1Che Lagarto Hostels Morro de São Paulo

Hostel
Che Lagarto Hostels Morro de São Paulo is a vibrant hostel located in the picturesque countryside of Morro de Sao Paulo. The accommodation offers casual rooms and dorms, featuring a bar, game room, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary breakfast. The hostel encourages interaction between national and international visitors, making it ideal for those seeking new friendships while exploring the island's attractions.
Great location. Staff are incredible. We stayed there for about 6 days in a private room. Like all the LAGARTO hostels, the beds and pillows are incredibly comfortable. Paintings and art are nice and made by a cool artist (we got to meet her). I would say that most of the guests are Argentinian, so get your Spanish ready. Kitchen is big and well equipped. The only downside in my opinion is that there are no planned hostel parties. For example costume night, gender exchange night, caipirinha night... Etc. That could make the hostel go from great to amazing!

Excellent atmosphere! The staff is super nice and friendly. If you are traveling solo, you will certainly meet nice people to hang out. If you book a room make sure to check if the air conditioning is located in the upper part of the wall. Otherwise, you will feel too hot if sleeping in a upper bed.
Raphael A — Google review
Nice place, can be clean too depends on the people in the dorm. Its a big hostel, not that friendly feeling like in a small one. But what i really didnt like: no soap in the toilets. As if every person in a dorm brings his own soap. So everybody touches everything without washing their hands, specially during corona times ..
Michael — Google review
The 4-bed room (beds, locker, washroom) could be better. The bed and the locker are really small and the shower was broken in the first night but they got it changed after we warned that . Get your spanish ready cause most of the guests are Argentinean. The staff is really nice.
Vitor S — Google review
Cozy and clean room with AC, though some guests were complaining theirs wasn't working. Great breakfast. Friedly staff. There was water / power shortage, but it wasn't the hostel's fault.
Mateus M — Google review
This is one of the best hostels I have ever seen! Great fun place and would definitely stay here again when I visit Morro!

Overpriced and not as clean, nice common area, but in the end just dosent worth the money.

Universo Pol Bamboo Hostel is nestled within a natural reserve in Morro de Sao Paulo, offering a unique stay surrounded by lush forest. The accommodation features thatched-roof bamboo huts with mosquito net windows, providing an immersive experience in nature. Guests can enjoy free vegan breakfast, including delicious homemade vegan cakes. The hostel also offers yoga classes and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
Eternal love for this place. Amazing location, architecture and hospitality. Looking forward to returning to see the friends made here.

The hostel is amazing! Very nice place, the best breakfast, super friendly staff! For the people that arrive late to the hostel (as in after sunset). Once you reach the destination on maps you still have to walk 5-10 minutes down the path with all the lights. The path is completely safe and just keep on walking all the way to the end following the lights, you will reach the hostel.
Dominic — Google review
Without a doubt, this was the best place we stayed on our trip in Brazil. The entire hostel was very clean and the vegan breakfast was amazing 😍. The staff was kind and welcoming they took the time to show us the map of the island and gave us great recommendations for things to do. On the day we left, they even made us breakfast earlier so we wouldn't have to travel hungry. Most importantly the atmosphere was incredible as we truly felt immersed in the jungle. We can't recommend this place highly enough!
Emma W — Google review
Had a very nice 3 night stay in the Bungalow with my partner. Staff is very friendly and the breakfast is all delicious home made food. The atmosphere is rather calm, and that was were we were looking for. It’s 15min located from the center, right in the woods - so don’t expect to be dropped off with a taxi right before the entrance! 😉 It’s a bamboo hostel, located in a small forest. So expect to hear animals at night, bring repellent and walk on an unpaved (but well lit) road. Too bad we didn’t see any monkeys when we were staying there!
Pieter S — Google review
Very nice place in the middle of the forest (10-15min walk to the center / port). As the windows consist of "mosquito nets" you really get to feel the forest. The rooms are clean and mosquito free. The staff is friendly and helpful and they prepare the best breakfast I had in a hostel (especially the two types of vegan cakes the make every day are delicious)! Would defenitely stay there again and recommend it to everyone who likes nature!
Michael E — Google review
Loved the place, the atmosphere and the treatment received. The hostel is in the middle of the forest and yet it's spotless clean (kudos to that!!). It's Argentinian owned so I think you'll enjoy it more of you speak Spanish, as they arrange cultural events such as walks, theatre and jam sessions. Having said that, it is NOT a party hostel, so if that's what you fancy then I'll recommend somewhere else. Vegan breakfast was really really good (I'm not vegan nor vegetarian), although I must admit I didn't like the coffee. Still they get my 5 stars and I'd definitely come back there without a doubt when/if I get back to Morro de SP.
Isa A — Google review
The idea of a hostel made with bamboo in the forest was nice but unfortunately the reality doesn't live up to expectations. The photos are misleading and should be updated. They show a place and rooms that look much nicer, newer and cleaner than the reality. The bedrooms are not super clean but at least they are swept everyday, while the shared bathrooms are very dirty: not cleaned a single time in the 4 days I was there, despite complaints from several guests, including me. None of the toilet and shower doors were functioning, so other guests could see while you use the toilets and take a shower. When me and another guest raised the issue, the manager said that he wasn't aware of the problem (that tells a lot about management and maintenance) and will "look into it". 3 days later when I left, nothing had been done about it. During my stay, the 2 toilets were disgusting. The toilet paper was missing for 2 days. There was no soap nor paper towels in the toilets. 1 shower did not work at all and the second one had no lighting, so everyone used the same one. 2 guests ended up leaving the Hostel and booking elsewhere because of the overall lack of cleanliness. The tasty vegan food mentioned on the website is not offered anymore - only a (good) breakfast. The Covid measures highlighted on the website and reservation email are non existent (no hand sanitizer, the staff doesn't wear the mask, etc ). The location is more remote than indicated by the Hostel: about 15 mins to the village and 20-25 mins to the beach. On the positive side, in addition to the breakfast, I loved the path to the Hostel through the forest. This place could be a nice stay if it was managed and maintained professionally.
J T — Google review
This magical place in the jungle is the nr 1 reason to stay at morro. The luxury house, caring and empathetic staff and best breakfast in the world, gave me the feeling that I was spending my time in a villa imagined in one of my dreams. Super cool architecture, a garden with loads of food and a nice wake up in the middle of nature. Go here! It is a life experience!

Nestled just a short stroll from the vibrant heart of Morro de Sao Paulo, Papagaio Hostel & Pousada is an inviting retreat for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. This colorful hostel boasts a refreshing outdoor pool, perfect for lazy afternoons or social gatherings right outside your room. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast featuring delightful daily surprises, including tasty treats like fried tapioca cakes with coconut.
Papagaio is one obviously one of the best place to stay in the island. It is a very comfortable and hosts are very very much friendly and helpful. Rooms and all places are so clean and the service was great. Location is just in the heart of the island, 5 minutes to the port and 10 min walk to the beaches. Thank you Alvise & Carla for everything!

Honestly this hostel is a hidden gem. I'm from England travelling around the entirety of Latin America and it's been one of my favourite hostels in the 7 months so far. Pros - Quiet location but only 5 minutes walk to the main square - Super cheap compared to other hostels - Great buffet breakfast with eggs, fruit, sausages, cake - Chilled pool - Attentive staff who clean rooms daily Cons - Beds could use a little upgrade, new pillows for example

(Translated by Google) I stayed at the inn from December 20 to 27, 2024, using a shared female room on the penultimate day. Although the inn offers breakfast with fruits, bread, natural juice, milk and coffee, on the first two days I came across cold cuts that were visibly poorly stored. The ham, for example, had a sticky appearance, indicating that it was past its prime for consumption. The structure of the rooms also left something to be desired. The beds, especially the bunk beds, are unsafe and feel like they could collapse at any moment. In addition, the mattresses are extremely thin and worn, which resulted in an uncomfortable experience, as I practically slept on the wood of the bed. I hope that these issues are analyzed and adjusted, as they compromise the guest experience.

(Translated by Google) Extremely cozy hostel. The owners are very friendly and have great tips on what to do in the area. The hostel has a kitchen available to help with last-minute meals. It is also very close to the third beach with several food options and a supermarket just a few steps away. The bathroom is inside the room and with 6 people, number two can be difficult. But a hostel is a hostel. Those who stay there have to be careful. There is the option of breakfast for R$18 but I didn't opt for it. However, I heard good feedback from other guests. The location is great! Just a few meters from the tranquility of the 3rd beach and also very close to the hustle and bustle of the 2nd beach (a bit contradictory, but it's true, lol). I stayed in a private room and it was a great choice (there are shared rooms too). The cleaning and tidying is done every day, the air conditioning is wonderful and super quiet. They provide towels. The breakfast is simple but delicious. It has cake, juice, coffee, tea, milk, bread, cheese, ham, two fruit options and, don't forget to try the plantain (WONDERFUL)! I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet place in Morro! Hostel
Hostel Pepouze, located in Morro de Sao Paulo, offers a range of amenities including an outdoor swimming pool, garden, shared lounge, and terrace for relaxation. The property also features a bar and barbecue facilities. It is conveniently situated close to Porto De Cima Beach and First Beach. The rooms come with private bathrooms and showers, with some offering balconies and pool views. Guests can enjoy the peaceful neighborhood just a short walk away from the bustling downtown area.
To be honest, my stay in the hostel Pepouze was wonderful. The hostel is located 10 minutes away from the "touristic" downtown and 15 minutes away from the beaches. Only a little walk and you arrived in a green and peaceful neighborhood, where waterpool, a lot of chill areas and wonderful people are waiting for you. It is possible to cook and the nearest shop/snack is only five minutes away. The dorm is well done and quite spaceful (and with air conditionning!). The breakfast is tasty and copious. I really recommand this hostel for friends or solo travellers, as the hostel bar opens regularly at the end of the day, it's really enjoyable to sympathize with the others guests having a drink with good music or playing a beerpong tournament :-) Big up for the bbq party around the waterpool, it was really awesome! I arrived alone and I quickly made friends to explore Morro SP. and party with, I never thought that my stay would pass that fast.. I guess that some people could find a hostel closer to the downtown, but really, if you like to stay around nature and go off the trail to discover secret natural spots and parties in Morro, this is the place to be! Ps : There is a bar up hill where there is one of the best sunset of Morro de Sao Paulo, ask Damien or one of the volunteer to show you the way, it's really worth it ;)

(Translated by Google) The service is welcoming and everything served is very tasty. There is a WhatsApp information service that helps tourists find their way around. However, it is quite far from the main part of Morro de São Paulo, access is complicated and there are huge stairs to get there. There are also 7 cats (this should have been mentioned when booking, but it wasn't) that leave an unmistakable smell of feces and urine in the room. They are also very poor at cleaning, the upholstery is all worn and stained.

When we got there, the cleanliness was lacking and there was a very strong smell of urea throughout the place, I believe it was due to the many cats in the house! We even decided to look for another place to stay. Even knowing about the cancellation policy, we proposed a deal for the remaining daily rates that had already been paid (since we used 2 days, one of which was paid for and not used), but the hostess was very adamant. The Church of Our Lady of Light, also known as Nossa Senhora Da Luz, has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Legend has it that the Dutch Admiral's attempt to invade the island was thwarted by a miraculous sight, attributed to the Holy Patron, Lady of Light. The church was completed in 1845 and is home to relics from the 17th and 18th centuries, including sacred images and baroque cedar altars.

(Translated by Google) The church is located right at the entrance to Morro de São Paulo. It's historic and part of the city. It holds Mass every Saturday at 7 p.m. due to high demand and the limited number of priests to celebrate and administer the churches in the archipelago. We were fortunate (thanks to God and the Blessed Virgin) to attend Mass on July 12th. Jesus is in the Blessed Sacrament! A place of prayer and history. It's worth it! Vale a pena!

Lighthouse Zipline offers a thrilling experience as you zip from a hilltop directly into the ocean, providing picturesque views of Morro de Sao Paulo. The lighthouse, built in 1855, holds historical significance and is documented in the daily notes of Dom Pedro II during the royal family's visit to the island in 1859. This super fun and affordable activity allows you to enjoy unique views while gliding into the ocean.
wow lovely view from this Zipline - i didn't do it but i sat there and waited for friends to go down - just amazing the view you get from up there of morro de sao paulo - i am guessing it gets even much better whilst going down

Super fun and affordable zip line. You get to go right into the ocean which is pretty unique. Make sure you go in clothes that can get wet. They also send any valuables in a waterproof bag so no need to worry about phones or wallets getting wet.

Hotel
Hotel Aqua By Sambass in Morro de São Paulo offers a remarkable stay with its warm and attentive staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, and impeccable cleanliness. The highlight is the delightful breakfast featuring a wide variety of fresh fruits, breads, cakes, and hot options. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool with stunning views of the beach and exclusive services such as personalized breakfast for dietary restrictions. The rooftop bar provides excellent drinks served by a skilled bartender for a memorable experience.
(Translated by Google) We had an excellent experience at Aqua by Sambass! The inn boasts a prime oceanfront location close to all the amenities of Morro de São Paulo, with bars, restaurants, and shops just steps away. But best of all, the inn is incredibly peaceful and quiet, perfect for relaxing. The facilities are impeccable: spacious room, super comfortable bed, brand-new smart TV, and even a private oceanfront pool, which made all the difference. Everything is very well-maintained and offers an exclusive atmosphere. The breakfast is also noteworthy—besides the buffet with plenty of options, everything is very fresh and well-prepared, there are also à la carte items made to order, with excellent service. Another plus is that guests receive a discount at the Sambass restaurant, as well as access to the shows on the terrace, which has an incredible vibe at night. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend Aqua by Sambass. A true haven of comfort and charm in Morro de São Paulo!

If this place was half the price, I'd give it 5 stars. The staff were friendly, the location is perfect (on the edge between the main tourist strip and the quieter part of Morro), and the breakfast was great. But many aspects of the hotel were mid-range, not in line with the luxury price. For example, the only ventilation from the bathroom was to the internal corridor, so there was often a bad smell and we got woken up for an hour when a drunk guest was singing in the night. There is basically a laundry service where you can leave your clothes with reception, but you have to WhatsApp the laundry company yourself to arrange payment and pickup /drop-off - this seems like something the hotel staff could easily do themselves. We had a few similar experiences with things like this. So all in all, very nice hotel, but only go if the room isn't too expensive - it's nice but not luxury.

(Translated by Google) I stayed at Aqua by Sambass believing I was getting a “Super Luxury Oceanfront Room with Private Pool.” That was the promise in the ad, and that’s why I paid a lot — both in points and in expectations. Upon arrival, I was greatly disappointed: the “private pool” is nothing more than a communal pool divided by a glass and concrete wall, with water completely shared between the rooms on the floor. In other words: you are diving into the same water used by other guests. This is absurd, especially for those who value hygiene and health. Outraged, I tried to resolve the situation with the hotel manager. His response? Mockery and disregard. He said that “private depends on the concept.” In other words, for him, sharing water with strangers through a wall is the new “exclusive luxury.” This attitude is unacceptable. It is not just a questionable interpretation of the word “private,” but also false advertising and disrespect for the customer. The omission of essential information and the way they deal with criticism reveals a lot about the management of this place. The inn may have infrastructure, but it lacks ethics, transparency and respect for the consumer. Here is my warning: if you value your money, your health and your time, look for another option in Morro de São Paulo. (Original) Me hospedei no Aqua by Sambass acreditando estar adquirindo um quarto “Super Luxo Frente Mar com Piscina Privativa”. Deboche e descaso.

(Translated by Google) I booked a sea view room, arrived, and was disappointed to find the view obstructed by trees and a tarp in front of the room. I asked, and the receptionist said it would only be possible to change it the next day. Rude. I was already a little disappointed, because I had high expectations. The room didn't have a closet to organize my clothes. Terrible! Good cleaning Good bed Good breakfast, but it's next to the rooms, and at 7:30 there are already people banging dishes, lol. Why not have breakfast at the restaurant across the street? It's oceanfront and lets the guests sleep in longer... That night, I ordered a pizza in my room, and it took an hour to get it. Then I had to go down and ask the receptionist, and she said, "I was busy." LOL, that's ridiculous! I don't think the reception desk even has room to put water in the filter... it's better not to have one, after all, it's gross. They advertise it a lot, but it's not all that.

(Translated by Google) I expected much more from this stay. The room was simple, but the pool was really good, but it wasn't the cleanest. We were a group of 3 couples and my wife wanted to celebrate my birthday and asked for a birthday kit at the hotel. My God, what a horrible cake, it looked like a rock, no one could cut the cake because it was so hard, we even thought it was a decoration. The bathroom doorknob kept falling off in my hand. We requested the breakfast basket in the room, but it took so long that we had to eat in the breakfast room and the basket was only good for taking photos. The view is really beautiful, the location is great. We complained about the cake at the reception and the most we got was an apology email and our invoice for R$300.00 for this terrible experience with the birthday kit 😂😂 (Original) Esperava muito mais dessa estadia. A vista realmente é linda, a localização é ótima.

(Translated by Google) I wasn't well received, which means we didn't go, because I went with a very large group. The new management is very low-level. Unlike the owner of the place. The rooms were clean, but the comfort for the group rooms was a little lacking. Very hot. And the air conditioning didn't work, there was only a ceiling fan that was just for show. No ventilation at all. So after 5 pm they allowed us to turn on the air conditioning. I think this is wrong because when we pay we are entitled to it. My room was a double room, the air conditioning was turned on but it didn't cool at all. Only at night and very little. The coffee was very weak. I personally don't recommend it and I won't go back to this inn while this management is in place. They need to have a little more professionalism and love for what they do. Regardless of anything, they need to maintain their posture. Besides other super annoying things that happened. (Translated by Google) The accommodation is good. It has positive points and points for improvement. Seu Jorge and his team are very receptive and helpful. The only negative point was due to the organization of the rooms. We had to relocate our group between the rooms because the division was not as expected (we knew this right away because up until the moment of booking everything was ok in the division), so be very careful in this regard! The food was very good and well prepared. (Maybe there was a lack of more variety of options) The location is easy to find but tiring due to the ups and downs and a little far from the center. (Original) A hospedagem é boa.

(Translated by Google) I stayed at the Pousada in January. Two negative points: First, the booking information about the location is false. The pousada is very far from Toca do Morcego, a terrible location. And second, the pousada overbooked my reservation. They gave me a discount on the first day because of the situation. And on the second day, when everything was supposed to be resolved, again, the room I was promised was not available. I was very upset with the Pousada and informed them that I wanted to cancel due to their mistakes. The pousada did not cancel or refund my money. Absurd. I do not recommend it. Disrespectful.

The clear blue waters are perfect for swimming and water sports, while the soft golden sand is ideal for sunbathing and relaxation. Visitors can also enjoy live music and entertainment in the evenings, creating a vibrant and festive ambiance.

(Translated by Google) This is my fourth time at El Morro. I came for the first time in 2010. It's changed considerably over the years, but it's still the most beautiful beach, closer to everything, to the center, and with a diverse range of restaurants and hotels. Everything happens here. It's busy but beautiful. There are soccer and volleyball courts, a public area for training, and a lifeguard. It's beautiful. It's true that last time we saw it dirtier, with lots of rusty metal beer caps, construction debris, and cigarette butts and plastic straws. It's a shame in that regard, which is why I'm giving it one star, but I still choose it because it's close to everything. If you go, be sure to buy coconut water from María; it's almost below the lifeguard's house. Ask Gerson for caipis; they're some of the kindest, most attentive, and caring people on the second beach; they're always on the lookout. As of September 2025, we'll pay 15 R for coconut water, 25 R for caipi, 15 R for grilled cheese, and 5 R for a mineral water, just to give you an idea of the prices. We tried the ice cream with vodka, which was delicious and cost 10 R. There's a public shower to rinse off the sea water and sand. They put hoses with water from the hotel and public roads up to the beach chairs so you don't burn your feet. It's true that there are a lot of different people talking, but since this is Argentina, this seems normal to me; it doesn't bother me too much.

I slept here like a baby. Comfortable matresses, newly renovated, clean bathrooms, spacious kitchen with a view of a banana tree and a green terrace to enjoy your meal and chill in a hammock afterwards. Just 2 min walk to the beach. Miguel who is the owner offers the best price in town. (Translated by Google) The place is in no way suitable to be called a hostel. The entrance is an alley and dirty stairs because residents/visitors even leave spoiled food at the entrance! The room we stayed in was completely unventilated. I won't even mention the internal conditions, such as the kitchen, for example. Do not drink water from the plastic filter under any circumstances! Two friends drank it and felt sick for days. The Argentine family seemed to be having an anthropological vacation experience and not managing a place intended for tourism. I was enchanted by the cozy vibe and the super attentive service from the staff. From the moment I arrived, I could tell it was a special place. The location is great! The guesthouse is about 700 meters from the beach, a peaceful walk away. The best thing is that it's very close to restaurants with live music, lively bars and that little craft fair full of beautiful things. In other words, you can enjoy both the peace and quiet of the guesthouse and the hustle and bustle of the village, all in the right measure. Breakfast was a show in itself! It had everything: fresh fruit, delicious homemade cakes, breads and natural juices... Everything made with great care. There's nothing like starting the day well fed before exploring the island's incredible beaches. And the service? 10 out of 10! The staff is super attentive, always giving good tips on tours and doing everything they can to make us feel at home.
