Organico Fortuna is a family-owned restaurant in La Fortuna that focuses on serving organic dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients. The menu offers a diverse range of fully-vegetarian options, including many vegan and gluten-free choices. The picturesque eco-conscious eatery also features a small market where visitors can purchase locally made products.
Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff was super friendly. We had the tuna tower appetizer, we each had a lunch plate dessert, tea and coffee. Our check was over $100. Not something we could afford to do often but an enjoyable meal and experience.

Exceptional restaurant. Great food, great service and open environment. We were looking for something healthy for lunch. This place exceeded our expectations. We tried the quinoa salad with fresh mango. Beautiful presentation and flavor. The mango quinoa combo tasted amazing. We also tried the falafel sandwich with lightly fried or baked yucca. The sandwich came with lettuce, hummus, thinly sliced dill pickles and possibly onions. Not sure about the onions. I ate it so fast, I can't remember. The yucca sticks were served with homemade yellow mustard sauce. They also gave us homemade ketchup. This place was amazing. Might go back and play music for them tomorrow. Hope to try the deserts as well. Don't forget they add the tip and tax. It added about 20% to our bill.

We enjoyed our meal here! They have a good mix of vegan and non vegan options. The soup was delicious. The nachos were decent but a bit soggy, my husband loved his meal. I would probably skip dessert and opt for a smoothie in the future!
Morgan E — Google review
Tasty food but expensive imo! More expensive than vegan restaurants in the U.S. High quality food but for $44 dollars for drink, meal and dessert, I would consider cheaper options first. Healthy good food, great service and the server and workers are very friendly!
Chelsea V — Google review
Extremely good quality food and service! Food comes very fast and it is super fresh. Many vegan and vegetarian options. All vegan desserts!! Delicious and worth the visit.
Luiza D — Google review
I NEEDED that healing food after a strenuous day. The vit c + anti inflammatory shot took some pain away. 😊 the green juice is thick! You can taste the kale. The prices are good and so many vegan options! The nachos are so good too. I needed some comfort food. I will try more items.
Sherry B — Google review
An incredibly cute cafe, with fresh, healthy and delicious foods from beginning to end. Kind and friendly service was appreciated.
Andrew M — Google review
This place is amazing!! We went for breakfast one day and went back for lunch the next day! We had the same waitress both days and she was amazing. I drink water extremely fast and she was on top of the refills! The first day we got the Tico breakfast burrito and Protein bowl-both amazing. The next day for lunch we got the chicken sandwich, happiness bowl, green energy smoothie & brownie with ice cream. Everything here is so good and the food comes out so cute. Can’t recommend this place enough!!!

Restaurante Café Mediterráneo is a charming eatery located in La Fortuna, offering delectable wood-fired pizzas and handmade pasta. The restaurant's stylish ambiance and excellent service make it a favorite among visitors. Additionally, the establishment prides itself on being the only place in town that makes its own pasta, with options like spaghetti, fettucini, and ravioli available.
Our family of four had an exceptional dinner on a late evening after arriving in La Fortuna. The location is just up the road from the main street with plenty of parking. The staff were very friendly and made excellent recommendations. The huge pizzas are made fresh, topped with the best ingredients and baked in a wood fire oven. Do not skip on the spaghetti carbonara, yes it is that good.
Jenny V — Google review
We love the ambiance and the place settings, but that's where the pros end. The cons: my wife's salmon wasn't cooked all the way through; her piña colada had next to no alcohol. I asked for a hamburger with no lettuce and the meat to be medium well. I still got lettuce on the burger and the meat was more like medium rare. My French fries were below quality and undercooked. The appetizer, avocado with shrimp topping was the one redeeming part of the meal. We won't return, even though we had a 10% off coupon from the hotel we chose to stay in while visiting La Fortuna.
Gilbert N — Google review
Good food and great service! We came as a group of 8 without a reservation and they were able to seat us immediately (it’s not super crowded in La Fortuna right now). Our food came out quickly as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food wasn’t the best we’ve ever had, but still pretty solid!
Emme T — Google review
Overall really good experience! We gave this place a 4/5 stars because it was good but not the best Italian food we’ve ever had. The place definitely had a romantic feel like we were expecting and the service was excellent - our servers were awesome! I ordered the Pasta Carbonara (which I believe they used cream in) and my wife the Salmon and mashed Potatoes (not pictured). Everything was really good but a little under seasoned. It was definitely a very large portion of salmon for the price - which is definitely a win!Would recommend for a nice romantic dinner that still isn’t too expensive.
Giovani B — Google review
Excellent for families. Service was great and food was good. Ordered drinks and pizza while my kids played next to us in the playroom. Might have been the most fun they had on the trip!
Dr. J — Google review
This pizzeria was recommended to us by an employee of a car rental company in Fortuna – and it was a very good decision. The pizza could even be ordered with extras – it was fantastic, the crust crispy – it was cooked in a wood-fired oven. The local craft beers – IPA and Golden Pale Ale – were also very good! The prices are slightly higher, but in line with the good quality of the food. The service was very attentive, but not intrusive. The pizzeria is highly recommended – we'd happily return another time.
Martin B — Google review
I had a group of 6 people and we ate here. This place is so delicious. The ambience is amazing! I got a medium vegetarian pizza and it was delicious. They had options for everyone.

Restaurant
Restaurante La Parada is a popular dining spot in La Fortuna, offering a wide variety of national and international cuisine. Specializing in meats and pizza, the restaurant also provides express service and catering options. Conveniently located in the town center, it's known for its generous portions and reasonable prices. While some visitors recommend sticking to traditional Costa Rican dishes over Americanized options, others praise the delicious food and refreshing fruit juices.
Had a great meal and drinks at Restaurante La Parada in February 2025. It's a really nicely decorated restaurant with friendly, polite staff. We had a couple of cocktails while choosing our food (Caiparinhas - they were goooood), then chose the chicken tacos and shrimp tacos (with a glass of wine each). The food was delicious - I think the chicken tacos were marginally better than the shrimp tacos (but it's a very close thing). If we'd had longer in La Fortuna, we would definitely have gone back to this place....would recommend it 100%.
Kevin W — Google review
The food wasn’t very authentic and the tacos and casados have been options for cheaper in walking distance. This place is aimed at tourists for sure. the service was good, and Christian was friendly and spoke great english.
Miles F — Google review
Good food with a great staff. Nice view of the park from the tables along the railing.
Myles L — Google review
Our service, Pilsner, location and atmosphere were great. The shrimp tacos were delicious but the pork chop entree was very tough which was immediately replaced.
Ron R — Google review
Looking for a place to have dinner in la Fortuna we found this restaurant right next to the park, the food was not only delicious but served very quickly, the waiter was kind and attentive and the price was very good considering location and how good the food was! Highly recommended!
Steven — Google review
This restaurant is easy to find and kind of right in the center of town across from the park. I went earlier in the day for lunch and it was empty; however a few people were there when I left. The food was good and the passion fruit/dragon fruit smoothie good too. I did take a minute for the waiter to bring the check after he took my plate away; however, that is no big deal for me as I was enjoying the view and the weather.
Derrick S — Google review
My husband and I had dinner and we really enjoyed our food. I’d say stick with the “comida típica” instead of the Americanized entrees. Food was good, we loved the fruit juices. customer service was ok, could have been better. They charged 500 colones for more tortilla chips for the ceviche which didn’t make sense but oh well. Prices are a bit higher compared to other local restaurants. Overall, I’m rating for the food we did have.

The service was fantastic. The food was very fresh tasting with a little Tico flare. The surprise was the espresso martini was delicious!

Soda Víquez is a must-visit gem in La Fortuna, celebrated for its authentic flavors and warm hospitality. Nestled conveniently next to the Rainforest Cafe, this local eatery offers generous portions of traditional dishes at budget-friendly prices. Diners rave about their casado and pescado platters, which showcase the freshness of local ingredients. The friendly owner treats guests like family, often surprising them with complimentary desserts that add a sweet touch to the experience.
I recommend the chicken nachos and the beef tacos. We also ordered the grilled chicken fillet which was good. This and 2 imperial beers added up to $42. The food is good quality and it shows as it’s almost always busy

This is one of the best sodas in La Fortuna 100% recommend. We ordered the pollo casados and the portion was huge!! So fresh and tasty for such a reasonable price , the owner was also so friendly and made us feel so welcomed we will definitely be back
Olivia S — Google review
Best soda in la fortuna. The price is amazing and the staff gave us free shots. Portion size is great, you get a mix of everything in Costa Rican cuisine if you get their plates.
Jerry F — Google review
We had an excellent experience at Soda Viquez. Don’t be scared to sit down even if there aren’t other people eating. Glasses of water were brought to our table immediately after being seated and then we ordered mango juices as well which were really delicious. For our food we tried the sea bad with garlic and the tenderloin with mushroom sauce. Both were really good! We also received complementary rice pudding for a dessert.
Jerica F — Google review
Wonderful service, and very tasty food on the menu. We ate local fish with special sauce at the top (shrimp on the picture). It’s is definitely value for the money! Place with infant, we got equipments for the baby in plastic and the first time we found a comfy chair after a week in Costa Rica for our baby. She loved it. Ar the top of all, we got a taste of their special shot, home recipe. Don’t miss that if there’s the chance
Attila H — Google review
Great food, great service, even better price! Vegan options are only the casada or a sandwich but my gosh does the food here taste superb. Huge portions and 4,000 colones for a casada is just unreal. The service is brilliant so make sure you add a tip as they don't include service charge :)
Harshan F — Google review
Been in Costa Rica for almost 2 weeks and this is the best food I’ve had so far. So tasty. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming too. 10/10
Tom E — Google review
Recommended by my apartment manager and the soda didn’t disappoint. I wanted an authentic Costa Rican experience and received more than I bargained for. The picante chicken was excellent and bursting with spices. I wanted a little something extra and asked for a side of plantains, that weren’t on the menu. The soursop juice was fresh and quenched my thirst. The prices were very reasonable for the area. I was given free rice pudding and a shot of their homemade alcohol. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Chocolate shop
Chocolate Fusión is a delightful haven for sweet lovers located near the central park of La Fortuna. This charming chocolate and pastry shop has garnered a reputation as a must-visit spot, offering an array of delectable treats including pastries, chocolate-dipped cookies, cheesecake slices, and indulgent drinks. The inviting atmosphere is enhanced by reliable air conditioning—an oasis in the tropical heat! For coffee enthusiasts, Chocolate Fusión serves up exceptional brews reminiscent of Melbourne's café culture.
Absolutely scrumptious! The amazing coffee experience starts with a friendly and smiley staff. They are prompt to answer questions about their exquisite coffee, amazing chocolate and delicious baked goods (repostería). If you don’t speak Spanish, they can help you in English or if you want to practice ordering in Spanish, they are very patient and helpful. If you care about good quality coffee beans and brew, you must come to this place. Cheers!
Rafael H — Google review
Beautiful shop, tasty treats—but not worth the price. We stopped into Chocolate Fusion for a sweet break and enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The coffee was solid, and the chocolates were good—but not $45-for-10-chocolates-and-two-drinks good. Everything looked beautiful and was clearly made with care, but the prices felt more like luxury branding than true value. If you’re looking for a small indulgence or a gift, it’s fine—but don’t come hungry.
Dana L — Google review
Seems like a place where you will find everything you’re looking for when it comes to chocolate, treats, pastries, and even coffee. They have ice cream and coffee as well as chocolates. I give it four stars only for the fact that the prices are a bit steep for the average Costa Rica. Other than that, excellent variety.
Johnny A — Google review
Nice coffee and dessert place. Very rich chocolate flavours and beatiful interior - although note it does get very busy throughout the day. Molten lava cake was great but they did not make it warm enough. Ice cream is also nice but nothing special. European prices
Ameer A — Google review
Me & my husband came here for our honeymoon and we fell in love with this place. Every morning we’d come in order a different coffee and play chess. The atmosphere is so calm and welcoming , there’s plenty of spots to sit and relax. They have games laid around everywhere , pastries, and ice cream. A selection of all different types of coffees and drinks as well. Yarirza always served us and we looked forward to seeing her every morning and saying hi! Her hospitality was always appreciated and she was very nice and has a welcoming smile. We highlight recommended you give Chocolate Fusion a try :)
Dalyna D — Google review
Lots of options. Stopped briefly to get a piece of chocolate cake and iced coffee. Very delicious. But the cake wasnt as good the next day, so you'll want to eat it fresh.

Travesía Restaurant is a must-visit spot in La Fortuna, offering delicious food and friendly service. The casado with chicken and fish tacos are highly recommended, as well as the ceviche and the mixed meat and veggies served on a mini grill. The restaurant has a broad drink and wine menu, including options for kids. Reservations are recommended, especially around 6-7pm, even in the off-season.
Travesía Restaurant in La Fortuna is a must-visit! The entire experience was incredible — from the amazing atmosphere to the top-notch food and drinks. We started with the ceviche, which was fresh, flavorful, and a perfect way to begin the meal. For drinks, we enjoyed a perfectly made margarita and some of the best fresh fruit smoothies we had during our trip — so refreshing! The highlight was definitely their select meat option where you pick your cut, three sides, and one sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly — the meat was tender and juicy, the sides were delicious, and the sauces added the perfect finishing touch. We wrapped up with the lava cake for dessert, which was rich, gooey, and absolutely worth it. The combination of great food, fantastic drinks, and an inviting atmosphere makes Travesía a must when you’re in La Fortuna. Highly recommend!

Okay where to begin. The food was very good. All of it. Steak perfect. Shrimp tasty. Chicken juicy. Sausages great. Veggies just right. The presentation with the grill on our table... A must. It said for two people but we had a lot of leftovers and we ate a lot. Here's one thing I don't recommend... Don't get a coffee there. They use a machine making instant coffee and c'mon people we all know that's such low quality like the instant coffee you find in your workplace and they were charging way too much. I saw waiters over at that machine all night swiping and pushing buttons then patrons so happy to get their coffee not knowing its source. This place prides itself as a high quality steakhouse. Please get rid of that machine or hide it from our view. Beyond that - all prices very reasonable and food quality high. The best dinner we had during our trip. And like others mentioned, get there before 6pm for a table otherwise reservations required. We watched people getting turned away all night. The dining room is small. They take credit card and apple pay.
Brian M — Google review
This place absolutely deserves a 5 star!! We visited first time, ordered a tuna ceviche/tartare and shared a 400g ribeye steak (cost ~17,300 colones) It comes with 3 complimentary sides and 1 sauce, lots to choose from. Had our steak medium rare like how we always do, and it was the best darn steak we had. It was soft, not chewy, and it just melts. Sooooo good. We had mushroom sauce and got an extra capers sauce, both were excellent! Mash potatoes were good too! The meal was so good that we went back again for dinner the next night and it did not fail us. 😋😋 now we're thinking if we should return for thr 3rd night in a row. Haha, but anyway, if anyone is visiting la fortuna and wants a good steak, this is your go to place 👍👍👍
Jasmine C — Google review
What a great experience! We walked in around 5pm without a reservation, but we were quickly accommodated. The servers were really patient and let us practice our Spanish, even though they all speak English. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for a very touristy town. I’m so glad we found it and wish them continued success!
Adam K — Google review
Travesía Restaurant is a must-visit if you’re looking for authentic flavor, great service, and a lively atmosphere. The food was outstanding — perfectly grilled meats, fresh salads, and sides that were full of flavor. Everything tasted homemade and high-quality, and the portions were generous (great for sharing). The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and fast even though the restaurant was busy. The staff made great recommendations, and everything came out fresh and hot. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, with a true local charm that makes the dining experience even more memorable. It’s the perfect place for a family dinner, date night, or group outing. 📍 If you’re in the area and searching for the best steakhouse, authentic Latin food, or a top restaurant for groups, Travesía is the spot. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Colleen D — Google review
YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE. We got the seafood grill and the mixed grill (enough food for 4-5ish people). The meat was cooked to perfection. The melted butter was divine. The shrimp was excellent, and of course you have to get the plantain chips. We recommend the “dirty monkey” for a drink option. Servers were super attentive too.
Ava R — Google review
We got a Mixed Grill platter. The food was delicious, perhaps a bit too much for 2 people (we weren't able to finish all the potatoes...) The variety on the mixed grill platter was very pleasant but a part of the steak had just a bit too much fat cap. Chimichurri was absolutely delicious and totally made up for any fatty steak. Despite not speaking perfect English, the team made us feel incredibly welcome.

Fantastic coffee house / breakfast spot in La Fortuna! I came here and got a cappuccino, smoothie, mushroom avocado toast, and pancake and can honestly recommend all of it. The staff were very friendly, and this was also one of the cleanest / "modernist" looking eateries in the town. There was a parking lot, but I didn't see it, and the area is fine for finding parking around the streets.

Food and coffee was amazing. Ordered empanadas, mocha, and avocado toast with hummus and it was perfect. The fruit platter was also well presented and tasty. Atmosphere is very modern, clean and spacious and was a block removed from the main road so much quieter. Service was very quick (which is rare in Costa Rica). Portion sizes were generous (especially the coffee) WiFi was splotchy, but not a big deal. Fairly priced too. Highly recommend. Our best breakfast in La Fortuna!

We had a delicious meal here. They offer both vegan and meat options. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. Very good value. FLAVORFUL!!! The food was so delicious and flavorful. The pepper sauce was extremely spicy; just a little tip would be enough to add spice to your food. We enjoyed every bite of our food and would come back again. The prices were pretty reasonable as well and the plates were humongous; a lot of food so, consider your appetite before you order an appetizer or dessert.

Excellent food options for vegetarians and vegans. So glad we found this place during our visit to Costa Rica. We ate here twice during our trip. Would recommend to everyone who visit la fortuna.

Perfect spot. We ate here two nights in a row because the first was amazing. A lot of home made touches on the meals. Wether you want vegetarian options or regular beef / chicken. Meals are amazing and the service is warm and welcoming. Thank you for two amazing meals! Pura Vida!

Delicious food and smoothies. We had quesadilla, fajitas, soup and burger - everything was top!! We visited it 3 times during our 2 days stay in La Fortuna. Great staff.

The best food I’ve had in La fortuna. So many vegan options to choose from. Everyone of the staff members are so nice and the food was delicious with big portions. The yuca sticks and the sauce they come with are so good. The patacones were delicious. Their Fresh smoothies are so refreshing. They also have vegan desserts. The waiter Leandro was super sweet and nice and helped us decide what to eat. Always has a smile and so sweet. I will miss this restaurant ❤️

Don Juan Tours La Fortuna is a family-owned business that offers an educational and enjoyable experience centered around the production of coffee and chocolate. The tour takes visitors through the entire process of coffee making, from seed to cup, before delving into the world of delicious chocolate. The farm is also up for sale and boasts a prime location near Arenal volcano, offering a picturesque setting with abundant fruit trees. Visitors have praised the accommodating staff and knowledgeable guides who provide tours in both English and Spanish.
Had an amazing walk up experience! We drove up around 20 minutes before the hour or so, was able to get added in, checked in and just shopped around while we waited. We did forget bug spray but they had small cheaper bottles available there as it's really a necessity for this outdoor tour. 🦟 Our tour guide was YEN and he was great! So personable, knowledgeable, friendly and obviously loved his job. I know I asked him way too many questions about plants on the property but he knew all the answers and even walked around longer and out of the way to find examples and show me things I was looking for. We did chocolate first and then coffee. There was a little over an hour dedicated to each one and they were so much more interesting than we expected! We learned so much. It was a great add on activity for a rainy day - and was like $40 each plus tip and a bag of coffee to go of course 💁 would definitely recommend but be sure to have time, patience and a listening ear.

This tour was super fun and educational, my teens all absolutely were fully engaged throughout the whole chocolate portion of the tour and of course lost some interest when it got to coffee, but Bryan (he was so patient and hospitable!) our Tour guide made it super fun and engaging as well as interactive for them. Making our own chocolate bars from scratch cacao was absolutely a core memory made, indeed! We just did a walk up at the top of the hour, and although they said the next tour was not for close to another hour, they made an exception and started our tour within five minutes and we were just our group until halfway through a second. Group joined us. The gift shop is pricey, but has very high-quality items for purchase and the tours aren’t cheap but it’s an experience well worth it!

Jeremy did a great job leaving the tour and gave us lots of interesting pieces of information. I guess I expected there to be more coffee trees and cocoa trees but we didn't go out into the fields where the actual plantations are so having enough trees around to teach us about them was good. Making the chocolate bar was fun and learning about the different kinds of coffee was also interesting and entertaining. He found some different birds and a sloth for us to see. Overall a very good experience.

We had the best time. Our guide Alex was so informative and really went above and beyond to make sure we got to see all kinds of the nocturnal creatures. He was well versed on the cocoa growing and making process, super knowledgeable about the wildlife and threw in some very cool info on Costa Ricas history. To top it off he was friendly and fun. We made our own Chocolate bars, we saw lots of animals and had zero complaints.

We did the combo coffee and chocolate tour. We loved the experience. Our guide was very nice. He explained the process really well. We made chocolates and coffee from scratch which was included in the experience. They also gave us complimentary chocolate to eat the coffee was delicious. We bought some nice coffee and cacao tea in the end.

We the the combo chocolate and wild life tour. We were the last group of the night so it was nice to have to whole place to our selves. Tour guide Alex was super informative and he brought his binoculars which really helped us get up close to the animals. I really enjoyed learning about the chocolate making process it was very informative.

I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Costa Rica, especially if you like coffee and chocolate. Our guide Kairo was very informative. He showed us step by step how coffee and chocolate are made. We got to make our own chocolate bar. We tried the coffee. Loved it!!

Awesome tour! We tagged along on a 10am tour and Jeremy did a great job! They kept adding latecomers to his tour, and even then he was able to integrate us and was able to answer all the questions we had! Sampling the coffees as well as making our own chocolate was the highlight of the tour. Definitely a must!

Selina is a vibrant hotel with various accommodation options including dorms, rooms, and tepees. The property boasts a restaurant/bar and an outdoor pool for guests to enjoy. Situated near Arenal National Park, there are plenty of hiking opportunities such as the La Fortuna waterfall hike and guided tours of Arenal volcano. Guests have praised the unique teepee tents for their comfort and security features like locking doors.
I highly recommend this place! We spent a few days there and enjoyed great food, excellent service, and fantastic advice for exploring the local area. It’s in the city, so very well located. They even organised a wonderful tour of a local market. The rooms are really cool, especially the teepee tents, and the location next to the river makes it even better. Highly recommended!

An average hotel in a fantastic location. My partner and I stayed in a private suite. It was smaller than expected and was in need some updating. While it wasn’t unclean, it didn’t feel like it was the cleanest room either. The bed was moderately comfortable but incredibly creaky and made a noise anytime either of us moved. The shower was great though and had really strong pressure and good soap/shampoo. Service was nothing special either. We couldn’t get coffee in the afternoon and the bar closed at 10pm so we had to take our drinks back to our room as it was raining and there wasn’t a lot of places to sit. Service seemed a bit slow when we needed something. The included breakfast only had a few options but a larger menu for charge. We didn’t use the pool, massage, or tour booking services but they were available. The best part is the location. It’s downtown La Fortuna so it was very easy to walk to different restaurants in the town. We also never had issues with getting to tours or other experiences. As a couple in our 30s, it was fine, but I wouldn’t stay here again if other options were available, especially for the value and the price. It seems like it could be a great place for a young, solo traveler, or for younger couples/groups.

LOVED our stay! This had everything we needed and more. We were able to park on site and it included a pool, bar, riverfront outdoor yoga area, fire pit, and more. Felt like a more affordable version of a resort. The locations was also great - walkable to all the restaurants, grocery store, atm, etc. and only a 30 min drive from Arenal Volcano.

Any business should make money—it’s the first rule of being able to grow and develop. However, in this place, they took it to another level. I have been to other places in Costa Rica, so I have a basis for comparison. This is the first place I have ever been where they charged for cold water to fill my bottle. Even in hot countries like India and Morocco, I was never asked to pay for that! On top of that, I previously stayed in a place that cost only $7 per night, with a large kitchen where I could cook, plus an ice machine, free coffee, sugar, herbs, and everything was super clean. By the way in hot country you drink alot and it just made me shop at the near supermarket since I will never buy from hotel which doesn't give the basic of cold water and asks for rediculas price for a drink. So at the bottom line the supermarket earn what they could. At the Socialtel, as someone who eats gluten-free, I struggled to find food that wasn’t just rice or potatoes. I asked if they could cook the gluten-free spaghetti I had bought from the supermarket, and while they kindly agreed, I was still charged the full price of a dish—which is ridiculous. Even worse, after cooking the box myself, I realized it contained enough for three meals, meaning they kept the rest of my food for themselves. But all of that is nothing compared to what I discovered at the end of my stay. Some of my essential medications, which I had stored in the restaurant fridge (since there was no shared fridge), were stolen. These medications are vital for my survival! Fortunately, I had brought enough, but this is absolutely unacceptable! The only reason I did not went to the police is that my Taxi arrived and I past to a location which is not same auttorities. On the surface, everything looks fine—nice and clean—but when you look deeper, it’s a different story.

I had a private with en-suite. The room was huge and well maintained. Even had a balcony with a view of the volcano. Pool and bar were also very good - highlight was meeting local iguana, Pedro!

I had such a wonderful stay from my first day. I wish I could’ve stayed longer. Great for solo travelers. Met so many cool people, good shared spaces that promote that social hostel vibe you want, and nice pool. Everything felt clean, multiple bathroom options on-site, a yoga studio overlooking the jungle and river. I couldn’t have asked for more from a hostel. My bed was comfy, room felt clean, nice storage for stuff in the bed. I have no complaints besides the bar being a little pricey but byo stuff solved that. Such a magical stay in a magical place.

The good stuff first - Great location, friendly staff, nice pool. Downtown, you can walk to restaurants, bus stands, and has parking incase you have your own car. However more geared towards the backpacker. For a family, might be a little loud at night. Not great: the rooms are not the best, a little dirty, nothing too bad, but for what it cost, it might not be value for money.
Karan S — Google review
The hostel's location is excellent, and the front desk staff are wonderful. I stayed in a spacious 6-person dormitory, and the rooms and bathrooms were well-maintained, although bed curtains were missing. The pool area is fantastic, and the communal kitchen is very useful. The restaurant and bar offer good food and drinks, but the service from the waitstaff could be more courteous.

Jungle Bowls is a popular spot in Costa Rica for those seeking a delicious and healthy meal. The menu offers refreshing smoothie bowls made with locally sourced ingredients, such as pitaya (red dragon fruit) and macadamia nuts. Toppings like raw cashew butter, almond butter, and peanut butter without additives add unique flavors to the bowls.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jungle Bowls It was the perfect, generously portioned, refreshing & well balanced meal with incredible service. Owner Michelle is so genuinely kind & has put her heart and soul in offering fresh nutritionally balanced bowls to the area. It was so good we had to go there 4 days in a row! We tried the Mango Mia and Rica Cacao bowl—both were very delicious, but we had to keep going back for the Mia Mango. Each bowl is hand crafted to a delicious perfection that hits the spot every time. This is a not-to-be-missed stop as you will have missed out on a culinary delight experience. The combination of fresh ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and friendly service makes Jungle Bowls stand out in the best possible way.

Save yourself the disappointment of The most horrible tasting açai bowls. Nothing Pina about the colado bowl. It straight up tasted like bananas with no sugar in them. Bowls were very bland. They needed more of something. The flavor is definitely clashed. I love coconut, and this is my first time that I will tell you that the texture was just completely off. For us to spend almost US$50 just to get this foolishness is very disappointing. The bowls look good however they do not taste good at all. They took about 20 minutes when we were the only ones waiting for our bowls. Please revamp your technique and your vision on how to make your bowls because they do not taste good.

Absolutely delicious! 10 out of 10 would eat again! We got the Pitaya Luna bowl and I wish I didn’t share. The almond butter was great and the granola was a hit. The bowls were a great size but the price was expensive. So just think about the quality instead of price. I want to come again to try other bowls.

I got the watermelon jolly roncher. It was pretty good. It was a big bowl that I couldn’t even finish. If there’s 2 people I recommend just get 1 bowl. It cost me $15USD

This place has the best smoothie bowls you've ever had. We came twice for lunch after busy mornings -- make sure you're hungry, these bowls are large. It does get busy at the lunch hour so there might be a wait but it's worth it. I got Mango Mia and my fiance had the Rica Cacao bowl -- so good but we liked our other bowls even more: the Pitaya Hermosa and the Blueberry Magia. Everything was so fresh, tasty, and clearly made with a lot of care and attention.
Tanja B — Google review
This was by far the worst bowl I’ve ever tried. The mango was not good it tasted like it had been sitting there for a while, so bland and overripe. I took out the mango to see if it may just be that but even the base doesn’t taste like the right one its way different and flavorless.
Sophia M — Google review
Extremely delicious smoothie bowls. The portions are huge and the amount of topping is overwhelming. The taste is amazing. Would definitely recommend for at delicious and healthy vegan breakfast or lunch. You won't be hungry afterwards. I had the Mia Mango Moonlight and my husband had the Tropical Love. I think his smoothie base was best because of the tropical taste, but I liked my toppings more (the granola and cashew butter was phenomenal).

Café Perro Barista is a delightful gem in La Fortuna that truly captures the essence of local coffee culture. During my stay, I found myself returning almost daily to savor their Costa Rican pour-over coffee, which was consistently exceptional. The menu boasts an array of delicious options, from scrumptious sandwiches and empanadas to indulgent ice cream bars and dessert croissants—each dish crafted with care and bursting with flavor.
The Cafe's staff were friendly and provided great service. The coffee was tasty and well presented. The food was good, but the waffles were extra sweet due to being sprinkled with sugar. That's a personal preference, so to each their own. It might be nice to be given the option. Prices were competitive for the area.

I'm so glad we found this local cafe. It was so good that we went both days in Fortuna. We got a cortado and latte. Both so good that they rival some of the best we get in NYC which is a real compliment. We highly recommend this cafe If you're in the area and prices are very reasonable. They take credit card and apple pay.

This was our favorite La Fortuna coffee shop. We ended up going almost every day we were there. The coffee here is great (as is the aircon) and the staff were so lovely! They spent ages explaining the vandola pour over method that’s unique to Costa Rica and told us about the first ever coffee shop in Costa Rica located in San Jose. They also had a great selection of pastries and croissants!

We thoroughly enjoyed everything at this coffee shop! I had Costa Rican pour over style with the Vandola almost every day we were in La Fortuna. We loved the food. We tried the sandwiches and the empanada, we tried the ice cream bars and the desert croissant. Everything we had was excellent, and the service was excellent! Our kids loved the food as well , which was an awesome plus. Andres the owner and Enrique were awesome! They also had air conditioning and ice water which was a nice touch. We love trying coffee shops back home in the United States, and this coffee shop was great!

Bogarin Coffee Shop is a hidden gem in Costa Rica, offering an amazing atmosphere and delicious food. The cafe is surrounded by colorful birds and a pond where they put out fruit to attract the wildlife. The staff is friendly and accommodating, even helping patrons learn how to order food in Spanish. Visitors can enjoy iced coffee with milk and cinnamon rolls, as well as great smoothies.
This is the best place I’ve eaten so far in Costa Rica. The atmosphere is amazing, there’s a pond out front where they put fruit and the birds all come to feed so you’re surrounded by so many colorful birds. The service is great, our waiter was incredibly helpful when ordering and spoke great English. They even helped us learn how to properly order food in Spanish. The food was the best part though. Their iced coffee with milk and cinnamon roll are great. The cinnamon role was perfectly warm and sweet, but light on the glaze so you could really taste the roll, which is great since most cinnamon rolls are mostly glaze. They’re sirloin and red wine pasta was delicious. And the banana smoothie is one of the best things I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. Overall an amazing place to visit if you enjoy birdwatching and good food.

Enjoyed a great breakfast here. They accommodated my wife’s unique request for a brisket omelet and it didn’t disappoint! Bacon was just okay - more “hammie” than I’m accustomed to, but that’s probably a “me” thing.

Good food and great smoothies in a casual atmosphere. The cafe is attached to trails full of sloths, dart frogs, basilisks, and of course birds. The staff was super friendly and ver accommodating of my terrible-to-nonexistent Spanish. Good for locals and tourist alike! (Followed the other review stating he wish he found it sooner, it was spot on and I’m glad I did. It’s a little off the beaten path (down a gravel road by the Bogarin trail), but well worth the adventure. As it’s a limited menu, the cook / proprietor is happy to mix and match ingredients, in my case one day I had the brisket omelette, the next the pulled pork omelette, neither on the menu (they had them A’s sandwiches for lunch), but both came out terrific with cheese, tomatoes, onions and sweet peppers as well. The staff was very pleasant and understanding with my Spanglish, but we worked together to have success. I’m not a coffee drinker, but their selection looked top notch and saw many happy consumers. It’s right next to the private reserve, though their “happy hour” in the evening was hit and miss (was not open at closing when I did the trail). If I find myself in the area again I’ll be happy to go back, maybe even make a detour!

Surprisingly awesome!! Definitely a recommendation for all potential coffee lovers! The host Matthias, the owner of a high class coffee plantation near manuel antonio, shows and explains everything about gourmet coffee. We made the 2 hour coffee tour and learned a lot about the coffee plants, the relevant factors for the tast, different kinds of roasting and even about the economical background of selling coffee. Highly entertaining and a perfect to do for an afternoon after a exhausting morning hike!

If you want a taste some of the best local Costa Rican coffee with a very welcoming and knowledgeable host, this is the place to go. The host, Matthias, went to a SUNY (State University of New York) college. His English was impeccable, but his coffee was even better! My group and I stopped here for lunch and were highly satisfied with our meal. We ordered a variety of entrees. I loved the chick souvlaki!! So unique and fresh. Sebastian was a wonderful host and waiter; and catered to our child. I definitely recommend coming here for any meal!

Wonderful breakfast - had the open avocado toast, the open breakfast, açai bowl and latte- all delicious. Bread was super fresh. Service was friendly. We are in Costa Rica for a friend’s 30th birthday. We came to Open Kitchen for brunch. The atmosphere, food and service were all so lovely. The covered patio has tables that view the volcano. Our server was Sebastian and he was knowledgeable with our questions and super friendly. We wish we were staying here longer just so we could return!

I loved everything about this restaurant!! The atmosphere and aesthetic was very nice. There was a sweet pup roaming around, as an animal person I enjoyed this very much. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu as we did have a couple questions. The food though…oh my gosh! Some of the best we had our whole trip! I had a yogurt, granola (I’m sorry I forgot the name!!) and fruit dish. I loved all the fresh fruit! My husband said his avocado toast was amazing. My son had the pancakes and my daughter had this pastry with cheese and spinach. This was the show stopper! It was so good I’m going to attempt to make something similar at home, although it won’t be the same! I honestly can’t stop thinking about it!!

Convenient spot for a Western breakfast in La Fortuna. A little on the pricey side but all of their ingredients are quality & their coffee hits the spot. I ordered the Acai Bowl (organic Acai, almond milk, banana, strawberries, blackberries, topped w/ coconut, seasonal fruit (papaya & pineapple), chia seeds, dried goji berries, and granola. Good sized bowl for 5900, making for a light and refreshing meal. They also make some wicked shakes for about 3000 if you're looking for more of a beverage alternative. Otherwise the menu has Nutella pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, and a hot n savory shakshuka chorizo (which my fiance absolutely loved and recommends). They have another location in Monteverde if you find yourself there!

Best restaurant in La Fortuna!! They make all of their own breads, including the best pita and challah! They use all fresh ingredients and a wide variety of options… kind of a Mediterranean fusion. We had the beetroot burgers and fresh cut fries and the babagonoush/fresh pita appetizer. Sebastian was our server and spoke Spanish and English. He delivered great service! I highly recommend! Easy access just a block or two from the main park/plaza. Pura Vida!!!

Delicious espresso! We came here and got a plain latté, a mocha, their cinnamon roll and almond croissant. Was about $20 - a little more expensive than other places but we knew that coming here. I liked my latte a lot - strong espresso flavor and my wife enjoyed her mocha. The cinnamon roll had a croissant texture and would recommend trying. Overall best latte I’ve had so far and would definitely order again. Great location with tons of covered outdoor seating and a beautiful view from the back. It is on the main road up to the volcano so it can get a little noisy. Overall would definitely recommend.

Wonderful stop for coffee and pastries before our hike. Wished we stayed longer! (Instead of getting to-go). Genuine and friendly staff. Excellent service. The owner Joshua came by to say hi is very nice. Tried their pour-over with yummy cheese croissant which was served warm. Complimentary mini coffee tasting of 3 different types of drip coffee. The place has a lovely ambiance with canopy view. Had I stayed to hang out a little longer I wonder if I would have spot some toucans or lucky enough to spot a sloth! There’s also a small gift shop. If I were to visit La Fortuna again I will definitely return! Thank you, kind staff!

We learnt a lot about coffee thanks to the owner (or at least this is what we think he is) that kindly explained us the roasting process and different qualities of coffee, as well as the methods of the dripped coffee, from the Japanese to the German one. Coffee was great and meticoulosly prepared, the banana bread was also delicious! Plus, you enjoy all this sitting on a chair overlooking the forest and the trees. Totally worth the money, but don’t forget to be curious and talk with the guy/owner asking some info.

our go to coffee place in La Fortuna! we went here everyday while we were here. the espresso and chai here are delicious, with warm banana bread, pastries and an array of different croissants - we loved the almond! Everyone here was so kind and welcoming. the views are beautiful and you’re surrounded by nature with the sounds of birds and rain is so relaxing. highly recommend!
Milap D — Google review
The best coffee we had in La Fortuna for sure! Very cozy vibes and the owner and staff in general are super friendly. As a huge plus you can also see a lot of wildlife

was staying in La Fortuna for 3 days and came here all three days!!! my vanilla latte was one of the best i’ve ever had, yummy pastries, the staff was so sweet and sitting and bird watching was so fun. i will be dreaming of this place!

Great iced coffee with a lovely view out back. Good washroom facilities if needed. The pastries were tasty as well. Stopped for the punny name and it exceeded expectations.

Vaca Púrpura Coffee Shop is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. The barista is highly skilled and the roaster ensures that the beans are sourced and roasted to perfection. Their Orosi Cartago medium roast is particularly popular among customers. Apart from their excellent coffee, they also serve incredibly delicious hot chocolate, which some claim to be the best in the world, made with 75% cacao.
It became our place to go for coffee every day we were in la fortune and the service they provide us with it was amazing. 100% recommend
Jason R — Google review
They have very delicious hot chocolate. Maybe the best hot chocolate in the world! I like chocolate caliente 75% cacao! And the ladies are very friendly!
Jakob L — Google review
Great coffee. Great barista. Qualified roaster. Gets her beans roasted and sourced the way she likes them. Liked the coffee enough to buy a bag of Orosi Cartago medium roast.

Without a doubt the best place for coffee in la Fortuna, come to think of it maybe the best coffee I've had since I'm in Costa Rica...

I got a cup of coffee with a Irish liquor and it was delicious! I also liked the cake! Btw, at the next door you can buy some delicious chocolate ;)

Please like my review if you find it helpful. Fantastic local specialty coffee. The owner is a fabulous woman, very very friendly and she makes amazing drip or expressed coffee. We went 2 days in a row to enjoy our morning roast. You can also buy coffee from here. She also makes an amazing ice coffee. Little snack you can order also. There is a small bar that you can sit at to sip and enjoy the view. Worth it and inexpensive. Right across the street from the beautiful park.

While I am not a coffee drinker, my wife drinks enough for both of us. She loved this place so I'm giving it a five star rating on her behalf. We think you'll love it, too.
Richard N — Google review
In my opinion, this is the best coffee shop in Costa Rica. Cafe con leche was sooooo good. They accept both $ and colon, but considering the exchange rate, paying colon seems cheaper.

Espresso bar
Amorini Café y Gelato is highly recommended for its delicious crepes and delightful Moccacino. Visitors also praise the wonderful iced coffee, making it a great spot to celebrate Costa Rica's independence day.
Amazing crepe!! Really good quality with fresh toppings. The ice cream however was not great
Hilwa G — Google review
Employee wouldn’t make espresso and the ice cream was incredibly mediocre. They don’t allow samples because they know you wouldn’t buy it
Shira L — Google review
The employee refused to make an espresso for us and the chocolate gelato was not right. It tasted like mint and the employees were no help when we inquired.

(Translated by Google) I love the crepes and the ice creams are delicious, I don't know why the comments about the customer service here are so bad if every time I go they are always so friendly and cute, I imagine that the customers who leave bad reviews are the same ones who want to arrive at any place demanding that everything be brought to their table as if the employees received 10%, or simply people so hateful and unempathetic that they never get along with anything. Anyway, my favorite ice cream shop forever.

(Translated by Google) Customer service was good. I don't understand the other reviews saying it's bad, either they're not justified, or they've fixed this problem. The ice cream was very good and the crepe was good. The prices are expensive. Either we're stupid in Spain or they're very clever here in Costa Rica, but it's impossible that these types of products are cheaper in tourist areas of Spain.

(Translated by Google) Too good, the best crepe I have ever eaten. And the delicious Moccacino too. Super recommended. (Original) Demasiado bueno, la mejor crepa que he comido. Y el Moccacino delicioso tambien. Super recomentado.
Lisseth C — Google review
(Translated by Google) The customer service is terrible; the waiters seem like you're asking for things for free! They're just stern faces and a terrible attitude. The coffees are also pretty awful; the mocha tastes like chocolate water. I don't recommend it!
