Restaurant
Las Colinas is a straightforward accommodation option that offers a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the volcano. The hotel also features a bar and complimentary breakfast for guests. While some visitors found it to be a great place to stay, others particularly enjoyed the recommended restaurant on-site, praising the delicious cuisine and attentive staff. Although some noted noise from nightlife, they still appreciated the friendly atmosphere and central location. The rooms are described as small but clean, with glass walls facing the courtyard rather than scenic views.
Great location and rooms. Located right in the center of town. Can't beat the location for convenience. Great view of the volcano on the second level of the hotel. Nice open air area for relaxing and enjoying the view. Rooms were nice and clean. Obviously, since it is located in the center of town, we heard more noise and the ongoing activities in the street until around 9pm but that wasnt a surprise. Great place, we will be back again.
Patrick L — Google review
We are staying at Las Colinas Hotel, and unfortunately, our experience has been far from pleasant. Upon arrival, we discovered that our room faces a busy street, resulting in constant noise that disturbs us both day and night. The single-pane windows provide no sound insulation, making it possible not only to hear traffic outside but also conversations of passersby, which significantly reduces both our privacy and comfort. Another major issue is the beds— the mattresses are so worn out that you can feel every metal spring, making a restful sleep nearly impossible. As for the bathroom, it does not even meet basic standards, but I’d rather not go into details. When we tried to address these problems and requested a room change, the staff showed no willingness to help, and our request was dismissed with what felt like mockery. Overall, our stay here has been a huge disappointment, and I would not recommend this so-called hotel to anyone. We will definitely never return.
Martin P — Google review
Downstairs room with no window and no ventilation even in bathroom. Bed cover has dirt or something on it and needs washing. It is not a blanket or bed spread. Room and AC smells of mold/mildew. There is water stansing behind the toilet. Had to turn off air after we returned from dinner it smelled that bad. Nothing dries...towels, swim suit..nothing. I already have a sore throat and we have 2 more nights here. :( Staff are really friendly and food in the attached restaurant has been good. I would not stay here ever again. I submitted complaint to G Adventures and to my travel agent.
Michelle S — Google review
The staff are very friendly and helpful, they helped us plan some of the attractions. The location of the hotel is right in the center of town so you are close to everything you need. Overall, great value for money.
Roie L — Google review
We booked as a group. One room they gave us was pathetic with very bad odor only upon strong confrontation they changed our room. All the while saying they sold out.. couple of rooms had water logging issues. Hot water cannot be called hot water. Very thin walls making the rooms on ground floors uncomfortable while at night. Staff are friendly but management needs to understand the needs and should cater towards that.
Ravikiran A — Google review
Great value. Not super fancy but very clean, wonderful location, great breakfast, potable water, and really nice folks at the desk. Really, this hotel provides everything one needs for a great visit to the La Fortuna area. Go for it!
John D — Google review
Superb location, can walk to places in La Fortuna. The roof top dining area was nice. The food we ordered were pretty good. They have a secured parking place which was great but it is about 500 mts away. The room was tiny. Needs major updates and looks like the last update was like 20 years back. The AC even though cooled the room well, made such a loud noise that we were not able sleep peacefully. Since we had to get it as last minute option, we did not have much choice. But the location and the view was the saving grace.
Srikanth R — Google review
Stayed here for 3 nights as part of the G Adventure tour , worst accommodation so far. We have stayed in better campsites. Hot shower on only one day ! Broken air con that leaked down wall leaving a puddle on floor every day. Reception unable to sort it apart from wiping it up ! Some lights not working unsafe electrics in bathroom. No safety deposit box and room door dodgy lock ! Shocked the G Adventures use this accommodation. Last night new group arrived and sat up on terrace smoking weed in a no smoking hotel. If you need fresh towels take your wet ones to reception otherwise they won't be changed. Only positive is the view and the restaurant attached to hotel. Manager came on to our transport on day of departure and apologise to everyone for all the problems and stated they would get sorted.

The lodge's convenient location provides a peaceful atmosphere while still being close to restaurants and supermarkets. The friendly staff go above and beyond to ensure guests have a wonderful experience, offering helpful recommendations for activities in the area and providing excellent service.
Wonderful place to stay. Great location near the town center. Less than 3 minutes walk to downtown and avoids all of the noise. Great view of the volcano from the common area. Very nice staff. Super helpful when planning your itinerary. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. 24 hour security with person at front desk. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Plenty of breakfast options available. Highly recommended place to stay in La Fortuna.

This was a perfect stay. The location, cleanliness, and views were great. The included breakfast was a treat especially since it starts at 645am so you can eat before any early tour. But, the best part, is the staff. Everyone from the front desk to the kitchen and cleaning staff were all super nice and genuinely wanted to make everyone's stay wonderful. Their communication through whatsapp was a great add too.

Great location with Volcano view. Friendly service. The receptionist was super nice. Comfortable and clean room. A/c and hot showers. Nice breakfast. Walking distance to lots of restaurants. 10/10

Gem of a place. Boutique luxury at an affordable price. The bathrooms felt luxurious, modern, and clean. The bed was nice. The A/C was strong. Staff was friendly and spoke English. The breakfast was good. It’s in town and walkable to all of the restaurants and shops. Fast WiFi and free parking.

Although we only spent one night as we were passing through on our way to Tamarindo, but we had a great time. They have all the amenities needed at this small hotel. Checking in was great with Fabricio! Overall, lovely hotel, close to restaurants and shops. Great up close and personal view of the volcano!

Truly wonderful place to stay. Convenient to walk to restaurants in town, but quiet and secluded. Daniel at the front desk is an exceptional host! He has excellent local knowledge and made some great recommendations. All of the staff here made us feel welcome.

Located in a good quiet place near the centroof La Fortuna. The rooms are bug and clean. The thing that was outstanding is the service, especially of the manager Josue - he listened to our traveling plans , added info from his experience and listened to our issues.

Hotel
Casa Luna Hotel & Spa is a charming retreat nestled in La Fortuna De San Carlos, offering comfortable rooms with amenities like air conditioning and refrigerators. The hotel boasts an outdoor pool with a pool bar, a restaurant serving delicious meals, and a bar for unwinding. Guests can also indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments while enjoying picturesque views of the nearby volcano. The attentive staff ensures that every guest has a memorable experience, from prompt laundry service to informative assistance at the front desk.
Our family of 3 enjoyed our 4 night stay at the end of October. We had a standard room which was nice, clean, had a side view of the volcano. The buffet breakfast was delicious, lots of options of fruit, omelets and traditional CR food. The trail at the back of the property was a nice walk by the creek, lots of frogs, birds, lizards and a sloth to see. The spa was very reasonable and a highlight relaxing while listening to the sounds of the forest and creek.
Meg G — Google review
Beautiful room with great view of the Arenal volcano. Buffet Breakfast was great, 5 stars for the omelette chef! Bring your binoculars! We saw lots of birds, toucan! Internet was barely there. Hot tubs just okay. Not very warm. Shower doesn’t get hot, only lukewarm.
Shuyi H — Google review
Spacious, clean and pretty rooms. Very nice swimming pool & spa! The massages are amazing. Casa Luna has a fun trail you can walk which is nice. Points of improvement would be the lighting in the rooms & wifi. The rooms don’t have a night light which seems minor but was something we missed. As for the wifi, there’s only wifi in common areas and not in the rooms.
Jessica J — Google review
We stayed two nights at Casa Luna on June 1st to June 3rd 2025. We really enjoyed this hotel. The room was very clean and quiet. It included air conditioning, and the view of the Arenal volcano from our balcony was absolutely spectacular! They have a nice pool to relax after a day of outdoor activities. They provide a very good breakfast to start your day on a good note. They are located in a quiet area at only a few Kilometers from the city. There are several very good restaurants near the hotel. Already at that point I would have recommended this hotel without any hesitation. In addition, on the morning of our departure we had an issue with the battery of our car. The front desk asked one of their employees to help us. He boosted the battery of our car, found a place to get our battery checked and replaced and came with us to the service station to help us manage the repair. This was exceptional customer service and we would recommend this person to be employee of the month at this hotel. Overall a solid 5 stars rating for customer service! What a lovely room in the middle for the forest . The trail right outside our room. We love sitting outside during the rain it was so relaxing and peaceful. We got a massage during our stay which was just was peaceful, one side of the room opens into the forest/jungle. The sound of nature really created a lovely peaceful massage. Breakfast was included with an egg station which was great. The lunch menu was not impressive the food was just ok. I would skip the meal and just take a uber and eat in town .
Fantine C — Google review
Beautiful hotel! Rooms were clean and nice with a lovely view. Nice pool area. On site restaurant was delicious and the included breakfast was nice. A quick $5 Uber ride away from the LA fortuna waterfall or hot springs. Plenty of restaurants and a tiny bit of shopping within walking distance.
Sarah W — Google review
We stayed at Casa Luna for a few days. Overall super happy with it. A bit from town. Grounds were beautifully kept. Pool area and little hot tubs were nice. Great view of the volcano. Little hiking trail is pretty. Saw toucans from the room. Bed were nice. Wifi was shady at best. Lots of hot water and the little balcony was a good place to relax after a long day. We did want to have a drink by the pool but there was never staff there. Food was really pretty good. Drinks were very good as well. Only time that service was off is when a van full of day trippers came in and then we got ignored. Town is a bit far, but it is easy to get a Uber. About a 10 in drive. All our tours picked us up there. Spa was lovely...but ease up on the oil please.
Cindy S — Google review
Our stay at Casa Luna was overall pretty nice. The staff was welcoming and always very friendly. The rooms are not very modern. They have an A/C though. Our bedroom window didn't close completely so it invited insects in. Had to tape it shut ourselves. The strangest thing was that there wasn't a bedside lamp present in the room, thus if you wanted some light in the evening you had to turn on the main light in the room. The grounds are well-kept, gardeners working every day. There is also a pool, but they don't have enough beds to lay on, so when it's a busy day you're forced to either lay on the ground or return to your room/terrace after swimming. Behind the hotel, there's a nice trail to walk, and if you're lucky, maybe spot some animals. The food at the restaurant is okay, but quite steep in price. Much rather go to Gallos de la Abuelita Luicita down the road, 4 min walk.

4Casona Rústica & Bungalows - Tangara

Hotel
Casona Rústica & Bungalows - Tangara is a charming retreat nestled in a serene garden setting, just a short walk from the town center. The accommodation offers clean and spacious rooms, including beautiful bungalows. Guests rave about the delicious and filling breakfast options, featuring traditional Costa Rican dishes or pancakes with fruits. The attentive staff receive high praise for their friendliness and helpfulness, going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay.
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Tangara Arenal. I booked the bungalow option, and it was a great choice. The bungalow was surrounded by plants and trees, with outdoor seating perfect for relaxing or reading while it rained—and when it rains, it pours! The metal roof made the sound of the rain noticeable, but I found it soothing, like white noise. We visited during the wet season and had the usual afternoon showers, but it never bothered us. The room was spacious, with a smart TV, mini fridge, and work area. Even with another bungalow nearby, we barely saw or heard anyone. The hotel is easy to find on the main road to town. You’ll need a car or taxi to get around, but since we had a car, it was simple. Breakfast was included and served plated at the on-site restaurant—we ate there daily and also enjoyed dinner one evening. The food was tasty. The location felt safe and quiet, with a police station just a short distance away. The only area for improvement is the shower. The handheld showerhead didn’t have a holder, and there wasn’t space to set toiletries. Adding a mount and some shelving would make it more comfortable. Overall, this hotel offers great value, a peaceful atmosphere, and convenient access to activities. I’d definitely recommend it.
Yu C — Google review
Room was clean. Staff was nice. The breakfast was amazing. We had a good time for dinner as well. I book the room mostly for the swimming pool but it need more attention. It was completely dark to hang out at the pool at night. I thought we can view the volcano directly from the swimming pool but it was completely blocked by trees. You can still see the volcano from a different angle. The check-in time was 1 hour late.
Lana D — Google review
We got one of the smallest rooms that needs a bit more care. Very dark and the bathroom had no place for any sort of storage. Nevertheless, very friendly staff, amazing breakfast and cozy facilities. Cleaning was done every day and they always leave very cute animals shaped with the towels. I loved it.
Ana F — Google review
Don’t book the bungalows, the tin roof is way too loud and can hear every rain drop falling on the roof at night. It’s not that close to the city and the rooms rather small. They are cute though. Breakfast was good but definitely not enough for my 16 year old son and my husband. Service was good.
Shey — Google review
Fantastic stay at this hotel. Great value. Great location, easy walk into town. The bungalow was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast included (made to order, many options). Would definitely stay here again.
Delenn S — Google review
We absolutely loved our stay here and didn't want to leave! Eric and all the other staff were so friendly and helpful and were able to quickly sort any issues we had. We had one of the bungalows which was beautiful, so spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and very filling. The hotel itself is about a 15 walk to town, which was very easy with pavements and streetlights the whole way. We would highly recommend staying here and would return in a heartbeat!
Bryony T — Google review
Really lovely and caring staff! Lovely garden with many birds. We even saw a tucan flying over. Small but clean pool and we could lend towels from the reception to use at the pool. Room was clean with a good AC. The shower had good pressure and was warm! Great three breakfast options. Best thing was the helping out when we last minute needed a shuttle and they arranged one for us! Thank you!

Arenal Poshpacker, located just 10 minutes from La Fortuna, Costa Rica, offers a rustic retreat near the stunning Arenal Volcano. The property features an L-shaped courtyard with a pool, bar, and hammocks. While the dorm-style rooms are lively and close to the amenities, the private rooms offer a quieter atmosphere. Guests praise the friendly and helpful staff, particularly Chris who provides valuable insights and assistance in planning activities.
Huge thank you to Jenny, answered all our questions and helped us book a night tour with them. Saw so many things with her, very informative! We were moved here from poshtel Arenal due to construction and were easily accommodated. Also thank you Milton the swim up bartender!
Rosina C — Google review
Overall a four but the staff and service were full marks. Jenny and Luis were fabulous hosts, the other staff were also very friendly. Jenny on the full day tour was very professional and also great at spotting all kinds of wildlife. The hostel itself needs a bit of care. The kitchen is a mess, the fridge freezes your items, and the organisation is non existent. Personally I think they've missed the mark with the music too. It's great that they silence the place at 10pm (lots of early tours!) but the music they play is more suited to a pop style bar or cheesy club. Personally I'd prefer more chilled out hostel vibe music. Overall a great place with incredible staff at a good price too. Just needs a few tweaks to make it overall 5 star.
Ross C — Google review
good and cheap hostel, with all the features you'd expect. I'd recommend turning on the ac to a cold temp for some time during the day, since the air can get quite humid else (true for all hostels in the area..). comfortable and clean :)
Gunter — Google review
Our stay at Poshpackers really exceeded our expectations. Super nice, clean, and spacious room with a fridge and a great view of the Arenal volcano. Nice pools, friendly and helpful staff, secure hostel with a nice vibe.
Caisa L — Google review
Last night, we were strolling around La Fortuna and decided to stop by Poshpacker, a tourist agency. Luis was super helpful in explaining our options, and we picked two awesome activities: a coffee and chocolate tour and a boat safari on the river. I paid Nicole, the cashier, for both activities with colones (the local currency), but since it was new money, it felt kind of sticky, and I didn’t really notice that I paid 20,000 extra colones ( 40$). The next evening, while walking around the neighborhood again, we ran into Luis. He told me he had something for me, it was the extra 20,000 colones( 40$) from the night before! He returned my money that I didn’t even know I paid extra.Such wonderful people! We wholeheartedly recommend this agency! Lumi - customer
Jenny D — Google review
Such friendly people! We had a private double room, very cheap at $35 a night, hot water and aircon. Right in the centre of town, views of the volcano. 🌋 Pool is nice, but small. Their communal kitchen is in desperate need of an upgrade.
V M — Google review
This review is based off of the horseback riding trip that I booked with them. These people should be ashamed of themselves; first they lied about the company they book their horseback riding through, and then they booked us with the worst business that takes the horses through such horrible and rocky terrain. The tour was less than an hour, we had no introduction as to horseback ride, the session was so rushed we didn’t even get to have a picture in the horses! And on top of it, it was supposed to be an Arenal tour, not only did we not see the volcano, but it wasn’t even pretty scenery. The horseback riding itself was also not even fun because the terrain was so rocky and teeter ours that the horses continuously were tripping— we were scared they’d fall! The company wasn’t even courteous enough to respond back to my emails.

My first Hostel experience and enjoyed it! The price was excellent! We didn’t stay much time in the room because there was so much to explore!

Hotel
Hotel Sierra Arenal is a laid-back accommodation option that offers both dorms and private rooms. The hotel provides horseback tours and complimentary parking for guests. Situated in La Fortuna, it boasts charming rooms with breathtaking views and personalized service, all within close proximity to the town's main attractions. The property features a beautiful pool, well-maintained grounds, and picturesque spots for relaxation. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the volcano on clear days.
When the sweat is dripping down your back, the sight of a beautiful pool makes it all worthwhile. Hotel Sierra has been one of the nicer hotels even though it’s quite simple in layout and design. What made it work were four things: * Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. * Grounds well manicured and lovely little pockets to relax - by the pool, on the dining area, at the rear on the grass. * View of the volcano that decided it would be almost clear of cloud every day. * Wifi has been the best for the entire trip. The walk into the main part of La Fortuna is about 6 minutes with an abundance of places to eat. More variety here than anywhere else - seafood, sushi, pasta, pizza, steak houses, chicken houses, local Costa Rica food, bakeries, coffee shops, vegan, vegetarian and more. Only food I couldn’t find was Thai or Chinese. La Fortuna is the launching pad to white water rafting, bike riding, volcano climbing, tubing, kayaking and so on. A lot to see and do. Highly recommend this hotel. Don’t forget to say hello to Bruno, the indignant but very cute dog.
Debi S — Google review
I have to make a complaint about their shuttle service. They didn’t ask me for the destination hotel and so I ended up being dropped off in the center, despite all other passengers were dropped off at their hotel. I kindly asked the driver only to open Google maps so I could know in which street my hotel is, so I could eventually walk. He freaked out, shouted and told me my drop-off is the center. I ended up taking a taxi 200m to the hotel which was just around the corner. There I met two passengers from the shuttle ride just checking in at the same hotel. Absolutely ridiculous behavior by this unpleasant and almost aggressive driver.
Gregor W — Google review
I have never stayed at a hotel before where they try so hard to wake you up before 8 in the morning. We unfortunately stayed 3 nights and every single morning the maid pounded on the door until we got up at 8 in the morning, including on the day we were checking out at 11am! If thats not enough, someone came by with a leaf blower right outside of our room at 7 in the morning on the second day. They were also texting us to move our car after we had parked it where they told us the evening prior. Not to mention the laundry room is behind the guest rooms where you can hear people talking loudly and washing machines running. On another note the hotel is surrounded by construction on both sides. We wished we had stayed at the backpackers hostel instead.
Hallie T — Google review
Nice practical option with balconies and view of the volcano. Mario and J at the front desk are awesome and helped me get all of questions asked when checking in. Plenty of restaurants nearby and a tranquil pool setting.
Casey N — Google review
We came here on the Intrepid tour and we're disappointed with their choice. The room does not have enough place for luggage - no luggage rack, only one small bedside table and a shelf. Just three hangers under the shelf. We asked for more, but they said that they do not have any. There is a noisy backpackers hostel next door. I would have never picked this place if I were booking the hotel myself.
Tatyana F — Google review
This hotel is on the outskirts of the town but is an easy walk into town. It is a basic hotel which must have been nice but is now designed for back packets. Breakfast was good.
Eve F — Google review
Home-like feel with a Costa Rican charm! The service and the people were so so nice and accommodating I really appreciated their kindness every single day of my stay. They had home cooked breakfast included with our stay every single morning that was delicious! They had cats and dogs wandering around that were super friendly. The vibe was so nice and warm, I felt at home. The room was really big and inexpensive. Recommend fully!

Take it or leave it 👍🏿👎🏿! Really just a simple place to stay. The people were very nice and helpful. Rooms are simple and if you get lucky you can have a beautiful volcano view. Can be loud if it's raining as the roof sounds like it's made out of tin. The pool look nice but I didn't see anyone use it. Breakfast was very simple and adequate.

Hotel la Cascada offers an amazing view and a convenient location near major attractions in Monteverde. Guests can enjoy a variety of breakfast options, including pancakes, eggs, or the traditional Costa Rican breakfast. The hotel provides clean rooms with comfortable beds, a nice balcony overlooking the park, and pleasant showers with hot water. Despite being centrally located, it maintains a peaceful atmosphere. With affordable rates and amenities such as air conditioning and cozy beds, this hotel comes highly recommended for travelers passing through the area.
We wanted something central, budget friendly and private. This location is amazing, the owner is a gem, very helpful (Marvin even drove us to the airport so we could enjoy a more leisurely stay). Clean and airy. We stayed at several places during our stay and they all had there ups and downs. Improvements are possible such as hot water in the shower but honestly it wasn’t as cold as I thought after I got in. And there was no breakfast, maybe there used to be. I like at least 2 coffees as soon as I wake up so it would have been great to have that option. Most breakfast places and shops get going after 9am which is later than I’m used to. Budget was a priority and I would definitely stay here again.
Aamina B — Google review
I’ve been coming here for years, but it’s getting louder and louder outside from speeding cars, motocycles and people drinking alcohol and talking loud late at night. In the morning early again loud noise from the produce downstairs opening and closing delivery truck doors. In addition, I asked for a clean towel and the lady with the little kid gave me a smelly soggy towel like it was cool to use.
Douglas A — Google review
Worst bed I have ever slept on. I am not one to complain but the spring in the bed was poking out and I woke up with a sharp pain on both sides of my hips from tossing and turning all night trying to find a comfortable position but to no avail. Don’t stay here unless you want to have the crappiest sleep ever (I am a backpacker and have slept in bad hostels beds but this was just ludicrous) Only thing that saves this place is the location but I would rather walk a mile than to stay here again.
Andres G — Google review
Just adequate. An acceptable place to sleep for a night or two with a convenient location. Not terribly clean, though not necessarily dirty, just somewhere in between. Lots of noise from outside, plenty of pot smoke, but I took that one as a plus. They did have lockers, which is a very good thing, since I'm not sure I'd have felt comfortable leaving anything of the slightest value in my room here while out. I'd stay here again, if it was the only thing open within the price range, but I'd look elsewhere first.
Gary P — Google review
Big rooms with no bunk beds which I liked. Nice view of the volcano from my balcony. There's 24h security and the owners are very kind and keep the place clean. To get better rates you can call them and book directly with them. You can pay with card. I was in a female dorm for the entire stay and felt very safe
I S — Google review
A cockroach in the shower and urine on the side of the toilet that doesn't get cleaned for my whole stay (3 days). The worst thing is the kitchen. It is wet and absolutely disgusting. The dishes are not washed for days, literally nothing is clean. The pots had food in them that moulded. When I wanted to leave to get my bus, I waited and rang the bell multiple times to make my payment and no one was coming. I ran out of time and went to the bus stop. When I stood in the line to enter the bus, the receptionist rushed to me to get the money. Of course this took the possibility of paying with credit card from me which is bad to start with. The fact that the receptionist barely spoke English to understand me and that he did not even have three dollars of change with him was an absolute disgrace. He ran to a store, while I ran out of time because my bus wanted to leave.
Marinos G — Google review
I stayed in a shared dorm room for a few nights. This place was great for the price you pay; very centralized in La Fortuna, and right across from the park which is a great place to relax. Positives: good wifi, comfy beds, towels provided, and I noticed some lockers near reception you can use (but bring a lock?). Downsides: the room I was in had one smaller window that made it hard to get cooler air inside overnight. Overall, I’d stay here again if passing through town.
Rachel F — Google review
Looks like recently renovated, spacious room. I selected room with private bathroom. When I checked in, the front desk wanted to charge me more than the price on Google. I showed him the Google price and he matched it Good location, in the middle of the town, lots is restaurants around, sushi is next door and a vegetable / fruits market Priced reasonably, however there is no fan or air conditioning in the room. Avoid opening the window, it could be noisy in the early morning or early evening, you may also end up with insects in your room

Argdivan Hostel is a perfect choice for travelers looking to experience the authentic charm of the Arenal Volcano. Located just a short walk from the bus station, this hostel offers a welcoming and communal atmosphere that makes guests feel at home. The staff, who are passionate travelers themselves, go above and beyond to ensure that guests have an enjoyable stay.
Great hostel for meeting people and going on tours! I did the hot springs, Arenal volcano, and Rio Celeste all through them. The tours are cheaper than anywhere else you could book and I was surrounded by other travelers. The private room was comfortable and clean, only complaint is that nearly all the rooms are right off the kitchen/common area, but as long as people respect quiet hours it isn’t too big of an issue.

Great Hostel with a really chill atmosphere. I loved the rooftop terrace and it’s central to a lot of things around the area. The hostel was very clean and the staff were extremely friendly. Particularly one of the volunteers, Arjun who figured out a way to squeeze me on to the night hot springs shuttle last minute. Would have loved to stay longer.

Bed was comfortable with privacy curtains. Shower was really nice with hot water. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful. Great locations near a few supermarkets. The hostel had lots of options for activities including the hot springs each evening.

Really enjoyed my stay at Argdivan. This stay was my first time traveling alone and my first exposure to a hostel setting. Now on the other side of it, it's left me eager to continue trying the hostel thing out. Quick overview - Stayed in the four person dorm. The shared facilities are clean and maintained daily. The volunteer staff are warm and incredibly helpful - special shoutout to Donald & Claudia who provided great suggestions on activities in the surrounding area. The people who stayed in the hostel were also very sociable and easy to get along with. All in all, a fantastic stay/experience and recommend the hostel for anyone looking to stay in La Fortuna.

Palacios Arenal is a fantastic place to stay in La Fortuna, offering spacious dorms, a well-equipped kitchen, gym, and coworking space. The owner is friendly and accommodating, often cooking for guests. Conveniently located near the bus station and the town center, it also has a supermarket and organic produce store nearby. Guests appreciate the clean rooms with comfortable beds and open common areas. The owners are welcoming and provide helpful tips for activities in the area.
What a fabulous hostel - great facilities (parking, WiFi, well equipped kitchen, potable tap, water, gym), very aesthetic decor with beautiful wall art throughout, clean and comfortable beds, lovely welcoming staff, perfect location and a fabulous atmosphere! Marlene was particularly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. Many thanks to the whole team!

Amazing hostel. Good location. The owner was genuine and friendly, and attended to all my needs and requests. Private fan and shelf for each bed, coffee all day for free, I used the gym twice, very good common areas: quiet room for working, hammocks, big kitchen, etc. I'm so glad I stayed here. Cheapest and best hostel in Costa Rica.

Hammock always great to have:) well equipment big kitchen. Place to be in La Fortuna!!:):) Grasias for everything! PURA VIDA

I still can't believe the low price for staying at this incredible place!!! The room was clean and I was able to get a bottom bunk. The gym/kitchen/sitting area was wide open and super nice. It was easy to walk all around La Fortuna from here. Checked in quickly and easily. Also, got a sunrise view in the morning. Showers and clean and not cramped at all. I would ABSOLUTELY stay here again!!

Loved this hostel! The owners are super friendly and helpful. They give great tips on what to do and provide fun activities for the hostel. It was really easy to make friends at the hostel and the co-working space was perfect. The Internet is really good so easy to work even if multiple people are on zoom calls
Monica A — Google review
Good for the price, really lovely service from the staff. Just be aware that if you book a room in a dorm, you may not get a bunk with a fan/curtain or even a working power plug. These are pretty basic things that you pay for in a hostel and I managed to get a bunk without any of these. In a particularly warm dorm room this isn't great, nor is it very private, or nice when you're trying to sleep. Kitchen is well equipped but hasn't had a deep clean in a while. Again, good for the price, but you get what you pay for in Costa Rica

This is an amazing hostel! The host family is super nice, kind and willing to help you for anything you might need. The common area is incredible, it's a large open space with kitchen, pool table, gym, sofas.. Very easy to meet people and many nice activities to do with them. If I'll come back to la fortuna I will have 0 doubts on where to stay again!

We didn’t read any reviews before staying here with our two boys aged 10 and 12. We were recommended by Franco a local who lives here. We have only stayed a couple hostels as a family but this one makes us want to try it more often. Adrian and his wife are absolutely amazing. The kids loved this place. Everyone was very respectful and there was hardly any noise in the sleeping area as it is separated from the common area. Christmas dinner was made as we as Christmas breakfast all for free. We were so happy we were lucky enough to stumble upon this place. What a great experience that we will share with anyone that is coming to la fortuna. Will recommend and will return absolutely !!! Thanks Adrian. What a great host !

Hotel Arenal Glamping is a charming and peaceful retreat located in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The hotel offers a convenient location, allowing guests to easily access various activities and explore the town. The staff provides exceptional customer service and can assist in planning activities. With stunning views of Arenal Volcano, well-maintained grounds, and clean rooms equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, the hotel ensures a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy delicious breakfast options while being surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes.
We stayed here for our honeymoon in January, and it did not disappoint. The grounds are beautifully kept and the setting was stunning. Unfortunately it rained for our entire stay so didn't get to see the volcano! The glamping tent was great - spacious, aircon, good sized shower/private bathroom, comfortable bed, and beautiful deck looking into the forest. We used the pool even in the rain! Breakfast was great - food excellent, staff friendly and great setting watching the wildlife in the trees while we ate. Would recommend a car as its a bit out of town. Staff helped with restaurant recommendations too. Highly recommend.

A beautiful place to stay, the site feels secluded and peaceful. The tents were cozy and clean. Offered an excellent breakfast. You can tell that the staff cares about their guests, I felt extremely taken care of.

It’s rare to find a place where everything truly feels perfect, but this is one of those gems. The safari tents are spotless and beautifully designed, the pool and volcano views are stunning, and the breakfast is absolutely delicious. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the outstanding service. The team goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. We couldn’t recommend it more!

Arenal Glamping in La Fortuna is an absolute gem! Nestled in the heart of nature, it offers stunning views of Arenal Volcano and incredible privacy, making it a perfect retreat. The glamping accommodations are beautifully designed, blending luxury with the tranquility of the outdoors. Waking up to the sounds of nature was a dream. What truly stood out was the amazing staff—friendly, helpful, and always going the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect. They provided great local tips and made us feel so welcome. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape surrounded by natural beauty and exceptional service, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!
Tucker E — Google review
The staff here are great. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with our initial room and Dani worked very quickly to get us set up in a different one. The grounds are kept in beautiful shape and the view of the volcano, when it is out, is marvelous. It is great waking up to sounds of the birds, frogs and insects. Unfortunately, there is construction going on close by and apparent they start at 6:00 the morning. Breakfast is very nice. Fruit, gallo pinto, eggs to order ( you may have to ask) cereal, pancakes, etc. The rooms/tents have good potential, nice flooring, comfy beds, private decks and the a/c units work well. But there’s quite a lot of room for improvement. I get that you have to not eat in the room because of potential ants pest, etc. However, it doesn’t make any sense to not have some sort of food locker in your room and allow you to eat on your deck or something so that there’s a way to have snacks or whatever in your room. At this point, for the standard tents, you have to put any food you have in their little communal refrigerator by the breakfast area and walk down there to eat anything. They also want you to wear a wrist band 24 /7 for “breakfast and security”. So you walk around town clearly identifying as a tourist? And we went canyoning. I’m not going to wear a band while we’re rappelling. No one noticed when we removed our bands. The superior tents are a good step up from the standard tents. They have a small personal fridge and are roomier with better showers. But there are still issues that should be addressed: Only two pillows on beds; No shelf in shower for toiletries like conditioner your own shampoo etc.; room safe is in a very inconvenient location. You have to get on hands and knees on wood floor and it is hard to see the panel; no Kleenex; could use hooks near shower to hang towels/robes, and a corner shelf in bathroom as now only a narrow two level shelf right above toilet. Anyone ever knocked something of a shelf into the toilet?; no hot water in the bathroom sink; in the living area they really need a few shelves or drawers.there is almost no place to unpack. So you have to live out of a suitcase and there’s only one suitcase stand; only one bedside lamp for two beds. It feels like whoever designed the space never tried staying in the room for a few nights. Overall we just did not find the rooms comfortable for a multiple night stay.
J. C — Google review
We stayed here for our honeymoon for two nights. It's a beautiful place and very well looked after. We loved watching the birds and squirrels in the trees. The tents are roomy, have Aircon and the beds are comfortable. The shower was massive and even though you're in a tent it is more like a private room. As you are glamping, be prepared for bugs. Unfortunately it was raining whilst we were there so did not see the volcano. However, we still made use of the pool which was also well looked after. There was also a deck for yoga or watching movies. Breakfast was traditional and delicious. The place has parking but I think you could walk into town from it.

I had the pleasure of staying here for just two days, but from the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the breathtaking beauty of this place. The service has been nothing short of fantastic, making every moment feel special (there was also a baby sloth on a tree at the reception). I can hardly wait to wake up and enjoy the wonderful breakfast tomorrow! To top it off, I indulged in both a massage and a facial treatment, and they were absolutely amazing—pure bliss! Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a rejuvenating escape! :)

Can’t recommend this hotel enough. This place had a great influence with us falling in love with Costa Rica. The staff is wonderful, the morning breakfast was really good, fresh fruit everyday and made to order eggs 🫶🏻 The rooms are so well built you can feel cozy while listening to the jungle sounds, we were able to see sloths in the property as well as birds and butterflies. Honestly just thank you for this couple of days in paradise. Special thanks to Javier your resort is out of this world!!

Regina Hotel offers simply furnished rooms, most equipped with kitchenettes, in a relaxed setting with complimentary Wi-Fi and parking. Guests have praised the beautiful location on the main strip and the helpfulness of Mrs. Ricio, making them feel like old friends. The hotel's proximity to the main strip and easy access to tours has been highlighted as a plus point by visitors who also appreciated the clean rooms with amenities such as AC, hot water, and kitchen counters.
The hotel Arenal by Regina was a great surprise👌 for us, a wonderful one. Is located in an strategic place at the town of LA Fortuna, close to the Arenal volcano 🌋 and at the same time close to supermarket, restaurants, bars 🍸 and many other attractions of the small but, beautiful latinoamerican town. Remember to ask for the new rooms!!!! Those are nice 👌 ones. The best part of the hotel is not the affordable price but, the people working in there. I was impressed by the way Rocio, Kevin and Alan manage the place. They help us in every way possible making our stay unforgettable. With them everything was easy and our vacations run smoothly and we were able to enjoy everything. Thanks again!!!

Good value. The staff is friendly and helpful. Be warned, if you are a light sleeper, this is not a good place for you. There is karaoke down the street and a bar across the street. You will hear a lot of noise coming from these venues until around midnight, if not later. I'm a heavy sleeper, so it did not affect me much, but you might want to take that into consideration.

I didn’t stay at this hotel, but I did rent a motorcycle from them because I was in a pinch. It cost $50 for 24 hours and a $100 deposit, and you have to fill the tank on return. They encouraged I put the deposit on a card so I could keep my cash for the days, which made sense. But now it feels like scam. After returning the bike in perfect condition, they fumbled over the credit card machine and kept saying it’s a problem with the bank. Now I’m stuck with a $100 charge on my card and I’m not able to refute the charge until I return to the states. Extremely frustrating since I had the cash and was ready to put a deposit down, but they recommended doing a card and pushed for it.

The location is super-convenient for getting to restaurants, etc., but it is insanely noisy. The mgmt puts ear plugs on the nightstand level of noise. In all other regards a great place to stay. And they will do your laundry for $4 per kilo which is fantastic!
Catherine M — Google review
We really liked the place except for it is right opposite a club which professes to be THE party place in la Fortuna and did it's utmost to live up to that reputation. Not ideal when we were very jetlagged and needed to get up early for the excursions in the morning. If you are a very good sleeper or in la fortuna to party then I wholeheartedly recommend the place. Was clean, comfortable, spacious, staff was lovely. But otherwise I would avoid.

My partner and I stayed here for a few days in Spring 2017. All of Costa Rica was beautiful, but this hotel was one of our best experiences by far. The staff were helpful and accommodating. There was a group of other young people from the States, and they were being very loud in the evenings. The hotel staff took care of the noise immediately and offered their apologies. They also helped us book some ecotours, which were equally as amazing. The rooms were immaculately clean, air conditioned, and very comfortable after a week on the road. I would rate Hotel Regina higher than 5 stars if I could. We are so thankful for their hospitality and we will definitely be coming back to stay here in the future.

This place is absolutely beautiful. We were passing through for one night and ended up staying an additional night. Our room had a balcony and was on the main strip. Mrs. Ricio was so helpful as soon as we walked through the door. After our daily chats, we felt like old friends. Whenever I visit I’ll be sure to return to this cozy, clean hotel. I’m picky and trust me, it earned my approval. Not to mention the price was amazing. Thank you Hotel Regina signed your Forever return customer with a Jamaican dad ;)

It was always very humid in the bathroom after showering because the air couldn't circulate properly through the small window and it took a while. What else needs to be mentioned: it was finally a hotel with decent towels. Nice and thick with which you could dry yourself properly. Check-in was super good and the location was just right for us. A bit remote, but still a quick drive to the center. We would definitely book this accommodation again. Immerse yourself in the world of chocolate with the Rainforest Chocolate Tour, a unique and educational experience set against the backdrop of stunning volcano views. This tour offers an interactive workshop where you can learn about the process of making chocolate, exploring its history, culture, and traditions in Costa Rica. Led by knowledgeable guides like El Chapo and Elio, visitors get to participate in tastings and hands-on activities such as creating their own chocolate concoctions.
When we 1st walked up we could hear the other groups having so much fun and I was only hoping for the same and they didn't disappoint. I love the fact they hit you with alot of history facts and education about what's really happening with fair trade and chocolate companies. Some may find this info hard to take in but it's important and I appreciated that. After the hard trust it was smooth sailing. Are tour guy was sweet, funny and filled with info. We saw frogs and butterflies 🦋 and had alot of chocolate 🍫 it was truly fun and magical. Honestly I've done a handful of chocolate tours and this one was the best! Highly recommended

The chocolate tour with Roberto was such a fun and unforgettable experience for our whole family. Roberto made the entire tour engaging, informative, and full of laughs. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, and that energy made the experience even better. Roberto showed us the process from cacao bean to finished product and let us sample different types of chocolate at each stage. It was hands-on, educational, and honestly, just a lot of fun. We even got to try chocolate with various toppings like salt, coffee, and chili powder. What made this tour stand out was Roberto’s humor and storytelling. He kept the kids entertained and had the adults laughing too. It never felt rushed or scripted..just a genuine, down-to-earth experience with someone who clearly loves sharing Costa Rican culture. If you’re in La Fortuna, this tour is a must. My four kids gave it 5 stars.

We had a wonderful experience. One of the highlights of our trip to Fortuna area. Our guide was Gexel and her trainee who were great! They were incredibly knowledgeable, very fun, and professional. It was a memorable hands on experience that we are so glad we chose to do!

We took this tour because of other reviewers raving about Roberto. He did not disappoint. Very informative. I thought I knew something about cacao, but most of it was wrong! This is a great experience, well worth the money.
Scott L — Google review
The chocolate tour was fun but is really only an hour long. During the first bit our guide brought us over and was doing more of a nature walk than chocolate tour. He kept trying to hype people up about how much chocolate they’d be getting but it got old pretty quick. He pointed out some mold on some of the cacao pods and was commenting on how it needed to be broken off and buried and made a huge deal out of it and then ignored the fact that there were two other pods near him that had the mold on it. Making the chocolate itself was fun and so was mixing things together at the end. Overall was a do it once kind of tour and then not again. I’d probably recommend going on a tour that couples multiple activities together.
Eric O — Google review
Our family of five, with kids aged 7, 5 and 3 had an absolute blast today. Keilor was a very good tour guide and it was fun going through the whole process of harvesting cacao, processing and tasting chocolate. It was very informative and kept the kids engaged the whole time. Highly recommended!
Zachary T — Google review
I really recommend this tour. It's super interesting and informative. Our guide Gexel was so passionate and energetic, clearly she's knowledgeable about the cacao and production process and made sure to include everyone in activities. It's the people who makes places special and everyone who works there is so nice, kind and full of joy. Absolute pleasure even in the rain. You get to try all sort of chocolate. The small gift shop is very well priced for all locally produced chocolate. Definitely worth stocking up here rather than at the airport or other major souvenir shops.

Hotel Arenal Xilopalo is a basic yet comfortable accommodation within walking distance of the town. The hotel offers simple, spacious rooms with amenities such as air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy a small pool, restaurant, and game rooms on the property. The highlight of the hotel is its stunning views of the volcano from the restaurant. Additionally, birdwatchers will appreciate the opportunity to spot toucans and parakeets while enjoying fresh fruit left out for them by the staff.
We loved Hotel Xilopalo! It is set right in the jungle, but within walking distance to the hub of the town. Staff were absolutely fantastic in every way! Jose gave us a warm greeting upon arrival and gave us a personal tour pointing out all of the amenities before bringing us to our room. The rooms are large with a natural wood design and very reasonably priced. In the morning, we had coffee and breakfast surrounded by many types of birds and a beautiful view of the volcano. We did a night walk on the property as well as a sloth tour with Armando. We couldn't have asked for a better tour - we saw lizards, frogs, toucans, and several sloths. We would absolutely visit again!

This hotel and their lovely staff far exceeded our expectations. The location is so beautiful and is still within walking distance of town. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The view from the restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast was spectacular! The staff were so helpful and wonderful. We greatly appreciated all of their help in arranging some tours and providing recommendations. Everyone was so kind, and we loved our stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel in La Fortuna! Nestled in the jungle, it’s the perfect spot for birdwatching right from the property. The staff (Jose and Luis) were all incredibly kind and welcoming. They gave me a brief tour before check-in, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious, and enjoying it with a view of the volcano made it even more special. I also want to give a special shoutout to Armando, my guide for the sloth tour. He helped me spot 11 sloths along with many beautiful birds. His passion and enthusiasm were truly impressive. He even offered me a night tour around the hotel grounds, where we found various tree frogs, absolutely magical! The next evening , he spotted more frogs and lizards and kindly showed them to me again. Armando is an incredible guide with sharp eyes and a deep love for nature. Thanks to him and the wonderful hotel team, my stay was unforgettable. Highly recommend!

It may not be the perfect place for everyone, but for me it was. Very comfortable rooms without unnecessary luxury, cozy common area with swimming pool and hammocks, lush jungle garden with a huge variety of plants and interesting animals, all kinds of fascinating stuff to discover & admire on the hotel grounds: tons of petrified wood "xilopalo" from nearby & art made from it, wooden logs containing stingless bee colonies - a true gem for nature lovers. And great views of Volcan Arenal from the breakfast area, truly friendly and helpful staff, great selection of tours one can book (the Rio Celeste tour was excellent!). Hotel is located a short walk from downtown La Fortuna. As a solo female traveler in my 60s, I felt safe & welcome at the hotel and in the town of La Fortuna. Hope iI will get a chance to stay there again sometime.

What a great hotel... everything close to what you need and fantastic views of the volcano at breakfast. The tour with Armando is a must. The guy sees everything and it's worth 1000%. Also thank you to the gentleman of the reception., he also does a great job. PURA VIDA ❤️

This was the perfect hotel for our stay in La Fortuna. It's wood construction and unique design, with an amazing view of Arenal volcano is ideal. It's perfect if you want want to stay in a hotel that reflects what this area is all about - nature. It fits in with its surroundings perfectly, and it's tucked away at the end of the road so it's very quiet - save for the frogs and birds serenading! Also, it's good value and has everything you need to wait out the rain, or enjoy breakfast and dinner.

Xilopalo is an absolute gem among the numerous other options for staying overnight in La Fortuna. The location is of course unbeatable: you can be in the middle of the lively city in a few minutes on foot, but at the end of the street you are blessed with an unobstructed view of the Arenal and a wonderful atmosphere. The rooms are cleaned daily and are very spacious. The beds are super comfortable. The air conditioning works perfectly. The pool area is very relaxing, in the evening you can swim in great lighting. Breakfast is à la carte, they also have a restaurant that prepares excellent dinners. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the prices are perfectly okay. We cannot understand the bad reviews regarding odor and hygiene. We had a room on the top floor of the building next door. It certainly seems to be very ok. The only thing we didn't like was that the rooms didn't have a safe.
Le C — Google review
It was a great stay ! The hotel is surrounded by nature so you will see a lot of animals in the garden, I saw birds, lizards, frogs and a sloth ! There is several places to sit and observe the nature around, hammocks and a pool. The pool is very cold. There is a restaurant in the hotel where they also serve the breakfast (9$). At this place you will have a view of the garden, with many birds and if you're lucky, you can see the Volcano. The staff is super nice, and I even got a little night tour of the garden to spot some animals ! The rooms are really basic, don't expect anything fancy, but clean. It's a 5min walk to go to the city center.

Youth hostel
Nestled in La Fortuna, Hotel La Choza Inn is conveniently close to Paradise Hot Springs and Baldi Hot Springs. The hostel offers a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, making it an ideal spot for budget-conscious travelers looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, with a charming courtyard adding to the ambiance. While the lack of storage space may be a downside, the daily cleaning service ensures cleanliness.
Stayed at La Choza for 3 nights and it definitely was a great space for what you're looking for within a budget - a bed to lay in, a shower (sometimes hot water) restroom, a delicious traditional breakfast and a very helpful and resourceful staff. This location is a quiet, dead-end area but walking distance from everything. During our visit it wasn't much of a party scene. Shuttle services - they are very strict on timing so you need to plan your day and will only provide roundtrip services to sites offered by La Choza.
Gabriela C — Google review
This hostel was very nice overall. For me the pros were the staff, who was always helpful and kind, and the common areas that were also equipped with all the necessary. The cons would be the rooms that could use some small adjustments that could greatly improve life of travellers. For example there is no lights on the beds nor tents and the light in the room is weak at night. The ratio bathroom to people could be improved and the cleanliness as well. Overall I would still recommend it as it is close by everything and the experience can still be nice just fairly rudimental.
Silvia R — Google review
Do not get the "unlimited" shuttle for 20usd. (I doubt that they'll continue running it for much longer anyway. Hardly anyone uses it.) The shuttle does not run as advertised. You have to pre-arrange with them to take you somewhere in the morning and take you back at a specified time (decided by them not by you). When I pointed out that this is not what the schedule shows or how the shuttle is described when sold, the man at the desk simply gaslighted me. First, he blamed his colleague then he blamed me. He told me on the phone that I would get a refund. And then later he pretended the conversation never happened. Such a shocking and shameless liar. His tone was so aggressive and condescending. Disgusting man. His behavior is not that surprising when you look at comments about the hostels management from other reviewers. There are hostile and aggressive signs everywhere warning people about laws and fines etc. it creates an unpleasant environment. They say that people who are untrustworthy are always suspicious of others. Everything about the way this hostel is run shows that. The hostel administration is completely untrustworthy. And that is why they demand a deposit for everything - even a towel. They threaten you with laws but do not obey the law themselves. They do not provide services as they are described when sold. They still have not provided me with a valid tax receipt. After I asked three times, they gave me some meaningless piece of paper that doesn't even have the name of the hostel on it. The shuttle has many broken seat belts and missing headrests in the back seats. It's not a legally compliant vehicle. Do not book any tours or extra services through them. Everyone I spoke to who had done a tour through the hostel felt ripped off and were dissatisfied with the quality. Book with Viator or just go to a tour operator office in town instead. Normally when you book through a hostel they quality control. These guys just pocket the commission and don't care that they've sold you a dud. I only stayed there because I was booking last minute. It is totally overpriced for what they give. Other hostels provide much better facilities and services (without the lying and threats). Rooms are cramped with few amenities. Always a queue for the toilet. WiFi is sketchy. The only saving grace of the hostel is the nice breakfast and small courtyard. Avoid it if you can. And if you have to stay there book through a third party and don't get any of the extras.

This place has comfy beds, a lot of seating, a great free breakfast, it gets cleaned daily, small lockboxes and lots of backpackers. It also has a free shuttle to the hot springs river that leaves at 1:00pm. You can walk to tons of good restaurants and the local rope swing. We spent a lot of time there. They have a fridge and kitchen area thats clean and free to use. The cons are the AC only comes on at 9PM and turns off in the morning, and a lot of the doorknobs are a little wonky and hard to open. We had a good time here and the breakfast saved us a lot of money.

I loved staying here! The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the rooms are very clean. Great value for money and just minutes away from the main attractions of La Fortuna.

The location is perfect, close to supermarkets, restaurants, and tours. The rooms are very clean, and the hostel has a welcoming vibe. Great place for both solo travelers and families.

We recently stayed at your hostel and were very disappointed by the unprofessional behavior of one of your staff members. While we fully respect the no-smoking policy, we were standing outside discussing our plans when I was rudely told to move from a step. Later, when I asked about the cheapest way to Monteverde, the staff member dismissively told me he was off duty. My friend later exhaled residual smoke inside, and the staff member aggressively shouted at her, even threatening to call the police. He also called the boss, who initially argued with us but later had a calm discussion. However, the staff member kept interrupting and was extremely rude throughout. We understand hostel rules, but guests should be treated with respect. We hope you address this issue.

Our view of the volcano was amazing. Staff were so helpful and kind. Organized our excursions and took great care of us. There is a grocery store and Soda restaurant right next door. Walking distance to many bars and restaurants

Toilet flushes slow. beds, sheets, and furniture are below average or normal compared to a 3 star place like Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. We were pointed by hotel staff at booking policy at bottom of our reservation page obtained from their booking website: "If cancelled or modified less than 5 days before date of arrival, or in case of no-show, the full booking item amount will be charged." You may also find this policy on free cancellation before 5 days check in date when you make a reservation at their website. Why is there a 5 days ahead requirement for free cancellation at this Blue Hotel? I later guessed they figure people would rarely stay at La Fortuna more than 5 days. You would surely be charged and have little or no chance to get any refund, no matter you find out you like the room and hotel condition or not when or very soon after you check in at this place. At Expedia.com, it is 24 hours ahead free cancellation.

Good value for the price. Staff were excellent and very accommodating! Location is good as it’s close to everything but the down side to that was it was very noisy. I’m a light sleeper and the loud vehicles kept me up all night. Keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper. The beds were quite comfy and the view of the volcano from our window was nice to look at. Free parking next to the hotel. Lots of places to eat and shop all around.

I stayed here from June 12 - 14, 2025. Amazing staff, front desk lady was very helpful and friendly. Outside worker man was very hospitable. Great hotel with amazing staff that go above and beyond.

Smack in the middle of the busiest street. The road noise was horrible all night. Across from a bar so great to walk back after a few drinks if that's what you like. I was looking for an early to bed night so not ideal. Beds were comfortable. Bare bones for all other convienences. Staff was super friendly and there was parking. No elevator.

When we arrived to first check in we got to our room and realized the bed was a full instead of the queen that was listed in the add, we aren’t normally complainers, but I am a roller in my sleep and I would definitely roll off the bed and/or slap my partner with that size of bed, so we asked the front desk if we could upgrade to a bigger bed. They were really helpful with that and got us a room with a king size bed the next day and did not have us pay more since it was a room without a volcano view, so that was really nice of them. The “volcano view” that we originally paid extra for was blocked by some buildings so in our opinion the bigger bed without the view was a lot better since the view wasn’t great to begin with. The building has zero insulation so if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful hotel to relax, this is not the place. We could hear cars, bars, our neighbors, ect. all night long. However it’s give and take for the great location because you are right on the strip and can walk to almost everything, so the noise makes sense, there are just not very sturdy walls to keep a lot of that noise out. The hosts were nice and accommodating, however we had trouble with a shuttle we booked through them. We kept getting asked to book tours/shuttles through the hotel whenever we would walk past the front desk, but we unfortunately had all of our excursions booked beforehand, but we wanted to support the hotel so we decided to book the shuttle back to the airport to go home, through them. We explained to multiple of the front desk people that we needed to go to the Liberia airport instead of the San Jose airport because we flew into Liberia to go to Tamarindo for the first part of our trip and we had to fly out of the same airport. We understand the language barrier and don’t expect all of their locals to speak English as it is not their first language. However there was one front desk guy that understood us perfectly and was giving us all the details for booking a shuttle to Liberia. We were going to get cash out to pay for the shuttle since it’s cheaper without the taxes so when we got back to book the shuttle the front desk lady was there instead. We told her we were talking with the front desk guy about getting a shuttle to Liberia and could come back when he was there but she insisted she could help us and told us to go to lunch while she contacted different shuttle companies. Long story short she ended up booking us with a company that only goes to San Jose airport and San Jose was not written on the receipt so we thought she had gotten us the right shuttle by the conversation we had with her. The shuttle guy picked us up and didn’t speak any English at all so we got in and about half way through the drive realized we were going in the wrong direction. We then had to switch all our flights, stay the night in the airport, pay way more than we were expecting for all the changes and had to battle with them on the phone for a while to get refunded for the incorrect shuttle. They ended up refunding us eventually and we were really appreciative of that however that amount did not cover the time and money we had to use for our new flights. Again we understand the language barrier and don’t expect everyone to cater to us, however we could tell the lady couldn’t fully understand us and said we would work with someone else or book it online and she promised us she would be able to find the right shuttle for us. Anyway it’s all taken care of (mostly) now but at the time it was very frustrating for us being in a unknown country and having to figure out all this stuff because of a simple problem of putting the wrong airport. And we feel as though if you are working with tourists and scheduling important trips for them you should be able to understand what people are asking or at least ask your coworker to help out instead. Overall our stay was okay, rooms were clean enough, location was great, hosts were kind, price was alright, just an unfortunate mix up that happened to us. Wanted to give an honest review :)

My friend and I stayed here a few nights in December. The price was reasonable, and it's a cute, old-school hotel in a great location ( We were able to walk to everything including the grocery store, and we even accidentally saw part of a parade for the holiday.) Nelson gave us a lovely tour of the building, and Michelle was charming, and very helpful with information/arranging a tour for us. We had a great stay.

This is a wonderful and welcoming family run hotel and spa. We had the pleasure of meeting the family and feeling like we were at home away from home. It's right in the center of town close to so many good restaurants to eat at and is super easy to get around and explore. We were able to book a canopy zipline tour through them and a couples massage spa package that was AMAZING after all of the adventuring and hiking that we did in the area. I would absolutely recommend staying here and would book it again in a heartbeat if we get the chance to visit La Fortuna again
