El Petit Four is a charming bakery in San Miguel de Allende, known for its delightful selection of cakes, brownies, and bonbons. The openly gay chef Paco Cardenas runs the establishment and offers custom-designed erotic cakes upon request. Additionally, El Petit Four provides highly informative cooking classes led by the charismatic Cardenas. Since 1998, this gourmet pastry shop has been delighting visitors with delicious treats such as pan au chocolat and almond-filled croissants.
A wonderful French pastry restaurant. The giant filled croissants are amazing. The court yard is open to the elements and has small birds coming in to eat the crumbs on the floor. The ornamental water feature adds a restful sound to the ambiance. I always take an almond croissant to go.

We stumbled upon this place by just walking the streets, my wife and I loved it! The plates are small but delicious, the prices are fare. My wife had the "2-baked eggs in tomato sauce with poblano pepper strips", and I had the "two slices of toasted brioche with smoked salmon" (even though it was delicious, I wish the toast had a different type of bread so it didn't fall apart, but hey, that's just me). The pastries at the pastry counter are delicious too. Overall, a good place to grab a bite in the morning.
Mario C — Google review
Charming, well executed bakery. The breakfast was phenomenal and the desserts to die for. We had breakfast and then took dessert to go. The pecan pie was unbelievable and the chocolate “voodoo of a cake” was divine.
Beige M — Google review
Excellent bakery, coffee and all day menu. Has a very nice courtyard with tables to eat. The chef is making amazing cakes all morning so the smells are fantastic. But be sure to bring cash. No cards.
Samuel B — Google review
Beautiful cafe with delicious pastries and food! We went there twice daily for morning coffee and lunch during our stay. The owner Paco was very friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful, full of lush plants and artworks on the wall. We were thrilled that we found this place! While we were there we met an Italian couple who also visited it daily and said they enjoyed their meals very much. Such a hidden jam! A must for every visitor in San Miguel. It’s just steps away from the center of town.

***CASH ONLY*** Such a charming bakery in a fabulous setting. Enter and go up the stairs. Turn left and order at the counter or sit at a table for a small breakfast menu and pastries. I ordered the fruit (apples, raisins and maybe dates?) wrapped in philo with powdered sugar on top. Very tasty and what a cute setting. I worked here for an hour at the table with a view. Friendly service. I'd definitely return for another treat. What a great setting to meet up with friends or for a romantic date. 4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cynthia E — Google review
I have bought pastries here dozens of times, but today decided to have breakfast. I had the baked eggs in tomato sauce with poblano peppers and cheese. Delicious. And it came with perfectly crispy toasted and buttery baguette slices. Delicious! EDIT: On another visit, I had the bacon and black olives quiche with the most delicious salad I’ve had in a while. Wonderful high-quality greens. Oh, and the quiche was delicious, too!
Maria S — Google review
Petit Four rates a rock solid five stars in all but service, which was rather impersonal and hurried, thus qualifying for only four, rather than five stars. The flavor and presentation of everything we had was sterling, as is the ambience of this delightful establishment. The fresh grapefruit juice was fantastic, too.

Bakery
Located near the center of San Miguel de Allende, La Colmena Panaderia is a popular grab-and-go Mexican bakery known for its delicious pastries and empanadas. The bakery offers a variety of treats at affordable prices, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Visitors can indulge in traditional shortbread cookies that are highly recommended by many, as well as an assortment of other baked goods.
So close to the center, but has the vibe and ambiance of a classic old time Mexican panadería. Fresh daily. The cream filled horns and the chocolate donuts were really nice. Very healthy too 🙄😆. However, they did have whole grain bolillos.
Lloyd W — Google review
86 peso for 5 empanadas and pastries. Got them at 7 am so very fresh and smelled so good. Tasted good as well!
Resa L — Google review
26 peso for 2 pastry.
Ah S — Google review
Recommend by locals. Pastries were just ok, empanadas were really nice. We had chicken and it was very good.
Daniel J — Google review
Insanely good! The vanilla custard filled conchas are one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! (the custard was still warm at 10 am) Every pastry was perfect.
Ben K — Google review
I'm a pan dulce lover. I can always tell when the bread is fresh and when it's old. I was super excited to try this place since I was visiting all the way from Texas and a TikTok account made this place sound amazing. The bread is dry and covered in bees. The lady that seems to be the manager is super rude. Not pleasant/not welcoming at all. This place is not anything to be excited about. Bummer.
Rachel M — Google review
This really is a great bakery. Lots of locals which is always a good sign. I literally went every day for Six days straight. Grab a tray and some tongs and load er up. The empanadas are particularly good. They seem to run out so go earlier in the morning for the best selection. Everything else I tried was quite good also (I didn’t try the bread though - looked pretty standard). I kept hoping for the Mexican brownies but they never seemed to have them. I guess they sell out pretty quickly when they put a batch out. Very reasonable prices. Don’t be put off by the atmosphere - a few bees never killed anyone (unless you are allergic I suppose) I’ve seen worse at many Tim Hortons. highly recommend!
Tim E — Google review
The staff there was super friendly and helpful in helping us and answering our questions about the pandemic dulce and bolillos. The pan dulce was delicious, too. A perfect dessert. I’m seeing a lot of complaints about bees on the bread (I didn’t have that experience) but when it’s in the name (colmena = beehive), what did you expect! 🐝

Great little bakery. Their whole grain bolillos make fantastic tortas. They offer a wide variety of artisan breads, tasty cookies, banana bread, muffins... The double chocolate muffins are to die for. The service is always fantastic, with friendly smiles and helpful suggestions of items to try. Get there early for the best selection.

Love, love, this baker.. soft rolls are brilliant as is the sourdough bread. They make a rice bread to die for. 😀 get in early or it will be gone. The service is excellent, the wee lass is always smiling and very helpful.

Very good masa madre sourdough. Been there a bunch as new SMA residents. As someone with celiac (gluten issue) I’ve found I can eat long fermented masa madre 24+ hours. Delicious. No issues. Gracias 🙏 . Mi esposo also loved her cinnamon roll too. Smell great In there. Very nice staff. Fair prices. Recommend!

This bakery has the best sourdough in San Miguel de Allende. They have lots of delicious looking treats, but we just wanted to try the sourdough. We were not disappointed.
Jon S — Google review
The sunflower bread is yummy for breakfast toast. The iced cinnamon rolls are way too sweet and they should offer an un-iced version.

Since this bakery started in San Miguel de Allende, it has been a pleasure to consume its bread products, excellent quality and flavor.

They are off the main road and there is parking. They open at 8am. Come early for the good stuff. I arrived just a bit after 8:30am and they still had a good quantity of items but I'm sure if you came later in the day most of the goodies would be gone. Got a regular Croissant and one that was filled with cheese and jalapeno! Dogs are not allowed inside.

I love this little bakery and have been coming here for the last twenty years. I usually stop by three to five times per week whenever I’m in town. I love their empanada de papa con queso (32 pesos) and their bran muffins. The lovely ladies who work behind the counter are always so friendly.

A lovely bakery that makes stellar bread as well as savory and sweet empanadas and pastries. This is the bakery that makes the amazing orange-glazed doughnuts sold at the Saturday Market alongside Mercado Sano.

Gregor M — Google review
Excellent bakery with lots of selections but you need to go early since they run short on some of their breads. Really enjoyed their chibatta with rosemary, muffins, scones. I recommend this bakery.
T J — Google review
Do you want the best donuts in the Americas? If so, I recommend her orange sugar coated donuts. The best I have ever had, and I am a donut lover (when allowed by my wife). She loves these too! I am writing this against my own self-interest, because if everyone stampedes to get them, I will be out of luck.
Henry F — Google review
I have tried almost all the bakeries in San Miguel and this is hands down my favourite! Their bread and pastries are fantastic and good value for money. The staff is so friendly and when they hand you bread still warm from the oven - wow. The donuts and multigrain bread with seeds are top of my list. I just wish they made cakes too!

Buonforno Bakery is a fabulous bakery in San Miguel that offers a variety of delicious pastries and breads. The bakery has a small room with an array of baked goods and breads, while out back, there are cozy seating areas where visitors can enjoy their treats with a cup of coffee or tea. Customers have praised the helpful and friendly staff at Buonforno Bakery. The bakery's sourdough bread comes in various types and tends to sell out quickly due to its popularity.
What a fabulous bakery! There's a small room with all the baked goods and breads. Out back, there are a couple of small seating rooms to dine in with a cup of coffee or a tea. Another fabulous setting! I definitely want to come back and enjoy a treat and a drink here. We left with a bag of chocolate chip biscuits that were a cross between a scone and biscotti, perfect with a cup of tea. We also got a package of sourdough English muffins that we toasted and enjoyed with avocado and eggs a day later and they were still fantastic. This bakery definitely deserves it's high rating and I'd highly recommend a visit. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cynthia E — Google review
What a wonderful little gem. Freshly baked goodies and coffee. What I really liked is that they open early at 7:30. I had a delicious croissant and cappuccino. Very popular, so don't miss out.
Carina S — Google review
The people working there are so helpful and friendly. Their version of sourdough bread (masa madre) is made in a variety of bread styles from loafs to baguettes which usually sell out by 11:30 a.m. The bread shown in the photograph is great for making panini sandwiches. I have tried several bakeries in town and this one is definitely on the top of my list.

Marulier San Antonio is a delightful French bakery that has quickly become a beloved spot for locals. The excitement of having such an authentic establishment just around the corner was palpable for visitors, who found themselves drawn in daily to sample the array of delectable treats. From the black olive baguette, adored by younger patrons, to scrumptious banana muffins, there's something for everyone.
So so good. Had a musician playing a guitar and pan flute.the food was tasty and service was great. Sitting outside under the umbrellas was the perfect touch. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously. They have a case inside full of fine desserts.

It is a great place to enjoy of a nice cup of coffee and some French pastries We had some green chilaquiles and a croissant with egg, they were fantastic! We also had the dark hot chocolate 5/5 And a cup of Latte 5/5 The service was good but a bit slow the servers need more training, and be more attentive to the tables!
Martín G — Google review
Great place for breakfast. It has indoor and outdoor sitting. Outside, all the tables have shade, so you are not getting blasted by the sun. Also, it's a good place to sit if you like to watch people walk by. They have a nice selection of French pastries and deserts along with fresh baked bread. We both had the chilaquiles, and they were crunchy and great tasting, served with eggs, beans, and some fresh fruit. All to wash it down with a huge cup of coffee. Highly recommend as their menu has lots of options that all looked delicious.

Stacy and dropped in for brunch after our morning walk around Parque Juarez. We weren't sure if we wanted breakfast or lunch, but since it was early we received the lunch menu. They have done a lovely job adding additional umbrellas to make the outdoor dining area much shadier, which is a big improvement. Unfortunately I have never been a big fan of sitting right on the Ancha with all the traffic and accompanying noise. We would have sat indoors, but it seemed a little on the warm side. The service was fantastic. They took our drink orders immediately, gave us some time to get settled, and promptly took our food order. Our meals were served in a timely fashion and they checked on us a couple of times during the meal. I ordered the chicken sandwich on a baguette. The chicken was in strips and was not too try (as chicken frequently is). There was spinache and mushrooms on the sandwich and they were excellent. My sandwich was served with a small side salad. Stacy ordered the fruit plate with yogurt and granola. The melon, watermelon and berries were delicious, but the pineapple wasn't ripe yet so she left most of it. The yogurt was excellent and the granola was plentiful (Stacy only ate half of the granola provided. All in all this was a good, not great experience. It is definitely worth visiting and is in an extremely convenient location. UPDATE: we went again on January 19, 2024 for breakfast (I had huevos rancheros with salsa rojo, Stacy had avocado toast) and it was still very good. New pictures added.
Jon S — Google review
My wife and I had a delightful experience at this café. She enjoyed a delicious omelette with mushrooms and ham, which came with a small salad, potatoes, and a fresh fruit plate. Their latte was incredibly tasty, and I had a black coffee with a fresh pastry that was just perfect. The pastries all looked so tasty and fresh. The service was amazing, and sitting outside added to the wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Yves G — Google review
Very nice looking cafe restaurant. I ordered a small breakfast. Service was fast. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. It came to MEX$175, which was just under US$10. However, I was inadvertently overcharged at the register, and while management was very cooperative in fixing the problem it still took many emails and calls, so I’m dinging them a star. Check to see how much they’ve charged you before you leave!

"MARULIER, San Miguel's hidden culinary gem, captured our hearts and appetites from the first bite. With breakfast that awakens the soul and dinners that romance the palate, it's our go-to thrice already. A place where every dish tells a story of passion and perfection. If you're in San Miguel, missing MARULIER is missing a piece of culinary heaven. A top recommendation for an unforgettable dining experience. #GastronomicLoveAffair"
Brn M — Google review
I ordered two arrachera sandwiches today, and I have to say, I’m very disappointed. Each sandwich was $180 pesos, and they had barely any meat—just a thin layer that was hardly satisfying. On top of that, the veggies were almost nonexistent. For that price, I expected a lot more substance and quality. Also, what’s going on with the menu? It’s way too wordy! Why make it so complicated when the actual food doesn’t live up to the descriptions? Simplicity and quality go hand in hand, and unfortunately, this place missed the mark on both. The workers are very nice, but sadly, that doesn’t make up for the lackluster food.
Javi P — Google review
I'm surprised. Everything I ate was delicious. The vegetable quiche was very good. The chocolate ganache was so good...especially with coffee. The coffee itself was fine. The service was very friendly and heloful.

I’ve been here many times and always have positive experiences. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the pastries 🥐 are delicious and even their meal options have been pretty tasty, although the menu is fairly basic. Great find with authentic cuisine. My husband was blown away by the tortilla soup, and the server recommended that I try the chicken breast with goat cheese in poblano sauce (pechuga rellena de queso de cabra en salsa de la casa). Excellent choice! The service was fast and friendly and the margaritas were strong. Hard to beat that :-)

This lovely little cafe has excellent soups and is a minute's walk from the Centro. If you're nursing a sensitive stomach, they have chicken soup with rice which will hit the spot! The walls are full of art and our server was full of smiles. I was very grateful to find this place.

A small Mexican restaurant near the main center square. We ordered fajitas and chips with guacamole to split between two people. It was plenty of food. It tasted good and the service was also good. The chips were a bit on the greasy side, but most chips here are that way. There were a lot of people so it seems popular. The guacamole and chips came in a display that looked like a flower. It was different and cool.

Garambullo is a charming fonda gourmet in San Miguel, known for its diverse menu featuring breakfast, brunch, and international dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant offers gluten-free options and a delightful ambiance, allowing guests to dine indoors or in the scenic outdoor patio. With excellent coffee and attentive service, it's an ideal spot for leisurely meals or productive work sessions.
The restaurant has a congenial atmosphere with its blend of indoor and outside seating. The walls are covered with greenery and the blue sky above. I had the burrata salad which looked small when it was served, later they brought me another piece saying they come up different sizes and wanted me to have more. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff were very accommodating.

A charming little cafe tucked away northeast of the market and main plazas. The venue was covered, rustic, full of natural light and plants. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu was very health conscious and veg forward, so beware of that if you’re expecting something more filling or protein heavy. Smoothies and other breakfast beverages were on offer as well. All in all great little spot if you want something quiet and overloaded on the more traditional, less nutrition oriented preparation style (although who could be).
Emiliya B — Google review
Beautiful atmosphere, excellent service. I have two food allergies (gluten and dairy). Several allergy types are listed on the menu. I hada the chilaquiles with the dairy free option and a smoothie. I was even able to buy GF DF peanut butter cookies to take away.

Excellent place for breakfast. The food was amazing! Great combinations. Great coffee too and the service from the girl that was by herself, was really good. Thank you for this breakfast

Really great service and the food was delicious. I got the poached eggs on polenta. And they have vegan options as well. Also good coffee ☕

6/5 mark for the bowl with shrimp. It’s comfortable to have some warm food in cold weather. I’m amazed by the seasoning, not too salty or sour.
R H — Google review
This is a great little find about 1/2 block from Mercado Ignacio Ramirez. It has a beautiful spacious indoor patio chock full of greenery, the service is excellent, the food is delicious and made fresh to order, and there are lots of vegan and vegetarian and gluten-free options. I had the vegan bowl which I thought it was a little smaller than what I'm used to but, with the pan de elote on the side, and they were absolutely delicious! I didn't have any this time but their desserts looked fabulous as well. They even have a little library in the front. This is a definite must in town!

Nestled in the charming town of San Miguel, Wafflessence de Paul is a delightful café that brings a taste of Belgium to Mexico. Opened by Marie-Pascale Gerard and her son Paul in January 2023, this cozy spot specializes in authentic Liege waffles—round, not rectangular—crafted from family recipes passed down through generations.
A unique Belgian dining experience in San Miguel de Allende. The Belgian hot chocolate is rich, smooth, and not too sweet. The savory waffle with creamed scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was delicious, and the coffee was smooth and creamy even before I added a spot of milk. Next time, we try the sweet waffles.
Maria S — Google review
Amazing Belgian waffles made by amazing Belgians! Staff is amazing, friendly, and willing to share their culture and history! Plus, the waffles are warm and delicious! I can also recommend the Belgian hot chocolate!
Clyde ( — Google review
I was suprised to find a Belgian waffleplace in San Miguel de Allende. So happy that I found this place on my trip here. I was welcomed here with a big smile by fellow Belgians. Real Belgian Waffles in Mexico, amazing!! A must stop for every Belgian (and waffle lover) when you're in the area!
Wouter — Google review
Paul and Marie-Pascale are there to welcome you and make you feel at home. We ended up trying everything on the menu- the food is delicious. I had a savory waffle with filet-American from the presentation to the taste it was wonderful. I would recommend finding this place for a coffee or lunch. We sat at the bar but there are tables for larger groups….and if you are taller than Paul you get a sweet waffle on the house.
Graham S — Google review
These authentic Belgian waffles are a must taste!! All ingredients that Paul and his mom Marie use to make these waffles come from Belgium. The pearl sugar, which has been manufactured by their family for generations, give these dessert waffles a sweetness and crunch that regular breakfast waffles lack. I had a warm waffle with chocolate bars—two thin bars are inserted in the middle of the waffle—it was delicious!! Whether you order savory or sweet waffles, you will be glad you stopped by. Aside from waffles, you can purchase mousse du chocolat, cookies, waffle mix, chocolate cream, etc. They also prepare waffles for special occasions. Visit Paul and Marie at their new location inside Casa Europa. And if you happen to be taller than Paul, your waffle will be free! 🙂 Enjoy.

Had a great meal today. A savory waffle with soft scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. They gave us tastes of he waffles and the chocolate they use in their desserts. Definitely worth a visit
Rose P — Google review
Amazing for kids, service incredible and lovely waffles! Belgian owners, that give you advice on best waffles to choose
Adriana M — Google review
Saw this place when going to a play nearby and noticed they had a sign if you were taller than the owner, Paul, you’d get a free waffle. Lucky for me they stayed true to their word and gave us a delicious Belgian waffle! It was sweetened with beet sugar as I learned is the European way. Believe it or not Paul was the 7 generations of beet farmer so im sure it’s true to the tradition. Highly recommend their iced coffee as well!

Nestled in a charming courtyard alive with the flutter of hummingbirds, Nectar en Camino Silvestre Restaurante offers a delightful escape for those seeking healthy vegetarian cuisine. This enchanting café serves an array of fresh dishes, including creative takes on traditional Mexican fare like chilaquiles and enchiladas rojas. The atmosphere is enhanced by an extensive tea menu featuring unique blends such as Rooibos Cacao, perfect for sharing over good conversation.
Great food, great service!! The atmosphere is very unique. My husband does not eat meat, and I cannot eat eggs or dairy, so this place met both of our dietary needs while having delicious options 😁

Nectar was good but not great. Beautiful dining patio and nice service. My fresh naranja 🍊 and wife’s iced coffee delicious. Her chilaquiles vegano were quite tasty but my Norteño mini tamales 🫔 were dry and literally only maza. I almost drained the salsa bottle to eat them. One average tasting meal doesn’t mean Nectar is bad so we’ll try again. Hope for better preparation. Music was too loud and too bumping for mid-morning meal had to ask them to turn it down. Server did.
Rail1riders — Google review
Decent food, not the greatest. I do not agree with the many high star reviews. It's a nice vibe and attractive setting. Service is very slow. If you are hungry I would not recommend it. Waited 10 minutes to order then it took over 40 minutes for our simple dishes to arrive once we ordered. Ordered a carrot soup that was strange tasting and too sweet, enchiladas and quinoa, lentil burger. The best thing was a side of potatoes. Reasonable price. Saw a couple of hummingbirds. Not coming back and not sure I would recommend.
T J — Google review
A beautifully decorated Vegan cafe. The decor is so nicely done. Loved the Jicama salad and the avocado toast. I feel that Vietnamese coffee does not work well with coconut milk and the fat kind of leaves a weird coat on your tongue.

(Translated by Google) The pastries are delicious, they are desserts made daily, I would have liked a better coffee option to accompany them, since drinks are obviously not their forte, another thing I also noticed is that they do not have many options, although the few are good and they told us that they change according to the season, the place is small but cozy, it is worth making a stop if you walk through the area, the carrot cake is the best...

Terrible coffee. Really. All I could taste was milk with a slight hint of coffee.I don’t understand why is it so hard to find a decent cup of coffee in this town? I just wanted to reiterate what a lot of folks have been saying about the brownies and cookies from Joleisa's on Stirling Dickinson (between Emma's and Ten Ten Pie).
