The 40 best cheap eats in La Fortuna de San Carlos

Excellent restaurant! We made a reservation for 5:30pm which was perfect because we got to step out and see the sunset at 6pm (see photo below with a clear view of the volcano)! The drinks were delicious! We ordered the Moroccan Salad (fantastic, flavorful, perfect portion for sharing between two people), the kabocha squash risotto with shrimp (tasty, a little too heavy for my liking but the flavors were solid! Too much food for one person), and the mushroom lasagna with squash (excellent choice for a vegetarian, flavorful, well constructed - didn’t fall apart, filling). Quite pricey for what you get but if you’re willing to spend a little extra, it’s a good experience!

Had an amazing birthday dinner here. We ordered the tasting menu, the staff provided phenomenal service and every dish wowed us! So much flavor in every bite. I had the standard wine pairing and it was 100% the right choice. The staff truly made our time here exceptional. Come see for yourself!

The fresh local beer was great, and the octopus was perfectly served and beautifully balanced with rich flavor. The banana dessert was incredibly fresh. This place should definitely be on Michelin’s list. I only wish they delivered to NYC!

The best way to celebrate my 40th birthday dinner! Delicious food and wonderful service. The fried shrimp furikake, the tenderloin & and the Almond Financier were the highlights of this dinner - simply amazing. Best restaurant so far in Costa Rica. My husband and I both agree that we had the best meals during our week long stay in La Fortuna at Don Rufino! We were absolutely floored that we both ate for under $30 USD and had some left overs as well. The atmosphere and service was equally amazing. Some menu options are more expensive, but don’t worry if you don’t want to spend much because the lower price options blew our socks off. I had the Grilled beef sirloin, and he had the Costa Rican Casado from the lunch menu shown. 1000% recommended, we will go back on our return trip later this year

This is one of the best sodas in La Fortuna 100% recommend. We ordered the pollo casados and the portion was huge!! So fresh and tasty for such a reasonable price , the owner was also so friendly and made us feel so welcomed we will definitely be back

Best soda in la fortuna. The price is amazing and the staff gave us free shots. Portion size is great, you get a mix of everything in Costa Rican cuisine if you get their plates.

We had an excellent experience at Soda Viquez. Don’t be scared to sit down even if there aren’t other people eating. Glasses of water were brought to our table immediately after being seated and then we ordered mango juices as well which were really delicious. For our food we tried the sea bad with garlic and the tenderloin with mushroom sauce. Both were really good! We also received complementary rice pudding for a dessert.

Wonderful service, and very tasty food on the menu. We ate local fish with special sauce at the top (shrimp on the picture). It’s is definitely value for the money! Place with infant, we got equipments for the baby in plastic and the first time we found a comfy chair after a week in Costa Rica for our baby. She loved it. Great food, great service, even better price! Vegan options are only the casada or a sandwich but my gosh does the food here taste superb. Huge portions and 4,000 colones for a casada is just unreal. The service is brilliant so make sure you add a tip as they don't include service charge :)

Recommended by my apartment manager and the soda didn’t disappoint. I wanted an authentic Costa Rican experience and received more than I bargained for. The picante chicken was excellent and bursting with spices. I wanted a little something extra and asked for a side of plantains, that weren’t on the menu. The soursop juice was fresh and quenched my thirst. The prices were very reasonable for the area. I was given free rice pudding and a shot of their homemade alcohol. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Loved this place for casados and typical Costa Rican food! We came twice for casados, highly recommend the pork chop Casado. Great service, ambiance and food.

Soo good and economic. The drinks are made there and taste fresh. The plate of food was just the typical breakfast that I had been looking for. You can splurge and have other sides which also look appetizing. But with the plate that I got it was good enough to fill me for a strong breakfast.

Tasty tasty food! I came here for breakfast and lunch and it was delicious! Staff is friendly, place is clean. It does get busy but waiting time is not too crazy. They have parking towards the back. Highly recommended!

We love the ambiance and the place settings, but that's where the pros end. The cons: my wife's salmon wasn't cooked all the way through; her piña colada had next to no alcohol. I asked for a hamburger with no lettuce and the meat to be medium well. I still got lettuce on the burger and the meat was more like medium rare. My French fries were below quality and undercooked. The appetizer, avocado with shrimp topping was the one redeeming part of the meal. We won't return, even though we had a 10% off coupon from the hotel we chose to stay in while visiting La Fortuna.

Good food and great service! We came as a group of 8 without a reservation and they were able to seat us immediately (it’s not super crowded in La Fortuna right now). Our food came out quickly as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food wasn’t the best we’ve ever had, but still pretty solid!

Overall really good experience! We gave this place a 4/5 stars because it was good but not the best Italian food we’ve ever had. The place definitely had a romantic feel like we were expecting and the service was excellent - our servers were awesome! I ordered the Pasta Carbonara (which I believe they used cream in) and my wife the Salmon and mashed Potatoes (not pictured). Everything was really good but a little under seasoned. It was definitely a very large portion of salmon for the price - which is definitely a win!Would recommend for a nice romantic dinner that still isn’t too expensive.

Excellent for families. Service was great and food was good. Ordered drinks and pizza while my kids played next to us in the playroom. Might have been the most fun they had on the trip!

This pizzeria was recommended to us by an employee of a car rental company in Fortuna – and it was a very good decision. The pizza could even be ordered with extras – it was fantastic, the crust crispy – it was cooked in a wood-fired oven. The local craft beers – IPA and Golden Pale Ale – were also very good! The prices are slightly higher, but in line with the good quality of the food. The service was very attentive, but not intrusive. The pizzeria is highly recommended – we'd happily return another time.

I had a group of 6 people and we ate here. This place is so delicious. The ambience is amazing! I got a medium vegetarian pizza and it was delicious. They had options for everyone.

The food wasn’t very authentic and the tacos and casados have been options for cheaper in walking distance. This place is aimed at tourists for sure. the service was good, and Christian was friendly and spoke great english.

Looking for a place to have dinner in la Fortuna we found this restaurant right next to the park, the food was not only delicious but served very quickly, the waiter was kind and attentive and the price was very good considering location and how good the food was! Highly recommended!

This restaurant is easy to find and kind of right in the center of town across from the park. I went earlier in the day for lunch and it was empty; however a few people were there when I left. The food was good and the passion fruit/dragon fruit smoothie good too. I did take a minute for the waiter to bring the check after he took my plate away; however, that is no big deal for me as I was enjoying the view and the weather.

My husband and I had dinner and we really enjoyed our food. I’d say stick with the “comida típica” instead of the Americanized entrees. Food was good, we loved the fruit juices. customer service was ok, could have been better. They charged 500 colones for more tortilla chips for the ceviche which didn’t make sense but oh well. Prices are a bit higher compared to other local restaurants. Overall, I’m rating for the food we did have.

Exceptional restaurant. Great food, great service and open environment. We were looking for something healthy for lunch. This place exceeded our expectations. We tried the quinoa salad with fresh mango. Beautiful presentation and flavor. The mango quinoa combo tasted amazing. We also tried the falafel sandwich with lightly fried or baked yucca. The sandwich came with lettuce, hummus, thinly sliced dill pickles and possibly onions. Not sure about the onions. I ate it so fast, I can't remember. The yucca sticks were served with homemade yellow mustard sauce. They also gave us homemade ketchup. This place was amazing. Might go back and play music for them tomorrow. Hope to try the deserts as well. Don't forget they add the tip and tax. It added about 20% to our bill.

We enjoyed our meal here! They have a good mix of vegan and non vegan options. The soup was delicious. The nachos were decent but a bit soggy, my husband loved his meal. I would probably skip dessert and opt for a smoothie in the future!

Tasty food but expensive imo! More expensive than vegan restaurants in the U.S. High quality food but for $44 dollars for drink, meal and dessert, I would consider cheaper options first. Healthy good food, great service and the server and workers are very friendly!

I NEEDED that healing food after a strenuous day. The vit c + anti inflammatory shot took some pain away. 😊 the green juice is thick! You can taste the kale. The prices are good and so many vegan options! The nachos are so good too. I needed some comfort food. I will try more items.

This place is amazing!! We went for breakfast one day and went back for lunch the next day! We had the same waitress both days and she was amazing. I drink water extremely fast and she was on top of the refills! The first day we got the Tico breakfast burrito and Protein bowl-both amazing. The next day for lunch we got the chicken sandwich, happiness bowl, green energy smoothie & brownie with ice cream. Everything here is so good and the food comes out so cute. Can’t recommend this place enough!!!

Delicious! They have so many great options for Costa Rican cuisine and the prices are good as well. Very happy we came here. I really recommend the loin strips with the sweet plantain, corn, and papaya hash.

This place was so good when we came for lunch that we came back for dinner the same day. The atmosphere is great and we loved the patio feel. Both our servers were very attentive, helpful, and took very good care of us. The mixed ceviche was great. Typically I'm apprehensive about octopus, but it was tender and tasty. The coffee is so good! I really loved my patacones and went on to get several orders of these throughout our trip, but none as good as Tiquicia's The steak was perfectly cooked and juicy and delicious. We also got the pineapple dessert with the fire show and that was both cool to watch and very tasty. You have to eat here if you're in La Fortuna! We wish we could go back.

Best meal in our La Fortuna 3 Day stay hands-down. The special last night was a steak medallion dish that was so good, we ordered it twice. Our server was incredibly kind and generous - we felt right at home. My only regret was that we didn't visit Tiquicia on our first meal, as this would have been our daily dining go-to.

Osman took great care of us, suggested us great stuff from the menu and overall food quality was great. So glad we found this place off a sub-Reddit.

Chifa La Familia Feliz is a gem in La Fortuna. It’s a small, family-run spot, mom and dad cooking in the kitchen, and their son welcomed us when we arrived. The food is fresh, flavorful, and felt home cooked yet elevated. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next night. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food with great vegan options. The fruit drinks were also great - made with real/ fresh fruits and were not loaded with added sugar. If you love tasty Peruvian food you’ll want to check this place out.

Small low-key family run restaurant. Service is slow but you're in Costa Rica so Pura vida. The food was top notch and we'll worthy the wait. They hours are very unusual as they open at 2pm close around 730pm

I had a great experience at this Peruvian restaurant! The ceviche was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of citrus. The lomo saltado was also delicious — tender beef, well-seasoned, and served with crispy fries and rice. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Highly recommend

Chifa La Familia Feliz offers amazing food and a welcoming atmosphere. The owner, Martín, greeted us at the door with the biggest smile and took care of everything; serving, cooking, and even bartending, without missing a beat. The sangria and Mixed Ceviche are a must-try combo. If you only have one night in La Fortuna, make sure to stop by this spot!

I certainly liked the ambiance from the moment I walked in. It tries to be upscale, it has hints of that with a wall of wine bottles behind condensation-laden glass, but in reality it's a pretty casual restaurant. The menu is varied with everything from seafood to steak and much more in between. We had a very nice server, friendly without giving us too much disruptive attention. Food presentation was nicely done, definitely on the upscale side, but the taste wasn't. The steak was juicy but not well seasoned. Ceviche was good, but the seabass was overly salted. Considering the dinner cost as much as it does in the New York region, this was an unexpected disappointment.

We decided to try this place as our Airbnb suggested it. We read the reviews and thought the negative comments were just one offs. They were not. They are scummy by "upgrading" whatever you ordered without telling you. We ordered a ceviche to share, which the menu showed as 4200 colones. When the bill came, it was 8000c for qty 1, which was never on the menu. They decided to give us a larger portion and charged us accordingly. As for the mains, we ordered from their special menu that is just provided verbally from the server. The prices weren't mentioned. That's our fault for not asking. They ended up charging 14000c for the first main, and 18500c for the other. I wouldn't mind paying this but the food tasted terrible. I spent 10 days in Costa Rica, and this was the worst meal I had. This place is quite hidden, I hope it stays that way so no one dines here. Also, lots of dead bugs on the tables, moved to different tables twice.

Christopher's cocktails are above and beyond. We made multiple trips to visit him at the bar. He took the time to come up with fun and inventive cocktails that weren't always on the menu, they were beautiful and delicious! He made our time at Nenes a delight!

One of the highlights for our family was spending time with the friendly pets: two cats, a dog, and even a large pig wandering around the property! One of the best places we ever visited. It is very special and magical. And what makes it unforgettable is people and animals. The owner and her family are just the nicest, sweetest people that in addition to having this place, also rescue animals. We enjoyed the interactions with both humans and animals tremendously as well as delicious food. My daughter also got to paint her own wooden plaque that they will hang in the restaurant. We enjoyed a company of 3 friendliest cats and 4 dogs. When we got downstairs we met a very cute and happy piggie. It was an experience we will never ever forget.

We loved everything about this local family owned restaurant! Walking through the signs was so much fun and very unique! We got to make our own sign which was really cool! The food was perfect. All local fresh ingredients. We got to meet Mama and she was the sweetest! Don’t skip on this place! So glad we went because it has been one of our favorite experiences. But if you're like us and offer a treat or two, prepare to be showered with furry affection! The food itself was incredible—fresh, hearty, and full of homemade flavor. It reminded me of my grandma’s cooking: simple, comforting, and made with love. If you're expecting upscale dining with cocktails and steakhouse vibes, this might not be your scene. But if you're looking for a cozy, down-to-earth spot filled with personality, local flavor, and the warmth of Costa Rican hospitality, I can’t recommend this place enough. The charming décor, pet-friendly vibe, and genuine service make it a standout experience.

What a find!!! I found this place on Reddit (R/CostaRicaTravel) and I am so happy we went! Fantastic atmosphere, really good food, and the staff were so kind. The cats and the dog we met were the sweetest!! One cat in particular was with us the whole meal, but she added to the experience of us making sure she didn’t hop on the table 😅 she was a very nice cat!

Our experience at Restaurante Los Rodríguez was stellar! A friend recommended that we pay this spot a visit, and we couldn’t have been more blown away by how unique it was. We loved the charm of dining in a makeshift tree house at night, especially covered in handwritten paintings from visitors around the world. Upon arrival to our table we were given our own placard and paint to leave others a note, which the staff displays after your visit. The food was delightful and local to Costa Rica. They offer a rotating menu with 8 dishes per day that vary depending on when you go, and what time of year. We enjoyed pork ribs and chicken tacos during our vacation in May. The staff were attentive and we enjoyed their committment to supporting the local cats and dogs. We had a lovely kitty and dog friend resting by our feet while we ate – don’t worry, they were respectful and know not to bother you! The owner thanked us for dining at her soda, and she was visibly very grateful that her homegrown business is gaining traction. We highly recommend this local soda – it was the best we tried in La Fortuna!

This place was recommended by a lady at the front desk at our hotel, the Royal Corin Hotel, and this restaurant did not disappoint. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all great. It was so good that I visited twice during my 3-day stay in La Fortuna. Highly recommended! You MUST go during your stay.

Restaurant atmosphere was very nice. It’s a small place and parking is restricted, however. The food was delicious. We ordered the ceviche, tropical chicken, the beef tenderloin (twice, it was that good!), and the passionfruit cheesecake. The ceviche was fresh-tasting and had lemon flavors. The tropical chicken was a blend of tender, savory chicken with grilled pineapple. The beef tenderloin was the highlight of the night. We ordered medium-rare and the meat was very tender. The flavors of the steak used coffee which was unlike anything I tasted before. So creamy and sweet with such a unique blend! Finally, the passionfruit cheesecake was the perfect way to end the night.

Must order the fish and shrimp soup. WOW! My fiancé mentioned he really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. Lovely service and affordable prices.

This place was way better than expected. Both mine and my nieces meals were great. We started with the ceviche which was standard fish ceviche. For entrees I got the classic Costa Rican steak with rice,beans,veggies, plantains, and she got the kids burger which was massive. It blew ourbhotels food out of the water. Good prices too! Atmosphere was relaxing and music is nice acoustic guitar stuff. Service was amazing and they were on point with the timing and very happy. Definitely check this place out.

Visited for lunch with family, food was okay but somewhat disappointing, based on previous reviews we had high expectations. Fish had strong “fishy” taste and shrimp didn’t taste fresh. I didn’t finish my plate. Burger and fries were good. Kids ordered crepes and ice cream for dessert and did not eat it. Service was great!

This was my second trip to C.R. Stayed 11 days a few years ago and 5 days this go around. This was easily the best dinner I have had across La Fortuna, Tamarindo, & San Jose. Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and Emanuel went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. We are planning to start visiting once a year and this will be a must stop for us! Thanks so much and keep it up!

The best meal in CR hands down! The food was out of this world. Our server was attentive and kind. We ordered the deep fried snapper fish with jumbo shrimp, garlic muscles and fried calamari. It comes with a side of plain rice, fresh garden salad, mashed potatoes and steamed veges. Try their fried yuca it’s so soft and crispy on the outside. It was so good we finished it all. Everything came out quickly. I will definitely go back here

I had a great experience at Snappers House. The whole fried snapper was hands down the best fried fish I’ve ever had — crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. I also tried the shrimp ceviche, and even though it was my first time having ceviche, I was seriously impressed. It was fresh, zesty, and absolutely delicious. The portions are very generous — I had enough leftovers to enjoy for two more days! Highly recommend if you’re craving fresh, well-seasoned seafood and hearty portions.

Great service, friendly staff, nice atmosphere! I had shrimp tacos, and dad had fish tacos (they come with 3 each). They were very good. Mom had the shrimp quesadilla, salad, and fries. It was probably big enough to share and also very good. Everything tasted great and fresh with all the veggie toppings.

Me and my partner came for dinner on my 40th Birthday and it did not disappoint. Emmanuel was a wonderful server and recommended the Calypso Snapper and the Shrimp Rice. It was exactly what we were craving. Authentic Costa Rican food in a great atmosphere. We will definitely be returning next time we’re in Costa Rica. Thanks for the birthday love Emmanuel, whoever owns this restaurant needs to give that man a raise!

We had 3 appetizers as we weren't particularly hungry - tuna ceviche had an Asian flair that we couldn't quite place; fish tacos were simple and good (but not exceptional); and the garlic mussels left something to be desired - I was looking for more of a garlic / lemony freshness but they were more of a pizza / garlic bread bakedness. There was free parking available on the side.

Incredible meal. Me and my boys came to eat, and they served us well! The boats were extremely affordable, as well as the appetizers; 40 sushi pieces for 30 bucks (USD). Everything tasted so incredibly good as well. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone looking for a good sushi meal.

Authentic sushi and sashimi. The rolls were the best! And all at very fair prices. The staff were excellent, polite, attentive l, and well turned out. Worth a second visit I think.

Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had and so beautifully presented! The sashimi is fresh, delicate and ultra high quality. I also strongly recommend the traditional Costa Rican tomato spirit with a beer to wash it down. The service was fantastic and the whole meal was very good value for money considering the quality of the sushi.

We had tofu soba noodles, ramen soup, vegan bowl and Fuji roll and everything was absolutely delicious! The service was also great and our waiter Andy was very attentive. We can really recommend kappa sushi!

Wow! Go here. Our server was super friendly and helpful. The vegan sushi was so delicious. Definitely some of the best vegan sushi I've had. We were a group of 8 and we got three sushi boats plus a few individual rolls and wine... it was a great dinner.

This place had a fun atmosphere, nice workers and excellent choices. We had a group of 12 and ate at all 4 places. The pizza was fantastic. Definitely go there, but the Sushi lovers said the sushi was also great and people went back for more tacos. The burgers were good size, had some fun options and were loved. Plus the ice cream and churros at the end were great. You can't go wrong.

My friends and I ate here before our Sloth Tour at Bogarín. We had amazing food and cocktails here. We all went to the burger restaurant and I had El Guapo which was like a combination of birria and grilled cheese, I loved it.

Got a few different things… quesadilla, sushi, matcha, and pizza! Everything was delicious!!! Highly recommend stopping by here to grab a bite!

I had a wonderful experience at the food hall. The wide range of options was impressive. We visited the pizza place, enjoyed some cocktails, and savored the burgers. It definitely lived up to our expectations, and I regret not having more time to dine here repeatedly.

Nice concept for multiple options. However, it is expensive. It is on the side of the main road through La Fortuna. It is almost twice as much as some other food locations. We came from Hotel Los Lagos and pizza was half the price that it is here.

This was the perfect stop, while traveling around Arenal. With 10 adults, all with different eating restrictions. Everyone found something they liked. From burgers, tacos, pizza to sushi and more, the selection and prices vary and there are even daily specials.

Really enjoyed this experience! It's just as it says, a marketplace where you can go up to he different stands and order whatever you want. It's very casual and it has free wifi. All of the food options looked great so it was hard to decide what to order. The taco truck was definitely worth it. I got the mixed tacos. The carne asada tacos and birria tacos were amazing. My friend got the burrito and it good and filling. From the burger/sandwich station, my other friends got the paninis that came with potato wedges which were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We ordered drinks as well. While they weren't as fancy as pictured, they tasted good. There's also free wifi which is w nice bonus. A staff member comes around to share the info. Would definitely recommend for a large group who has different preferences and has trouble deciding what to order but also the food here is great!

Absolutely beautiful restaurant. The vibe and the ambience is very nice. The service was excellent. The food was pretty good. I got the caprese sandwich, which was one of the best caprese sandwiches I have ever had (the pesto was exquisite). My friend got the enchiladas which he liked. Both of us got the nachos which were ok but still alright.

I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. The service was incredible. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is amazing. It was so good that we went back two nights in a row. Our server was called Jimmy and he was phenomenal. Very attentive to our needs and delivered exceptional service. Really good prices made the whole experience even better. Amazing experience at El Fortuneño – La Fortuna! The food was delicious, fresh, and full of authentic Costa Rican flavor. But what really made the visit special was the outstanding service — Jimmy and Carlos were amazing! They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome from start to finish. Great spot in a very central location! The place is nicely set up with a welcoming atmosphere. The food was good, fresh, and well-prepared. Perfect place to stop for a nice meal while exploring the area.

The restaurant was incredibly busy and although was decorative - it was a bit touristy. That said, it was well worth it. The staff were working nonstop and they were phenomenal but the food was better.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Dont get me wrong, the ceviche of mixed fish and shrimp was delicious and the passion fruit cheesecake too. But, the service was horrible. Im usually patient when it comes to waiting for my food and service but i needed to ask the server to come see me, multiples times, even if i was looking at them. The first server told me there was a special drink on the menu, so i took it, to later know that is what NOT on special but it was a homemade drink invented by the house 🙄 it was the most expensive drink on the menu. 7000 colonnes When i ask the server to recommend me a ceviche, she listed the 5 ceviches on the menu! After, i ask another server for recommandation, Gérard was really polite and listened to me. He recommended a ceviche based on what i like. Then, i think i got two other servers because since i was eating alone, they keep forgetting me. Then when i ordered a passion fruit cheesecake, they brought me a strawberry cheesecake. At the end, i ask for the check, i had to wait 30 minutes so that the server can answer my question about my bill. I understand they were busy with services at other table but since i had 4 servers, there is none that came to check up on me. The server took my money and he never came with my change. I paid 20 000 colonnes, and it was 19 495 colonnes. Since i loved the food but i got angry because of the bad service, i would not recommend this restaurant.

What a vibe. The people are so lovely, the decor feels fun and there is also a local kitty. There are a couple craft beers from a microbrewery to try. And you should! They are excellent . I enjoyed the wild cat ipa. The caprese chicken sandwich was great and came with some delicious fresh cut fries. Diego is a fantastic host the other servers were good too

We were staying across the street at the Paradise Hotel Springs and Lava came up as a dinner option. Why there aren’t more reviews on this place is a mystery to me. The atmosphere at night is amazing. The views of the Volcano during the day spectacular. The food and service was excellent. We all had the filet with portobello mushrooms and potatoes. The presentation was very nice and the taste of the steak was excellent. While the cut was a filet it was not a filet mignon as I had anticipated the steak was by no means tough. I would go back in a heartbeat. There were several other menu items that I would like to try.

Heard lots about lava lounge never been, was a but disappointed in visit. There was a group of 4 we stayed there was 2 on staff only 1 other table . It was about 15 min I finally went to bar to get our drinks.. no one came after to ask us if we wanted more drinks we sat for about 30 minutes ..

This place is yummy, fun, and in the heart of the city. Food is packed with flavor. I ordered wings. They were huge. We don’t get wings of that size back home. The wings had great flavor and a nice kick but not powering spice. We also got the nachos. Super good and super in size. For drinks I had a pina colada and pineapple smoothie. They did not disappoint. Atmosphere was cool and hip. Great spot in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Lastly I love that there was this cute little cat roaming around

Located on high streets of La Fortuna. Great atmosphere with live music. Plenty of options of drinks and cocktails, however the food was disappointing. Pet friendly place and also stray cats and dogs were around. However disappointing was that while paying the bill there was too many surcharges and then they said their card machine isn’t working and to pay cash. We didn’t have that much cash, so they accepted whatever cash we had (100$) and remaining on card, as suddenly their machine started working. Artists are average but the whole ambience is nice. I would just go for drinks and avoid food!

Come for the food, stay for the dog! Great vibe and a little visitor if you need help finishing your plate.

I would like to start with a positive review : The restaurant is located in the center of the town. One thing I would like to mention that the manager of the cafe told us that service fee is not considered tips. However based on our research and when we asked other places service fee is considered tips. Plus taxes . So don’t be fooled ! The place is not designed to have guest during the rainy season. It was pouring and we had to move the table several times. Eventually we moved to another table( still had few drops here and there). We were excited about the food but that disappointed us as well. There were limited choices of dishes. one dish carpaccio that was good the rest of the food was very dry( meat), ceviche ( watery), drinks were very expensive( the quality and service doesn’t align). And we paid around $150 for the table of 4 with only 1 main dish and 3 appetizers. I don’t recommend to go there unless you don’t have any other choices. But there are multiple choices. We went to another place and were much surprised by the quality, prices, attitude: I would highly recommend to visit Cafe Rest Raul Costano Fortuna. There is a nice view, wonderful food, and police staff.

Food was good, but not great. When you think about grilling you think about the kiss of fire that the grill gives to the meat, and here that was missing. Felt like they punched the meat and then served it. Service was good!! The cocktails were a little toned down. Whenever you see certain ingredients in the cocktail description you expect that flavour to be very present. It was not the case. The price point for the items here was not low, so it just feels like the food was not matching that point.

Maria Bonita has amazing food, fantastic drinks and great service! Daniel was our server, and he had great recommendations. If you come from US and want steak, you will be disappointed. I had the Buffalo Tenderloin, and it was cooked to perfection.

Super delicious and authentic taste, feels ans vibes. Really enjoyed their beef soup. One of my favourite restaurant that we ate in town on this trip. Great stuff.

This was our first stop after arriving to Costa Rica; recommended by some locals. The atmosphere was pleasant. The food was amazing. They brought us a small bowl to taste their Asparagus Soup which was really good. We ordered their Yuca Frita which were good, Gallo Pinto which was delicious (forgot to take a photo of this), fresh Green Salad, and some cocktails. Loved their “picante”. I would eat here again and would recommend to others. Only thing to note is to ask exactly what your plate includes. We had ordered extra things on the side not knowing that it already was included in the plates and we were never informed by the Waiter nor written in the menu description.

Excellent experience visiting La Choza, it service some of typical Costa Rican cuisine plus plenty of variety options, so most likely you will find something you like.. second. Ordering a coffee here is an experience, the coffee will be prepared from the beans state until you the coffee cup in front of you. This is one of must visit in La fortune. Price are good, service is excellent and atmosphere is great.

This is an open air restaurant with traditional Costa Rican food offerings. The service was very good. I especially liked that they grind and pour your coffee at your table and it is soooo very delicious. They have bathrooms and some limited parking. One star off of atmosphere bc on a busy road with lots of cars and motorcycles, so can get noisy.

Five-star everything for this great pit stop on the way from or to the airport... the quality of the food is terrific, the prices are reasonable, and the ambience and service is so awesome. We ordered coffee at the end of our meal and they wheeled up a coffee service, ground the beans in an old school mill, and told us later that the coffee was on the house!

Just okay. My husband and I both got churrasco. Originally I wanted chicken and they didn’t have any. We had much better churrasco when we went to the Garra Pata. I honestly do not recommend the food here, at least not the dish I had. The best part of the meal was the small dish of sopa de cerdo (pork soup) that they give before the meal. However, the soup tasted like a seafood soup instead of a pork soup. Staff of very nice

Food was absolutely delicious. A little hard to communicate without knowing Spanish. We had a really good guide on a private tour so he was able to help us. I had the traditional Costa Rica meal of grilled chicken with rice, plantain and vegetables.

We had a pepperoni pizza around 3:00 P.M. as a late lunch and it tasted fantastic. The pizza was perfectly cooked and especially the tomato sauce had a great and rich flavour. The decorations were really good as well. The flowers and paintings created a cozy and warm atmosphere. Would recommend!

We ordered the spaghetti bolognese and the Verona (prosciutto and arugula) pizza. Loved their pizza! It was a thinner style but very flavorful and the crust was nice! It was a nice open air restaurant with a great ambiance and the food was super fast!

A beautiful Italian restaurant and setting in the heart of La Fortuna. Wonderful staff and the food was just like being in Italy. We were even given a complimentary glass of wine at the end of our meal. A very nice touch. We went during low season so it was not that busy but the atmosphere was still lovely and they also had some live music later in the evening.

Came here for dinner after a long day of hiking. Great atmosphere and vibes. Gives a bit of a more upscale feel comparative to other restaurants in the area. Parking is easy - just off the side of the road or one of three of their parking spots. Food wise, it was on par with others in the area. Nothing mind blowing but was decent. For starters, we ordered the bruschetta and also got complimentary garlic bread (I think). It was alright nothing to write home about but not bad either. For the mains, we ordered the fettuccini alfredo with chicken and the pesto pasta - which was excellent. Overall nice place and would come again. Giving a four star and not five due to the price. It's obvious that this strip in La Fortuna is the tourist area and prices are jacked up. Otherwise nice restaurant.

Anch'io is the best pizzeria in La Fortuna. The pizzas are prepared in a wood-fired oven and taste fantastic. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the prices are good. I highly recommend this restaurant to pizza lovers.

Love this place..visited first time.in 2014 and now again in 2025 after 11 years.. same ambience same gr8 pizzas (food in general). and gr8 hospitality.. highly recommend...

The pizzas we ordered were delicious. The waitress was very nice and the manager was amazing. We had the brownie dessert and it was delicious as well. The staff and manager went out of their way to help us when our car battery died and the car did not start. They were so nice and helpful. We will definitely be back because not only was the food great; everyone at Anch’io went above and beyond to help us.

The restaurant is outdoors with covered shading. We came here for lunch and there were only a few tables available since it was the designated lunch spot for a tour company. Service was slow since the food was being pre-prepared for the tour groups. The server did not speak much English but we managed using the English translated menu. The cocktail drinks were very meh and they did not have chili guaro shots available. They were out of the burger that I wanted and only had enough pineapple for 1 cocktail that had it as the main ingredient. The chicken mango was dry but at least the sauce was good. The side of salad was just romaine lettuce and a tomato slice. Their house hot sauce was pretty good. The steak was incredibly tough to eat that it was almost inedible. The veggie burger was virtually tasteless. The food was one of the worst we had in La Fortuna. There were games to play like uno and cards.

We had the veggie burger and it was a good portion for us. The ingredients were tasty but the patty was more like a soft potato cake, so it was a little difficult to eat: the patty would squeeze out the other way when pressing on the bread. It was still delicious and the staff was energetic and helpful!

Fantastic local fare served with a smile. Table games, free wifi, a fun chalkboard to leave your name. Great coffee, fabulous frozen juices (included with the daily meal when we went) and the arroz con pollo was better than my grandma's.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT !!! Started with the jugo naturel de Piña and Passion Fruit, more like a blended colado. Great taste and large. Then everyone had something different from the Yellow Burger to Volcano Taco to Casado. It all came out very fast, too. We all enjoyed every last drink and bite. The french fries were even fabulous. I can't recommend it enough.

Visited Yellow Bark for dinner and met the lovely owner, Sandra! She made sure to tell me my dinner choice might be a little spicy and asked if that was ok. I ordered the Chilimango chicken which came with rice and vegetables. It was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Yellow Bark is a family run business with a great atmosphere and good food. You won’t be disappointed!

Great vegetarian options! The food was pretty good. We came here due to the high ratings and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a quaint place, but quite a lot of seating inside. The beverages list was quite vast. We ordered the mango milkshake and a whiskey cocktail - both were really good! The vegetarian quesadilla was flavorful 😀

Cute area. A bunch of different resturants in a little outdoor area. The food was not too bad, meat was a bit tough but otherwise everything was great.

Came here with the family to watch a UFC pay-per-view fight and we’re so glad we did! We’ve tried a few other spots along this strip, but nothing compares to the vibe and atmosphere here. The seafood soup is a must-try, and their margaritas hit the spot. Super clean, family-friendly, live music, and best of all—plenty of TVs downstairs so you won’t miss a moment of the action!

Best pulled pork taco I have ever had! We stopped in for dinner our first night there because they were the busiest place we saw and we ended up eating there again the next day because the food was so good. Staff was super friendly and spoke good English. Taco Tuesday is $2.00 mix and match tacos so you can try all the tacos!

If you're looking to get banged up on booze, this is the perfect place for you. If you're looking for a quality meal, go elsewhere. For starters, we got the guacamole (really just smashed avocado), elote, chicken tacos, and a tamarindo margarita. The best thing here was the tacos which were average. The elote was pretty bad, the corn was really hard and felt like it wasn't even cooked. Overall, it just felt like a bar to attract tourist, and nothing more.

Sometimes a burritos is all you need after a good hike, and an ice cold beer. Small joint, friendly, priced like all the others… but good $$

This is an absolutely fantastic restaurant! The staff is professional, friendly, very attentive, and thorough. True professionals. I've eaten dinner here twice. The kitchen works exceptionally fast, and the dishes are fresh and delicious. There's a relatively large selection of vegetarian and vegan options. In general, the menu is quite diverse. The drinks menu leaves nothing to be desired, and the freshly squeezed fruit juices are delicious. Wine lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. Plus, they serve complimentary bottled water. I was very pleased that they offer such excellent quality at moderate prices. I also really liked the atmosphere and felt completely at ease. It's clean, modern, and cozy. Wi-Fi is also available. I'll definitely be back!

Hands down the absolute best meal I’ve had so far in Costa Rica. The vibes and service were great! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. We got the guacamole, ceviche, salmon and lomo saltado. All were delicious.

We were pretty excited to try this restaurant after reading the reviews, but it was our least favorite place we ate on our whole vacation. The atmosphere is amazing and the service was really good, but the food was just alright. The passion fruit daiquiri was good. The spring rolls were not your usual spring roll and not the most flavorful. My husband got the fettuccine with salted loin and liked it, but I got the pad thai and was very disappointed. It was not very flavorful, didn't really have enough noodles for it being a noodle dish, and half of it seemed to be under cooked vegetables (mostly cauliflower which doesn't belong in pad Thai in my opinion, but some carrots, too.) I think with more staining and flavor, this place would be the perfect spot for dinner

The food was amazing. Lots of vegan options. We had a great server. It's a little off the La Fortuna city limits, Iike 4 miles, but we'll worth it. Super friendly, covered outdoor seating, cool decor.

Highly recommend! We were served by Juan Carlos who was great and very welcoming. The guacamole was made at our table and delicious, the multiprotein burger was filling and tasty, and the vegan chaufa was also really good. We really liked the ambiance as well :)

We’ve had some duds foodwise on our vacation but this place is awesome. Top three meals of our trip. Burgers are awesome as are the chicharrones. Atmosphere is fantastic and you can’t beat the drinks. Would highly recommend!!!

Went here twice. Got Patacones and Tamarind margaritas and Maracuya craft beer (bottle poured in frosted mug). Beautiful singer with live music. stars. Second time... watery margarita and super salty sliders- could not eat. Fun and terrible karaoke 2nd night lol; also but part of the scene. 3 stars overall. Fun place but inconsistent. Has solid potential but needs some quality control. Some decent draft beers on tap.

We stopped here every night of our stay and loved it! Whether a quick cocktail, or a late night snack, the service was amazing, drinks delish and vibe was perfect!

My girlfriend and I ate at D’ mi Tierra twice during our stay in La Fortuna and we actually ordered the same meal TWICE because it was just that good. I ordered the churrasco (chicken plate) and my girlfriend ordered a bowl with rice, pico, beans, avocado and fried pork on top. Everything was 10/10. So tasty and so many different flavors on one dish. On top of that, the owner sat down with us after our meal to tell her story of how she started the restaurant and even introduced us to the animals that she’s rescued over the years. Really fantastic restaurant away from the main drag. The food was fantastic. Had the chifrijo tico and the pork was fried perfectly. Also got the vegetarian rice and beans and the coconut cream curry was amazing. They also make a mango and jalepeño salsa which was fresh with a light spice. Came back a second night and had the shrimp with rice with was also delicious. Very happy with this restaurant. Good place to check out!

This is such a great restaurant for authentic, fresh food and the woman running the place was really sweet, explaining all the meatless options available! We visited this place twice for dinner and both times the food was delicious - both the meat and meatless options. Missed trying the churros!

Had a gorgeous meal here - ordered two casados which were super fresh and tasty. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very chill and familial. Much much better than any of the touristy places in town and so much better value. Highly recommend!

One of the biggest surprises to me when getting to Costa Rica, especially coming from NY, is quite how much they seem to love pizza here! I'd argue almost more places advertise their Italian cuisine here than they do on Mulberry Street in NYC. But I digress. We came here for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of toppings and pies. We got the tomato, mozzarella, and basil pie, which was a nice light choice given how hot it was outside. Call me a pizza snob, but it definitely was missing the flavor of some of my favorite places back home, but all things considered these guys do make a good pie. The ambiance fits in with just about any other Italian restaurant I've ever been in, so in an odd way it felt like a home away from home.

We got the Parma pizza and the spaghetti allá cecca, which were both really good! The food tasted really authentic, and everything on the menu looked great! Service was very quick and friendly. I would definitely come here again!

Hidden gem in La Fortuna - best focaccia I’ve had in my life! Pasta was delicious and perfect portion sizes. Waitress was friendly and attentive! If you are reading reviews to see if this place is worth going, stop what you’re doing and come here immediately- you will not regret it!

First off I am a snob when it comes to gnocchi and vodka sauce. This was hands down some of the best I've ever had. The service was phenomenal and the food....I almost want to drive back from Limon to have it again. There was a nice little kick to the sauce that just made it oh so good. My boys loved the pizza and the salad was also delicious. Do yourself a favor and don't skip this place!

This place is the best restaurant in La Fortuna. Really good pasta, pizza and focaccia bread. The owner is Italian as well. 10/10 for sure! We got the gnocchi and added chicken, amore pizza and really good red wine and mojito. Will be my regular place when I come back here in CR! Must visit here to eat!

So great, we went back twice in our short stay in La Fortuna. The food is GREAT, their pastas are next level. Mint lemonade is out of this world. And the best thing is the outstanding staff, they’re kind and genuine. 12/10 recommend!

The pizza here is pretty tasty. This place has good food for Costa Rican standards at least. In other countries, this wouldn’t be the best pizza in the town, but in La Fortuna it probably is the best pizza in the town. Pizza was fresh and used real Parma ham

Okay where to begin. The food was very good. All of it. Steak perfect. Shrimp tasty. Chicken juicy. Sausages great. Veggies just right. The presentation with the grill on our table... A must. It said for two people but we had a lot of leftovers and we ate a lot. Here's one thing I don't recommend... Don't get a coffee there. They use a machine making instant coffee and c'mon people we all know that's such low quality like the instant coffee you find in your workplace and they were charging way too much. I saw waiters over at that machine all night swiping and pushing buttons then patrons so happy to get their coffee not knowing its source. This place prides itself as a high quality steakhouse. Please get rid of that machine or hide it from our view. Beyond that - all prices very reasonable and food quality high. The best dinner we had during our trip. And like others mentioned, get there before 6pm for a table otherwise reservations required. We watched people getting turned away all night. The dining room is small. They take credit card and apple pay.

This place absolutely deserves a 5 star!! We visited first time, ordered a tuna ceviche/tartare and shared a 400g ribeye steak (cost ~17,300 colones) It comes with 3 complimentary sides and 1 sauce, lots to choose from. Had our steak medium rare like how we always do, and it was the best darn steak we had. It was soft, not chewy, and it just melts. Sooooo good. We had mushroom sauce and got an extra capers sauce, both were excellent! Mash potatoes were good too! The meal was so good that we went back again for dinner the next night and it did not fail us. 😋😋 now we're thinking if we should return for thr 3rd night in a row. Haha, but anyway, if anyone is visiting la fortuna and wants a good steak, this is your go to place 👍👍👍

What a great experience! We walked in around 5pm without a reservation, but we were quickly accommodated. The servers were really patient and let us practice our Spanish, even though they all speak English. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for a very touristy town. I’m so glad we found it and wish them continued success!

YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE. We got the seafood grill and the mixed grill (enough food for 4-5ish people). The meat was cooked to perfection. The melted butter was divine. The shrimp was excellent, and of course you have to get the plantain chips. We recommend the “dirty monkey” for a drink option. Servers were super attentive too.

We got a Mixed Grill platter. The food was delicious, perhaps a bit too much for 2 people (we weren't able to finish all the potatoes...) The variety on the mixed grill platter was very pleasant but a part of the steak had just a bit too much fat cap. Chimichurri was absolutely delicious and totally made up for any fatty steak. Despite not speaking perfect English, the team made us feel incredibly welcome.

This is hands down the beat meal we have had in Costa Rica! The fish and steak were some of the best food I have ever eaten! It was recommended by a local and I am so happy we took her recommendation. Go!!!

If you are looking for authentic Costa Rican food, Soda Sabores Lulu is the place. Everything was so delicious and felt truly homemade. We had the Arroz con Pollo and the Casado Bistec, and both dishes were packed with flavor. The owners were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The smoothies were out of this world and honestly just as memorable as the meals. You also have to try the homemade spicy sauce, it adds the perfect kick. We highly recommend this spot to anyone wanting a real taste of Costa Rica. Pura vida!

The food was super delicious. Very simple, traditional Costa Rican food. Chicken casado and arroz con pollo were both good value for money and super comforting. The Soda is cute big but there weren't too many people when we stopped by. Only 3 tables filled up, however we did have to wait quite some time for our food. The wait was well worth it! Free street parking. We saw some chics and roosters by the side of the road.

Amazing Costa Rican breakfast! The food at Soda Sabores Lulu was absolutely delicious. The best gallo pinto I’ve tried so far! Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and the Tamarindo juice was perfectly refreshing. The staff was friendly, and the place has such a cozy local vibe. Fresh food & great service! Would definitely come here again. I loved sitting at their “bar top” outside. This location is two restaurants in one, a soda and Avenida 333, which has burgers and lots of options. I believe they also offer delivery.

Service was really great, we had the costa rican breakfast which was okay. Plantains didn’t seem fresh unfortunately which I was really looking forward to, rice and beans were good, and eggs were perfectly cooked. Ask for the local hot sauce that they make. Super good!

The kind of place that just feels like a hug. It’s literally a home turned into a restaurant, and that cozy, welcoming vibe shines through in every detail. The food? Absolutely delicious!! Like you’re getting a homemade meal from someone’s abuela. One standout moment: my friend doesn’t eat tilapia (which is the fish they serve), so they literally went to the market to buy salmon just for her, made it the next day, and it came out perfect, even though it wasn’t on the menu. That kind of kindness and trust is rare. We said we’d come back and they just believed us. (And we did!) Prices were super reasonable (a nice break from the tourist markups), everything is made fresh in an open kitchen, and it’s very clean. Fresh fruit is served complimentary for breakfast ♥, which was such a sweet touch. If it were up to me, I’d have eaten there every morning. It’s simple, genuine, and honestly just felt like home.

The barman was friendly and professional, and I enjoyed three cocktails, though the Cocojito felt a bit bland and watered down—maybe just a matter of taste. The glassware and presentation were great, but the modern food court setting disrupts the ambiance. The bar needs a more fitting atmosphere to match the quality of the drinks. As it stands, it feels incomplete.

One of worst drinks we have ever had! The drinks don't even look that good for posting them. I would have preferred them just give me water. Even after we told them it was bad and they tried to fix it, somehow they made it even worse. Good price though and an easy to order menu.

Fancy cocktails with a show! The bartenders put on a show for us while crafting some really fun, tasty cocktails. We had a great time watching them work their magic. I love chiliguaro and was delighted to see that they have a deal on it...10 shots for $20, and it comes in a cool little glass skull and shot glasses to share with your friends. I typically go to the Caribbean side where chiliguaro is always $2/shot. For some reason, it is $4-$6/shot in La Fortuna. So, if you love chiliguaro this is a good place to get it at a "discount." It was delicious! I got the Santeria as my drink. It was fantastic! My friend got the Cocolito which was nice and refreshing. I don't remember what the others in our group ordered, but everyone enjoyed their drinks. The bartenders were delightful as well. We will definitely be back in the future.

Felt a bit pricey given the location but worth it after all - service was excellent and our drinks top quality. The server, whose name I didn’t get, was super helpful in guiding us through choosing a drink that would fit our taste. Also, the cocktails they sell are their own recipe, so you wouldn’t get them elsewhere.

My new favorite cocktail place ever!! So delicious and fun! We came back multiple times because we loved it so much. The bartender gave us personalized recommendations based on what we said we like, and they were spot on every time. The bartenders are super knowledgeable and also entertaining while making drinks!! I travel all over the world and really appreciate an amazing cocktail. Amazing ones are rare and really hard to find. This one however is right on a main strip tucked away in a market kind of setting. These bartenders are incredibly skilled and the cocktails not only on the menu are amazing but off menu are also incredible. We went here every night we could while we were in La fortuna. It's an incredible experience, extremely unique cocktail's and bartenders who clearly have a lot of passion for cocktails. I couldn't recommend this place more and if you go here please don't just get a beer. Explore something new, enjoy.

We ate here as we saw the great reviews and were looking for a more peaceful place to dine without having to worry about parking in town. The food, drinks and service were incredible!!!! 10/10 recommend

This is one of the best restaurant we ever ate. The staff is very friendly and food is freshly made, we stayed in this are for 5 days, daily morning breakfast and night dinner had here, one day we went to another restaurant for dinner but in the middle came back to here again to enjoy the food. If you visit La Fortuna don’t miss this place.

A hidden gem! I had a fantastic dinner at Bamboo Gardens. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The server, Luis, truly made the evening special—he was gracious, attentive, and had a great sense of humor that kept me smiling all evening. A wonderful dining experience from start to finish!

This restaurant had a really romantic vibe, perfect for couples! On top of that, the food was amazing! We got the bolognese and tilapia, which were both equally delicious. If I were to go back I would make sure to get the passion fruit mango smoothie again, it was the best I’ve had all vacation.

This restaurant is an absolute must visit in La Fortuna. The food is amazing, I came back 3 nights in a row. The ceviche, fajitas, chicken, and talapia are delicious. It’s located right above a flowing river that you can see from your table and has a beautiful ambiance with outdoor seating and a covered patio. The service is spectacular, big shout out to Luis, he was incredible and super friendly. Would definitely recommend and will return when I am back in La Fortuna. Pura Vida!!

What an absolutely positive surprise! The food is DELICIOUS, creative and very nicely arranged. Super cuisine! Absolutely try the Tilapia Ceviche and the Whole Tilapia, they are so good and the fish is grown in their own backyard! The waitress was very attentive and thoughtful and asked when the kids should get their plate. Could be basic, but nobody seems to think about this.

5 for 5! Chicken cordon bleau, cheese burger, tenderloin, special order meatballs and spaghetti, and blackened sea bass were awesome. Great family joint with a high class chef and at reasonable price! Love music Saturday night too!

Awesome food, service, and the sounds of the jungle make this restaurant a must when visiting La Fortuna in Costa Rica. We had the surf & turf with coffee shrimp, parmesean parsley crusted salmon, tres leches, and volcano cake. Delicious!

Prices have increased a lot.... Like 40% and are now in USD compared to old menu. We got the seafood casserole appetizer - was amazing. I got the sea bass and shrimp curry which was a very good sized portion but the sea bass would have been better braised or steamed rather than pan fried. Overall was still a classy dish, despite tasting a bit fishy. The wife got a shrimp fried rice dish which was OK. We finished with a tasty piece of tres leches cake. Paid $90 for the two of us, only one of us was drinking. Much better prices for the similar quality can be found just down the hill at the chante restaurant (one with all the hanging plants).

Didn't stay here but stopped by for some Chinese food. Our meal was very good. Shrimp chow mein and schezwan vegetable tofu both had lots of vegetables, the shrimps were a good size and cooked perfectly. The sauces were excellent and not too salty. Bathrooms were clean

It may be just the food that we ordered, but it came with way way way too much sauce (which was also extremely salty and definitely contained glutamate). Possibly the worst chinese restaurant that i have been to in my life. Food at other tables looked slighty better. Just make sure to avoid the sauce. Waiter was nice and food and drinks were brought to the table quickly.

Horrible experience. Girlfriend is Chinese and hated their Chinese food. We had agreed on a price for the room and they refused to honnor our deal. Ran out of hot water after two minutes. All we got was a free cockroach in the room. Stay away from this place.

looks good. Taste not so great. Be careful that some items are deep fried and served with coleslaw and fries. Very greasy. Spring rolls huge deep fried with cabbage and h am inside. Not so great and greasy. Veg dish not horrible, lots of veggies good but bland taste. Was clean. Staff nice. Nice location close to volcano but wouldn't do it again.

Customer service was terrible, we had to wait 10 minutes before someone took our order. We ordered chicken Chow Mein and chicken in spicy schezwan sauce. The chow mein was okay, however the spice chicken schezwan was not spicy at all although we asked for extra spicy, it was made in just soya sauce-extremely salty and they added cucumber, celery and cauliflower to it. Portion size was okay, the serving plates were all chipped. Also, there is no AC or fans.

The Chinese food at this place was not good at all. I ordered chicken sceshuan and could not find the chicken. I have no opinion about the hotel because we did not stay there.

We stayed at the rooms they have. Two full size beds, TV and A/C. The rooms are comfortable and the bathroom is really big. Just bad odor coming from the water pipes. The price was really good

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel in La Fortuna! Nestled in the jungle, it’s the perfect spot for birdwatching right from the property. The staff (Jose and Luis) were all incredibly kind and welcoming. They gave me a brief tour before check-in, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious, and enjoying it with a view of the volcano made it even more special. I also want to give a special shoutout to Armando, my guide for the sloth tour. He helped me spot 11 sloths along with many beautiful birds. His passion and enthusiasm were truly impressive. He even offered me a night tour around the hotel grounds, where we found various tree frogs, absolutely magical! The next evening , he spotted more frogs and lizards and kindly showed them to me again. Armando is an incredible guide with sharp eyes and a deep love for nature. Thanks to him and the wonderful hotel team, my stay was unforgettable. Highly recommend!

It may not be the perfect place for everyone, but for me it was. Very comfortable rooms without unnecessary luxury, cozy common area with swimming pool and hammocks, lush jungle garden with a huge variety of plants and interesting animals, all kinds of fascinating stuff to discover & admire on the hotel grounds: tons of petrified wood "xilopalo" from nearby & art made from it, wooden logs containing stingless bee colonies - a true gem for nature lovers. And great views of Volcan Arenal from the breakfast area, truly friendly and helpful staff, great selection of tours one can book (the Rio Celeste tour was excellent!). Hotel is located a short walk from downtown La Fortuna. As a solo female traveler in my 60s, I felt safe & welcome at the hotel and in the town of La Fortuna. Hope iI will get a chance to stay there again sometime.

What a great hotel... everything close to what you need and fantastic views of the volcano at breakfast. The tour with Armando is a must. The guy sees everything and it's worth 1000%. Also thank you to the gentleman of the reception., he also does a great job. PURA VIDA ❤️

This was the perfect hotel for our stay in La Fortuna. It's wood construction and unique design, with an amazing view of Arenal volcano is ideal. It's perfect if you want want to stay in a hotel that reflects what this area is all about - nature. It fits in with its surroundings perfectly, and it's tucked away at the end of the road so it's very quiet - save for the frogs and birds serenading! Also, it's good value and has everything you need to wait out the rain, or enjoy breakfast and dinner.

Xilopalo is an absolute gem among the numerous other options for staying overnight in La Fortuna. The location is of course unbeatable: you can be in the middle of the lively city in a few minutes on foot, but at the end of the street you are blessed with an unobstructed view of the Arenal and a wonderful atmosphere. The rooms are cleaned daily and are very spacious. The beds are super comfortable. The air conditioning works perfectly. The pool area is very relaxing, in the evening you can swim in great lighting. Breakfast is à la carte, they also have a restaurant that prepares excellent dinners. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the prices are perfectly okay. We cannot understand the bad reviews regarding odor and hygiene. We had a room on the top floor of the building next door. It certainly seems to be very ok. The only thing we didn't like was that the rooms didn't have a safe.

It was a great stay ! The hotel is surrounded by nature so you will see a lot of animals in the garden, I saw birds, lizards, frogs and a sloth ! There is several places to sit and observe the nature around, hammocks and a pool. The pool is very cold. There is a restaurant in the hotel where they also serve the breakfast (9$). At this place you will have a view of the garden, with many birds and if you're lucky, you can see the Volcano. The staff is super nice, and I even got a little night tour of the garden to spot some animals ! The rooms are really basic, don't expect anything fancy, but clean. It's a 5min walk to go to the city center.

Good food, but you can find cheaper places if you just take a little walk. The bean sauce that comes with burritos was great in texture, however the little tomato bowl was too spicy for my taste. The service is attentive, but the kitchen could be a bit quicker.

Great service. The most delicious food we have tried in many months. My wife had the fish that comes in an hot iron dish and I had the same, but with chicken and they were both delicious.

Decent local food. My son had the "Hamburguesa Tex-Mex" which he has been raving about ever since! Has to be one of the tastiest burgers I have ever tasted!

Original waiter was extremely rude after taking over 5 minutes to acknowledge that we were there. New waiter was friendly and much better. The food was okay, but the patacones appetizer was good. As tourist we needed to call a taxi to take us back to our hotel so we asked them to use their phone to call one and they told us they couldn't make calls to cell phones and didn't help us in any way so we walked to another location where they were able to help us. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone!

Upon a high recommendation from our tour guide/driver Leo Rodriguez, we ate lunch at Las Brasitas during our first day in La Fortuna and absolutely enjoyed it! We both had the slow-roasted rotisserie chicken and it was one of the best I have ever eaten. It was so tender, juicy, and flavorful we almost went back a second time during our visit so I can eat it again. The black beans that came with the meal were also the best tasting I had during our entire trip to Costa Rica and it became an ongoing laugh to see if any other restaurant could top them. An open-air restaurant, good food, cold beer, watching the town go by, what a nice afternoon lunch that was.

Pretty solid meal here. Nothing compared to some other locations in the area, and a bit overpriced for tourism, but good Mexican and Costa Rican staples. Service was incredibly slow, bordering on the side of non-existent, despite being one of only three tables in the restaurant. I would probably not visit again, but the menu is good and familiar to many people seeking staples like quesadillas and fajitas. Great location off of the main road in La Fortuna! We visited on our way out of town from zip lining!

Unfortunately we had our first dinner here after arriving in Costa Rica and the food here after our trip from Honduras and Nicaragua was the worst, one chicken leg was cold and had a strange taste as if it was old and just heated up we don't get it at all so far we had everywhere only fresh chicken I don't recommand this place.

The best typical casado meal I have had so far in Costa Rica! Great price and value for money - a big plate of food and delicious. Great service too.

The food is actually good. I told the guy that im allergic to shrimp and ordered something without shrimp. (In spanish aswell) Im eating my meal and there is shrimp in there. That is really not okay.

This is a restaurant that is run in the front of a house. We went there for breakfast/lunch and were amused by all the children going about the yard and house. Barry was lovely and made us feel welcome. The menu has lots of options and it is possible to customize as you please. Mind you, this is NOT a very big place, only two tables but the food was excellent! They whipped up some scrambled tofu with tomatoes and peppers with some gallo pinto (which was not on the menu but was offered when asked). The scramble blew my mind away! It was just so good. My partner had a mango, mushroom ceviche and a tofu burger. They were also amazing. The only thing is that the portions were a bit small but we loved eating there! Also most of the protein was soy-based.

We found the restaurant on a tourist Map and by recommendation of our hotel as we were asking for vegetarian restaurants. When we arrived there we didn't recognise it as a restaurant at first as you are basically sitting on the chef's porch. As there was also a small child living there it was naturally not very tidy. The meals were not served as described as on the menu, also they did not taste particularly good. We felt quite uncomfortable.

The people working here were nice and I like the open air atmosphere. The food wasn't really to our taste, but the price was reasonable. We did like the Fresa Naturales. Not exactly fast food so if you need a quick bite make sure to order ahead.

It is ridiculous that I paid almost 9 dollars for this. I ordered a MEDIUM burrito and when I complained about the size they told me it was a regular medium size burrito so I can’t imagine how small is the small burrito 🤦‍♂️that they have on their menu. The taste of this was also under average. The worst food experience in a loooong time.

One of the best deals in town! Got the largest version of the burrito de res, and after eating the fries and 1/2 the burrito, I was full and took the other half home. Granted, I'd eaten some bread before that, but still! I think it was about 4,875 colones, or $9USD; super delicious, filling, and worth it!

It’s a nice spot, with a view down to the street. Staff was polite and friendly. I asked for a recommendation and she recommended the spicy one. It was okay, but not spicy. The taco had a lot of salad in it’s portion. Batidos were good.

The crust tasted like saltine crackers without the salt and the mushrooms are canned. It was not as good as the previous reviews stated. The crust was soggy towards the center. We waited 30 minutes for less than mediocre pizza. I hate to put it this way but I definitely do not suggest that his place.

This pizza place gave me food poisoning. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I ate here twice the first time was okay but the second time two weeks ago my wife and I order pizza to go on Friday. I went in to the hospital on Sunday. This was the only food I I ate. I became constipated, gain a uti and kidney stones. I’ve never experienced nothing like this in my life before. I’ve never had a uti nor kidney stones. I live in Costa Rica and will never eat here again. The food had bacteria in it. Probably they kept something out and still used it. Be careful with this place or do not eat here anymore in the dry season or at all because this has happen to a lot of people because of this place. I also had a veggie pizza. I am so disappointed and disgusted with this place. I am taking legal action as well.

Nice place to stop after being on a tour trail. The service is quick and the people are helpful. The place is clean. We ordered the Mexican Pizza. The ingredients are fresh and tasted good.

I was supposed to go to another pizza place, but since I missed it, I stumbled upon this one. Honestly, I wish I hadn't. The experience was absolutely terrible, and the lady charged me extra to remove a ham topping, which costs more than the jalapeños. The only thing I'm truly disappointed with in Costa Rica is the food.

Great Soda tucked away near La Fortuna Waterfall. Friendly Service along with great food. Free Wifi is a plus. Definitely Stop after the waterfall for s great meal. We came back for dinner and again we were not disappointed. If i child gives it more stars we would.

They have some of them from the main restaurant in town in jugs. But the casados are exactly how you want them. Really nice. Next time I am going to order pinto con Maduro y Salxhicon.

This Soda is about a 3 minute walk from my Air B&B. I got the Arroz con Pollo and a blackberry (Mora) smoothie. Everything was flavorful and delicious! I will be back to try some of their other items. The ladies there were very kind and provided great service!

The best soda we ate at in La Fortuna. If you know about this place you probably saw it on social media because you won’t find it, even if you were lost. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. Family run and amazing staff. I recommend ordering a couple of plates to try some different stuff. You eat outside, under some tarps in plastic chairs at a plastic table. It is literally everything I love about small hole in the wall style places.

I love small hole in the wall eateries that serve delicious local cuisine, fresh and vibrant full of flavor. I love supporting small businesses. The food was good, presentation was beautiful. Atmosphere was laid back and chill, I felt like I was at my Abueilas home for a warm plate of delicious food.

The best food in La Fortuna, hands down. We came here 2 days in a row and wish we had found out about it sooner. The family who runs it is super kind and welcoming and WOW is their food delicious. Huge, tasty, good priced portions. Don’t miss out on the jugos naturales, either! Tried soursop for the first time and it was so so tasty. They also have a little heladeria attached to it (we may have dabbled in a banana split for good measure after dinner). Go here and you will not be disappointed! (Also, tons of birds in the area and we saw 4 yellow-throated toucans as a bonus the first day!)
