings in different ways. Head inside to find some solace from the hustle and bustle of the world outside.

Simply amazing church. Reminded me a bit of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Numerous photo ops around the plaza. Lots of people lots of fun!

Just a beautiful parroquia (cathedral) to see in San Miguel de Allende. You don’t have to be catholic to appreciate the beauty and design of this church. You’ll see it from all around town. It’s the center of town for a reason and admired and appreciated by all her residents. Highly recommend.

Simply breathtaking church, With such rich history. Day or night its a spectacle. So many shops, delicious eateries and music in the area. Loved every minute. Felt safe the entire time. Wear comfortable, rubber sole or traction shoes because the terrain (cobblestone) is rough outside of the plaza.

The enormous warehouse features numerous galleries representing diverse art forms such as pottery, textiles, and home decor. Visitors can also explore the shops within the complex, including Pineda Covalin offering colorful silk scarves and shawls, Cerroblanco Joyeria with fashionable jewelry incorporating gems and masterful metal work.
I was blown away by how gorgeous this place is! You can stroll through different galleries, sometimes meet the artists and have a chat with them. The sunny courtyards are just as beautiful! Being able to have coffee and a light meal while sorting out impressions at the end of our visit was excellent.

Fantatstic art and antiques galley. We walked there and back from the plaza in Centro. So many eye popping displays. I snapped these images before I realized they ask for no photos throughout. I feel like these images do not egregiously snub that request. I discovered many things. I discovered a few art classes and a new artist I will be following. Well worth a return!

This vibrant hotel features colorful accommodations that invite relaxation after a day spent wandering the picturesque cobblestone streets. Guests can indulge in delicious meals at the on-site restaurant or unwind with stunning views from the rooftop bar, which offers an unparalleled perspective of the cityscape both day and night.
My parents had a great stay in San Miguel! They loved the hotel, decor, and especial thanks to Janett at the front desk! She was super friendly and efficient and helped them a lot. They had an amazing time visiting family in Mexico. They stayed in the room 103, only complain they had was the bathroom had a light smell but nothing enough to be bothering. Generally highly recommend! 5/5 stars!

Very disappointing experience. Location is great but at the same time you will listen ti “cuetes” at 6:50in the morning that sounds like gunshots. Be aware of that if you want to sleep until late . Expedia website says there is parking available, but there is not. The valet they recommend charge you $500 per night. Room smell like humidity , they also need maintenance. There is no air-conditioning only fans. We were supposed to stay three nights, but we only stayed two.

I stayed at the Selina in SMA in July 2025. It is a BEAUTIFUL hotel- very clean, quiet, and right in the heart of the city. I stayed in two rooms: one on the upper floors and one on the ground floor next to the front desk. Both were excellent but I definitely preferred the upstairs room for the beautiful views out the hallway windows! At the end of my trip, I ended up falling and breaking my ankle, and after a 24-hr hospital stay, I spent one more night in the hotel before flying back to the States. The hotel staff were able to change my room for that one night from the upstairs floor (there are no elevators, only stairs) to the ground floor one for no additional charge. A kind staff member brought all my things from the upstairs room down to the ground floor room so I could pack. The two women at the front desk Jeanette and Fernanda were also fantastic! They were able to recommend places to go and help me with tours as a solo traveler. My trip in Mexico was incredible and was in large part because of this hotel and its staff! Millones de gracias a todos y espero regresar lo antes posible! Abrazos!

I made the reservation for my parents. They're a lovely older couple who don’t know much about technology or Spanish, but they were really excited to visit San Miguel! I didn’t give 5 stars because they had a couple of issues with the room, but I still wanted to take the time to write this because the staff was amazing. Special shoutout to the sweet lady at the entrance, Jeanette. She was so kind to them and spoke English perfectly! My dad is French, and his English is a little quirky, but to their surprise, Jeanette could even speak French with him! I’m really grateful to her for taking such good care of my parents. Thank you so much!

⭐ 3/5 – Excellent Location, Amazing Rooftop Restaurant, but Inconsistent Service My friend and I stayed at Selina San Miguel de Allende from Sept 5–8 for my birthday. While the location and rooftop restaurant were definite highlights, the check-in experience and room maintenance left a lot to be desired. 🗺️ Arrival & First Impressions The hotel is located right in the heart of the city, which is perfect for exploring. That said, it’s not accessible by car, so we had to park a bit away and walk with our luggage — not a huge deal for us, but clear communication and better service could’ve really helped. We tried calling Selina multiple times for help, but no one answered. Ironically, staff from a different hotel (where we parked by mistake) were incredibly kind — even calling Selina on our behalf. The Selina staff member who answered was unhelpful and abrupt, and didn’t provide any clear instructions. No effort was made to contact us back or offer support, even though we had an active reservation. 🛏️ Room Experience Our original room had no windows and felt like a dungeon — nothing like the photos we saw while booking. After seeing how friendly and welcoming other hotels nearby were (even offering to show us their rooms with no obligation), we returned to Selina feeling disappointed. Luckily, when we came back that evening, a different front desk staff member was working. She was polite, professional, and clearly cared. After checking availability with her manager, she upgraded us to a better room right away — no delay, no hassle. Only after showing us the room did I mention it was my birthday, and she genuinely seemed happy to have helped make the experience better. Her attitude and effort made a big difference. 🧼 Cleanliness & Maintenance • Conditioner pump was broken • Shampoo was thin and watery • Toilet wasn’t cleaned properly during the entire stay • Water dispenser in the hallway was empty for two full days • A used Q-tip sat on the ground by it and was never removed • Bed and pillows were extremely firm and uncomfortable That said, housekeeping did tidy our room daily and left us two sealed water bottles each day. It would’ve been nicer if they were chilled in the fridge. 🍽️ Rooftop Restaurant – Best Part of the Stay The restaurant on the rooftop of Selina was phenomenal — delicious food, great cocktails, beautiful views, and excellent service. The difference in professionalism and warmth between the restaurant staff and the front desk was night and day. The restaurant team really made my birthday dinner special and left us with a great final impression. ⸻ Would I stay again? Maybe — the location is unbeatable and the rooftop is amazing, but the front desk service is hit or miss, and the rooms need better attention to detail. If Selina invested more into hospitality and consistency, this could easily be a 4 or 5-star stay.
Sean H — Google review
The location is terrific, the hotel is not. The room I'm in is absolutely spartan. No dresser, no closet , cracked floors but okay. I wasn't going to the 4 Seasons. I get it. I'm even willing to overlook the random drops of water that come down from the ceiling every now and then in the bathroom. But I am not willing to forgive the lack of a shower. Yes, the room has one but as I write this it's not working. In fact, the whole building has no water for anyone to bathe. When I asked reception would I be getting at least a discount since I'm paying for a room with a shower that currently doesn't have one. I waa told no. DO NOT STAY HERE. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP.

Selina is a beautiful hotel in the middle of town. There is a lovely restaurant and rooftop bar with great views of the city and the cathedral. Very friendly service and front desk staff is helpful.

We arrived today and the hotel exceeded our expectations. The customer service is phenomenal, Jose at the front desk is very helpful, we needed additional services and he helped us find them right away! The Mercado de Artesanías in San Miguel de Allende is a vibrant artisan market offering a wide array of handcrafted goods. Visitors can explore stalls filled with hand-embroidered shawls, decorative pottery, silver jewelry, textiles, toys, hats, clothing, and rugs. The market is not just about shopping; it's also a culinary experience with sweetcorn snacks and homemade salsa or mole sauce to sample.
We had a lot of fun walking the Mercado. Lots of jewelry. Small gifts and homemade gifts. It's beautiful. The people are very nice and welcoming. They have boots they are not expensive. If my suitcase wasn't so heavy I would have bought a pair.

This is a HUGE market in San Miguel de Allende. We had a fantastic shopping experience and it's one market that should not be missed. Everything from meals to wheels are sold here. The produce was fresh, there were hats, shoes, clothing, pottery, jewelry, light fixtures, and trinkets of all shapes and sizes. The vendors were kind and not 'pushy' in any way. If you're a visitor to SMA, this is a stop for you. Even as a resident, you will find some terrific bargains.

Julie G — Google review
This place is great. Lots of interesting stores, crafts, and vendors of all kinds. .Very helpful store owners. At the top level there is a very nice market for buying fresh produce. Also, some great juice and sandwich restaurants (right there on the edge of the produce) the sit down food court area is more hit or miss. Or at least in my experience.
Kevin M — Google review
Beautiful place — very nice atmosphere. You’ll find an eclectic assortment of arts from across Mexico. The market itself is spotless and very well maintained. Prices, however, vary quite a bit from shop to shop, often depending on whether you’re a local or a foreigner — which is to be expected. I’ve found that certain items can be 40–50% cheaper in the outskirts of the artisanal markets, depending on what you’re looking for. The vendors are mostly very agreeable and helpful

We had a very upsetting experience with ETN turistar. The website got our return destination wrong (it duplicated the journey to go from our initial destination to SMA instead of giving us a return ticket to go back to our initial destination). When getting to the bus station, we had to wait 3 hours and we were even ask to pay extra to change our tickets. No compensations, no acknowledgment. The service and the website definitely need improvement. Be careful if you are willing to travel with them.

Location, price! Were my first check list points that I was looking for on my trip to San Miguel. I was very impressed by the bed accommodations, it’s rare on trips that I take where the bed is Amazingly comfortable. 🏠🏠🏠So it’s a yes yes n yes. Communication is the key and the staff was very responsive to any concerns or questions I had with my stay. Loved the hostel! Great staff and easy to change the dates of a reservation due to some change of plans. You are in the middle of everything in SMA when staying here.
Michelle M — Google review
It was 3:00 a.m, the music is playing loud outside. We are 3 people sitting in the common area having a beer and chatting in a very low voice. Then an old man whose name is Manuel comes out of the darkness and tell us we have to go to sleep, because we’re sitting in ( the outdoor Common area) ; closes at 10:30 p.m. Are you kidding me ? I am at a hostal, not at an orphanage, for an old man to come tell me what to do, or when to sleep. Also don’t hire old people for night shifts. This is my worst hostal experience. It is like someone is watching you , and giving you orders when to sleep. So I Pay money 💰 for someone to control my peace of mind. I don’t recommend this place, and can’t wait to check out in the morning and change this hostal.

Hotel Carmina is a charming hotel housed in a historic 1700s building, offering cozy traditional rooms and featuring a lovely courtyard restaurant and bar. Once you reserve you cannot cancel even though a month before my arrival date I think this is a rip off ridiculous service And unhuman I do not advise no one to reserve in that place
Malek A — Google review
Although considered a 2-star hotel, it was a nice hotel. Rooms are on the ground floor past the restaurant, with additional rooms on the second floor. There is no elevator but the staff helps you with your luggage. The front desk staff and housekeeping provided excellent, friendly, and helpful service. My room (#7) was on the second floor, which had a king bed, was clean and spacious, and the window overlooked the courtyard restaurant. I liked that the door had an extra lock mechanism, which made me feel safe. My only issues were regarding the safe and shower. The safe was difficult to use and I needed assistance 2x, first because I couldn't set up a password and second because it stopped working due to a battery falling out inside the safe. There is no barrier separating the shower and bathroom floor, so sometimes the water would puddle and spread over to the bathroom floor. It also took some time for the hot water to come on during the first use and the stream wasn't too strong/powerful. The hotel is next to the Parroquia, so expect to hear the constantly ringing bells throughout the day and night. If that is an issue for you, I don't recommend this hotel. If it isn't, know it's in a prime location by the Parroquia and El Jardín.
Perla A — Google review
This was within 1/2 block of the center of town. Right next door to the cathedral. Yes, you hear church bells in the morning. Nice rooms and surrounded by some great restaurants. Three block walk to the two open markets in town. People were very friendly. We were there for Dia De Los Muertos. Which was a wonderful experience in itself. Very safe downtown at night.
Bo T — Google review
Large group, made a reservation several months ago, received the most expensive rate, checked online sites and found 40% cheaper. Rooms in the old section are small. The most annoying thing is the noise, 6am and the kitchen starts working, music, talking. Terrible. The staff attitude isn't very helpful, rooms available and they refuse to change us. Very basic amenities. Location doesn't justify not being able to sleep. NEVER STAY HERE. management has no criteria, they think they can treat guests horribly because of their location.
Santiago T — Google review
Great hotel in an old sort of palazzo, great high ceiling rooms, very spacious bath and shower area. Gorgeous patio with a restaurant that is covered but also very open where at times there is a violinist playing. Breakfast was included though provided towards back of hotel fronting the street behind it. Would definitely ho back. Right next to the gorgeous cathedral de San Miguel Arcangel

Don’t recommend this place. I booked for one night with breakfast and I didn’t get the breakfast. I booked directly at the hotel site and the receptionist mentioned breakfast was only available for those who booked thru Booking or Expedia. In addition there was no hot water for the shower, only cold water. Also the employees speak very loud so it’s difficult to rest. It’s a pity. Place is nice but the service is terrible!!!!

San Miguel de Allende Ciudad Paraíso Patrimonio de la Humanidad is a World Heritage site known for its stunning baroque architecture and vibrant artistic scene. From grand art galleries to small artist workshops, the city is alive with creativity. Festivals are a common occurrence, with the colorful Desfile de los Locos carnival in June being a highlight. The city's religious and civil architecture can be observed throughout its squares, streets, gardens, and more.
(Translated by Google) A small city, where for many there is not much, and maybe it is true; but walking through its streets and being a place where I'm sure I can walk through its streets without any fear of something, is the best for me. Its main square is very special, morning, afternoon and night, where you will find different nuances at each hour of the day, masses, tamales and atole in the mornings. Weddings, heat and spectacular sunsets. And at night you will find an illuminated parish with such a beautiful glow, with that wonderful view next to the mariachis playing their magnificent Mexican songs; and where you will see children running, couples walking and a full moon illuminating such a beautiful square.

(Translated by Google) I really liked the city center at night. I was only able to visit it at 11 p.m., but I was amazed; it felt like a fairy tale. It felt very safe, and I was told it was safe to walk around at night in that area. Very pleasant. The city is expensive, but beautiful. I feel like it's worth the money to visit. (Original) Me gustó muchísimo el centro de noche, solo lo pude visitar a las 11pm pero quedé maravillada, parece cuento de hadas. (Translated by Google) Pretty city. The streets are clean and green. But it's a very expensive city: parking is 40-50-60 pesos per hour, and the following minutes are billed by the hour. There's a lot of dishonesty. My ticket was for 12:12, I came back at 1:08, and the girl at the reception desk charged me 80 pesos, yelling that the meter was wrong. Other customers at the reception desk were also angry about their shenanigans. You can find 40 pesos for the day elsewhere, like in Querétaro. When I mentioned this in a nearby parking lot, the guy replied: "Well, go back to Querétaro!" A taco costs 100 pesos; in other cities, it's around 30 pesos. A small scoop of ice cream costs 50 pesos, instead of 35 pesos for a generous serving. Souvenirs are exorbitantly priced, multiplied by 3!

I simply cannot say enough nice things about the Five Queens Hotel. It’s a beautiful property, centrally located in the heart of SMDA. The staff here treat you so well- like family. The rooms are spotless and the women who work here really care about maintaining the property clean and smelling good. We stayed in the Americano room which has a balcony and it was so nice having that access. Would one hundred percent stay here again.

I recently stayed at Hotel Five Queens, and my experience was perfect from start to finish. The hotel itself is beautiful, with clean and comfortable rooms, with great wifi if you’re working remotely. I want to give a special thank you to Omar, Juan Pedro, and Alejandro, who worked at reception and went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect. His attentiveness and warm hospitality made us feel right at home. I’d also like to recognize Carmen, who served breakfast each morning with a friendly smile and great attention to detail. She allowed us to sample some of the special treats and salsas they had prepared, and they were all so delicious. Rosie who helped clean our room was incredibly helpful and kind, always checking in on us daily. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a comfortable stay with above and beyond service!

We had the best experience during our stay at the Five Queens Hotel Boutique in San Miguel de Allende, and I can’t recommend this place enough! It’s perfectly situated just a short walk from the vibrant mercado de Artesanías, making it incredibly convenient for shopping and immersing ourselves in local culture. Being only three blocks away from the main Plaza allowed us to easily explore the heart of the city, enjoying everything from its stunning architecture to charming cafés and lively street performances. The service at the hotel was truly exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and catered to our every need. The rooms in this establishment radiate a sense of freshness and tranquility, making them a true haven for guests. Each space is meticulously maintained, showcasing an impressive level of cleanliness that invites relaxation and peace of mind. We can’t wait to return!!

Stayed at this Hotel the first week it was open! Super close to the mercado of Artesanías and only 3 blocks from the main Plaza! Service was great and rooms had A/C which was huge since we caught a heat wave those days! Rooms were new and had everything we needed. Breakfast was also free which helped a bunch since we were a party of 5! Definitely going back!

Casa Arum is a 4-star hotel located in San Miguel de Allende, close to attractions like Sanctuary of Atotonilco and Las Monjas Temple. The hotel offers free WiFi, a terrace, concierge service, and a tour desk for guests. Guests have praised the accommodating staff and delicious breakfast at the rooftop seating area with city views. Although the rooms are described as slightly smaller than expected, they come with amenities like complimentary bottled water and in-room coffee.
We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it! The rooms are very clean and modern, and the staff is helpful and friendly. You can communicate with them via what’s app if you need anything. There’s complimentary breakfast which tastes like a home cooked meal by Miriam. They have coffee, orange juice, fruit with yogurt and granola, chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and huevos divorcados. All are delicious. If you arrive before check in they can hold your bags for you. Since it’s quite a trek downhill / stairs, we called Ubers or taxis from the hotel to bring us closer into town.

Amazing rooms. All the Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are HUGE for San Miguel Allende's standards. You would NOT expect such a beautiful room inside this building. The terrace works as a breakfast place, accessible to anyone even after the breakfast is served. Afternoons are so calm on that terrace. I think it is a romantic spot if you come with a S.O. I LOVED IT!

I had a wonderful stay here at Casa Arum. I can't say enough good things about the staff. Everyone was so accommodating and wonderful. The breakfast is so good and it's so filling!! And there is a wonderful rooftop seating area that you can sit and relax in.and see the views of the city. Breakfast is served out there on the weekends also. The rooms are a bit smaller than I thought they would be but it's fine. You get free bottled water daily, and coffee in the room to enjoy. The location is good. It's a bit up the hill which makes for a beautiful view. It's a 15 min walk to El Centro which isn't bad at all. You can also take an Uber if you don't wanna walk up and down hills, and Uber might run you between $2-5USD. There are also numerous green taxis (they are verified) and I think they take you anywhere in town for 80 pesos. There are some small corner stores nearby if you need to buy some water or juice or soda or a little snacks, there's a wonderful small little restaurant across the street where this lady sells carnitas; you can get a delicious torta for 35 pesos. There's also a restaurant that's only about a 2-minute walk that is popular. All in all I would recommend Casa Arum for sure.

Gorgeous finishings throughout the entire property, luxury linens, bedding, sumptuous high end products in washroom, massive room with the most gorgeous furniture, hot shower, incredible water pressure. The outdoor deep tub is absolute luxury & do romantic. Eyesha & Brenda made our stay absolutely memorable & beyond any & all expectation. Restaurants, nightlife, stores are all a brief walk or Uber away. We will be lifetime clients of Casa Arum!!!

The staff is absolutely amazing. Very patient and very helpful. I didn’t know the language, but there are very understanding. And helpful. Even though it’s not walking distance to the square, it was a great experience to walk and see the town. It is a beautiful place. The staff is very helpful to get you a ride if you need it. Breakfast is amazing, an awesome cook! The view is amazing on the top! You can see the town below and enjoy the view! You also are right there when they have the street festivities! Take the time to visit this place! You won’t be disappointed! Ask and communicate with the team. They will make sure your stay is worth it! Thank you Casa Arum!

I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Arum this past week. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The young woman who was at the checkin desk on the evening of 12/25 was very attentive and kind. The room was large and very clean. The bed squeaked a little but it was very comfortable. The location is about a 20 minute walk from the centro, but if you take side streets the walk wont disappoint. It is also located just steps from el midador which is a kind of cliff side that overlooks the entire city. The views are breathtaking. As an added bonus, a small carnitas spot is located just minutes from Casa Arum which was very delicious. Overall I had a very enjoyable experience at Casa Arum and I would highly recommend staying there.

Casa Arum: A 5-Star Gem in San Miguel de Allende At Casa Arum, we discovered more than just a place to stay; we found a sanctuary that beautifully blended the comfort of an Airbnb with the luxury of a boutique hotel. The decor was a feast for the eyes, offering a lovely and unique look that made our stay exceptionally pleasant, even if the bed was a touch softer than we prefer. The staff's warmth and accommodating nature shone brightly, especially in the mornings, complemented by a delightful lady who served up delicious breakfasts. Their rooftop, an oasis of calm, became our favorite retreat for relaxation and morning meals, boasting views that soothed the soul. Casa Arum's prime location meant we were never far from the heart of San Miguel de Allende. The city's most beloved landmarks were within a leisurely 20-minute walk or a quick 10-minute drive, placing us right in the pulse of this vibrant city without sacrificing tranquility. What truly set Casa Arum apart was the sense of autonomy and homeliness it offered, making it feel less like a hotel and more like a home. From the freedom to plan our day to the cozy, inviting spaces, every moment here felt tailored to our comfort and convenience. For anyone seeking a blend of home's warmth with the thoughtful touches of a hotel, Casa Arum in San Miguel de Allende is the perfect choice. It’s a testament to hospitality that caters to both the heart and the senses. #HomeAwayFromHome #SanMiguelGem

Casa Chuparrosa is located in the historic neighborhood of San Miguel de Allende, just a few steps from La Casona Convention. The hostel offers good value for money and boasts a hidden entrance that adds to its charm. Guests also appreciate the cleanliness of the place and enjoy spending time on the lovely terrace sipping drinks.

(Translated by Google) The price quality is excellent. The experience was not so much: the landlord entered the house at midnight, without prior notice or knocking on the door, in a state of intoxication. We were only women and we were obviously uncomfortable with this lack of privacy and respect for our space, we asked him to leave. To our surprise, the next day we found him on the terrace drinking with the kids who rented the second floor, how cool. I don't recommend it.

(Translated by Google) To start, it seems to me that this place is sold with lies. I booked a room asking if it had its own bathroom, the owner answered yes, but it was not true (I attach the image). The place is extremely dirty, too dirty, I have never been in such a disastrous place (I also attach the photographs). The sheets and blankets were very dirty and smelled very bad. One of the quilts had blood on it. The pillowcases were greasy. In the room there were a lot of towels that smelled very bad. In its booking profile it also mentions that it has parking, which does not exist. The place is really uncomfortable. I insist that the information in your profile is false, because it is not clear to you if you are booking a hotel, a house or a hostel. On previous trips I have stayed in hostels and I have never had such an unpleasant experience as in this place. Finally, the owner returned part of the reservation money to me so that I wouldn't comment badly on his profile. I get the impression that he does the same with other tenants so that they rate him well. The place is really a deception, you should not consider staying here for anything in the world. Later, I am surprised that they want to charge me "for yelling at the owner", which I did not do. I really had a very unpleasant experience.

This hotel in a historic building is amazing. Everything from the cantera door trim to the amazing lemon ginger seltzer drinks they delivered to my room was spectacular. The style and decor was elegant and classic with modern touches. Showers were hot and great pressure. Pillows and linens super nice. The service was impeccable. The ambiance was really chill and hospitable, and also trendy, and just all around pleasant vibes, within walking distance to everything. Staff had great recommendations for places to visit and things to do. The cost was fair. We were a couple traveling sans kids. I will definitely recommend and would stay again. We visited our friends at all the other big name hotels in centro SMA and this hotel was definitely as good for a better price.

Historical landmark
UNESCO - Antigüo Hospital Real de San Rafael is a baroque architectural marvel located in the charming city of San Miguel de Allende, recognized as a World Heritage Site. The area boasts a vibrant artistic scene with numerous art galleries and workshops. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere, especially during the frequent festivals such as the colorful Desfile de los Locos held in June.
This is the keystone historic area which gave San Miguel de Allende a UNESCO world-heritage site registry--as it is the original entrance of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro - the Inland Royal Road - here since 1546 when formal plans for the Camino Real were put to action in order to reach the huge silver finds to the North in Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí states. This is the real Western Boundary of the Historic District of San Miguel de Allende according to the Royal Decrees which established the rivers on the western side of towns being established on the Royal Road. This is the reason the first street in the Historic District is named "Saint Peter Street" -- Calle San Pedro. A short North/South street that used to be the edge of town by forested areas near the flowing clear waters of the river Cachinches--before urbanization and climate change largely disappeared this indispensable source of water which was a prehispanic riparian habitat for over a thousand years.
